If you've been involved before, for any of the 101 previous occasions, and know the drill, carry on past all this and sign up like usual, since this is basically a copy of previous sign-up posts. Don't know the drill? Aren't aware there even is a drill? Read on...
HOW TO SIGN UP:
New to the World Cup? Read This:
Welcome to the longest-running sports competition in NationStates!
If you're completely new here, you are eligible and highly recommended to enter the Baptism of Fire (BoF), a tournament that happens before the World Cup, as well as enter the World Cup itself.
If this is your first entry into the World Cup, please indicate whether you wish to be registered for the Baptism of Fire or not.
You can register for the Baptism of Fire simply by saying, in this thread, that you want to be in it. e.g. 'I want to be in the BoF and the WC'. You can make it more polite or impressive than that, of course, or even RP the sign-up, but simply indicating you want to enter is enough.
It is highly advised that you enter the BoF before your first World Cup. This will give you an opportunity to RP in an official event with other newcomers, and also gives you your first ranking points. Please also note you CANNOT enter the BoF without also entering the World Cup. Qualifying for World Cup will follow immediately from the BoF, so this thread serves as sign-ups for both tournaments at once.
If this is your first Cup, you may only sign up with one nation. A second nation, known as a 'puppet', may be signed up in later tournaments. Puppets need to declare their status as a puppet, as well as be confirmed as such by the 'master' nation.
First-time participants are ineligible to host or co-host the World Cup and Baptism of Fire tournaments.

Introducing: The World Cup
The Nationstates World Cup (NSWC) is a tournament for any NS nation who signs up. The NSWC is about to start its next competition, and your nation can take part! Every team is given a rank based on their performances in previous World Cups. Current rankings can be found in the signature.
Scores are generated using 'scorinators' - usually either a Java program, a spreadsheet (such as Excel), or another custom-made program - which use random numbers, weighted by team ranking and RP bonus to produce the scores.
It is encouraged for Nations to RP - roleplay - their matches, team rosters, players and such. Good RPs will help raise your chance of winning (especially in the Baptism of Fire, the tournament for NSWC newcomers). Please note: A lot of RPs does not guarantee goals or wins, but your chances are improved of this happening. i.e. Two debutant, non-ranked, nations play each other. One has RP'd a few times, the other has not. The nation who has participated should have the better probability of victory, but still has a chance of a Win, Loss or Draw.
RPs can be team roster announcements, fan comments, press conferences, media stories, anything about the game, or even other situations, as long as you've kept to the score as posted by the host(s). Paying attention to the RP Permissions (a list of preferences on how to handle IC and OOC situations) in your opponent's roster will help both teams to write a story for the ages.

Questions?
Can't find an answer to your question in the Welcome to NS Sport guide?
Then ask us in the World Cup Discussion Thread! There are plenty of knowledgeable people on hand in that thread to answer anything you might like to know about the NSWC.

Please do not post in this thread to answer questions about sign-ups or to correct sign-ups unless you are the WCC president (The Kytler Peninsulae), WCC vice-president (Banija), a former WC host, or the current World Cup or Baptism of Fire hosts.
If you are not one of the latter and post a query reply or correction, your post will be considered spam, and may bring moderator action.
As a matter of courtesy towards your fellow competitors and tournament hosts, please do not sign up a puppet 'just because you can', if you know that you won't have time to RP it. Entering with the best of intentions is fair enough, but if you know you won't be RPing with a nation, have a think about why you're entering them. Nations that don't participate are no fun for your fellow competitors.
