You like to be able to claim loudly that these people should not be equal to you, but rather should go back to being invisible and repressed they way they used to be in the good old days. Please note that you can do this already, under both WA law and many real-life legal regimes. What you're trying to pass here is the right not to have it pointed out to you that it's inherently fascist to try to treat people as second-class citizens based not on criminal acts but on some inherent characteristic. You're trying to claim the ludicrous theory that calling someone bigoted is worse than actually being a bigot. So, uh...

There's something I'm not quite clear about.

I was under the impression that "safe spaces" were specifically for those who are (for want of a better phrase) "born into" a minority. Therefore, ethnic minorities and those born into the LGBTQ community would fall into this category, and there would accordingly be a "safe space" created for them to be free from the hate some others may feel towards them and wish to act upon.

But then, I began thinking of religious minorities in Western countries, especially those of the Jewish and Muslim faiths. While there is a strong cultural component to many of those within these faiths, and it is common to be more or less born and raised into Judaism or Islam (just as I was "born into" Catholicism by dint of my family), one can still simply choose to convert later as an adult. In the United States, it is not uncommon for Black Americans to convert to Islam later in life.

Presumably, these religious minorities would qualify for "safe spaces".

The people here assume that the debate is settled, and I am to be silenced for having an opinion. And again - while I take the point of the honorable leader who said this is already covered and I will take his advice to not propose this in its current form - the response in this post show precisely the kind of attitude that I receive for having a differing opinion. I have not said anything discriminatory, I have not called names, I have not been incendiary, but I've been called a "bigoted arsehole", and no one calls out this name-caller. To me, that is something wrong, and unfortunately everyone seems to have missed the point.
