Postby Pasarga » Fri Mar 04, 2022 10:54 pm

Pasarga
Presents
Copa Rushmori XL

Welcome one and all to the 40th edition of the Copa Rushmori, a tournament who was conceived in the city of Torgos in the Dual Islands of Pasarga between representatives of Nethertopia, C&M, and of course the hosts themselves, as well as later backing from Sargossa. In honor of this monumental edition of the tournament, the Dual Islands bid to host the tournament in which they helped create. Will the celebration of the tournament in the Dual Islands spring forth the national team to great deeds, will one of the traditional powers showcase their might, or will another surprise everyone and make a run for glory in this historic edition of the tournament?

Background
Pasarga was formed by the refugees of the fallen Persian empire following the invasion of Huns. They traveled for several months before they came upon a pair of uninhabited islands in the northwest of what they would later found out to be the region of Rushmore. Wishing to cast aside their failures, the citizens abandoned the majority of their Persian culture, including a hard line adaption of European names, though they retained their old religious practice of Zoroastrianism.

Following their settlement, the citizens decided to call themselves Pasargans after a fashion of those that they encountered on their sojourn calling them the Pariis. It was a tribute to what they had endured but also the promise of what could be rebuilt again. Rather than returning to a warlike people, they turned towards a cultural and spiritual way of life, keeping themselves mostly isolated from the outside world, apart from participation in the events like the World Cup.

Even as the years have passed, Pasarga still stays mostly an isolationist and peaceful pair of nations, relying notably upon the regional alliance of Eura and Polar Islandstates. They have turned to trade and sport as a way of measuring success, branching out of their shell if ever so slightly. The rural regions of the nation still strongly are mistrustful of foreigners and believe that little good can come them, with cities a necessary evil to conduct business.

Map of Pasarga
Image

Weather
Pasarga enjoys a relatively mild and jungle-esque climate throughout the majority of the islands. Notable exceptions are Troubalose and Lunas which both are a few degrees cooler on average than the rest of the nation due to the northern peninsula positions against the cold waters of the Alban Strait. During summer, the majority of the nation averages a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius or 77 degrees Fahrenheit, though with humidity averaging around sixty to eighty percent depending upon how close to the mountains and coast you are.

Transportation
While cars are not banned, it is preferred that the citizenry use the various forms of mass transit provided by the government to do their inner city travel. Light rail (including trolleys/cable cars), subways, as well as a bus system provide routes and stops to get to most locations within any of the major cities. Torgos, Targas, Paulinthal, Stein-los, Lunas, and Stilinkeep are all home to international airports for those wishing to fly into the country while most major cities have a smaller airport for domestic travel within the dual islands. Torgos, Lunas, and Paulinthal also are the three major ports of Pasarga and are well adjusted for any influx of passengers that route.

Stadiums
First match listed in a group takes place in the first listed stadium on each matchday.

Group A
Stade de Torgos (Torgos) - 90,000
Image

The crown jewel of Pasargan footballing stadium, it is both the national stadium and the stadium of the club side Galatica. It was built to be a monument to the prowess that the Pasargan people can achieve whenever they put their minds to it and show the rest of the footballing community that they belong. Located in the heart of the capital, it is easy to reach from anywhere within the city and the noise created inside the stadium has been known to shake surrounding buildings whenever the Wanderers are playing.

Telathron (Targas) 72,000
Image

One of the three stadiums being used that has retractable roofs, Telathron is located in the former footballing capital of the nation. Telathron was built as a supposed rival to Stade de Torgos to compete as the national stadium, but the arena feel to the stadium made it lose out. Despite that, it is still a modern stadium that offers the capability to keep the temperatures during the games at a comfortable seventy-five degrees whenever the roof is closed.

Group B
Kilmonarch (Stein-los) - 72,000
Image

Stein-los welcomes any and all travelers to its borders with open arms. Long since believed to be the footballing capital of the nation, usurping the title from both Torgos and Targas, the chance to host the World Cup has the Stein-losians ecstatic. Kilmonarch, the best of which Stein-los has to offer, is a stadium built just a short twenty or so years before with all the latest amenities meant to attract UICA final bids that never really formulated. All the same, this football crazy city is ready to put on a show for all those who are sent to play matches in their jewel.

Albrecht Road (Stein-los) 57,000
Image

Being the home of Stein-los Turkish, the sister club of once famous Albrecht Turkish, Albrecht Road was named after the sister club and designed with Canderlarian architecture in mind. The locale is supplied with food and art from the nation to the northwest, to give even more homage to the once great club for with the stadium is named.

Group C
Stilinkeep Stadium (Stilinkeep) 64,000
Image

The second of the retractable roof stadiums, it offers the same services that Telathron does but in the comforts of Peynol's most diverse city. Filled with immigrants from all over the known world, Stilinkeep is a diverse and culturally rich city. Museums and art galleries dot its downtown sector as well as a rustic feel to the city with many of the original buildings built of brick still standing despite more modern facilities and sectors popping up around the city. It is truly a melting pot of different ideas and cultures that have found a balance between the old and the new, much the same as their stadium shows.

Stadium of the Moon (Lunas) - 84,000
Image

Lunas is the de facto capital on Peynol, the largest city on the second island, as well as the one with the most wealth. It suffers from dreadfully cool temperatures compared to the rest of the nation due to its location out on the peninsula. This has hardened the citizens who live in Lunas, who call themselves the "Kings of the Strait", with the Alban Strait to their north. There is also a great devotion to the moon in Lunas, as the largest of the stadium suggests, with crescents found in various art forms across the city. There is a very spiritual feel in Lunas and football itself is something of a ritual, with the walk from the "Stalking Dragon", the largest pub, to the stadium every weekend there is a match. Visitors are encouraged to partake in these rituals or at least be respectful of them.

Group D
Taltron Park (Torgos) - 66,000
Image

Home to perhaps the most successful of the three capital clubs in Baskita FC, Taltron is the stadium usually forgotten in the capital. It is neither as big nor as fancy as Stade de Torgos, but located within a city park itself, it offers a serene surrounding and tranquil environment. Even the games inside the stadium are less rowdy than the rest of the city and nation.

San Daros (Paulinthal) - 64,000
Image

Home to the famous, or infamous depending upon where you're from, CA Paulinthal. San Daros is a stadium that intimidates it opposition, with the away locker room purposely being built to only 400 square feet in order to unnerve the opposing team before the match even begins. Being a port city, Paulinthal is home to a large immigrant city, but in particularly a very large hispanic population. As such, it is not uncommon to hear a variety of accents of Spanish and even Portuguese being spoken while walking the streets, as well as other vestiges of hispanic culture like taquerias and mariachi bands.

Group E
Fire Park (Troubalose) 62,000
Image

Unlike the rest of the stadiums, Fire Park is not located in a culturally or financially rich part of the nation. The north of Pargis is one of the least populated areas of the dual islands and Troubalose being the only main population center due to the small trading port. Despite this, those who travel to Fire Park and Troubalose will find a friendly and proud host. They are the kings of the desolation and welcome any guests with both humility and respect, as well as cheering on their clubs with the passion expected from Stein-losians or Paulinthii.

Tecos Stadium (Paulinthal) 47,000
Image

Home to the (in)famous Santos Luega, Tecos stadium is located in the middle of one of the largest hispanic populaces in Paulinthal. Spicy cuisine, colorful music, and some very interesting art can be found around the stadium. Despite the club being something of a black swan among the SuperLiga, the fans of the club are usually quite welcoming to those looking to enjoy a good match, as long as you are not supporting the opponent for that matchday.

Group F
Stadium of the Sun (Belja) 56,000
Image

The second largest stadium in Peynol, the Stadium of the Sun is home to FC Belja in the southern tip on Peynol's central region. Belja has a very humid climate that many traveling players find difficult to play in, while it provides the sort of year round comfortable temperatures that make it a popular winter retreat for those looking to escape the cold season. While not as rich as Lunas, nor as historical significant as Stilinkeep, Belja still stands as a testament to how far Pasarga has come with its diverse array of food selections and the calm demeanor that so often comes by the sea.

Spartan Stadium (Evenfar) 30,000
Image

Evenfar used to be an afterthought when it came to football, but the Spartans slowly built themselves up and have become a power within the SuperLiga, and in doing so have made their home stadium an attractive venue for opponents to visit as well as included in the hosting pool. Located slightly inland from the port, Spartan stadium provides a close to the action venue with good seats all around thanks to the horseshoe design.

Group G
Stein-los Stadium (Stein-los) 59,000
Image

Despite being home to the least popular of the three major clubs from Stein-los, Stein-los stadium is the oldest stadium to be used. Despite its age, it still is one of the treasures in the nation, with its seats draped in the green of Club Stein-los and the Smoking Brickhouse pub that is attached to the stadium's north end, making it a must see destination to all football purists and tourists visiting Pasarga.

Silverthal (Torgos) 60,000
Image

Not nearly as impressive on first glance as the Stade de Torgos, nonetheless Silverthal is itself quite a magnificent stadium in the nation's capital. Home to Fetherdron United, the stadium is unfortunately constantly bouncing back and forth between the first and second tier of Pasargan football as the Eagles are something of the yo-yo club. Located more in the inner city of the capital, it is surrounded by both residential areas as well as numerous examples of Pasargan culture for visitors to enjoy before or after a match.

Group H
Myrkan Stadium (Myrkan) 58,000
Image

One of the oldest stadiums in Pasarga and one of the few that has seen little in the ways of renovation in the last few decades to bring it up closer to more modern stadiums. A comfortable seaside breeze makes any afternoon match in the stadium rather comfortable for fans as they get a glimpse of how football stadiums were originally conceived in the dual islands on a visit to this historic stadium and home of FC Myrkan.

Crescent Park (Lunas) 50,000
Image

From one of the oldest stadiums, to one of the more recent one, Crescent Park is located near the waterfront in Lunas and home to Peynol-Lunas. The stadium has many modern amenities, including a retractable roof that was installed for use with the city being somewhat infamous for its peculiar weather that includes strong storms coming in from the north. For fans of modern comfort while watching a game, this is the place to be.

THE ASKARI UNION
Preferred Formation:
4-2-3-1
Style Modifier: 3
Playstyle: The long spectre of Skorjiball has left a mark in a nation now trying to play more aggressive, fast-paced, energetic style.
Kit Supplier: Cloaker
Captain: Lux Siravoi
Nickname: la Delfenoj

Having survived the whirlwind of S K O R J I B A L L, the financial implosion of their league (which limps on still, just, without room for foreign players) and three political coups in short succession, the Askari belatedly limp on to new pastures. Having achieved mediocre results in the past at the regional level, it's, well, unlikely that can maintain.

Without foreign players or investment, the Legaskari is a shadow of its former self, which was in its heyday... not very good. All the best Askari players are abroad, and those who aren't yet, aspire to. There have been extensive recent overhauls, however, as the prior 'golden' generation has simply aged out. This is the weakest side in recent memory, and they'll be lucky to pick up a point.

First-choice lineup.
The Askari have gained in confidence now, and are now able to play to their strengths. The Askari themselves tend to be smallish and more technically gifted than athletic, but a newfound emphasis on 'getting it up there' has taken over, and big lads from Eura have stabilised the spine of the team. Prior Askari sides have been more defensively focused and with an emphasis on pace, but Oslograd had taken to repeatedly yelling "THE BALL IS ROUND" at athletically-oriented plays in training, and it stuck.

Staff
Manager: Jehanne Scaletta - Age 39

Something of a coaching prodigy within the nation, Scaletta's ascended to the heady heights of being a first-team coach in the Nepharan second tier. She ... remains a coach there, but is moonlighting here in order to try and get a management job somewhere.

Goalkeepers
1 - GK - Dorothea Soumare - Age 31 - Branvon (KOR)
12 - GK - Michelle Gascon - Age 29 - Dinamo Sainati
18 - GK - Gianluca Combeferre - Age 22 - SSC Honneur

Soumare's the undoubted starter, distinctly overweight for a footballer but clever with her feet and great at distribution, as well as a good instinctive shot-stopper. Combeferre is the man of the future, Gascon the woman of the never.

Defenders
2 - RB - Marcelino Clement - Age 29 - Dinamo Sainati
3 - LB - Desdemone Facchin - Age 31 - AS Sainati
4 - CB - Corrado Gavroche - Age 27 - Grigio Calcio
5 - CB - Agostino Montargis - Age 31 - FC Portus (NOV)
13 - LB - Bella Vesper - Age 30 - Hussards
17 - RB - Iohana Mercado - Age 24 - Athletic Club Olarria (ASG)
19 - CB - Hortense Agustine - Age 25 - Bul Khungur Miners FC (TKT)

A rash of international retirements means that the old guard gives way to the new, at least in part; The bruiser Montargis and the vespine Facchin are rougher, more athletic talents. Agustine has potential if she can ever keep her weight down, and she missed her entire first season in Tikariot with injury; Mercado is a dangerous attacking wingback and genuine threat.

Midfielders
6 - HM - Luc Balard - Age 26 - Dinamo Sainati
8 - CAM - Jean-Gianni Monte - Age 26 - Hussards
10 - RAM - Alessander Digne - Age 25 - Estdal (GRF)
11 - LAM - Delphi Clemaron - Age 29 - Ancarea FC (TKT)
14 - CM - Valentina Cavicchi - Age 30 - Arrowsmith (EUR)
15 - CAM - Laguna Santutxu - Age 33 - Cartagena Desert Foxes (OSR)
16 - CM - Angela Volpe - Age 28 - SSC Honneur
20 - LAM - Donatella Fontaine - Age 24 - Ming (CMT)
22 - RAM - Leo Kamara - Age 30 - AS Sainati
23 - HM - Iago Croque - Age 26 - AS Sainati

Suffering for the retirement of Lux Siravoi, both holding midfielders are young Legaskari locals. Balard is smooth and Croque brutal, but neither is good. Flaky, talented Cavicchi could be a source of quality, while Delphi Clemaron's something of a talisman after the international retirement of Ballarin, with Santutxu the creative fulcrum. They'll most likely just ignore the right wing. Little can be expected from the substitutes, though there's some raw talent there.

Forwards
7 - ST - Sylvain Croxier - Age 31 - Alnio (CMT)
9 - ST - Renate Eskalza - Age 28 - Suttonville (EUR)
21 - ST - Olympe Riva - Age 23 - CFF Monthuez (KRY)

Muscular brawler Croxier's become an unexpected star in Chromatika, and none too soon with the retirement of Askari legend Sierra Aurtenetxe. Eskalza isn't far behind, and will likely replace him towards the end of most matches. Easily the strongest part of the squad.

The Prosaic Union of Gnejs and football
Apart from tennis, football is one of the most popular and traditional sports in the Union. There’s an established domestic league system where the two top tiers are very popular across the land (League 1 and League 2). However, like in many other societal aspects, the Union does not have a strong tradition for competing internationally, mainly due to the reigning isolationist policies of neutral non-alignment.

There is a national team, but they lack much in terms of experience and have mostly played occasional friendly games. The Nordsjø Derby against Baggieland is an example. The only modern example of international competition is their participation in the WC72 in 2015. Despite finishing second to last in group 15 in the initial stage, the team managed to win 3 games and draw 4. Among their feats was a 2-0 win against well-respected team Schottia, and a 1-1 draw against Chiata.

Football in the Union is focused on defensive play. They play in a 5-4-1 formation and are managed by Bjørnstjerne Eriksen. Their home venue is Kejm Park in the capital of Port Kejm (nicknamed "The Dock", capacity 28 000).

NEPHARA
World Ranking:
10th, or so
Preferred Formation: 4-2-3-1
Secondary Formation: 4-4-2 / 4-3-3
Style Modifier: -1
Home Stadium: The Farham Arena in Sabrefell is reserved for the biggest games, but Nephara is a large enough country that it spreads its matches across the nation.
Kit Supplier: Kirola
Nickname: The Cormorants

Crashing out in the group stages is an unacceptable outcome for Nephara, and Triffid Ramsey knew it. She decided her tenure in charge of the national side had reached its natural conclusion, and has been replaced by the livewire tyrant and two-time Emerald Crest winner Elaine Koeller. Koeller's not hanging around waiting. She's made wholesale changes to an aging side, shifting out almost everyone who won't still be in their peak come the World Cup, including a number of WC87 champions. Including, crucially, Kendra Considine, daughter of the previous manager. "I won't be having any of that drama," Koeller scoffed, openly admitting that it was in the service of dressing-room stability, and solidifying her own position.

Overall Record
624 wins - 114 draws - 141 losses
2059 scored - 1035 conceded

Trophies

World Cups 74 and 87
Eagle's Cup 5
4 Cope Rushmori - 30, 35, 36, 37

Only the second nation in history to achieve the 'Triple Crown' of WCC titles - represented by three stars on the crest.

Tactics
Image
Nepharan football is based around playing hard, pressing aggressively, playing for keeps. Occasionally this leaves gaps behind the high defensive line, though most Nepharan goalkeepers are in the sweeping mould these days to compensate. Marchers are, by and large, a physically imposing folk, and eager to throw their size around. The footballing culture is intensely competitive, and those that survive to make their way to the top are hellbent on winning at any cost. Elbows to the face. Subtle digs in the ribs. Diving is dishonest when opponents do it but streetwise when Nepharim do it. In short, Nephara are the bully from two years above who picked you, specifically, out as a natural target.

That is often the foreign perspective, but it overlooks a key fact; Nepharan football can honestly be beautiful to watch. Generations of players brought up on dry plains or asphalt play the ball quickly and fearlessly along the ground, never sideways when there's a forward option open, always looking to stretch and probe and stay one really good pass away from a goal. Nepharim are undoubtedly physical, even cynical, but their success has been built off the backs of ruthless, fast-paced passing football.

The Godhead
For home matches, and during international tournaments, Nephara wheels out the 'Godhead', a giant boulder with an eerie resemblance to Gethin Ramsey, first manager of the Cormorants in the modern era and by now long dead. Nepharim have a superstitious streak, and while nobody's saying it is, in fact, the mystic reincarnation of their most iconic leader, nobody's quite not saying it, either. The Godhead is traditionally 'walked' to the stadium by Nepharan ultras using an intricate series of ropes, and often a flare is wedged into its 'mouth' to simulate a smoking cigar.

Ambitious, tempestuous and self-assured, Elaine Koeller is the kind of person who thinks benevolent dictatorship would be perfectly viable if it was only her in charge. A goalkeeper in her playing days, she favours a high-tempo, aggressive pressing style that has achieved results at every club she's been at, and is convinced that she can drill it into the national team, given enough overtime on the training grounds. She has no time for disseidence and aims to create a tight-knit, resilient team culture. Remaining in situ from Ramsey's tenure, Scylla Vyntra is a former World Champion, and an experienced assistant manager with designs on a top job, somewhere. Why not here?

Goalkeepers
Core
1 - GK - Aranea Provost (Image Spartangrad) - Age 31 - 103 caps, 48 clean sheets
WC87 Champion
Many are tipped for the top, but Provost made it. A brilliant, spry goalkeeper, excelling in all aspects of the game but especially capable of magnificent, balletic saves, flicking balls around the post with iron wrists when they seemed impossible to reach. It's a good thing she's as skilled as she is, because her abrasive, fey personality stopped being cute in the Cormorants camp long ago.

12 - GK - Raluca Garamond (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 31 - 17 caps, 6 clean sheets
WC87 Champion
A languid, reliable goalkeeper with a rare command of her area. She might not be the most eye-catching of shot-stoppers, but her judgement and anticipation are second to none. Garamond will reliably concede slightly fewer goals than expected without ever really being flashy about it.

20 - GK - Tanith Arrowsmith (Image Dynamo Sjoedrhavn) - Age 27 - 14 caps, 6 clean sheets
An excellent shot-stopper whose skillset lends itself to high-pressing sides who need pacy sweeping and good distribution - just like the Cormorants. Her sole issue is that she tends to argue a lot with everyone around her. It's quickly forgiven and forgotten... on her end, at least. Nevertheless, Arrowsmith has done excellently in the Eagles Cup and has more than earned her place in the team.

Defenders
2 - RB - Ophelia Schrader (Image AFC Treason) - Age 26 - 20 caps, 1 goal
Schrader's standing on the shoulders of a giant, replacing Rovena Stride for both club and country. She was fairly evidently a top-class attacking fullback from early on, but has improved her ability to defend dramatically of late, and her limitless stamina allows her to seamlessly transition from one to the other.

3 - LB - Radeka Lind (Image Jinja City FC) - Age 26 - 53 caps, 5 goals
WC87 Champion
Lind still looks somewhat coltish, but it belies her unerring eye for a challenge. It's Lind's unabashed love of taking the ball away from people that's her standout in a country that tends to like its fullbacks forward at every opportunity; Lind swings in a vicious cross, but her inherent caution is well-suited to the international game. By now, firmly established as one of the greatest defenders of the generation.

5 - CB - Reniira Clevinger (Image Herzegovina City FC) - Age 29 - 86 caps, 17 goals
WC87 Champion
The first half-satyr - indeed, the first non-fullblooded human - to represent the national team, Clevinger essentially looks like a hulking 6'8" woman with blue skin and stubby, vestigial horns poking out of her scalp. Unsurprisingly, she's also the tallest person in Cormorants history. That's handy as a centre-half, and she's scored goals at the big tournaments. She's one of the first names on the teamsheet, but who gets to partner her?

6 - CB - Reina Turnbull (Image Kingsgrove) - Age 28 - 20 caps
A well-travelled defender whose inclusion took many more casual or insular fans by surprise, but struck those in the know as long overdue. Turnbull is a confident passer of the ball who excels in progressive play, but is a commanding and resolute defender when called upon.

17 - RB - August Kovac (Image Aries Chariots) - Age 23 - Uncapped
A soft-spoken, tough-tackling defender, Kovac was one of those unassuming players you assume will plug quietly in the Zenith forever without ever quite getting capped. Turns out, though, that reliably coming up with 7/10 performances is just the ticket for an always-mercurial Nephara.

18 - CB - Anaximander Scales (Image Stahlburg City) - Age 22 - Uncapped
An absolutely massive, bruising defender, Scales' ability to bulldoze and bully forwards without ever quite fouling them is genuinely remarkable. He's not going to set any records for pace - most likely, he'd struggle to catch up to your average pitch invader - but with his effortless calm, maturity and gift for correct anticipation, there's hope that he might be the worthy central defensive partner Clevinger has been crying out for for years.

22 - LB - Caracal Page (Image Starling) - Age 26 - 6 caps
Strong, athletic and even handsome, Page cuts a more dashing figure than a fullback with a penchant for rotating professional fouls really ought to. Page looks to make an impact in all phases of play, but he's an intelligent operative who knows when to keep his powder dry.

Midfielders
4 - HM - Rook Timekeeper (Image Sabrefell Moths) - Age 29 - 64 caps, 2 goals
An elegant player with a strapping physique, Timekeeper offers both silk and steel in equal measure. With pace, technique and strength, he roves the midfield not only able to whisk the ball away, but with plenty of ideas for where it can go afterwards. A thumping shot doesn't hurt, though in fairness it's usually thumped into the stands, or a nearby street.

7 - RW - Tambra Matalin (Image Revolutionaries) - Age 27 - Uncapped
Matalin spread her wings and flew in recent years, an elegant, intelligent and reliably lethal winger. She's got a good measure of pace, but it's her poise and technique that have elevated her to a top-class operative. Believed to be a rather sensitive soul off the pitch, which may prove culturally incongruous with the rest of the team.

8 - CM - Renate March (Image North Laithland) - Age 24 - 6 caps, 1 goal
March has risen up the ranks from the lower leagues. Any purely technical player at that level will get the legs hacked under them, so March had to learn not just to be better than those around her, but quicker, harder and nastier, too. She's taken these lessons to heart even as her career has blossomed.

11 - LW - Lili Marinca (Image Chromatik) - Age 26 - 15 caps, 4 goals
Tiny and boxy, Marinca's deft and two-footed and loves to make unpredictable jinking runs and long stints in possession. She's a natural fit for a dominant side, and Nephara want to dominate. What makes it worse for opposing defences is she won't stop bloody smiling. Her performances reliably put smiles on Nepharan faces, too.

13 - RW - Severine Reed (Image Raynor City United) - Age 28 - 62 caps, 20 goals
Elegant and refined, despite coming from Stahlburg, Reed's instantly recognisable from the intricate and connected vine tattoos linking both arms. She's also instantly recognisable from the absolutely vicious right-footed deliveries of crosses and shots. Her absence through injury sorely missed at World Cup 90, she's taken on a talismanic importance to the side.

14 - AM - Thalassa Fletcher (Image La Nueva Avenida) - Age 29 - 45 caps, 14 goals
No, not that Fletcher, the other Fletcher. Exene is the rags-to-riches story; Thalassa's got pedigree and is living up to it. Not as likable a person, not seen as a natural scrapper, but living in Farfadillis at times like these proves she's harder than given credit for. Statuesque, arrogant, and crisp on the ball. Fletcher never puts a foot wrong. It almost feels like she plays the game in stiletti.

15 - LW - Ana Crowcombe (Image Avenida Leal) - Age 22 - Uncapped
Originally trained as a striker, Crowcombe's stubborn refusal to grow above 5'2" made it inevitable she'd be shunted out to the wing. It proved inspired. Crowcombe is near impossible to peg down on the pitch through her quick wits, quicker feet and obscenely slippery movement. The only question marks concern her finishing and her mercurial state of mind, with reports from Farfadillis suggesting she goes through multiple mental breaks a year. It's probably fine.

16 - CM - Pernille Brand (Image Brinemouth) - Age 28 - 24 caps, 6 goals
A beautifully elegant player on the ball, with boundless vision and a passing range to match. Unusually for stereotypes of Nepharan players, Brand isn't particularly physically robust, though she's certainly not unathletic. She's also not quite the most consistent of players. But on her day, she can single-handedly win a midfield battle. 16 is her signature number, for whatever reason.

19 - HM - Feo Tapper (Image Aleiusia Capital) - Age 24 - 14 caps
Tapper has excelled as a box-to-box midfielder for a struggling Leichhardt, diligent and determined, but in a more dominant side his talents lend himself as a destroyer. He's able and willing to run forward, but his leading instinct is to win the ball high and get it moving fast. Always laughing.

23 - AM - Lindse Kvasina (Image Sabrefell Athletic) - Age 24 - 11 caps, 4 goals
Kvasina's arrogant even by Nepharan standards, a diva reputation backed up by an ample supply of talent, guts and graft. She's hard work off the pitch, but at least she'll work hard on it. Even if she didn't, though, her natural poise on the ball and talent for improvisation would make up for it all. Poses far more of a risk off the pitch than on it.

Forwards
9 - ST - Gareth Pawnbroker (Image Coret Hawks) - Age 28 - 15 caps, 5 goals
Pawnbroker is an absolute colossus, and it's hard to think of him as anything other than one of nature's Plans B. His career's hit stops and starts, but at the Hawks, he ascended to the sort of all-action battering ram that can single-handedly lay waste to defences, a man worth building an attack around.

10 - ST - Bravura Harper (Image Ulsa) - Age 23 - 19 caps, 11 goals
A brash, swaggering striker, Harper loves taking on first-time shots, and her hammer of a left boot ensures that isn't a waste of a chance. Backs herself to get on the scoresheet, sets herself high expectations, and reliably meets them. She's relentlessly single-minded in pursuit of perfection, and doesn't really have any interests outside football. But evaluated as a footballer, not a dinner companion, you won't find fault.

21 - ST - Latona Basilisk (Image Mâ Âlâmëómë) - Age 31 - 81 caps, 48 goals
C75 Young Galactico, WC87 Champion
Former Young Galactico, currently the most prolific striker in the world's strongest league, Basilisk is self-assured to the point of parody, right to the point of having made 'Basilisking' - purported to be her petrifying stare one-on-one with goalkeepers - not only part of her brand, but trademarked. So you'd better believe it matters to say: she's very nearly as good as she thinks she is. Moxham decided only Basilisk had the moxie to pull off the 21 without her. Then came back to reclaim it. Now she's gone again, so Basilisk's gone through a lot of shirt numbers.

Cabo Azure National Football Team "Las Maçaricas"

After an unsuccessful qualifying campaign, manager Paulinho changed tactics for the Cup of Harmony in the hope of finding a plan that better suited the skill of his players and addressed the loss of key goal scorer Adalberto Montenegro. With only a few months between the end of qualifying and the beginning of the Cup, and those taken up with the end of the domestic season and the IFCF preliminary rounds, there was precious little time for the team to adjust to its new paradigm, and it showed. The fullbacks bounded forward recklessly and sometimes uselessly, leaving the centerbacks exposed, and young Narciso Maciel, as the pivot of the three-man midfield, consistently failed to divide his attention between offense and defense.

Despite the team’s relative struggles in the Cup of Harmony, Paulinho has indicated that he intends to change little in the fortieth Copa Rushmori, save for swapping out a few parts here or there. The players will be more familiar with the system, and a longer camp will have given them the opportunity to work out a few of the kinks which held them up in the Licentian Isles.

Tactics
Image
Cabo Azure plays a free-flowing, athletic game that values individual effort over team chemistry and the ability of defenders to get forward over their ability to play compact. The type of player Azureans prefer is typified in Amilcar Branco, a pacey left back who frequently overlaps and sets up chances in the box.

The Gaffer
An amiable, always-smiling man in his sixties who's been in Azurean football as long as anyone can remember, Paulinho has helmed the Maçaricas since their debut in the seventy-sixth Baptism of Fire. Throughout WC90 qualifying and into the Cup of Harmony, Paulinho managed at times to develop something of an identity, which is more than could be said for previous iterations of the Maçaricas. With the win over Brenecia on the final matchday of qualifying and an invite to the Cup of Harmony, Paulinho's job remains safe.

Goalkeepers
GK - Ambrosio Gomez - 20 y/o - Olympic Thessia (MYT)
A former U18 player, earned the starting spot for Olympic in the Top League. Is expected to replace Antunes on the heels of a strong run of form in Mytanija.

GK - Rufino Antunes - 30 y/o - Lagostim
A tall, athletic shotstopper, not prone to coming off his line or making insane saves, but very rarely caught flat-footed.

GK - GIlberto Valente - 26 y/o - Portelo
Lithe and quick, but prone to overcommitting. Rose to prominence when Portelo did the double a season ago, winning the Liga Hidalgo Primer and the Copa Maçarica.

Defenders
RB - Amilcar Branco - 24 y/o - Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
A pacey fullback with a penchant for overlapping and one of the only young Azureans to produce abroad, in his case with frequent IFCF side Dhun Lagarr in Tikariot.

CB - Adão Moniz - 23 y/o - Reschensreppur (GRF)
A maddeningly inconsistent young centerback; seemingly a brick wall one match and a turnstile the next. Failed to adapt to the three-at-the-back as hoped, but may still develop.

CB - Deodato Medeiro - 24 y/o - Marine Coast United (VIL)
One of the first Azureans to play abroad, Medeiro has surprised many by earning a starting position with Marine Coast.

CB - Kevin Brandão - 26 y/o - Villa Arboles
A supremely reliable if unimpressive centerback who excels at defending set pieces.

LB - Ademar de Lima - 22 y/o - Sao Vicente
Branco's doppelganger; though less pacey and not as creative going forward, he is actually much better in 1v1 situations than his rival.

CB - Donato Brandão - 21 y/o - SC Lagos (BOL)
Along with his brother Kevin, one-half of the second set of brothers to play for the Maçaricas in their short history. Has struggled to find playing time at his club behind Bollonich international Klingto and Tikariotian prospect Teodor Finnman.

CB - Gabriel Mendez - 31 y/o - Perolas
One of the few remaining veterans from the original CR38 roster, Mendez has stepped back from being an every-game starter, but will likely see the pitch in a substitute role for one of the three.

FB - Marcelinho Costa - 22 y/o - Regium Immortum (OAM)
A largely unheralded fullback, he has made the most of the extra playing time gifted to him by his club's back-to-back IFCF seasons. A good all-round player, he figures to be a planned substitute where fresh legs are needed to see a match out.

FB - Norberto Carneiro - 28 y/o - Villa Silva
A serviceable backup fullback, he lacks de Lima's grit and Branco's offensive prowess, but can nevertheless be counted on for a shift when called upon.

Midfielders
MF - Narciso Maciel - 22 y/o - Colonial SIle (VIL)
A qualifying standout for his good decision making and off-ball movement, Maciel is tipped as a likely starter in the revamped 5-3-2 for the Maçaricas.

MF - Abilio Serra - 33 y/o - Lagostim
The Lagostim captain lost a step over the long qualifying campaign, but he is still the best midfielder Cabo Azure when it comes to making smart passes. Expect him to get forward less and rely more on laying off to Ferreira.

MF - Marciano Ferreira - 27 y/o - Sao Cristobal
A prototypical left winger, good at getting the ball forward and into the box and not much else. His technicality leaves a lot to be desired, especially on defense, but he can generally move fast enough to make up for it.

MF - Quirino Alves - 33 y/o - Villa Arboles
A defensive-minded center-mid, capable of disrupting plays and winning duels in midfield but running out of options the further upfield you expect him to play.

MF - Nataniel Reis - 29 y/o - Pemba
The Pemba captain and a multiple MVP in the Liga Hidalgo Segundo, Reis was crucial to his team's promotion and subsequent top-half finish. A prototypical CAM, scores goals and finds runners in the box. Likely an offensive sub or a rotational starter.

CM - Seth Rathbone - 19 y/o - Portelo
A star of the Di Bradini Cup, now playing for league favorites Portelo. A strong, mature center-mid who nevertheless needs to work on his intangibles.

MF - Marco Lobo - 21 y/o - Villa Silva
After being signed from the dregs of the Liga Hidalgo Segundo, Lobo has evolved into an every-game starter for Silva, based on his preternatural awareness and excellent pass placement.

Forwards
FW - Cleto Silveira - 24 y/o - Vantanoch FC (TKT)
Silveira stepped up significantly in the absence of Adalberto Montenegro in the Cup of Harmony, ensuring his starting position is safe for now. Quick, instinctive, it remains to be seen if his leadership is sufficient to bring this team forward.

FW - Fulvio Dantas - 30 y/o - Cidade de Prata
A versatile player currently slotted as the more withdrawn of two strikers alongside Cleto Silveira, though will probably split starting with “Os Dos Vascos.”

FW - Nelson Botehlo - 27 y/o - Villa Arboles
The heir apparent to the legendary Adalberto Montenegro, Botehlo failed to perform well enough to pursuade Paulinho to keep the old system. Still a big target forward and a major threat on set pieces.

FW - Vasco Gouveia - 22 y/o - Tikariot City FC (TKT)
A wily, creative forward who's found a home with one of Tikariot's most storied clubs. Still maddeningly inconsistent for the national team, but when he's on, he's on. One-half of "Os Dos Vascos", viewed in the press as the future of Azurean football.

FW - Vasco Cardoso - 19 y/o - Whitepill (EUR)
A promising young man who's had to learn a lot about himself since moving to the Euran second tier. The other half of “Os Dos Vascos”

FW - Arsenio Galma - 27 y/o - Pemba
A late-blooming striker who surprised many by being a factor in qualifying. Skilled with long-range shots, penalties, and set pieces.

FW - Nicodemo Corte-Real - 20 y/o - Corn Palace (SFD)
One of the emerging crop of big Azurean center forwards that has come into vogue, Corte-Real has a reputation as an excellent set-piece player and good with his back to goal.

A Note On Yue (IC)/Chinese (OOC) Names

Chinese names, and therefore, Xinhuanese names, differ from the rest of the world (and are therefore similar to Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Hungarian names) in that the family name comes before the given name. Please note that while some nations may capitalise the family name, here they will not be. Please keep this in mind while roleplaying — a player called "Chen Yongrui" would be referred to as "Mr. Chen" in correspondence, or when being addressed, and not "Mr. Yongrui". When in doubt, simply use the whole name, or telegram this account for clarification.

The same Chinese surname may be romanised in different ways. The surname 黄 may be romanised as either Huang (standard Chinese/Yueyu), Wee, Ooi (both Hokkien), Ng (either Hokkien or Teochew) or even Wong (Cantonese). Similar to real life, a different romanisation mean that the person comes from a different language group. The character for the surname, however, will remain the same.

A new President marks a new foreign policy; and with it, a new era in sporting relations as Xinhua sends a team of twenty-three players to the Copa Rushmori (拉什莫尔足球杯) to build relations with other Rushmori countries. Expectations are not exactly high; though there is hope that the country will be able to make itself more known on the regional stage with its exploits in sporting competitions, given how sports-crazy this region is. Located to the south of Yuezhou (exact location TBD), the nation has quietly kept itself going over the past hundred or so years, slowly building itself to becoming a rapidly-industrialising power in the 1970s and becoming granted the status of a newly-industrialised economy in the 1990s.

The Xinhua Football Association (XFA) has given the task of assembling a side to aging manager Liang Wei (梁伟). He is expected to prioritise defence heavily, while breaking on counterattacks very quickly and the usage of overlapping wingbacks, citing the successful Yue manager Yuan Zilai as inspiration.

ImageImageImage
Home, away, alternate; home and away kits reflect the colours on the Xinhuanese national flag, while the alternate kit, adopting the colours of the flag of Rushmore, is an expression of hope of greater integration and commitment to and with the region.

Xinhua will name eleven starters and twelve names on the bench, with up to three substitutes. In the unlikely event that they make it to extra time, a fourth substitute will be taken. Tumbra will not play for penalties and will try as often as possible to finish a match in ninety or a hundred and twenty minutes.

Tactical Set-Up

3-5-2, with overlapping wingbacks that advance far up the pitch. Wang is a bona fide wingback; Kwek was converted from a winger. Both will not track back too far. This squad does not have much in the way of strength, but what they lack in it, they make up for in agility. The main dribblers in the team are the aforementioned Wang and Kwek, as well as Lee Yingyue, though Tao is the team's main creative outlet. The team will sit deep, look to patiently dispossess the ball, then rush up in a counter. Chen is the team's main finisher, and is very tall by Xinhua standards; standing at 185cm.

THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE UNITED SOCIALIST STATES OF PRIDNESTROVIA
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL TEAM

The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia is now familiar with both failure and humiliation. A 5-3 loss to Sargossa tends to do that to people, let alone an entire nation. Time to avenge the loss and humiliation then, but first the Pridnestrovian national football team must make it through the group stage first before they can even think about winning the Copa Rushmori.

BASIC INFORMATION
Name of nation: The Democratic People's Republic of the United Socialist States of Pridnestrovia

Team colors: Green and red
Style modifier: +3.00 (still focused on attacking football but hopefully not to the extent of sacrificing defensive solidity this time around)
Formation: 3-5-2

THE HERALD
PRO DEMS CRUSH NATIONALS TO EARN DECISIVE MAJORITY
Sisi Sharpe Football Correspondent

The counting is all but done. Just seven seats are yet to be called, and those are almost certain regardless. Pavel Chambers has conceded the federal election, and Alisander Pike will be Nephara's new Margrave.

It is news that will be a relief to the Progressive Democrats, who had begun to fear that the arrival of the Liberal Alliance between the two sides, and favouring the Nationals, had doomed them. It will be a vindication for Pike himself, who kept an unusually tight discipline. Proclaiming himself a man for 'the people, not the factions', he was neither the preferred man of the hard-left or the centre but managed to get every wing of the party to accept him.

Not so the Nationals, who had been the model of discipline under Ulrica Lindt but fell to pieces in the succession plan. A brutal internal battle between Medina Klose, the highly respected Minister for Foreign Affairs who was Nephara's leading signatory of the Varakoula Accords, and Chambers, the chosen man, lead to mass leaks and some scarring blows. The Pro Dems were only too happy to borrow Klose's own scathing lines of attack on Chambers' record and competence, and the electorate listened.

Image
The Progressive Democrats swept to a commanding majority.

Pike, a union lawyer from a lower middle-class background, was also all too happy to attack Chambers on his background in business and finance. "My opponent is a man who tracks the economy from the stock market, not the farmer's market," he remarked during a particularly withering debate. "It doesn't matter if marchers are doing it tough so long as his mates in high finance are filling their pockets."

Ironically, if Chambers had mates in high finance, they were probably backing one of the newcomers on the scene. The 'Wake the Sleeping Giant' party emerged to snatch four of Nephara's ten most affluent seats, and no others, on a laissez-faire capitalist platform in line with the right wing of most of Nephara's contemporaries. Just as the Pro Dems have Moving Forward and Solidarity to their left, now the Nationals are at last outflanked decisively on the right, albeit split between the Wakes, the Returners' pseudo-nationalist approach and the increasingly irrelevant Violets' libertarianism.

Caught in the centre, the Alliance were crushed. Their high point of a decade or two ago seems unthinkable now, and both major parties were eager to paint a picture of an electorate that tired of inevitable minority government. "The people want a government with a clear and unambiguous mandate, one capable of decisive action in a crisis," Chambers claimed at one rally. The votes appear to agree, though Chambers may not like their conclusion.

Image
Chambers (left) won the battle of internal politicking,
but could not beat Pike (right) in the war of the election.

From an electoral perspective, this was the first election in a while where the Progressive Democrats unambiguously swept the cities, hugely important in such an urbanised nation as Nephara. The Nationals had a solid grip on Brinemouth and made inroads into Crisisbless, the Alliance peppered middle-class districts everywhere with specks of yellow, and wherever unemployed university graduates proliferated, so too did green dots. Now, each urban centre resembles a bloodbath on the electoral map, and that is precisely what it represented to most other parties.

Four seats will be a victory for the Wakes. It will be a crippling disappointment for the Returners, who ultimately lost out. They and Moving Forward made unlikely bedfellows, but both were determined opponents of intervention in Nyowani Kitara, the main foreign policy issue of the election. But after a satisfactory if imperfect conclusion to the war, the backlash is undeniable, each party losing roughly half their seats. Solidarity!, the party that seemed the most content to be backing the KPWC, benefited.

Pike's predecessor Crowell had been an outspoken opponent of the war, but this election, the Pro Dems kept their mouths shut. Again, a feat of discipline they are not generally associated with. Most of what Pike has said about the Accords, and the deals required to seal them, is that he intends to honour Nepharan commitments set out by Lindt and Klose. This will mean support in Kitaran elections, a presence in the region more broadly, and is understood to mean that Nephara will finally acknowledge the United Republics of Yuezhou.

From a foreign perspective, this will mean Nephara again takes a leftward turn. Nephara has always been a social democracy, and has never been bothered by the label of democratic socialism. One imagines the news will be welcome in Mytanija and Savojarna, as well as up north in Bastion, where Harry Barnham's Social Party have cemented themselves as a resurgent force over long-time National allies, the Liberals. Pike's key campaign promises included infrastructure overhauls, bolstering the UBI, and a 'restructuring' of the military - which may also have Bastion's attention, given the limitations of Nepharan logistics were a key factor in Euran involvement in the war.

For now, however, the Progressive Democrats - the traditional juggernaut of Nepharan politics - can sleep soundly, their near-decade-long absence from Corvistone's central chambers at last at an end.

Copa Rushmori Preview: What to Watch For

A lot can change in four years. Four years ago, the Maçaricas of Cabo Azure were less than underdogs, the dregs of the region finally scraping a team together to compete in its first Copa Rushmori. That team managed a single result, a 1-0 victory over a distracted Oberour Ar Moro side, which would get its revenge by sweeping the Maçaricas in World Cup 90 qualifying. Two years later, after a Baptism of Fire silver medal and a feckless qualifying campaign, the Maçaricas would win their group in CR39 having soundly defeated a heavily-favored Græntfjall side and lost a thrilling match against Mytanija. That match nevertheless saw the debut and subsequent hattrick of young Vasco Gouveia, whose inconsistency since has mirrored that of his team and led many to wonder: is Cabo Azure actually good?

The World Cup 90 qualifying campaign was no help in this regard; the Maçaricas failed to sniff qualifying, but defeated Brenecia 3-2 on the final matchday, and drew both Brenecia and Banija away, 1-1 and 2-2 respectively. Following that relative disappointment, the Maçaricas rebounded with a surprise quarterfinal appearance in the Cup of Harmony, where they were dispatched by a superior Nyowani Kitara. If we follow the "heartbeat" pattern, then the Maçaricas are due for another quiet tournament, but all other indicators would seem to show this team is on the up and up.

What To Watch For vs. Three Golden Kingdoms
A little-known nation not seen in Rushmori competition for nearly thirty years*, Three Golden Kingdoms presents something of a wildcard in the group stage. It would be easy to write them off as Three Easy Points (we're claiming that if it goes viral), but the reality is unranked sides, including Cabo Azure, have a history of pulling off upsets in the Copa. Expect Paulinho to stick to the script here, as he has no incentive to take risks in the first matchup against an unknown opponent.

What To Watch For vs. Isle Noire
Here's what to listen for: "The Blue Cape plays the Black Island" and variations thereupon, repeated not less than 1,000 times between now and the final whistle. The Sentinels made their debut in the previous Copa Rushmori, where they managed an impressive but ultimately pointless 6-3 win over Bollonich after failing to amass a single point in the first two match days. Nevertheless, Isle Noire will have learned from their experience in the previous Copa and can be expected to pose a greater threat to Cabo Azure this time around.

What To Watch For vs. Norrhem
A team which debuted alongside Cabo Azure in the thirty-eighth Copa Rushmori and ended that tournament with a nearly identical record of 1-2, Norrhem has progressed little since, not entering the next Copa Rushmori or any other international football competitions in the interim. Despite this, the Maçaricas will need to earn their result here, especially if Paulinho looks to rest his starters ahead of the final matchday vs. Sargossa.

What to Watch For vs. Sargossa
Wow, talk about a big swing. After the first three matchdays facing relative minnows, Cabo Azure will enter the water with a shark-scratch that, with a megalodon. Sargossa has won every Copa Rushmori that Cabo Azure has entered, and this match will be the ultimate test for a team looking to break into the upper echelons of Rushmori football. Versus Sargossa, expect a shootout between two offensively-minded squads and a lot of bloodied and bruised legs, as well as a lot of chatter regardless of the result.

Copa Rushmori XL

Sargossa - 'The Corsairs'

Head Coach

Alejandro Echeverría

After a long spell under foreign management the Football Federation have turned to a domestic option for the next of their never-ending new dawns. Echeverría was a left sided wing wizard in his player days and considered one of the more technically gifted players to don the darker blue. He was previously part of the national team coaching set-up before trying his hand at management, most notably at Sporting San Marquez and then Sportivo Soluca. Turning the club from the capital into perennial title challenges domestically, albeit without actually lifting the SuperLiga trophy, and has gained a reputation for a sardonic line in press conferences. Showing utter disdain for any question he considers to be stupid. Which appears to be all of them.

Backroom Staff

Assistant Head Coach: Jorge Soto
Assistant Head Coach: Miguel Marí
Defensive Coach: Iker Conde
Attacking Coach: Jordi Suárez
Set Pieces Coach: Matías Sáez
Goalkeeping Coach: Dario Almirón
Fitness Coach: Luis Miguel Sacristán
Team Doctor: Dr Carla Segura

Talent

GK: 1. Alejandro Martínez (31) – Sportivo Soluca
GK: 13. Sergio Arrabal (31) – Alianza Jucaro
GK: 25. Zacarías Cotilla (22) – Rubio Bayamo

As a teenager Martínez was touted as a future star by no less a luminary as former Corsairs’ keeper and coach Martín Tejera. He’s now spent nearly a decade proving that praise to be justified. Sergio Arrabal spent his formative years as a hugely talented understudy at Ciudad Soluca. He had to move to Alianza to finally prove he had what it takes to be a number one. Cotilla provides a very highly regarded back-up option.

DR: 2. Tobías Figueroa (26) – El Nacional
DC: 5. Iván Franco (26) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 6. Sebastián Cáceres (22) – Sporting San Marquez
DL: 3. Alfonso Barrueco (27) – Ciudad Soluca
DLC: 12. Andrés Obregón (24) – Sportivo Soluca
DRC: 14. Máximo Moya (29) – Sporting San Marquez
DL: 19. Juan Manuel Martí (31) – Sportivo Soluca
DC: 21: Joaquín Sanz (22) – El Nacional

The new coach uses the traditional Sargossan 5-3-2 formation as the foundation for his tactical schemes. Wing backs play a crucial role in those schemes, and in Figueroa and Barrueco Echeverría now has access to two players he’d previously been plotting how to stop. Cáceres and Sanz are two excellent young centrebacks but the international retirements of Juan Esnáider and Víctor Miralles had left the centre a little short of experience. Iván Franco, club captain for Echeverría at Sportivo, and club teammate Andrés Obregón add quality but are uncapped at international level. The talented Máximo Moya is expected to inherit the captain’s armband from Esnáider.

DMC: 4. Marcos Águila (28) – El Nacional
AMR: 7. Édgar Elvira (29) – Dínamo Maturín
MC: 8. Enrique González (29) – Ciudad Soluca
AML: 11. Jorge Sarmiento (24) – Sportivo Cordova
AMRC: 15. Agustín Soria (27) – Sportivo Soluca
MC: 16. Facundo Franco (21) – Sportivo Soluca
DMC: 18. Alejandro Gaich (23) – Ciudad Soluca
MC: 22. Juan Sebastián Varela (29) – Alianza Jucaro
AMLC: 24. Martín de la Cavallería (22) – Dínamo Maturín

The return to a midfield three won’t please the wingers but should certainly benefit Martín de la Cavallería, who could be handed the chance to occupy the number ten role he performs to such impressive effect domestically. Although Agustín Soria, who occupied the same role in Echeverría’s Sportivo Soluca side will have some say on the matter. Behind him the coach likes to have a box-to-box player sat alongside someone who pulls the strings from deep. One of González, Varela or Águila would be suited for the deeper role but perhaps now lack the lung capacity to burst up the pitch for ninety minutes. One of Echeverría’s last acts as Sportivo Soluca boss was to sanction the signing of Facundo Franco from Estrella Torreón, he may prove to be the missing piece in that puzzle.

FLC: 9. Mauricio Sainz (32) – Ciudad Soluca
FC: 10. Mateo Manzanares (26) – Dínamo Maturín
FRLC: 10. Jeremías Saavedra (24) – Ciudad Soluca
FRC: 20. Juan Pablo Montenegro (22) – Alianza Jucaro
FL: 23. Eliseo Fonseca (25) – Sportivo Soluca

Coach’s come and go but Mateo Manzanares will still lead the line for the national side. Saavedra and Montenegro are both slight, tricky forwards. Not unlike Manzanares himself. But with the coach liking to have a big man up front their chances of a starting berth seem pretty slim. And with the old warhorse Mauricio Sainz now comfortably the wrong side of thirty a new focal point of the attack will probably be sought. Eliseo Fonseca performs that very role with distinction for Sportivo and would appear to be the ideal candidate. Capping a remarkable rise for a player who four years ago was plying his trade in the third tier.

Style

After the tactical innovations of Tikariotian Brian McAllister, and his 4-3-3 to 5-2-3 via a 4-5-1(ish), the tactics are now in the hands of a man who very much favours the traditional Sargossan 5-3-2. And it’s not just the formation that will differ from the previous regime. It’s often said a coach’s formation is reflective of that coach’s playing days. That is not the case with Alejandro Echeverría. On the pitch Echeverría was a supremely talented winger (a position he very rarely deploys) and was one of the more technically accomplished players to pull on the darker blue of Sargossa. His gifts would have made him very suitable for the short passing patterns of player favoured by his predecessor. But Echeverría the coach has no time for those short passing patterns. His sides have a reputation for direct football. On the ground or in the air, it doesn’t really matter provided it goes forward.

Another mark of an Echeverría side is its proficency at set pieces. In each of the last two SuperLiga seasons no team has managed more goals from freekicks and corners than Sportivo Soluca. Matías Sáez is the coach credited with masterminded their set piece routines and he has joined his boss as part of the national team set-up.

The SuperLiga is quite a physical league so challenges can often be described as 'uncompromising' and cards are pretty common. Gamesmanship, while not encouraged, is not entirely uncommon. But diving is considered particularly stigmatic so Sargossan players are unlikely to be found doing it.

Due to it being based on Vietnamese language and culture, Bannin names will be written with last name first, followed by middle name and first name. The common way of referring is by middle and first name instead of last name.

DAI BAN NATIONAL REPRESENTATIVES

INFORMATION

Manager (Tổng Quản - 總管): Phùng Nhật Duật
Trigram: DBN
Nickname: The Waves
Demonym: Bannin

The Kingdom of Dai Ban have officially confirmed its team of representatives that will partake in their very first association football tournament in Rushmore, despite never have had a professional football team or an official football association. An island nation that has kept itself fairly isolated from the wider world so far, Dai Ban was only recently exposed to football due to the huge influx of Mavinese refugees, whose country recently ceased to exist. Although the nation has a long history of playing cuju, a similar sport imported from neighboring Yuezhou, its complete lack of experience in football will be apparent as the newcomers navigate the complexity of this organized international tournament for the first time.

All representatives of Dai Ban were selected among the best cuju players of the Imperial Court through a rigorous selection process. Dai Ban adheres to a strict tradition of only allowing native Bannins chosen by the Ministry of Rites and approved by the King to represent the country, which has created dissatisfaction among the Mavinese community who understand and have more experience with the sport. It remains to be seen whether Dai Ban will change its stance on the matter in the future.

Höll confirms royal wedding as Crown Princess set to remarry

The Höll last night formally confirmed the long-rumored engagement of Crown Princess Kassandra to Commander Gunnlaugur Rikharðsson, putting an end to years of speculation over the nature of the relationship between the couple. Long considered Græntfjall’s worst kept secret (or second worst kept, after that thing with the carrot), the romance between the two dates back over two decades, with some suggestions they were romantically involved prior to Kassandra’s first marriage to Baron Konrad von Salznau, who passed away ten years ago. The ceremony will mark the first royal wedding to place on Græntfjaller soil in modern history, Kassandra’s first wedding having been in Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland and her mother’s in exile. It also marks the first time a member of the royal family has remarried since the practice of sister-wives was abolished in the nineteenth century.

Yet for all the modernity and novelty, the ceremony itself looks set to be a traditional affair. Both confessing Catholics, the couple will be married by Græntfjall’s most senior priest, Cardinal Jannik Eyjarsson, at the country’s oldest and largest church, the Basilika of Sankt Jakob the Badass in Háttmark. Following last month’s twin explosions that saw an alleged terror cell prematurely detonate bombs, killing themselves in the process, security will be on high alert. Protests are already expected, as Commander Rikharðsson is a controversial figure for his service record, having been accused of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Montaña Verde and Berdeng Bundok, while his training of special forces in Ha’Yarok has been criticized given the HDF’s alleged human rights abuses. One such protestor may be the new Leader of the Opposition, Left-slate leader Ingiberg Leifsson, who is not expected to be among the invitees given he once attempted a citizens’ arrest of the groom.

Former Prime Ministers Zóphonías Juliusson and David Austmannsson put aside their political differences to extend congratulations to the couple, while their successor, Kaija Michaelsdóttir, has promised the government’s “full support” for security and crowd control measures. The government have temporarily waived anti-whaling regulations to permit a traditional whalehunt in the days leading up to the ceremony, which is sure to be the highlight of the social calendar this season. The invitation list remains a closely guarded secret for now, but members of the Akhdari royal family, Schutzenphalian nobility (among them, extended in-laws of the Crown Princess’s late first husband), and Ha’Yaroki government are among those to have already confirmed their attendance already. The invitation list will not be all wealthy royals and glitzy celebrities: ten percent of the seats in the Basilika have been set aside for ordinary members of the public, to be drawn at random by lottery.

Politically, the wedding will be seen as strengthening the Crown Princess’s claim to the throne. Though her sister Jessika is not believed to have ambitions in this regard, historically successions have not always been straightforward affairs, and Kassandra’s right-wing politics and unfiltered speaking style have not always endeared her to the Thing. “Marrying a Græntfjall shuts off any concerns about a foreigner exercising control over the Queendom,” says royal affairs analyst Þórunn Hrannarsdóttir. “And her choice of partner also sures up support among key constituencies: the armed forces, the political right, and the surprisingly numerous fans of extrajudicial executions.” Religious affairs commentator Bjarkan Damonsson noted that by blessing the wedding, the “politically ambitious” Cardinal Eyjarsson was playing a “shrewd card” that would not “go unnoticed in Mons Viridis”.

OK, so a royal wedding RP. Yes, I know. Not the most original idea, but this is a story beat I’ve been trailing for ages and want to get out of the way.

If you would like to have your characters attend the wedding, you can list them here. Note that you don’t have to actually RP this, just having a list of names gives me something to RP, so don’t worry if you don’t want to write anything about the story itself. As much as anything, this is a good chance to name an ambassador, which is the sort of thing I assume happens in the background anyway.

You don’t need to be a member of Rushmore, but Rushmori nations will be given priority when it comes to mentioning their characters being received, etc. Any questions TG/DM me.

GOALKEEPERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Joel Latibeaudiere (25 Y/O) Dursten Easterners, Image
Lance Logan (19 Y/O) 1830 Cathair, Image
Mohammad Mandrea (31 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

Latibeaudiere, credited for his sharp reflexes and precision is going to remain the first choice goalkeeper of the team and is predicted to start in most of the matches. However Lance Logan is the player who is going to be the player to watch this year. Logan had an impressive performance in the U-18 World Cup, helping his team reach the Quarter Finals. He has been frequently compared to Joel and Joel's position in the team is not going to remain permanent like earlier. Logan saw a surprising move to Audioslavian club, 1830 Cathair which is perhaps the biggest transfer in the history of Brook football. Maximilian Kubrick is going to rotate the goalkeepers quite often throughout the qualifying stage. Apart from Joel and Lance, experienced Mohammad Mandrea is also going to remain in the team. Mandrea still continues to perform t Mandrea will not disappoint the team if he is brought into the field at any point of time.

DEFENDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Nate Harlow (28 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Geovani Angeles (20 Y/O) Urrhed FC, Image
Kearyn Caceres (22 Y/O) Steinaux, Image
Adrian Gigore (31 Y/O) AC Dason, Image
Jayden Alonso (23 Y/O) Strange City, Image
Rasihawn Donaldson (26 Y/O) Regiis Dreamland, Image
Rakesh Dutta (28 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Travor Scott (30 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image

The defense is where majority of changes have been made by new manager Kubrick. The defense now comprises of two new faces in the starting lineup. Caceres is a typical full-back and can play both on the left and right sides. He is quite the safe full-back, who never makes a mistake in defensive positioning. He made a recent departure to Steainaux of Graintfjall in hopes of gaining more experience. Caceres had played really well in the Twin Premier League and that is what caught the attention of manager Maximilian Kubrick's attention. Caceres is going to be an experimental starter throughout the qualifiers and his performance in the qualifiers is going to decide his future. The second new comer in the team is young Geovani Angeles who had completed a transfer to Chromatik Urrhed FC. Geovani is young defender who recently won the Twin Premier League with Dreamland City. He has been a very important part in Dreamland's defense and has a bright future ahead of him. Angeles plays a crucial role in the defense and builds the opportunities from the defense. Soham plans of making him play most of the matches to test out his abilities. Apart from the newcomers, there remains the likes of Nate Harlow, the most capped Brook defender. Harlow's specialty is to understand his team no matter which player plays and that makes him the first pick in the team. He evenly makes contributions to the midfield and adapts to his team mates' style on the field very quickly. Adrian Gigore is going to be a starting option at the right back. Gigore is very energetic on the field and the best tackler on the team.
However, Kubrick would not be playing the starting team at every match as he wants his players to get adequate rest and thus the backup options in the team would be Jayden Alonso, a very fast and energetic player, Alonso focuses on assisting and scoring goals. Tough Rasihawn Donaldson is also going to be there in the team. He has been a good substitute in the team for a long time and his ability to quickly adapt to the field whenever he is brought in is going to be really beneficial for Kubrick to try out his new team and strategies. Travor Scott who was the initial starter of the team didnt have a good season with Halebid and eventually saw his team getting relegated. Travor however will be in the bench, ready to step into the field and help his fellow teammates.

MIDFIELDERS

NAME AGE CLUB
Jean Jacks (26 Y/O) Swisston City FC,Image
Jean Pierre Polnareff (27 Y/O) Ancarea FC , Image
Laron Veum (26 Y/O) Athletic , Image
Alexis de la Vega (28 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image
Steve Dolphin (26 Y/O) AFC Richmond, Image
Vincent Mignolet (29 Y/O) Ribar PRD, Image
Andre Vandendriessche (21 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Andreas Roles (31 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image

If you want to have a particularly strong team with a good defense and a good attacking lineup, it would be necessary to strengthen the link between them which is the midfield. The midfield is perhaps the strongest point of the Brookstation national team. Starting with Jacks in the left to Veum in the right, the midfield has seen a number of changes this time. Jacks have been performing impressively and has improved a lot playing under Misra over the course of the past few years. Jean Pierre Polnareff is back in the squad, missing out on the last world cup due to an injury. Polnareff was always a great midfielder and in fact it would be safe to say that our win against Nephara came more or less thanks to him. Polnareff would be Brookstation's first choice free kick taker. Finally there would be Veum in the right, will allow him to open attacks from the right. Veum's chemistry with Jacks and Polnareff has been impressive which makes it easier for the team to coordinate better. Veum is a promising midfielder .Veum tends to come deeper and get open inside the hole between the opposition lines which has helped the team to get goals earlier and hopefully will this time also. Alexis de la Vega will also be a regular starter who will be ready to come to the field at any point of the match when required. de la Vega has a lot of experience and he is going to be prepared to come out on the field. Vincent Mignolet is a new inclusion to the team seeing that he performed well in his club in Zeta Reka. Mignolet performs his role well and he exploits wide angles for chance creation. He does this primarily with through balls, where successful ones are important in determining the outcome of a counter-attack.

FORWARDS

NAME AGE CLUB
Leon Michael Robes(c) (28 Y/O) Other side of paradise, Image
John J Johnson (25 Y/O) Space Coast Rockets, Image
Alexander Cust(vc) (35 Y/O) Halebid Warriors, Image
Dwayne Onfroy (30 Y/O) Dreamland City, Image
Moussa Wague (23 Y/O) Regiis Dreamland, Image
Bruce Hoogewarf (18 Y/O) Coolville United FC, Image

There hasn't been any change in the attack as of yet. The attack is going to led by captain Leon Michael Robes as usual. Currently one of the best strikers' in the TPL, scored 30 goals last season and he is by far the most successful captain of Brookstation ever leading Brookstation to their first football trophy. He is a dangerous striker and has a beautiful style of play. Once he gets the ball to his feet, he rarely misses the chance to score. His assistant wingmen would be John J Johnson and Alexander Cust. John has a swift style of play and his long passes help setting up his fellow strikers. He is also a fast and agile winger who can overcome defenders with his speed. Cust is the oldest player in the team but he still remains the team's best dribbler. He is going to be the starting option but Kubrick will be swapping the strikers quite frequently. Onfroy is the player whom the fans want on the field due to the wide range of tricks he possesses and more importantly due to his ability to pull them off confidently. Wague has been Regiis Dreamland's breakout star this season. He was the top scorer of the Brook Football League and helped his team to get back in the Twin Premier League again. Wague has a good ability of crossing in the forward. And finally there is Hoogewarf, the captain of the U-18 national team who helped them reach the Quarter Finals of the U-18 World Cup. This tournament will be his opportunity to bring out his skills in front of the crowd and prove himself a worthy striker.

THE UNITED REPUBLICS OF YUEZHOU - NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM
月州联合共和国 - 国际足球队
Image
Badge and kits designed by Txakhaxi's Tahuatxi Storefront.

The first tournament of the Hayabusa Era, World Cup 90 Qualifiers, went about as well as expected. The Kandorese manager generally managed to win all the points he should've been winning with this Dragons squad, and made up for his slip-ups with some suprisingly positive results against South Newlandia and Zwangzug. The second tournament of the Hayabusa Era, Cup of Harmony 82, was also...fine. The Dragons managed to win their group after defeating Savigliane, then knocked out Estorvipa and Estorpiva before falling to Trolleborg in the Round of 16. Now, he faces his third chance to either overwhelm or underwhelm - getting Yuezhou over the hump in the Copa Rushmori, a tournament in which they've historically stagnated past the Round of 16. The first foreign manager of Yuezhou in decades has impressed with his high-flying, possession football and media savvy, but will he be able to deliver the deep tournament runs that the YFA craves? There's no better time to find out than now.

Manager: Ken Hayabusa, 48

Ken Hayabusa made his name in Kandorith with Higaku Antlers, earning promotion to the First Divison, and with Imakazawa Ravens, where he won four leagues and two cups in a legendary tenure. But it was his time with Kandorith's national team, where he took an ailing Lotus Warriors organization to a historic Cup of Harmony title and a return to World Cup qualification, where he really staked his claim to be one of the world's best managers. A huge enjoyer of life and football, he's usually cheerful and passionate, but can be calm and strict when needed. Taking a paternalistic approach to management, he believes wholly in team synergy and in his players' ability to play together, as well as in stylish attacking football. He's shown time and time again that his approach will work in Kandorith - how will it translate to Yuezhou?

Tactics:

Ken Hayabusa believes in controlling and attacking football, something that puts him at odds with virtually every other national team manager in Yue history. The priority is winning first and foremost, and Hayabusa is tactically flexible, but with a bevy of attacking talents to choose from, he's confident that the right eleven exists that can play beautiful football and win in a nation desperately in need of both. There may be a learning curve from the counterattacking football that Yuezhou is known for, but this is still a surprisingly skilled team with representatives from some of Rushmore's finest leagues, and this could really be a team to watch after a few matches.

With the ball, the team will play quickly and creatively, focusing on controlling the ball and dynamically exploiting weaknesses in the opponent's defense. Jiawei maintains some defensive coverage on the left flank, but if the game is under control Reeve will float forwards to provide width in the attack, forming a sort of 3-2-5 (Wen will also join the attackers) shape. Liu Huiying plays as a creative false-nine type, who will serve as a sort of offensive hub while dropping into midfield. Huang Shedong, formerly a striker, will play as a right inside-forward, using his speed to make runs in behind the shoulder of the defense and his technique to create and convert chances once in the box, while Luo provides width and support from the left-hand side. Wen Xiaohui and Li Jing, the two non-holding midfielders, will both be aggressively moving forward to join the attack and set up chances, with Wen often interchanging with Liu. Jiawei and Yuan are relatively uninvolved in the attack, although Li's ball-carrying and long-range passive often helps progress the ball in Yuezhou's third of the pitch, serving a key bridge between the defense and midfield.

Without the ball, the team defends from the front, relying on the pace and industry of the front three to harry opposing defenses and force mistakes. There sometimes is a sense of there being "attacking" and "defensive" blocks, the latter being comprised of the defense, Wan, and sometimes the versatile Li, and the former being everyone else. While this may feel somewhat disjointed in the early days, the idea is that successive lines can react quickly to the press being broken and move up to compensate and close off space. The fullbacks also tend to play very conservatively without the ball and in transitions, although Reeve will sometimes push up to counterattack, giving the team a solid defensive base without the ball to work from.

STARTERS

#01 - GK - LU Qiang (f) (陆蔷) - 34 - Guerrilla Cathair (AUD)
From an actual guerrilla in the Yue Civil War to Guerrilla Cathair, Lu Qiang is a fighter above all else. On the pitch, she’s more modern, better at playing the ball from the back, but undoubtedly worse at actually stopping the ball from going into the net. With Zhao Deliang on the rise behind her, this may be her final tournament as Yuezhou's undisputed #1 - but what a run it's been.
#14 - LB - JIAWEI Chuan (f) (佳薇川) - 29 - Tihon (CMT)
A quick, crafty full-back (or wing-back, or even winger if Yuezhou is really parking the bus) whose biggest weakness is a propensity to get forced off the ball. Will likely play more defensively than Reeve on the right-hand side.
#27 - CB - LI Jianguo (李建国) - 24 - FC Einheit Marnau (STL)
Despite his young age, Li is incredible on the ball, at his best in a three-man defense where he can make surging runs and spray accurate long-range passes with either foot. The physicality isn't quite there for a grueling qualifying campaign, although he’s working on it, but his vision and composure on the ball are just too good for Hayabusa to pass up in this system. Could this be his breakout?
#05 - CB - YUAN Mingrong (袁明荣) - 28 - Ararat (MYT)
An intelligent, cultured young center-back who's solid but still a bit raw with the ball. Showed enough promise in Mytanija as the best defender in an admittedly underwhelming Ararat defense to earn a shot, and has rapidly developed to a strong all-around center back who was the Top League's player of the season.
#13 - RB - Diadora REEVE (f) (利朵拉) - 29 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
Diadora Reeve is an athletic, relatively attack-minded fullback who provides an interesting tactical option for Yuezhou in place of Zhu Aiguo. We think she had a Yue grandfather or something, which is why she's turned up on the Yue national team despite everyone previously thinking she was Nepharim.
#08 (C) - CM/CAM - LI Jing (李精) - 32 - Steinaux (GRÆ)
Li Jing is very quick and excels on the counterattack as a creative or goalscoring threat. Has enjoyed increased praise lately for his exploits in Græntfjall due to the beginning of normalization in relations between the two countries.
#19 - CDM/CM - WAN Sheping (万射平) - 25 - Wirr Tsi (CMT)
An old-school, defensive-minded midfielder who's surprisingly good in the air despite being 5'8". Earned a move to countryman Zhaxi Nanlei’s Wirr Tsi squad a few seasons ago, and is rapidly becoming one of the best young players in Chromatika and a key figure in the newly-minted Red League juggernauts.
#18 - CAM - WEN Xiaohui (f) (文小辉) - 29 - Libertas Bergheim (SVJ)
Wen Xiaohui, the niece of controversial star midfielder Wen Xiaoli, has rapidly developed from Yuezhou’s next big thing to a star in her own right. She wasn't a great tactical fit for Yuan Zilai's or Lu Jialan’s style, but her pace and playmaking more than merit her inclusion in the first-choice starting eleven, and her breakout WCQ87 was a rare bright spot in an otherwise miserable qualifying campaign. Has stagnated a bit lately, even becoming a substitute under Kang Guilin, but has been rejuvenated creatively in Hayabusa's system.
#22 - LW/RW - LUO Dan (罗丹) - 29 - Coquitlam United (KSK)
A more mobile forward who can deputize capably on either wing or as an attacking midfielder, Luo is a dangerous scorer known for his quick-burst runs behind the defense, although he can be a little selfish at times. Will be playing as more traditional winger for the national team, but is also capable of playing as an inside-forward on the right or dropping back into a wide midfield position.
#10 - AM/SS - LIU Huiying (f) (刘辉映) - 29 - Sabrefell Moths (NPH)
Liu’s speed and devastating passing ability make her one to watch with every counterattack. Her high workrate, even on the defensive end, should theoretically make her a good candidate to slot into a false nine-esque offensive hub position, as she's now an attacking midfielder at the club level as well in the Zenith.
#09 - RAM/ST - HUANG Shedong (黄舍东) - 32 - Coret Hawks (NPH)
While not particularly good at hold-up play or in the air, Huang's blazing speed and technique mean he excels at exploiting gaps in the opponents' defense with his dribbling and short passes. A strong finisher, but relatively unproven leading a line by himself - maybe playing as an inside-forward will actually be better for him?

SUBSTITUTES
#26 - GK - ZHAO Deliang - 21 - Atletik Thessia (MYT)
An absolute goalkeeping phenom who won a historic Golden Ball (both in terms of position and age) en route to Jiangdong's first league title in years. A cool, confident, and physically imposing general on the pitch, albeit a bit traditionalist in playstyle.
#23 - GK - GUO Yanhong - 30 - Dhun Lagarr FC (TKT)
A modern sweeper-keeper and competent shot-stopper who is aggressive to a fault, but who had a strong enough season in Tikariot to earn a call-up.
#24 - LB - LU Lanying (f) - 23 - Rutland Dockside (CDG)
A quick, athletic left-back, Lu is strong when driving forwards and tracking back but could work on her crossing.
#06 - CB/CDM - GUO Xiawei - 31 - Urrheddiao (CMT)
Formerly a makeshift libero in a back three, Guo Xiawei has often been redeployed as a defensive midfielder. One of the first of his generation of Yue players to sign abroad, for since-relegated Tanques AOE of the Ko-orenite Top League, Guo has flashes of brilliance with the ball and is very good at reading and intercepting passes, but tends to make unforced errors on defense worryingly often. Thrown into the fire by Hayabusa, who hoped that his much-improved passing and dribbling touch will allow him to flourish in a back four, but is still a shade too error-prone compared to Yuan, Zhu, and Li.
#15 - CB/RB - ZHU Aiguo - 31 - Iturributa United (ASG)
An aggressive, versatile defender who likes to win balls and push forward with them. A center-back by trade, Zhu unexpectedly became Yuezhou's starting right-back under Lu Jialan - his emergence at the position earned him a transfer to Astograth as well as his starting spot, but he's now back to his natural position.
#25 - RB - DONG Xiaowang - 23 - Megabrantid (SRS)
A pacy, strong fullback well-suited to the modern game, although his rawness on the defensive end will make him more of a long-term project for new club Megabrantid. Could be creatively deployed as a winger in a pinch.
#07 - CDM - YANG Tao - 32 - Ephesian FC (ZWZ)
Energetic but not particularly skilled, Yang will be tasked with pressing aggressively, winning balls back before passing them to someone more creative, and kicking opponents to stop attacks.
#15 - CM - FANG Yuhui (f) - 25 - North Granby (CDG)
Not the most physically imposing, but seemingly endless stamina and excellent positioning mean she shows up almost everywhere on the pitch when needed to make a tackle. Not great offensively, but improving.
#11 - AM - TAO Beiliang - 30 - Korsbach (GRÆ)
A relentless source of energy, aggression, and creativity, Tao is still pretty inconsistent at times, but is a great student of the game. Originally outshone even Li Jing when the pair went abroad together, but his career has stalled a bit with Korsbach.
#77 - LAM/RAM - JIANG Jieren - 25 - Osarese Marcadia (AUD)
An incredibly quick winger, albeit one slightly out of place on the left, Jiang’s ball-retention skills need to work and he tends to play with too much ambition. Still, he’s absolutely electric when on, with a combination of scoring and playmaking on the counterattack that could really make an impact.
#36 - AM/ST - ZHENG Yuanjun (f) - 25 - Fiskadaha (PFA)
An intelligent, versatile attacker, Zheng is much more skilled as a playmaker than as a scorer, although her ability to find space with her runs has still gotten her a decent scoring record. Has become one of the Apex's premier attackers, but has yet to surpass the generation before her.
#21 - ST - JI Weibo - 25 - Brantisvogan (SRS)
While selfish to a fault and not the easiest personality to work with, Ji Weibo has laid waste to South Newlandia to the tune of 17 goals in 22 matches. A pure poacher who’s posed an increased long-range threat as of lately, Ji isn’t much of a team player but can arguably lead a line by himself better than the less physical Huang can, and could be a real option off the bench.

Nyowani Kitara National Team

Nyowani Kitara is a nation that is a multi-ethnic and largely bi-racial communist nation, formally ruled as a one party state. The communist party is called the Kitara Progressive Workers Coalitions, abbreviated as the KPWC, which is the country's only legal political party. While for many years the party has always been the most important institution, over the past 30 years the military has taken a dominant role in the affairs of the party, and by extension, the state.

There are three major ethnic groups in Nyowani Kitara. The first is the Kitara, who account for approximately 57% of the population. These are black skinned people who originate as part of the Kitara tribe, in Banija, mass migrated to modern-day Nyowani Kitara in the 1840s after they were largely exiled by Banijan authorities. Because of that, they have no diplomatic relations with Banija and are largely to be considered 'radically' anti-Banijan. Radical anti-Mormon teachings from the country, alongside Communism and a dispute over who should use the name(Banija consider their own Kitara Region to be the 'true Kitara', while Nyowani Kitara believe Banija lost the rights to the name when the exilied the Kitara people), lead to heavily strained relations.

When they came to north Rushmore, They conquered the land that was dominated by a variety of white native tribes. Osterlanders(approximately 30% of the population) are the biggest native white ethnic group, with Nordlanders(6%) and Zealanders(1%) behind them. The remaining 6% are largely white immigrants and their descendants from neighboring countries (particularly Graentfjall, Tikariot, Yuezhou, and San Ortelio).

Nyowani Kitara is known for its short, yet harsh, winters. This is a small and poorer country, and therefore outdoor sports are rather popular in this corner of Rushmore. Ethnic group for each player is listed. While sports in Nyowani Kitara are integrated on gender, this team is all males.

Nyowani Kitara is coming freshly out of a particularly brutal civil war. While it was a three-way fight, the KWFA is firmly in the hands of the government, and therefore it is official policy for the team to sing praises of the Government. While players are divided, they are under a heavy eye from the Nyowani Kitara Government via the KWFA, and therefore any players who publicly criticize the ruling party, aka the KPWC, or its government, will not last long in a national team shirt.

Information
Country code: NYK
Denonym: New Kitaran
Association: Kitara's Workers Footballing Association(KWFA)
Manager: Liang Wei(Yuezhou). 52 years old. A former assistant manager for Yuezhou during their communist era, he is a good selection for the country to lead the national team. He understands the pressures of international football, and yet, as a committed communist, is definitely acceptable to the powers that be in Nyowani Kitara. He has also taken over the role of Executive Chairman of the KWFA at-large, which, functionally, makes him his own boss. While he wears many hats, Liang will focus on delivering at least the knockout stages to a nation who's footballing standards are improving by the day.
Senior Assistant Manager: Raira Ouma. 41 years old.
Captain: Armoni Okombo
Alternate Captain: Odede Angonga
KPB ranking: 57th

Notes:
- Our free kicks are taken by Ramah Abong'o. Penalties are taken by Owino Odede.

Wang Jiahui
- Wang is a mobile forward most at home as a penalty-box predator, but who also loves playing on the right wing and cutting inside to unleash long-range shots. Wang Jiahui was once conisdered the next big thing in Yue football. While his footballing talent remains, his diehard support for Ren Qiang's doomed socialist regime in Yuezhou turned him into a POW and a fugitive in the newly-established United Republics, and so he had to go abroad. Finding a home in Mytanija, he's risen to stardom with the opportunity focus solely on club football, with Litala '93. But he's itching to get back into international duty. Wang Jiahui, as a supporter of Ren Qiang, was also a very loud supporter of President Nafuna Akongo during the civil war. He even held a fundraiser for the KPWC in the early stages of the war, when it looked as if the Kitara Revolutionary Forces would collapse. Therefore, without a country, the President reached out, and gave him an award for 'special services to the state'. She also, surprisingly, gave him citizenship- a unique power of the President in the Kitaran Constitution. Despite diplomatic protests and strong protests from other FAs, as he is a Kitaran citizen, he is eligible to represent Nyowani Kitara in international competition- so his compatriot, Liang Wei, has called him up.

The following players have defected from the national team during World Cup 90 Qualifying, due to opposition to the ruling regime as a result of the Civil War. They remain functionally banned from NT participation.

Team Cassadaigua- Copa Rushmori 40

Coach- Brittany Byers (55)

Brittany, who has been the regular World Cup manager since #88, has not always managed the Copa Rushmori side. That was the same for her predecessor, Stephanie Sweeny, as well, allowing Brittany to actually get experience with the senior team in this tournament well before World Cup 88. The former defender was also the captain of our World Cup 78 and 79 teams.

Assistant- Gina Mendoza (52)

This is the first type of senior team experience for Mendoza, who is also the manager of New Lakeland Soccer Club. She will be looking to make a positive impression, obviously. The typical assistant for Byers has been Hannah Shanley, but she is not here this time, likely to be the head coach of one of the junior teams.

Starters in Green
Subs in Blue
Reserves in Red

Goalkeepers:
#31- Cynthia Kerr (28) (Victoriaville South End)- Starter WC 90, Sub CR 38 & 39, Reserve WC 89, CR 37, Starter DBC 49
#30- Katie Schnapper (31) (Concord Heights Suburban)- Starter CR 38 & 39, Sub WC 88, 89 & 90, CR 36 & 37, Starter DBC 48
#20- Stacie Thornton (23) (New Lakeland Soccer Club)- Reserve WC 90, Sub DBC 51

The complete three-headed monster from the last World Cup will be out there for the Copa Rushmori. This is also a little atypical of our rosters from previous years. In the qualifiers for the World Cup, all three of the keepers saw regular duty, but it is likely only Kerr will get playing time unless she gets hurt or struggles.

Defenders:
#4- Brianna Ward (24) (Victoriaville South End)- Sub CR 39, Starter DBC 51
#3- Madison Rutland (23) (Starksville Coastal)- Starter DBC 51 & 52 (Captain of 52)
#2- Amber Hogan (22) (Brattleboro FC)- Starter DBC 52, Reserve DBC 51
#6- Caitlyn Kaleta (29) (Brattleboro FC)- Starter WC 88-90, DBC 49 & CR 37-39

#21- Shannon McCausland (26) (Winchester City)- Starter CR 39, Sub WC 90, Reserve CR 38, WC 89
#24- Sarah Bayne (27) (Brattleboro Westside)- Starter DBC 49, CR 37-39; Sub WC 89 & 90, Reserve WC 88

#28- Ashley Crossman (25) (Concord Heights City)- International Debut
#32- Natalie Swanson (22) (Carthage United)- Sub DBC 51 & 52

There is a major need on our World Cup roster for younger defenders to step up, so we are going to see several people who are some of the candidates get playing time here. McCausland not being named a starter got some attention, and some wonder if Brittany Byers might not be fully sold on her. That’s something she was briefly criticized for in the World Cup, due to Shannon not being used much. Hogan is the type of defender the team has recently been lacking: excessively physical, though smart with it.

Midfielders:
#9- Morgan Rosenblatt (29) (AFC Treson, Nephara)- Starter WC 87-90. DBC 48 & 49, CR 36-39 (Team Captain)
#8- Krystal Sherwin (24) (Brattleboro Westside)- Starter WC 90, DBC 51, CR 39
#36- Tara Kriedel (28) (Shearwater, Kelssek)- Sub WC 90, Reserve WC 88, 89 & CR 38, Starter DBC 49 & CR 39
#25- Kelsey Werth (22) (Carthage United)- Starter DBC 52, Sub DBC 51

#37- Sarah Giles (32) (Brattleboro Westside)- Sub WC 90, Reserve WC 86-89; Starter DBC 47, Sub CR 36 & 39, Reserve CR 35 & 38
#38- Emily Doran (23) (North Granby)- Reserve CR 39, Sub DBC 51

#39- Kaylee Carraway (25) (Victoriaville South End)- Reserve WC 90
#44- Lori Garland (23)- Starter DBC 51 & 52

Rosenblatt and Sherwin return for the Copa Rushmori as regulars from the last World Cup. Brittany Byers sees it as important to get these two a little more chemistry with one another. Tara Kriedel was a strong substitute for the team in the World Cup, and as she is in her prime right now, she might have a shot to start in the next one. It is believed that with Werth, the team wants to get a close look at her against tough competition here. Playing with Carthage, she is often overmatched, so she could flourish playing with much better teammates.

Forwards:
#19- Chloe Anderson (21) (Montreal Koreana, Quebec)- Sub WC 90, Starter DBC 51
#26- Rachel Boldin (21) (Victoriaville South End)- Sub WC 90, Starter DBC 51

#23- Bayley Stanton (27) (Concord Heights City)- Starter WC 90, Reserve WC 88 & 89, CR 36 & 37, Sub CR 39, Starter DBC 47 & CR 38
#27- Madison McClain (34) (Jinja City, Banija)- Starter WC 86 & 87; CR 34, 35, 37 & 39, Sub WC 84, 85, 88, 89 & 90, CR 38

#29- Loreen Hazen (31) (Falourr, Eura)- Starter CR 38, Sub WC 86-89, CR 38 & 39, Reserve WC 85 & 90; Sub DBC 47, CR 35, DBC 49, Reserve CR 37
#34- Steffie Garrett (27) (Brattleboro Westside)- Sub DBC 49

Jenna Frontiera has opted out of the Copa Rushmori (her #12 was not re-issued). In the last World Cup, Anderson and Boldin were thrilling as substitutes throughout the competition, and now each gets a chance to start. This is probably a project to get them even more chemistry with one another. Regular starter Bayley Stanton is back, and while technically listed as a sub, expect her to play in every game. If it is not to replace Anderson or Boldin, it will be for a midfielder and the team will switch to a 4-3-3. Steffie Garrett’s inclusion opened some eyes.

The disappointment of the Wanderers in the World Cup can not be placed at the feet of Tomáš Přibyl, as the young keeper did the best he could in the situations that he was placed in. There were games where we saw the same flashes of brilliance from the Royal Jam keeper that he has played with in the domestic league, allowing only fourteen goals last season as the starter, but he could not will the defense alone. Mezei had a better season domestically with the Spartans than the previous but the international inconsistencies mean that he is stuck for the time being as the number two, while Hajna Pálffy remains a reliable back up option should either of the two keepers ahead of her find themselves unavailable for a fixture.

It is clear now that the defense for the Wanderers is in some desperate need of help but unfortunately there are not many central defenders who are up to the task for the team right now in the pool. It may be years yet before the defense of the Wanderers is sorted out, though fortune is quite fickle and the young players that are in the pool may be able to turn it around. The trio of Spartans in the lineup will get the start, alongside that of Aranda from Santos, after they had a stellar defensive showing in the title winning campaign. Jakub Svatoš will definitely be pushing Vass on the left hand side, yet it is hard to deny a player who is in form and who has recently won silverware over one who has not. Can the elder Aranda be the fix in their late bloom in the center of the defense that the Wanderers need or will the defense continue to be plagued with the sort of inconsistencies that have caused the team to have faltered heavily in the regional rankings and at the most recent World Cups?

As a collection of indviduals, there is a supreme amount of talent all throughout the midfield, yet when put together as a group, they fail to live up the same results that we see them produce week in and week out with their domestic team. Perhaps it is the added pressure that comes with wearing the national team shirt as well as the limited amount of time that the players get to train with one another, so that they are lacking the same level of chemistry that they develop with the players at the club level. However the same issue will be in the way of other national teams and they find ways to overcome that obstacle time and time again, where the Wanderers instead see the inconsistent results that are usually associated with international play. Márió Szölösi is definitely the key to getting the team moving on the offense but the talent of Vojmil Topić and Katinka Pálffy can not be ignore either, with Kuruc at the base of the midfield looking to run interference when called upon. It all works in theory but it is time for it to work more often than it fails when it comes to the playing field.

Strikers

LW/ST: Elek Salai, age 25, AC Izotz Zubia Image
AML/ST: Boriska Nagy, age 29, Spartangrad Image (F)
ST: Eustacio Corral Magana, age 25, CA Paulinthal
ST: Mihály Bernát, age 30, Revolutionaires Image

The four strikers all have had bad bouts of inconsistency at times but they are all immensely talented and have not done enough to have been dropped from the pool. Salai has been the most consistent and in the best of form when called upon and that is perhaps why he was part of a big money bid from Izotz Zubia in Audioslavia and made the jump from Valanora to the northeast. Nagy and Bernát are competing not only at club level but also for the second starting spot, which Nagy retains for the time being with having helped Spartangrad to a Challengers Cup Final appearance. When any of the four strikers are in form, they are deadly in front of the net, but that lack of consistent form is what has kept the Wanderers from truly reaching their potential as the prominent regional power of Rushmore as well as a true World Cup contender. This Copa Rushmori is the ultimate litmus test as to whether the hype around the strikers is real or if those at the head of the national team program should start to cast their eyes elsewhere for the best interests of the team.

Captain: Márió Szölösi

KENVILLE STATE ELECTIONS-2022

by Jean Charles Gautselin

Kenville is Brookstation's largest state both in terms of area and population. Kenville houses the city of Norweigan wood which is the capital and also one of the four largest cities in Brookstation. Kenville is the most educated state in Brookstation according to the national survey conducted in 2019. This is perhaps the reason why Kenville is one of the 3 states where the national Brookstation People's Party isn't in power. Kenville's political history is not interesting at all considering the fact that the Communist Party of Brookstation has been in power for more than three decades. Credits for this outstanding success should be given to Michael Conway who has been the head of state for more than a decade.

However, this year the elections will get heated up in Kenville following controversial statements from Michael Conway himself. According to recent developments, Michael Conway has a strong stance against his very own party and this has led to the possibility of him resigining from his post. Thus Brookstation Today is going to provide it's readers with a guide to the upcoming elections in Kenville.

The Rulers

Communist Party of Brookstation

The CBP, having been in power for more than three decades will definitely look forward to extend their term further but the main problem that lies in their path is their very king, Michael Conway. Conway has been in power for 15 years and it is safe to say that he is considered as a god by the masses of Kenville. However he has been in the news for quite some time primarily due to his change in stance. In certain addresses, he has openly criticized the Party for not sticking to the main policies of communism and just using the term to buy votes. Such statements won't have a good impact on the other members of the party either. However, national CBP representative, Matilda Dirks is not going to leave the situation to spoil at it's own pace. She has made proper arrangements to replace Conway if an when required.

Following Conway's treacherous behaviour, the current CBP representative in Kenville is Malaika Abasalo. Malaika is a young woman who is loved by the population due to her speaking skills. Coming from a financially weak background, she knows about the hardships one has to go through to get the basic necessities and the freedom to speak up. Malaika has studied from the Kenville National University and is currently a proffessor in the same university. Matching Michael's popularity would be an ardous task but this is going to be a test to find out whether the people loves the party or the leader.

Being one of the educational and technological hubs of Brookstation, Kenville attracts a lot of students and employees each year and thus gaining the support of the students is going to be a necessary step for any party to consolidate their power. Apart from that, the CBP has recently been introducing bills regarding the betterment of the facilities received by the students and workers. In our opinion, the CBP is the most likely party to gain power.

The Opposition

Brookstation People's Party

The ruling conservative party hasn't stood a chance in Kenville for thirty years straight but Glenn Maxwell led BPP is not going to back away until sweeping over the entirety of Brookstation. Despite of making a number of attempts last time which included frequent visits from Glenn Maxwell himself, the BPP failed to gain the seat. Nevertheless, they made a significant improvement which placed them second in the table with 23 out of the 137 seats in Kenville. The BPP has always believed in trying to their fullest and that is perhaps the reason why they came into power in the national level in the first place. The BPP's main objective would be to lure the masses into believing that their policies of capitalism is going to strengthen the economy and provide the workers with better facilities. It would be difficult for the BPP to gain the support of the rural masses as the masses there are quite reluctant to fall into the BPP's trap.

Under the BPP, Brookstation has definitely seen a growth in economy but at the cost of civil rights which is something which the people of Kenville value more. The BPP will be led majorly by Filip Andreason who has always been very close to Glenn Maxwell. Filip Andreason has a largely following base which always criticizes the freedom of speech of the people. As a conservative party, the BPP's goal will be to brainwash the masses into their side by spreading false propagandas and delivering speeches to create controversies. As I write this very article, I can hear noises of the BPP campaigning with their slogans of supposedly bringing "glory to Kenville by restoring the hidden resources of Kenville." Kenville is a state consisting on educated and well settles masses and putting them under the spell of conservatism is going to be a difficult task indeed.

In my opinion, the BPP is not going to be able to gain power in this state. However it would be entertaining to see their efforts behind causing controversies and spreading propaganda in the name of religion and prejudices.

The Deserted Ones

Brookstation National Congress

After losing power back in 1897, the BNC never really gained back the support of the people and now that almost three decades have passed since their reign and at this stage what remains of them is just a few seats(6) in hand. The BNC's main campaigning propaganda would be to bring up the past and bank on how great Kenville once used to be. The Congress will strongly criticize the BPP but is going to maintain their alliance with the Communist Party. The BNC is going to look forward to gaining the votes of the undecided and the elderly masses.

The Congress would be led by Fabricia Pollock, daughter of Carmichael Pollock(the last non communist leader of Kenville). Following the death of her father, Fabricia has been the face of the Congress in Kenville. Fabricia is a well educated woman and comes from a political background. Fabricia has the ability to strategise plans and works hard to bring her party into power. Fabricia might endeavour to utilize this elections in their favour. Fabricia is a woman's rights activist and thus has a strong support of the women and recent controversies regarding the BPP's stance against abortion might as well give her the upper hand.

A valid question that can be raised at this point is where is Michael Conway actually headed to if he does resign from his post and leave the party. The only possible outcomes to this is to either join a new party or form one of his own as Conway isn't a man who is going to retire from politics until his last day. If he were to join a different party, it is obviously going to be the BNC thanks to his age old grudge against the BPP. Either ways, the BNC is going to try and align themselves with Michael Conway and support his statements against the CBP. This is going to be the most crucial time for the BNC to regain some of their lost status.

These are the three main parties contesting the elections in Kenville. Apart from that, there are few smaller regional parties as well as independent leaders but none of them have been able to get a single seat over the past few elections thus the possibility of them being a competitor shouldn't arise. Now it is upto the people to decide which part gets the ticket to Kenville's throne.

Team name: Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland
Trigram: SWR
Demonym/adjective: Schutzenphalian*, Schutzi (colloq.)
* Technically, players such as Dragotin Klanènik are Ruhntuhnkuhnlander, but in practice, ‘Schutzenphalian’ is used as an omnibus descriptor for everyone from the United Iron Principality.
Team nickname: Mountaineers

I will try to post an expected XI before each match, but if I have not you may it can be assumed those numbered 1–11 (except for 22 instead of 2) will start. All players play for domestic clubs unless otherwise stated, and all are available for transfer as free agents. Players marked † were part of the NT squad for CR38.

Staff

Head coach: Max Renner (52)
Assistant coach: Sebastian Esmann (38)

Renner is a coach who likes adaptable players capable of covering multiple positions. As such his formations can be fluid, at best putting the best players regardless, at worst forcing square pegs into round holes. Esmann mainly played in the 2. Ligen, and then moved into scouting.

Goalkeepers

1. Hannes Maier (29) SV Klagenzell Vólkerheim
12. Juraj Zorić (27) Wolfzeller FV
23. Niklas Kaplan (23) Obernbrück

Maier is a tall natural shot-stopper who’s a bit less composed with the ball at his feet. Zorić is the better sweeper-keeper but isn’t 6’ tall so is less effective at dealing with the aerial ball or getting online dates. Kaplan is probably better than either but young and raw, and has already dealt with a couple of injury issues. Maier should start and the reserves will likely only feature in case of injury or after a rout.

Defenders

2. Marcel Furtwängler (25) Mistelstein 1882
3. Dragotin Klanènik (25) Sankt Margrethe’s
4. Jakob Hartmann (32) Obernbrück
5. Benjamin Schlager (25) Sankt Margrethe’s
13. Stefan Kandel (25) Obernbrück
15. Sebastian Fessler (27) Image Mühlrich
18. Nathanaël Ndòsi (26) Image Corinthians No Longer
22. Florian Habeler (27) Saalstein Freihöring

Habeler operates as a wing-back for his club but is comfortable enough playing in a more straightforwardly defensive role here. Klanènik has eclipsed Furtwängler in a similar role on the left as he offers more pace and an attacking throw-in that can be a real weapon. Hartmann is a versatile defender who started out as a right back and transitioned into a central role as his pace declined. Schlager can distribute well and show a surprisingly solid touch on the ball for a man of his size, while Kandel is also big and strong, but lacking the same skills with the ball at his feet, though he can be a decent threat from set pieces. The best of the rest is Ndòsi, a tall and fast centre-back who needs to add muscle, but who has gained valuable experience playing in Nephara.

Midfielders

6. Benjamin Breunig (29) Image Blue Mountain Range
7. Lukas Wolf (26) Image Southfell United
8. Tom Klor (28) Lengenkamp SC
14. Luca Geyer (23) Lengenbrück Gudenfeld
16. Theodor Brandauer (30) Obernbrück
17. Benedikt Kieffer (26) SV Klagenzell Vólkerheim

Breunig is a versatile defence-first holding midfielder who can play as a centre-back in a three-at-the-back formation or press higher and unleash attacks through quick, incisive passing. One of the best players on the team. The consistent Klor will anchor the central midfield role behind attacking playmaker Wolf. Geyer is a highly touted creative prospect who has yet to quite prove he has the consistency for the top, while Brandauer, in a holding role, and Kieffer, as a passing machine, are workmanlike reserves.

Forwards

9. Kai Röthke (28) Wolfzeller FV
10. Daniel Reiter (22) Image Maigburg
11. Noah Frankenberger (23) Saalstein Freihöring
19. Michael Pfeifer (26) Sankt Margrethe’s
20. Lucas von Wolfberg (25) SV Klagenzell Vólkerheim
21. Branimir Bulganin (25) Image Korsbach

Röthke is a fairly classic 9 with a reliable goal scoring touch. Frankenberger is naturally left-footed but plays on the right, driving inside; he is blessed with great pace, but not the best finishing. Reiter is a nimble, two-footed winger whose development stalled before a move overseas and a shift to a wide role helped him. Bulganin is a big, touch, stoical striker, while von Wolfberg is a quick, skilful Schutzenphalian Army Knife who can play 9, 10, winger, or attacking midfield. Pfeifer is a more traditional right-footed right winger.
