(OOC: This has been submitted. Although complexity isn’t necessarily bad, this proposal has far too many committees in use. It creates two committees and makes use of a third to achieve an effect that could be done by member states. The only actual mandate on nations is to make their schools teach at least one humanity, since everything else is opt-in, which doesn’t do much in the way of support.)

“Seeing as this is now at-vote, I will declare my vote in favour of this proposal. Though there are issues, most of which revolve around the overuse of committees, they don’t stop this from being an overall positive piece of legislation.”

Where is the funding for the World Humanity Fund to come from? The proposal does not mention this.

(OOC: The proposal establishes the World Humanity Find as a subcommittee of the GAO, the World Assembly General Accounting Office, which receives its funds from the World Assembly General Fund. This is financed by mandatory donations from member states.)

OOC: "Mandatory donations" sounds a lot like socialist-speak for "taxation." Despite my deep affinity for the humanities, I'll not stand for "mandatory donations," even if such donations would be primarily for the benefits of nations like my own, who have no public education system.

You signed up for it when you joined. If you take that much issue with it, and since it is unlikely to get repealed, then leave...

The Qeth have no currency, so unless the World Humanity Fund would like salt bricks or purebred horses, I am afraid we have no such "donations" to give.

And the Omniscians of Omicron Convenience VI already know all there is to know about the humanities. This program is a waste of World Assembly time and resources.

OOC: Pretty sure the mandatory donations will stay in place regardless of whether you vote for or against this proposal and World Assembly General Fund is a separate resolution of its own.

On second thoughts, FUCK NO. This resolution has now evolved to become troublesomely worded in many areas; for instance, the WHF is described as "an opt in service" but no description is offered of how an entity can actually opt into being able to request funds from it. The name of the Department of External Auditors and its position within the GAO is also highly confusing, especially when Article 6 of GA#17 actually requires the GAO to "to submit to regular audits from outside agencies" - which I would assume are not sneakily-named wings of the GAO itself.

While we support and value the humanities, we do not consider the micromanagement of member-nations' educational systems, without familiarity or knowledge of the workings thereof, to be an appropriate subject for international legislation.
Even in Antiquity, all the good names were already taken.

IC, we're the Terran Empire. No, not the Warhammer 40k Empire of Man. Or the Empire from Star Wars.

Should this resolution pass (as appears likely), MC United will pass additional legislation to ensure against politicization of humanities faculties. MC United will not tolerate humanities departments in its educational system becoming strongholds of hatred for MC United's history and culture and hotbeds of sedition hiding behind "academic freedom".

“As long as that doesn’t contradict Protecting Free Expression, I don’t see why not. Nothing in this proposal has anything to do with the supposed politicisation of the humanities.”

This proposal violates the rights of people and organizations, in particular specialty educational institutions with a specific non-humanities focus area of study, to create their own curricula.

Indeed. The mandate is ridiculously easy to meet, to the extent that I am not sure a functioning system of education would not be meeting it (assuming you teach children to read and write your national language, that likely takes care of the mandate entirely).
