Map of Valanora

Valanora Information
The most important thing to know about traveling through Valanora is that automobiles are banned except for government officials. A high tech railway system connects the entirety of the nation, with three most popular international airports in Raynor City, Gladerial, and Baysleef. A ferry from Rinaldi travels to and from the island of Capri every hour on the hour. The most distinguishing feature of Valanora is the prevalent amount of forests standing in many of the inner half of the nation, even in cities, with the elven attempts to live in harmony with nature. Vanorians are a polite if not a bit high on themselves, believing elvenkind to be superior to humans, though they show a respect for the potential their humanoid cousins have.

Look! A Roster Post!

After a creative burnout the likes of which have rarely been seen around these parts Milchama has finally posted a roster just one day before the AOCAF competition despite having a tab open and an RP not really ready to go for about a week now. As Coach Daryl Lamerain said, "It really should have already been posted by now. I mean I already know who's on the roster and so do the important people but the public should know these things before MD1."

Oh yeah we should also mention that this roster is very experimental and is meant to bridge to the next generation of Milchamian stars as the Wilson, Floren etc. generation probably only have one more WC in them.

And we can't agree with Lamerain more, so, without further ado, we present the Milchamian roster for AOCAF 68:

Coach: Darryl Lamarein - Lamarein was pro in something other than sports, namely an accountant, when he was asked to take over the finances of Mongol FC, then a third division side. After getting the finances in order he also noticed they tended to make more money and play better if they used different tactics with different players. He eventually convinced the GM to let him try that for one game. They won 6-0. They did it the next game, they won 6-2. Lamarein was then made coach of the Mongols where he led them to straight promotions. Then people got angry at him and had him manage the national team assuming that he would get paid for a do nothing job. Then the Isolation ended and now he's doing things. Who knows what's up?

GK: Ishtvan Martin - Now the first string goalie. Good for him!
D: Eric Hexidevorah - Not half of something but all of something. Eric is a great outside defender able to play on both wings.
D: Dervan Kelliers CB - One of the new young CBs that has risen through the ranks in Milchama. Many compare him to Wilson as young'un. Expect him to start very soon.
D: Emmet Abbot - Goes by Earl. Known of his passing out of the back.
M: Kelly Filimitov - LM - Lefty dead ball specialist. Also very good at crosses.
M: Amy Cekarn - CM - Defensive mid. Known for defensive solidity
M: Tris Listener - Not a speaker. Nominative determinism would say he should play baseball but he chose soccer and never looked back.
F: Marcus Affilianus - Of non-Jewish descent but very good at soccer. This works out for him because it's the latter bit that people in football care about.
F: Tzvi ben Yochanan - Fast goalscoring forward. Known for his long runs where he's just onside near the last defender.
F: Ruth Altanan - Being the leading scorer in three different leagues finally put Altanan on the team. She deserves it.
F: Marius McFly - Great crosser of the ball, also surprisingly springy for his height. Watch out for this kid.

Subs:
GK: LaDonte Crenter - Second string. He also occasionally plays left back.
GK: Dani Gal - Not Irish but a wave.
D: George Trois - The third George. Better than the first two Georges
D: Eric ben Red - Known for his complexion as much as his hard tackling.
M: Tiam Hotonon - RM - Led the Invading Crusaders to a surprise 2nd place and got himself into the national team picture.
M: Cal Kamet CM - The rare Milchamian attacking mid. Nobody really knows what to do with Kemet because they play in all sorts of weird spaces that don't traditionally exist in Milchama. Has led to them leading the goal scoring 2 of the last 3 years in the New Babylon league. They/them.
M: Colm Interlasskoti - RF - Was once Milchama's greatest prospect. Then Milchama's greatest bust and now, finally, at 26 in the starting lineup. They/them pronouns. Usually plays forward but is playing backup midfield for experience in this team. Will be a starter at the next WC.
F: Yoni Flominon - Incredible passing skills has led to multiple assist titles in the Karakorum League for Flominon. Moved up to Alexandria and immediately got a starting position for Jasper's Creepers. Some think it's a reach but I don't.
F: Millie Kouriea - Plays with Floren at club level. Her ability to link up with him on offense has led to mini revival for Floren in club football so they figured why not put her on the national team as well? It works out we think.
F: Abby Goldshires - Outside striker who is known for her technical vision and skill. Still very young with a lot to work on.
F: Aiden McDavies - Has no idea what's he's doing here and we don't either. Will probably score all the goals.

"We're hosting part of the AOCAF!"

"That's so cool I can't wait to see a Milchama tournament game at home! The last time we could do that was during World Cup 32 and nobody was alive then"

"Well except for the zombies who now live among us thanks to that failed newspaper experiment"

"Fair enough"

"So let's look at the groups"

Group E
Baker Park
Crystal Empire
Jabal Akhdar
Milchama
Gyatso-kai
Heller Turm

"Not bad"

"Where is it hosted?"

"Hosted in: Baker Park"

"Wait, what?!"

"Milchama is not in Milchama?!"

"What the hell?????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"HOW??????????????!!!!!!!!"

"Ugh"

"This sucks!"

"This really sucks!"

"So who can we see?"

Group F
Ngolia
Qasden
Verceola
Vilita and Turori
The Jovannic
Pluvia and the Saxean Isles

"So we got the combined Vilita and Turori who always bring out some experimental crap in AOCAF"

"I mean so do we"

"Yeah, I agree, I'm just less excited to see V &T do that"

"Fair enough"

"Then a bunch of mediocrities who didn't qualify for the last World Cup"

"I mean Qasden was 9th in their group, Jovannic 9th, Pluvia 7th, etc. Like who cares?"

"We should care about regional championships"

"I'm excited to see us kick ass in curling but I don't need to see these mediocrities play"

"You're buying tickets aren't you?"

"Oh I've already bought tickets but that doesn't mean I won't complain"

"So who are you rooting for?"

"Whoever offers me the largest bribe"

"You know that's not a bad idea"

"I know, it's why I'm doing it"

"Ok so I'm with you on this"

"Let's see if we get any bribes"

"Although my back up is always to go with the longest name"

"Right"

"So go Pluvia and the Saxean Isles!"

"May the Isles never get less Saxean!"

┤ THE ROSTER ├

44- HAMADA Roshi
Height: 181cm - Weight: 90kg – Age: 26 years old - Team: Concord Dusk AFC

After signing a three year, ¥15 million contract with Concord Dusk AFC, Hamada Roshi has essentially made it as a goalkeeper in Gyatso-kai. Coming onto Concord Dusk to backup the aging Kjotvi Bar’kad is no easy assignment, however, with most analysts seeing Bar’kad retiring sooner rather than later, Hamada may see himself starting for the Black & Gold.

A player who developed an odd style in the Fire Nation, Hamada is known for stepping way in front of the net and attempting to use his physique to stop an offensive player before getting to the ball. Many attribute this odd quirk to Hamada and his twin brother Yoshi having grown up playing ice hockey; whereas Roshi would go on to find his love in football, his brother Yoshi continues to attract scouts on the ice at the University of Kyoko in the Fire Nation. Equally adept at his position as a younger Kio’los, the 2021.3 Campaign has already seen Hamada start in net twice for the Bisons; during the first victory over Ko-oren and the nil-all draw against Mertagne.

Starting World Cup XC as the backup to Armok Hikari, Hamada earned the starting position after a pair of losses which saw Armok pulled. In his first start of the campaign, Armok saved 27 shots on net and allowed zero goals against Omerica, and would go on to a 4-1-1 record for the World Cup before a stomach bug would take him out for the remainder of the tournament. After Armok retook the starting position, though, the Bisons fell flat, losing three straight matches to end the tournament on a sour note.

This resulted in Hamada gaining the starting position in both the Cup of Harmony as well as the last AOCAF. During those tournaments, Hamada managed a 5-4 record, and with only one game where he allowed more than 2 goals into the net. This performance solidified him as the new starter for the Bisons, which saw Hamada make quite the showing for an Avatarian keeper – 12-2-6 in World Cup XCI.

22- ARMOK Hikari
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 31 years old - Team: Southern AFC

Entering into his ninth season with Southern AFC, Armok Hikari has continued to improve and grow when compared to his days back at the University of Omashu. Having taken over for Zhao Baoli since his retirement following World Cup 85, Armok has proven time and time again that he is set to be another storied goalkeeper for the Bisons.

Unlike his predecessor who favored sniping mid-range clears, Armok tends to favor the long-range kicks out to midpitch so as to clear as much action from the back end as possible. Also, Armok is a much more traditional goalkeeper when compared to the very ball-heavy play styles of the former starter for the Bisons; he firmly believes that his primary goal is to stop balls from getting to the net, and by clearing out the attacking zone quickly, it gives him a chance to set the team up more defensively as he does tend to hand over possession often, but that allows him to focus on the main job of stopping balls and not worrying about diving out of the box and going for more ‘flashy’ plays.

After a depressing World Cup performance, Armok was taken from the Starting XI and placed on backup. Winning just one match in World Cup XC, Armok would lose seven games and fall out of favor with then-Interim Head Coach Wong Haru. During the last Cup of Harmony and AO Cup, Armok would not see a single start, with many calling into question his continued selection to the national team. Expect to see the former starter seeing very little to any action this World Cup.

A steep fall from grace often leaves a bitter taste in the mouth…

31- LEE Findao
Height: 191cm - Weight: 94kg – Age: 24 years old - Team: Academy of South Kibago

An incredibly young and underdeveloped player – at least in terms of multi-verse play – Lee Findao took the Avatarian Football world by surprise when it was announced after The Combine that they would be taking the Reserve Position on the National Team ahead of suspected replacement Pao Lishin. Such a surprise that on the day the rosters were set to be announced, Lee had already packed themselves up and was boarding a transport out of the National Sports Complex.

Not the most confident way to start your journey to the AOCAF Cup…

With a collegiate style typical of players his size – wide stance, quick to try and muscle defenders out of the ball, and making saves from deep out of the net – we can only hope that has time goes on, Lee will continue to mature under the tutelage of Nishimura on the National Team. Though, with the fall of Armok Hikari from the graces of the Starting XI, we saw Lee gain his first appearance on the National Team, subbing in for Hamada after he began to experience stomach cramps in the eventual 4-2 loss against Valanora. Facing twelve shots, Lee only allowed one in, which unfortunately was the game-winning goal that sent the team home early.

Nothing he could have done…

Travelling With the Team

Name Age Team Nation .
PAO Lishin 25 Mando FC Earth
TSUTSAMA Yen 22 Keldabe FC Fire
TSUNADE Ki’sae 21 Kyoshi State University Mandalorian

As had been done under Vhett, Head Coach Tay’haai has instituted a Travelling Corps so as to bring young and upcoming players along with the Bisons to show them what Multiverse Play is all about. Pao Lishin, still a bit bitter about being passed over last World Cup and now for AOCAF, is a surprise to see return on the travelling corps. Last campaign, it was reported that Pao spent most of the practice days away from the other members of the goalkeeping unit; in the weeks leading up to the AOCAF Cup, it is being reported he is talking more with Goalkeeping Coach Nishimura Kenshin.

Tsutsama Yen, is a relative newcomer to the multiverse; having a somewhat average season at UA, he came to the National Team tryouts before World Cup 87 and put up some impressive physical numbers through the Combine, and thus found his way onto the Corps. Showing great promise as a younger player, he signed on with Gaoling Union after graduation and has already begun to cement himself as a strong back-up to franchise keeper Mit Wasan’i

With the promotion of Lee Findao to Reserve, the third spot on the Corps was awarded to Tsunade Kise, a young Mandalorian keeper out of Kyoshi State. At 21-years-of-age, he is set to graduate following this campaign cycle, though it is uncertain where he will wind up. Tsunade has shown a similar style to the former Bison Aki Kio’los, and of the three members of the Travelling Corps, he is the most likely to see promotion.

Left Defenders:
16- TERCAR Shuajo
[i]Height: 180cm - Weight: 84kg – Age: 30 years old - Team: Mando FC

Tercar Shuajo, who signed a four-year contract with Mando FC after graduating from Northern University, has added 8kg to his frame in muscle, yet still retains his speed. A very quick and agile defender, Tercar uses his feet and agility to outmaneuver most other players instead of relying on sheer mass to take away a ball, a tactic he learned from pairing with Itawaku during exhibition games prior to World Cup 86.

Now into his fourth campaign as starting defender, Tercar is looking to further cement himself into the team. With both Hashimoto Isamiru and Somchai Kikwan both growing older with every passing game, soon it may be time for Tercar to take his speed and agility to the centre of the pitch. Tercar bares the distinction of being one of only two players to score a goal during the last AOCAF – the lone goal against Vilita & Turori on the opening day of the tournament.

Unfortunately for Tercar, an upper body strain took him out of World Cup XC for four games, as well as the four games of AOCAF 66. He did not play in World Cup XCI and XCII, and given the average performance of the defence during, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Haru call him up at AOCAF.

Formerly the backup to the Beast of the North, Pam Kai spent five tournaments in the shadow of Itawaku, hoping to one day earn the starting spot from him or to replace him. However, at the tryout camp, it was Tercar Shuajo who shined, and received the Starting Spike from Tay’haai. Following another lackluster season in Senlin, Pam has shown himself to be a perennial backup defender; though this time, he has been kicked out of the limelight by a former classmate and teammate of his from Northern University… One has to wonder how that will play out during the tournament.

A young Southern Watertribesman who signed a professional contract with Island FC at just 20-years-of-age, Khánh Ka’lomi is already making waves in the Avatarian sports community. With an impressive size for such a young player, many see him as the next Itawaku, and some have already started calling him “The Beast of the South”. In his first season at Island FC, Ka’lomi put up impressive numbers for a defencemen; ending his season with the highest involvement in goals by a defender with 2 goal and 7 assists to go with 6 clean sheets.

In World Cup XC, an upper body strain for Tercar Shuajo would see Ka’lomi moved into the Starting XI, and given the performance of Tercar following that strain – as well as him sitting out the last two tournaments – it seems likely that Wong has decided to trust the youthful Watertribesman to fill in and to succeed Pam Kai on the left side.

Not sure how Pam is going to take this one…

5- HASHIMOTO Isamiru

One of the most highly-rated player for the Bison defence, Hashimoto Isamiru, or “Hashi” as he is loving called by fans, has shown himself to be a very valuable asset to the team. A strong defensive player who often falls in to a full-back position, Hashimoto has made great strides in improving his passing and marking skills since he was traded to Ba Sing Se UNITED from Keldabe FC after a very disappointing season which saw Kelabe not advance to the playoffs for the first time in five years.

However, as time as worn on, so too as age on Hashimoto. Having turned 37 during the Cup of Harmony, many have been calling for Hashi to step down gracefully and retire. However, in previous interviews over the 2021.1 Campaign, Hashimoto has already said he would not even entertain retirement until he had earned his century-and-half cap for the National Team.

A large and physically imposing player, Uthan A’den does not play a very physical game like Auranaq or Hashimoto, but instead proves himself to be one of the fastest players on the team; one who uses that speed to outpace and overtake many of his opponents. Less prove to tackle and trip, and more likely to simply run up from behind and steal the ball mid-dribble, expect to see Uthan engaging opponents closer to the net than you will be comfortable with from previous Bisons campaigns.

Having reached his century mark during the 6-2 win at home against The Juniper Union during World Cup 88 – and also scoring his first multiverse hat trick – Uthan became one of the youngest players to reach the milemark, following in the footsteps of Akiyama Qiangyu and Bralor Kotyc’e to reach a century before 25.

And given his presence, Uthan is expected to play for a very long time.

Though not as fast as Uthan, Ganham Ri’om is a full-back more focused on the offence, who uses his skill with the ball to often drive the offence from the backfield. Though Ganham can have some minor difficulties when tasked with defence (given that he played his entire career at Hatsu State as a offensive midfielder before switching to defence when drafted), he is a very dedicated player and works hard to improve where he knows there are weakness.

Right Defenders:

3- SOMCHAI Kikwan
Height: 187cm - Weight: 83kg – Age: 36 years old - Team: Itakawai City

While certainly not the oldest player in the defence, Somchai Kikwan does serve as the counterpoint to Uthan’s youthful excitement. Having graduated from Kyoshi State, Somchai is very familiar to the style of play Uthan is used to, and the two of them communicate very well on the side of the field. Very adept at playing the middle of the field, when pushed to the right side, Somchai is quick to adapt and has the endurance and stamina to keep up with the demands.

Having made his multiverse debut in World Cup 85, Somchai has continued to play through a nagging lower body injury up until World Cup 90; utlising traditional medicine as well as playing an on-off schedule which allowed Huang Aodhan and Taoru Adeen to garnish some of the limelight, Somchai has made a full return to the line-up, and will likely break the century-and-a-half mark during this campaign.

Signed onto a Taap-A team right out of college, Huang was quick to mature and found his way onto the Makapu ERUPT three season ago. A quick study, he adapted well to his new team and soon made it to their starting eleven. With the retirement of a couple of the Bisons’ core defenders, the Travelling Corps has produced another potential feature player in the form of Tarou Adeen. A product of both the Royal Fire Developmental Programs as well as serving under the tutelage of Fujimoto Zhong at Omashu State, Adeen is sure to see his number called in future tournaments, especially as players like Somchai continue to add years to their career. Though, unlike Somchai, Adeen brings more size to the right; standing at just under 190cm and weighs a little under 90kg. Combine that size with his speed and vision on the pitch, and you have a defender who can knock an opponent off course and redirect a ball to a forward without even lifting his head from his target. As with others in the lower levels of the team, expect to see Adeen as the tournament progresses.

RD YAMADA Goro 22 Ba Sing Se UNITED Fire
CD ZHOU Hiroto 22 Concord Dusk AFC Earth

The Travelling Corps for Defense is all small trio of defenders who are all potential future Bisons.

Kato Zhao Ling, who graduated from Enceri University and signed an entry-level two-year contract with FC She Pass, is coming off his first RPFL All-Star selection and a third-place finish in the 2021.1 Season, having been traded to Enceri FC before the end of his contract and signing on an entry-level single-year bridge pending the conclusion of the 2021.3 Season. Yamato Goro surprised the football world upon graduation, having signed with Ba Sing Se over Itakawai; Yamato is certainly being watched to replace either of the aging defencemen in Hashimoto and Somchai. Zhou Hiroto, who helped Kibago University win their third consecutive Earthen Shield tournament in five years, also is vying for an eventual spot on the national roster after signing an entry-level two-year contract with Concord Dusk AFC.

Defensive Midfielders:

7- TAKAHASHI Hikaru
Height: 178cm - Weight: 76kg – Age: 40 years old - Team: Northern AFC

A strong defensive midfielder. Takahashi Hikaru’s strength lies in his kicks; easily able to send a ball soaring across the pitch with surprising accuracy, Takahashi is known for feeding the ball to the strikers and catching many opposing defences off-guard. He often has great vision, and he is easily able to read the play and can adapt accordingly.

Now, Takahashi has to step into a new role, as the oldest player on the team. With the retirement of so many of his fellow over-30 players, some feel the pressure is on Takahashi to produce more in this upcoming World Cup Campaign… or hang up the Number Seven jersey for the last time. Though, given his performance during World Cup XC and XCI, it is likely Takahashi will continue to play. After all, he is the first player in the Modern Era to achieve a double-century in caps; specifically as he took the pitch against Zeta Reka & Hufeltaldom, and scoring the only goal of the match for the Bisons.

6- MA Haijiang

Former Head Coach Tay’haai made the unusual selection of having both of his defensive midfielders come from the same team, for reasons most can ascertain…. And it’s a decision that Interim Head Coach Wong Haru A proven veteran on the pitch, Ma Haijiang complements Takahashi’s strong kicks and accuracy with the speed to overcome most opponents; if he can not strike a ball deep, Takahashi will often send a volley up to Ma who will then run it into the offensive zone before lasering the ball to an open forward. Expect to see either Ma or Takahashi in the assist column for plenty of goals.

Though, now with both players into their 30s, and many calling for younger blood to take the reigns, one has to wonder how much longer the ‘Northern Duo’ will continue to play together… or worse, who will be the first to retire… Yet, earning his double-century just five games after Takahashi’s – a 2-nil game against Bears Armed – seems to have energized the older midfielder.

17- YOSHIDA Arata
Height: 177cm - Weight: 80kg – Age: 33 years old - Team: Royal Flames

Yoshida Arata is a dedicated player who has worked incredibly hard to make his way to the national team; having spent several months training with one of the greatest Avatarian midfielders to ever play the game, Bralor Kotyc’e. Time spent with Bralor has proven to greatly improve his game, seeing Yoshida climb up the ranks during the Trials for the national team. Though he has predominantly been a backup for his entire career thirteen tournaments, Arata has managed to amass ninety-two caps, and given the length of the Cup of Harmony, expected to reach the century during it. The inly question will be whether he reaches that mark as a substitution or as a starter.

Though, Yoshida is not a player you will often notice. He is not one for showboating, and very rarely makes a goal or garnishes an assist. Instead, he focuses his time on the pitch by setting up the offense for a great pass, a decisive tackle that often swings the game’s momentum, or just being able to intercept the ball at the most opportune time. One of the best midfielders in the Southern Conference of the RPFL, Yoshida is sure to see time on the pitch by relieving Takahashi or Ma in the later games of the competition.

An extremely technical midfielder, Hisakawa Si Woo is not one to shy away from trying for goals. More adept at reading the play and setting up his forwards, Hisakawa is a bit more impatient than one would like, and he posseses the speed and agility to run through a good defence and find the back of the net on occasion. He is also the only player on the Bisons who is currently unsigned; his contract with the Taap-A team Omashu Athletic ended after AOCAF LX, and with nothing really to showcase his worth, Omashu Athletic chose to not sign Hisakawa; a fact that has certainly hurt his morale going into the last World Cup. However, an impressive showing, including four goals at WC 85, saw Hisakawa sign a two-year contract with the Senlin Timbers just days after the completion of the group stage.

With a very offensive-minded footballing style, Yu Shichiro works as the last link between the midfield and the offence. Much like Hisakawa, Yu has been known to even advance from the midfield to score quite a few key goals in pivotal games, including the 2019.2 Ve’vut Cup winning goal against Concord Dusk AFC. He has a powerful long shot and is exceptional at heading, both of which are aided by his height. However, as skilled as he is in offense, Yu still prefers to pass the ball up to forwards for an assist in a goal as opposed to being the star player.

Though having graduated from Heibai University right after AOCAF 59, Guanyu was making his way into the Starting Eleven before being displaced by Yu Shichiro in WC 62. However, tenancity as always been one of Guanyu’s strength, and thanks to the offensively-minded playstyle employed by Head Coach Wong, Guanyu has easily solidified himself into the Starting Eleven; often pushing out of the midfield and into an extra attacker at times.

Relatively young when compared to his teammates, Fei’kao Song chose to forgo his collegiate career, getting drafted by FC Mando the day before his twentieth birthday. Despite all the fanfare of his first season behind him, Song has not had a promising start to his sophomore season. Given his still-developing skills in midfield, his is seen as a comparatively weak player and often spends more time with the coaching staff than other more-seasoned players. Song, much like Hisakawa, is a technical player by nature whose greatest asset is not in his aim or power, but in the art of dribbling which he uses at every opportunity. While more prone to provide assists on plays as opposed to goals, Song has proven himself through Trials to Tay’haai and earned a spot on the National Team, albeit a reserve position.

From the University of the Northern Tribes come home-grown Inoue Anernerk, who at just like his father, the famed Inoue Kuruk, completed back-to-back double-digit scoring seasons in his last two seasons of college; impressive for a man who is supposed to be on the defensive midfield. Penlu Saito, a young player from the developmental Chomain State Academy, hopes to see a professional contract within the year, and with such a great season in the ADFL, you can be sure he will at least entertain some good offers. Out of the University of Kibago, Shao Mi’ka is a relatively quiet player who has had offers from both Gaoling Union and Senlin Timbers. 9 - Dag’da SKIRATA

Height: 185cm - Weight: 85kg – Age: 31 years old - Team: Ba Sing Se UNITED

From the fabled and illustrious Skirata family, Dag’da Skirata continues to show why the Skirata’s are the most famous Avatarian family in sports; from his grandfather Kad coaching the Men’s National Ice Hockey Team to his father A’den’s 59 goals in 190 caps for the Bisons, Dag’da has some massive shoes to fill. Though his youthful energy often times shows itself in classic mistakes, Skirata is able to power his way through many the defender and be it by foot or by head, he finds the net more often than not. Earning his century in the abysmal Cup of Harmony 79, Skirata hopes to redeem himself in the next campaign set to begin in Atlantian Oceania. In-between the 2021.1 and 2021.2 Campaigns, Skirata has shocked much of the Avatarian Sports world, forgoing the expected signing with his hometown FC Itakawai and signing with their interleague rival Ba Sing Se United for an undisclosed amount; however, the six-year contract is likely one of the most expensive to be signed in recent memory.

Skirata managed to score his one-hundreth goal in World Cup 90; the go-ahead and eventual winning goal against Damukuni on matchday ten. Four more goals throughout the tournament showed that he has put the dryspell of World Cup 89 behind him, and with a pair during the 82nd Cup of Harmony and a pair during the last AOCAF, many are of the mind that Skirata has returned to his stride.

Head Coach: WONG Haru
Height: 185cm – Weight: 88kg – Age 53 years old – Team: FC Itakawai, Assistant General Manager

Once a star defender for the Bisons, following his retirement from national and multiverse play, Wong Haru made a name for himself with a brief stint in coaching professionally; first as a Defensive Coach for Solus FC for two years and then FC She Pass for another four. However, when Wakahisa Hikaru – whose infamous knee injury in the championship game for the Republic Chalice brought the nation to tears and ended his professional career – called Wong, as the General Manager for FC Itakawai, to hand him the reigns of the infamous team right when they shifted ownership, it was a call Wong could not pass up. Being the head coach of one of the RPFL’s best teams for nearly 8 years truly honed his knowledge of the game as well as his abilities to analyze and coach players to greatness, all before he was promoted within to the role of Assistant General Manager under Wakahisa. After being both a player, a captain, positional coach, head coach, and assistant general manager, the only two roles left for Wong were to be either the National Team Head Coach, and the President of the ALAF. Thanks to Tay’haai - who brought Wong on as the assistant coach for the team back at the start of his tenure - one goal was finally achieved.

Height: 190cm – Weight: 82kg – Age 38 years old
Following the retirement of Wen Wuchin after the 85th World Cup, the much-younger Doctor Fong Jintao replaced the “Ol’Doc” as he was so lovingly referred to as by the team. Having served through the Grand Army of the Republic, Doctor Fong is a veritable successor to the Ol’Doc’s history as the last member of the Old Guard – all staff appointed by former-Head Coach and now Director Boba Vhett. When not travelling with the team, Fong carries the rank of Captain, First Class and serves in the 501st Legion in the First Territorial Army, stationed in Republic City; specifically, he is a resident Surgeon within the Third Avatarian Guard, and is seen as a competitor for the soon-to-be-vacated position of Head Assistant Surgeon in the Capital Medical Facility, thanks to another former member of the Old Guard retiring from that post.

A clone officer within the Grand Army of the Republic, RC-4868 was appointed Chief of Security for the National Team in 2011.1. Each time the team travels abroad --- so long as he is not engaged in a mission --- RC-4868 is pulled from service and placed into the spotlight of security. He is battle-hardened, having been raised since birth for war and combat, and as such often views these assignments with true boredom. The seven men he brings with him on assignment share the same sentiments of the ‘mission’, however, their ‘unwaivering loyalty’ to the Republic prevents any negative speak during the assignment. Each is a member of the Avatarian Guard, whose sole responsibility is to defend the Avatar at both home and abroad; this protection then extends to all sports teams travelling beyond the borders of the Five Nations.

Once the longest serving Head Coach in Avatarian History – with a record spanning 261 games, ten World Cups and multiple other multiverse competitions – it was only right for Vhett to step into the role of President of the Avatarian Leagues of Association Football. Having brought a team from nothing to the quarterfinals in 8 World Cups is not something to look away from, and although his career was tarnished slightly by the final performances of the Bisons – going 5-7-1 in his last World Cup – Vhett is confident that soon glory will be returned to the Avatarian Republics, although initial performances in all seven tournaments to date have been far from promising.

┤ GROUP STAGE SCHEDULE ├

.:: COMING SOON ::.

┤ PRIMARY FORMATION ├

Image

While under Tay’haai and Vhett, the Bisons utilized the modern standard of the 4-4-2 Formation. Giving the Bisons a strong midfield presence while pairing two quick strikers – in the last cup being Skirata and Song Kaoru – the 4-4-2 allowed many of the Bison games to keep low goals for an opponent while giving them a chance to rack up high goals.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t always the case…

Under Head Coach Wong Haru, the Bisons are changing up their usual style and taking out the second forward and replacing them with a stronger midfield presence in what is known as a 4-5-1 Formation. Usually taken by teams wanting to secure a lead, the 4-5-1 is often seen as a more ‘defensive minded’ formation. The extra midfielder – in this case Hisakawa Si Woo – often will float between a defensive position and a support position for the remaining forward. In choosing the speed of Skirata over the accuracy of Song Kaoru, Interim Coach Wong is giving up offensive capability to shore up defence. Especially considering that Song was the lead goal-scorer in the last World Cup, the focus on a slightly-younger Skirata may be a look to the future and keep Song on standby should the offence need a boost.

Expect to see the two men swapped out from game to game until the team solidifies. Of course, in a tournament with just four games, the team may not be able to completely figure out its new strategy in quick-enough fashion.

While initially slow to show promise, the new strategy of the Bisons proved itself well in the last campaign; during both the AOCAF and the Cup of Harmony, the Bisons advanced out of the Group Stage in both tournaments for the first time since The Silence. In World Cup XCI, the Bisons missed the Proper Tournament by a single spot – losing on head-to-head with Srednjaci and placing fourth in the group. While the team split the last AOCAF – 1-1-1 and placing third in their group for AOCAF 67 – Wong is hoping that it was simply a matter of an incredibly short tournament and that the team can continue to build on the success from the last World Cup and make it out of the group stage for the first time in 32 ji.

Info:
Following the injury to Nathan Ellis, it seemed like Team Hapilopper hit one hell of a speed bump, failing to qualify for World Cup 92 after successfully qualifying for the 90th and 91st World Cups. Either way, the team is hoping that's all it is, a speed bump. Ellis has recovered from his injury and has returned to his job as assistant coach for the squad, and serves as the players' voice and inspiration. It is that inspiration that helped Team Hapilopper qualify for those two World Cups and it is that inspiration that the team, as well as the nation, hope will be used to return to form and beyond.

THE PLAYERS:
STARTING PLAYERS:
Image
#1 - BILLY SOLOMON | Goalkeeper | Age: 26 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @billy_solomon | Club: Austin City (Xanneria)
Style of Play: Sweeper Keeper | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Relaxed
Billy Solomon, the starting keeper for Team Hapilopper, has transformed a bit since being dealt to Xannerian club side Austin City. In the past, he was a nervous, almost neurotic ball player, someone who was almost insufferable in the clubhouse for being about as nervous as could be. But these days, Billy has relaxed himself through a variety of methods. He can be seen almost meditating in his locker, listening to calming, relaxing music as he prepares to go out and play some ball, and he plays ball well. Before being dealt to Austin City, Billy registered an average of one goal allowed per 120 minutes of play. That's good.

Image
#2 - LEWIS PRYOR | Defenseman/Left Wingback | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @pryor60 | Club: The Soldiers of Hap City
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Professional
The popular way to describe Soldiers defenseman Lewis Pryor is "a piece of shit with a heart of gold." Almost sounds like some certain ballplayers we're familiar with, but Lewis Pryor does not start riots, he's never been seen in the midst of a barfight, and he certainly doesn't have a history of clotheslining Vdaran strikers. But what Lewis does is play physical, does not hesitate to get himself into card trouble, and when he does, he gives back ot the community. Lewis's "Cards For Good" program has raised over $120,000 for the Kensington Children's Hospital in Hapilopper City since he started it a few years ago. It is a program where he donates $5,000 for each yellow card and $10,000 for each red card to a local children's hospital, in an effort to give back to the community.

Image
#3 - ACE BOONE | Defenseman/Right Wingback | Age: 27 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: Colonial Sile (Vilita)
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Antisocial
There are stories across the Hapiloppian Football Association about Ace Boone's legendary trash talk. Many of them are true and have been confirmed by Ace in interviews - stories such as the time Ace jogged past United Hampton Cities striker Todd Russell, at the time on a goal-scoring streak, that he "should just sit yourself today, because you can't beat this!" And that goal-scoring streak ended that day. Or perhaps the time he angered then-player coach Nathan Ellis by telling him that he was a better defenseman than Nathan could ever hope to be. Nathan wanted to punch his lights out, but wound up respecting him for showing that kind of courage to look him in the eye and actually tell him that. Since the last World Cup, Ace has started taking online requests to roast fans in video messages on the "Hey There!" service. At $15 a pop, Ace has made a very substantial amount of money in doing this.

Image
#4 - JEROLD DICKMAN | Defenseman/Defensive Sweeper | Age: 23 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @JerryDMan | Club: KT Itzalovalle (Audioslavia)
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Oh Hell Yes | Attitude: Asshole
There's something about Jerold Dickman that Hapiloppian fans love, and something about Jerold Dickman that Hapiloppian fans simply can't stand. One one hand, he "brings the heat" on the defensive side of the pitch, playing a delightfully physical style of football that can stop goals and stop an offensive stand dead in its tracks. On the other hand, though, there's still that old Jerold Dickman still in him, the same Jerold Dickman that set off a bench-clearing brawl in the Sporting World Cup. Without Nathan Ellis to keep him on the straight and narrow, there have been rumors of Dickman acting up, such as an incident at a bar outside of Hapilopper City, where Dickman reportedly beat the crap out of a wisecracking fan who made jokes about his name. Team Hapilopper staff is concerned about this sort of behavior.

Image
#5 - ASHLEY STANFORD | Defenseman | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @stanford-the-kicker | Club: Border City United
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Oh Hell Yeah | Attitude: Ruthless
There's a funny thing about Ashley Stanford. And that funny thing is, she'll stick by you if you stick by you. But if you wrong her in any way - such as an ex-boyfriend who cheated on her, or the vending machine at the Team Hapilopper headquarters that ate her dollar, she'll bite back with the fury of a thousand suns. The boyfriend, who dated Ashley in high school, refuses to talk about it to this day and even drops into intense fits of crying even thinking about it. The other girl's whereabouts are unknown. Dom Probst read Ashley the riot act after finding the vending machine in pieces in the break room, candy and snacks everywhere and inexplicably, a large part of the vending machine on fire. And that's the attitude Ashley takes into a football match. If she feels like someone screws with her, they're going to wish they hadn't gotten out of bed that morning.

Image
#6 - THE MAVERICK KING | Midfielder | Age: 25 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @MavKing | Club: United Hampton Cities
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Professional
The self-prescribed leader of the Team Hapilopper midfield, The Maverick King takes his assignment as a defensive midfielder very seriously. He'll go out there, troll the back part of the midfield with a crusader's zeal and prepare to stop any offensive effort that gets past the defensemen. And without thinking about it, or making a big show of it like Ashley Stanford or Jerold Dickman, The Maverick King will drop the hammer on an opposing player without thinking about it. But that's not what Hapiloppian fans are talking about. They're talking about how pretentious he has become. Like a famous university with an extremely high sense of self-importance, The Maverick King has insisted on not being known as "Maverick King" - which, by the way, is his real name, but rather "The Maverick King," even going so far as to tell off a reporter who didn't use the word "The" in the name. The Maverick King explained he does this to rub it in the face of bullies he had to deal with as a kid, who laughed at his name and called him a "fat chump" instead.

Image
#7 - JAMES HUDDLESTON | Midfielder | Age: 26 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: FC Buckridge
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Determined
James Huddleston, known more as "Jimmy" these days, especially among his teammates, has developed himself into a prominent midfielder within the Hapiloppian system and with FC Buckridge. He can serve as a good dual threat either on offense or defense. But he's strangely known, more than anything else, for what he listens to in his spare time. You see, Huddleston is the son of Greg Huddleston, the long-time chief announcer for the HASCAR Radio Network, and Jimmy loves listening to old radio broadcasts of HASCAR and NSSCRA races. To each their own, I guess. He's not all that interesting of a character. He doesn't demolish vending machines nor does he break into elaborate dance moves. All he does is his job and listens to his old radio racing broadcasts.

Image
#8 - PARKER MATHIS | Midfielder | Age: 22 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @HAPFirstDude | Club: Lakiska SC (Banija)
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Superstar
It's time to dance. Parker Mathis loves to dance. After each goal he scores, Parker, the son of Hapiloppian President William Mathis, breaks into an elaborate dance move and a theme song that, for some reason, has a really, really funky beat to it. That dance, known as the "Funky Parker," and theme song became viral among Hapiloppian fans, and a number of schools saw fit to ban the dance after kids started spontaneously doing the dance at lunch. A video, which went viral on twii.tur, saw kids jumping onto cafeteria tables and doing the "Funky Parker." And last year, Parker did the "Funky Parker" eleven times during the World Cup 91 season, between qualifiers and the World Cup proper. It's almost as if it has totally distracted from the fact that Parker is, indeed, the son of the President of Hapilopper.

Image
#9 - HERB NORTHROP | Midfielder | Age: 25 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @herb_northrop | Club: FC Buckridge
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Normal | Attitude: Professional
Herbert Northrop, one of many, many players from Hapilopper's infamous Sporting World Cup teams, is one of the most spiritual members of a Hapiloppian football team that has existed. A graduate of Southland Christian Academy in Buckridge, Northrop makes sure to say a prayer before he hits the pitch, and when he scores a goal, he drops to one knee and says a prayer to the Good Lord Above for allowing him to score a goal. You won't see Northrop pulling off cheap shots like Jerold Dickman, and you won't see him attempting to end someone's career (or life) like Ashley Stanford. That's not what he does. Instead, he tries to play as professionally as he can, as cleanly as he can, as effectively as he can. And his style is quite effective, leading the Hapiloppian League in midfielder goals last year with 14.

Image
#10 - PETER ROBSON | Forward | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @PeteRobson | Club: FC Surrey
Style of Play: Creative | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Professional
In this corner, we have discussed how Peter Robson has his time for having fun and his time for going to work. We have also discussed how Hapiloppian coaches appreciate that he can separate work from fun and not let the politics bother him. But have we mentioned before his involvement with "The Asskickers," the famous Surrey party group? And did we mention how Peter and the now-retired Fernie Fairburn interrupted a local news show with their own brand of foolishness, which involved silly string, whipped cream and a variety of food items being flung through the air and all over a local Conservative member of the Hapiloppian Parliament. It was a stunt that turned this serious news program into a hilarious romp, and hilariously had the Conservative member running after Peter, figuring this was a Liberal stunt. It was an incident that, if we really have to say it, became viral on social media. A lawsuit is pending.

Image
#11 - TOBY BRYSON | Forward | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @tobyb90 | Club: The Soldiers of Hapilopper City
Style of Play: Straightforward | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Relaxed
There have been critics about Toby Bryson's style of play, and we feel like the reasons for those critiques are pretty straightforward. There is a school of thought among Hapiloppian football observers that believe that a Hapiloppian goal scorer should be the most exciting player on the team, a disciple of the Ernie Stevenson school of thought. A Hapiloppian goal scorer, critics reason, should be capable of pulling off acrobatic moves, becoming a human highlight reel full of unbelievable plays, like Ernie Stevenson's infamous "hop-skip-holy shit" that made him a household name in Nephara. Toby Bryson, on the other hand, is comparatively bland. He goes in, doesn't worry about style points, and scores goals. And coaches love that. They love his complete lack of tolerance for bullshit. Toby reasons, after all, that he's Toby Bryson, not Ernie Stevenson, and he's quite good at scoring goals.

Image
#12 - MORRIS JAMISON | Forward | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @jamisonmo | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Scrappy | Speed: Fast | Physicality: High | Attitude: Antisocial
Now, imagine for a second, you feel like you're one of the best strikers in all of Hapiloppian football. You're famous for being out until five in the morning trying to perfect your goalscoring, your routes, your tricks. You know that, if you just had a shot at starting, you could go out there and prove to your coaches that you could, in fact, hang three on the best of them, whether they're one of the top-flight nations such as Pemecutan or the Holy Empire, or one of the nations that nobody has really heard of. But Pete Robson and Toby Bryson are in your way. It's not as if you can tell Thom Perkins to go to a 3-4-3, because Thom hates that formation. So imagine how frustrated Morris "The Benchwarmer" Jamison has to be right now. He just wants a chance and he doesn't have it yet.

Image
#13 - ELIAS MOON | Forward | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @eliasmoon | Club: Marine Coast United (Vilita)
Style of Play: Creative | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Creative
On the other hand, Elias Moon is just happy to be here. Since barely making the SWC squad a few years ago, Moon has made a living on trying out as many trick shots on goal as he can. He wants to be just like Ernie Stevenson, although without the other parts of Ernie Stevenson. In other words, he's a trick-shot artist and that's it. His videos of trick shots have gone viral on social media, like, most recently, a goal scored from the back of a moving minivan circling around the pitch of Capital Stadium, a stunt that impressed both Hapiloppian fans and angered the Hapilopper National Baseball Team after it led to some damage to the artificial turf at the stadium. His skill has led him to be signed by Rammsissil, a Vilitan squad.

Image
#20 - KERRY SPALDING | Midfielder | Age: 25 | Mental Age: 6 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @k-spalding | Club: Raceway FC
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Rough | Attitude: Moron
We'll just come clean right now - this is one of our favorite roster bios to write. Because Kerry Spalding, offensive midfielder for Raceway Football Club, has given us so many things to work with. For instance, Kerry was recently banned from the Buckridge Oaks Country Club after going joyriding in the club's golf carts. According to news reports, those joyrides left one golf cart in a nearby stream, while another golf cart sent a tree crashing down onto a tree on the sixth hole fairway, and another golf cart was reportedly trashed after Kerry tested to see if fireworks could give it a little extra power. It didn't. We're still advocating for that TJUN-ian idiot Derrick Carlisle to put Kerry on MemeWatch, because he might have been built for it.

Image
#21 - LEYTON HUMPHREY | Midfielder | Age: 19 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @LeyHumph | Club: Hap City Highway Patrol
Style of Play: Defensive | Speed: Medium-Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Redneck
What happens when a national team gets sick and tired of a diva who rides the bench? And then what happens when they spot some tobacco-chewing hillbilly physically removing a player from the ball, then leaving the local media in stitches with his hilarious post-match press conferences, comparing opposing players to hogs he had wrangled back at his farm? What happens is Nathan Ellis requests a meeting with that hillbilly, and after getting all the tobacco juice out of that vase in the corner of his office, he calls Piers Adcock to tell him to clean out his locker and to go take a long walk off a short plank. As much of a prick as Piers Adcock is, Leyton Humphrey is not, and while he needs to control his tobacco spit, Team Hapilopper would rather take that than an ultra-self-important diva like Piers Adcock. Supposedly a "Leyton-to-English" dictionary is being prepared by a teammate.

Image
#22 - RUFUS HARTLEY | Midfielder | Age: 24 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @r-p-hartley | Club: DD Porto Nowi (Zeta Reka)
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: He's named Rufus, what do you expect | Attitude: Brawler
Just so you know, Rufus Parnell Hartley is a nice guy. He'll be the first donating at church. He tips well at restaurants. He helps at the soup kitchen if needed. But on the field, he's one of those guys that will get into a brawl on the pitch if someone wrongs him. He'll drop a player with the kind of tackle that makes Nathan Ellis wish he had pulled that on Alexis Fotellis. But he'll also score goals if needed, and is most likely quite a threat for DD Porto Nowi out in Zeta Reka. He'll be a dominating presence on the offensive side of the pitch, making other players bend to his will, by force if need be. Away from the pitch, Hartley's family owns dozens of Jane's Diner franchises all around the Pinkerton area, to the point where some have called Hartley "the heir to the all-night diner". And trust us, Rufus knows how to make some of the best hashbrowns and scrambled eggs in all the Dominion.

Image
#23 - ORAL ROUNDTREE | Midfielder | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @roundtree25 | Club: Mliona-Lpaka (Turori)
Style of Play: Hybrid | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Professional
So imagine going through life with the name "Oral." Poor Oral's parents had nine months and they came up with Oral. His classmates had a field day with that name. That was, until he started playing football. There's a story that goes around Michael Bell High in North Hampton about how a student in a physical education class had spent the entire day getting on Oral's case about his name, with all of THOSE jokes. Once they got onto the soccer pitch, that student stopped making those jokes. Oral had nutmegged him and made him look like a complete idiot. And that's what he does. He doesn't let the jokes bother him, he just gets the job done and turns the jokers into the jokes like he's always done. These days, he plays for Mliona-Lpaka, a side in Turori, and there he hopes the Turorians won't put two and two together with his name.

Image
#24 - WILLIAM ALTENBERRY | Midfielder | Age: 25 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @William_Altenberry | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Offensive | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Friendly
You know what sucks about William Altenberry? It's the fact that he is a solid ballplayer. He is quite the threat in the midfield, and can turn a bad situation for any team he plays for into a good one. And a couple of years ago, he was a steady starter for the team. But Parker Mathis was better, at least in the eyes of the Team Hapilopper staff. And it was on the way to the bench for William Altenberry, whose biggest crime was he wasn't as attractive as the son of the Hapiloppian President. But he took it in stride and never said anything bad about it. Altenberry is a Pinkerton lifer, and has made mention that he will rather retire than take a transfer out of the city. He is heavily involved with his church and with new wife Katie, he intends to build a family there.

Image
#30 - FABIAN TRELOAR | Defenseman | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @treloar | Club: Pinkerton City SC
Style of Play: Zone Defense | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Holy shit, someone calm him down | Attitude: Friendly
The biggest complaint about Fabian Treloar, aside from that ugly black mullet, the fat and the strange odor about him, was the fact that he just didn't get physical enough out there on the pitch - especially not on the level that Hapiloppian fans and observers expect. That all changed one afternoon as Pinkerton took on Soldiers. Maybe Fabian figured Nathan Ellis was watching - which he was. Maybe he figured it was a nationally-televised showcase match - which it was. But in that game, Fabian showed everyone the physicality that everyone had been looking for, when he shoulder-blocked Soldiers striker - and Team Hapilopper teammate - Toby Bryson right in the face. It kept Soldiers from scoring, led to a fight, and got Nathan laughing for the next three days about how "you give any old schmuck a platform and they'll whack the shit out of you."

#31 - QUINTIN MONTAGUE | Defenseman | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @q-mont18 | Club: Garvinson Trojans
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Moderate | Attitude: Professional
Here's a reader. Quintin Montague is one of the biggest readers in Hapiloppian sport. He'll read anything. He'll read an offensive effort. He'll read the Garvinson Picayune. He'll read the lips of a fan in the 17th row. He'll read all the latest popular novels released in Hapilopper. He'll try to read a midfielder's mind as they're racing down the pitch. And he'll read the playbooks ad nauseam. That's a good attitude to have, and it's a good trait. But what Montague doesn't have is that killer instinct to be a regular starter, at least, not yet. He's been psyched out by opposing players a little too much for Team Hapilopper's liking. Members of the coaching staff are working on this, though. How they're working on it, well, watch this space. It might involve Nathan Ellis and some drill sergeant tactics, which sounds a little frightening on its face.

Image
#32 - RUSSELL BEAVIS | Defenseman | Age: 20 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: @russ-beavis | Club: Raceway FC
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Fast | Physicality: Heavy | Attitude: Professional
The surprise of the last Hapilopper Football Association season, Russell Beavis came out of nowhere to become one of Hapilopper's finest defensemen, and wound up taking, to the surprise of everyone, the final spot on the Team Hapilopper roster, a spot that opened up following Nathan Ellis's serious knee injury and subsequent retirement. Away from the pitch, Beavis, as people call him, is known as a conniseur of Hapiloppian craft beers, which shouldn't be surprising as his family is in the beer business. His father, Benjamin, and his uncles, Theodore and Larry, operate Beavis Brothers Brewing in Buckridge, a place known for their wonderful sour beers.

Image
#33 - LEVI BATESON | Defenseman | Age: 23 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @levi_bateson | Club: West Hampton Sports Club
Style of Play: Man-To-Man | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Sufficient | Attitude: Relaxed
Known more for his prowess on the saxophone than his prowess on the pitch, Levi Bateson nevertheless gets by with his play for the West Hampton Sports Club, which, before you get any ideas, is more than enough to stop an offensive effort if need be. Some suggest that Bateson's style of play is a throwback to the pre-World Cup days, when Hapiloppian footballers would play a more relaxed style of football. That's not a compliment. It's removed from the hair-on-fire, balls-to-the-wall style of play that has developed since Hapilopper started playing international football. Either way, he's still good at it, good enough to make the national team. As for his saxophone prowess, it's magnificent. Bateson plays for a band that tours across the Hampton Cities, and his saxophone solos are among the most popular parts of their concerts. Rumors exist of Levi, for some reason, trying to serenade Ashley Stanford, leading to one of his saxophones splattered against a locker.

Image
#60 - KENNY SHELLEY | Goalkeeper | Age: 24 | Kicks: Right | twii.tur: (none) | Club: Daedonggang 3.26 (Quebec and Shingoryeo)
Style of Play: Roving Keeper | Speed: Medium | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Excitable
Kenny Shelley will be the first to tell you that he's not expecting much in the way of playing time. He's a servicable keeper for Quebecois side Daedonggang 3.26, but good enough to get an assignment on the national team. Many suggest that his best days are well ahead of him, as with most of the Hapiloppian team. Could he be another Cooter Harris? It's hard to say. At least he has the persona down pat. Shelley drives a 1986 Major pick-up truck, a truck he's had since high school. He's carried everything from lumber to dirt to his girlfriend in the back of that truck, and it's likely he loves that truck more than life itself.

Image
#90 - DUKE STAMP | Goalkeeper | Age: 23 | Kicks: Left | twii.tur: @stamperHAP | Club: Cednia Beach AFC (Turori)
Style of Play: Traditional | Speed: Slow | Physicality: Low | Attitude: Moron
Best thing we can say is that this corner loves Duke Stamp. Not because he's a great ballplayer - and he may as well be. But he's one of a discouragingly-large number of Hapiloppian sports figures that likes to do stupid things on a regular basis. For instance, someone put it in his head that a theory of automotive buoyancy existed. So he tested it out on a brand new car. That didn't work. Then someone put it in his head that he could play better as a keeper if he tripled his caffeine intake and gained extra focus. Instead, he just went hyper, stuck his kit over his head and started yelling gibberish out there at goal. Thom Perkins nearly threw him off the team for this, but both Nathan Ellis and Myrone Rhule decided that hyper-Duke could work to their advantage, not to their disadvantage.

Manager
Image Dan Eastwood
Age: 66
This man from Eura seems to be following in the footsteps of Didrik Gjedrem, first taking the post of Raynor City United when he departed for the Marauders and now taking that post when he has stepped away from that position as well. At United he improved upon a solid foundation that Didrik had established and saw greater success as a result. The VSC is likely hoping that he will be able to replicate that with the national team, although there is a small fear that he may come to deviate from the traditional Vanorian formation. What is known is he can manage egos quite well and has a history of success wherever he goes, with being perhaps the greatest United manager in their long history. A trophy to start off his tenure will likely ease whatever troubles some fans might have at his appointment.

Assistant Manager
Kasper Volheim
Age: 47
After a successful trial run with the recently reinstated U21 national team, Volheim was appointed the assistant manager for the senior team as well with the number of youth players that are in the team and pool at large. Having shown to have the capabilities of managing them at Raynor City United's youth team and being a good go between as an assistant in the Di Bradini Cup, Volheim looks to keep up the success rate at the senior level, helping lead the team to end its trophy drought in the regional championship.

Keepers
GK: Isak Helland, age 34, Aleiusia Capital Image
GK: Günter Obermaier, age 29, Ulsa Image
GK: Daniel Wolter, age 29, Oakstone Image
Helland had a fairly successful cycle as the number one for the Marauders as they chased their way into the semifinals. However it is likely that he only has another cycle, maybe two at the highest of levels and despite his rather impressive reflexes, there is a fear that he will lose that excellence faster than yet. Yet he retains the number one spot for the regional championship and holds off a stern challenge from Obermaier and Wolter, both Euran based and having played quite well with their domestic clubs over the last few seasons. It is likely never going to be a point of strength for the Marauders, but perhaps with this allotment of keepers the position may no longer prove to be a weakness, at least for the time being.

Defenders
R/CB: Ralph Winter, age 29, Kitara AA Image
CB: Louise Løvoll, age 25, Mar Sara FC (F)
CB: Claudia Moench, age 31, Raynor City United (F)
CB: Samira Lindström, age 24, Raynor City United (F)
LRCB Pierre Wisniewski, age 29, Herzegovina City FC Image
L/CB Karoline Wellenbrink, age 29, Raynor City United (F)
Learning to defend is not something that usually comes natural to Vanorians, yet lately there has been quite the crop of talented youngsters who have had the inclination, mixed in well with veterans who have been taught to hone their craft to be a solid strength for the team rather than an alleged weakpoint. The heart of defends is Ralph Winter who early on won everything and has had to battle complacency and done so admirably, using his experience and talent to great effect. Claudia Moench and Louise Løvoll will play either side of Winter in the starting line up, being perhaps the two best defenders in the Premiership over the last season, though Moench's club teammates in Wellenbrink and Lindström both would have a say in the matter. Wisniewski is a versatile defender, comfortable across the entire backline and is best used when the team wants to employ a four at the back system to kill off games or against opponents who warrant a change in formation.

Midfielders
LW: Indra Söderström, age 29, Brinemouth Image (F)
L/RW: Kaaren Lothar, age 29, Baskita FC Image (F)
D/MC: Gideon Riemann, age 29, AS Bezieres Image
MC: Götz Konstantin, age 29, Bastion Image
MC: Selim Estrada Barrientos, age 26, Raynor City United
A/MC: Heike Schoß, age 29, Jinja City FC Image (F)
AMC/ST: Laborious Hawk, age 757, Bastion Image
AMC/ST: Christiane Gröbe, age 29, Bakermouth Image (F)
MC/AMLR: Götz Makatsch, age 29, CF Outineau Image
L/RW: Andreas Bjerk, age 25, Burnaby SC Image
AMLR Miriam Troegner, age 29, Kingsgrove Image (F)
So long as Laborious Hawk continues to don the kit of the Marauders, the midfield for the side will be one that is formidable and the key to success for the team, with the captain at the heart of it in the attacking midfielder position. The playmaking talents of Schoß are enabled by the steely defensive presence of Gideon Riemann. It is on the wings that the biggest question marks now are, with Panfilo Veliz having retired both from club and country, meaning that for the first time in a decade someone else will start on the right. For the time being that is Miriam Troegner, but after a remarkable season with Burnaby, Bjerk could be in a position to earn that position. Indra Söderström is likely to be a key figure, having blossomed in her time in Nephara to a prime talent, but she will need to stay healthy and fit as the options behind her are not as reliable as she has proven to be over the last few tournaments.

Forwards
ST/LW: Lothas Ludwig, age 29, Crisisbless Image
ST: Jutta Palminger, age 28, FC Capri (F)
ST: Elias Hammer, age 30, Lonngeylin Coast Image
ST: Taina Vääräniemi, age 27, Dí Maozöxê Image (F)
ST: Hadi Lundström, age 27, Raynor City United (F)
At the top it is the Ludwig show, not that he has the ego to claim it, but he is one of the best strikers in all of the game right now with a brilliant mix of pace, power, and precision to make him a deadly finisher up front. Scoring goals for fun at Felsenkirchen and at very important intervals for the national team, he alongside Hawk are probably the only two names you could pen into any starting eleven on any given matchday. With a big move to Nephara, will Ludwig be able to transition to the part of his career where he is supposed to be at his prime for club and country? Palminger currently has the position of starting alongside him, being an unusual target forward type build after a late growth spurt, though she is deceptively quick for her size. Behind them are three strikers who all play at an big club and as at least rotational starters with goals in them, not much separating the three from one another, though all are quite some ways behind Ludwig in sheer ability as a striker.

Tropicorp began their competitive Footsport program during AOCAF 49 with their first ever match a respectable 0-3 defeat to regional super powers Valanora. The purpose of their participation was to determine if the regional footsport tournament would be a suitable environment for the testing of products such as athletic gear produced by Tropicorp Sports. During AOCAF 50, Tropicorp put out a call amongst a subset of its scientists, researchers and engineers for support on an ongoing project. The project saw Tropicorp scientists, researchers, engineers and other such guinea pigs wearing special fabrics with electronic measuring devices sewn into them in order to aid in their measurements and calculations. The data collected during AOCAF 50 was absolutely invaluable to the project. The experiments were a success and Tropicorp Engineers have been putting the data to the test at Tropicorp locations in Tropicoast and also at a new facility at an undisclosed location, also on Calania. During AOCAF 51, the scientists, researchers and engineers returned to collect some final data points to push them towards the final phase of the project. However, a strange thing happened during AOCAF 51 - the Tropicorp Scientists - perhaps a result of their own detailed research of the game, began not only to be competitive, but to win matches. The Techies actually qualified for the Knockout Rounds and stunned many with their performances until ultimately being knocked out by host and eventual champion nation Valanora.

From there, Tropicorp became a testing ground for the joint Tropicorp-Cocoabo Park led Cocoabo Enrichment and Enhancement Project. The Cocoabo proved to hold their own on the pitch and proved that they were ready for action, seeing action during World Cup 78 Qualifying for Turori and during the XII Olympiad in Novanaya and Vekaiyu - with the Cocoabo team making it all the way to the Olympic final before losing to Darmen and earning the Silver Medal. Until the Cocoabo lift the NS World Cup trophy, however, the work for the scientists and researchers from Tropicorp and Cocoabo Park will not be done. They will continue tweaking, continue training, and continue CEEPing. Now, the focus for the Tropicorp Team is not to perfect the Cocoabo Squad, but to study the makeup of the 'optimum' team - a hybrid Citizen-Cocoabo Roster that could one way or another shape the future of footsport in the Vilitan Cove. This experiment is expected to continue through an entire generation of Cocoabo. While the current generation have made improvements in collaborating on field with Citizen players, they were bred to function as a singular unit. Only with the next generation of Cocoabo is it believed that full, seamless integration between Citizen and Cocoabo players will be possible.

Tropicorp is expected to favor its citizen players over Cocoabo who have been participating in other tournaments. However, the Cocoabo are still available for selection if required.

Eligibility to compete on Team Tropicorp is defined as follows:
  • Currently Employed by Tropicorp or in Retiree status with Tropicorp
  • Has resided 3+ Years in Vilita, Turori or Tropicoast

Vilitan Defender Moumouni Verre'elali is eligible for Team Tropicorp as a citizen of Vilita and employee of Tropicorp through Tropicorp FC, however the defender has once again been chosen for the Vilita and Turori AOCAF Squad preventing their participation with Team Tropicorp.

Goalkeepers
#1 - Hanauma Ranbomahi is a 27 year old Vilitan Goalkeeper who qualifies to play for the National Team of Tropicorp as an employee of Tropicorp by virtue of playing their club footsport at Tropicorp FC in the Vilitan League. Ranbomahi is expected to play all no fewer then 45 minutes in each match.

Group B Venues:

Radlov Arena
Image
Everything about Radlov is big. Originally a turn of the century construction, it has been expanded and renovated more times than most people can remember. One of the largest stadiums in the Confederacy, which houses one of the nation's largest clubs: Brantisvogan FC. To top all that off, this bright red cathedral of sport is located in the Confederacy's largest city. Competitors will face off in front of over 76,000 spectators, and be surrounded by the 8 million people who call Brantisvogan home. Radlov Arena has previously hosted 5 World Cup Qualifying matches, and was also the chosen venue for the 10th IFCF Champions League Final.

Megabrantid Financial Field
Image
A gleaming glass and steel facade that houses all the most modern and luxurious amenities available. Though MFF may be a few thousands seats smaller than Radlov across town, it's reportedly half again as expensive to operate, if that's something to gloat about. It suits the nouveau-riche, two-time defending Superleague champions, Megabrantid SC perfectly. Despite lacking the history of Brantisvogan and Chalesm, the Firm, as MSC is often called, can boast 5 league titles in the past 15 years, while the Red Flash and Blues have only one each during that span. If Radlov represents the long footballing history of the city of Brantisvogan, MFF represents the glorious present. While it lacks the coveted international final history that Radlov has, in part due to having sold its naming rights to investment Bank Megabrantid Financial, it has hosted 4 World Cup qualifying matches of its own.

Raftel Park
Image
Like Radlov, Raftel Park is a much renovated and expanded stadium built on a much older foundation, as the exposed concrete of its facade testifies. Slightly less than half the size of Brantisvogan by population, Chalesm is the national capital, and home to the majority of Confederate government offices and apparatus. Despite not being nearly so large as the other two hosting stadia for Group B, Raftel is still a venue with a high level of professional polish and plenty of history of its own. Brief National Team History
The Kadongo Kamu have played in exactly 647 games, as of the end of World Cup 92. This is the start of our 20th World Cup cycle overall. We have entered in 17 previous World Cup Qualification campaigns(WCQ73, WCQ74, WCQ75, WCQ76, WCQ77, WCQ79, WCQ80, WCQ82, WCQ84, WCQ85, WCQ86, WCQ87, WCQ88, WCQ89, and WCQ90, WCQ91, WCQ92), and have successfully qualified for 12 out of the last 13 World Cups, famously missing World Cup 89 while we were ranked 5th in the world. We have also participated in Baptism of Fire 60, and been a participant in four different Cup of Harmonies(CoH 66, CoH 67, CoH 71, and CoH 81). In four Cups of Harmony, Banija has only once moved past the group stage, in CoH 81, and they promptly fell on penalties in the Round of 16. In their lone Baptism of Fire, they earned a lone point.

After not competing at all during the World Cup 78 Cycle due to the RBSA's bankruptcy, they re-entered the world of international football in World Cup 79 cycle. A shocking World Cup 79 Qualification campaign saw them on the brink of qualifying, but the team simply ran out of gas and lost 4 of their final 5 matches to not make it to Ceni/Drawkland. Since then, the U21 team got 3rd place at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup, and the national team advanced to the quarterfinals of AOCAF LV, AOCAF LVI, and AOCAF LVII, establishing themselves as a strong regional side, falling to the eventual champs in the latter two tournaments. They stunningly qualified for World Cup 80, after starting poorly by losing 5 of their first 9, to going unbeaten in the second half of qualifying, where they won 7 of those games. In the World Cup 80 Qualification playoffs, a 3-0 first leg victory in Montreal, Royal Kingdom of Quebec, powered the team through to their first ever appearance in the World Cup Finals, advancing to sport's pre-eminent competition 5-3 on aggregate over Mercedini. While a pair of one goal losses saw them eliminated after two games, they earned their first ever victory at the World Cup Finals in a 2-0 win over New Gazi in their final group stage game. As they hosted World Cup 81, they went directly to the tournament, and went to their first ever knockout stages, winning Group A before falling, 1-1(2-1 AET) to Turori in the Round of 16. They cruised to qualification in World Cup 82, maintaining a top two spot in their World Cup Qualification group behind Brenecia for the entirety of the World Cup 82 Qualification campaign, getting to the tournament with relative ease before bowing out in the group stages.

The World Cup 83 cycle was their strongest yet. Starting with AOCAF LVIII on home soil, co-hosted with the Commonwealth of Baker Park, the Kadongo Kamu won 6 consecutive matches to open the tournament, taking their winning streak all the way to the final. Unfortunately, they were felled, 4-2, at home to their archrivals, the Equestrian States. Co-hosting World Cup 83 as well, the Banijans made a miraclous run at the World Cup, upending 5th ranked South Covelllo on penalties, and defeating the then two-time defending world champions Vilita in the quarterfinals, before falling, 3-2, at the national stadium to Starblaydia. They added to the trophy case, however, earning a bronze medal after defeating Cassadaigua in the 3rd place playoff game.

The World Cup 84 cycle, the first with real title expectations for the Banijans, was a disappointment in the regionals, as we fell 1-0 to Ko-oren in the AOCAF Round of 16, although we advanced to the quarterfinals of World Cup 84 before dropping to Eura in extra time. The World Cup 85 cycle seems to be a promise of hope for the Banijans. Although AOCAF LX was a rough tournament for the Banijans, it was surrounded by two excellent tournament performances for the Banijans. We won the U21 World Cup(DBC 47), and are just coming off earning our first ever senior-level trophy, by winning the 8th Eagle's Cup to be admitted as a full, permanent member of the Eagle's Club right before the beginning of World Cup Qualifying. Following that, the Banijans dominated World Cup 85 Qualifying, going wire-to-wire as the first place team in their World Cup Qualifying group, as well as earning more points in World Cup Qualifying(67) than any other team did throughout the entire campaign. Those strong performances both in the Eagle's Cup and World Cup Qualifying have caused fans to put an up and down AOCAF behind them, and heighten the standard for World Cup 85. While they escaped the group stages with four points, strong wins over Vilita and Zwangzug in the knockouts put them on course for a medal, as they eventually beat allies Baker Park in the bronze medal match, after falling 3-2 to the eventual champions Free Republics in the semifinal.

After a return to the AOCAF LXI Quarterfinals, their first quarterfinal appearance in the last 3 editions of the regional championships, they fell to Chromatika on penalties. The World Cup 86 Qualification campaign went rather swimmingly- the national team went a perfect 18-0-0 in World Cup Qualifying, the first time that had happened in well over 10 cycles. The multiverse's #1 ranked squad was brimming with confidence, the two-time bronze medalists entering World Cup 86 trying to win the biggest trophy in all of sports for the first time.

Marcus Waters has always preached the following- "you've got to win at home before you can win the World Cup." It's always meant you've got to win in Atlantian Oceania before you can expect to win the World Cup. And while we've never won the AOCAFs, our group was all Atlantian Oceania sides- Ko-oren, Chromatika, and Mriin. We finished in first place with a 1-0 win over Ko-oren, a 2-2 draw against Chromatika, and a 0-0 draw against Mriin being enough to earn 5 points. Then, we faced a gauntlet of former World champions. A 1-0 win over them put us in our fourth consecutive World Cup Quarterfinal, against 5 time World champions Valanora. A thrilling 4-3 win put us in the semifinal, again facing a GSW rival- World Cup 84 winners Farfadillis. In one of the wildest World Cup semifinals ever played, Banija came out on top 7-6, with a stoppage time winner to put them in the Final against the World Cup 85 winners Nephara. It was a true game of the century- neither team had lost a competitive match since the start of World Cup Qualifying, neither losing during Qualifying or the Finals. And in that thriller, it would be the Banijans who would win, taking a lead and holding onto it, winning by 3 goals to 2 against Nephara to lift the trophy and declare themselves World Cup Champions.

The ensuing AOCAF was strong, but not as strong as they wanted it to be. After starting slowly and losing their opening two games, they finished well done the stretch of group play, and even won a pair of knockout stage games before eventually falling to the champions, Baker Park, in the Semifinals. The Banijans redeemed themselves by earning a bronze medal against Sarzonia. The team took a B squad to Eagle's Cup IX, but a strong performance there landed them a silver medal, losing in the final to Valanora. World Cup 87 did not go the way they expected, getting eliminated in the group stages for the first time since World Cup 82. But we recovered in the World Cup 88 cycle. While a quarterfinal elimination at both Eagle's Cup X and AOCAF LXIII were not great, we were unbeaten in World Cup 88 Qualifying, and reached the World Cup 88 Semifinals, eliminating the defending champions Nephara and falling to the eventual champions Turori along the way. We used that momentum of the semfiinal run to finally earn a regional title, as on our 10th try, we finally won the AOCAFs, defeating Hapilopper in the semifinals and Valanora in the Final, winning both matches via penalty kick shootouts.

That regional title meant little in World Cup Qualifying, however, as Pemecutan and Zwangzug both pipped past Banija to automatically qualify for the World Cup, and left Banija in the dust, gasping for air. That called for a reset from the RSBA, which led to Marcus Waters resigning and Pam Scott be hired. While neither the Cup of Harmony nor the AOCAFs went particularly well, Pam Scott's laser focus on qualifying for the World Cup was a success, as the team not only went to World Cup 90, but showed up in style, winning a pair of penalty shootouts, before falling to the eventual winners, The Holy Empire, on PKs, in the semifinals. They still beat Valanora in the third place match, 2-1, to earn their third overall bronze medal. To reset things for World Cup 91, Banija easily won our qualification group, but flopped on our face in the Finals- losing our last two group stage matches after opening the tournament with 3 points, and promptly falling out at the group stages.

Pam Scott changed the mood entirely following, however, as the Banijans surprised many by winning AOCAF 67, including eliminating tournament favorites, Valanora, on home soil. The team built on that, in what was one of their best cycles ever- after going unbeaten in Qualifying (17 wins and 3 draws, with no losses), they went to the World Cup with confidence. After winning their group with ease, 7 points, they made it all the way to their Second ever World Cup Final, at World Cup 92. Wins over Squidroidia and world number ones Turori followed in the knockout stages, followed by a PK shootout victory over Valanora. But in the World Cup 92 Final, they fell at the final hurdle, as Zwangzug lifted the sport's ultimate trophy. But there's no secret about it- Banija have tasted ultimate glory last cycle, and they want it- starting by trying to launch the first successful trophy defense in NT history, by retaining the regional title.

List of National Team managers
1. Kizza Kabila(Banija). Manager for Baptism of Fire 60 and the World Cup 73 Qualification Campaign. Overall record of 0-14-1(W-L-D).

Kizza Kabila is the only Banijan to have ever managed the national team. Hired for Banija's first foray onto the international scene in this sport, his reign was universally derided as a disaster. Managing 15 games, he drew his first game in the Baptism of Fire, and not only lost the next two, he then lost ever single match in the 12 game World Cup Qualification campaign for World Cup 73, with the side only scoring 5 goals across the entire campaign. Unceremoniously fired after becoming one of few managers to go through an entire World Cup Qualification campaign without earning a single point, he, alongside the entire board of the RBSA, resigned after the last game. He was disgraced in the sport after the campaign, and, to this point, has never returned to top-level soccer.

2.Jan Cassallerus(San Llera): Hired before the start of the World Cup 74 Qualification Campaign, managed through the World Cup 77 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 27-32-16(W-L-D).

Banija put its eyes abroad, searching for a foreign manager before the World Cup 74 Qualification campaign, and found Jan Cassallerus. He is Banija's longest ever serving manager, being at the helm for four entire World Cup cycles, and being at the helm for 75 total games, a kind of longevity unheard of in the modern game, especially managing the national team. He started winning a game at the Coupe D'Esquarium, in what was known as the group of death. He was largely celebrated for bringing the team into relevancy. The expectations were through the floor, following Kizza Kabila, but he brought the team to Cup of Harmony 66 and Cup of Harmony 67, as well as advancing in Olympic Qualifying and getting third place at the United Valhaven Regional Football Championships. He was forced into retirement after the World Cup 77 Qualification campaign, when the RBSA declared bankruptcy, and could not participate in the World Cup 78 Qualification Campaign due to their inability to compensate players and staff.

3. Randolf Cherry(Drawkland): Hired before the start of the World Cup 79 Qualification Campaign. Overall Record of 20-24-2(W-L-D)

Randolf Cherry, after the RBSA got its act together, was hired- controversially- as the manager of the national team. Not that his own hire was controversial, it was applauded across the sports spectrum here at home. He was given a 3 cycle contract, and everyone knew what the goal was- to make the World Cup Finals at least once over the course of the contract. They understood that it would take time to climb the rankings, and they were willing to give him the leash. However, he came in a very awkward situation. Adama Sowe, the Chairman of the RBSA, allegedly first offered the job to Sarah Owens, out of the Equestrian States. Of course, it is illegal in Banija for women to coach men's professional teams, and that caused controversy. And yet, here he was- the manager of the national team.

His own home country of Drawkland is, of course, very progressive in that area, where the sport is dominated by the ladies. Regardless, he had an excellent start to his reign as a manger, and was initially extremely popular. He won his first game, in a special Eagles Club match, against Aggrey-Fynn Land. He lost his first few qualifiers, but he went on a dear through the middle of qualifying, which included a 7 game winning streak on home soil. Big wins against then 4th ranked Chromatika at home and then 32nd ranked Eshan, put them in the conversation of World Cup Qualification, though they were simply not strong enough.

The Cup of Harmony was considered a disaster, finishing in dead last in their group. The competition maybe simply isn't for the Banijans, eh? But they were strong throughout the offseason, making a surprising quarterfinal run in AOCAF LV and bringing high hopes to the squad going into World Cup 80 Qualification. Hopes were through the roof for the national team, maybe even bordering unrealistic. They struggled, and the campaign got worse as the pressure built, as the squad lost their final four qualifiers of the first half of qualifying. With the campaign seemingly in free-fall, he was fired, as the RBSA said they wanted time to conduct "an open, thorough, search."

4. Marcus Waters(Equestrian States): Hired after the 1st half of World Cup 80 Qualifying, fired at the end of World Cup 89 Qualifying. Overall record of 257-81-50(W-L-D). All-time winning percentage of 66.24%. All-time points percentage of 70.53%.

Marcus Waters was the national team's assistant manager with Randolf Cherry above him, and the manager of the youth national teams. He first gained notoriety in Banija after successfully leading the U21 team to a 3rd place finish at the 42nd Di Bradini Cup. With his abilities clear, it made sense to move onto him as the interim manager as they searched for a permanent manager ahead of the second half of World Cup Qualifying. However, he was able to complete a stunning turnaround of this team. His first game in charge, he changed nearly the entire backline, and had a massive upset, away to Qasden, by a score of 3-2. A 3-0 victory over Razenthuria in the other mid-qualifying friendly got high hopes for him.

Marcus Waters went out with an intent to keep his team focused, despite everything going on at home. He has proven adept at navigating the political minefield that is this job, especially with his own country of origin essentially at war with Banija. He didn't lose a single game in the second half of qualifying, winning 7 games to get to the playoffs, including when the team was forced to play home games in Montreal due to ongoing violence within Banija. He was widely applauded for getting the team ready to play in Montreal, and winning 1-0 against Turori, the group's top seeded squad, and a 3-0 win in Montreal in the Qualification playoffs. While the RBSA interviewed four other candidates, his successful push through the World Cup Qualification playoffs and into Banija's first-ever World Cup Finals essentially clinched the job for him, as he put pen to paper to take the interim tag off of his title ahead of the 80th World Cup Finals.

Since then, of course, he has done a lot to garner the confidence of the higher-ups, and of the fans. Falling to the eventual champions in the quarterfinals of both AOCAF LVI and AOCAF LVII was widely seen as a positive. As well as, of course, a surprising Fourth Place finish in the Cup of Champions Six, highlighted by a surprising point earned in their matchup against Nephara, while also pushing through to the Round of 16 of World Cup 81, pleasing the home fans. A different sort of pressure faces him this campaign, however.

For the first time in his reign, you could say that Banija had a disappointing tournament, failing to advance in World Cup 82 beyond the group stages. It might be harsh to say that- on paper, advancing from a group with both Pasarga and Farfadillis is a tall order if your team is not Pasarga or Farfadillis. They responded well, however, winning six consecutive games at AOCAF LVIII, and knocking off major nations including Cosumar and Mriin at the tournament, before being felled in the final, in their own capitol of Busukuma, to Equestria. Following up with a World Cup on home soil, they continued that momentum forward from AOCAF LVIII, as the Banijans took on the role of giantslayers on home soil. They beat the 5th ranked South Covello side, and the then two-time defending world champions Vilita, before eventually falling to Starblaydia in the semifinals, though they still earned a bronze medal. Although momentum was blunted after a tough 1-0 defeat to Ko-oren that secured an early exit from AOCAF LIX, they followed that up with their second straight appearance in the World Cup Quarterfinals, where they fell to Eura in extra time.

The last two cycles he really got the team to rise above themselves. The last two World Cup Qualification cycles, Banija has finished as the best team in World Cup Qualifying by points earned. And he has the silverware to match- a bronze medal earned in World Cup 85, followed by a gold medal in World Cup 86. Having risen from basically nowhere in Equestria to household name status in Banija, he has truly made a name for himself as one of the world's premier international managers. While World Cup 87 was disappointing, he quickly ensured that was a one-off, rather than a sign of things to come. He brought Banija to their fourth World Cup semifinal in their past six tournaments at World Cup 88, and followed that up with winning the country's first ever regional title.

But he is now a victim of his own success. An Eagle's Cup champion, the AO champion, and a World Cup champion, he drastically raised the bar for the Kadongo Kamu. But Banija winning 9 of their last 10 Qualifiers could not overcome their disastrous, and therefore, we did not qualify for the World Cup Finals. The RBSA had no other choice but to let the legend and Hall of Famer walk, as the time has come around for the national team to change their head man for the first time since World Cup 80.

5. Pamela Scott(Commonwealth of Baker Park): Hired after World Cup 89 Qualifying, right before Cup of Harmony 81. Overall Record of 77-21-25(W-L-D). Winning percentage: 62.60%. Points percentage: 69.38%

Scott is widely regarded as one of the brightest tactical minds in the sport, and her record speaks for itself. Replaced Trevor Richmond as BP National Team Manager after the side qualified for the WC in their first three attemps, then followed Ichi Tuzzio as boss of the WC 85 Champions, overhauling the roster and bringing a bit of defensive awareness to the legendary Farf attacking style. Has an eye for young talent and not afraid to give them a chance. The above is why she was hired- leverage her experience to bring stabilization to a national team that is currently reeling.

While the Cup of Harmony and the AOCAFs both resulted in disappointing exits at the Round of 16, and the Eagle's Cup went disastrously(not scoring for 5 consecutive matches), Pam Scott is still upbeat about the direction of the national team. "With this cycle, everything is about World Cup Qualification." She told reporters. "Those tournaments, while they did not go well, were about finding the right squad, building to this moment. Banija wants to compete on all fronts, of course- but we cannot do that if we are not qualifying for the World Cup. These tournaments, while not great on the field, have allowed me to experiment all sorts of lineups, and expose different players to elite competition at the international stage. How they deal with things like pressure. You're going to see much different results when the team takes the field for World Cup 90 Qualifying."

But her first World Cup in charge was an unmitigated success. Beating both Audioslavia and Eura was a stunner, as Banija won the group of death with a game to go. Not resting on their laurels, they downed two AO rivals, SRS and Baker Park, in back-to-back games in route to the semifinals, and eventually, a bronze medal. With that success, Pam Scott declared that the national team is "back to competing on all fronts". While the last World Cup's group stage embarassment was a disappointment, she more than made up for it by bringing home her first major international trophy- the AOCAFs.

Banija's regional title, beating two World Cup contenders(Valanora and Vilita & Turori) to get there was a watershed moment, as she declared the team is 'back to competing with the big boys'. She followed that up with a run to the World Cup Final, confirming her status among the elite of international managers. Can she further burnish her reputation by adding to her trophy cabinet?

1. The Equestrian States. All time Banijan record against opponent- 1-7-2(W-L-T).

The Equestrian States are easily Banija's biggest rival, and by a country mile. It has all the makings of a good international sporting rivalry- plenty of matches played, history of competitive matches, geopolitical rivalry, player familiarity, and, of course, geographical proximity- all those boxes are checked. They've played each other 5 times, and Banija has come out on the losing end each and every time, most recently a 4-0 clobbering at the hands of the Equestrian States during Banija's final friendly before this qualification tournament began.

Three times have they played in competitive competition, and three times Banija has fallen. The Equestrian States eliminated Banija from Cup of Harmony 71 in group play, while also defeating the Banijans in both the opening match of World Cup 80, and the final group stage match of AOCAF LVI, though the Banijans still advanced to the quarterfinals of that tournament. The familiarity of players between each other is strong. Banija's present and most successfull all-time manager, Marcus Waters, is Equestrian. A number of players in each country play in leagues in the other. Famous Equestrian NT players like Aaron Aiza, Rosie Tyler, and Josef Lawrenz, ply their trade in the Banijan Soccer League, with Aiza particularly growing to superstar status while winning league titles at Herzegovina City FC.

Banija's first ever major final in this sport, at the senior level, was against none other than Equestria at the national stadium, with the winner to be crowned champions of AOCAF LVIII Final. In front of a decidedly pro-Banijan crowd, it was the Equestrians who dashed Banijan dreams of glory on their home turf as they picked up their first ever major international silverware, with a 4-2 victory. That victory has made the Banijans just that much hungrier to defeat their bitter rivals, and though the history is lopsided in favor of Equestria, that has just fueled the fire on this side of the matchup. The two sides co-hosted World Cup 83 together, and almost had a rematch of their AOCAF LVIII Final in the World Cup Final, though Banija could not fulfill its end of the bargain as they fell to a stronger Starblaydia side in the semifinals. Equestria, of course went on to win the World Cup, and the next AOCAF to boot, establish a fully fledged dynasty. The Banijans, in pre WOrld Cup 84 Qualification friendlies, got their first ever result against the Equestrians, a 0-0 draw in Everfree.

Equestria and Banija were in the same group at AOCAF LXII, with the opening match of the tournament being a repeat of the AOCAF LVIII Final. Banija, we thought, rising high and champions. But Equestria came to rain on the parade. They won on Matchday 1, by a score of 2-1 in Busukuma, and we could only manage a return draw. Our fiercest rivals, and yet, we've still never managed to have beaten them, in a competitive or a friendly match. That search for the elusive win against Equestria continues.

Banija landed their first ever win over Equestria in the Round of 16 at AOCAF LXVI. Years of angst were excised by this national team, as , in a match that may have finally begun to turn this rivalry towards team Banija. With the two teams paired in this cycle here at World Cup Qualifying, Banija will look to ensure that beating their rival was not a fluke- but turn that into a habit.

2. Farfadillis. All time Banijan record against opponent- 2-5-0(W-L-T)

What makes a good international rivalry? You need a mixture of history and luck. Luck, to have played in plenty of high stakes matches against each other on the biggest stages- World Cups, AOCAFs, and the like. But you also need nearness. What makes these two know each other so well? We've played in twice as many competitive matches against Chromatika as we have against Farfadillis.

Well, let's go with the political intrigue. Of course, there's geography- Farfadillis is the closest nation to Banija that does not share a land border with Banija. Their former capitol, is on the northern tip of their island, which is just south of Busukuma, the Banijan capitol city. So of course, there's that familiarity. And when the Farfadillis national government fell apart and they fell into some sort of a controlled chaos, many refugees fled Farfadillis for the stability of Banija. Busukuma became the natural landing place. There are no official numbers, but there an estimated 100,000 or so Farf refugees across the country, but with over half of them, around 60,000, residing in Busukuma.

So there's that familiarity on an intimate level, especially in Banija, and especially in Banija's capitol. Especially in the capitol, it's always a huge deal when these two meet. And besides that? Well, of course, we dropped a few nuclear warheads on Farfadillis, where Banija's nuclear weapons got both hacked and stolen by operatives. While, surprisingly, it didn't cause as much damage as one would expect, 5 nuclear weapons are still quite a bit to get hit by. Farf citizens weren't exactly appreciative, and that is fresh in everybody's mind.

Lastly, look at the integration of our footballing systems. We have a combined league. With the combination of our top flights in the Shango-Fogoa Premier League, Banijan footballing fans and Farf footballing fans interact every single week. Sometimes peacefully, sometimes violently, always loud and passionately. For two seperate nations(plus Busoga), they have a very integrated league system. And that, of course, will mean that the rivalry is played out every week. Banijan teams v. Farf teams. Farf teams got the better of their Banijan opponents, by and large, throughout the inaugural season, but there is still plenty left to say on the subject.

This is Banija's clear #2 rival, ahead of anybody else, besides Equestria. And as the S-FPL continues, this rivalry will continue to be competitive for years to come. Not to mention, the two have played a pair of thrilling World Cup Finals matches against each other- Farfadillis being victorious in World Cup 81, and then being victorious again in World Cup 84, where they went on to win that World Cup. What'd be more fun than another Finals matchup between these two juggernauts, right?

3. Chromatika. All time Banijan record against opponent- 7-3-2(W-L-T)

This is, admittedly, not the first nation you think of when you think of Banija's rivals. But There is a long-time history between these two nations. These two have more shared history than Banija and any other opponent, at least in competitive matches. Banija and Chromatika have faced off a grand total of 9 times competitively- all in the modern era of Banijan soccer, which is WCQ79-present. It was that first campaign back, after the RBSA bankruptcy, where it was established.

Banija had one of their biggest ever all-time wins in that Qualifying campaign, our first ever win over a top 5 opponent, when we beat then #4 Chromatika 2-1 in Jinja City. It's a night that has gone down in Banijan history. Looking back, many see it as Banija's first true launch towards where we are now- from a consistent middle of the pack nation in Qualifying, who couldn't do anything in the Cup of Harmony, to demanding a seat at the table by being an elite squad.

And we've played plenty of times since, as well. AOCAF LXI- we beat them in the group stages, only to fall to them in the Quarterfinals, on penalty kicks. We each got clean sheet victories over the other team at Eagle's Cup VIII, a tournament that we ended up winning. And we played them twice in World Cup Qualifying for 86, beating them twice en route to a perfect 18-0-0 Qualifying record. We played them again at the Finals, and we battled out a 2-2 draw.

They're a tough opponent, and considering the frequency of our matches in recent years, meeting up in the Finals would not be that unexpected. We know each other well, have played with plenty of stakes on the line. And, of course, there's those cultural and political connections that make the greatest international rivalries- a Banijan delegation, led by present Banijan Ambassador to Chromatika and former Banijan Minister of Justice, Xolile Lubabalo, helped shepherd Chromatika's transition to democracy. It's friendly, but there's plenty of history to make it interesting.

Honorable Mentions
Nations mentioned here are considered key rivals, but there is not enough competitive match history to really define it as a rivalry. Nations are not listed in order.

- Siovanija & Teusland(Geographic proximity, cultural + political ties)
- Valanora(geographic proximity)
- Royal Kingdom of Quebec(general history and close political/cultural ties- Banija is a former colony of Quebec and they have been close ever since)
- Sarzonia(General sporting rivalry, history with 3 AOCAF matches against each other, 2 World Cup Qualifying matches, and a World Cup Finals match)
- Baker Park(cultural plus political ties)

Players who retired from international duty fter World Cup 92
GK Wanda Kouyate (41 years old)
CM Idi Mboge (35 years old)
CM Momodou Jassey (33 years old)

Select Player Bios

1. GK Wanda Kouyaté

39 years old, and she is still going strong for club and country. Following Banija's AOCAF triumph, some older players who were expected to be back for this tournament retired from the national team- particularly 36 year old striker Kausu Dione, one of Banija's great goalscorerrs, and 37 year old center back Demba Kinteh, the long-time captain. Those 2, and now Wanda, are the only connections left Banija has to its golden generation- aka, the players who, at World Cup 86, accomplished the greatest feat in the history of Banijan sports- by going undefeated throughout an entire World Cup cycle, and winning the World Cup.

Wanda is the most decorated international in Banija history, and is one of the most decorated players of all-time, full stop. Think of her international trophy cabinet- she remains the only player, from any country anywhere, to have won the U18, U21, and senior World Cups during their career. Of course, the U18 and senior World Cups she was on the bench, but she's got the trophies. She's not just lucky either, by being in the right place at the right time. Ever since she took over the senior NT, she's been rock solid, helping the team to a pair of World Cup semifinal appearances, as well as two AOCAF championships.

She's basically graying, but she's still going strong. "I started 29 games for my club this past season." She told reporters ahead of team selection. "I'm ecstatic to finally wear the armband, and I've got high ambitions- another World Cup run for the Kadongo Kamu." Even as she's getting near 40, it doesn't seem that she's really losing anything athletically, or in her ability to really impact the game. The next generation of Banijan goalkeepers will have to wait at least one more World Cup cycle to finally get their hands on the #1 jersey.

2. ST Abel Wesoloski-Okafor

The dual-national superstar. Being born in, and growing up in, Quebec & Shingoyreo, he was expected to try and play for their NT- even though he was eligible for Banija through a birth parent. But with the striker position clogged up in Quebec, he moved to Banija to play, and got an opportunity to shine at the club level as a teenager here. He moved to the S-FPL, for a lower level team, and then moved his way into the national team. While he's now plying his trade in Pasarga, he's seized his opportunity, quickly working his way to the starting XI, and now getting the #9 jersey at the age of 24- Banija's star player at the position, benefitting by the stunning lack of depth at the position behind him.

With the team back to a 1 striker formation for the first time since World Cup 86, the pressure is heaped on Banija's most proven goalscorer, at the moment, to score just a bucketload of goals. Can he get it done? Not to mention, he's got 40 career goals at just age 24. Already #12 on the all-time goalscoring list for Banija. Long-term, can he do enough to challenge the all-time career NT scoring record of 110? Defenses will hone in on him like never before, even with high up wingers helping to try and take the pressure off. Can the goalscorer still bag the goals? Or will the pressure be too much for Banija's new #9?

3. Sarafina Ikpeazu

Remember back when women weren't even allowed to play for the NT? Those were indeed days that were long ago, as now the team's vice-captain, and another offensive superstar, Sarafina Ikpeazu, remains at the center of the team. A long-time starter at winger, Ikpeazu has always been an indispensable player on the pitch- one of those who basically always found her way to the pitch. She's played big roles at big clubs across the multiverse, and with the vice captaincy given to her, and her reaching 30, she's trying to help lead this team all the way to the World Cup Finals.

She's got a nasty taste in her mouth after Banija's group stage elimination at World Cup 91. Can she help get the NT back to where they feel they belong, making deep runs into the knockout stages of the World Cup? They won't be able to do it unless she's at her very best- if she's not at top level, then this team, simply put, does not have a chance. Can the indispensable lady lead Banija back to great heights?

Nation name: Jabal Akhdar
Trigram: EJA
Adjective/demonym: Akhdari
Nickname: Green Falcons

All players are domestic unless otherwise noted, but the most recent domestic season did not take place. All are available as free agents. New players in red.

Coach: Zuhair Badr Abdullah el-Hameed

el-Hameed takes over from el-Hamid (no relation) after the latter led the Green Falcons do a disastrous regression in AOCAFs 66 & 67; having made promising progress, the Green Falcons are now winless in over four years. el-Hamid was turning 70 when he was fired so the choice to go for a younger candidate is sensible, but at 31 el-Hameed might still be seen as an alarming counterreaction of a choice. el-Hameed has managed Salayrah and Khamad. Known for his rapport with younger players he's not as strict a disciplinarian as el-Hamid, but tactically the two aren't as far apart as the generational gulf might suggest.

Goalkeepers

1 – GK – Mamdooh el-Abdul (Salayrah) – 31
13 – GK – Taamir Muzammil al-Semaan (Image Audio Bull Energy) – 20
23 – GK – Najeem Ali al-Anan (Image Bugebanda) – 28

al-Semaan, a promising young prospect, is thrust into the starter role in preference to the tried and tested (and mostly found wanting in said tests) el-Abdul, a controversial but acrobatic figure, who's served a doping ban can be indecisive in managing his defensive area. al-Semaan is a lanky pure shot-stopper and has become known for his booming kicks regularly travelling two-thirds of the field, but isn't up to much scratch with the ball at his feet. He made his name saving every single penalty in the EJA Cup semi-final shootout.

Defenders

2 – DL – Mu’min Humam Kassis (AOPIC Greens) – 32
3 – DR – Rayyan Noor Zaman (Image Maigburg) – 31
4 – DC – Umair Jalil al-Jalil (Dhabaidat) – 26
6 – DC – Umar el-Saladin (Image Caballeros CF) – 24
12 – DC – Bilal Nadheer el-Sabir (Kalbam) – 27
17 – DL – Faai Zayyaan el-Karim (Ashkarqa) – 27
18 – DR – Masood Abdullah (Habasfan) – 25
19 – DC – Talha Nizaam el-Galla (AOPIC Greens) – 18
21 – DC – Sabri el-Salaam (AOPIC Greens) – 23

el-Saladin and al-Jalil made a somewhat uncertain centre back pairing 2 years ago; the hope is they've matured a little. The Green Falcons have struggled a lot at this position and with younger options like the tall el-Salaam and skilled el-Galla emerging, patience with the two may not last long. At fullback it's a different story: Zaman remains the team's best player, a wing-back with a powerful right boot who’s always a threat to shoot or cross; unusually for a fullback, he was the team’s highest scorer in World Cup qualifying. Kassis has bounced in and out of the team; out, for the moment, with the steady el-Karim preferred to the flashier option at left-back.

Midfielders

5 – DM – Raihaan al-Dajani (Kalbam) – 18
7 – MC – Abdul-Majid Jarir Hakimi (AOPIC Greens) – 34
14 – DM – Mutlaq el-Basha (AOPIC Greens) – 26
16 – MC – Abdul Jaabir al-Shahan (Image Caballeros CF) – 22
20 – MC – Ali Noor (AOPIC Greens) – 21
22 – MC – Jalaal el-Mady (Habasfan) – 21
25 – MC – Saajid Faarooq el-Hamdan (Image AC Zul'Atun) – 25

el-Basha, a sturdy and uncomplicated defensive midfielder, loses out to the young talent al-Dajani, who's a more rounded talent. It's all change, too, with Hakimi, long the team's heart, relegated to the bench. el-Mady is a tireless box-to-box energy presence, while Ali Noor is the new creative talent for the country's best team, AOPIC Greens. al-Shahan, who's a good set-piece target thanks to this height, and the speedy el-Hamdan also join the squad for the first time.

Forwards

8 – LW – Shukkriya Juwairiya el-Mahfouz (AOPIC Greens) – 20
9 – CF – Yaasir al-Raad (Khamad) – 27
10 – CF – Mohammad Qutb el-Hashmi (Image Khupolole Leopards) – 27
11 – RW – Hamaad Hamdaan el-Haider (Habasfan) – 19
15 – RW – Mansur Hosain ([WXA] Stellar Snakes) – 23
24 – LW – Numair Kassem Yousef (Khamad) – 24
26 – CF – Shaqeequddeen (Image Athletic Rolalas) – 23

The wash of red as the Green Falcons' ageing strikers finally hang up their boots sees a completely new front three. al-Raad is probably the first choice centre forward, a tall and confident target man with a strong left boot and absolutely no right, but el-Hashmi could displace him as a better option to drop into a 10 role and distribute. They're flanked by very young wingers in a daring gambit: el-Haider and el-Mahfouz are, combined, not even 40. Given the greenness of these Green Falcons, there may be a lot of rotation.

"Listen, I do not care how much money is being offered, it is a matter of principle. Those who wanted to bid for the group stage hosting had ample time to do so, the hosting committee formally received six bids to host the five groups that were up for the event." The host organizer was making some final preparations a few days before the opening kickoff in Raynor City to ensure that the opening ceremony and all of the tournament would go off without a hitch. Unfortunately he was being accosted by a member from the VSC, who used their enormous power as the governmental body organizing sport in the nation to more or less get whatever they wanted.

"I can appreciate where you are coming from and normally I would agree with you, such as it is, but this is a unique case in an unique situation. If you wanted to have complete and total control of the logistics, you should not have made it part of the bid that this was more of an AOCAF Cup for the entire region instead of being one hosted in the Empire. By doing so you invited the rest of the region to have more of a say in how the competition is going to be run and now there have been numerous requests for this one event to transpire. The cove nations in particular have offered quite a hefty sum if you will at least entertain the idea." The representative was trying not to emphasize the not so insignificant amount of silver that was being offered in donation to the VSC if the proposal was accepted.

"Do you know how bad this would look? We would get accused of bribery or favoritism or some other such irresponsible things. And to top it all off, do we know if they even want to do this, as I would argue that they do not as they did not submit a bid themselves. Do you not find it curious that another nation is trying to force through a bid on anther's behalf instead of their own?" It did strike the organizer as more than a little odd that there were multiple nations that had been advocating for this allotment, if the VSC representative was to be believed in full. While the organizer did not believe that the representative would outright lie to him, he did not trust him not to stretch the truth if it suited their ends.

"Well, I agree it is a bit unusual that the nation themselves did not offer up a bid if they had interest in hosting a group stage like the other six who did submit their bids. However, I have been told that many from this nation are not keen on making a big splash and that this sort of move might have come across as being too ambitious for their own good. After all, it took foreign investment for them to consider turning the top tier of their domestic league a professional structure, perhaps they were too meek to offer up a challenging bid to the others? As for the bribery, well you can find a way to spin that into some positive light, maybe invite more bids for the rest of the so called knockout trees?" There was a sly smile on the representative's face as he knew he found his way in with the way the host organizer was looking a bit perplexed.

"Perhaps, there might be a way. Fine, I will make a few phone calls and see if this is even feasible, hopefully that will suffice even if things to not go the way these supporters of yours desire? Now, leave me be, I have much work still to be done before the first kick is to be had, if you want a successfully run tournament after all."

Laurent Assidon returns as the head coach of the Mountain Lions for the second of a three-AOCAF, six year contract. The Maisonbleue native, who comes from Jewish parentage, has served as a youth team and senior assistant for Olympique de Rimouski after a decadelong career with Olympique, St. John's Arsenal and Jolbonopolis United, and just finished managing the Q-League side on his first season with the club to a solid, sixth-plae finish.

He is a defensive specialist with penchant for devastating counterattacks, something that the Tamazghans have been long infamous on the Quebecois Commonwealth for, and is considered a mild-mannered, reasonable manager who could hold a diverse locker room. He is married to Soraya, a lifestyle writer working in Joongyeong, with their son Clement playing for RC Khenikech and the national team.

"David, why are you getting all these letters from Valanora and Vilita?" Alexis Masteron asked her husband as they sat down for breakfast. There was a pile of letters that was nearly three inches thick, each other sealed with the official tag from either the governments of Valanora or Vilita. It was quite a strange sight for David Masteron III to have woken up to. His was a mostly easy life, his family was still living well off of all the wages and royalties that his great grandfather had earned. The first David Masteron was still celebrated as a cult hero throughout Demot, having been the star player for the Dynamo when they had been a real power in the world, having made multiple World Cup Finals. That was nearly a century gone and yet he was still so revered and the family still treated almost as well as royalty.

"I don't know, although they do look all official like. I hope they do not think I am some sort of representative of the country? The family is treated like royalty but we are not really royalty! At least, I do not think I am related to the Queen." David said as he grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down, flipping over a few of the letters that had been addressed to him. It definitely looked like it had been more than one days worth of mail, more like nearly an entire week's worth. "Has the mail not been getting delivered, this looks like an awful lot of letters for just one or two days."

"As far as I know the mail has been coming every day that it has been scheduled to. What do you think they are all for, you are not in some sort of trouble are you?" His wife suddenly looked on in a bit of fright.

"How can I be in any sort of trouble, I have not left the country in years and the few times that I have it has just been to go and watch the national team play in the AOCAF and you have been with me. Still, it is an awful lot of letters to get all at once." Pulling one from Valanora to his chest, he flipped it over and began to open it and revealing the contents within. The seal of the Eternal Empire was on the bottom of the letter and his eyes drifted upwards to the top and began to read downwards, relief coming at first and then a bit of confusion. "It seems we are being invited to the opening ceromony of the upcoming AOCAF as honored guests of Valanora and then are being provided tickets and transportation to all of the games for the Dynamo."

"Well that is awfully generous of them, but why are they picking you and not one of the political dignitaries?" Alexis asked, showing a bit of relief herself that it seemed to just be a formal invitation.

"Apparently the Queen declined but recommended me for the position instead. I guess pack our bags hunny, we're heading to Valanora..."

ABOUT FARFADILLIS
potentially outdated map for reference

A nation is usually defined as “a large body of people united by common descent, history, culture, or language, inhabiting a particular country or territory.” A country is usually defined as “a nation with its own government, occupying a particular territory.” As such, contrary to popular misconception, Farfadillis is neither a country nor a nation. The reasons are twofold: first, to what extent governments exist in Farfadillis in the current day is a matter of fierce scholarly debate, and second, there are various ethnicities in Farfadillis that appear to have diverged culturally centuries ago, although it is impossible to know for sure because historical records are very hard to come by in Farfadillis.

So, having clarified what Farfadillis is not, it would be perhaps helpful to give information about what it is. Again, academics haven't ironed out the details and reached a consensus, but it is generally agreed that somewhere between eight and fifteen ethnostates, depending on who's counting and how, coexist in the island of Farfadillis, with the most cited figure being nine. We will henceforth assume that this last figure is, indeed, correct. As such, Farfadillis could be considered a “Plurinational Entity” in the literal sense that, whatever it is, it is definitely an entity, and it certainly has more than one nation in it. For simplicity, when we say Farf we will mean any ethnicity from the island of Farfadillis.

Although members of any given Farf ethnicity would spit on you for even implying they are similar to any other given Farf ethnicity, the reality is that all but one Farf ethnicity share a lot of cultural common ground. In fact, their cultural common ground is particularly distinctive and makes it hard for Farf refugees to set each other apart in other countries, where their differences between this common ground and the local culture tend to be far starker. This cultural common ground includes, but is not limited to: a general disregard for authority and order (in any sense of the word), a seemingly unhealthy obsession with fire (although some of it is down to fire being a very important part of the various Farf religions), recklessness (risk-taking behavior, if you want to be more charitable), and a very inconvenient ability for distraction.

The various Farf ethnicities do differ considerably, however, and this is reflected in the ongoing border friction between the various ethnostates. This is despite the fact that, ironically, Farves display omniglottery: the ability to learn any language to a native level with minimal exposition. They are not psychics, so can't just know what words mean without having heard them, but they can visit another country and talk like a native within a month if they want to. Most older Farves speak their local language, as well as Ferdullaelan, because in the past Farfadillis was a country, and Ferdullaele, as the capital, was a cultural hegemon. Farves who live on the border between two given ethnostates generally speak both languages, in many cases having picked up the other language passively and unintentionally. This heavily facilitates migration between ethnostates, as neighboring ethnicities are generally not too different-looking, and as such a Farf from any given ethnicity could cross a border and pretend to have always been a member of the other side's ethnicity. This has the interesting consequence of making the borders between ethnostates cultural melting pots, mish-mashing the cultures of both ethnicities far more than outside Farfadillis.

Regarding the nine ethnostates we have been referring to, here we present brief descriptions of those generally agreed to be “the” nine ethnostates, in alphabetical order:

Farolera is a very populous country, and is the most economically powerful nowadays, as their capacity for self-sustenance during the anarchy years was far greater than their traditional competition, the Ferdullaelans. Their territory is filled with lush forests and fertile farmland, which is actually an important part of the Faroleran identity. After Karinthians, Farolerans are generally considered to be the least Farf of the big Farf ethnicities, but they nonetheless display all of the aforementioned cultural common ground to a very noticeable degree. Farolerans speak Faroleran, which to many foreigners sounds remarkably similar to Spanish.

Ferdullaele is the ethnostate with the most fertile land, which historically gave them an enormous headstart. However, their population was the one that failed the most to adapt to the total collapse of society eighteen years ago, and as such the ethnostate is, forgive us for making things even more complicated, not strictly an ethnostate: order (in the loosest sense), hasn't quite returned to Ferdullaele; it has instead devolved into various subcommunities exercising what would best be described as anarcho-capitalism and they, of course, hate each other.

Fröndt is a very mountainous region, and most urban centers are in those mountains. The weather is extremely dry and cold, and the fauna is unforgiving. The Fröndti are typically more hard-working and level-headed than other Farves—or so they like to believe—and think of themselves as the reasonable, neutral people of the island. The rest of the island disagrees, as do most scholars. The rest of the island disagrees. They've had trouble with the extremely harsh winters and the flying jellyfish lately, but they're a resilient bunch, so they've adapted to the times.

Induja lies at the center of Farfadillis. All of the beautiful Farf biomes clash in Induja, which makes it the most naturally beautiful of the ethnostates. By driving less than two hundred kilometers, you can go from jungle to desert to plains to mountains. Due to this, Indujans are actually quite secluded, despite bordering a whopping six other ethnicities. Indujans are traditionally... well, forgotten. To most Farves, they're just that place you have to go through to reach other places, though this attitude towards them has been relenting in recent years.

Karinthia is a recently-discovered tribe of about thirty thousand people who live in the Szoirsian desert. Some scientists believe they'd flown under the radar for millennia, somehow. They seem to speak a language with no similarities with any other Farf language. The Farves that have come into contact with them have found them very bizarre, for the most part because they seemed to pay attention to detail and have a commendable work ethic, coupled with a fleshed-out concept of respect and hierarchy. One thing about them is shared with all other ethnicities, however: they venerate fire.

Kruviš is the most populated ethnostate, though only by a slight margin and only if you're willing to trust a Farf census from twenty-five years ago. This nation is mostly one huge jungle, but closer to the coast the jungle gives way for civilization... to a degree. The fauna here is perhaps the most dangerous you'll find on the island, which is really saying something. Wasps that explode (like bombs) when stinging, spider-snakes, frogs whose poison literally sends you to hell, etc. The Kruviši are even more fiercely nationalistic than the other ethnicities but tend to direct their xenophobia more towards non-Farves than the other Farves.

Rülândéá is historically the poorest and most abused of the nations; it's safe to say the Rulandese have never had it good. Rampant crime, extreme pollution, terrible quality of life, genocide and a very long etc. The region weathered the days of anarchy much better than most other places by virtue of already being used to misery. Nowadays, the region is controlled by the Rulandese Revolutionary Army, and a fairly idiosyncratic version of libertarian socialism is currently being put in place, but it is very hard to get information from Rülândéá due to how hazardous it is to get there in the first place. They're the most well-known Farf ethnicity by far because they produce better footballers than the rest of the island combined, to the point that some of the best players in the Multiverse come from this relatively small, run-down nation. Their language is also notorious for having too many diacritics. Farves from the other ethnicities feel very insulted when it is insinuated that they, too, speak languages with an orthography filled to the brim with diacritics.

Szoirsia is essentially one huge desert with small oases of civilization. Szoirsians are used to the extreme heat and dehydration that comes with their surroundings. They resort to violence first and foremost to solve problems, perhaps even more so than the Rulandese. Szoirsians speak one of the most distinct languages of the island: Szoirsian. As a language, it seems to very transparently be a creole between two ancestral languages that no longer exist, which in turn—along with what little archaeological evidence can be found—makes the scholarly consensus be that there used to be two distinct ethnic groups in Szoirsia that, somehow, fused into one.

Tanazza is rather uninhabited, being almost exactly fifty percent jungle, fifty percent desert in terms of surface area. The inhabited parts generally lie at the edge of both biomes. Tanazzans have a notoriously hard time getting out of Tanazza because there are no roads out. The collapse of supply chains during the anarchy years hit the Tanazzans particularly hard as a result, and they are still reeling from it. They are, nonetheless, very resilient and, supposedly, very good-humored.

As a general rule, it is very hard to travel to Farfadillis. Things have gotten better recently, as some working airports have been constructed in Farolera by the Banijan and Euran relief efforts. However, travel within the country is still notoriously hazardous unless you're willing to spend a lot of money bribing the locals.

STAFF

MANAGER: Image Lele Manguele - Age 46
Silver-tongued Lele Manguele should not be here. His past is shrouded in mystery: for all we know, he was a run-of-the-mill Farf until he turned up to a Royal Rumiatzi interview one day, uninvited, and convinced them to hire him as manager. He bedazzled fans and neutrals alike with his gung-ho attacking style but eventually got sacked because he couldn't win the league to save his life. He did break the league record for most goals scored in the process, however, and nobody thinks of his stint there as a failure. He then convinced the FFFF to send a squad to the Di Bradini Cup after about two decades, and then took over as manager there. The team performed dreadfully, but Alex Terán, the FFFF's president, liked Manguele's initiative and style of play enough to hand the senior team over to him for World Cup 89. He's even been given full control, no questions asked. His first cycle was a moderate success overall, mostly owing to the FFFF's low expectations. His second was bad but he capped it off with an AOCAF Cup final appearance. His third was good, but not great. Fingers crossed for the fourth. With a penchant for the bizarre, even by Farf standards, Manguele is sure to, at least, confuse.

ASSISTANT MANAGER: Image Gylfi Haukason — Age 62
Famously bad at winning, Gylfi Haukason nonetheless has a lot of experience at the top level, having managed Savojar sides to third-place finishes consistently in the SFS, as well as the Savojar national team. The less said about that last job of his, the better. His role is to play the sane man to Manguele's insane man, provide some actual tactical know-how and be the target of frequent derision from Manguele himself.

CHIEF SCOUT: Image Lele Manguele — Age 46
He likes to work overtime, ok?

TEAM MEDIC: Image Lele Manguele — Age 46
He is not a licensed physician, but that is not going to stop him.

STARTERS

#1 — Image Rogerio Defigueroa — aGKa — Age 28 — Image Mâ Âlâmëómë ImageImageImageImageImage
Rogerio first burst onto the scene after three or four of Avenida Leal's goalkeepers hit a very rough patch of form at the same time. Aged just seventeen, he impressed, and had since mostly failed to live up to the expectations he set then... until AOCAF Cup 66, when he truly shone as Farfadillis made a somewhat unlikely run to the final. He... did not impress nearly as much in the final itself, as Farfadillis got thrashed 5-2. He's tall and has great reflexes, and is not half bad at timing his runs to come out of the box. His subsequent move to Mâ Âlâmëómë has naturally not damaged his reputation, except among Faroleran nationalists.

#6 — Image Josué Degaray — aLBa — Age 22 — Image La Nueva Avenida ImageImageImageImage
A versatile player that can play anywhere along the left flank, Josué has got the technique to become an impeccable player one day. On top of his versatility, he's extremely pacey and very nimble (though also very easy to muscle off the ball). His rise at La Nueva Avenida has been rather meteoric: he usurped Agapeto Chayra's starting spot and NT bench spot in a matter of months, despite Agapeto's five-year advantage. He has continued to impress for the S-FPL, and rumor has it Alex Terán has also forced Manguele's hand when it comes to Faroleran representation in the national team, so say hello to la Vherderoja's new starting left-back.

#2 — Image Tôsgo Türrângel — aCBa — Age 20 — Image Mâ Âlâmëómë ImageImageImageImage
A massive fucking unit, Türrâgel is perhaps best described as a train: he comes at you really fast, really hard, and you better hope he's got his tackling technique right or it will be time for a spell on the sidelines. His pace is scary for someone his size. He can jump very high, too, which makes him a menace on set pieces. The Rulandese youngster has carved a spot for himself at Mâ Âlâmëómë with his imposing physique and sly reading of the game. After last cycle's fiasco with der Efer, it is no surprise the young man has now been handed a starting spot for the National Team too. His weaknesses? Anything relating to actually having the ball at his feet. He's not bad bad, he's just way off Farfadillis-international-player level, which is honestly kind of ok for a center-back anyway.

#7 — Image Rôbé Wîjkár — aRBa — Age 22 — Image Dí Maozöxê ImageImageImageImageImage
Absurdly precocious, it is actually somewhat of a surprise that it took Manguele so long to opt for Rôbé as Farfadillis' starting right-back. What makes him good? He does not get tired. At all. Ever. He's fast and agile despite being rather tall and he's got great technique. He could potentially be retooled into, for example, a center midfielder or a right winger, if Manguele were so inclined. He really does have a very versatile skillset. For now, though, he's the NT's right-back at a time when they're not exactly a dime a dozen... which is hardly a rare occurence, mind.

#3 — Image Ígnîgo Çí Xôrí — aCMa — Age 35 — Image Mâ Âlâmëómë ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Currently, Ígnîgo is under the enormous risk of becoming the best Farf player—ever—to not have won an international trophy. His career has been long and, while inconsistent, extremely impressive. He's got astonishing technique, fantastic vision, high endurance and is quite decent defensively to boot: almost the ideal box-to-box midfielder. When he's on one of his good days, he is completely unplayable, and as of late most of his days are good days. He's capable of single-handedly grabbing a game by the throat by utterly dominating in midfield. His presence in this team is the only reason any Farf can even dream of winning the AOCAF Cup again this edition, as it's a team very much in transition, and it shows. However, age is a concern, as much as it doesn't seem to be affecting him too much yet.

#5 — Image Lêyêló Jáánsêlà — aTKa — Age 19 — Image Rülândéá Kôstä ImageImageImageImageImage
An extremely intelligent, physically imposing and completely tireless midfielder who can be a goalscoring menace if you let him slip through your radar. It's still early days, but it is very much possible that in Lêyêló la Vherderoja have the first world-class takilante since rue Cazade (and therefore the second world-class takilante period), and the first for whom it's his natural position. Aged nineteen, Lêyêló's already expected to be one of the team's most important players, as his performances at both national and international level have been getting better and better with time at a frightening pace, with no end in sight. His hot form for Rülândéá Kôstä might very well make him one of the Multiverse's hottest young prospects at the moment.

#8 — Image Jôs Sürréo — aOMa — Age 21 — Image Dí Maozöxê ImageImageImageImageImage
The next Xíxì Êns! But much worse. But also, being much worse than the best Farf player in all of history gets you a starting spot for the national team at twenty-one. He has the diminutive legend's exact frame, which makes his dribbling ability absolutely deadly. On top of that, he's also a great playmaker and excels at reading the game. Much like Xíxì, he can score too. And he's even a Dí Maozöxê youth product! He's been tasked with the role of playmaker for now, but he'll be gunning for a spot up front eventually, unless he really settles into this new position.

#4 — Image Yonatoño de la Garza — aLWa — Age 24 — Image AFC Corvistone ImageImageImageImageImage
It takes someone special to come through La Querida's youth system and somehow still manage to be a decent player. Yonatoño has managed just that, all the while being lauded as the most compassionate, friendly, admirable, gullible, dumb, thick person you could ever meet. He's very fast and he's a good crosser of the ball. A very good crosser of the ball, and Manguele is a sucker for that. He can be very one-dimensional, and he doesn't look like he could grow into a higher-dimensional player, but sometimes one dimension is enough. Especially if you're a winger and your manager is Lele Manguele. Playing well for Corvistone hasn't hurt, either.

#11 — Image Kolejes Marajis — aRWa — Age 28 — Image Gortz United ImageImageImageImageImageImage
After being played out of position for over half a decade, Kolejes is finally going to get his chance to shine in his natural position this AOCAF Cup. He's a fast, slippery and pretty technical winger who's actually quite good at crosses when he can bother to attempt them instead of trying to dribble his way into the box. His decision-making has markedly improved over the years, however, so this isn't as much of an annoyance as it might sound. He has, in the past, turned down offers to at least three massive clubs because he's too chicken shit to say no to his girlfriend, or indeed anyone. No, seriously, he's a massive scaredy-pussy. Nonetheless, a potential key player if he can find his feet.

#9 — Image Röémün Çídh — aSTa — Age 34 — Image AC Izotz Zubia ImageImageImageImageImage
The less-talented-but-slightly-taller-and-stronger-and-that's-gotta-count-for-something version of his older brother Edmün, Röémün is a very hard-working player who you'd be forgiven for thinking is not Farf at all based on his personality. His great poaching skills actually had him outscoring his more talented brother for a good while. He can be quite wasteful, but nonetheless seems to always carve out some chances for himself when no other player can. Having been relegated to the bench by Manguele, he gambled and moved to Izotz Zubia despite knowing he'd only get rotated into the squad. There, he performed well enough to force Manguele's hand and make him a starter again, moving his brother Edmün out of position, which we can only imagine left him immensely satisfied. Now that age has caught up to his brother, he's decided to add insult to injury by picking up his jersey number. Alas, age is about to catch up to him too, and this is likely his last competition defending la Vherderoja, so he'll want to make it count.

#10 — Image Vâásk Çêwé — aSTa — Age 30 — Image CA Paulinthal ImageImageImageImageImage
A true journeyman, Vâásk has played for, like, three or four different teams, which is a lot in this Multiverse. Nowadays, he's going through a purple patch of sorts, with dominant performances domestically in Nephara and especially Pasarga, where he has been absolutely unplayable. For Farfadillis he's been going from strength to strength, but his domestic performances demonstrate he can do better. Most importantly, perhaps, Çêwé brings to the table things that many players on this team don't, at least not to the same extent: grit, slyness and nudes of Lele Manguele that he uses as blackmail. If anyone's gonna get a rise out of an opposing defender, it's gonna be Vâásk.
