Team update: Stung by the opening loss, the Sardines quickly looked to get back up to speed with a blowout win over the slightly unfortunate United Adaikes, who bore the brunt of a team looking to shake off the frustrations of the previous game. Ra’eed Coleman (20pts/5asts) and Tom Powell (16pts) led the scoring as the team hit 12-of-30 three-pointers in a firestorm of scoring that saw the Sardines put up 100 points. All five starters reached double figures as the team shot 52.7% from the floor, with Justin Griffin (15pts/11rbds) pulling down a double-double. The defense kept United Adaikes to under 44% shooting on the night. Afterwards coach Markus Volgelstein praised Coleman for running the pick-and-roll well in the absence of starting point guard Késhaun Cunningham. "He took his chance to lace them up and played a really good game for us." Hosts Valentine Z smashed Trolleborg, leaving just three teams on a 2-0 record, including giants (in every sense) Drawkland. The Sardines next play experienced IBC sides HUElavia and Southwest Eastnorth, and Coleman can expect to compete for time on the floor with fit-again Cunningham.
Injury update: Cunningham is fit to play again. Nate Connell is out indefinitely with an ankle injury.
News update: Emily Moore, a Liberal MAE for Kent, has introduced legislation to the Assembly of Esportiva intended to provide for "fair working time practices". The bill would legislate for an Esportiva-wide 40 hour workweek. The bill has immediately met with criticism from fellow Hannasean MAEs. Daniel Tyler of the Conservative Party criticised the bill as "overstepping the mark". "The Assembly was never intended to legislate on these kinds of domestic matters." Kimberley Talley of the SuccDem Party however, while noting that the bill lacked an absolute cap on the total workweek, and that the SuccDems would lobby for the inclusion of such a cap. The bill permits nations to make limited exceptions, with the Esportivan Court of Justice expected to rule on specific cases. Already, Hannasean fisherfolk are making petitions to the government to provide allowances for the extensive nightwork involved in off-shore fishing.
