Northern Calania Morning Post

St. Croix football coach Kweon Joon-Ho to retire in two weeks, Hannah McKendry announced as successor

Seo Ji-Seung

JOONGYEONG - St. Croix football coach Kweon Joon-Ho is retiring at the end of the conference slate, the school said this morning. The 21st head coach of the program will depart USC after fourteen years, following an unremarkable QIS season and during a disappointing NSCF season in which questions have been asked about the program's direction. His last game will be at Schwartz Stadium in South Bend in two weeks' time.

Kweon will be replaced by special teams coordinator Hannah McKendry - who holds a decade of experience under coach Kweon and has served as a positional coach at various occasions in past. She will be presiding all the nonconference games, as well as any Bowl or, on a very unlikely chance, playoff game that the Bleu et Blanc program will play before a short offseason. St. Croix's athletic department has announced that it will hold an immediate press conference to announce the coaching transition from Kweon to McKendry tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

Kweon, has won four Tiger Bowl titles, all achieved with St. Croix as coach, in addition to three he's won as Saguenay's offensive coordinator. His overall QIS win-loss record is 183-33, making him the third winningest coach at the program. His final season with the Quebecois juggernauts has so far seen mixed results, however. At the QIS season St. Croix went 10-2 and won the RSECQ-East conference title, but their consecutive losses in the post-season fixture have drawn disappointment by the public after back-to-back losses in the conference championship game and then the Camelia Bowl to Songak Metropolitan and Mount Ester. Currently the Bleu et Blanc is 5-3 and is expected to be eliminated from playoff contention in future weeks, even with a relatively favourable out-of-conference slate of games against Panem, Cavsar and Bowerstone universities.

It is speculated that St. Croix, however, was that Kweon 'was considering other options in life', as have reported by The Mathletics, before 'he eventually snapped after a shameful loss to Crown's College, a team he has not won [before and ever], have led to fans throwing cabbages and tomatoes at the players two days ago.'

While the said rumours have not been verified by members of the Bleu et Blanc or the St. Croix athletics administration, the sudden nature of the departure and the quick replacement of him by McKendry suggests something. Athletic director Nathaniel Rowland Jr has said that he had little to no time on whether to decide if external hiring was on the line, or if an internal promotion made more so.

He eventually decided that hiring someone from the inside, especially one familiar with the academic rigours of the Joongyeong-based institution, was the way to go. 'We are not going to do it the way my predecessor had gone for when the late Errol Harrison was dismissed,' said Rowland Jr over the telephone, remembering the disastrous hirings that have coincided between Harrison and Kweon. 'This program is in a good shape, but we will have to do things differently now that we have a clear timeframe for his departure.'

Rowland Jr also added that Kweon and the athletics department, in the weeks leading up to the announcement, had discussions about his coaching future at St. Croix since last October. While Rowland Jr agreed that the question of departure had been on Kweon's mind for months, he did not expect it to happen so quickly and unexpectedly.

'He's not the one to make a shot when it comes to something like this,' said Rowland Jr. 'I have worked with him at St. Croix and other organisations, including the Gridiron Coaches' Association, but no. Not what I had expected.'

Native of Edmundston, Acadie, Kweon started his coaching career as a quarterbacks coach with Univ. du Saguenay. After a remarkable tenure as quarterback guru and offensive coordinator with both Saguenay and Northern Moravica universities, where he has coached hall of fame quarterbacks Dexter Ahn (5-time Imperial Bowl champion) and Kim Chae-Heung (NSCF 19 champions), he was hired to coach the Bleu et Blanc program that had been on its down years at the time. Both coaches, neither particularly mobile but known for their all-aroundedness, have attributed to coach Kweon for their respective success at the professional level.

While a traditionally offensive-minded coach with penchant for high-powered, pro offences, Kweon has stayed on course with St. Croix's traditional smashmouth offence. This was rumoured to factor in with the highly-publicised coaching search for their archrivals, the Fighting Irish of Univ. du Saguenay, as Kweon, arguably the most prolific of candidates available, was bypassed in favour of Yongma College head coach Clarence van Eeden Youngblood.

With himself on a clean bill of health and without troubling affairs that have troubled many coaches in the collegiate circuit, Kweon has previously experienced his desire to coach for a decade more, something that would make him the longest-tenured head coach of the program. He had taken games off, due to the passing of his brother Joon-Yeong and grandson Yohan in the past couple of years, and a spate of off-field issues by his players have left serious questions for both Kweon and the athletics department over the past five years.

Honey Badgers close interdivsion play with dominant win, virtually assured of CCG berth

Image
While at times a rollercoaster, Hankow State closed out interdivision play with their largest win of the season, beating Swisston City on the road 42-10.

While it wasn't always pretty, Hankow State concluded their interdivision schedule with a massive road win over Swisston City, 42-10. The win sees the Honey Badgers finish with a 2-2 split, beating both Kohnland schools but failing to win against either Ranorian school. Hankow State now improves to 5-2 on the year, virtually clinching the division after taking a 3 game lead over second place Summit University (2-5), only needing a win or a Summit loss over the next 3 weeks to secure their spot in the Big Eight Conference championship game. "I don't even know where to start with this team," head coach Lee Chapman said. "I'm just so stinkin' proud of how far they've come in this first season, and I never in a million years thought we would be staring down a conference championship game. We've still got to dot some i's and cross some t's, but there's a whole lot to be proud of here."

After an abysmal performance against Richardson, QB Willie Gordon bounced back in a big way, throwing for 4 touchdowns and tacking on an extra rushing touchdown on the day. Mark Dyer also got it going again on the ground, adding a rushing touchdown to the day's total. It's the most points the Hankow State offense has scored all season, perhaps showing a potential turning point for the future of the offense between this week and the Kohnhead City performance in Week 5. "The pieces are all there," QB Willie Gordon said, "and I think we finally got a chance to put them all together today. I'm feeling more comfortable each week, and I think we've got a real chance to refine and reinforce the success we've had during our second division slate and really prepare for what lies ahead."

The Honey Badger defense also got back on track, surrendering their fewest points since Week 2. DE Hector Banks had himself a game, constantly exerting pressure off the line and notching 3 sacks on the afternoon. CB Ruben Villareal also got in on the action once again, picking off a deep ball from Troy Ashton in what was a lockdown performance from the Honey Badger secondary. "It's almost a sigh of relief," DC Caleb Franks said. "It felt like we were on the ropes over these past few weeks, so it was good to get our feet back under us. We've got a ton of film from these interdivsion games that I think is really gonna serve us well in practice, and I'm hoping we'll just continue to take this momentum and run with it."

(Time remaining in quarter in parentheses.)

1st Quarter:
(9:47) Willie Gordon 17 yard pass to Leon Wyatt for a TOUCHDOWN. 7-0, HSU leads.
(2:14) Willie Gordon 12 yard scramble for a TOUCHDOWN. 14-0, HSU leads.

2nd Quarter:
(12:39) Troy Ashton 29 yard pass to Kerryon Spencer for a TOUCHDOWN. 14-7, HSU leads.
(6:05) Mark Dyer 35 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. 21-7, HSU leads.
(0:00) Larry Browne 49 yard field goal is GOOD. 21-10, HSU leads.

3rd Quarter:
(11:17) Willie Gordon 44 yard pass to Tony French for a TOUCHDOWN. 28-10, HSU leads.
(3:58) WIllie Gordon 9 yard pass to Leslie Mueller for a TOUCHDOWN. 35-10, HSU leads.

4th Quarter:
(10:30) Willie Gordon 16 yard pass to Leslie Mueller for a TOUCHDOWN. 42-10, HSU leads.

And now for a look around the league (OOC: Some Week 8 results have been released at the time of publishing. These are not accounted for in these rankings and will be factored into the next edition.):

1: Cold Hill University (7-0, last week: 1)
Cold Hill took care of business handily in interdivision play, and their focus will now turn to taking care of business to secure their spot in the conference championship game. All eyes will be on the rematch with Richardson, where the winner will likely claim the division crown.

2: Richardson University (6-1, last week: 3)
Defense, defense, defense. This team has surrendered less than 7 points per game so far, and it's been an unforgiving task trying to execute offensive gameplans against this team. We've jumped them over Felswyr for now not because Felswyr has done anything wrong, but simply because this team has been so dominant on the defensive side of the football with seemingly no answer from their opponents.

3: Felswyr State University (6-1, last week: 2)
A fairly routine home win for what has been an explosive offense so far this season (though it wasn't a super big win, all things considered). It's a tight division race in the Starlight division, and Felswyr will need to stay on their A-game to win what has been a much tougher division than their Equinox counterparts.

4: Staramara Tech University (6-1, last week: 4)
Ick; close win, but closer than it should've been for a home tilt. They go into division play with a H2H advantage over Felswyr State, but having dropped a game during interdivision (and struggling in other games), we're a bit skeptical of their ability to repeat this.

5: Constantinople University (6-1, last week: 5)
From a big day on the offensive end to a big day on the defensive end. Constantinople had to pull out the defense for what was a tough road win over Trent State, but they now gain a one game advantage plus a H2H edge in the division following U of Alexandroupolis's loss and will now look to push for the conference title game.

6: University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park (6-1, last week: 6)
U of CBP takes care of business, though they will now contend with a Green City U team that is a game back in the division standings and has been trending upwards as of late. The defense has been suspect at times, so we'll be curious to see how they perform over the final 3 weeks of conference play.

7: University of Loyola-Istria (6-1, last week: 7)
Loyola-Istria stays the course, protecting their one game lead over rival Northern Moravica. The point differential may be of some concern if Loyola is unable to take the rivalry rematch, so the team will need to step up if possible to deliver dominant performances over their other two division foes to improve their odds of securing the CCG spot.

8: Northern Moravica University (4-2, last week: 9)
But on the flip side, NMU has done a good job running up the point differential in the event that they're able to claim a split of the season series with Loyola-Istria. The defense had a nice bounce back performance after what was a disappointing showing in Week 6, so they'll now look to do what they need to do to set up their showdown with Loyola.

9: Green City University (5-2, last week: Next Up)
Taking down our #8 team, Green City is trending upwards as of late and looks to contend for the Heartland Division crown. Standing in their way: U of CBP, a team they'll need to beat to move to the conference championship game.

10: Sadeg State University (5-2, last week: 10)
Not much to write home about given the opponent, but Sadeg did still drop 50 points on the road this past week. They currently trail Staramara Tech and Felswyr State in what is a stacked Starlight Division race, but they do still have an outside shot at contending for it if they can play their cards right over these next 3 weeks.

Next Up: Hankow State University (5-2)

From here, the Honey Badgers figure to have a relatively easy path to the CCG: win and you're in. Alternatively, any loss for Summit U also secures Hankow State's spot, where they will play either Cold Hill or Richardson in what will likely be one of the toughest games of the season on the biggest stage so far. For now, the attention turns back to the division, as Hankow State takes on winless Bermia Santura on the road in what will likely be a division-clinching game for the team. "We know we're so close, but we're not about to lose focus now," RB Mark Dyer said. "We still have to manage what's in front of us, and if we do that, the future will manage itself."

Even still, fans are brimming with excitement over the potential for some silverware so early on, and the Honey Badgers will look to make good on that prospect in their rematch with Bermia Santura.

Hankow State University 2022 Schedule:
Week 1: vs. Bermia Santura W 17-10
Week 2: @ Panem University W 16-3
Week 3: @ Summit University W 15-14
Week 4: @ Cold Hill L 21-40
Week 5: vs. Kohnhead City W 33-30
Week 6: vs. Richardson University L 3-34
Week 7: @ Swisston City W 42-10
Week 8: @ Bermia Santura
Week 9: vs. Panem University
Week 10: vs. Summit University
Big Eight Conference Championship Game: TBD
Week 11: vs. Upper Westside
Week 12: vs. U of Mancodas
Week 13: @ Northern Moravica (Battle of the Golden Axe)

Youngblood, Batte Continue To Display Elite Chemistry - 7-0 Buffalo To Welcome KCU To The Tundra

Image
Kasozi Batte hasn't quite matched senior Nikolas Isaksen's production, but he's been the flashiest of this
receiving corps so far as Cold Hill remains the final unscathed team in the NSCF

If you couldn't tell by the 47-13 scoreline, Benoit Youngblood's warpath through the Evermore division concluded with another huge game for the freshman passer - he cleared 440 yards and another 4 touchdowns through the air as this receiving corps proved, as they have all season, that they can simply outclass anyone who lines up across from them. Cold Hill has now won five straight by at least two scores, blowing out all of their last four, but it's worth asking if Youngblood can keep up his incredible production against the Everless division.

In the first leg of in-division play, the Buffalo largely leaned on their defense while their first-year quarterback flashed his elite potential early, only scoring more than 20 twice and never exceeding 23.

"He went from taking a year off between high school and college to playing the best division in the sport," said Chris Dale when asked, "He still led us to an undefeated record, and Benoit's really taken strides now with his performances against the Evermore division. Our upcoming game against Kohnhead City will be a huge test of his development so far."

It's a bit much to call a guy who's thrown for 20 touchdown passes in seven games "developing", but it should also put the rest of the NSCF on notice - if Chris Dale, who's coached his fair share of elite quarterbacks - thinks that Youngblood hasn't hit his ceiling as the leader of the last unblemished team in the NSCF, then all eyes should be on this Buffalo team. But he hasn't done it on his own - in a rather shocking turn of events, Cold Hill boasts the second best defense in the NSCF this season.

They've conceded just 90 points at 12.9 per game - given how soft the starting eleven looks on paper, it's worth asking how the hell that happened. After losing a host of players like Candace Ferrett, Victoria Mio, and Koman Tabor over the past couple seasons, the only players who've given standout performances on this defense have been Kenneth Bray, Eden Park, Derek Pierce, and more than any of them, Proko.

Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers, the half-Drawkian freakshow at strong safety, has been nothing short of a terror for offensive coordinators and quarterbacks alike. From posting four sacks and interceptions to this point to leading the team in tackles with 71, he's the centerpiece of a defense that carried the load through the team's first three games this season and hasn't slacked off since. Some have even asked what was the root of a sudden pass rush ability - while he certainly has the length, Proko was only used on more conventional safety blitzes in the past. Now, Chris Dale has lined him up on the edge opposite Kenneth Bray on 13% of his snaps this season to devastating effect. "He mentioned something to me this offseason, that during his time in World Bowl 44 he'd gotten some pass rush tips from Leo Cross," Chris Dale rolled his eyes at the cameras, "So we put him in some 1-on-1 pass rushes in camp and he flashed. It's working."

Indeed, the Grid Corps backup was also the key to their gameplan against Kohnhead City, coming into the box in the red zone and having the vaunted Mighty Eagles rushing attack spinning their tires. There's just not much he can't do. His range and length back deep make him a game-breaker against the deep ball, he's got just enough pass-rush savvy to let his athleticism wreak havoc there, and he's an absolute force in the run game.

After his dominant performance against them in the season opener, it'll be a treat to see if the Mighty Eagles can gameplan around a guy who, on a team full of freaks, can make a case as the best of them. Our guess? He's going to continue to play all over the field, and they'll never be able to get a bead on him for long.

Governors Pitch Third Shutout In Four Games, Run Bermia State Off The Field

ImageTakeuchi Ichiko celebrating briefly after taking the second Bermia State pass of the game back for six

The 6-1 Governors are tied for the second best record in the NSCF. They boast a defense that's allowed three points in the last month and 46 overall, and sport the best point differential in college football. They are now 18-3 overall under head coach Kasen Harrowitz, and as they come back to the Everless division, they have their eyes set on one matchup - week 10, when the only blemish on their record, Cold Hill is welcomed with open arms to Dietrich Stadium.

That 13-3 loss in the Tundra was a tough one for this program to take, with their offense stalling out hard after having so much firepower last season. But with a true freshman quarterback, not every game is going to be a 40-burger. This team wants to run the ball on offense and control the pace of the game so that their defense can take over - it's worked like a charm in 6 of their contests so far. Safety Totte Lindberg and cornerback Takeuchi Ichiko have been stellar on the back end with now six combined interceptions. Most college teams are lucky if they've got one guy who can really cover. The Governors' having two guys who can do so at an elite level is a game-changer on defense. And their front four?

Kasper Ulvestad is the guy off the edge - he's racked up 5.5 sacks now in their seven contests to lead the team, as he did last season. His speed is the kind of thing you can't teach, but other players have stepped up in absence of Gideon Kearse. Shean Eckert, a freshman out of Delaclava, has flashed plenty, earning 3 sacks now on the campaign while mostly serving as a situational pass rusher, and Malchiel "The Banijan Beast" Lukwiya has made sure everyone knows that he has arrived. After flashing his talents as a freshman, he's the alpha dog now in the middle of this defense, routinely demanding and defeating double teams. At 315 pounds, he was asked to take on a bigger role with the loss of a generational talent in Kearse, and he's done just that. There are playmakers at every level of this defense - can they continue their dominant performances long enough to earn a conference championship berth? Odds are it will take their winning out and defeating Cold Hill University in week 10 - all eyes are on that conference-slate finale mark.

The Misadventures of Rylan Rodgers
Tidbit 1: What am I supposed to do with this?

Some may find it a bit of an odd sight - a young couple on a park bench on Richardson University grounds, one with a baby snow bear and one with an actual baby. For Rylan Rodgers Jr, he thought it a bit odd that his date had brought a baby, but when she explained that since he was bringing "his baby" she decided to bring hers.

Given he was a student-athlete with little time for such luxuries, he relented and accepted it, even if Klaw the snow bear wasn't really a baby. They'd made mostly small talk, but he thought he could sense a bit of chemistry between them...until she checked her watch.

"Hey, I'm sorry," she offered an apologetic smile, "I need to use the restroom, can you hold Freya for a minute?"

Rylan looked down at the baby with some mixture of fear and confusion - he didn't know what to do with something that small! Then he looked back into those deep, brown eyes that had caught his attention in the first place and melted. "Yeah, sure. How do I..."

"Here," she giggled, and his heart skipped a beat while she put her sleeping baby in his arms. "I'll be right back!" She offered.

It didn't occur to Rylan until about fifteen minutes later that the nearest restrooms were in the other direction. And twenty two minutes later, he started to worry - they still had a team meeting on their "off" day, and he had to get to it. He tried calling the girl, no dice. Shot her a text, wrote it off and kept waiting.

And waiting.

And waiting.

About an hour and a half later...

At this point, he was walking in circles under the shade of a tree, trying to keep baby Freya from crying too badly - at least he had the wherewithal not to bounce her. His arms were hurting, since he didn't exactly know how to hold a baby and wasn't about to adjust his grip for fear of causing irreparable damage. "No, I'm not gonna make it to the meeting! This girl just dumped her baby on me!"

He cringed as he got the reply, but then his eyes went a little wide and he stopped walking.

"Call the police? Excellent idea!" Freya began squalling the second he stopped walking, and he picked up the pace again. "Thanks coach! I'll be in touch!"

With some the kind of maneuvering that you could only expect out of a top-level scholarship athlete, Rylan got his phone down to his hand and dialed a number that any Ranorian knew to punch in since childhood. "Hey, yeah, I've got this baby here..."

Rylan couldn't help but feel some vindication - the police had been incredibly helpful, with CPS in tow as well, and had found his quarry within ten minutes of arrival. They'd thrown him in the back of a car (figuratively, anyway) and drove the running back and baby Freya to a coffee shop that wasn't even a half mile from the park.

Rylan stepped out and leaned on the side of the car - watching as the police brought baby Freya back to her mother, who was sitting in the lap of some other guy in a coffee shop - evidently she'd been using him as a babysitter for her real date. Freya squealed in delight when returned to her mother and this time, it was her mother's turn to cry. Rylan offered a pearly-tooth grin and wave as the second guy quickly excused himself, with Klaw the baby snow bear nibbling on his adopted father's dreadlocks in the meantime.

Today was a good day.

Completing 8-0 Stretch, Chromatik Schools Turn Attention Back to Drawkian Enemies

The new format of having two divisions per conference was supposed to introduce a slate of cross-conference games where you could test one division's strength against another.

Instead, what the Chromatik and Drawkian schools of the Starlight Division did was downright murder. Going 15-1 (thanks a lot, Cavsar), they proved that thye're the division to beat, with all four schools having records over .500 and the Chromatik schools on top.

Now? After the Lava barely survived the Royals' charge late and the Firehawks handled the Beach Eagles with ease, they return to in-Division play. Staramara will host the Gladiators of Cavsar, while Felswyr State heads to Sadeg State for what is going to be the Skyhawks' bona fide last gasp at the title.

"They're going to be rearing to go and punch us in the mouth," stated Naia Curentino when asked about the trip to Drawkland, "It's going to be a challenge to knock them out and make this a two-horse race. We will be staying in Drawkland between the matches, and want to be heading to our regular season finale against the Lava on a high."

Both the Skyhawks and the Firehawks have had similar offenses and defenses, with Felswyr State conceding twelve less points and scoring ten more; they still remain the best school in Drawkland, despite the loss to the Gladiators in rivalry week, just like how the Firehawks dropped the match against the Lava.

As for Staramara Tech, they'll be hpoing that their recent struggles defensively won't persist; the ground-and-pound is working in terms of scoring plenty of points, but they've struggled a bit on the opposing end.

"We know what's coming," promised Head coach Laverna Getz, "We are going to get the best of Felswyr State, and we need to be ready for it."

First off, they'll try to defend their home turf against both Drawkian schools at Johnston Memorial.

Feathercaps host Warriors in must win situation
by Teresa Bramlage, College Football Writer

University of the Commonwealth will close out MinCon road play when they face Trent State at Sherwood Field, where a victory for the Warriors will leave the Heartland Division race down to only UC and Green City, who will meet in Belle Haven.

UC rebounded from their first loss on the season with a 39-10 victory over University of Waterloo and lead Green City by a game in the division; QB Neal Antonelli had a pair of passing touchdowns and one on the ground as the Warriors racked up 512 yards of offense.

Trent State come into the contest at 3-4 after a 13-6 loss at home to Constantinople, and the NSCF 25 runner-up will need to find a way to beat UC for the fourth time in the series if they want to have any chance to have a non-losing regular season record.

Anything written only represents the character, not the user behind Banija nor the views of Banijans in general. Accordingly, this is the furthest thing from an unbiased source of information you'll find about the NSCF.

The Coulibaly Corner: Your one stop shop for everything college football!

Hey guys! Welcome back to my corner of the internet for everything college football! I, of course, usually cover the NSCF, especially the two Banijan schools, as well as domestic college football here in Banija. I'm a University of Moravica grad- aka, we don't like either of the Banijan schools. But of course, due to physical proximity, they get the Lion's share of this blog's attention.

Right now, Loyola-Istria sits at 6-1, while Northern Moravica sit at 5-2. They have a potentially mouthwatering, winner-take-all, matchup for the divisional championship in week 10 in Herzegovina City- IF both teams can win out until. Loyola-Istria's next two games are at home, against Elephant Valley, and then against Ratzupalfu. Northern Moravica's got a much tougher slate- away, on a short week, to the Jungledrom in week 8(a place where neither Banijan team has ever won a game), followed by a difficult trip to Elephant Valley, in week 9, in a rivalry game.

We all know about that. But there's another thing looming, right after conference championship week, that'll interest a number of the fans of the Banijan schools. .And what's that? Shortly after the end of conference play- the newly found Big 8 v. Celestia Challenge. And it makes you think- what exactly goes into scheduling? How the hell did they decide to pull this off?

So after speaking to stakeholders(we have actual access!), we'd like to bring you our newest feature- the art of NSCF scheduling.

The art scienceof creating a NSCF schedule

Step 1- Times for conference games

So, at the beginning of each NSCF season, when the HQ releases your 10 game conference schedule, the first thing the schools have to do is look at the schedule, figure it out, and then, figure out times. "Each of Banija's two schools deals with things differently." Said an insider with knowledge at Loyola-Istria. "But, generally, Matong Sports and Banijan Public TV split the rights. Banijan Public TV gets all the away games for both schools, while Matong Sports get all the home games for both schools- in even years. In odd years, that reverses."

So from there, you schedule times for conference games. "Nothing's an exact science here for the conference schedule." Said the same source from the Loyola-Istria Athletic Department. "But there are a few parameters that we try to hit. The first? Both North v. South Showdown contests are always night games, no matter at what point they are played at in the season. The second? They try to get each team exactly one more night game on a Saturday, either home or away. And last, each team will get a night game on a Friday, which is always away- because of the size of our stadiums(each over 90,000), neither campus can handle a weekday contest, even on a campus."

"So that's approximately 4 night games per team. The rest, they try to ensure that Loyola-Istria or NMU are not playing in the same time slot in any of the weeks they are not playing each other- although, of course, that is not something that is always avoidable. Northern Moravica hit all those targets- both national rivalry games are at 8:00 PM. And then, in weeks 8 and 9, they'll hit their night games- a week 8 Friday night trip to the Jungledrom, a week 9 Saturday night rivalry game against Elephant Valley. Loyola-Istria only has 3, with its only non-NMU night game their week 2 Friday night trip to the Jungledrom.

"While you can't succeed everywhere, the key this season is that there are no scheduling clashes- not once do NMU or Loyola-Istria play in the same TV time slot. Although they'd love Loyola in an extra conference night game slot, they'll live."

Step 2: Find Non-Conference Opponents

The next thing that a school must do is find non-conference opponents. Loyola-Istria is contracted with two opponents every year- Felswyr State in Week 12, and Richardson University in week 13. These annual rivalries happen opposite each other- meaning FSU comes to Istria in years when Loyola goes to Ranoria. Of course, that last rivalry is traditionally at a neutral site- although the last two years it was on campus. So traditionally, that leaves Loyola simply looking for a week 11 opponent every year. "We try to play 6 home games a year here at Loyola." Said the school's AD. "If we go to Felswyr, we look for an opponent to bring to campus. If Felswyr comes here? Then we look for an opponent who wants to host us."

Considering Loyola's history and traveling fanbase, usually that is not too difficult a task. Northern Moravica, is decidedly in a different flavor. They did recently contract with Woodstock to play them every year- but Woodstock is now in the Celestia, so that is moot. Their only fixed opponent is Staramara Tech, also in week 12. So this year, with Hankow State's return to the NSCF, they are bringing an old rival back to town for week 13. "Look, that is a historic rivalry for us, the battle for the golden axe." Said AD Horace Browning. "Once we saw that opportunity, that was absolutely a priority for us. I'm glad we will have a chance to even the all-time series." Northern Moravica, currently, is 2-3 all-time against Hankow State.

And what about week 11? That leads to... The Big 8 v. Celestia Challenge

Step 2A: The Big 8 v. Celestia Challenge? What?

With week 11 coming up, this big thing is happening very, very soon. It is what it sounds like- the four long-term members of the Celestia, against the four long-term members of the Big 8. The four Banijan and South Newlandian schools on one side, and the four Kohnhead and Ranorian schools on the other. "It sounded like a great way to generate excitement among our fans, and give our games even greater importance." Said Elephant Valley's Athletic Director. "A battle for conference supremacy engages fans, and it's a great way to find quality opponents that will help our schedule. Why the heck not?"

Loyola-Istria AD Patrick Zervos went further on the idea. "Look, it's a fantastic collaboration of Athletic Departments working together to make new, fun things happen. There's a lot of things to iron out when you've got 8 athletic departments, especially when some of us already pair off in week 13. We've gotta figure out fair scheduling, opponents, etc... And yet, this all ran smoothly. It's gonna get us fantastic competition, with Kohnhead City's first ever regular season trip to to the Istria Lightning Yard. How long have they been in this competition, and it's never happened?"

Richardson's AD was short and concise. "We’re excited for the opportunity this brings to our student athletes…and to prove that we’re the best conference in football."

Horace Browning of NMU was also short and concise. "Why does Loyola get all the trips to Ranoria? We're going to deliver the best games to student-athletes and fans... And when we go 3-1, unfortunately because Loyola's in the conference, this will be proven." Always throwing shade, eh?

But yes- Big 8 v. Celestia. A huge battle for conference supremacy. Winning conference gets bragging rights, and more importantly, high-quality non-conference wins to show off to the Playoff Committee, since at least 6 of those teams(and possibly all 8!) will be chasing non-automatic playoff berths. Who won't enjoy it?

Step 3: Times for non-conference games

And this, is the easiest part of this whole thing. Only need times for 6 games. There's only one sacred cow here- Loyola v. Richardson is at 8 PM in week 13. "Everything else is built off of this, for Banijan broadcasters." Said a source at the NMU Athletic Department. "For the non-conference games, they work even harder to make sure NMU and Loyola aren't playing at the same time, but even that is always guaranteed."

Despite neither team having a Noon kickoff, they manage to avoid each other this year. Northern Moravica's road game against Cold Hill, on Big 8 v. Celestia challenge day, will be at 8 PM, while weeks 12 and 13 will be in the mid afternoon time slot- 4 PM and 3:30, respectively. Loyola-Istria, on the other hand, will host KCU at 3:30 on challenge day, but then in week 12, will play Felswyr State at 7:30, and then their trip to Ranoria City will be at 8 PM.

There you have it! All the secrets behind scheduling.

Dr. Heo and the Portal of Madness

PART 3 - Meltdown

In the middle of May, right in the tail-end of a short Quebecois springtime that would see most people and their animals come out for a windy, flower-filled sojourn outdoors, a train between Joongyeong and Bel-Havre just departed the former city at a slow speed. It was a particularly pleasant evening for those heading out east with no pest and little humidity in the air. The sight of the ‘Eternal City of Lights’ glowing up, one building after another, at eight in the evening has no doubt drawn the passengers to look out from their window.

Most of the passengers at tonight’s thrice-weekly express were either the Inteachanians heading home after lengthy business at the nation’s capital or the vacationing Joongyeongites who had beachside properties at the island, held jobs in white-collar or creative sectors and thus could afford to take time off this early in the year. The compartments, while all sold out a solid week in advance, were not always filled with people, as the passengers, who would almost never share their compartment with somebody else, not their family, would bring many bags, boxes and luggage cases as needed. More often than not they included delicate objects or fresh produce that required additional QNR staff, for the lack of an airport in the Bel-Havre area had required the existence of a train ferry, one of the reasons why the QNR still provided a now-rare service under heavy government subsidy.

When the ten-carriage set left Joongyeong at last, two passengers in the lounge found themselves opposite each other. They looked alike, even if their relative age would suggest something else, both were dressed in full tailcoats that were better suited for Joongyeongite court than a train to Bel-Havre, and both of them were trying to figure out how to start a conversation.

If Dr. Heo and a lookalike of his were trying to figure out how to start such, even with their natural temptation to fall into the latest of ideas out there, they would have wondered how the sheer coincidence had hit them. The older of two men continued to age fairly quickly even during his sabbatical year, with his dark hair coming close to bald, and his brown eyes changing colour. The past decade of grandparenthood, with four grandchildren growing fairly quickly at this point in time, had managed to bless him with a newfound craft of growing a light moustache and beard. In them, he found a pleasure on his own, something that no doubt helped lighten up his facial features that have etched a particularly strong impression on anybody in his twenties. His tailcoat was old, for he had it tailored when Jacques IX had required a then-postdoctoral fellow’s audience around 40 years ago, and desperately required repairs that he never got around to due to his public commitments. He hated displaying his achievements, with many of them coming from being at the right place in the right time, and wore a short ribbon bar on the left side of his chest.

The younger man was also a nicely-dressed fellow, of about twenty-five to twenty-six years of age, who was around the same height as Dr. Heo at 5-foot-11. His eyes were befit with the same pair of black, circular glasses, but besides that his face gave off a warmer, more rounded impression for the younger man did not grow a beard or a moustache out of personal convenience’s sake. He wore a lighter, more recent brand of tailcoats that have been trending on Joongyeongite circles of late for utility’s sake, but somehow neutered its advantages by wearing dozens of service bars that indicated his service on this land. He wore a blue tie made of fabric not seen on this part of Anaia, and left his hair relatively unrefined, his appearance looking non-Quebecois at the very least.

The elder man inspected the gentleman’s unusual features, from the rows of medals he had never seen before to the way he had worn out his tailcoat. The youth nowadays, wearing the clothes as if they were frequenting the PlayToy Mansion or the brothels of the Champ-de-Mars! thought Dr. Heo, who raised his eyebrows a couple of times in a personal remark that smelled more of judgment than misconstrued assumption.

If this were any other man in his twenties he would ignore the said individual without haste, perhaps moving onto the dining car and grabbing a dinner before heading back to his first-class compartment. In this case, however, the long-standing temptation would win out and Dr. Heo could no longer hold himself. He asked in the Joongyeongite Korean: ‘Those medals, no doubt, look very colourful. Mind if I ask where do these ribbons come from, young man?’

The young man jumped from staring mindlessly into the void placed at his carriage window. ‘Those medals, good sir?’ he replied. ‘It’s a long story, one that may take one thousand and one nights to be told.’

Fortunately for them, they were the only ones in this lounge car. ‘I see.’ answered Dr. Heo as he cleared his throat, seemingly not realising that the stranger did not exactly appreciate his behaviour. ‘I assume they go back to your ancestors? They don’t look any bit Quebecois or Shingoryeoite, but no foreigner would really bring their medals, let alone bars, to a rail ferry to Bel-Havre.’

‘You could put it that way, perhaps,’ the stranger nodded. ‘I am no Juan Tzimisces and none of my ancestors is, but you could probably figure out from the way I talk, or the way I say things here, that I am not a Quebecois.’

‘Makes sense, if anything.’ answered Dr. Heo, his face expressing genuine interest in the man’s identity. ‘Silly of me to be surprised about those coming from the farther reaches of the world. We, after all, live in the world where Lacfroidois live just down the road from the Gesemites, the abnormalities occur across the Huayramarcan mountains, a Bonesean professor continues to propagate confusionism, and the Drawkian technologies have started to establish themselves outside Sonnel! Nothing feels normal, though they may never have been normal anyway-’ He said, accidentally saying things that he, in a normal situation, would not have said it.

Unfortunately for Dr. Heo, showing such curiosity of his would often lead to him ending up in odd situations, and this was of no exception. ‘Is it true that you have managed to find a way to send the first Quebecois in fifty years to Delte Valley and Taxhavn?’ The stranger asked while showing off a slight smile.
‘That is true, but-’

Before he would cut off, the stranger raised his left index finger to suggest that he’s heard all that he needed to know for the sake of narrative intersection. With the train continuing to travel at 100km/hr speed, he said slowly in a deep voice: ‘Good. So it was you.’

That’s all he said as Dr. Heo froze for a second. The stranger then rolled his neck twice to the counter-clock direction, his neck snapping a couple of times to suggest how stiff they have been in recent weeks of a job search on his side of ‘the wall’. ‘It is often said that I, while neither a Tzimisces nor a Bua, have the ability to sweep through the landscape and bestow awards and other honours at will. Some take those chances but at a cost, while others, those usually more humble, refuse only to be rewarded for their other, more deserving, deeds. Are you aware of any greater figure like that here, Professor Heo Dong-Soo, Jacques IX Professor of Comparative Literature and History at the Seongyoongwan University College itself?’ he asked.

Dr. Heo fell silent for a second, trying his best to think about it. Through the fast-passing sceneries of the Joongyeongite suburbs, he could see that he did not have much time to answer for other voyagers were going to start entering the carriage at any minute, either to rest for a little while or to head to the dining car about two carriages away from it.
But then, buying time from this stranger did not appear to be a particularly wise idea either, especially with how he had caught on the accidental slips so quickly and efficiently so. Not a normal being, or even a human, thought Dr. Heo as he moved closer to the stranger. Understandably so - we do not discount such possibilities when talking about the ways of this country.

‘Not to this degree no, but I have indeed taught the very woman of your interest from an earlier question,’ Dr. Heo answered in a whisper that seemed more like a mumble. ‘She was a human and not a deity though, no matter how strong her abilities were.’

The stranger’s eyes closed shut and he nodded: ‘That is correct, unlike many of those unaware of the role the Quebecois Crowns seem to think about it. The crown does not, and should not, pretend to be divine, no matter how urgent they have to be. The institution itself is only the messenger between the people and the actual deities, which number in around three thousand or even more. Of course most are known to some degree, though there would always be those even more obscure, yet active, who thrive more as an eminence grise or a helper-friend...’

Wait, came another flash as Dr. Heo fixed his glasses in surprise and asked: ‘How do you know all this by any chance?’

‘You will find out sooner than later, Professor Heo,’ answered the stranger. ‘That you are wrong to refuse to answering a deity when he asks you something, or to assume that there is just one of you out there.’

The next moment the stranger disappeared, leaving behind a void.

NSFB-CF: And Then There Was One

Postby TJUN-ia » Tue Sep 27, 2022 6:29 am

Homecoming was a split, as we ended our series against the teams of New Gesem with a 1-1 split and a 3-1 overall series in favour of NGS. Now, both of our schools returned to MinDiv play looking to try and catch up to the 1-loss leaders...but how did that go this time.

The Trent State Feathercaps lost to Constantinople by 7 points last week, a Homecoming defensive showdown that just didn't go Johnny Bridgeford's way. He knew that the UCBP Warriors were going to go hell for leather to try and make this Division a two-horse race, but he didn't want to go down without a fight and this game was certainly a fucking fight. This was another defensive showdown and one that would see Eleonora "Firefeet" Scafakou shine with 3 FGs. But those damn Warriors are certainly clutch and they would manage the only TD of the game, with Neal Antonelli finding Bonaventure Igueikibe for the score, while Landon Korman managed a PAT and FG to win this game 10-9. For TSU, they are now battling for a bowl birth...simple as that.

Meanwhile, across the stable, the Green City Royal Eagles were certainly of the opinion that they would be the last hope TJUN-ia had of overturning UCBP...and that's exactly what Paul Abdullahi would've hoped for. All eyes were now on this team to carry the flag that TSU could not and this was certainly felt here, on the road against the Gairuwa Parmawakhs of Arjunnagaar. The hosts managed 14 points today, with 2 TDs and 2 PATs giving some hope to this 1-win program, but GCU just about did what they needed to do in order to come out on top. Moses Igbinoghene would manage 3 TDs, twice to Gilbert Nyamutsamba and once to Lucky Sithole-Sita, with Sithole-Sita also catching a 2-point conversion while Glory Oparanozie managed 2/2 on PATs/ The 22-14 win moved the team to 6-2 and now, officially, they are the last team left that can unseat the Warriors in the MinDiv.

It will be a big weekend next week, as the undercard of TSU vs Gairuwa is supplemented by a MinDiv Showdown as GCU travels to Jacob F Gleason Field with everything on the line. If UCBP wins, they win the MinDiv. If GCU wins, everything goes to the final day. Simply put, in order to keep fighting, the Royal Eagles have to keep winning. Fate is still in their hands...for now.

The Coulibaly Corner: Your one stop shop for everything college football!

Hey guys! Welcome back to my corner of the internet for everything college football. We're 8 games into the season!

There are 2 games left in conference play. Northern Moravica has finally ended the Banijan NSCF struggles at the Jungledrom, with a wild 23-20 win over the Ratzupalfu University of Nature. Field goals galore. Dwayne Markseon, a NMU team captain as a kicker, just absolutely killing the games with his leg. It had it all. A trick play touchdown. Blocked punt return for a touchdown. A pick six. Markseon calling game with a 55 yard field goal, on the road on a Friday night, as time expired. That kept NMU alive in the race for the Savannah Division title- their road rivalry game against Elephant Valley(a team that they've beaten 7 times, and never lost to) is a must win to set up a winner-take-all game for the Savannah Division title in week 10, at home, against ULI.

And Loyola-Istria, perhaps surprisingly, won a barnstormer of a contest against Elephant Valley University. With their coach on the hot seat, the Red Elephants did everything they could to try and get a huge road win, one that might have been enough to save Coach Uster's job at the end of this season. They went for 2 twice after touchdowns- and converted both times. But they simply could not bury the Blue Thunder, as Loyola-Istria was able to down them in dramatic fashion, and improve to 7-1.

But today, we're not going to talk about either of those games. It's around time when various leagues are starting to recruit senior athletes, and potentially junior athletes, to enter their respective drafts. Let's take a look, shall we?

School Trackers

Northern Moravica
Declared for a professional Draft
HB Jebel Marenah(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.
LT Ôskâr dí Rívânká(FFD). Senior. GFLB.
CB Jahaziah Otiende(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.
SS Yakuba Saidykhan(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.

Eligible but undeclared
WR Jannik Nadine(RAN). Junior.
LG Wandy Sene(BNJ). Senior.
C Jacob Engelhaft(RAN). Senior.
MLB Klaus Achterberg(GEIS). Senior.
CB Ole Bakker(VAL). Senior.

It is interesting here! There are, of course, other junior starters who are not listed on here, even though they are draft eligible- but dudes like Felix Ström and Karl Sande are already confirmed to be returning to school next year. What jumps out at you here? What's interesting here, is the amount of senior starters, who obviously are not going to come back to college, but haven't filed for the GFLB draft. We've got four starters, who might go to another draft- particularly and specifically, the RFL draft. Wandy Sene is the top Banijan prospect to be considering the RFL for now, but obviously, we've got a Ranorian center there, a star Vanorian CB, and a Geisenfried MLB.

The most interesting question here, of course, will be Jannik Nadine. He's a stud WR who really could be drafted high, in either Ranoria or the GFLB. But look- he's got a good thing going at NMU. And think about his competitiveness. Both years he's been here, while he's played in a NSCF Final and have four playoff wins, he hasn't won the big one. No conference titles(yet), no NSCF titles. Think he'd want another crack at a title, especially if NMU fail to win either of those things this year? Sounds like he probably would.

Loyola-Istria
Declared for Professional Draft
DT Suntukung Mendy(BNJ). Senior. GFLB .
EDGE Oliechi Okombo(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.
CB Kato Sentido(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.
SS Calamus Orombi(BNJ). Senior. GFLB.

Eligible but undeclared
TE Russell Farmer(RAN). Senior.
WR Faraba Condeh(BNJ). Senior.
RG Ned Dott(CMT). Senior.
MLB Najee Isidora(RAN). Junior.

Now this is the more interesting set of players to deal with, at least from a Banijan perspective. Particularly, the 4 major undecideds left. The grand prize, of course, since Russell Farmer. Quite possibly the greatest TE the competition has seen since his older brother, Johnny, was playing for Richardson, all signs point to a return home for the prized prospect. "Dude's a crazy weapon, and his brother did so much in the RFL." Said a Banijan TV analyst. "It would make sense, after spending four years abroad, to come back home. HE'll have years with the Krauts, years in the RFL, but we'll see."

But he hasn't filed paperwork anywhere yet- and there's a chance. "It's not over until the fat lady sings, and the GFLB will recruit Russell Farmer hard." Said another Banijan TV analyst. "This is the thing about this sport- the GFLB, with recent expansion, has made player recruitment a priority, and somebody like Russell Farmer will be a grand prize." Beyond that, you've got Ned Dott of Chromatika, whose play style seems to lean towards the RFL, but we'll see. Interestingly enough, Faraba Condeh, Loyola's WR1, is also available.

"Condeh's draft stock has skyrocketed as he has grown into the role of a true WR1 his senior year- although, obviously, Russell Farmer is the #1 pass catcher on that team." The same analyst told reporters. "You'd think he'd stay home- but rumor has it that his interest in the RFL is legitimate. He's talked about how he wants an adventure away from home, as he grew up in Istria, and then went to school in his local city. Dude wasn't a crazy highly sought after recruit- but his development while at the school was crazy. Seems like his preference would be the RFL, if possible for him."

And then the last very interesting case, is Najee Isidora. "He's a three year starter at middle linebacker, and a team captain." Said this same TV analyst. "A starter from day 1 on defense. He's got two conference titles, he beat Richardson, what more could he want? Well, it's a stain on his reputation that Loyola-Istria hasn't won a singular playoff game since NSCF 21. If he goes pro, to the RFL he goes nearly certainly, but whether or not he goes pro early might be reliant on how Loyola-Istria finishes the year. If he feels like he's accomplished everything? He'll go pro. But if the season ends in a way where he's got a nasty taste in his mouth? Then he'll come back, in a similar vein to Abram Fairbanks, to finish the job."

Blue Thunder football Brief: Four touchdown passes by Vavayavich stave off Elephant Valley upset bid at the Istria Lightning Yard

ISTRIA, MORAVICA- Loyola-Istria played their second of three consecutive conference home games, by inviting Elephant Valley University to the Istria Lightning Yard. Elephant Valley went balls to the wall trying to get the win, with the pressure mounting on Coach Uster as his team remain behind in a tough Celestia conference in ye year 4. Despite a pair of successful two point conversions, and two successful fourth down conversions in the first half, Loyola-Istria's offense was simply too dominant in the second half for the Red Elephants.

Vavayavich was her usual dealing self for the Blue Thunder, leading 5 scoring drives in the second half, including 3 touchdown passes, to erase the 22-10 lead that the Red Elephants had built at halftime. "Look- the Celestia is the toughest, and deepest, league in the NSCF." Said the head coach, Dennis Zervos. "Teams like EVU, even when they're struggling- they can beat anybody on any day. They came out here, to our house, and hit us straight in the mouth to start the game. But we are ensuring that this brand of Blue Thunder football are known for their toughness, especially mentally, and we came back and responded well." Four different players caught touchdown passes. The Blue Thunder defense stepped up as well, with a pair of fourth quarter interceptions to seal the game.

Loyola-Istria WINS 37-30

NMU Brief- Northern Moravica finally unlock the Jungledrom, as Dwayne Markseon delivers the team's first win away against Ratzupalfu

SOUTH NEWLANDIA- It's always a tough trip to the Jungledrom, and this one was no different. The first half was a low-scoring half, with Jebel Marenah scoring the only TD, as NMU took a slim 10-6 lead into halftime. But then, RUoN turned everything on its head in the 3rd quarter, by blocking a punt and returning that for a TD, as well as a trick play touchdown pass thrown by a WR, that NMU simply did not see coming. Suddenly, entering the fourth quarter, the Cougars were down by 10 in what was turning out to be a wild game.

The Cougars struggled to come back. They came down the field, and on 4th and goal from the 2, Lance Kabuye made the uncharacteristic decision to kick a field goal from the 2, to make it a one score game. And then, a few minutes later, the defense would step up. A massive interception by free safety Malcolm Shelvin, down 7, on a 3rd and long, turned the game. As he was about to be brougth down, he pitched the ball back to Ole Bakker, the team's CB1. The Vanorian had the presence of mind to catch the pitch, and run it all the way back for the game-tying touchdown.

This game had seen a pick six, Lance Kabuye kicking a field goal from the 2, and a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. Oh yeah- and a 44 yard TD pass by a receiver. But on the game's final drive, Kabuye entrusted the game to the arm of Vanorian QB Felix Ström, and the man delivered. The Cougars got all the way down to the 37. Once again, they called upon Dwayne Markseon with the game on the line. And once again, the Chromatik kicker came through, blasting through a 54 yard field goal, as time expired, for the Cougars to win the game- and keep themselves alive in the race for not only the Savannah Division, but the Celestia Conference as well.

Game played at the Jungledrom. Sellout crowd.

First Quarter
03:44 RUoN FG- RUoN K Kevin Hao hits 34 yard field goal. (3-0 RUoN)

Second Quarter
13:11 NMU TD- NMU HB Jebel Marenah 1 yard TOUCHDOWN run. PAT is good (3-7 NMU)
05:11 NMU FG- NMU K Dwayne Markseon hits 48 yard field goal. (3-10 NMU)
00:00 RUoN FG- RUoN K Kevin Hao hits 48 yard field goal as time expires in half (6-10 NMU)

HALFTIME SCORE- Ratzupalfu 6, Northern Moravica 10

Third Quarter
12:50 EVU TD- NMU P Wanyanga Nyaoro has punt BLOCKED by RUoN MLB Max Wagner, scooped up by RUoN CB Gabriel Roberts and returned 17 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. PAT is good (13-10 RUoN)
01:56 EVU TD- RUoN WR Jeremy Jefferson throws 44 yard TOUCHDOWN pass on trick play to WR Nicole Irvine. PAT is good (20-10 RUoN)

Fourth Quarter
12:01 NMU FG- NMU K Dwayne Markseon hits 19 yard field goal. PAT is good (20-13 RUoN)
07:54 RUoN INT/NMU TD- RUoN Tye Stark pass is INTERCEPTED by FS Malcolm Shelvin, who laterals the ball to CB Ole Bakker, who runs the ball 47 yards for a TOUCHDOWN. PAT is good (20-20)
00:00 NMU FG- NMU K Dwayne Markseon hits 54 yard field goal as time expires. (20-23 NMU)

Diamond Conference Championship Game

Tears of the Revolution High School 23–23 Pelar High School (26–23 OT)

MVP: Tears of the Revolution High School Senior Middle Linebacker Irina Jones (11 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown)

Summary: It takes overtime, but with Jones getting a sack on Pelar Quarterback Reeva Karlston that forces a fumble, the Saints are able to tack on a Field Goal and escape. By now, some credit has to go to Sophomore Quarterback Andrew Wiggins, who played mistake-free football and had a touchdown to go along with it.

Pearl Conference Championship Game

Jerome A. Samuelson High School 19–10 North Sanar High School

MVP: Jerome A. Samuelson Senior Quarterback Anderson Joseph, Jr. (18 of 25, 201 yards, 1 touchdown)

Summary: A defensive game sees plenty of punts from both sides, but Anderson Joseph, Jr. finds Tiffany Morales in a slant route, and Brenna Howarth kicks four field goals through. It's a shame for the Riflemen, who had a shot but couldn't cash it in - despite Mark Waddle turning up for three sacks.

Rainbow District Championship Game

Tears of the Revolution High School Saints vs. Jerome A. Samuelson High School Mimes @ Hawks' Nest, Lanar, Rainbow District

The Saints are where the Mimes were last season - a surprise contender trying to reach the National Quarterfinals. It's still the Mimes and Anderson Joseph, Jr. that will have a decent advantage, but the Saints and Jones will be ready for a firefight.

Mining Guild Conference Championship Game

Mt. Niar High School 21–17 Randan High School

MVP: Mt. Niar High School Senior Quarterback Viktor Rowles (27 of 32, 381 yards, 3 touchdowns)

Summary: Randan came to play, and hung around for three quarters, but the play of Rowles, Ittachi, and Holmes was too much for the Rapiers at the end. The Anacondas remain one of the favorites to contend for the title once again, as Rowles is in his prime and hunting for that tile.

Snowy Fields Conference Championship Game

Brisara Trade School 16–46 Umbar Hills High School

MVP: Umbar Hills High School Senior Tight End Jackson DeLittle (13 catches, 187 yards, 3 touchdowns)

Summary: It took so long, but the Grizzlies have started to really ramp up, and Ewan Pyrehamix has found a trustworthy target in one Jackson DeLittle. The Senior Tight End helped with three touchdowns, the defense held as Beatrice Hak added fourteen tackles and two forced turnovers, and the Grizzlies ran away with the game.

Mountain District Championship Game

Mt. Niar High School Anacondas vs. Umbar Hills High School Grizzlies @ The Frozen Stadium, Felswyr, Mountain District

The Anacondas are back, and this time, it's the upstart Grizzlies standing in their way. Ewan Pyrehamix will have his hands full going up against the likes of Viktor Rowles, while Jackson DeLittle will be going up against Liara Gin. It would be a disaster if the Anacondas were to lose here - and it's not expected that they will.

Breadbasket Conference Championship Game

East Shantarr High School 30–12 West Shantarr High School

MVP: East Shantarr High School Senior Running Back Benjamin Marik (23 carries, 183 yards, 3 touchdowns)

Summary: With Benjamin Marik running roughshod all over the West Shantarr defense, 101 yards coming after contact, the Order handled the Scorpions with ease to reign over the conference, having held them to twleve points. Rea Atera concludes a stellar career, while Francine Weiler will be back; the Order, despite having a Freshman Quarterback in Daemon Argonaut, will be in the District Title Game.

Dairy Conference Championship Game

City of Lorentine High School 23–32 Crix Technical High School

MVP: Crix Technical High School Senior Outside Linebacker Asmodel Propleier (13 tackles, 2 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown)

Summary: After barely making it to the Conference Title Game, Propleier and the Chameleons return to the District Title Game. Jack Niles contributed two touchdowns, Propleier had an 81 yard interception return, and though the Wizards tried to make it interesting near the end, it wasn't nearly enough to turn it around. Welcome to one of the craziest Champions to ever make it to the District Championship game.

Heartland District Championship Game

East Shantarr High School Order vs. Crix Technical High School Chameleons @ Riders' Arena, Pùr, Heartland District

Benjamin Merik vs. Asmodel Propleier - as the Chameleons try to return to the National Playoffs, while the Order try to do the same for the very first time. Daemon Argonaut is just a Freshman - can he handle the pressure? Can the existence of Merik steady him? Or will Propleier shut down Merik and company? A fascinating matchup.

Wildlife Conference Championship Game

Pride Academy 22–32 East Rhoni HIgh School

MVP: East Rhoni High School Junior Quarterback Evan Jerome (28 of 34, 328 yards, 4 touchdowns)

Summary: Didn't we see this a week ago? The Kayaks continue their dominance of the Cyclones, with Jerome throwing for four scores, Sophomore Wide Receiver Peter Langloif continuing his stellar play as well. What a shame for the Cyclones, who had nine wins - to go out after losing two in a row to the Kayaks. They're hot, aren't they?

Aqua Conference Championship Game

J. H. Yadasky High School 43–13 Coastal Academy of the Arts

MVP: J. H. Yadasky High School Junior Running Back Isaiah Candy (21 carries, 214 yards, 4 touchdowns)

Summary: The Heroes have made it! This time, Isaiah Candy runs for almost ten yards per carry to get 214 yards and four touchdowns as the Sculptures are run to the ground. They control the line of scrimmage, they control the clock, and it's pretty much over by the middle of the second quarter. What a dominating win.

Coastal District Championship Game

East Rhoni High School Kayaks vs. J. H. Yadasky High School Heroes @ The Cove, Lhor, Coastal District

An expected pairing according to the preseason polls, but both the Kayaks and the Heroes had to overcome adversity to get here. The Kayaks, led by Evan Jerome, is flying high after back-to-back wins over the Cyclones that led to their victory. The Heroes have had Isaiah Candy help Cade Stases win, so it'll be a battle to see which team can write their names in the history books.

Myana Conference Championship Game

Myana Northwestern High School 37–6 Anchors Academy

MVP: Myana Northwestern High School Sophomore Quarterback Nicole Estera (24 of 29, 291 yards, 4 touchdowns)

Summary: With the defense doing what it usually does, and Estera working well in tandem with Ebincott, Hallow, and Cho, the Blue and White make short work of the Victors. The Blue and White continue on their way toward a possible two-peat - and there is no reason to bet against them yet.

Island Conference Championship Game

Academy of the Jungle 33–27 Bouveil Historical School

MVP: Academy of the Jungle Senior Quarterback Eza Danielson (17 of 24, 221 yards, 3 touchdowns)

Summary: The Cats simply will not be denied - Eza Danielson is on point with Madison Jones, Samuel Hodges' bid fall short, and the Cats win this conference for the first time in many years. It's about time Danielson came around - the offense has been really humming in the last few games - and it's the high-octane, big-play possibility side of the offense that makes them a threat.

Myana Island Championship Game

Myana Northwestern High School Blue and White vs. Academy of the Jungle Cats

A high flying offense against a robust defense - a tale as old as time. The Blue and White have the personnel to contend with Danielson and Jones, at least on paper, while Nicole Estera has taken a step in this season that should prove to be the difference. Is there a chance that the Cats can upset the defending champions? Yes. However, is it likely? Absolutely not.

Emerald Conference Championship Game

Staramara Tech High School 27–14 Tor High School

MVP: Staramara Tech High School Junior Running Back Davis Pill (18 carries, 152 yards, 2 touchdowns)

Summary: With Pill controlling the clock, the Shooting Stars only get the ball for about 19 minutes, and the Battle Angels make short work of their opposition, not allowing a touchdown until the Fourth Quarter. Sophomore Quarterback Mattieu Hancock didn't lose the game, and may do just enough to carry the team forward, perhaps?

Silver Conference Championship Game

Southern Urrheddiao High School 16–9 Tihon Elite Academy

MVP: Southern Urrheddiao High School Senior Quarterback Bernice Draymond (11 of 14, 191 yards, 10 carries, 91 yards, 1 rushing touchdown)

Summary: It's a brutal, defensive game, but in the middle of the Third Quarter, Bernice Draymond pounds the ball in from five yards out, and that's that. Tihon Elite Academy did all they can - but Cad Filox and Kendra Hicks isn't enough of a pairing to engineer a tying drive, and the Gold - the weirdest team to get here - makes it to the District Championship game.

Urrhed Island Championship Game

Staramara Tech High School Battle Angels vs. Southern Urrheddiao High School Gold @ The United Center, Urrheddiao, Urrhed Island

The Battle Angels against the unlikeliest of Conference Champions. Can the Gold really pull it off? Bernice Draymond is a one-woman army, but surely, not good enough to take down one of the schools that could become a premier program in the country? Davis Pill will lead he ground attack, Mattieu Hancock will bide his time, and Romeo Carl, who had been contained by the Fog Wall, will hope to bounce back.

Revolution Conference Championship Game

Vitoron School of Charge 33–16 East Omnio High School

MVP: Vitoron School of Charge Junior Quarterback Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu (22 of 32, 239 yards, 4 touchdowns)

Summary: They had their rough stretch of form, but Onwuatuegwu and the Robots return once more to the District Title Game - she and her slew of Senior Wide Receivers coming through. East Omnio had a much better year - Lance Ott and the duo of Jill Maksile and Merrill Lyle wasn't enough to hang around the Robots.

Grandmaster Conference

Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted 17–16 Hanai Central High School

MVP: Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted Senior Strong Safety Peter Rundstead (9 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 2 interceptions, 1 defensive touchdown)

Summary: Hanai Central Quarterback Mikayla Anne almost pulls it off - leading the team to a six-point lead with four minutes left - but on a routine screen pass to Willie Fogg is intercepted by Peter Rundstead, who runs it all the way back for the deciding score that the Masterminds hold onto for dear life. What a way to lose the game.

Capital District East Championship Game

Vitoron School of Charge Robots vs. Wirr Tsi School for the Gifted Masterminds @ The Shock, Wirr Tsi, Capital District

Kuma Sandt. Uriah Anyar. Matthias Drakk. Three Senior Wide Receivers for Onwuatuegwu to find, and the four of them are the reason why they will get past the Masterminds. Peter Rundstead is a heck of a player, yes, but he's just one player - and Onwuatuegwu has way too many weapons. This is the last year that she'll have the trio of glorious receivers, meaning this is the season that they have to win it all.

Chromia Conference Championship Game

The Chromatik Institute 30–17 South Chromia High School

MVP: The Chromatik Institute Junior Outside Linebacker Carmen Dior (9 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown)

Summary: The trio of Sophomores cash in with scores - Raul Sébastien Santos throw Touchdowns to both Jacqueline Fofo and Lenny Rhimes - and Carmen Dior has a field day against the Terror, holding Senior Quarterback Mark Hansoff to barely over two hundred yards. Yes, it's thirteen points, but this game wasn't particularly close.

Black & White Conference Championship Game

Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School 19–3 Kynxe High School

MVP: Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Senior Outside Linebacker Jasmine Bust (7 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble)

Summary: Honestly, the Martyrs don't need their defense to play well; Junior Quarterback Noah Sellers often does enough. However, when Jasmine Bust plays so well - three sacks against the Monsoon is something else, indeed - it's easy going. Yes, they only scored nineteen points, but they only needed nineteen points. What a team.

Capital District West Championship Game

The Chromatik Institute Dread vs. Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Martyrs @ Chromatik City Field, Chromia, Capital District

The Martyrs and the District title game - name a better duo. Sellers returns with Kraut, Silverman, and Pam - facing the Sophomore trio. Welcome to the big leagues, Chromatik Institute.

Honey Badgers keep rolling, secure Big Eight title shot

Image
Hankow State is Big Eight Conference Championship bound, securing their place in a dominant 44-14 road victory over Bermia Santura.

The wait is over: Hankow State finally secured the Evermore division and a spot in the Big Eight conference championship game, clinching both after a 44-14 victory over Bermia Santura. The team kept firing on all cylinders this week, controlling the game from start to finish in a result that was never in doubt. "There's very little to be upset about," head coach Lee Chapman said. "I think those losses only served to strengthen our resolve, and I think we're gonna go into these next few weeks with a lot of confidence about our brand of football."

Willie Gordon looked as comfortable under center as he has all season, turning in a solid 5 passing TD performance against a Bermia Santura secondary that simply had no answer all day. "It's great just having the freedom to air the ball out in this offense," Gordon said. "I'm getting more and more accustomed to these receivers, and I don't see anywhere to go from here but up." Indeed, the Honey Badgers turned in an offensive performance that set a new season high in points, racking up 44 over the course of the game.

The defense seems to have returned to form, but one main question remains: how much does opponent quality play into this? Within the division, Hankow State has given up only 10.3 PPG; out of the division, they're surrendered a much larger 28.5 PPG. When asked about the discrepancy, DC Caleb Franks said, "Certainly, we've had a much easier go of it in our division than outside of it. That said, we're getting ample opportunity for our defense to execute as it needs to against easier opponents so they can know exactly what that looks like when we get back to playing the tougher teams. Is that gonna make us complacent? I don't think so; these guys got a taste of what losing is like, and I don't think they're too keen to revisit the feeling.

(Time remaining in quarter in parentheses.)

1st Quarter:
(11:41) Willie Gordon 17 yard pass to Leon Wyatt for a TOUCHDOWN. 7-0, HSU leads.
(7:09) Lewis Love 41 yard field goal is GOOD. 10-0, HSU leads.
(3:11) Willie Gordon 9 yard pass to Mark Dyer for a TOUCHDOWN. 17-0, HSU leads.

2nd Quarter:
(8:33) Bermia Santura RB 4 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. 17-7, HSU leads.
(4:54) Willie Gordon 47 yard pass to Leon Wyatt for a TOUCHDOWN. 24-7, HSU leads.
(0:00) Lewis Love 53 yard field goal is GOOD. 27-7, HSU leads.

3rd Quarter:
(10:30) Willie Gordon 16 yard pass to Tony French for a TOUCHDOWN. 34-7, HSU leads.
(2:17) Bermia Santura RB 2 yard run for a TOUCHDOWN. 34-14, HSU leads.

4th Quarter:
(8:49) Lewis Love 39 yard field goal is GOOD. 37-14, HSU leads.
(1:17) Willie Gordon 5 yard pass to Leslie Mueller for a TOUCHDOWN. 44-14, HSU leads.

And now for a look around the league (OOC: Some Week 9 results have been released at the time of publishing. These are not accounted for in these rankings and will be factored into the next edition.):

1: Cold Hill University (8-0, last week: 1)
Cold Hill keeps rocking and rolling, defending the only remaining undefeated record in the NSCF. They are almost certainly on track for a rematch with Hankow State in the Big Eight CCG following Richardson's surprise loss, and a win there would likely cement their #1 status before out of conference play.

2: Staramara Tech University (7-1, last week: 4)
Staramara inches forward in the war of attrition in the Starlight division following Sadeg State's upset over Felswyr State. If they can find a way to secure this division over the next two weeks, Staramara will very likely be Horizon conference champs when they match up against the winner of a much weaker Equinox division.

3: Constantinople University (7-1, last week: 5)
A little bit of attrition here to get them to this spot, but Constantinople pitched a smooth 27-0 shutout on the road and could very well be on their way to the Mineral CCG. The defense has been the shining star of this team, and if they keep it up, Constantinople will be pesky to deal with.

4: University of Loyola-Istria (7-1, last week: 7)
A close win, but not for a lack of offense. Indeed, the offense continues to rattle off points at a ridiculous pace, but the defense is going to have to show up just enough to protect the lead (which it has been able to do for the most part so far, but it's led to some close games in the process).

5: University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park (7-1, last week: 6)
Hmm. A win is a win, but only a 10-9 win over a Trent State team with a losing record? It doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but they got the job done, whch is more than a lot of other top teams from last week could say. They hold a slim lead, but the Green City rematch could pose issues if they don't fix some of the problems from this past game.

6: Richardson University (6-2, last week: 2)
A tough road loss for Richardson in OT sees them drop a bit. The vaunted Richardson defense finally got exposed (if 22 points can be called exposed) as Swisston may have laid out a blueprint for teams looking to get through this defense and find offensive success. It's a setback for Richardson that may doom their division chances, but they'll still certainly pose a threat in OOC play and (presumably) the playoffs.

7: Sadeg State University (6-2, last week: 10)
A nice home win over last week's #3 team sees Sadeg State officially enter the Starlight division conversation in earnest, as any of the 3 teams can certainly find a way to win it (though Staramara starts out with a one game advantage). This division is going to come down to the wire, but Sadeg State took a good first step while defending home turf.

8: Felswyr State University (6-2, last week: 3)
Continuing our Starlight focus, Felswyr took a bit of a setback in the division race, which will now likely necessitate a win over Staramara to have any shot at the division title. Even if it doesn't come to pass, this offense has been dangerous all season and will certainly pose issues for opposing defenses heading into OOC play.

9: Northern Moravica University (6-2, last week: 8)
We're not sure what to make of this team. They got a road win, but it was likely closer than it should have been against a middling Ratzupalfu team, and it underscores the boom-bust nature of this team. When they're firing on all cylinders, they're tough to beat; if they get shut down, they may never get up to speed. Building consistency will be key over these next few weeks for NMU.

10: Green City University (6-2, last week: 9)
Green City will be the main threat to U of CBP in the Heartland division race, keeping pace and maintaining a one game gap between the two teams. It could come down to point differential in the end, so margin will be critical for the team going forward.

Next Up: Hankow State University (6-2)

Hankow State looks to coast to the finish with the division title in hand, as both remaining division foes have proven little in the way of resistance over the course of the season. "We're just gonna do what we need to do to handle our business," RB Mark Dyer said. "We've finished step one, but the job's not done yet. We're gonna do what we need to do to bolster our resume and get ready for the conference championship game, and as such, every game counts, no matter how big or small the fans may view it."

Hankow State will begin their final homestand of the regular season, hosting Panem University after taking them down in a 16-3 road victory back in Week 2. The matchup figures to be favorable for the Honey Badgers, as they'll look to expand their division lead and improve to 7-2 in the affair.

Hankow State University 2022 Schedule:
Week 1: vs. Bermia Santura W 17-10
Week 2: @ Panem University W 16-3
Week 3: @ Summit University W 15-14

After starting the twenty-seventh edition of the NSCF as the very definition of "you win some, you lose some", the Upper Westside University Red Pandas became one of the biggest shockers of the entire tournament, racking up a four-game winning streak which included a 17-point demolition of the Elephant Valley University Red Elephants in a battle of scarlet animal supremacy, and following that up with a thrilling comeback and overtime victory against the Cougars of Northern Moravica University. Their latest two victories were noteworthy as well, first a 7-nil stoppage of the Ratzupalfu University of Nature Egrets at their home field, something no Banijan team has done up to that point in time, and then a much more explosive 47-26 victory to sweep their series against the Woodstock University Climbers and assure themselves of the top spot in the Sequoia Division.

4Q UWU Hall 86 pass from St. Roger (Ingberg kick) UWU 7-0
That's it. That's the only scoring play of the match against the Egrets, and it came at the very last play of the very last quarter. Neither offense could get things going for the rest of the game, making for a snoozefest worthy of the Ko-oren Dragonflies, but surely those who actually fell asleep at the Jungledrom were awoken by the screams of the UWU faithful as Tyron Hall finally broke the deadlock with an amazing catch on a desperation hail mary pass by Adrian St. Roger.

The Red Pandas wrap up their conference schedule with two home games, first against the Joe Gibbs University Cyclones side that beat them 30-20 in Matchday 2, and then the University of Alcuta Skyhawks they were able to defeat 32-12 in Matchday 3. Then it's the conference championship game, which UWU staff has decided will either be a whiteout or a red storm, depending on the seeding. Finally there's the three non-conference matchups, and after that, either the bowl games or the playoffs. "Still a lot of gridiron to be played," UWU head coach Fabio Forelli said. "We're riding on a hot streak right now, but we gotta keep it going if we're to have a shot at greater glory."

NSCF 27 Weekly Roundup: University of Mancodas aims for divisional title; hopes to end group stage with 7 wins
Combined report by Sporting Daily Sports Team

Mancodas - University of Mancodas (UoM) took home a 36–9 against Abanhfleft's Ceneisis Naval Academy, putting them in prime spot for the battle for divisional champions.

The Mammoths started off strong, racing to a 21-0 lead at the start of the game with 3 field goals and 2 touchdowns. Though the Engsigns managed to take 1 touchdown, it was the Mammoths who continued to dominate the game and clinch a big win to put themselves 2 wins ahead of the Engsigns. Head coach Livia Smit was full praise of his charges, especially with center Kodey Flanagon, who has slowly but surely emerged as the first choice center over compatriot Adami. The fourth-year literature student was absolutely powerful today, playing an extremely pivotal role in all 4 touchdowns that the Mammoths scored today.

On other hand, the Maximus Rochester Institute (MRI) hopes to derail UoM's winning streak by beating them at home against the Mammoths. The Week 10 fixture, which will also act as the second match of the annual Kimibatoam Bowl, will be a chance for MRI to end their regular season on a high ahead of the out of conference fixtures. While UoM has confirmed a full slate of teams, MRI hasn't been as successful in their search for teams, and currently has Match 3 vacant. But MRI has a possibility of finishing 2nd in the division should they replicate the Matchday 8 result for Matchday 9, with a trip to Abanhfleft to play the Engsigns. Defensive co-coach for MRI Lewys Ryder is confident that the team's defence will be able to replicate the performance that they did away at the Ensigns.

There is a saying, that among the various electoral systems out there, the proportional representation system is one of the fairer electoral systems out there. "With a decent-sized threshold," so the political experts say, "it would likely prevent a one-party dominance and create a more balanced Council". If this is the first time you are reading up about Poafmersian politics, then take a look at the results in Piskn and Tikahs, and then go back to the statement above again. "[P]revent a one-party dominance". No, we didn't make a mistake in our vote counts. Yes, you are right, Kibi Party took more than 13 times Congress Party's vote in Tikahs, and 23 times of Congress Party in Piskn.

For both states, they are the most ridiculous of Kibi Party strongholds ever, returning Kibi Party a supermajority at every poll since the 2064 elections. That is an 7 election streak, which is very likely to extend into the 8th election given current trends. For Kibi Party to not take a majority in either state, you have to really go all the way back to the 2034 elections, the first time the nation adopted proportional representation across both the state Council and the Ridimag elections. That election, Kibi Party took 40% in Piskn and 36% in Tikahs. But the similarity between Piskn and Tikahs ends there. Both states differ largely in terms of size. Both states are economy contributors in different methods. Piskn is a tourism hub with its amusement parks and beautiful beaches; Tikahs is home to the finance industry, the casinos, as well as the convention centres. Piskn is the smallest state by population. Tikahs is the second largest (whether Hitimatias is larger than Tikahs, or the other way round, is a big question, but both states have returned similar number of voting slips at the polls for the past 18 years. Given that Poafmersia has no official system of recording population at a state-level, Poafmers typically put both states as joint-2nd, behind Cochas.) state by population.

Probably the only explanation for the party's dominance in both states have to do with how President Pikashru Nisharian (, his father, and his grandfather) have turned around the fortunes of both states. His grandfather started off with Tikahs, proposing to develop other states in the state such as Sarim and Najari. His father converted Piskn as the other tourism hub of Poafmersia, attempting (successfully, in fact) to let visitors see a different side of Poafmersia, different from the heritage feel that Dalaris brings. It was Pikashru Nisharian who declared that the Trimidau hawker culture should be on the Poafmersian Heritage List, the first intangible item on the list. It was also Pikashru Nisharian who brought the MICE industry to Sarim, setting up the first MICE hub in the region. President Nisharian is also well remembered for starting the no-car policy, removing cars from the road of Trimidau Island and Fiskadaha City. Trimidau Island has a substantial native population, yet don't feature cars. That is probably rare among more urbanised nations. As political analysts put it, "the Nisharian family literally created utopia in Poafmersia".

Of course, economic and environment aside, both states are probably the biggest benefits of the Kibi Party's more socialist side. Especially Tikahs. In many capitalist societies, Tikahs would probably have very large income inequalities, with disparity between the rural poor, and the urban rich working in the big companies in the finance sector. That disparity is really small in Tikahs, with a Gini coefficient of 1.12 per a recent survey in 2110. It was a difficult bullet to bite at first, with economists warning that such progressive taxes would deter investors from investing in the country. But Kibi Party went ahead with really progressive taxes, and instead offered tax rebates for any investment back into the society. That plan worked out better than expected, as investors became more motivated to contribute to reduce their own taxes. Things like the Poafmersian start-up culture, and the Poafmersian medical system, are all probably 100% funded by the richer Poafmers' raw cash (and not through the distribution of government revenue). Though the coefficient is slowly creeping up, many people agree that the Kibi Party has successfully kept it relatively low, and this is why they continue to vote for the Kibi Party at polls. Other parties haven't been able to break the large barriers that the Kibi Party has set-up - while it may work in other states, most Poafmers in these 2 states continue to recognise the Kibi Party's policies as the way forward. At least for now.

No Stopping This Train:
Proko Puts Away The Mighty Eagles To Make It A 2-Game Lead In The Everless

Image
It was an electric back-and-forth affair in the Tundra, but the Buffalo pulled away late on the back of their lead man

For fifty eight minutes and seven seconds of this game, neither team was able to take more than a one score lead in what was a game dominated by superstars. Rowenna Hastroff, the backbone of this Mighty Eagles team, scored twice apiece through the air and on the ground, including an opening drive dart to Blitz Taurus - although Proko blocking the kick may have put a wrench in their plans early. The Chromatik senior quarterback looked absolutely unstoppable, hitting on more than 80% of her throws and averaging more than 6 yards per carry as a top-heavy Buffalo defense looked absolutely hapless.

Fortunately, she wasn't the only star on Saturday night - Benoit Youngblood matched the Mighty Eagles' scoring blow-for-blow, flashing some savvy maneuvering behind a suspect offensive line as he dropped dimes over defenders' heads all night to the tune of 433 passing yards and four passing touchdowns - with a couple field goals courtesy of always-reliable Bo-Ah Jang, the Buffalo were driving with the game tied at 30 all with time running out - once again, Benoit Youngblood was at his best when the lights were brightest. In a game-winning scenario, he dropped back, shrugged off a blitzing Greg Mcloud (who had himself a strong day with 2 pass break ups) before stepping up and launching the ball to his senior superstar.

Nikolas Isaksen isn't loud, but me makes noise on the field - the man who broke Cold Hill's single-game receiving record as a sophomore was the one to snag the game winning touchdown pass with just three minutes left on the clock, absolutely mossing poor Kristen Werther, who's had a strong season but was completely outmatched against a jump-ball specialist.

But that left it up to the Buffalo defense - against a quarterback who had absolutely torn them to ribbons all night. Hastroff looked strong as she made her way down the field, picking up a pair of first downs with her leg to briefly stop the clock, but eventually their no-huddle offense caused her to miss a read - a very, very big one.

Hastroff made a one step drop, turned, and fired the ball to her receiver, only for Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers to catch it in stride on his way down the field - he'd been closing in for the hit, but this might just be better. No one could change direction quickly enough to get within fifteen yards of the defensive weapon, who raised a fist to the night sky of the Tundra and charged through the end zone, howling to match the roars of the Cold Hill faithful and the trumpets of their fight song - at 6-0, Cold Hill had been the last of the undefeated teams in the NSCF, and still here they sat at the pinnacle early on. With such a loaded roster, is this finally the year they break Ranoria's playoff curse?

Between Richardson and Cold Hill, the teams have won just one playoff game since Deondre Rhine's NSCF 22 championship win despite at least one entering the playoffs as a Big 8 champion each season. With a legitimate superstar on defense to hold that side of the ball accountable and a beyond-loaded room on offense...this could just be the team to turn our fortune around.

Brandon Newall was a mathematics student at Cavsar University. That was a little like saying you were the lead dishwasher at a rural rest stop diner, but Brandon took his craft seriously. In one of his statistics courses, the professor assigned each student in the class a semester-long project at the beginning of the year. Brandon was tasked with tracking a current event and periodically polling his fellow students or nearby Cavsar residents on their opinion regarding the matter.

First and foremost, Brandon enjoyed watching football when he wasn't studying for classes or doing homework. He was a big fan of Gladiators football, and when he received the assignment in his statistics class, something popped into his mind as soon as he got home and turned on the TV. With the beginning of NSCF action only weeks away, there was one burning question on the minds of Cavsar fans everywhere. Who should be the starting quarterback for the Gladiators?

Brandon immediately got to work setting up his idea and finding a way to tally votes. The season was going to be starting very soon, and he was going to be getting people's opinions every week until the NSCF season concluded. The week before the opening weekend, Brandon polled students across campus directly with a table in the quad, as well as posting flyers in tons of sports bars and rec centers near campus. Each person who took the survey had four options: the new transfer from Cold Hill, Robin Sterling; the Dagan recruit now in his junior year, Darian Lewis; the unproven novatim Logan Oakley; as well as a "can't decide" option. Outside the main choice, Brandon also asked for more detailed discourse if the survey taker wished to elaborate on their selection.

PRESEASON: Robin Sterling 35%, Darian Lewis 31%, Logan Oakley 6%, Can't Decide 28%

After losing Lane Proudfoot, few knew what to think going into this season. Darian Lewis had the experience with the Gladiator offense, but he had never shown flashes of true greatness. It was
no secret that Cavsar's fortunes turned for the better last season once Proudfoot was firmly at the helm and Lewis firmly on the bench. Robin Sterling was once a highly sought-after recruit who went to one of the best colleges in the best football nations, before being cast aside. His physical abilities are there, but there's many questions as to if he could actually perform at a high enough level to bring Cavsar back to the promised land. It's clear nobody wants the new kid to see snaps just yet, and many are still stuck on whether to trust Lewis or Sterling.

Robin Sterling received the Week 1 start due to his better resume of play, having started for pretty much an entire season against a tough Big 8 slate. He responded by laying flat and getting run over by Staramara Tech in the home opener. He was only responsible for one touchdown, a pretty ten-yard pass in the second quarter to Crawford Reid. Besides that, he couldn't muster up more than pitiful field goal drives. Cavsar is pretty aggressive with fourth down calls in field goal range, so the fact that the Gladiators picked up so many field goals is testament to Sterling taking big sacks and throwing consecutive incompletions to leave Cavsar stranded with 4th & Long situations.

WEEK 1: Robin Sterling 24%, Darian Lewis 46%, Logan Oakley 7%, Can't Decide 23%

Sterling's Week 1 performance was mid at best, and it's clear that nobody wants to see that level of futility again. A lot can be blamed on the defense for the 20-37 loss to Staramara Tech, but Cavsar had some excellent offensive performances last season and a similar level of production is nowhere to be found. Most fans seemed willing to give Sterling a try, but if he can't win the important games against Starlight Division teams, he can't be fit to take snaps all season. It seems Scott Linhart will be keeping Sterling in for Week 2, regardless.

Sterling made Coach Linhart look like a fool. Sure, Felswyr State were the class of the NSCF, but he couldn't even lead Cavsar to a single touchdown all game. Miles Taggart is no Mike Banks, but he's a decent workhorse. Against the Firehawk defensive front, though, Sterling looked lost. He passed for a dismal 13/32, and again, no scores. There is no way he was going to stick around after that.

WEEK 2: Robin Sterling 13%, Darian Lewis 62%, Logan Oakley 9%, Can't Decide 16%

A lot of the doubts held by Cavsar fans were erased following the Week 2 game against Felswyr State. Unfortunately, these doubts were replaced with outright rejection. Sterling had an awful performance at Felswyr, and now fans are hearkening back to Lewis's best games last season as a reminder than sometimes he can really ball out. Plus, Lewis should be hungry to get revenge against Sadeg State since he nearly beat them last year. This could be the best time for Lewis to finally prove he deserves the starting job.

On the road in Sadeg is never an easy ask. The Skyhawk fanbase was growing every day, and Gridiron Park was always packed for the rivalry game against Cavsar. Darian Lewis had fallen at home to the Skyhawks last season, but this time he really was out for blood. To be fair, Taggart did a lot of the hard work, beating Sadeg State with the ground-and-pound. Lewis did have his moments, though, outdueling Anderson Fox while having a less impressive receiving core than his Skyhawk counterpart. In an eerie echo to the overtime scoreline Proudfoot beat State by last season, Lewis threw a late touchdown to Daniel Beckett to win 23-30.

WEEK 3: Robin Sterling 9%, Darian Lewis 71%, Logan Oakley 8%, Can't Decide 12%

It's amazing how quickly minds can be changed. Lewis's performance in Sadeg was legendary, and an excellent way to grab momentum going into the cross-divisional slate. It seems that Lewis is the consensus starter, both by fan's preference and Linhart's comments this week. However, the Gladiators are now in a tight spot. Both Chromatik schools have a one game lead, and Cavsar is tied with Sadeg State on wins. All the Starlight teams are expected to roll over the Equinox Division, so a loss in the next month could possibly spell disaster for Lewis's hopes to remain in the starting job. From what I gathered, many support Lewis at QB right now, but they still aren't totally convinced.

Week 4's matchup was against Kynᶒqurnstka Surona University, the only winless team remaining in the conference. Lewis didn't have to do much as the Cavsar lines won the battle in the trenches, and the Cavsar running back room ran wild all game. Still, he had some good passes from play-action and made the long conversions when necessary through the course of the game. 47-13 is nothing to sniff at, even against the worst team in the conference.

WEEK 4: Robin Sterling 8%, Darian Lewis 76%, Logan Oakley 7%, Can't Decide 9%

Lewis wasn't really the reason Cavsar dismantled the Beach Eagles this week, but he did what he needed to do to secure the win. Again, most Cavsar fans seem to view these next three games as easily winnable. Winning is the expectation, losing is unacceptable, and winning big isn't going to be that impressive. Lewis went up in the poll regardless, so some fans were comforted by the fact that the win against the Skyhawks wasn't just a one-game fluke.

Week 5 was yet another big win, though this one was by a mere 19 points to Silverleaf University. Despite the Equinox Division being less than stellar, Silverleaf was undefeated through the first three games, clearly the best in the division. A win here, easily piloted by Lewis, was another notch of goodwill among the fanbase. With the Starlight Division being the only one 8-0 against their opposing division (every other conference division had suffered at least one loss), the words "sweep" were coming to mind. Even among the fierce rivals in the Starlight, sweeping the Equinox would be a source of pride for all of them.

WEEK 5: Robin Sterling 8%, Darian Lewis 79%, Logan Oakley 6%, Can't Decide 7%

The opinions are more of the same following the first road win against the Equinox Division. Darian Lewis has been doing what little he's been asked. The defense and running game are doing most of the work, and Lewis is reaping the benefits. There's a lot more confidence among fans now, more are believing that he is the best option for starter long-term, not just for the coming weeks.

Then, it all came crashing down. Lewis and the Gladiators went down early against Juvencus's Imperial University of Pomena. The Royals scored on their first possession, and then a pick six by Lewis gave them a quick 14-point lead. From there, the running game was ineffective at controlling the game, and Lewis made too many bad decisions leading to turnovers and stalled drives. He simply didn't have the ability to pull Cavsar out of the early deficit, and paid the price. The #StarlightSweep was no more, and almost all the blame could be put on the shoulders of Darian Lewis.

WEEK 6: Robin Sterling 28%, Darian Lewis 29%, Logan Oakley 10%, Can't Decide 33%

Now this week has been the most controversial of any week so far this season. Lewis was looking to be a good option for Cavsar, but his embarrassing clunker against Pomena was seen by everyone - ESPECIALLY since it ruined the potential of a full division sweep. All they had to do is put him down by two scores and Lewis couldn't recover. It should be noted that although the Week 3 matchup against Sadeg State was a close game that Lewis won in the clutch, the Gladiators never trailed over the course of the game. Every game Lewis has started this season, he never trailed, until this one against Pomena, and he crumbled under the pressure. Even with the goodwill bought from victory in Sadeg, that's not the kind of play that inspires fans to stay by your side. The decision is cloudier now more than ever, and many don't even know how Coach Linhart will lean for the last cross-divisional game.

It turns out that Linhart would turn the reins back over to Sterling for the final Equinox matchup. After all, it seemed kind of rude to chuck the kid into a fire against Staramara Tech and Felswyr State to start his season in a new system. Maybe against an easier opponent, he could prosper, especially since the rest of the offense was itching to make up for their humiliating loss against Pomena the week before. Cavsar proceeded to score an entire 69 points against Golden Oak University, and though the defense was porous and allowed 42 points, the offense was humming along and the final result was never in doubt. Sterling himself was responsible for three passing touchdowns, by far his best performance in a Gladiator uniform. This is what Cavsar fans were hoping to see when he first suited up.

WEEK 7: Robin Sterling 47%, Darian Lewis 21%, Logan Oakley 12%, Can't Decide 20%

Again, it's surprising to see the speed at which Cavsar fans have changed their minds on QBs this season. Sterling had an excellent game against Golden Oaks, his best thus far, and this has turned around public opinion in a big way for him. Week 1 and 2 were over a month ago now, and most fans can't really recall how much of the blame belongs on Sterling for those first tow losses. Maybe he just needed a good game against a weaker team to get his feet wet. Whatever the case, it'll be do-or-die time for Sterling in the away leg against Staramara Tech next week. Can he redeem himself fully?

In short, Sterling did not redeem himself whatsoever. The first game against Staramara Tech had been ugly, but this one was an absolute bloodbath. The Lava poured on 52 points against the hapless Gladiators. Just like the game against Felswyr State, Sterling couldn't even lead the Gladiators to the end zone. Maybe he just really sucks while playing in Chromatika? Whatever the case, it was not looking good for him, and Coach Linhart was set with a tough decision.

WEEK 8: Robin Sterling 7%, Darian Lewis 34%, Logan Oakley 18%, Can't Decide 41%

Sterling has run out of any good will remaining in Cavsar. The mantra of "Why did we expect a guy who couldn't win with the Cold Hill offense to revolutionize the Cavsar offense?" has been repeated a lot in the added comments with polled fans. Many fans simply don't know what to think anymore. Perhaps Cavsar has no good quarterbacks this year, and it's a wash entirely. The high level of fence-sitting this late in the season is a damning correlation to such feelings. Lewis has the biggest slice of the pie among the QBs themselves, as most fans are hoping the Pomena loss was a fluke and that Lewis can perform better against better teams, somehow. Also interesting is the now no-longer-insignificant portion of fans believing that Logan Oakley deserves a chance at the helm.

Cavsar seems to be out of the Horizon Conference race at this point. Three games out of first place with two games to go is a tough spot. A good out-of-conference run could get Cavsar into a bowl game, but without a sweep from here on out, the dream of reaching the playoffs against seems out of reach for the Gladiators. Darian Lewis will receive the start against Felswyr State. Though a win here wouldn't do much for Cavsar, it could drastically improve the chances of Sadeg State to take the conference if they beat Staramara Tech as well. Obviously most Cavsarans don't care for helping the Skyhawks, but it could result in a Drawkian conference title, and that's always preferable to a Chromatik Horizon win.

With the season hanging in the balance, does Lewis have what it takes to keep Cavsar in the hunt? If he can't get the job done, who can? Will Sterling return, will Lewis ride it out regardless of result, or will Logan Oakley find significant playing time before this season is through? Cavsar fans merely hope these questions can get answered when the Firehawks travel to Roy Memorial this weekend.

The Heartlands Are Gone

Postby TJUN-ia » Fri Sep 30, 2022 8:55 am

We have been living under a lie this whole time. We thought we were fighting over the Mineral Conference's Mineral Division, when in fact the name was changed to the Heartland Division. The MinDiv didn't exist, but the HLD does. No matter what it was called, today was going to be a big day in the battle to try and earn a shot of the MinCon...so let's see how everything went, eh?

The Trent State Feathercaps are already out of contention, which is certainly strange to say but their 3-5 record entering this weekend does explain everything. Things have been pretty rough this season and Johnny Bridgeford knew that for a fact but considering this was also the first year under a new QB, everyone hopes that things can only get better from here. Their opponents today at Sherwood Feild would be the 1-7 Gairuwa Parmawakhs of Arjunnagaar, a team that is going through the worst time of it, and this "HLD Tank Bowl" was certainly a bit wacky. Despite only winning 1 game all year, their PD across the season certainly wasn't the worst out there and scoring 32 points on the road is a good way of showing that this team may be better than their record suggests. But this was a tight game and in the end, the Caps had to win this one for the sanity of Notts itself. Jason Steels had a productive day with 5 TDs - twice each to Peter and Ivan Borosić and a nice rushing play by Candice Fay - while Steels ran in a two-point conversion and 4/4 on PATs and 1/1 on FGs. At 4-5, the picture is certainly looking better...next week will big.

Meanwhile, the Green City Royal Eagles were entering Jacob F Gleason Field for what was, by far, the biggest game of their season so far. Their opponents, as expected, were the Warriors of UCBP and the maths was pretty simple: if UCBP won, the Heartland was theirs, but if GCU won, then it would go down to next week to see who would play in the MinCon Championship Game. You didn't need to tell either Paul Abdullahi or Moses Igbinoghene just how important this game was but despite the hostile atmosphere Belle Haven was guaranteed to give, they were certainly going to give it their all. This game was effectively a MinCon Semifinal in all but name and both sets of players certainly treated it as such, with only 33 combined points available on the night. Igbinoghene managed 2 TDs, once each to Gilbert Nyamutsamba and Lucky Sithole-Sita, with both Mercy and Stella Oshoala managing to catch 2-Point Conversions. Ryan Benton went things a different way, with Neal Antonelli finding Raymond Darrien twice for his two TDs but allowing Landon Korman to go 2/2 on PATs. That gave the Eagles a 16-14 lead late in the 4th but then, they had to punt the ball back with about 1:30 on the clock. Antonelli would start on his own 20 before rushing down the field, using timeouts and the field boundary whenever the team could before Korman was allowed 3 seconds to try and walk the game off with a 49-yard FG. The kick was good. UCBP win the Heartland. Just like that.

Only one game remains before we all get a week off, and you don't need me to tell you what that game is. Earth Trophy VI was always an interesting game but now, you have two different mindsets - one team looking to keep their playoff aspirations alive and another looking to climb back up the pecking order with a huge upset on the road. GCU will be looking for 5-straight wins over the Caps while TSU will be looking to shock The Palace and cause what would be one of the biggest shocks in this rivalry's history. BUckle onto your hats, next week is all about pride and kicking the other side's ass.

Banijan recruiting roundup- Banija's top 9 future NSCF players

Image
Cass Tech football, Banija's most prominent high school football program

BUSUKUMA, NATIONAL CAPITOL REGION- Banija has always had strict high school recruiting rules, in terms of when schools were allowed to talk to prospects. It is a much further extended dead period than a lot of other countries. Traditionally, it is to make sure that high school athletes "are on solid footing academically" before they start talking to college scouts. Aka, make sure they're well into the school year. Is it reasonable? Does it make a lot of sense in the modern day and age, with phones and the internet and social media and what not?

The world may never know. But it is what it is. And the dead period is over, anyways- we are alive and well! In a new era, as well, where NIL is now commonplace in Banija. How does that change the recruiting landscape? We'll find out, eh?

And now, for these ratings, we are bringing the top 9 prospects. We'll have the BCSG transfer, the top rated domestic transfer, and the top 7 recruits out of high school.

Without further ado!

BCSG Transfer- OT Demboo Usijang. University of Bunyoro
Measurables: 6'6, 313 pounds. 5.39 40 yard dash.
Academic Major: Micro-economics
NSCF XXVIII Class: Senior

Usijang is one massive dude. Clocking in at 6'6, 313 pounds, he's a massive player who simply got a late introduction to gridiron, which is why he never got on the NSCF radar out of high school. He's a career wrestler- but when U of B cut the wrestling program after his freshman year, he decided to join football, and he absolutely never looked back.

His knock is that he's only got two years of football experience. The positives? Literally everything else. He's massive. He's got a motor. He's physical. He talks smack with the best of 'em. He takes it personally if his QB gets hit. And as he pursues potentially a pro career, he feels as if the NSCF is the most viable path towards that.

JUCO Transfer- DT Samuel Jate, Busukuma City Community College,
Measurables: 6'8, 329 pounds. 6.01 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Accounting
NSCF XXVIII Class: Redshirt Junior

I don't think anyone has quite seen a guy like this. 329 pounds. How exactly do you move him out of the way? The answer is- you don't. A guy that size has an unreal highlight real when they're playing on the community college circuit, and this kid his no exception. They used to host days on campus where people would try to move him, and regular college students would just bounce off. Regularly, he would hold 2, potentially even a third, blocker to open up huge gaps for linebackers to jump into the backfield and cause chaos.

O-Linemen are bigger at the NSCF level, yes- but 6'8, 329 is still 6'8, 329. Obviously, at his size, there are legitimate concerns about his lateral movement. But if you can improve his motor- well, does he even need lateral movement?

Rapid-Fire Banijan Recruiting Guide
Region with highest concentration of talent: Moravica Region
Best High school football programs in the country: Cass Tech(Busukuma), St. Sava Prep(South of Istria)
Region that produces the most skill players: Moravica Region, Busukuma/National Capitol Region(co-terminous), Kitara Region
Region that produces the biggest linemen: Aksum Region
Regions that are Northern Moravica hotbeds: Moravica Region, Aksum Region, Hangaza Region
Regions that are Loyola-Istria hotbeds: Moravica Region, Kitara Region, National Capitol Region
Regions most likely to produce a multi-sport athlete: Moravica Region, Buganda Region

#7 TE Keemoo Ga- Galinbo High School, Galinbo, Aksum Region(rural small town by northern border with Timuria)
Measurables: 6'4, 261 pounds, 4.81 40 yard dash
Academic Interests: Civil Engineering

Keemo Ga is a matchup problem. At 6'4, 261 he actually started as a linemen- until his coached realized that he was too quick to simply play left tackle. So his coach simply slid him in right next to the linemen, at tight end, and Keemoo Ga has done extremely well. Like most tight ends, he's a nightmare matchup- while he doesn't quite have the speed of one of the Farmer brothers, he's fast enough to be a lot to handle for linebackers, and big enough for safeties to stay away.

Ga will have a number of suitors. His blocking is basically perfect- and he's got raw talent as a pass catcher. His route running could use some serious work, but if somebody's willing to put in the time, he could really turn out to be something special.

#6 DE/EDGE Karwana Kimaka- Ntanzi High School, Mynda, Aksum
Measurables: 6'1, 281 pounds. 4.95 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Human Resources

Another big boy from Aksum- who would've guessed? Only everbody. Running under a 5.0 40 yard dash time when you're a linemen is outright impressive, and Kimaka does that. He's setting himself up to be quite a dangerous EDGE rusher. His bull rush is so effective- he explodes out of the stance, and just puts left tackles across Banija's northern-most state on their backs.

Right now, he's pretty much a one-trick pony. The best bull rush in the country, and that's it. That's all he's needed, even in a region where they are known for having excellent offensive linemen. But he'll need more moves at the college level- if a coach will invest that time, then damn, his potential is through the roof.

#5 LB Alanyo Wanzala- Mujoobe High School, Busukuma, National Capitol Region
Measurables: 6'1, 235 pounds. 4.75 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Mathematics

Wanzala is a rangy middle linebacker, who can really anchor down anywhere. Uniquely, he's seen success both as part of the 3-4 and 4-3, since as a freshman, his team ran a 3-4 before switching to a 4-3 his sophomore year. This dude just racks up tackles like nobody's business- breaking the city record for tackles in a season with 111. The MLB is simply a beast in the middle of the field, as runners don't escape his grasp, he blitzes very efficiently, and anyone who runs a shallow crossing route is going to regret it.

HIs fatal flaw, and why he's not higher on this list? Man coverage. He could use some work in the pass coverage game- good enough at the HS level, but not good enough to keep up with college HBs and TEs, for now. As a freshman, he could definitely play on the running downs. But give a college-level DC a chance to coach him up in the passing game? He'll really take off.

#4 WR Okwayi Kyebanja- Sialou High School, Sialou, Kitara Region(Sisonke suburbs)
Measurables: 6'4, 227 pounds. 4.47 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Psychology

Yet another star Banijan WR coming out of HS? That's how this works, as this year, the nation's top HS WR is Kyebanja, coming out of Sialou. Sialou is one of the newer wealthy suburbs of Banija- basically a town built out of the rapid, recent, explosive population growth of Sisonke. Kyebanja is from a wealthy gridiron family himself, as his Dad was a QB in the GFLB, and his uncle was a DE in the GFLB, for a number of years. With professional football etched in his veins, Kyebanja has that high vision for himself- and will not rest until he meets his family destiny.

And as a WR, he's basically a perfect physical specimen. He's quick, he's tall, he can catch the ball in traffic, he's got that need to succeed on the field. Many say that the only thing he cares about is football- a coach's dream, of course, but one that can cause him to suffer in the classroom. It's rare that academic ineligibility issues come not from partying, but from the weight room, but that's how tunnel visioned Kyebanja can get- who got suspended in HS for skipping an exam to hit the weights.

#3 CB Munanire Tembo- Golden Plates High School, Yurama, Moravica Region(inner-ring suburb of Istria)
Measurables: 5'11, 222 pounds. 4.49 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Sociology

We're back to Golden Plates High School, eh? This time, with an elite CB- Munanire Tembo. The 5'11 CB can really do it all as a CB. While his tackling in the run game leaves some to be desired, the dude is a verified blanket. Half the field is gone whenever you try to throw against him. He takes on WR1s all the time in one of Banija's toughest high school football leagues, and really, he doesn't give up much of anything at all.

This is a future CB1 and an anchor of a NSCF defense. Why not grab him?

#2 HB Balinda Kisero- Pioneer High School, Corizova, Moravica.. Only female on this list.
Measurables: 5'9, 197 pounds. 4.41 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Finance

Balinda Kisero is on this list. The Pioneer grad is a running back, and a small one at that, who lands herself all the way at #2 on this list. Why? Well, despite her stature, she's a workhorse and a beast. Her unique combination of speed, quickness, and power make her a whole lot to handle, especially for an offense that likes to run pro-style. Even at just 5'9, tacklers bounce off her because of her massive legs. SHe's just a motor that refuses to go down.

It's positional value that is the only reason she's at 2- she seems to be the near perfect prospect, for a squad that knows how to utilize the running back. She's also extremely effective catching the ball out of the backfield and in open space. While her pass blocking could use some work, that's true for any 17 year old HB, isn't it? She will be ready.

#1 QB Kasozi Wampona- East Renaissance High School, Aissa, Hangaza Region
Measurables: 6'3, 249 pounds. 4.61 40 yard dash.
Academic Interests: Sociology

Is that the #1 prospect in the country coming from Aissa? The answer is yes, as the explosive growth of the second most populous city in the country's second most populous state is clearly paying off dividends on the CFB scene. Wampona is pretty quick- at 4.61, is actually pretty fast for a QB, although he's definitely not going to be the fastest guy on your team, full stop.

What sets him apart, is his accuracy. That's a tough thing to teach- and while he's certainly got an arm, his ability to pinpoint the football, at just age 17, is what makes him the #1 overall recruit in the country. His only flaw, truly, is that his deep ball could use some work- but if you believe that throw power can be taught, then you've got all sorts of reasons to get a jump on this dude.

Other News
- Loyola-Istria won their seventh straight contest, and clinched the division, when they beat RUoN by a score of 33-6. Despite kicking four field goals on the day, A-MV still threw two touchdown passes herself, and the Blue Thunder got a kick return touchdown on the day as well. "A winning streak of seven games, and clinching the division title outright- an absolutely fantastic start to my run here at Loyola-Istria." Said first year head coach, Dennis Zervos. "Now, of course, we go to Northern Moravica- and you know how those games are. Throw out the records, forget everything you know, it's gonna be a scrap to the finish. And don't worry- this team will be ready to scrap with ANYBODY."
- Northern Moravica, who entered the weekend a game behind, was mathematically eliminated after falling in an upset loss to Elephant Valley, as Addo Uster's Red Elephants got their first ever win over the Cougars, 43-29. It ended a streak of 7 straight wins in the rivalry for NMU, and ended their chance to hold all 5 rivalry trophies at the same time - at least this season. "Getting lit up for 6 touchdowns, including a singular 2 point conversion, and 43 points, is not something that I want to see from this team." Said an incensed NMU Head Coach Lance Kabuye. "Hats off to Elephant Valley, but we can, and will, do better. I promise you- we are going to turn things around on that side of the football, and Loyola won't know what the hell hit 'em when we match up on Sunday."
- Week 10's North v. South Showdown is a first in a number of ways. First of all, it's the first matchup that technically lacks division/conference stakes- since Loyola-Istria has already clinched the division no matter what Saturday's result is. Second of all, it's the first time in the NSCF era where NMU plays their home game second- it has traditionally been ULI first. "Look, I know what people are saying- our team is stumbling, blah blah blah." Said the head coach, Lance Kabuye. "The race for a conference title, unfortunately, is over. But the playoffs are within sight. And most importantly- we've got an archrival whose ass needs kicking. While the conference is out of reach, all of our goals are still in front of us. We are still very much in playoff contention. We've got a hard road ahead of us- all four of our final opponents are winning their divisions(three of them have clinched with a game remaining), but we see that as an opportunity. That means we will have an important for playoff caliber wins as we try and impress the NSCF Committee. Everything we want to do is still possible. But it all starts with the men in blue- we will be laser-focused, and do whatever it takes to take down those bastards."
- Loyola-Istria head coach Dennis Zervos talked about how it would be to visit Mugisha II Memorial, for the first time, as a head coach. "Well, obviously, I've been there both as a player and as an assistant plenty of times, so I'm not sure what changes to be honest. They're our huge national rival- we've got to do whatever it takes to beat them. I know they're studying film from week 3 and throughout the season, and trust us, there will be wrinkles in whatever we throw at them. We've never beaten them twice in the regular season in the NSCF, and so we know this is our greatest opportunity to do so. What a definitive way that would be to show where the direction of gridiron is heading in Banija, eh?"

Banijan NSCF Betting Lines for Week 10.
Guide
If a team is +(aka Banija +4 against Ranoria), then they are the underdog.
If a team minus(aka Ranoria -4 against Banija) they are the favorite.
If a line is listed as +/- (aka Cold Hill scoring +/- 8.5 points) then that is the line you can bet the over/under. In example, at that, you could bet that Cold Hill will score more than 8.5 points, or less than 8.5 points.
North v. South Showdown
- Loyola-Istria -2.5 @ Northern Moravica
- ULI QB Anne-Marie Vavayavich: +/- 275.5 passing yards
- ULI TE Russell Farmer: +/- 1.5 receiving TDs
- ULI Defense: +/- 1.5 Turnovers
- NMU HB Jebel Marenah: +/- 1.5 rushing TDs
- NMU WR Jannik Nadine: +/- 95.5 receiving yards
- NMU WR Tyler Geese: +/- 1.5 receiving TDs
Elsewhere in College Football
- Cold Hill(-4.5) @ Richardson
- RUoN(+7.5) @ Elephant Valley
- University of Alexandroupolis(+4.5) @ Constantinople
- Staramara Tech(+3.5) @ Felswyr State
- Sadeg State(-2.5) @ Cavsar University
Rare Opportunity Bets
- Richardson: +550 to allow less than 100 total points throughout the entirety of the season. They've currently allowed 68 through 8 games. Possible? Most certainly. But likelihood, considering their non-con? You may be better off taking the -150 to finish as the NSCF's #1 scoring defense after 13 games... (prereq: only counting teams that play at least 13 games).
- Northern Moravica: +210 to miss the playoffs for the first time since they returned to the NSCF in NSCF 17.
- Bunama Diawara: +/- 300.5 yards for Week 10

In Their Prime: Coming Off Their Best Showings This Season,
Youngblood Looks To Challenge Richardson's Vaunted Defense

Image
Cold Hill looks to sweep the Governors for the fourth time in the last five seasons

"We have the best quarterback in the NSCF," claimed Chris Dale after the Buffalo ran Swisston off the field in a 65-26 flyover in the Tundra, "As we should. This is the prime destination for top quarterbacks who are serious about their potential professional careers." Dale may be brash in his confidence in his players with an already one-time-champion Kadesh Odika slinging it at Felswyr State and Anne-Marie Vavayavich dominating the Celestia for the Blue Thunder, but they have clinched the Evermore division on the back of their Quebecois gunslinger. And after an incredibly slow start to his scoring this season, Benoit Youngblood has them sitting at 9-0 as the top-ranked offense in the NSCF coming into their week 10 showdown with Richardson.

After starting the season with just four touchdowns (one rushing) to six interceptions in his first three, Benoit's now accumulated 31 total touchdowns against just 8 turnovers, with just shy of thirty-five-hundred yards to his name in his nine outings. Ever since he got his sea legs back under him, he's been producing at nearly Rhine-esque levels as the backbone of this football team, and his receiving corps, of course, have been the benefactors.

Senior Nikolas Isaksen has led the way with 998 yards so far in this campaign, a massive comeback from his poor NSCF 26 showing (though who can blame him with Robin Sterling throwing his way). Darin Sundström has been an excellent chain mover, averaging 12 yards per reception and scoring six touchdowns, but of course it's been Kasozi Batte drawing most of the headlines. The freshman is 2nd on the team in yards and receiving touchdowns and is averaging nearly 15.5 yards per catch - he's managed to develop a strong chemistry with Benoit Youngblood early and the two have frequently been able to pick up big chunks on off-schedule throws, with Batte's incredible physicality, sheer speed, and unmatched tenacity making him a matchup nightmare from any alignment.

"Batte just," Benoit Youngblood couldn't help but laugh when he hesitated to answer a question after practice, "I've never met anyone like him. Sure, we all get tired, but he doesn't care - it's like he feels he's guided by some higher power to win. And, well, he does."

The true freshman duo is certainly on track to have a dazzling connection throughout their collegiate tenure, and with Alexander Østby dominating on the ground despite limited opportunities (956 yards on 180 carries for 5.3 yp/c) and proving to be a true weapon in the passing game with 40 receptions for 603 yards, this offense has too many weapons to focus on. Commit to any one, hell, two of these guys, and you've still got world-beaters coming open elsewhere. Hell, if everyone's covered, Benoit's got 200 rushing yards and a pair of scores on the ground this season - when he wants to run, he does some damage.

They've scored 30+ in 6 straight games now and been held to under 20 just once, but that came against Richardson University. Thanks in large part to Buffalo safety Proko (who leads the team in tackles and has recorded 4 INT and 5.5 sacks this season), the Governor offense was held to just 3. Proko has carried this defensive unit to top-5 status in every sense of the word as a superstar on the back end and the last remnant of one of the best secondaries in college football history in Victoria Mio, Agnor Viridian, Koman Tabor, and himself. But if there's a team that's shown they can limit this incredible collection of talent, it's the one coached by the greatest defensive mind in the sport.

Despite losing a generational talent in Gideon Kearse to the draft, he has this defense performing at a historic level through 9 games. They've now pitched four shutouts, with the most recent coming in an absolute bludgeoning against Kohnhead City University. The Mighty Eagles, in their initial NSCF seasons, had absolutely made the Governors their doormat, with plenty of iconic moments between the two going in favor of KCU. But since Kasen Harrowitz - who was the mastermind behind a Felswyr State Firehawks defense that gave KCU fits - arrived at RU, they're 4-0 against Kohnhead's flagship program. This latest, dominating showing only makes it even more clear - the Governors are back. Whether it's Kaspar Ulvestad's 9.5 sacks, Totte Lindberg, Takeuchi Ichiko, and Karl Fortis having snagged ten combined interceptions, or Malchiel Lukwiya wreaking havoc on the interior with ten tackles for a loss and three sacks, Harrowitz has combined an incredible scheme with an affinity for putting his players in position to make game-changing plays.

Of course, their offense has its fair share of playmakers. Rylan Rodgers Jr., who recently missed a team meeting due to a single mother forcibly turning him into a babysitter, has averaged 5 yards a carry on the season and has provided this offense with a spark on several occasions, spelling the durable but uninspiring Horace Billing for 102 carries so far on the campaign. He's an electric talent and a two-sport athlete who's got a lot of people clamoring for him to take over as the lead back for the Governors, but for now the team has been insistent on his role.

Of course, it's the quarterbacks that get all the attention! Isaiah Hunter hasn't been incredibly flashy, but he's done his job so far this season. In nine games, he's cleared 2,000 passing yards and has only turned the ball over thrice. The Chromatik native certainly has talent to give, but as a true freshman starter he's been relegated to a game manager for most of the season, getting the ball off quickly to upperclassmen in Dustin van Halfensen and Constantina Perrier, the latter of whom has gotten almost 50% of the team's yardage in the passing game this season. He's also getting along great with Rodgers Jr- the pair seem to be in sync on checkdowns or option plays, with Rodgers Jr often moving into gaps in coverage to give his quarterback a nice outlet in the passing game.

The strengths of these teams though, are the Buffalo offense the the Governor defense without a doubt. This classic matchup of unstoppable force meets immovable object will be the one everyone's watching on Saturday - the Buffalo have already clinched the a spot in the Big 8 championship, but Richardson losing here would make it much tougher to at least get to double-digit wins through their non-conference slate.

As with KCU, Kasen Harrowitz was able to sweep a Cold Hill team that had dominated Richardson in the final years of Richard Steinheil's tenure to help his squad to 12-1 in his first season. He's certainly looking to avoid going right back to square one in week 10.

The Misadventures of Rylan Rodgers
Tidbit 2: Do you people know who I am?

"Honestly, you should probably just drop out." Rylan's date said matter-of-factly just as they were getting back to the dorms. It had been going so well this time, too.

"Uh, what?" he stopped dead in his tracks, and she unlooped her arm from his to spin on a heel, "Well, look, my family is very wealthy and I plan on getting a job right after graduation." Now she took both his hands in hers, and with a sweet smile, said, "You don't need to worry about college, or getting a job, or any of that. We'll get married, and you'll be at home, and I'll take care of us."

If she hadn't been so genuine, he'd have been more freaked out - as it was, his jaw dropped. Here he was with legitimate aspirations of being a future first-round pick, and he was being told to be...a stay at home dad?

"I don't think that's gonna work..." he cringed as he said it, "It's always been my dream to play professional football..."

She stepped back and looked his large frame up and down. Put a finger to her lip. Sighed. Her charm and hopeful glow? Gone.

"And here I thought you weren't one to push the patriarchy. Oh well, on to the next one." And just like that, she was walking away, and Rylan was left wondering what had just happened.

Summary: Anderson Joseph, Jr. threw three touchdowns, Brenna Howarth kicked three Field Goals, and the Mimes' defense, led by Kim Byung-San, held the Saints to 201 total yards as the Mimes emphatically returned to the National Quarterfinals without much trouble. Andrew Wiggins struggled in the match for the Saints, as the Sophomore Quarterback had three turnovers, but the fairytale season ended despite Irina Jones having her usual stellar game with thirteen tackles.

"We proved that last season wasn't a fluke," stated Joseph, Jr., after the game, "Now, we need to go a step further and win the entire thing."

With Joseph at the helm and pieces on both sides, the Mimes will be left wondering, why couldn't they?

Mountain District Championship Game

MVP: Mt. Niar High School Senior Running Back Anne Holmes (21 carries, 193 yards, 2 touchdowns, 8 catches, 101 yards, 1 touchdown)

Summary: After having a hard time against the Rapiers, the Anacondas returned more to their usual form, handling the Grizzlies with ease to return to the National Quarterfinals without too much trouble.

On the day, it was the Anne Holmes show, as the Senior Running Back accounted for 294 yards and three scores on the day. She was great in space, making defenders miss and getting lots of yards after contact. It was a disappointing end of the season for the Grizzlies, but they'll be back in the next season, as Beatrice Hak and Erik Kessler will be back, along with one Ewan Pyrehamix, who will be a Sophomore in the next season. As for Rowles and the Anacondas, Holmes's emergence gives them yet another weapon as they try to go one step further than last season, where they lost in the finals to the Blue and White.

Is this the year?

Summary: When the Order announced that they will be entrusting the Quarterback position to a Freshman, many thought that they might fall behind, especially with Rea Atera, the Senior, being in charge for their rivals in the Scorpions and Argonaut being untested. Argonaut took a while to get going, but now, he's become one of the better Quarterbacks in the country - and he's only a Freshman.

In an efficient display, the youngster completed 17 of 24 passes for 213 yards and two touchdowns to lead the way for the Order, who didn't allow a touchdown till late. Their defense held things together, as Michael Larson led the way with four passes defensed and one interception, which he returned for a touchdown. This win cements the fact that regardless of whether it is East Shantarr or West Shantarr, Shantarr runs the Heartland in terms of gridiron ball at the high school level.

08:33 JHYHS TD - Heinrik Dessler 22 yard fumble return (Nix Drell Kick)
MVP: J. H. Yadasky High School Freshman Kicker Nix Drell (4/4 Field Goals, 2/2 Extra Points)

Summary: It's not often that you can say that Special Teams won a game for you, but the Heroes can definitely say that. Nix Drell completed four field goals and two extra points, Punter Gymon Harolos had two punts downed within the ten yard line, and the Heroes' special teams set the Kayaks up for the fumble return that shut the game down. The Kayaks, after handling the Cyclones in back-to-back games, were utterly shut down byt he Heroes and Heinrik Dessler, while Freshman Quarterback Cade Stases did not lose the game for the Heroes.

There will come a time in the National Playoffs where Stases will have to win the game; is he ready for that kind of spotlight?

4Q
05:11 MNWHS TD - Lina Bonsoon 87 yard interception return (Paul Garnet Kick)
MVP: Myana Northwestern High School Senior Middle Linebacker Kerron NIcholas (13 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception)

Summary: The Cats really gave the Blue and White all that they could handle, but the veteran core of the Blue and White defense came through in the end, holding the Cats to three Field Goals when they had the firepower to do more, as the defending champions moved on to the National Playoffs by escaping, 31-23, at the Islander Dome.

The Cats had three Field Goals of 42 yards and less, which meant that they had three drives stall within the Blue and White 25; Eza Danielson did go 31 of 39 for 319 yards and two touchdowns, but he also had an interception returned for a touchdown as well as two passes where the receiver was a yard short. The Cats' coaching staff decided to go for the conservative play, which could've ultimately cost them the game as they were not able to hold town the Blue and White for long.

In the Fourth Quarter, the Cats actually had a late drive going when a pass on the flat to Madison Jones was picked off by Lisa Bonsoon. The Senior corner raced down sideline to ice the game, and that was that. Myana Northwestern had fended off their hardest test yet on a bid to be a repeat Champion since the Anacondas squad led by one Sarai Gwenderyn.

Urrhed Island Championship Game

4Q
04:44 STHS FG - Jin Hayamoshi 33 yard Field Goal
MVP: Staramara Tech High School Freshman Outside Linebacker Freya Odinsdóttir (8 tackles, 3 sacks, 1 interception)

Summary: In a defensive struggle, with Mattiue Hancock being bottled down by the Gold, it was the right leg of Jin Hayamoshi and the defense of the Battle Angels that showed up, with new star Freya Odinsdóttir leading the way with three sacks and an interception. Though Bernice Draymond, the do-it-all Quarterback, broke loose on one play for the only touchdown scored by Southern Urrheddiao, it wasn't nearly enough.

The Battle Angels move on, finally in the promised land, ready to cause some waves.

07:21 WTSG FG - Yessen Haim 55 yard Field Goal
MVP: Vitoron School of Charge Junior Quarterback Mtupeni Onwuatuegwu (22-of-26, 254 yards, 2 touchdowns)

Summary: A much more defensively minded affair in the rematch from last season's barnburner, but the Robots win once again, as Onwuatuegwu finds two of her Senior Wideouts for two scores and the Robots' defense comes through in the second half. To his credit, Rudy Sai did have a decent game, but Josip Hradjic was the only one that could score a touchdown for the Masterminds, who fall short once again at the District Playoffs, the Robots being that one team that they can't overcome.

Now, Ouwuatuegwu and the Robots return to the National Playoffs, looking to go a few steps further than they did the last season.

Capital District West Championship Game

02:20 FLCHS FG - Evan Wakes 38 yard Field Goal

04:11 FLCHS FG - Evan Wakes 51 yard Field Goal

3Q
08:52 FLCHS FG - Evan Wakes 42 yard Field Goal

4Q
08:33 FLCHS TD - Isidore Kraut 22 yard run (Evan Wakes Kick)
01:42 FLCHS TD - Jasmine Bust 3 yard fumble return (Evan Wakes Kick)
MVP: Franscesca Larriet-Cortes High School Junior Quarterback Noah Sellers (14-of-17, 210 yards, 2 touchdowns)

Summary: The Martyrs defense forced five turnovers, Noah Sellers found Earnest Pam and Enox Silverman for easy scores, and the Martyrs could've won this game by a much bigger margin as they utterly dominated the Dread to return to the National Playoffs. With Sophomore Quarterback Raul Sébastien Santos constantly under duress - he would be sacked five times in the defeat - the Dread couldn't get anything going, and the turnovers created many a short field that the Martyrs cashed in, no problem.

Noah Sellers was efficient, while Isidore Kraut added 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground. It wasn't the best warmup for the National Playoffs, but they'll take it.
