Optional RP Prompts
As a disclaimer, there is no rule that you must follow RP prompts. You can diverge from or completely ignore the prompt. There is no bonus for responding to the RP prompt, nor is there a penalty for ignoring the RP prompt.

MD1 RP Prompt: Tell me about your nation's capitol city. Why was it chosen to be the capitol? What's the culture of the city? What makes it unique? What makes it fun? Is it a young city, an old city, an expensive place to live? Any and all details are welcome.

MD2 RP Prompt: Tell me about language in your nation. What do people speak? Are people mostly speaking Terrenean? (English?) Is your local language in danger of becoming lost? Are you trying to resurrect a dead language? Are there a bunch of langauges spoken- from migrant groups, or native groups, or anything like that? Do you have an official language? Do different regions speak different languages? And are linguistic issues divisive politically? Anything and everything there is to know about language in your country- let me know!

MD3 RP Prompt: Tell me about Pets in your nation. Are people big pet owners in your nation? What kind of pets do they have- dogs, cats, etc... Very familiar to the international community? Are there breeds of internationally common pets(dogs, cats, hamsters, etc...) that are unique to your nation? Or are there entire species of pets that are unique to your nation?

And to build upon that... Are certain pets a showcase of wealth or power? Would wealthy people be more likely to have any exotic pets? Or maybe your country does not have any sort of pet-owning culture: in that case, do they think it's weird that others do?

MD4 RP Prompt: I've asked about your nation's capitol city- probably one of the largest cities in your country. Let me ask about your country's rural life. Do you have large rural populations? What are they like, on the aggregate? Right-wing, culturally conservative? Left-wing agrarian? Do they tend to be more or less religious? What do they do for a living? A lot of farmers? Loggers? Retirees? How much of your country lives in the rural areas? Maybe just a small chunk, or is it like half the country? And what do rural areas look like in your country? Lots of corn? Trees? Mountains? Lakes? Everything and anything there is to know about the rurals!

Or maybe your country lacks rural areas. In that case, why is that? Is that just a function of geography? Or is that the result of intentional practices by governments to urbanize the country? Or maybe another reason entirely- destroyed by natural disaster? Nuclear war? Environmental waste? Spill the beans!

MD5 Prompt: 16 teams are left in the tournament. IT's an exciting time- all of you have achieved something, and there are hopes that your team is the one good enough to win it all this time around. Tell me about hope in your country- both inside & outside of football. Is there a ton of hope and optimism around the NT? What are people hopeful for in general in your nation? Hopeful about the general direction of your country? Hopeful for their personal lives- economically? Hopeful that their kids will have it better than they did? Hopeful about personal things- getting married, buying a house, etc... Anything that your citizens are hopeful for/optimistic about, let us know!

Nyowani Kitara National Info

Image
Nyowani Kitara, in red, shown in a map with its surrounding neighbors

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic nation, formerly ruled as a one party communist state, recently coming out of civil war.

For nearly 90 years, in various iterations, the country was ruled as a one-party state, with the Kitara Progressive Worker's Coalition, the nation's communist party, being the sole source and summit of political power in the nation. After brutal civil war, which sparked interest and interventions from many nations within Rushmore and beyond.

Following the war, a peace deal was signed, and free and fair elections, sponsored by Nephara, were brought to the forefront. A referendum for independence in Osterland was narrowly defeated. The peace deal seems to be holding strong, as Muhoozi Kulan was elected as President of a newly democratic Nyowani Kitara.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

It is considered something of a minor miracle that this bid can get off the ground- the KWFA remains probably one of the last national institutions still firmly controlled ny former Akongo supporters, so many outsiders say that the frequent cooperation between the KWFA and the Government that is required to throw on a tournament of this size is a 'boon' for healing within Nyowani Kitara.

Cabo Azure National Football Team "Las Maçaricas"

Starting XI
# Corte-Real
Cardoso Silveira Gouveia

Rathbone Maciel

de Lima Branco
Medeiro Moniz
Gomez

The Gaffer
The manager of CSKA Quebec, AJ Zanetti was hired on a part-time basis as a cost-saving measure by the FAF. A visionary young manager with huge shoes to fill following the death of the legendary Paulinho.
Goalkeepers
GK Ambrosio Gomez 24 y/o Olympic Thessia (MYT)
A good all-round keeper, seasoned by his time in Mytanija. Earned the starting role during World Cup qualifying and is expected to keep it until he retires or falls out of favor.

GK Zezé Sapateiro 21 y/o Miruan City FC (TKT)
Recently signed to a Tikariotian side as a backup, will likely be a backup for the national team for the foreseaable future

GK Vicente Leitao 24 y/o Port Tacassam FC (TKT)
An unheralded shot-stopper who has come into his own playing in the incredibly unforgiving environment of the Tikariot Premier League. Recently transferred to Port Tacassam FC in the TPL, where he will look to replace OAM international Ollulier de Luc as starting keeper.

Defenders
RB Amilcar Branco 28 y/o Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
The Maçaricas’ undisputed starting right back, and one of its best players. A pacy fullback with the speed and skill to contribute on offense, he has evolved into an every-game starter not only for the .Maçaricas, but his club team as well, making him one of the few Azureans to have such an impact overseas.

LB Ademar de Lima 26 y/o Sao Vicente
Originally a carbon copy of Branco, the left back de jure has evolved into more of a stay-at-home fullback than his counterpart, though he is no slouch going forward. A consistent all-league XI selection in the Liga Hidalgo Primer.

FB Heitor Soares 24 y/o Blackheath (TLI)
A pacey, athletic wingback not at all in the Azurean vein, Soares goes by the mononym "Bandicoot" when plying his trade in the Licentian Isles. Currently working to break into the starting XI both at Blackheath and for the Macaricas

FB Marcelinho Costa 27 y/o Regium Immortum (OAM)
Though he lacks the panache of his peers, Costa is a tough-tackling, canny fullback who makes smart passes up field and terrorizes attackers in his own third. Currently starts for Regium Immortal in Oberour Ar Moro.

CB Adão Moniz 27 y/o Reschensreppur (GRF)
An agile, harrying centerback making his way in a league dominated by “Big F*cking Grantfjallers”, Moniz was a fixture for the Azureans in qualifying and continues to improve.

CB Deodato Medeiro 28 y/o Marine Coast United (VIL)
Despite not having the size or bruising physique that Azureans generally prefer in their centerbacks, Medeiro has exceeded all expectations playing in the top flight of Villita, finding himself in conversation for end-of-season awards. A locked-in starter.

CB Emilio Couto 23 y/o Regiis Dreamland (BRO)
A big, scary centerback who does not shy from contact or yellow cards, Couto provides compact defense in clutch situations. Presently starting on mid-table Regiis Dreamland in Brookstation.

CB Donato Brandão 25 y/o SC Lagos (BOL)
Lacks the physical gifts of his older brother Kevin or Moniz or Medeiro, but a technically proficient centerback who makes few mistakes. Currently starts for SC Lagos, among the best Bollonichsian twins in the Twin Premier League.

CB Tobias M'bah-Pinho 23 y/o St. John's Arsenal (QUE)
A versatile, Quebec-raised centerback, likely to see play on a rotational basis. Currently plays for St. John's Arsenal in his native Quebec.

Midfielders
CM Narciso Maciel 26 y/o Colonial Sile (VIL)
A composed, intelligent player with great distribution and off-ball movement. A true general to anchor the midfield who's taken root in the Vilitan Premier League

MF Seth Rathbone 23 y/o Portelo
A consistent, creative center-mid who has continued to achieve for the national team while playing domestically.

MF Emmanuel Bastos 21 y/o Honeybadgers (EUR)
A well-rounded midfielder known for having four lungs and being able to play most positions reasonably well, though not excelling in any. Currently plying his trade in Brookstation.

MF Marco Lobo 24 y/o Villa Silva
A holding midfielder who's likely reached his level playing domestically, but nevertheless a solid defensive option and a good like-for-like substitute with Maciel where one is needed.

MF Rolando Florencio 24 y/o Plastinagrade (ZRH)
A good all-round midfielder, without any strengths or weaknesses that stand out. Earns his first senior callup this cycle, currently sitting the bench for Campionato Esportiva de Campeones runners-up Platinastigrade.

MF Telmo Andrade 21 y/o Küsbon Town (CAD)
A fast-thinking, accurate-passing holding mid who has yet to live up to his potential. Was unfortunately relegated with his club in Cardenao, but looks to be a major player in their bounceback campaign.

Forwards
FW Cleto Silveira (C) 28 y/o Cathyr Emeralds (TKT)
After a few lackluster seasons for club and country, Silveira has reasserted himself as the team's #1 striker through his dominant play in the competitive Tikiariotan domestic competition. Recently transferred to Eivora Athletic in Tikariot.

FW Vasco Gouveia 26 y/o Tikariot City FC (TKT)
Quite a polarizing player, as some deem him a poacher for padding his stats with go-ahead goals in meaningless matches, while others point to his impressive assist record to show he contributes in other ways. Recently moved from Tikariot City to newly-promoted TPL side Khalgarh Valley FC, where he has sought to keep the Stripes out of the relegation zone

FW Vasco Cardoso 23 y/o Mountainside (EUR)
A quick, agile, athletic striker, Cardoso is known mainly for his workrate and low quotient of mistakes, in many ways a foil to the other of "Os Dos Vascos". Currently plying his trade for mid-table Mountainside in Eura, where he was on the ballot for Young Player of the Season.

FW Nicodemo Corte-Real 24 y/o Corn Palace (SFD)
A tall, archetypical center forward, Corte-Real has proved to be one of Cabo Azure's greatest success stories after moving abroad at the age of 17. Currently starting for Corn Palace in the Sanford PREMIER League after leading them to their first league title in club history.

FW Pio Mendonça 22 y/o CSKA Quebec (QUE)
A pacy, consistent striker, Pio was the subject of the biggest transfer fee in Azurean history when he moved to Swangard last season. Still starting at Swangard Athletic in the QPL.

GOALKEEPERS:

The unique Marianne goalkeeper numbering system means that despite the 16 shirt, Zachary Courschene is the likely starter. He has a reputation as a "shot stopper" which is a polite way of saying he is not necessarily as adroit with his feet, although it is accurate to say that he is the sturdiest of the trio with regards to the act of keeping the ball out of the back of the net. Alexandre Hernández-Leduc is "one for the future" so to speak, and likely will not appear in the Copa unless Marianne are so far out that they have no hope of reaching the last sixteen by the final matchday, which is of course fairly likely. Third goalkeepers are strictly prophylactic, but Youssef Giguére is competent and confident.

DEFENDERS:

Confident ball winner Kévin Nzeulie is tall, mean, and extremely physical, and very difficult to dribble past. By all accounts he is perhaps the national team's best player and should be key to any possible chance of making it out of the group stage. His centre-back partner is likely to be Yohan Meunier-d'Vra'cx, who is more comfortable with the ball at his feet but maybe not as good otherwise. He and left-back Qarë T'cyr'yx represent the indigenous Rushmori community proudly in the backline of the best XI. T'cyr'yx to his own credit is fast and a skilled passer, along with the team's free kick taker. At right back is Loïk Sirois, who has a bit of a nasty streak. Among the reserves are Domenico San Domenico, a centre-back who rarely tackles, Jean-François Zouaoui, a jack of all trades who doesn't mind getting stuck in, Veljko Obradovic, who definitely doesn't mind getting stuck in, and Pierre-Alexandre Picard, who can run forever, seemingly.

MIDFIELDERS:

The Mariannois footballing history is filled with deep lying midfielders who love to destroy and create in equal measure, and in Cyril Batkam they have another great one. Jérémy Asselin will be tasked with keeping inside and controlling the middle of the park. He has a reputation for being something of a backwards pass merchant, but that's an honest job. Keven Sall may have some trouble coexisting with Batkam but is among the best players in the team so he may end up being put in a more central role than he is used to. In all likelihood the team will be playing in a 4-5-1 out of possession and a 4-3-3 in possession, but the remaining players will all get time off the bench. Jérémy Atangana-Mballa has incredible pace and can change matches with it- few teams have an answer for him surging down the wing with the ball at his feet, in part because he often answers for them by launching the ball into the stands. Nicolas Charbonneau is a bit of a wildcard, he can play anywhere in the middle of the park but likely will not generate much offensively. Julien Fiset is an extremely adroit passer of the football who is allergic to the box.

FORWARDS:

Justice Kivuvuori is the sexy star player of the side, he hangs out on the left wing and then runs in and often finishes with a clinical strike. He is the country's best dribbler and can create for himself. Maxime Pujol creates a lot of space by playing with his back to the goal and can finish in his own right. He represents a delightful story in that he's risen up from playing in the third division as recently as five years ago. He is the oldest player in the squad. Ignacio Ciotola plays deeper than either of his partners in the front three, he doesn't score as much but he is always looking for the next ball. Axrë Diarra is a battering ram who is a problem off the bench, he and Atangana-Mballa will often come on in about the 60th minute. Pierrick L'Azertien is a trickster, with a delicate touch who can dribble in and out of tight spaces. If his finishing caught up to the rest of his game he could be at a big club. Xyrë T'avre'ch is a very exciting young player who nevertheless likely will not see the pitch.

MANAGER:

Louis Boulanger has a reputation for being stubborn in all regards, he will not make a lot of tactical changes, but he is also a staunch supporter of his players. He will never throw them under the bus, and usually is willing to absorb all the pressure and the blame when things get tough.

Copa draw tears up old wounds as Union faces no longer being northernmost nation competing

By: Johanna Nielsen

The eagerly awaited draw ceremony for the upcoming Copa Rushmori down in Nyowani Kitara left many of us in utter confusion and insecurity after it became clear that our beloved Dandelions will no longer be the northernmost squad competing on the Pavolan pitches.

It is a known sore-spot and ineptly suppressed national trauma, the fact that while we in the Union often like to think of ourselves as the very definition of «North», we are in fact not the region’s northernmost country. We don’t like to talk about it, and this has been made easier due to many neighboring island states hibernating in a state of isolation so cloistered it counterintuitively makes us seem like the extrovert of the neighborhood.

Sure, we know Svengarda is up there and Saintland is somewhere over there. But we’re all roughly on the same longitude or latitude - whichever is the one that states how far up north you are - and most importantly, we haven’t seen them compete in sports in this current era. Because never is the «Northern» identity more important than when we’re grouped together with, and jousting against, other nations, all of them southron in one way or another.

But of course, there is something else even further away, something beneath the shadow and just beyond the confines of maps; those secret polar island states. We know of them, but next to nothing about them, or so it is said; every tale shrouded in rumors and hearsay from days of yore. And now we will face them on the very first match day of the Copa itself. We are the sturdy defenders of the north, our layered wall a true test for any well-groomed southron grass fairy. This is our foundation of self when out in the world of sports. Now, we are the southrons, and it’s making people feel uncomfortable.

«I don’t like it,» said Mads Nygaard (64), a known local bigot, when I spoke to him earlier today down in Mackerel Park. «It’s not natural, them skerries yonder. The only fish that dwell in those waters are blind and deformed; only fools and bloodmages dare eat their flesh,» he continued, claiming to have heard as much from a shaman sailor who once tried to pass beneath the shadow. «In a way, you could say they’re so far north that it actually becomes south, and in that sense they’re not really northerners at all, but rather the ultimate southrons,» his Friend August Bjørnstad (67) filled in, while drawing a crude map of the known world in the gravel with a stick.

I later talked to Psychology post-doc at Ecpatia University, Brunhilde Ulveson, and asked if she could shed some light on this seemingly widespread tendency of facing geographical facts of life with such diffidence and apprehension, and she told me that the condition is well known and studied, and commonly dubbed Boreal Inferiority Complex, or BIC for short. «It’s defined by chronic and intense feelings of inadequacy and ideational insecurity when presented with a geographical reality that does not align with ones own imagined “inner map”, so to speak,» she explained.

Some people suffering from BIC will experience a sense of depression and low self-esteem, lapsing into complete and utter apathy, but somewhat capriciously, symptoms can just as often manifest themselves in overt competitiveness, exaggerated opinions of one’s own abilities, rejecting spatial realities and other forms of overcompensations fueled by deep topographical insecurity. «BIC is not an official diagnosis as of today, but we have various ways of treating its manifestations, like psychotherapy and behavioral self-help methods, » Ulveson continued, before concluding that her own research indicated that the condition is most predominant amongst males over the age of 60 and football fans of all ages.

In all the commotion after the draw, it seemed some failed to get a good look at the collected batch of opponents facing the Dandelions. In addition to the Union and the Polar Islandstates, Group Stacie Kerrigan will consist of Norrhem, Sargossa and Kirungabi, which will undoubtedly prove exciting. With both the Union, Sargossa and Polar Islandstates competing together, many have already affectionately nicknamed the group « Copa de las Islas del Norte». It remains to be seen whether the Dandelions will be able to live up to their newfound high-ranking position, or if a case of BIC will rear its ugly face and cramp their style, in kicking off what is anticipated to be the elderly coach Bjørnstjerne Eriksen’s last outing with the national team.

In a surprising turn of events, I met a young couple strolling the shops of Main Street while making my back from Ecpatia University, and they turned out to be Polarians holidaying in the north of Gnejs - or «down south», as they called it. They said that while the atmosphere might’ve shifted somewhat in the days following the revelation of PIS Copa participation and the draw, Union anxiety and emotional frailty in this regard is something they’re familiar with. «They’re always a bit funny around here,» the young woman said, and her partner filled in «We usually just say we’re from Savojarna or Falkyr and everyone walks away happy.»

Modern Union football has been through a whirlwind of success during recent years. Surviving the WCQ93 group stage, two consecutive Cup of Harmony quarterfinal appearances and a convincing quarterfinal run at the last Copa Rushmori in Mytanija. The wise one would say that now is a time of peace and contemplation. A time where you gaze backwards and inwards, reflecting on, and being grateful for, these unexpected triumphs and find solace in the knowledge that we have reached a certain state of competitiveness; hoping, that perhaps, one day, we will be so fortunate again. Most people are not wise, however, and this is certainly true of football fans. There is, once again, a tangible sensation of anticipated greatness vibrating throughout the Union. The ante has been upped, however, and the Union hordes now expect even greater greatness. Of course, expectation is the death of accomplishment, as the elderly coach Eriksen is fond of saying. So, once again, disappointment seems assured.

The Dandelion Copa Rushmori squad consists of a core of seasoned players. For many of them, this is most likely their last cycle with the national team.

About the Prosaic Union
The Prosaic Union of Gnejs – commonly abbreviated PUG, colloquially called 'The Union', often nicknamed 'The Rock' – is a country located in the far north-east of Rushmore. A constant source of bewilderment for many, the name Gnejs comes from the native word for the type of metamorphic rock called gneiss in English and German. The root of the word is believed to derive from the High German gneist, meaning roughly 'spark', the link being that the rock glitters. Gneiss is a common rock type across the territory making up the modern-day nation and has historically been a readily used building material component.

A vast and sparsely populated land, The Union covers about 1 220 000 square kilometres and has a population of just under 16 million. It is divided into four big regions – Berg (north), Birka (east), Ängby (west) and Vika (south) – which in turn are divided into counties and municipalities. The Interior compromises an immense area of more or less untouched wilderness at the heart of the country's inland and covers parts of all four regions. The capital city is called Port Kejm – located on the coast in the region Birka.

People in general are quiet and reserved. While idle small talk without purpose amongst strangers might be considered appropriate and expected some places, in The Union it is usually frowned upon and considered bothersome. The native tongue is called 'Gnejsian' (native: gnejsiska) and has a long and rich history. There's an abundance of regional dialects, some so distinct from others that many have suggested they really constitute different – albeit strongly related – languages. It is common to divide the many dialects into three different 'families', north-eastern (OOC: Norwegian), western (OOC: Swedish) and southron (OOC: Danish). Children learn English (known in The Union as 'the common tongue') from the age of five, and the population at large is generally considered to be fluent.

"What about Cabo Azure?”

“It’s where my dad’s from. What about it?”

“For the wedding, Tommy.”

Okay, so in retrospect it was pretty obvious; Anna had been peppering him with nonsequiturs, all of them revolving in some way around the wedding. Questions about friends and relatives he’d met once, his opinion on certain tastes or colors or scents, and now this question about his father’s homeland. He considered asking her to repeat the question, but she hated that, so instead he just asked:

“You want to get married in Cabo Azure?”

“Maybe. What do you think?”

“I mean, we could. Dad would probably like it.”

“What about you, Tommy? Would you want to get married in Cabo Azure?”

Put on the spot, Tommy froze, studying the wall behind Anna’s head dumbly. Having spent nearly all of his twenty-four years in Coloratura Falls, arguably the Quebec of Quebec, Tommy identified with his Azurean heritage just enough to order a kit online and make an absolute fool of himself at the pub when the Macaricas downed The Holy Empire in the last World Cup. He’d never been to the sunny Rushmori islands and never had more than a passing interest in visiting, though he knew he had relatives there.

To Anna’s impatient expression, he said, “Hold on, I’m thinking.”

“It’s just an idea,” she hedged. “But it’s beautiful down there, and I just saw a thing on Bing Bong about destination weddings. We’d probably have a much smaller guest list, and our money would go a lot further there than it would here.” Tommy nodded slowly, pursed his lips. Smiling, Anna played her master stroke. “And I’d have to hire a planner to take care of the details.”

“Fucking sold. Let’s do it.”

Hiring a planner had been an early point of friction between them where the wedding was concerned; Anna was convinced she could handle the details herself, while Tommy felt sure she would be overwhelmed sooner than later. Hiring a planner would put Tommy’s mind at ease.

The website of Cabo Azure Destination Weddings offered its content in Lusitanian, represented by the Azurean flag and Terranean, represented by the Euran flag. The latter page was conspicuously translated, either by machine or by someone with a very basic knowledge of Terranean. The pictures it offered were similarly unhelpful; shots of luxury boats cruising in clear blue water and smiling brides and grooms with no context. Nevertheless, it offered an email and a phone number, and so together Tommy and Anna took the plunge.

THE UNITED REPUBLICS OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
月州联合共和国 - 国际足球队
Image
Badge and kits designed by Txakhaxi's Tahuatxi Storefront.

It's a new dawn in Yue football! Chen Huikang led the team to a Cup of Harmony runners-up, and in his second act took a transitional roster to the World Cup proper, even nicking three points off of the Squornshelans in the process. Of course, by then he was on his way out, as the YFA maintained their time-honored tradition of alienating their best managers by chasing foreign talent. So Chen goes to Cassadaigua, and legendary World Cup-winning midfielder Elaine Ashdown comes to Yuezhou. The YFA knows Ashdown is a proven winner - but can she elevate the Dragons any further than Chen, especially with legendary striker Liu Huiying retiring? Or will it be another ten years before Yuezhou return to relevance?

Manager: Elaine ASHDOWN (NPH), 56

As a midfielder, Elaine Ashdown was the midfielder of her generation, and one of the finest in Nephara's long lineage of star CMs. As a manager, results have been more mixed, although she's at least held her own at Brinemouth and Gaelic Club. She favors a more patient style than Chen Huikang's, emphasizing structure and workrate in midfield. However, far from a traditional defensive disciplinarian, she also likes giving talented, creative wing players room to operate, often using individual creativity to cover for her tactical setups. While soft-spoken, she knows what it takes to win, and will do whatever it takes to get her players to learn the same. In a break with tradition, she's taken Pikemouth and former Yincheng Capitals manager Liang Bo as her assistant manager. Liang will help Ashdown better connect with the players, and will be glad to finally escape from Brenecia.

Assistant Manager: LIANG Bo, 52

STARTERS
#01 - GK - ZHAO Deliang (赵德亮) - 26 - Atletik Thessia (MYT)
A goalkeeping phenom who won a historic Golden Ball (both in terms of position and age) en route to Jiangdong's first league title in years. A cool, confident, and physically imposing general on the pitch, albeit a bit traditionalist in playstyle.
#14 - LB/LWB - HUANG Han (黃翰) - 23 - Torbay Thunder (KSK)
An energetic, pacy wingback who thrived as a crosser in Olympic Nangang's three-at-the-back system, but may not be suited to the defensive rigors of a left-back role on the national team. Could plausibly play on the wing.
#06 - CB - HU Jiewen (胡介问) - 29 - Corinthians No Longer (NPH)
Already known for his composure, leadership, and surefootedness at a young age, Hu is a strong, quick center-back with a high ceiling - although some inconsistency has kept him from reaching it. Still, Chen Huikang believes that his well-roundedness and ability to drive forwards with the ball makes him an excellent fit for the Dragons' system.
#05 - CB - YUAN Mingrong (袁明荣) (C) - 32 - Ararat (MYT)
An intelligent, cultured center-back who's grown into an absolute rock at the back. Has proven himself in Mytanija as one of the best defenders in the league, and has rapidly developed into a strong all-around center-back who was once the Top League's player of the season.
#25 - RB - DONG Xiaowang (董小王) - 28 - Megabrantid (SRS)
A pacy, strong fullback well-suited to the modern game. Could be creatively deployed as a winger in a pinch, and will provide much of the width in this setup.
#19 - CDM/CM - WAN Sheping (万射平) - 30 - Wirr Tsi (CMT)
An old-school, defensive-minded midfielder who's surprisingly good in the air despite being 5'8". Earned a move to countryman Zhaxi Nanlei’s Wirr Tsi squad a few seasons ago, and has rapidly become one of Chromatika's finest midfielders and a key figure in the newly-minted Red League juggernauts.
#29 - CDM/CM - ZHAXI Jianzan (扎喜坚赞) - 22 - Chardonnay Rangers (NPH)
A hard-nosed defensive midfielder who will do anything on the field to win - and who has the athletic ability and field vision, if not a full suite of on-ball tools yet, to make it happen. Not related to Zhaxi Nanlei.
#77 - LAM/RAM - JIANG Jieren (江杰任) - 30 - Osarese Marcadia (AUD)
An incredibly quick winger, albeit one slightly out of place on the left, Jiang’s ball-retention skills need to work and he tends to play with too much ambition. Still, he’s absolutely electric when on, with a combination of scoring and playmaking on the counterattack that could really make an impact.
#08 - CM/CAM - Kara Mingsdottír ZHANG (f) (张白兰) - 22 - Steinaux (GRÆ)
The YFA spent a lot of time and effort convincing Karolíná Mingsdottír to declare for Yuezhou's national team instead of Græntfjall's, but it's become apparent that the young midfielder was worth the trouble. A well-rounded midfield prospect whose speed and technique makes her devastating on the counterattack, and who has a propensity for scoring wondergoals.
#11 - RAM/RW - LUO Nanwei (罗南伟) - 27 - FC Inter Nantwich (TMB)
An extraordinarily athletic player who worked his way onto Guodui's senior team as a teenager; despite some injuries during his youth career, his pace and dynamic creativity make him a terror with the ball, although he can be erratic and inconsistent. Impressed in the Zenith despite suffering relegation with Gaelic Club - enough to make him the starting right-winger after Huang Shedong's ACL tear. Now, he's been made an eight-million-dollar man, and impressed in his first season with Nantwich.
#09 - ST - LIANG Wei (梁伟) - 27 - Chardonnay Rangers (NPH)
A tall, imposing target man who finally escaped the yo-yo life in Kelssek by...moving to a promotion favorite in Nephara's First Division. Can be a little immature at times, but absolutely lit up the second tier to the tune of thirty-six goals last season, earning himself the #9.

RESERVES
#34 - GK - JIAWEI Lau - 27 - Northern Stallions (BRE)
Decades of Yue coaching dogma that the goalkeeper's only job should be keeping the ball out of the net have culminated in Jiawei Lau, an acrobatic shot-stopper who just punts the ball whenever he makes a save. Has really come into his own with Northern Stallions after a rocky start to his career.
#12 - GK - Elaine XU (f) - 21 - West Couno United (TMB)
Known for her distribution as well as her heroics outside of the penalty box, Xu's family escaped to Tumbra at the outbreak of the Yue Civil War, but the young, flashy goalkeeper is now back and readying a long-term challenge to Zhao Deliang's starting spot.
#24 - LB - LU Lanying (f) - 28 - Rutland Dockside (CDG)
A quick, athletic left-back, Lu is strong when driving forwards and tracking back but could work on her crossing. Not the most natural fit for a wingback role, but her physical prowess and energy should help out.
#27 - CB - LI Jianguo - 29 - Tihon (CMT)
Li is the best of the team's center-backs with the ball at his feet, making him best-suited for a three-man defense where he can make surging runs and spray accurate long-range passes with either foot. The physicality has never quite caught up to the ball-playing ability, as he's very prone to be pushed around by bigger strikers, leaving him somewhat vulnerable in a four-at-the-back system.
#03 - CB - ZHU Mingxia - 32 - Crossroads (CMT)
A strong, aerially imposing center-back who has no idea what to do with possession.
#26 - CB - Garrett SHANGYUAN - 25 - Chatswood (NPH)
Quick and physically imposing, the dual national Shangyuan is known for his flashy blocks and his lumbering runs upfield, as well as his almost magnetic attraction to being booked.
#13 - RB - Diadora REEVE (f) - 34 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
Diadora Reeve is an athletic, relatively attack-minded fullback who provides an interesting tactical option for Yuezhou in place of Zhu Aiguo. We think she had a Yue grandfather or something, which is why she's turned up on the Yue national team despite everyone previously thinking she was Nepharim.
#17 - CM - GUO Hong - 29 - 1896 Ebor (MYT)
A quick, diminutive water-carrier who excels at breaking up attacks and has grown into a key role for 1896 Ebor. Has a tendency to pick up cards.
#15 - CM - YANG Xie - 31 - St. Bart's Dutch (TLI)
A dynamic midfielder whose greatest assets on the field are his relentless energy and athleticism. Has found his level with St. Bart's Dutch, where he's shed many of his former attitude concerns and become a solid supporting piece in the midfield.
#37 - CM - FANG Yuhui (f) - 28 - North Granby (CDG)
Not the most physically imposing, but her seemingly endless stamina and excellent positioning empower her to show up almost everywhere on the pitch when needed to make a tackle. Not great offensively, but improving.
#20 - LW/RW - DAI Qiu - 30 - Nangang Royals
Lithe, two-footed winger who compensates for a relative lack of pace with an all-around skill on the ball that belies his young age. Fierce Nanhai separatist who returned home after a stint in Græntfjall fizzled out, and immediately became one of the best players in the Yue league.
#33 - SS/CAM - LUO Chuan (f) - 29 - Spenson Suburbia (ZWZ)
An agile, technically adept attacking midfielder at her best when distributing to others. Tends to get bullied off the ball, though.
#32 - RW - FU Xiaoxi - 25 - Brisara FC (CMT)
A smooth and skilled winger, if perhaps overly deferential on the attack.
#21 - JI Weibo - 31 - Brantisvogan (SRS)
While selfish to a fault and not the easiest personality to work with, Ji Weibo laid waste to South Newlandia to the tune of 17 goals in 22 matches as a teenager, and has continued to develop as a goalscorer. A pure poacher who’s posed an increased long-range threat as of lately, Ji isn’t much of a team player but could be a real option off the bench.
#22 - ST/RW - ZHENG Yuanjun (f) - 30 - Fiskadaha (PFA)
An intelligent, versatile attacker, Zheng is much more skilled as a playmaker than as a scorer, although her ability to find space with her runs has still gotten her a decent scoring record. Chen is hoping that she can spell the aging Liu Huiying as a false nine, although she has little experience in that role.

Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell is reserved for the biggest games, but Nephara is a large enough country that it spreads its matches across the nation.

Last World Cup briefly made the Cormorants dream again, before their dream met the shot of a brutal second-round draw with Banija, and the even worse chaser of Brenecia reaching the quarterfinals. Regardless; it's Nephara, and Nephara are always among the favourites, even if Radeka Lind is the last holdover from the Golden Age.

Tactics
Image
Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

Their formation is fairly rigid and disciplined, with plenty of strength all across the pitch, particularly in the forms of Constantine and Southsea ahead of Scales and Copperhead in the heart of defence. Madita Brewer plays a floating role as a creative playmaker off the right, with Loeher a more traditional winger.

Common Substitutes
If their attacking approach isn't working, then the most clear switches of approach are to take off Southsea for either the silky playmaker Kvasina, or, as a 'break glass in case of emergencies' option, Bravura Harper to partner Vetiver up front. Vetiver will never be taken off the field if Nephara need a goal.
Southsea will frequently be replaced in midfield by the more physical Bellona Sebold. If booked or beaten for pace, Southsea or Constantine may be replaced by the younger, raw-boned but less technical Rosziter.
The fullbacks have to do a lot of work, and Cantor will frequently substitute on Lind or Levering just as a fresh set of legs late in the game. Lind will also often see minutes late to hold onto victory, with her calming presence.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharan ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

Staff
Manager - Igrene Cantor - Age 54
Assistant Manager - Valery Cain - Age 58
One of the few people to have won the World Cup as both a player and a manager, Igrene Cantor excels at building chemistry and a true, tight-knit unit, squeezing the absolute most out of the parts available to her. An absolute dream to a Nephara side that can often be less than the sum of its parts. Cantor thinks of each player in terms of what they bring to the complete picture, not just as a rating out of a hundred; she won't just pick the best eleven players, but a coherent, fully functioning squad that would die for each other on the pitch. Cain is an odd choice of assistant manager, a journeyman manager across Nephara's pyramid, yet somehow Cantor clearly sees a kindred spirit.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Medusa Strand (Image Chromatik) - Age 29 - 46 caps, 22 clean sheets
A steady, focused personality, or perhaps no personality at all. Strand is a superb shot-stopper who did not let a few errors early in her career get her down, and the dividends have paid off. Her decisiveness coming off her line, command of her area and ability to sweep behind the defensive line have made her Cantor's preferred goalkeeper.

12 - GK - Toxothea Sebring (Image Crisisbless) - Age 28 - 13 caps, 4 clean sheets
A tall, graceful goalkeeper, with a slightly ungainly look disguising remarkable agility between the sticks. Has an oddly prowling gait. Her error-strewn Eagles Cup filled nobody with confidence, but she's not about to let that get her down; her club form has been excellent for years, and in the event of disaster she'll confidently step up to the task.

20 - GK - Chary Longstreet (Image CA Paulinthal) - Age 24 - 7 caps, 4 clean sheets
An excellent shot-stopper whose skillset lends itself to high-pressing sides who need pacy sweeping and good distribution - just like the Cormorants. Her sole issue is that she tends to argue a lot with everyone around her. It's quickly forgiven and forgotten... on her end, at least. Nevertheless, Arrowsmith has done excellently in the Eagles Cup and has more than earned her place in the team. Probably no longer Nephara's third-best goalkeeper, but here for the #vibes.

Defenders
2 - RB - Solblindi Rake (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 26 - 16 caps
A hard-bitten, tough-tackling rightback. Nominative determinism has made itself known; he's short and sturdy, and doesn't look like he should be as fast as he is. He combines brutalist challenges and stalwart defending with the ability to snap off magnificent crosses from nothing.

3 - LB - Radeka Lind (Image Jinja City FC) - Age 32 - 119 caps, 11 goals
WC87 Champion
Captain

Lind still looks somewhat coltish, but it belies her unerring eye for a challenge. It's Lind's unabashed love of taking the ball away from people that's her standout in a country that tends to like its fullbacks forward at every opportunity; Lind swings in a vicious cross, but her inherent caution is well-suited to the international game. By now, firmly established as one of the greatest defenders of the generation, and a universally respected captain.

5 - CB - Vetta Roback (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 26 - 17 caps
The first half-satyr - indeed, the first non-fullblooded human - to represent the national team, Clevinger essentially looks like a hulking 6'8" woman with blue skin and stubby, vestigial horns poking out of her scalp. Unsurprisingly, she's also the tallest person in Cormorants history. That's handy as a centre-half, and she's scored goals at the big tournaments. She's been a Cormorants stalwart for years, now, and has finally found a reliable partner in Scales.

6 - CB - Anaximander Scales (Image Brinemouth) - Age 28 - 81 caps, 4 goals
An absolutely massive, bruising defender, Scales' ability to bulldoze and bully forwards without ever quite fouling them is genuinely remarkable. He's not going to set any records for pace - most likely, he'd struggle to catch up to your average pitch invader - but with his effortless calm, maturity and gift for correct anticipation, he's thus far proven the worthy central defensive partner Clevinger has been crying out for for years.

17 - RB - Pahali Kama (Image Liria Prizren) - Age 24 - 11 caps
A second-generation Kitari immigrant with... mixed feelings about the Nepharan intervention on behalf of the family her family fled. On the field, though, she's an incisive attacking fullback with matchless pace and an improvisational talent rare at her position.

18 - CB - Sven Copperhead (Image Crisisbless) - Age 29 - 42 caps, 2 goals
An earnest bruiser, Copperhead's massive but deceptively fast. He loves defending, getting stuck in and smashing people; a little impetuous for international level, perhaps, but if you need a man to stick his head in front of a shot, he's there.

22 - CB - Ettard Mitteager (Image AFC Treason) - Age 27 - 16 caps
Hard-bitten but with a soft touch on the ball, Mitteager has quietly stepped up as one of the most reliable Nepharan defenders out there. Never flashy, and notoriously introverted off the pitch, which has perhaps lead to her being underestimated over the years. But you'll notice, players - especially opposing strikers - always rate her highly.

25 - LB - Tanith Xu (Image Myana) - Age 24 - 35 caps, 2 goals
Seen as Nephara's best up-and-coming defender, hatchet-faced Xu's severe affect and features lend her an aura of authority well beyond her years. She's a jack of all trades, able to drop into midfield, bolt on the overlap and properly defend equally well, and her razor-sharp intelligence means she can make the most of that versatility.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Cassander Southsea (Image Brinemouth) - Age 27 - 55 caps, 2 goals
An intelligent, metronomic midfielder with a dazzling passing range, but also an assertive tackler who can firmly wrest the ball off opponents while reliably not drawing the foul. Southsea can be pretty much anything you'd want out of either midfielder in a double pivot, far more than the water carrier his name seems to imply.

8 - CM - Renate March (Image Herzegovina City FC) - Age 30 - 65 caps, 13 goals
March has risen up the ranks from the lower leagues. Any purely technical player at that level will get the legs hacked under them, so March had to learn not just to be better than those around her, but quicker, harder and nastier, too. She's taken these lessons to heart even as her career has blossomed. Cantor doubted her at the outset, for whatever reason, but it turns out nobody can tie together the midfield like she can.

15 - HM - Demeter Constantine (Image Crisisbless) - Age 28 - 51 caps
A very odd case. An immensely promising box-to-box midfielder from an early age, her form for country never quite reached her billing, and her club form fell off a cliff. Clearly needed a reboot, and got one in the unforgiving environment of Eura. Cantor tried to rehabilitate her, and succeeded partway, but she lost her starting place to March. There's still room for a redemption arc...

19 - HM - Chandra Rosziter (Image Dynamo Sjoedrhavn) - Age 24 - 22 caps
Tall and powerful, Rosziter locks down the centre of the pitch with wandering elbows, a commandable aggression out of possession and an underrated passing range with the ball. Some defensive midfielders go unnoticed, even when they're doing a good job. Not Rosziter, whose approach demands a warning klaxon.

23 - CM / AM - Kurtis Swainsona (Image Revolutionaries) - Age 25 - 20 caps, 4 goals
A tough, all-action midfielder who excels at brawling and late goalscoring arrivals into the box. He's not the most flashy technician by any stretch but he always makes his mark felt, and has proven very effective for Nephara between the lines, using his brawn and brain to good effect while also pressing hard more than a traditional playmaker.

24 - CM - Bellona Sebold (Image Crisisbless) - Age 25 - 22 caps, 3 goals
A clean-heeled technician with a silky touch. Everything Sebold does - passes, shots, tackles, even tactical fouls - is just clean. Not the kind of figure who changes a game by chugging about butchering people, but rather a figure who excels at being the ultimate cog in a clicking machine.

26 - AM - Lindse Kvasina (Image Istria City FC) - Age 29 - 67 caps, 17 goals
Kvasina's arrogant even by Nepharan standards, a diva reputation backed up by an ample supply of talent, guts and graft. She's hard work off the pitch, but at least she'll work hard on it. Even if she didn't, though, her natural poise on the ball and talent for improvisation would make up for it all. Poses far more of a risk off the pitch than on it.

Forwards
7 - RW - Kestrel Anharbour (Image Crisisbless) - Age 27 - 64 caps, 12 goals
Lightning-quick, two-footed and direct, Anharbour's not the most orthodox winger; she wants to use her physical and technical gifts to get inside fullbacks and cause damage. A cheerful sort who doesn't let much get her down, Anharbour just obviously really loves to play the game, and it shows and enriches her play.

9 - ST - Vasya Reisinger (Image West Cuono United) - Age 30 - 23 caps, 8 goals
A hulking powerhouse, attractive in an Amazonian kind of way, and the kind of person who believes in a type-A personality and specifically that she possesses one. Cantor's preferred muscular spearhead, and while her role in this squad is undeniably as a Plan B, her effectiveness is just as apparent.

10 - ST - Bravura Harper (Image Ulsa) - Age 29 - 67 caps, 34 goals
A brash, swaggering striker, Harper loves taking on first-time shots, and her hammer of a left boot ensures that isn't a waste of a chance. Backs herself to get on the scoresheet, sets herself high expectations, and reliably meets them. She's relentlessly single-minded in pursuit of perfection, and doesn't really have any interests outside football. But evaluated as a footballer, not a dinner companion, you won't find fault.

11 - LW - Arachne Loeher (Image Wirr Tsi) - Age 24 - 48 caps, 9 goals
Loeher's what's known in Nephara as an 'asphalt footballer'. Quick on her feet, but more nimble in the tight spaces than pacy on an open stretch of plain. She likes sending others to the cold, hard ground, but has got an inhuman reflex at skipping over challenges that would send her tumbling and skin her knees. Streetwise, creative, and going from strength to strength.

13 - RW / AM - Madita Brewer (Image Bastion) - Age 24 - 47 caps, 13 goals
Brewer's origins are curious; she's from an off-the-grid community in the Laith, but fortunately was able to step out into the world of running water and wi-fi connections long enough for her brilliance to get noted and picked up by a club. Originally developed as a pure playmaker, Brewer's bright and coachable, picked up new positions eagerly, and can play across most midfield roles or up front. That versatility helps her no matter where she's positioned, and she can be dangerous from anywhere on the pitch.

14 - ST - Leandra Berenguer (Image Anomalies) - Age 23 - Uncapped
An incisive, sharp and intelligent forward of Astograthian extraction. Well-rounded enough to lead the line, she showed plenty in limited opportunities at Brinemouth but ultimately had to leave the nest to find her wings.

16 - LW - Tryna Drnaso (Image 1923 Esca) - Age 22 - Uncapped
While raw-boned and somewhat fragile, Drnaso's markedly tougher than she appears, and her combination of raw pace and sheer determination to chase lost causes means she'll find plenty of the ball. With a thunderous left boot, she's blossomed into a lethal forward.

21 - ST - Felixe Vetiver (Image 1830 Cathair) - Age 23 - 52 caps, 35 goals
Vetiver is lightning-fast, entirely two-footed, ruthless in front of goal and absolutely fearless. She's got a fine first touch and links up play well, with intelligent, mature movement. She's stronger than she looks, though no powerhouse. Strong mentality, no serious issues off the pitch apart from a generally taciturn, cynical nature. And after scoring six goals in four World Cup games, at nineteen... it's safe to say Vetiver's a generational talent. Nepharim look at her and lick their lips, thinking of World Cups. Teenagers don't tend to break through in Nephara, getting eased into the team picture. Vetiver disagreed, and has reliably swept awards in the National League since her arrival at Cathair.

THE ASKARI UNION
Preferred Formation:
4-2-3-1
Style Modifier: 3
Playstyle: The long spectre of Skorjiball has left a mark in a nation now trying to play more aggressive, fast-paced, energetic style.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Hortense Agustine
Nickname: la Delfenoj

Having survived the whirlwind of S K O R J I B A L L, the financial implosion of their league (which limps on still, just, without room for foreign players) and three political coups in short succession, the Askari belatedly limp on to new pastures. Having achieved mediocre results in the past at the regional level, it's, well, unlikely that can maintain.

Without foreign players or investment, the Legaskari is a shadow of its former self, which was in its heyday... not very good. All the best Askari players are abroad, and those who aren't yet, aspire to. There have been extensive recent overhauls, however, as the prior 'golden' generation has simply aged out. This is the weakest side in recent memory, and they'll be lucky to pick up a point.

First-choice lineup. Replace Soumare with Combeferre.
The Askari have gained in confidence now, and are now able to play to their strengths. The Askari themselves tend to be smallish and more technically gifted than athletic, but a newfound emphasis on 'getting it up there' has taken over, and big lads from Eura have stabilised the spine of the team. Prior Askari sides have been more defensively focused and with an emphasis on pace, but Oslograd had taken to repeatedly yelling "THE BALL IS ROUND" at athletically-oriented plays in training, and it stuck.

Staff
Manager: Jehanne Scaletta - Age 43

Something of a coaching prodigy within the nation, Scaletta's ascended to the heady heights of being a first-team coach in the Nepharan second tier. She ... remains a coach there, but is moonlighting here in order to try and get a management job somewhere.

With five World Cup participations, including one Round of 16 appearance, Tikariot has been part of the rising Rushmorean sub-region of Pavola. After a whole slew of first knock-out-stage exits, Copa Rushmori 42 turned into what the whole nation hopes to be the turning point in their fates when they beat their neighbours and rivals of Græntfjall in the final for their first victory in a big tournament. Now the Snowy Owls are back for more. No Guts - No Glory!

Image
The fans of the Snowy Owls also deserve particular mention. Not only are they renowned for their chants, but they are also bringing the Thunder Clap (Click here for example) to the stadium, something that the players join in as a pre-game ritual that has left an impression on the opponents and opposing fans more than once (OOC: similar to the Haka of the New Zealand All Blacks). The players will form a triangle near the kick-off circle and lift their arms, which the fans do as well. Then a lone drum will start to signal the rhythm and both players and fans alike will move in unison, each clap accompanied by a loud cry, the claps (and cries) speeding up, creating an overwhelming sense of impending doom.

Image
Brian McAllister - 49 Image
With the victory at the Copa Rushmori 42, Brian McAllister now has three trophies under his belt after winning twice it twice with Sargossa before. He is generally a proponent of the same flexible 4-3-3 setup that his predecessor Stuart Ekstrom had almost perfected to a point, which can fluidly be morphed into a 4-5-1 or 4-4-2 to either adjust to the situation or just to screw with opponents' tactics.

Klakahollin National Football Team
"The Reds"

Manager: Erlen Aðalbjörnsdóttir (49)
Won thirteen titles with Rauður before age 45, and then shifted to bring the national team to some kind of prominence. With only eight teams in the Fótboltadeildin, there isn't that many players to pull from, but if there is anyone who is equipped to handle this charge, it's Erlen. She's devoted, passionate, and rather peculiar in the ways that she runs things. It's a good mix - but will it translate to the international level, even at this limited stage?

Starting XI
GK Berglaug Ericsdóttir (29) - Rauður
RB Kalmara Zophaníasardóttir (23) - Skógur
CB Sigtryggur Járngrímsson (25) - Fjall
CB Lárent Guðbergsson (19) - Rauður
LB Bjarnþór Þorgíslsson (24) - Skugginn
DM Melkíor Hreiðarsson (32) - FossCAPTAIN
DM Gústaf Guðgeirsson (30) - Rauður
RW Ranka Bekansdóttir (27) - Himinblár
AM Þórlaugur Artúrsson (20) - Skugginn
LW Sophus Kristiansson (18) - Himinblár
ST Auðbjörg Arnarsdóttir (17) - Skógur

Reserves
GK Dagný Reykdalsdóttir (25) - Fjall
GK Hildegard Mosadóttir (17) - Foss
RB Charlotta Dósóþeusardóttir (24)
CB Árna Zóphaníasardóttir (34) - Rauður
CB Ísveig Ísmaelsdóttir (31) - Næturhiminn
CB Ingrún Tótadóttir (26) - Fjall
LB Bergmar Engiljónsson (24) - Næturhiminn
DM Illíes Arngeirsson (27) - Skugginn
DM Evfemía Jónmundsdóttir (18)
DM Snæfríð Oddgeirsdóttir (23) - Rauður
RW Mekkinó Adamsson (28) - Foss
AM Gytta Vilbrandsdóttir (25) - Himinblár
LW Hjaltalín Brynjúlfsson (26) - Skógur
ST Þorvarður Marsson (31) - Himinblár
ST Sesar Svanmundsson (28) - Næturhiminn

Berglaug mans the goal, a keeper who excels in transition, with four players in the defense - energetic Kalmara, brutish Sigtryggur, tall Lárent, and speedy Bjarnþór, who can also moonlight down the left side. Melkíor is the leader in the midfield running the show, using his smarts, while Gústaf is the enforcer. Ranka is the team's best shooter from range, while Þórlaugur is the speedster that turns the game over; Sophus is the tall target who uses massive hops, and Auðbjörg, youthful Auðbjörg, is the one who is being looked at as the best striking talent on the squad.

As for the bench, keep an eye on Evfemía and veteran striker Sesar, along with a few others.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia is familiar with both failure and humiliation. First it was A 5-3 loss to Sargossa that brought an entire nation to its knees, and then that was followed up by an even more humiliating 4-0 defeat to the women of Cassadaigua. Then Eura denied the team a chance at a third straight appearance in a Copa Rushmori final by beating the Red Army 1-0 in the Round of 16 of CR XLI. Time to avenge the loss and humiliation once again, but yet again the Pridnestrovian national football team must make it through the group stage first before they can even think about winning the Copa Rushmori. It now seems like even more of a gargantuan task than it originally was.

Marianne Heads To The Polls To Decide On Fate Of Flag

NOVAZERTIA- A long promised motion in the National Assembly has been tabled that would lead to a formal vote on whether or not Marianne will change its' flag as part of a national "Rebranding" campaign. Président Ghislaine Desrochers stated in nearly every one of her campaign events prior to her election that she was in favour of Marianne's current efforts to "Rebrand" and "Become our own nation", and the flag has been a contentious point after a La République report showed that the flag was heavily influenced by the flag of a nation in another universe that may or may not have had a relationship with Azerty. The nearly inscrutable concept of multiversal travel has naturally been difficult to explain to the Mariannois public and instead much of Desrochers' jockeying has centered around the idea of respect for the proto-Wiguese people who occupied the territory prior to the arrival of Azertians.

The flag vote will focus on six designs, all of which feature the same shade of blue as its' background. The first design is to retain the current flag, which apparently has nebulous origins in another universe, but has become iconic within Rushmore and the world. Président Desrochers has put her weight largely behind the controversial sixth design, which is heavily influenced by the flag of Wigu (and thus of Rushmore itself, when continental authorities adopted a flag they also were influenced by the Wiguese flag). Desrochers, obviously aware that Marianne (née Cotdelapoms) has had their authority and influence on Rushmore ebb and flow, is hoping to partially rebrand the nation in Rushmori consciousness as roughly Rushmore's cradle of civilisation- fluid time means we're not entirely sure where civilisation was when the Wiguese reached the Goose Coast but our scientists tend to believe it was before contact elsewhere in the region.

Opponents of "flag six" have called it performative self-flagellation for guilty conscious colonisers who are disinterested in actual restorative justice with the proto-Wiguese community that they displaced. Many of those opponents point specifically to Desrochers' handling of the Tr'ir'ecx crisis, wherein the T'cher'ecois town of Tr'ir'ecx was ignored by census-takers and upon publishing of the most recent census was shown as having thousands fewer residents than it does, which led to the government underallocating funds by millions and millions of couronnes, including shutting their post office and re-allocating many health professionals.

As it currently stands, polling is largely neck and neck between retaining the current flag and "flag six", although the Société Azertienne has been paying for op-eds and commercials in order to push #5, with its' most overt Azertian influence. The first round of voting will narrow the six flags down to two, and as it currently stands the plan is for the vote to take place 70 days after the bill is signed by Desrochers. The referendum is expected to cost the country Ƈ30m, which has been a point of contention for many.

BOULANGER NAMES OPENING MATCH SIDE, MEUNIER FALLS ILL

Image

Domenico San Domenico will get the start at right centre-back after Yohan Meunier-d'Vra'cx fell ill and will not travel from the national team's home base to Dewayo for Marianne's opening match with Southwest Eastnorth. Other than that, the squad is roughly the predicted best XI, with Maxime Pujol as the forward pivot between Justice Kivuvuori and Ignacio Ciotola, and the side lining up in roughly a 4-1-2-3, with an arbitrary style modifier of +2.5.

Tactics
Formation: 4-3-3
Style Mod: +2.5
In attack, Darmen will employ one of two tactics: the first involves the team playing down the flanks while the second is a possession oriented short-range passing style that closely resembles tiki-taka. The later tactic is normally only employed against weaker opponents or when Darmen has a multi-goal lead and involves connecting many passes together to slowly advance the ball towards the opponents 18-yard box. It is not uncommon for 30+ passes to be completed in the sequence, especially against weaker opponents.

Darmen's primary tactic however is a heavy emphasis on flank play, with the wide midfielders (also referred to as flankers in Darmen) being the linchpin of Darmen's attack. Upon gaining possession, Darmen will look to distribute the ball to one of the two wide midfielders as quickly as possible. After receiving the ball, the wide midfielders will look to advance the ball as far down the flanks as quickly as possible. Meanwhile, the forwards and the central midfielders will crash the box, hoping to be on the receiving end of the wide midfielder's cross. The wide midfielder (or sometimes even the fullback) on the opposite flank will linger behind waiting to collect the cross should it overshoot the box. While scoring via headers is the primary goal, a player may also look to score by volleying or half-volleying the ball if they're in open space. Should the first attempt at goal not be collected by the goalkeeper, Darmenis are more than willing to take advantage of the ensuing chaos in the box and poach a goal as well. If the wide midfielder's path forward down the flank is blocked, they are not averse to cutting inside and taking a shot on goal themselves.

Defensively, the defenders have one job... to defend. They rarely venture out of their own half, but if they do it will only be one of the fullbacks (see above). Darmen will employ zonal marking when facing the counter-attack and man marking in all other situations.

Team Roles
Captain: Parthalán Wolfe
Vice-Captain: Kennard Hale
Left Corner: Parthalán Wolfe
Right Corner: Kayden Aleshire
Penalties: Kennard Hale
Free-kicks: Parthalán Wolfe

Team Personality
The Darmeni team will never argue with the referee. Indeed, if anything needs to be brought to the attention of the referee it will be done by either the Captain or Vice-Captain in a respectful manner (or to the fourth-official by the Manager). With regards to foul/dirty play, the Darmeni team will not provoke, or retaliate against any opposition player. Darmeni's expect each team to keep to itself and deal with its own trouble makers; any opposition player who attempts to prevent a conflict by pushing or pulling a Darmeni away from the scene will be promptly told off, as that is the duty of the Darmeni Captain.

Nonetheless, Darmen will play in a relatively aggressive manner. Tackles will be conducted in a way which ensures the opponent ends up on the ground, but causing injury will be avoided as much as possible. On set pieces, Darmenis will stand their ground and will not be easily pushed around. However, they will not engage in hugging. In fact, if any opposing player tries to push past them, it is not uncommon for the Darmeni player to feign resistance before simply stepping aside and watching as the opposing player stumbles past on their way to ground. This occasionally backfires however, as the referee may mistake the incidence as having been a foul in the box.

The Celestial Empire of Naixi (pronounced nye-SHEE) is a coastal country located in the region of Rushmore. It possesses a pleasant, warm-summer Mediterranean climate and largely flat and passable terrain. These factors led to a famous rail line being built in the country, which required the labor of many thousands of Chinese indentured servants. The railroad eventually made Naixi a hub for industry such as mining and manufacturing, but social tensions between the ruling elite and the historically underserved descendants of the rail workers led to a brief but bloody social conflict that began about ten years ago. The unrest began as street protests, but eventually armed conflict swept the region, particularly the east of the country. Cease fires and conditional independence treaties were signed three years ago. Peace has endured so far, but militarization remains high and a policy requiring two years of compulsory military service from all citizens remains in place.

Zhong Xian Xu, a resistance leader during the independence conflict and self-declared general, very briefly became head of state when Naixi's sovereignty was initially declared. He fell ill within a week of accepting the position, however, and his hastily-planned succession plans distributed his administrative and political authority to eight children and grandchildren. Xu selected the number eight in a deliberate reference to the Eight Banners of the Qing Dynasty and declared his successors to be a Celestial Council, then passed away. The Celestial Council attempts to carry on his revolutionary legacy by representing the Naixese state and the racial category of Naixese people more broadly, but it does not have any meaningful powers anymore. Those powers have been redistributed to the 953-seat Parliament of Naixi, which is controlled through a supermajority by the Nationalists for Naixi Party (also referred to as the N4N Party).

The political culture of the country is generally liberal and the WA rates the democratic structures enjoyed by Naixese citizens very highly. General elections must occur at least once every 36 months but can be declared earlier if the Prime Minister fails in a vote of confidence. Almost all forms of speech and art - including politically themed speech and art - are protected rights. The nation's judicial system is young, but it has already built a substantive track record of striking down legislation curtailing freedom of expression. In recent weeks, however, political tensions have grown. A change to parliamentary structure has stripped party members of individual voting power on legislation; MPs may now only vote in party leadership elections and votes of confidence. Both executive and legislative power are now held entirely by the Prime Minister. This has immediately caused the various factions of the N4N Party to go to war with the PM over various issues of contention, and a general election must be coming soon.

Crime is quite low by international standards, but by Rushmori standards it is somewhat high. The Ministry of Law and Order, which controls the National Police and the Department of Corrections, is powerful and well-funded, but divides opinions among the populace. Some view the Ministry as protecting the Naixese national social character, while others view it - in particular the National Police - as an abusive paramilitary organization. An unarmed 15-year-old Rokikoliji boy was shot and killed by a police unit, and none of the officers involved faced prosecution. The Naixese left characterizes the incident as an atrocity. Furthermore, the Ministry has attracted vociferous international criticism for its approach to national cyber security, which has recently been made intentionally laisses faire in a fruitless attempt to mollify technology firms.

These firms, which once were the driver of economic growth in Naixi, have been leaving the country in droves for the last calendar year. This is a result of three major things. First, an unweighted lottery system granting public infrastructure contracts, second, protectionist laws signed by the Prime Minister designed to shelter so-called "old media" such as radio and television from the disruptions of the tech industry, and third, the mostly-unwarranted perception that the government is in bed with organized labor. No metrics measuring the economic health of the country are headed in the right direction, and recent strikes by retail and service workers have forced the passage of guaranteed workers' benefits rules and restrictions on hours of operation, cutting into the once-stupendous profits of restaurant chains and retail giants.

The area that is now known as Naixi also has a long history of being used for metals mining and industrial fishing, and both industries have had negative consequences on ecology. Broadly poor agricultural practices, the prevalence of single-use plastics, lack of regulation around carbon emissions, rudimentary national waste disposal services, and an offshore oil rig accident six months ago are all factors in the nation's infamously bad environmental practices. Air and water pollution are very serious problems nationwide. Funds were recently made available for hydroelectric and solar energy, but these projects are in their infancy and are being resisted by Naixi's captains of industry.

Numerous currents of social conservatism - some nationalist and some religious - are becoming more and more common, and the current government has shown strong sympathy with them. Genetics research, divorce, and alcohol consumption have all been recently banned, mostly all to public applause. Small businesses have broad authority to deny service to members of the LGBTQ community, and racism and xenophobia are extremely commonplace. Even public laughter has been deemed unrelated to speech (which, as mentioned above, is protected) and now requires a permit (which is somewhat-easily obtained but puts you on a government list of "non-religious persons").

The one area as yet untouched by conservative culture war is drug law, which is extremely relaxed. Cannabis is totally deregulated and decriminalized. Growing, possessing, and consuming the plant are all totally legal. Other drugs, too, are very easy to acquire. Pain medications, including opiates, can be obtained with a prescription, and not only can any doctor get you one, any person with a medical degree of any kind can get you one. Only hallucinogens require special effort to find, and that has less to do with state policy and more to do with lack of demand.

The art and culture of the country is often presented in a register consistent with these libertine attitudes around drugs, with the low brow held in higher regard than the high. Classic literature receives the same reverence as rock and hip hop music, and you can study street fashion in local universities but probably have to go abroad to study abstract art. As a consequence of all this, international observers are often quite critical of the country's cultural development. Naixese cuisine in particular is notoriously bad. Pizza is very popular in Naixi - so popular in fact that the pizza delivery sector is completely dominant as a percentage of the national GDP. The pies themselves, though, are often made with cheap ingredients. Crusts are frequently paper thin and flavorless, and the tomato-heavy sauce is often overly salted and overly sweet, with not nearly enough cheese. Global food critics are unashamed to use the word "repellent" to describe it.

Tall, rotund, and deafeningly loud, the 70-year-old Run Ming Kwan is impossible to ignore. He grew up in the capital Chumeichang (then known by a colonial name) as the son of a sanitation worker and a washing machine technician. He began playing football with other Naixese children at age 7, and has relentlessly pursued his favorite sport ever since. As a contemporary of Gan Liang, the man who he is replacing as national team manager, he watched the sport grow alongside the concept of Naixese nationalism, but unlike Liang, his focus was never on development.

Instead, he is known as an energetic motivator and charismatic man manager. His professional experience began when he was given the head coach's position at Fuchou, one of the League of the Two Sapphires clubs based in Qiawutian, Naixi's largest city. There, he led the Avengers in their first top flight season, and molded them into a truly exciting, attacking club that attracted fans at an awesome rate. His role in helping to turn around the poor early-season form of striker Yue Hsieh was an integral part of the Avengers' climb up the table, and they ultimately finished second under his leadership. Had eventual champions Chongjibo not gone on a truly unbelievable run during which they lost once in twenty-five league games, the Avengers might have been in the title race.

Tactically, his Burgundy were famous for their commitment to chance creation and goalscoring, even when it meant they were defensively vulnerable. They played with a mixture of direct and short passing, and were taught to use an aggressive, modern press when out of possession. Fans of the Blues should expect mostly the same, as it is widely assumed that he will favor players who he worked with at Fuchou. This will represent a huge shift for fans of the Naixi national team, both at home and abroad; the Blues' defensive style of play drew particular plaudits during the 80th Baptism of Fire - when it was virtually impossible to score on them - but those days are over.

Kwan's pronouns are he/him.

The national colors of Naixi are sea blue, olive green, and plum, as seen on Naixi's flag. The uniforms of the national team follow this color scheme, as one would expect. The primary shirt, shorts, and socks are all in the classic shade of sea blue, with olive green and plum trim, whereas the change strip features shirt, shorts, and socks of olive green, with sea blue and plum trim.

Image

Note: Though Chinese naming customs almost always see the surname preceding the given name, in Naixi it has become commonplace for the given name to precede the surname. This is a result of being culturally dominated over for so many decades. Efforts are being made to revert to the traditional method, but new habits die as hard as old.

LU FANG HUANG 1 GK CHONGJIBO (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Unnoticed by the Blues during Gan Liang's tenure, this 20-year-old can be avoided no longer. He has conceded just six times in sixteen league games for the Shockwaves at the time of writing, and is a no-brainer for the number one shirt once held by Lao Che Cai. Like Cai, Huang has outstanding distribution and a strong sense of where he ought to be positioned.

LAI HUNG 12 GK QIJI (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Another unfamiliar newcomer to the national team, Hung is perhaps the essential sweeper keeper. Unafraid to wander way off her line when the Wizards are in possession, she's a big part of Qiji's possession-hogging gameplan. As a pure shot stopper, she's not... massively convincing... but Kwan doesn't care. The 28-year-old is just the backup he needs right now.

JI NING 16 GK FOREST CITY ATHLETIC (QUE)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

A prodigy with generational talent, Ning is known for his mental fortitude and usefulness stopping penalties. The 18-year-old is a bit young, isn't a perfect fit for Kwan's system, and hasn't played much at the time of writing (the Quebecois league hasn't begun yet). But he's tall, burly, and determined to win the Blues' starting spot some day, no matter what it takes.

JU YI PAO 2 RB VERIASOD WOLVES (TKT)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

It's been tough for Pao at Veriasod Wolves in Tikariot. His team are in the relegation zone, and he hasn't played well individually. But despite that, Kwan looks at the 31-year-old's tireless attacking work rate and knows there's no need to change course at right back. Lightning fast and totally uninterested in defending, Pao will either make or break Naixi's right wing.

MA HUAN YEP 13 RB QIJI (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Just as it was under Gan Liang, Yep's footedness is ideal for Qiji's possession-based system with inverted wide players, and non-ideal for the national team. The 25-year-old sure is in form for club, though. Given that he can do a job on both the right and the left, it's likely we'll see Kwan use Yep liberally as a substitute. In a pinch, Yep could even do a job in midfield.

JIU LING GENG 5 CB ROGERTON WHITECAPS (DAR)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

The shy and tall 22-year-old defender Geng was once thought to be insufficiently skillful to be a starter for the Blues, but for Aierlanren, his club during his single year in the Naixese top flight, he was among the league's best defenders. His tackling ability is decent and his heading ability is outstanding. He's now playing in Darmen for Rogerton Whitecaps.

XIAO NIAO DONG 6 CB LITALA 93 (MYT)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

Short and petite, Geng's former club teammate Dong might seem at first glance out of place in the starting eleven of a national football team. But the 20-year-old is aggressive in the tackle and shows excellent concentration with the ball at her feet. She's easily beaten in the air, but that didn't stop Mytanar club Litala 93 from splashing out 2 million NSD for her.

HAI YING FU 14 CB AIERLANREN (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

Aierlanren are, it's fair to say, known for their stodgy defending. Would it surprise you to know, then, that yet another product of the Irish center back factory has rolled off the assembly line and straight into the national team? This tall 29-year-old is splendid in the air and is a ruthless tackler. Already fans are demanding Fu be put in the starting eleven.

HANG KI TAN 15 CB BAOMAO (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

As tall as Geng, but too skinny to present the same aerial threat, this 24-year-old is a fan favorite at perennial underdog club Baomao, but he has quite the inconsistent track record with the national team. Tan is actually an above average passer of the ball, and is a more than acceptable tackler, but he will fail every speed test opposition forwards throw at him.

GUAN CAI TSUNG 17 CB CAZADORES CATHAIR (AUD)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

This 19-year-old utility defender is a strong passer and is good in the air. He is a liability when it comes to acceleration and pace, but his versatility makes him useful as he can play anywhere along the back line. Tsung recently accepted a move to Audioslavian powerhouse Cazadores Cathair, where he barely plays. The rumor is that the club have long-term plans for him, though...

KEE TIAN 3 LB LAKEWOOD CITY (TMB)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

This pacey 20-year-old has to do a lot alone on the wing, but he's proven he can do it. He's a specialist in stretching play but also is unlikely to be caught out by opposing wingers or wingbacks as his defensive awareness is strong. Debates have raged for months as to whether Tian's crossing is good or bad, but at Tumbran powerhouse Lakewood City, he has plenty of time to develop.

TAN HUNG XUN 4 DM NONGMIN (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

The anchor of Naixi's midfield, this highly dependable 31-year-old is cautious in her forward movement and deliberate in her passing. Xun's massive transfer to Nongmin at the start of this current season appears to have transformed the Farmers into an elite club. Under Kwan's new attacking system, her humility and defensive instincts will be profoundly valuable.

LAN FANG FEN 18 DM ZHAYAO (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

Naixi won't have a classical attacking midfield playmaker in the way they did under Gan Liang, but if Kwan ever wants one, this 23-year-old has excellent vision and experience playing as a deep-lying playmaker. Fen isn't as defensively solid as Xun, but he was bought by Zhayao to replace the retired Pei Hsi Dai, and he's a better defender than she ever was. (And she was pretty good.)

QI CHAO HARK 8 CM ZHAYAO (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

This dynamic midfielder is a product of Zhayao's youth academy, an institution that seems to spit out aggressive, ferocious, and even violent attacking players at every juncture. Hark is no exception. A ball winner with license to drift out wide - a mezzala, if you will - this 21-year-old has been very good for the Miners so far this year. He's a deserved starter.

KIAN ZHI YUAN 10 CM CHONGJIBO (NIX) C
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: He/Him

The face of the champions Chongjibo, the Naixi captain Yuan is a pure technician. An injury suffered in his early 20s has severely hurt his mobility, but he's so good, it has never mattered to any team he's ever played for. The 28-year-old will play somewhat further back under Kwan than he did for Liang, but that's where he's been playing for the Shockwaves lately too.

SA KOTA YUE 11 CM NONGMIN (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

With Hark playing on the right of Yuan, the other off-center CM for Naixi is Nongmin's Yue, and she is possibly the most in-form of any player in this squad. The 32-year-old is a tenacious off-the-ball presser and has mastered the art of the timed run from deep. Her chipped shot is notoriously deadly and difficult for opposing goalkeepers to gauge, and she's the Farmers' top scorer right now.

MIN JIAO 19 CM SANAR (CMT)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

A mystery to most casual fans, Jiao seems to be a baffling choice. The 18-year-old is a product of the Fuchou youth system, which is why Kwan knows about him, but he hasn't played at all for his new club (struggling Chromatik side Sanar) either. He's probably got a great professional attitude, and probably has a very good work rate, but that's all we got.

KUANG YIN CAO 7 ST ZHAYAO (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Just 19 years old, Naixi's record goalscorer wasn't gonna be left out of the starting eleven, even with Hsieh back. A notorious false nine, Cao has legendary passing qualities, and though his confidence and composure sometimes wane a bit, he's an adequate finisher. He won't venture quite as far back into midfield; Kwan wants him to be more of an orthodox second striker.

YUE HSIEH 9 ST FUCHOU (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: She/Her

Hsieh has the look of an ordinary target woman, but the tattooed 27-year-old does a fair bit more than win the ball in the air. In addition to being tall and good at headers, she is a capable passer and is Naixi's best pure finisher. Her mobility and pace aren't the best, but Kwan's loyalty to his favorite player from when he managed Fuchou knows no bounds. She's undroppable.

CHEN LING 20 ST AIERLANREN (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Chumeichang - Pronouns: She/Her

Ling is far from a good forward. However, as the fastest player in the squad, her ability to capitalize on space left in behind defenders is feared by opponents of Aierlanren in the League of the Two Sapphires. The 31-year-old is accustomed to long stretches of matches where she does not get a touch, and is perfectly happy if her only touch puts the ball in the back of the net.

JEN TA JIN 21 ST FUCHOU (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Fuchou may play with them now, but when Kwan was in charge, he abhorred wingers, preferring his full backs or midfielders to stretch play. Unpolished, tactically uneven, and forever wandering around in wide areas, Jen Ta Jin is emphatically not rated by the new Naixi manager. The 18-year-old is a wonderful dribbler; maybe that will get him time as a substitute?

TAK HING JIN 22 ST SHESHOU (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Qiawutian - Pronouns: He/Him

Similar in many ways to his younger brother, 22-year-old Tak Hing Jin has undeniable talent. Full of pace (though below average in height) and a dangerous direct dribbler, Jin is in outstanding form for his club. Like his brother, he's been in and out of the Naixi starting eleven, but unlike his brother, he plays as a second striker for his club. Under Kwan, this is a plus.

WEI YAN LIN 23 ?? YANJIANG (NIX)
Image

Race: Naixese - Hometown: Bao - Pronouns: She/Her

Like Jen Ta Jin, she plays as an winger for her club, but Jin at least has a history of being shoehorned into a second striker role. Lin does not. As a result, it's completely unknown how Kwan will attempt to use this 24-year-old, who is, admittedly, the only reason Yanjiang can still keep themselves up. Perhaps she'll be asked to slot in as a midfielder? As a full back?

Image

(1) Huang

(2) Pao (14) Fu (6) Dong (3) Tian

(4) Xun

(8) Hark (10) Yuan (11) Yue

(7) Cao (20) Ling

While the shape has not radically changed since Gan Liang's time in charge of the national team - the full backs are still the only source of width, there are still two center backs, there are still two strikers - the style of play for the Blues has. The double pivot of Xun and Dai is the most obvious alteration, and it will absolutely transform Naixi from a defensive side to an attacking one. Huang, like Cai before him, will be perpetually off his line, mopping up through balls and distributing to defenders. Both center backs will be looking to build slowly, though with Hsieh back up there, Kwan isn't going to tell them not to simply get it launched. The full backs will, as it was before, be solely responsible for creating width and stretching play. Xun's role will be fascinating to watch, as she may drop even further back than she ever did before... perhaps so deep that she is behind the center backs while Naixi are in possession. Hark, Yuan, and Yue will all look to win the ball back fast and hard, with Yuan expected to stay central and the others tasked with exploiting the half-wing area. Finally, Hsieh and Cao will both be looking to score goals first and foremost, as Liang's convoluted system of false nines and trequartistas has been abandoned. We have a good old fashioned number nine and a good old fashioned number ten.

If trailing, Kwan will almost certainly tell Yuan to disregard his defensive responsibilities and stay in the half space as an attacking midfielder, and perhaps will pull one of Hark or Yue in favor of a third striker. If trying to protect a lead, Kwan will... change very little. Ask Fuchou fans, they saw how he handled lead protection last year. He simply tells his players to go and score again.

Either way, the general style of the squad is set, with a high back line, somewhat narrow shape (so that the wingbacks can bomb up and down in plenty of space), attacking mentality, a mixture of direct passing and short build-up play, pressing, and counter-pressing. The style modifier below will never change.

Naixi's style modifier will be +3.

Nyowani Kitara National Team

The national team is the country's main symbol that they are a repaired country, one that is moving past the horrors of their Civil War. They have fully established themselves on the international stage, particularly through the World Cup. They've now qualified for the last three World Cups in a row, reaching the semifinals of World Cup 92, while following that up with a respectable Round of 16 finish at World Cup 93.

World Cup 92 was when they really captured hearts and minds of the international community, as they made their own Cinderella Run through the tournament. Their run including a 2-0 win over the eventual world champions, Zwangzug. Some criticized the run, as it had 4 draws- group stage draws against Kelssek and Farfadillis, as well as penalty shootout wins against both TJUN-ia, and Pemecutan. NYK were felled in their rematch against Zwangzug in the World Cup 92 semifinals- but still, an absolutely shocking run for them to get there.

It was not a fluke- them winning two games at World Cup 93, before going down to the co-hosts, Chromatika, in the Round of 16 proved to the nation that they are a power in this sport. But that has not translated on the regional stage- they've still never won a knockout stage match in the Copa Rushmoris. The modern generation of footballers is probably nearing retirement- their preferred front 4 are all 33 or older. Can they end stellar international careers with a trophy? Or how will they pass on the legacy of NYK football(which consistently pretty much exists of only them) to the next generation?

Information
Country code: NYK
Denonym: New Kitaran
Association: Kitara's Workers Footballing Association(KWFA)
Manager: Liang Wei(Yuezhou). 55 years old. A former assistant manager for Yuezhou during their communist era, he is a good selection for the country to lead the national team. He understands the pressures of international football, and yet, as a committed communist, was definitely acceptable to the powers that be in Nyowani Kitara who hired him. He has also taken over the role of Executive Chairman of the KWFA at-large, which, functionally, makes him his own boss.

His role has become certainly more challenging. As a committed communist, he is in political opposition to the new government, but he has generated plenty of goodwill for guiding Nyowani Kitara successfully through their first ever World Cup Qualification. Since he's been to two more World Cups, and the knockout stages of both, his job is beyond safe- tends to happen when you take them from being a war-torn civil war nation, to one that has reached the top 10 of the KPBs. While he has not parlayed success in World Cup tournaments to success at the regional level, there is hope that he can work his magic at a regional tournament that's on home soil.

Senior Assistant Manager: Raira Ouma. 45 years old.
Captain: Odede Angonga
Alternate Captain: Odour Bigombe
CR ranking: 14th
KPB ranking: 10th

Notes:
- Our free kicks are taken by Wang Jiahui. Penalties are taken by Odede Angonga.

Wang Jiahui
- Wang is a mobile forward most at home as a penalty-box predator, but who also loves playing on the right wing and cutting inside to unleash long-range shots. Wang Jiahui was once conisdered the next big thing in Yue football. While his footballing talent remains, his diehard support for Ren Qiang's doomed socialist regime in Yuezhou turned him into a POW and a fugitive in the newly-established United Republics, and so he had to go abroad. Finding a home in Mytanija, he's risen to stardom with the opportunity focus solely on club football, with Litala '93. But he's itching to get back into international duty. Wang Jiahui, as a supporter of Ren Qiang, was also a very loud supporter of President Nafuna Akongo during the civil war. He even held a fundraiser for the KPWC in the early stages of the war, when it looked as if the Kitara Revolutionary Forces would collapse. Therefore, without a country, the President reached out, and gave him an award for 'special services to the state'. She also, surprisingly, gave him citizenship- a unique power of the President in the Kitaran Constitution. Despite diplomatic protests and strong protests from other FAs, as he is a Kitaran citizen, he is eligible to represent Nyowani Kitara in international competition- so his compatriot, Liang Wei, has called him up.

Kamzuni Chinwemwe
- A refugee to Banija as a result of the civil war, he has finally done what nobody has expected him to do- earned a callup to play for his country. Previously banished, on a functional level, from national team duty as a result of his anti-Akongo views, Liang Wei has finally invited him to play for the national team, in recognition of Muhoozi Kulan's ascension to the Presidency. While the remaining defectors from the World Cup 90 Qualification cycle seem unlikely to ever play for the national team ever again, Chinwemwe's call-up will only serve to further strengthen Liang Wei's position as the most powerful man in sport in NYK.

The playmaker is very talented, but also inconsistent- he has games where he lits the world on fire, and you're wondering why he doesn't play for a team like Raynor City United. Then, the next game, you're wondering how he got out of the third division. He can do it all- pass, dribble, shoot, etc... But he is very prone to fail spectacularly. Can he earn consistent playing time for the national team here as they chase for their first ever piece of silverware?

Defectors
The following players have defected from the national team during World Cup 90 Qualifying, due to opposition to the ruling regime as a result of the Civil War. They are no longer banned from the NT, but the manager doesn't ever seem likely to call them up.
RM #17 Vilgot Westermark. 36 years old. Osterland ethnic group. Starter for Matchdays 1-3. Benched for Matchdays 4 & 5 for speaking out against the ruling regime, defected and quit the NT between Matchdays 5 and 6. After being a refugee in Tikariot(and his family refugees in Eura), he is back living at home in NYK, but still on the outs regarding the NT.
LM #7 Johannes von Weber. 35 years old. Zealander ethnic group.
CM #8 Arendt Sundin. 37 years old. Osterland ethnic group. Starter for Matchdays 1-5. Defected and quit the NT between Matchdays 5 and 6 after speaking out against the regime. A refugee in Chromatika.

Arvid Handsdotter
[M/He/Him] Hansdotter is being called the future of Kitaran football. While, of course, there is always some hyperbole with declarations like that from countries that are new to this, he impressed in league play in Nyowani Kitara as one of the league's most consistent players, even at his young age. While his effort defending varies wildly, he's got a laser focus when going forward. He can pin point passes, and moves well without the ball to help pull apart defenses. Almost everybody agrees that he's good enough to start for the NYK national team- however, his vocal support of Osterlander independence left him blackballed from the national team. But with a new government, Liang Wei, with an eye towards making limited concessions so KWFA power isn't stripped away from him, has brought Hansdotter to the forefront for the national team.

A True Valhallan, Iosef was actually a member of the last Terns squad way back in Copa Rushmori XXVII, albeit from the bench. Never quite hit the heights that people expected from him whilst he was an international player, but has turned out to be quite the astute tactician during the long decades of closed borders. Has been handed the reins of the national team by the newly formed VFA for this first tournament out of international isolation, and you can rest assured that Party members will be watching him closely. It's no big deal. It's only our international reputation at stake. Now, sit up straight, get your hand on your heart, and sing the national anthem. Louder! And hold still, I'm trying to stitch a bit more gold braid onto your epualettes...

Assistant Manager: Federico Aalto, 49
A True Valhallan, Aalto's Kulmsaari background means he is born from the same cradle that supported the Party in their rally against Sargossan influence and used it to gain power in the Federation. The Party will be relying on his presence to gently remind the players of what is at stake. VFA members will also be hoping that his attacking tendencies temper Miroshnichenko's conservative leanings. Clean sheets are important, sure, but scoring is fun. Now, sing up. Aut pax, aut bellum!

A True Valhallan, and, yes, the manager's son. He is actually good, though. A bright future awaits.

TACTICS: 3-4-2-1
The Polarian game used to be methodical, abrasive, technical, and physical. It remains to be seen what this latest incarnation of the Terns will play like, but Miroshnichenko will likely be setting out to mostly frustrate the opposition in an attempt to avoid humiliation on this return to the international stage, rather than play sweeping attacking football that leaves us open at the back. Also frustrated by this approach will likely be assistant manager Federico Aalto, whose basis in the Kulmsaari game means his base instinct is to always attack. With one coach hellbent on defending, and the other on attacking, Commander Knudsen and his newly appointed Valhallan Football Association have hired the perfect combination of talent to advertise a True Valhallan way of life to the outside multiverse for the first time in nearly three decades. The back three of Dahm, Olsen, and Boes will not be taking risks, and will sit back at almost all times, only really going beyond the halfway line should a corner be taken. Braun and Carlquist will often be the first line in attack when a counter-attack is sprung, rushing forwards quickly to support Nylund and Heimark in their task of supplying throughballs and chips forward for Eisenhauer - a skilled technical finisher and extremely capable physical player. The midfield of Pallasmaa and Holst will largely be tasked with protecting the defence and breaking up the attacks of the opposition, although Pallasmaa's eye for a pass means in games we dominate he will often be the metronome in the heart of the field.

But, none of them were True Valhallans. So. Debatable as to whether these records really count...

THE OPPONENT CAN
Choose my goalscorers? Yes.
Godmod scoring events? Yes.
RP injuries to my players? Yes, within reason, and I reserve the right to change the severity in a follow-up RP.
Godmod injuries to my players? Yes, as above.
Hand out yellow cards to my players? Yes.
Hand out red cards to my players? Yes, but only 2 per match maximum, and never to my captain or vice-captain.
Godmod other events? TG me first, but I'm always open to ideas.

A quick RP note:
I am going to be RPing this return to nationstates (as and when RPs are forthcoming) as if the Federation is no longer the nordic bastion of civil rights and political freedoms that you might remember. The long absence from international sport is thanks to an isolationist and paranoid military police state taking over, using whipped up fear against the Sargossans' claim to Kulmsaar and Terra Scotia as both carrot and stick. Which should make our group stage game interesting... Citizens are now more concerned with achieving the title of True Valhallan, achieved through either military service, civil service, or, now, representing your national in international sport. Yes, Commander Knudsen has finally acquiesced to allow the Terns to compete internationally again, with the exercise potentially seen as a good way to advertise the new Valhalla to the outside world. The nation has also taken a rather more bullying tone towards the rest of the Valhallan Union, with Minor Valhalla now very much pressured into living up to its geographical title, and not best pleased about it. So, the nation is no longer closed, but travelling fans will not be permitted. The Terns will be supported, if at all, by restricted to ex-pats and those seeking asylum in foreign countries already, although the promise of security forces that will be travelling with the team will likely put many off entirely. It's Valhalla, Jim, but not as we know it.

Brief informational summary
Captina Island is the southernmost nation in Rushmore, made up of 6.3 million people of which approximately 31% are ethnic Captini--the native Polynesian type peoples who occupied the island prior to discovery--and 42% Italini, descendants of the settlers who arrived after 1922, with about 20% identifying themselves as mixed. The remainder are of other ethnic backgrounds and nationalities.

Captina Island thrives in all aspects of life thanks to the rigorous discipline of “The Plan” (officially known as The Captina Island National Community Operation Master Plan [CINCOMP]) which organizes the priorities, agenda, and the day to day running of proper society within the Armed Republic.

All economic affairs are controlled by the five major privately owned corporations that operate under the provisions of The Plan, holding exclusive license to conduct the nationwide administration of the following areas:

Captina National Organization (CNO)--Defense/Health & Medical/Education
State Economic Corporation (SEC)--Retail/Banking/Transportation/Technology
Industrial & Manufacturing Alliance (IMA)--Production/Raw Materials/Wholesale
The Captina Company (TCC)--Social/Entertainment/Utilities
Brandstadter Corporation Authority (BCA)--Food/Agriculture/Construction

Any remaining areas that would be under the control of a constituted government are handled by The Burkett Group, which is owned in equal shares by the five main corporations and a public ownership scheme funded by a 50 crown (about NS$10) per week deduction from the wages of all citizens. TBG functions as a bureaucratic administrative body, coordinating inter-company affairs in addition to providing the personnel for things like police/fire protection, vital statistics record keeping, public spaces maintenance, and other public services.

TBG operates from the National Capital District of Big Flint which has a population of 84,000, while the other corporations each have their own headquarters city, although they have nationwide operations; within each major city, the 'affiliated' companies have satellite offices to handle the daily business.

Copa Rushmori 43 Preview

The groups have been set and 40 nations are sending their sides to Nyowani Kitara for another Copa Rushmori. Let New Game break down Oberour Ar Moro and the four teams they will be facing in the group stage. We do this research so you don't have to:

____OBEROUR AR MORO____

Fourteenth Copa Rushmori, debuted in CR2
Best Finish: Round of 16 in CR32 and CR39

The Dragoons of Oberour Ar Moro are usually rubbish in the Copa Rushmori. Here are the facts that back this up. The Dragoons have a 5-14-25 record overall in the tournament. They have never won more than one match at a time in the tournament. They have more pointless Copas (three) than times they have advanced out of the group stages (two). There may be good or not so good reasons for these performances, but it doesn't change the fact that every international cycle Oberours have grit their teeth as they face up against their Rushmore neighbors and then get steamrolled. But put on a brave face. Every tournament is a new opportunity to turn luck around.

What are they hoping for: Second place in their group and advancing to the Group of 16 would feel like a major accomplishment.

_______KLAKAHOLLIN_______

First Copa Rushmori

The Reds of Klakahollin are one of five nations taking part in their first Copa Rushmori. Though it's not their first foray in international football: They debuted in the most recent Brevity Cup, going 0-2-1 with a fairly defensive style. That style makes a lot of sense for their limited player pool, and if they can use that to frustrate Oberour Ar Moro on Matchday One that could set them up for a solid tournament.

What are they hoping for: A solid finish in the group that lets them build for the future.

____THE ASKARI UNION____

Twelfth Copa Rushmori, debuted in CR25
Best Finish: Round of 16 in CR25, CR28, and CR29

The Askari Union's la Delfenoj were regular overachievers while playing a defensive style, but are trying to find some new consistency while turning themselves into an attacking side. Their local media don't seem to have much hope of success in this tournament. But it was only one tournament ago where la Delfenoj surprised Mytanija on their home soil, and snatched a draw from Oberour Ar Moro. Hey, these names sound familiar...

What are they hoping for: To demonstrate that their reversal of philosophy is working and winning a match or two.

_________TIKARIOT__________

Eighth Copa Rushmori, debuted in CR36
Best Finish: Champion in CR42

When an Oberour player wants to get a pay raise, they travel to Tikariot. The step up in quality and pay is reflected by the Snowy Owls internationally. The defending Copa Rushmori champions are bringing their new crest and jerseys to Nyowani Kitara in the hopes of becoming back-to-back Copa winners, joining such nations as Sargossa, Nephara, Pasarga, Polar Islandstates, and Somewhereistonia.

What are they hoping for: Another trip to the finals to defend their crown.

_________MYTANIJA_________

Twenty-First Copa Rushmori, debuted in CR4
Best Finish: Champion in CR17

Mytanija won Copa Rushmori 17 but shortly after went on a hiatus from international football. They returned for Copa Rushmoris 31 and 32, winning the Third Place Match in CR32, and then stepped away again until CR36. In that tournament as a unranked side they picked up where they left off and went all the way to the Semi-Finals. Since then, Mytanija regularly sits around 8th place in the Copa Rushmori rankings, and seem overdue for breaking out to win that second Copa.

What are they hoping for: To be in the finals again, as they surely feel they should be.

Team Cassadaigua- Copa Rushmori 43

Coach- Chen Huikang (56)

The post Brittany Byers era begins with the first international manager hired to coach the national team since Alexander Pappas led the team. Pappas only led the team to World Cup champions in the 50th and 51st editions, so while the expectations will not be to duplicate that right away, the nation is confident with him at the helm. In all of Cassadagan sports, he is only the second international manager to be taken on. The other was Maddie Polanco in baseball, who also ultimately led Cassadaigua to a title. Chen has experience with the national team of his homeland, Yuezhou, and his domestic record includes a successful stint with CSKA Quebec. With several key Cassadagan players also playing in Quebec, that was also seen as an asset. Chen likes an attacking style, and should fit in just fine.

Assistant- Kimberly Carson (45) (Winchester City)

It may not have been easy for CASE to find an assistant to Chen, as some of the top domestic candidates for the position may have felt a little slighted that they did not get the head coaching job. Hannah Shanley, the longtime assistant to Brittany Byers, took her name out of the running right away, saying that she would only want the head job. Also, Jessica Tolson, another top candidate did similar. This leaves Carson, who was successful with the national team for multiple Cups and has since moved on and made Winchester City more of a title threat within the CSL. The defender will focus on that aspect of play to coincide with Chen's attacking mindset.

Starters in Green
Subs in Blue
Reserves in Red

Goalkeepers:
#20- Stacie Thornton (29) (New Lakeland Soccer Club)- Starter WC 92 & 93, CR 41, Sub WC 91, Reserve WC 90 & CR 40, Sub DBC 51
#40- Stacey Schalberg (24) (Grande Mountain)- Reserve CR 41
#30- Erica Knapp (22) (Concord Heights City)- Reserve WC 93

Stacie Thornton is in the prime of her career and not the reason why the nation failed to qualify for the last World Cup. You can argue that she was the main reason that the team even had a chance in the last matchday to possibly still make the playoff. While there will be some players that need to impress Chen during the Copa Rushmori, he's well aware of what Thornton can do. The competition here is who comes after her, and you will notice that Cynthia Kerr is not listed above. She's 32, so could still be here, and did not opt out of the Copa Rushmori. Chen wants to get a good look at Schalberg, who's been a slow developer with Grande Mountain, but they did just win a CSL title. Knapp is not far behind him and while their competition will mainly be in practice, or is something happens to Thornton, the two of them know they have their greatest career opportunity, in regards to the national team, right here and now.

Defenders:
#2- Madison Rutland (28) (Starksville Coastal)- Starter WC 91-93 , CR 40-42, DBC 51 & 52 (TEAM CAPTAIN)
#28- Tiffany Brown (23) (Starksville Coastal)- Sub WC 93 & CR 42
#3- Alyssa Marlin (23) (Winchester City)- Starter WC 93, Sub CR 42
#6- Rachel Becker (24) (New Lakeland SC)- Starter WC 93 & CR 42, Sub WC 92, Reserve CR 41

#4- Brianna Ward (30) (Victoriaville South End)- Starter WC 91-93, CR 40-42 & DBC 51, Sub CR 39
#21- Hailey Meyer (26) (Kingston FC, Quebec)- Sub WC 92 & 93, Starter DBC 52 & CR 42

#38- Michelle Lawson (21) (Winchester City)- International Debut
#45- Maddie Hertel (24) (White Mountain)- International Debut

There are no surprises with the starters on this roster. Three of the four also started in the World Cup, and are still up and coming players. Tiffany Brown is the newcomer to the starting lineup, but she got quite a bit of playing time in the last World Cup, and made quite an impression. Being teammates with Madison Rutland domestically will only benefit this team over the long haul. Alyssa Marlin is quickly becoming one of the top defenders in the country, and her being assigned a new lower kit number, #3, shows that the team expects her to be here a while. Rachel Becker is the strongest of these players, and provides a needed physical element. There is plenty of skill on the bench too, but reportedly Brianna Ward is not happy with being demoted from the starting lineup. That will be something that people might hear more about as the competition progresses.

Midfielders:
#8- Krystal Sherwin (30) (Northern Union, Brenecia)- Starter WC 90-93, DBC 51, CR 39-42
#37- Kaitlin Millikan (23) (Concord Heights City)- Sub CR 42 & WC 93, Reserve WC 92
#39- Jenna Stokley (23) (New Lakeland SC)- Sub WC 93, Reserve WC 92 & CR 42

#46- Lauren Engle (18) (Montreal Koreana, Quebec)- Starter RTC 18
#47- Chrissy Engle (18) (Shirley Metros Ladies FC, Baker Park)- Starter RTC 18
#48- Rachel Wyman (18) (Montreal City, Quebec)- Starter RTC 18

#49- Sierra Torres (22) (Concord Heights Suburban)- International Debut
#50- Kayla Carras (19) (Sterling Heights)- International Debut

The midfield was the undoing of the team in the last World Cup, and the only starter that is going to return from that group is Krystal Sherwin. Morgan Rosenblatt is still playing at her age, but she has lost a step, and it showed. Kelsey Werth was inconsistent, but still may be in the mix for further consideration. You will also not see Marquis Miles here, but that is because he is playing with the all-male team in the Tea Cup. While the Engle twins, and Rachel Wyman are seen as the future, right now Millikan and Stokley need a longer long. Millikan did impress in the latter half of qualifying, and had a strong Cup of Harmony. The Engles and Wyman being part of this team was a little surprising at their ages, and if they do well, they may be in the World Cup sooner than expected. Sierra Torres gets lost in the shuffle sometimes, and if Kayla Carras is on the pitch, be advised that she is a physical bruiser. As far as the kit numbers here, they imply that people still need to win their spots, therefore more preferable lower numbers have not been assigned to them.

Forwards:
#43- Lexi McGregor (21) (Starksville United)- Sub WC 93, CR 42, Reserve WC 92
#34- Lacey Sherwood (21) (Rutland Dockside)- Reserve WC 93 & CR 42
#29- Shannon Cunningham (20) (Alino, Chromatika)- Sub WC 93 & CR 42

#19- Chloe Anderson (26) (Montreal Koreana, Quebec)- Starter WC 92 & 93, CR 40-42 & DBC 51, Sub WC 90 & 91
#12- Carly Patterson (27) (Grande Mountain)- Starter WC 93, CR 42, DBC 52, Sub WC 92, Reserve WC 91, CR 41

#27- Allyson Perry (26) (Winchester City)- Sub WC 92, CR 41, Starter DBC 52, Reserve WC 91, 93 & CR 42
#42- Danielle Watson (20) (Brattleboro Westside)- International Debut

The time is now for Lexi McGregor, though the bigger question will be how will Chen Huikang handle her prima donna attitude? Obviously, he knows that Lexi's performance will have a lot to do with his own success here, but Lexi is also well aware of that, so how will she approach that? Shannon Cunningham, personality wise, is the polar opposite of McGregor, being the responsible workhorse, though on the field, they have seemed to work well together. The third starter here being Sherwood was a little unexpected, as both Anderson and Patterson are downgraded to the substitute roles. Fans of them should not be too concerned, though, as this does not mean they wouldn't be World Cup starters. Perry is used to her role as a reserve or sub at this point, but has been competent when given a chance. The name you don't see here is Rachel Bolden, and that is because she has chosen to opt out of the Copa Rushmori. She may have her reasons for that, which you will probably hear about during the competition.

It is a trio of solid but not elite keepers, at least on the international stage. Tomáš Přibyl has been an absolute legend in the Eastfield Lodge league, keeping clean sheets there as if it was going out of style from an early age. It really has been impressive to see how some natural talent found a way to develop and flourish, making him a good shot stopper with good communication skills with the backline. However it just is not the same with the Wanderers, though the fault is usually not with the keeper. He is the best that the Wanderers have though and naturally gets to carry on with the number one shirt for now, though he, the coaching staff, and the fans would all love for him to be able to find a way to show the sort of ability he has domestically with the national team on a more consistent basis.

Defense is difficult, especially in an age where talented strikers and attackers are a dime a dozen and every single team has someone who can tear your team apart if you let them. The defense for the Wanderers was at time atrocious and other times pristine during the World Cup cycle and like the entire team itself it needs to find some consistency. Few changes have been made but the big one is not calling up the captain to the team and instead handing that duty off to Mozes Szölôsi, although some would say that fellow starting centerback Szescõ Erôss might have been the better choice. Duke of the North's obstinance in playing defense first football does not win them many fans domestically but it has produced elite defenders and three of the four starters are on the roster, though all are not selected to start. Svatoš and Szôcs will be relishing the change in formation and system though, as both fullbacks like to get forward and with a manager who is not afraid to unleash them into the attack, it will be quite interesting to see how they perform, if club form where they are excellent can be translated into at least consistently good form with the national team.

Changing to a five man midfield will be a change that in theory will be easy enough for the Wanderers to take care of, given a plethora of talented center mids as well as wingers and wide midfielders. Yet it is perhaps the most important position in the new formation that there looks to be a lack of depth, with the destroyer role really only being one or two players deep, both in the prime of their careers but none currently looking to come in after. It does mean that the talented Ba gets on the field as a box to box player, while Kárpáty and Sebeôk handle the more offensive and defensive duties of the midfield respectively. Out on the wings, Gillen Madrigal López is being given her due, with perhaps having the most winners medals of anyone on the team with her success at Raynor City United in Valanora. Having someone who is engrossed so wholely in a winners atmosphere like her could do wonders for the mentality of the team moving forward, likewise for the younger but as talented Kat Földessi on the right wing from CA Paulinthal.

Strikers

What will it take to make the attackers on the team turn in consistent performances? That has been the issue plaguing the national team for a few cycles now and despite a wealth of individual talent, no matter who has been the starters, the efforts have been a heavily mixed bag. It is the theme of the team and the enigma of how players who display such wonderful talent domesitcally fail to achieve it on the national team that has been the curse for the team for some time now. As such, you simply have to put the best up front and hope that they have it in them to finish the chances that they will be provided. Salai is that man, having first made it big in Valanora with Ibini and then in Audioslavia with Zozi, but he needs to do it regularly with the national team. Magana is a clinical finisher but even he has has troubles, while Sallay has perhaps bloomed too late but is there if needs must or a change in formation is ever in order. Regardless of whoever is up front, goals have been at a premium and that scarcity is why the team failed so miserably at the Finals, a feat that will be bitterly fresh in all their minds.

Tactics

Zachary Orengo has come into the manager position and thrown the traditional Pasargan 4-4-2 and possession based attack out of the window. Orengo has brought in the press to the Wanderers, sacrificing one of the strikers for a stronger presence in the midfield to keep the middle from getting overrun when the press can not turn the defense over. In possession the formation turns into a 3-5-2 with one of the wingbacks moving forward to fill in the channel and produce a passing triangle while the other stays back as cover. The change in tactics managed to salvage the Wanderers' qualifying campaign, getting them into the Playoff and then from there into the Finals. The attack floundered in the Finals but with a month more of training, there is hope it can show promise in the Copa.
