NationStates College Football - Season 25

Breathe deep and take it all in as the tubas' rumbles reverberate through all the iconic campus stadia again. Each one, packed with generations of alumni returning to partake in the traditions of their beloved alma mater, is ready for that combustion of kinky action. The poppin' aromas of molly-popcorn and beer sift out through the bleachers full of marijuana smoke. The bright lights shine down on armoured teams battling under the night sky, school bragging rights and a gruelling summer of work on the line. Ah, yes. It's college football season. Glory, Drama, Pride.

The twenty-fifth edition of NationStates College Football is upon us. In this thread, you will post your team's roster and all in-character roleplays. These can be game reports, character dialogues, or really anything you like. Any out-of-character questions should be directed towards the discussion thread or telegram.

With 42 entrants, there will be seven conferences and each will have six teams.
12 teams will make the Playoffs: the seven conference champions, the three highest-ranked schools ranked by OSPI and, finally, two wildcards selected by the NSCF Committee. These 12 teams will then be seeded in the bracket purely by OSPI. Higher seeds will have home advantage until the final, which will take place at a neutral venue. Any nation can put together a bid to host the NSCF Championship (IC only) before the start of Non-Conference week, when it will then be voted on by the NSCF Committee.

New and returning players alike are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the NSCF procedure here. The regular season will be double round-robin, for a total of 10 games. Games will be scorinated three times a week: on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Scores will be posted in this thread at a time determined by each conference's designated scorer. After the ten-game conference schedule, there will be a "Non-Conference Week", with each team playing up to three games against opposition from other conferences. These games will not count toward conference championships, but WILL affect playoff seedings. All Non-Conference games must be arranged by the teams playing them (you can use the discussion thread for this). Once confirmed by BOTH parties, match-ups should be telegrammed to NSCF to be added to the schedule.

Bowls
In addition to the playoffs, there also a few consolation bowl games for teams that do not reach the postseason. If your nation proposes a bowl game to host, you are responsible for inviting the teams yourself if it does not have automatic parameters for selection. The Pioneer Bowl is a traditional game for the two best newcomer teams not in the playoffs. After that, NSCF will not recognize any bowl game involving a team with an OSPI below 0.450.

Dietrich Stadium, constructed in 2012, features a capacity of 94,750 attendees, and is one of the toughest places to visit in college football.

Team Philosophy

Offensive Style: Richardson tends to direct their plays from the I formation, only adopting a shotgun look if they have a lethal passer along with an obvious need to pass. They adjust personnel and schemes according to talent, but generally run 11, 12, or 13 personnel (1 running back, 1-3 tight ends). The run game is done with a power concept (i.e lots of double teams), taking advantage of highly recruited, big, strong offensive linemen. These linemen will also be counted on to handle pass rushers one-on-one in most scenarios. The run is featured prominently, with the passing game featuring heavy play action, at 35-45% of passes, with a ton of deep shots opened up by the aforementioned run game.

Defensive Style: Richardson's base defense is a 4-3 cover 2 man look, generally running some sort of man coverage on the outside with safeties providing deep help. The team trusts its corners, who travel with wide receivers based on perceived talent, to erase or mitigate the damage. Defensive ends are edge rushers, outside linebackers are off the ball. The Governors will rarely blitz, electing to let a talented front four wreak havoc as they see fit. When they do blitz, it is often using the outside backers. More likely to blitz when they have top-notch safeties or linebackers available, a good example being Isaiah Bryce.

Player bios:

QB Astrid Verona: Daughter of 5x all star QB Paul Verona and nephew of Ranorian World Baseball Classic pitcher Tommy Verona, Astrid has a polished, clean game that translated well once she stepped on the field. Expect a conservative approach and plenty of professional-level habits like looking off safeties, consistently clean footwork and throwing motion, and savvy movement in the pocket. Downsides include her somewhat smaller frame and lack of a cannon of an arm, but she's got enough heat to take advantage of an attack that relies on aggressive play action in the passing game.

HB Elliot Roach: Roach was the 2nd highest rated recruit in Kohnhead three seasons ago, and he's shown why after taking the reigns as Richardson's top back. Two time All-Ranorian at running back.

DE Gideon Kearse: A truly generational talent, Kearse is a monstrosity, and now the spearhead of this Governor Defense. Coming in at a monstrous 275 pounds, he moves better than one would think and is a force against the run or pass with a disruptive playing style. Expect a lot of arm-over, "back door" type plays in the run game to generate TFLs and a wide array of pass rush moves. Whether he's batting down passes, stuffing runs, sacking the quarterback or punching the ball out, he is the definition of a disruptor.

DE Kaspar Ulvestad: Every power rusher needs a foil. Ulvestad is stronger than he looks now at 225 pounds, but his main traits are speed and a relentless motor. Occasionally drops back into coverage, more often allowed to pin his ears back and do his thing. With Kearse collapsing the pocket on the other side, Ulvestad can consistently get contain and rack up clean up sacks - and when Kearse does get caught out of position in the run game, Ulvestad is fast enough to make a lot of plays on runs going away from him.

OLB Kaiser Belfort: Belfort is a mauler of linebacker. While he's a bit lean at 235, the kid is a twitchy athlete with a ton of power, as displayed by his 3 knockouts in sanctioned MMA bouts. Yup. You heard that right, he's a fighter. It took a bit of convincing to get him to play college football, and he's a liability in coverage, but if the ball carrier happens to occupy a space of open field in front of him, he'll make them pay.

OT Brian Shipman: Out of Cassaidaigua, Shipman is a big, strong recruit who knew he could use some good coaching coming out. Fortunately, Richardson is just the place for that on the offensive line. Shipman has solidified himself as Verona's blindside protector now, and is part of a nasty duo at offensive tackle.

OT Travis Handon: The 7th ranked recruit in Ranoria hasn't seen much playing time either, but with a big long frame that he's beginning to grow into, the team anticipates that he - along with Shipman and Uzziah Amondi out of Banija, will be the force behind one hell of an offensive line.

G/C Uzziah Amondi: Amondi, out of Banija, certainly needs to pack on some size, but he's already up five pounds from his high school days, and he's an athletic beast at guard. While his pass blocking could use some work, he's got a whole season to fine tune his craft and hey, worst comes to worst - the Governors have always preferred to run right down their opponents' throats. Along with 2x All-Ranorian guard Jacob Silva, this is one of the nastiest offensive lines in college football, and the offense calls their plays with that in mind.

WR Angela Sauber: Sauber was the 9th rated recruit in Ranoria - she's got excellent acceleration and precise, deceptive route running, plus she's solid in a pinch with the jump ball. A huge talent upgrade at wide receiver for this team. For a quarterback like Verona without a cannon, she's a boon who can get open close to the line of scrimmage.

WR Constantina Perrier: Perrier's a big bodied freelancer at wideout who can generate a ton of RAC, again, a perfect compliment to an accurate quarterback without a huge arm. She's excellent at finding holes in coverage and has been given plenty of opportunities in this offense to make reads and adjust routes at her leisure, while showing the willingness to work with Verona to make sure the two are on the same page when that happens.

G Chris Grey: Grey's a nasty run blocker on the inside, if lacking in size for a program like this. Fear not, with his redshirt, Grey will bulk up plenty in a top-notch lifting program and be ready to contribute next season, hopefully.

CB Takeuchi Ichiko: Perhaps the most important signing of this offseason, Ichiko stepped right into a barren cornerback room and is the exact kind of player Richardson likes at the position - technical, patient, and more shutdown than gambler. Ichiko missed two games during the domestic season due to his shoulder injury, but the training staff has been good about keeping him healthy and it should only rarely prove to be an issue.

OG Brandon Roche: Roche is a raw prospect at offensive line, but the talent is there. He has a good coach here, but a lot of good players in front of him. At the moment, Roche is getting minutes at all three interior OL positions, but is projected as a starter next season on one of the best units in college football.

The Tundra, often snow covered, in Cold Hill was constructed in 1999, and can hold up to 85,000 people.

Team Philosophy:

At its core, the team's game plan, generally, is to rack up points and then make opposing quarterbacks uncomfortable when they try to catch up.

Offensive Style: Cold Hill is a pass-first, air raid, quarterback centric team offensively. Generally run the offense out of the shotgun in 10 or 11 personnel. (1 running back, no tight ends, or 1 running back, 1 tight end). As long as it's working, they see no reason to slow down scoring and give other teams a chance to get back into the game. Power style run game, tight ends and backs are usually plus pass protectors if they're starting. Expect a lot of chipping and double teams in pass protection.

With Aurel Strathos at quarterback, expect complete and unmitigated aggression from the quarterback position. Aurel has an ego that reeks of narcissism, and an arm to back it up, but if he throws twenty interceptions, no one would be surprised. Tendency to take deep shots at teams' best corners just to show that he can.

Defensive Style: Base 3-4 Defense. In essence, make a bunch of plays and cause enough disruption to stop the offense. Outside linebackers serve primarily as edge rushers with very rare drop backs into coverage, while big defensive linemen clog up the interior. Heavy emphasis on pass rush. Scheme features a lot of blitzing, particularly from cornerbacks, and relies on linebackers to soak up tackles while the front men key on the passer. In the run game, expect a contain and bounce inside approach, to force runners straight into the linebacking core. Generally at least one playmaking safety, currently both Proko and Agnor Viridian are employed as weapons on the defensive side.

S Agnor Viridian: One of many talented playmakers in the secondary, Viridian is the heartbeat of one of the best the Buffalo have ever fielded. The coaching staff has given him full freedom to abandon his assignment to go make a play if he sees it, and Viridian has taken plenty of chances to better his team's odds. Play-caller for the secondary.

OLB Corrin Silva: Silva is a freak at 6'7". Now clocking in at 260 pounds, he's the clear starter opposite Candace Ferrett, and 2nd on the team in sacks during domestic play. Expect very few drop backs into coverage at his size.

Receiving Corps: This group is led by Nikolas Isaksen out of Valanora. The jump ball specialist has more than enough size to make most secondaries pay, and provided a spark as a pass target that Cold Hill had been lacking in the last couple seasons. No offense to a trio of juniors in Rai Swift, Cooper Canis, and Felix Hamilton, but none of them can be called a true #1. Swift is just that, a burner with good size, but his route running is poor and his hands inconsistent. Canis is a volume guy without a ton of speed, but he's quick out of his breaks and has solid hands. Hamilton is easily the most athletic of the bunch, and has true sub 4.3 speed, but he's inconsistent as a receiver. Thanks to Isaksen's arrival, he's been able to focus on special teams work, where he can really make an impact.

And then of course, there's Heinz. Talented, excellent route runner, but not much motor. It's clear on film that Heinz shows much more effort on plays where he's the top target, or when he's in the red zone. As such, expect a disproportionate amount of touchdowns to reception volume. But when this guy's on, he's on.

OLB Candace Ferrett: The #10 recruit out of Chromatika three years ago, Ferrett is the team's premier pass rusher. Opposite her is Corrin Silva, who's about as beefy as any Cold Hill edge rusher has been in years, to pick up on the rare occasion that she can't get to the quarterback. The secondary is the strength of this defense, but these two coming off the edge force quarterbacks into enough mistakes to take advantage of that unit.

CB Victoria Mio: The #2 recruit out of Chromatika three seasons ago now, Mio is a tall and instinctive corner. Whatever "it" is, she's got it, consistently making plays for the Buffalo, whether she's out-muscling even bigger wideouts or screaming off the edge on a blitz. Rarely out of position, Mio is a fan favorite and generally regarded as the number two corner - picking off passes thrown to lesser receivers after her running mate locks down the top target.

CB Koman Tabor: Half of a standout junior duo at corner for Cold Hill, Tabor was Banija's top recruit three seasons ago. At 6'3" and over 200 pounds, he's a lengthy corner, but of course he doesn't have the size of his partner across the field. Tabor tends to be more technically sound than Mio, and will force quarterbacks to look away from his man more often than racking up flashy stats - but he's the best trash talker on the team, without a doubt.

QB Aurel Strathos: Aurel has a lot to prove. The talent and physical gifts are there, but he's a gunslinger and not in a good way. Aggressive as he is, he's prone to throw just enough beautiful passes to keep his spot after the incredibly frustrating interceptions he'll produce. Whether or not this team's vaunted secondary can produce more turnovers than Strathos is a betting line in Ranoria...Strathos is a favorite by 1.5 turnovers.

SS/OW Prokopios Vortigern Rooijakkers: Rooijakkers, often called "Proko" for short, is likely the most talented player on this roster. Coming in at 6'10", he's often employed as a box safety while getting most starting snaps in that role, though the Buffalo have no problem dropping him back deep to make x's and o's type coaches throw their clipboards when attempting a deep ball. Proko is more than athletic enough to play offense, and has been employed out wide, in the slot, at tight end, and even at running back a couple times.

Is the only quarterback in school history to start every single game for 4 years. First quarterback in school history to beat archrivals Loyola University-Istria 3 times in a row(coinciding NSCF 1, 2,3). Went to three straight national championship games(coinciding NSCF 1, 2, and 3) and won two national championships(coinciding NSCF 1 & 3).

Rivals: Currently the biggest rival of Northern Moravica University is the University of Loyola-Istria, who the Cougars have played at least once a season the last 60 seasons. They have played each other 20 times in NSCF competition, with Northern being 12-8 overall against their archrivals to the South. They've beaten Loyola at least once every season in the NSCF, including sweeping Loyola in NSCF 13, NSCF 22, and NSCF 24. This includes the two teams splitting their playoff matchups. These two teams have long been seen as the top two college football teams in Banija, and indeed, their stranglehold over Banijan college sports has continued, as they dominate not only in football, the biggest collegiate sport, but most other sports as well. When it was discussed for which team should debut Banija on the world stage for college football, it ultimately came down to these two, and after heating exchanges of words between both Athletic Directors and School Presidents in public, and the Mayors of Istria & Herzegovina City, the Banijan College Sports Group(BCSG) decided on a 11-8 vote to send Northern. The two schools played a thriller in the NSCF 18 quarterfinals, a matchup won by the Blue Thunder. With Loyola's incredible postseason runs in the NSCF, they finally regained the upper hand in this rivalry when they downed Loyola-Istria at the Istria Lightning Yard in the NSCF 19 semifinals, en route to their first ever NSCF title. In recent years, Northern Moravica has gained the upper hand in the rivalry. Northern Moravica has won 6 of the last 7 games in the rivalry, including sweeps in both NSCF 22 and NSCF 24. Most shockingly, NMU is carrying a 4 game winning streak at the vaunted Istria Lightning Yard, a record streak for any visiting opponent at the Lightning Yard.

A former NSCF rival is Vietussia Academy. They have played a number of games against Vietussia Academy when both schools were members of the Celestia Conference. The two former conference rivals play each other for the Golden Axe. When Vietussia Academy returned to the NSCF for NSCF 18 as part of a different conference, the two teams played each other on the final game of the season in United Vietussia. Northern Moravica took the golden axe back to Herzegovina City with a 20-14 road victory, to improve to 2-3 all-time against their rivals.

A current Celestia Conference NSCF rival are the Salamantic Universities. The Salamantic Universities and Northern Moravica split the season series in NSCF 19-21, but the Salamantic Universities swept Northern in NSCF 22(in fact, they swept both Banijan schools). With them competing in the Celestia Conference, the rivalry continues to grow more heated between the schools every year. The official name of the trophy between the two schools is the 'Felinology Trophy', although students from both sides have unofficially named the trophy the 'Trophy of the Ancients' since the matchup is Cougars versus Professors. While Northern Moravica administrators were clear to say that was not the rivalry trophy's official name, with the lack of an official name, that has been the name tossed around by various outlets discussing the new rivalry. Northern Moravica has an all-time record of 4-6 against the Salamantics, and they presently are the trophy holders after a 13-0 shutout victory at home on Matchday 9.

The University of the Commonwealth of Baker Park is also considered a major foreign rival of Northern Moravica. These two teams have played every single season since UC-Baker Park joined the NSCF. The only season they did not schedule each other was NSCF 21, but the fates decided the two would play anyways, in the first round of the playoffs. UC-Baker Park won the sole playoff matchup between the two schools, 27-21. Northern Moravica has an all-time record of 3-4 against UC-Baker Park, . There is no name nor trophy for this rivalry- but it is considered a scheduling priority for both schools every single year. This season, they are in the same conference for the first time, only upping the ante and the stakes of the rivalry.

Elephant Valley University of South Newlandia is considered Northern Moravica's newest conference rival. The two schools will contest the 'Sally Trophy' for the first time this season, created between the two schools to honor the relationship between the two countries. The Sally Trophy is named after an elephant named Sally, which was the very first elephant to be brought to South Newlandia. This elephant, of course, came from Banija, where elephants are populous. The elephant ended up becoming the national animal of South Newlandia, and of course, the animal is the namesake for EVU. Northern Moravica currently has an all-time record of 2-0 against EVU.

Entrance: There is a unique stadium entrance at home games for the Cougars football team. A starting senior on each side of the football stands outside the tunnel, each one holding the school flag. They stand opposite each other with the flags lowered, and then raise the flags and let the entire team run through. After the team and staff runs through, those two starters run to the middle of the field and each plant their flag on the logo, signifying that this is their home field, and that they will fight to defend home field.

Championships: Northern Moravica has seven Celestia Conference championships in 9 NSCF seasons, winning the conference title in NSCF 12, NSCF 13, NSCF 17, NSCF 18, NSCF 19, NSCF 23, and NSCF 24. They won their only NSCF championship in NSCF 19. They finished as runner-ups in NSCF 20 and NSCF 23.

Championships: The Loyola-Istria Blue Thunder have an incredible NSCF postseason record, being 19-4 all-time in the postseason in this competition, including a ridiculous 16-4 in playoff games and 3-0 in bowl games. In NSCF 13, they won the Pioneer Bowl, and in NSCF 14 and NSCF 17, they won the NSCF championship, posting a 3-0 and 4-0 record in those two postseasons, respectively. In NSCF 18, they made a run to the NSCF title game, only to fall to Mar Sara Tech. In both NSCF 19 and NSCF 20, they lost semifinals on their home field, falling to Northern Moravica at home in NSCF 19 and falling to Cold Hill at home in NSCF 20. They redeemed themselves in NSCF 21, defeating Cold Hill in the championship game. They have three Celestia conference championships, winning in NSCF 14, NSCF 20, and NSCF 21. Individual Accolades: They have racked up individual accolades during their time as a member of the NSCF. Dennis Zervos, their former offensive coordinator, was the NSCF's most outstanding player in NSCF 14, and their current quarterback, Isaka Jawara, was the NSCF 17 Offensive Player of the Year en route to their championship run, and the NSCF 18 Most Outstanding Player, and he won the NSCF 19 Offensive Player of the Year award in his senior season. Corrin Fairless, a starting cornerback and their special teams star, won the NSCF 18 Special Teams Player of the Year Award.

Their big foreign rival is Richardson University of Ranoria, whom they play annually in the Rebel's Cannon Bowl. The young rivalry has developed quickly, as the teams compete for recruits off the field and championships on it. In NSCF 17, Loyola-Istria travelled to Richardson University for the first game of this rivalry, and lost a very close battle. But in the return in NSCF 18, Richardson University came to Busukuma, and defeated the Blue Thunder at the Stadium of the Restoration. The return was another close battle between the two schools, losing an instant classic in overtime in Ranoria. This rivalry is called the Rebel's Cannon Bowl, and is traditionally contested on the final weekend of the regular season. This season will be the ninth edition of the game. The first four of the games of the series have been won by the home side, with Richardson winning in NSCF 17 and NSCF 19, while Loyola-Istria emerged victorious in NSCF 18 and NSCF 20. However, Loyola-Istria triumphed in NSCF 21 en route to their third NSCF championship, to break that streak while winning on the road. And that was the last season Loyola beat their fierce rivals. Richardson has now won 3 in a row in this series, including twice when Loyola was the designated home team. It is a source of constant annoyance for Loyola players and fans alike, including and especially the coaching staff. Loyola currently sits with a 3-5 all-time record against Richardson University.

They also have a very competitive rivalry with Celestia Conference foes, the Salamantic Universities of Ko-oren. In NSCF 20, Loyola swept the series, while in NSCF 21, the two schools split the regular season series. That year, the two conference rivals had their first, and only, postseason matchup, in an epic all-time matchup decided by a blocked field goal on the final play of the game. In NSCF 22, however, the Salamantic Universities swept both Banijan schools, and won the Celestia for the first time. Which was seen as revenge for Loyola's elimination of the Salamantics. Loyola returned the favor by sweeping NSCF 23, while both teams won their home games in NSCF 24. Now, there's no name, nor trophy, nor anything like that for this rivalry- it's just two conference rivals, who do not like each other, and play with championship stakes on the line twice every signle year. Teams that could not be more polar opposites- the Professors, dedicated to defensive excellence, and the Blue Thunder, who thrive on offense. Loyola sits with an all-time 7-4 series lead against the Salamantic Universities.

Northern Moravica Preview- Off back to back conference titles, NMU look to get back to the top of the mountain

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- We have been waiting, and waiting, for the start of college football season. One of the most anticipated NSCF seasons in quite a while- the Silver Edition of the NSCF. After a shrunken NSCF last season, where just 30 teams entered, we have a much larger than usual NSCF. Props to the front office- 42 schools have entered, which means not only the return of a sixth conference, but the return of a seventh conference as well. And with the return of the Mineral conference, of course, UC-Baker Park will no longer be an in-conference rival for Northern Moravica.

The Celestia does not figure to get any sort of easier however. With Elephant Valley rising in their second season, the Celestia has a minimum of four title contenders, with NMU, Loyola-Istria, the Salamantics, and Elephant Valley all currently sitting as co-favorites to emerge out of the Celestia Conference as the conference's champion, and, most importantly, with that automatic playoff berth. "It promises to be the NSCF's most competitive conference once again." Said former NMU QB and present-day TV analyst Bastiaan Rodo. "Lots of pro-style offenses, really talented defenses- expect, like last season, another ultracompetitive bloodbath."

Quarterback

There are no questions here, right? The reigning NSCF Offensive Player of the Year is, for the first time, from Northern Moravica University, and the talented Quarterback cannot be doubted. Vallienté Wagner-Young has returned for his senior year, to finish the job that he feels he came to this school to do- "win the NSCF for the greatest University on Earth."

What can't he do? The 6'5, 220 pound senior is a big dude- he's quick, he's tough to bring down, he's got an uncanny ability to extend a play, and turn a broken play into a play for big yardage. "This guy has done, in the past, a wonderful job of establishing fantastic chemistry with his receivers." Said a GFLB scout. "He's not afraid to take a hit. He can stand there in the pocket, beat you with his arms, beat you with his legs. Now, he's not Gwenderyn- but he doesn't need to be, either. This is a guy who can make almost any throw he's asked, and he's proven that time and time again in the big moments. 3-1 against Loyola-Istria? Two time conference champion? Playoff wins in each of his first two years here? His talent cannot be doubted- he's the best QB in the conference, and outside of Gwenderyn, likely beyond."

Head Coach Lance Kabuye has said that what impresses him about Wagner-Young so much, is his ability to work on the mental game. "There are a lot of quarterbacks who get to college, big arm, quick feet, who simply want to show up and be the man on campus. Date all the women. But what he's continually worked on- his pocket awareness. His defensive recognition. That's one of the biggest adjustments any QB has to make, recognition. Dedicating yourself in the film room. I'm telling you, he's at the ability where we are really going to unleash him at the line of scrimmage. His ability to read a defense, know what play is coming- we're going to greatly expand his ability to adjust blocks, audible in or out of a play, etc... and I think you'll see a more explosive offense as a result."

The biggest challenge for Wagner-Young, of course, will be all the new blood at receiver. Yaya Badjie and Thomas Drach are the only two wide receivers who are returning from last season. What were their combined stats in NSCF XXIV? 19 receptions for 177 yards, and 2 touchdowns. That's their combined stats, over the course of 15 games. "I think NMU has a ton of questions at the wide receiver position." Said a NMU radio play-by-play announcer. "Badjie and Drach did almost nothing last year. Drach, of course, was a true freshman from Siovanija & Teusland- a place where the high school game isn't necessarily as strong. So he had quite a learning curve when it came to the NSCF. Badjie was mostly known for his downfield blocking. Now they're up the depth chart. What can they do?"

Of course, the most intriguing weapon for Wagner-Young is the uber-talented freshman wideout, Jannik Nadine. He's quick and big wide receiver. 6'3, 225 pounds, with a 4.36 40 yard dash? "You can't put too much pressure on a true freshman." Said the analyst. "But the emergence of Nadine will be key. How quick can he adjust to the college game? He's easily the most talented person at this position by quite a long shot, but like we said- true freshman. This is where the benefit of having a senior quarterback with Wagner-Young's talent level comes into play. If we had a freshman QB alongside this receiving corps, we'd see this team looking like the Salamantics. But these receivers are not going to get a ton of separation. Wagner-Young will have to squeeze it into some tight windows, he is going to have to throw his receivers open. The receiving corps will mean that teams will be more confident in single coverage, and therefore will bring more pressure. That's the biggest test for Wagner-Young, can he handle that?"

Coaching Staff Changes

The key changes come on the defensive side of the football. With Chike Halim taking a head coaching job, and taking much of the defensive staff with him, Lance Kabuye hired a basically entire new staff on the defensive side of the football. "Obviously, that was not the gameplan." Lance Kabuye told reporters. "But coordinators moving on to become head coaches, and positional coaches moving on to become coordinators- that's a sign of a healthy program. It means we have strong coaches, and their work is showing on the field. I gave Chike Halim a glowing recommendation, and I wish him the best of luck at the University of Bunyoro."

But so goes one coach, here comes in another. "Okello Resa is a guy with extensive experience at the pro level." Lance Kabuye said. "The Cobras ran more advanced versions of a lot of the concepts we run now, so he's a strong. With so much returning talent, and a solid defense last year, it wouldn't make sense to simply blow it up. He's got what it takes to be a play caller. He's got an eye for the game, and coming from the pros, he can really reach the kids- he can tell you what it takes to become a professional."

Okello Resa said that he was excited to go back to the college ranks to be a defensive coordinator. "Northern Moravica is the gold standard of college football in this country." He told reporters, unintentionally throwing shade on the Blue Thunder. "The way they do things- I think that I can come here and work well with these players. A lot of veterans here to help reinforce an already excellent culture. We're going to have to start fast, of course, We play Loyola in week 1 this year, and they've always got an elite offense. Ebou Hairte in his second year under center. We cannot afford to start slow. We can use that game to really focus in as the season opener comes closer. But expect a fast, powerful defense."

Key Players

One of the key players for this defense is going to be Ailo Børve, the weak outside linebacker. Børve is going to be expected to blitz quite a bit under this year's defense. The Cougars are returning with a ton of experience in the secondary. Both safeties are in their third year as starters, as juniors, while both of the team's starting cornerbacks are seniors. With all that experience in the secondary, the new defensive coordinator is not going to be afraid to leave his guys in main coverage, maybe on islands. Which means Børve should have free reign to get to the QB. It will be a high risk, high reward defense- can be susceptible to the big play, of course, but if they're getting to the QB, they'll be extremely disruptive. And that will be Børve. Can he demand double teams? Will he continue to improve on his ability to blow by the QB? If he steps up from 'solid' to 'stardom', that will take this defense to the next level.

And on offense, we'll highlight two players. The first, of course, will be Apollo Esther. The returning junior halfback, Esther is still an important part of an offense that has the reigning offensive player of the year as their QB. Northern Moravica will like to establish the run, under center, and especially early in the season, as Wagner-Young and his brand new bunch of receivers, try to establish in game chemistry. Think of it as especially important in the first game, against Loyola-Istria. Playing your archrival in week 1 is not how anybody wants to start the season. But the schedule is how it is. Loyola's defense has gotten particularly porous over the years. Defenses won't pack the box against a QB like Wagner-Young. If Esther can consistently gain chunks of yardage on the ground? This NMU offense is going to be electric.

The second, of course, is Jannik Nadine. The much-hyped freshman wide receiver out of Ranoria, although he's listed as second on the depth chart, he's widely seen as Northern Moravica's top wide receiver. "He's got the potential, when its' all said and done, to go down as an all-time great WR." Head Coach Lance Kabuye said. "He's got all the tools- but it's all about how you use those tools." Fortunately, this young receiving corps has an elite QB throwing them the football. But the quicker Nadine gets up to speed, the more likely they are to live up to their full potential. How fast can he do so? Everyone's seen his measurables, his hands, his in-game speed. It's not a matter of "if" he will be good. He's as sure of a bet as they come. It's a matter of "when." The faster it is, the faster you'll see Wagner-Young really mount his campaign to be called the second best Quarterback in all of college football.

The last thing we'll look at, is our special teams. NMU has a pair of true freshman as their kicking specialists. While Dwayne Markson is expected to be yet another Chromatik kicking specialist, there are a lot more questions about the team's punter. South Newlandian media said that Alicia Woodbrough would be best suited to be a backup punter. And she was slotted to be, with the team securing a grad transfer from Hangaza Tech. She was going to be a long-term project of the special teams coordinator. But, on the second day of training camp, the punter ruptured his Achilles- out for the season. On twii.tur, he said that it would be it for his football career, as he would focus full-time on recovery and getting his MBA.

Which, suddenly, left Alicia Woodbrough as the only punter on the roster. While Dwayne Markson suddenly has to switch to handling kickoffs, NMU sources are very worried about punting. "Look- you never want to think about the punter." Said a TV broadcast reporter in Banija. "If you're thinking a lot about your punter, you've got an extremely bad punting situation." Rumor has it that her training camp hasn't exactly been the greatest. A lot of nerves, having to get better basically at the drop of a hat when she was expected to be a long-term project, whereas now she's a starter. Rumors only serve to increase the pressure she faces.

Prediction

It's hard to say where this team will end up. The opener, against Loyola-Istria of all teams, will probably be a seeing eye into how this season will go. Let's predict them at 8-2, with an away loss to Elephant Valley, and then a home loss to the Salamantic Universities. That should be enough, considering the extraordinary depth of this conference, to win the Celestia. And what about non-con play? Win over Sadeg State, win over Hoofstra, and then a loss to Woodstock City College at the race track in Hangaza.

10-3. Good enough for a playoff run, including a home playoff win in round 1, and a road playoff win in the quarterfinals, but ultimately, we'll say they get downed by Cold Hill in the semifinals. We'll reveal our prediction for the NSCF 25 champion during the Loyola-Istria preview, of course. As always, best of luck to the Cougars!

OOC: The events of this post take place one week before the start of the prior Ranorian college football season, in the fall, where NSCF takes place in the spring for Ranoria (but still gets cold in the later stages because it's football and that's part of it). This post also has two distinctly different storylines in it, didn't want to double post without it being necessary.

Richardson, Cold Hill To Be Booted Amid Lack of Parity? Not if Their Athletic Departments Have Anything to Say About It

Fans across the world are familiar with Deondre Rhine, who appeared in three NSCF and two domestic championship games, winning three total

It took college football — the most exciting event on Saturday afternoons all across Ranoria — almost a century of existence to finally get with the rest of the multiverse and agree to have a national championship game, one that would leave an undisputed team wearing the crown. Even then, it took another decade before the allure of untold millions of dollars worth of sweet television money willed a playoff system of more than two games into existence. It should perhaps not be surprising then, that the second a controversy makes itself known, that the sport regressed immediately back to an array of splintered fractions.

Last week, we heard complaints from more than a dozen athletic directors of Class I college football programs that Richardson and Cold Hill were creating an environment that would not allow college athletes at other schools to contend for a title due to unfair competitive advantages. Among those were the allure for domestic recruits of playing internationally and of course, the access to international recruiting. Consequently, they have a strong case.

The success from either school would be downright atrocious. Cold Hill alone has participated in seven of the last ten national championships and won four . Richardson has been even better, showing up in eight of ten and winning five titles. The season prior to NSCF 20 is the only exception to the rule of one of these schools winning it all. Looking at the context, it's easy to see why. The talent discrepancy was still there - but both programs faced adversity that ended up being too much to overcome.

For Richardson, the team had three quarterbacks vying for a starting spot, and the coaching staff never made a final decision between the three. That resulted in a disjointed playoff performance with three guys who didn't have a strong leadership role on the team and hadn't been getting enough reps in practice to be adequately prepared.

For Cold Hill, Deondre Rhine got hit with a suspension just before the postseason due to his recreational drug use. Even with Cold Hill being a better team, they lost a nailbiter without their lightning rod of a starter.

Aside from that exception, only thrice since NSCF 16 has another program even broken through to play in the national championship game. With the programs boasting a combined seven 1^st team All-Ranorians in each of the last two seasons, it's no surprise, and it makes it even more obvious - no one in the country can consistently play with Ranoria's top programs.

The final nail in the coffin though, was likely Ranoria's World Bowl XL victory. With a team riddled with former NSCF stars, the Krauts eviscerated each of their playoff opponents, with only one coming closer than a two score deficit against the juggernaut squad. With the disproportionate representation from Cold Hill and Richardson, the playoff committee is finally attempting to a line in the sand between domestic and international football.

A national brand or an international one? Re-establishing old lines and rivalries or becoming two anchors of Ranorian pride for our entire country?

The Robin Sterling Chronicles:
Chapter 1

Week 1, 2026 Season

The sophomore quarterback of the Paladins stepped onto the field, ready to make his mark. He had struggled last season - his freshman year - after replacing an injured senior quarterback midway through the campaign. But with that in the past, he was confident that he was ready to take the reigns.

Robin Sterling was ready this year, if his workouts were any indication. A previously adolescent arm had some zip on it, and unrefined athleticism had been forged into a fast, powerful, and fluid prodigy. A very rare rematch from the rural school's playoffs of a year before was going to test him, or so the media seemed to think. But the press was only important until the opening whistle. After that, well, not so much. The young man took that first snap from the thirty yard line. He wasn't some generational talent, but he knew from watching the RFL that looking off your opponent could do wonders. He did that, staring down his number two receiver. When the pocket began to collapse, he slid to the right just slightly to give himself room to throw, his eyes moved to lock onto a streaking receiver with three yards of separation. Easy for an arm that had been throwing hundreds of passes a day all offseason.

With one deep bomb, Sterling burned away every drop of ink that the local media had written about him.

"Where the hell did that come from you foxy bastard?"

Holy smokes! That was one of the best performances I've ever seen!

Good work, Sterling. I knew you could do it.

That's my boy! That's my boy!

Will you go to homecoming with my friend?

Sterling couldn't help but grin ear to ear, meeting his dad's eyes from across the sea of what had become an adoring fanbase. Suddenly, he'd gone from the "he's not very good" quarterback to being thrust onto the pinnacle of his school's spotlight, and everyone wanted to know what had happened this offseason. Suddenly, he was important, and suddenly, people were talking about his prospects as a collegiate football player.

But someone else was already on the case. Gary Ingrid, a scout for Cold Hill who had actually come to scout a defensive tackle from the same Paladins squad, smirked at his fortune, shooting the head coach a message.

ID'd an interesting quarterback prospect. Under the radar. Will monitor through this season, but we should make an offer soon if we're going too. Nobody knows that this kid exists, and he's looking like he checks all my boxes.

James Arthur stepped up to the dais and looked out at the assembled media.

There were a few of the usual suspects. The Woodstock Daily Mail, of course. The Portland Press-Herald. Various other outlets. That wasn't so unusual. His Woodstock City College team were defending national champions. But now, as defending champions, they were designated by the Sarzonian intercollegiate athletic organisation to represent the country internationally.

"Coach," one reporter asked. "This is the first time Sarzonia has ever sent a collegiate team to a competition of this nature since Parliament passed the new law. What's your reaction to this competition?"

Arthur smirked a little bit. He hadn't been asked by media about the geopolitical ramifications of representing Sarzonia internationally because with City College, he always made known which questions he was willing to answer, for starters. Then, the fact that Sarzonian law prohibited university teams from competing internationally except for individual players being part of, say, an Under 21 national team until recently meant that this question was simply one Arthur hadn't confronted.

"Well, we don't exactly discuss politics at Friedgen Stadium [the home grounds for the Climbers, with a capacity of 91,785]," he said. "I just suit up my players and we play who they tells us we're playing."

After the presser, Arthur walked back to his office and met up with his assistant head coach for defence, Chris Hoskins.

"Chris," he said, "you've been pretty active in getting the new law enacted that's letting us play this schedule. Can you help me out because I'm sure I'll get more questions about it."

Hoskins nodded. "Sure, Jim. What exactly can I help you with?"

"Well, for starters, do you know why Parliament had that law prohibiting collegiate teams from playing in competitions like this in the first place?"

"Well, it has to do with amateurism concepts," Hoskins said. "With the new laws allowing players to profit from their names and to earn a stipend for playing the major revenue sports like gridball, football, basketball, and lacrosse, it no longer made sense to keep a law that spoke to amateurism."

"What about the talk that Banijans asked Sarzonia to change the law? Unless I'm mistaken, foreign countries play no role in Sarzonian laws."

"That's a little bit simplistic," Hoskins countered. "Timiocato and Catherina don't write our laws. That much is true. But that doesn't mean they don't have an influence in our laws." Hoskins would know. Even though he spends a lot of time as assistant head coach for defence working on gridball, he also is actively involved in political discussions as his brother Thomas is currently a candidate for major of Woodstock. The current major Claudia Alta announced she was forming an exploratory committee to look into possibly running for President. Former lieutenant president Nicole Lewis announced she would not seek to run for public office again, and Alta was seen as one of the few candidates with a realistic chance to unseat President Grant Haffner. Thomas Hoskins told his younger brother Chris he wouldn't have run against Alta had she sought reelection as mayor. He enjoyed his brief tenure as an at large member of the City Council, but he was content to stay on the sidelines as a pundit.

"Remember when we abolished the death penalty?"

Arthur nodded. He remembered that because he cast his ballot in favour of retaining the death penalty, although only for the most vile cases of murder or other crimes traditionally punished by death. The fact that the death penalty was ultimately abolished didn't come from formal pressure by either Timiocato or Catherina, but the fact that Sarzonia's closest neighbours never had the death penalty on their books and the other members of the Queer Belt found its continued use in Sarzonia as a savage rejoinder to the notion of Sarzonia being a liberal democracy pointed to the fact that peer countries could, in fact, exert some indirect influence on Woodstock.

"In any event, boss, I think having our players represent our country in the NSCF is a great thing. It'll be a fun new challenge to gameplan for teams other than the ones we'd play in conference here on a weekly basis.

The Climbers would begin play in the Sequoia Conference with a couple of non-conference matches at the end of the season highlighted by a Week 13 clash against Northern Moravica at Ruwani Motor Speedway in Hangaza Region. The lights would be on, and the match was likely to draw considerable attention in both Banija and Sarzonia. SSPN would broadcast that match as its Match Of The Week. The intrigue for that match was already "through the roof," and even Arthur admitted as such.

Head Coach: Misha Florentine, 44
Born and raised in Felswyr, Forentine has been one of the biggest proponents of Gridiron Football in Chromatika for years. He was a successful businessperson under the Chromatik Party, but dissolved his state-run factory during the Rainbow Revolution, using the funds to create Chromatika's first Gridiron Football academy. A charismatic visionary, Florentine is someone who likes to delegate the actual football duties (he was never a player but loves the game) while being the front office manager. The fact that he has landed Felswyr State University a spot in the NSCF is a huge victory to both him and to Chromatik Gridiron Football as a whole. With Felswyr State's success in its first three years (3 Semifinals appearances, 2 Championship appearances, 1 Championship), his efforts have made him the hero of all gridiron fans in Chromatika.

Offensive Coordinator: Naia Curentino, 37
Who is Naia Curentino? She played football semiprofessionally in the Regional Leagues for a few years before calling her career quits and going all in on Florentine's plan. An avid fan of the NSCF (her favorite team until Felswyr State entered the competition was University of Loyola-Istria, she's revealed in a few interviews), she's the mad scientist of the Coaching Staff. Why use a 3-3-5? Her answer is that the personnel that the team has isn't suited to have any backs at all, and that speed and possessing the ball will do the job. She's very animated, very forward, and very driven. Someone that the team needs if they're going to make a name for themselves. In the first three years, Curentino has proven that her system isn't just a flash in the pan, having won the last NSCF. What can she cook up in Gwenderyn's Senior season?

Defensive Coordinator: Isidora Noles, 43
With Kasen Harrowitz leaving for Richardson University, Isidora Noles stepped in as Defensive Coordinator, promoted from her Secondary Coach position. She's been highly instrumental in how the team's come together defensively. She'll be using a 3-4-4 instead of the 3-3-5, which will mean that the team will be a bit more stout through the middle. As a disciplinarian and shrewd tactician who knows her personnel by heart, the Firehawks are hoping to not miss a beat. Their defense came through in the clutch to help the offense last season, but with so many underclassmen on the team, this may be the first year in Firehawk history where the defense takes the back seat.

Special Teams Coordinator: Vera James, 32
A savant of trick plays and taking risks, James is the youngest member of the staff by far. She views every instance of special teams impacting the match as an opportunity to hit it big, and will always look for players who can do more than they are supposed to. A tricky, catty individual, she's willing to do almost anything to win. McAllister and Katt were huge parts of the team's identity, and will likely continue to be so. This is the last year for both McAllister and Katt - and they are hoping to leave with a bang.

Head Physio: Marius Benne, 38
The younger brother of Zoe "Z" Benne, the Chromatik National Football Team's physio, Marius is the more serious of the two, all business all the time. He's pretty good at his job.

QB Sarai Gwenderyn

What hasn't Sarai Gwenderyn done in the first three seasons? For the first two seasons, she was the facilitator; in her Junior year, she led the team to the NSCF title. Now saddled with an offensive line with four new starters and three freshmen, she'll need to lead the squad off the field as well as on it. Having won the Most Outstanding Player of the year twice in her three seasons so far, Gwenderyn has already made a huge impact in the history of Firehawk football; they only hope to be able to send her off in style.

WR Otto Mitchell

Tired of having to deal with Drawkian corner backs four times a year, FSU went out and recruited Otto Mitchell from Drawkland. Though he may not be as tall as other Drawkians, he's the tallest target that Gwenderyn has ever had; with his height and jumping skills, the Firehawks will be able to air things out more than ever before. Mitchell was a huge part of the team's offense in their championship run, with ten receiving touchdowns, which led all receivers. Assisted by Stan Devlin and Carson Mettre, Mitchell is still making a name for himself with the knowledge that he will almost always have the name Alessandra Mio held up on a pedestal ahead of him.

PP Nyata Antonucci

Antonucci makes it here because she is the closest thing the Firehawks have to a traditional running back. She's expected to take the snap directly in most short-yardage situations, and it's been rumored that she's been working on her passing skills so that teams can't overcommit to the run when she's on the field. The creativity of FSU's staff when having her will be interesting to see. Now in her third year, Antonucci, Spendlove, and new fullback Vasilievna have been deemed "Position Player", or players who will fit in the formation as the Offensive Coordinator sees fit.

TE Isabella Pont

With Niles Gwivern having graduated, Pont steps in as the primary Tight End for the Firehawks. She's more of a blocking type than a receiving one, but Gwenderyn will need a security blanket; if she cannot be that person, they'll need someone else to.

C Mikel Kingston

The Center is the unquestionable leader of the line, and calls out defensive assignments on most plays. Cerebral while having the basics needed to excel in the position, Kingston is a paramount player, especially now that the rest of the line is full of Freshmen and Sophomores.

Offensive Philosophy

How does this team play with no backs? There is always a medium route runner, a short route runner, and a deep route runner, with one tight end blocking and another running an intermediate route. At times, Devlin and So come around on end-arounds, while Gwenderyn does pretty well on quarterback draws and designed keepers. It is customary for total rushing yards to be around fifty, while the quarterback will attempt around forty pass attempts. Though they do throw the ball all the time, they still huddle up most of the time and run the clock down to around 20 seconds or so. It is a tempo-based throwing scheme with most plays designed to have no more then five-second-dropbacks. Mitchell is the best deep threat, Devlin the speedster, while Mettre is the possession receiver. While Pont is the primary blocking tight end on most plays, the Firehawks are expecting to use new Tight End Hammer on some routes or the versatility of Antonucci, Vasilievna, and Spendlove. Pont does leak out if nobody comes on blitzes. Now with Antonucci, the team has a short yardage "back" of sorts, while Spendlove can do anything, with Vasilievna leading the way.

Defensive Philosophy

A 3-3-5 means that the Nickel Back is on the field for 100% of the time, and plays the effect of a third safety or a fourth linebacker. Mattieu and Oglesby are asked to be on islands a lot of the time, and Mazzi often helps, with Sterling helping out, too. This allows Manstrom and Park to play more aggressively. With the front seven being so young, the secondary will be asked to do more while Park will be given free reign to do as she sees fit.

Their receivers are more outside blockers that sometimes leak out to catch receivers in the flat. The QB is allowed to take the ball and run it or hand it off - they commit to the run well. Sheila Pantoja is a seasoned Quarterback who's used to the triple-option that the Lava run. Liana Anderson is a hybrid passer who can throw and run with equal enfficienty, while Hakuno Masakazu is an interesting fit as he's more of a pocket quarterback with an accurate arm. Is it possible that Masakazu can be brought in on passing downs? Who will win the backup job between two highly touted prospects?

Naomi Erehon is more of the pass blocking type who can leak out in the flat, but she doesn't play much.

This group of receivers are okay with catching the ball, but better used setting the edge on stretch running plays. In order for the Lava to do well, their Tight Ends will have to do well. The biggest problem for the Lava is that they graduated their starting tackles. Now, they have to lean on two players that have never made a start. Izaya Hanzo and Zacharias Jouonnais are both run-first players - which fits the Lava well - but Hanzo is more of a mauler while Jouronnais uses speed and quickness. Nastaya Fleming is a bit slower than either of them, while Steven Rand is the better passing blocker than any of them. They remain the biggest question for the Lava's offense.

Philosophy: The Lava run a 4-3, Cover 2, with an emphasis on stopping the run and pressuring the Quarterback. They aren't the best at stopping the pass, but in an ideal game, they'll control time of possession and get at the Quarterback enough times that it limits the opposition.

Jere Rinaldi is the best player on this defense - and it isn't close. Always at the point of attack, Rinaldi can rack up twenty tackles in a game. He's fast, he's physical, and he knows how to get everyone else to commit to the play. Estella St. Jones is the heir apparent to Rinaldi, and brings more ranginess and coverage skills to the position, while Joachim Montfort is a blunt object best used to hit the opposition.

A team made up of recently graduated players who don't want to say the sport goodbye, but also aren't done with their academic careers. As they turn from undergrads to postgrads, they aren't allowed on the D-league (Development League) teams anymore - and that is where the Professors come in. The universities that host a D-league team have joined forces to allow their players to keep playing while pursuing their postgrads. Younger players are almost always given priority on this team, so most will be 21-22 years old. This is both because they are most likely to turn pro, and because the older players are more likely to concentrate fully on their studies.

A lot of gaps had to be filled, and the scouting apparatus was in full swing early on in the season. It's very hard to evaluate university players given there's no university-only league, and players are only expected to go professional after having played on the Professors (or not playing for the Professors at all), but the idea is that the roster is again full of players that aim to continue playing the sport after university.

Like every team that's made up of Ko-orenites from all over the country, this team is slightly defensive. That said, there's more room in the offence for experimental plays and odd formations. The defence is fairly straightforward, varies between 3-4 and 4-3 looks (but trends a bit more towards a base 4-3), and is generally better against the pass than against the run. Even then, if they know the run is coming, they'll be prepared for that, don't expect they can't handle power at all.

Last season was much better than expected, which reinvigorated support for the team after a lackluster season 23. They were one vote away from the playoff in a Celestia conference that many thought was the best in the NSCF, at least, until the teams nearly universally lost their non-conference games (the Professors, meanwhile, went 3-0 in those). This season, a lot of original players are gone, and with a new look O-line, receiving skill positions, D-line, and safeties, there's a lot of work to do and the team might not immediately show its class. Add to that another scary looking Celestia conference (both Banijan teams, obviously, this time with the improved SNL Elephants as well as a secondary team from there, the Nature Egrets, and the Blue Jays from Barnettsville), there's more chances than last year (when the Baker Park team was one of four/five top 15 teams in the conference).

A Short Description of Crown’s College Football

Universities in Schima Bas differ greatly depending on their geographic location in the country. In the big cities, where higher education was first erected, universities were funded through private-public investment, and were known for having high standards and prioritizing studies. Through the country’s development, however, many foreigners wanted to see their type of university competition for their children.

Therefore, cities, especially Ourelasia, have one or more schools with a football program. There are not enough schools in Schima Bas that play football for a domestic league to form, and so many teams, like the Crown’s College Royal Bears, turn to international leagues.

Just because Schima Bas is not known for football does not mean that stadiums are empty or that players don’t want to come to colleges like Crown’s. In fact, a majority of the student body attends home matches, and fanbases have developed in major cities. It’s not uncommon to walk into a restaurant in Alquerdi, far from any of the football-playing colleges, and see a Royal Bears cap or shirt.

Crown’s College has an undergraduate population of 16,000. The University was a premier location for educated talent in the country before the civil war, and has been rebuilding in the wake of the conflict. The old home for the Royal Bears, Old Grant Field, was bombed during the war, and had to be demolished. For years, the Royal Bears did not play a home game. With an influx of Crown money, the university was able to redevelop itself and repair its damaged campus. Campus was opened again 2 years after the war had closed it.

This year, Crown’s College was ecstatic as a new football stadium opened, creatively named New Grant Field. It sits along the river, where an old association football stadium used to sit. A redevelopment of the area, a short boat-ride from campus, has led to a unique sailgating culture, mixing local traditions with old-world charm.

Fans have been known to get rowdy, and despite the government’s ban on alcohol, drunk fans have been known to fall into the waters, as proper signage is not an emphasis of Basian planning. Sneaking alcohol into the stadium is considered a right of passage for freshmen, but it’s not all that hard to accomplish as the policy is enforced randomly.

Fans demonstrate their love for the university’s football team by pumping two victory signs, often accompanied by shouting loudly when the opposing team’s offense is on the field. Players often perform this hand gesture, and then point them upwards, forming a kind of crown with their fingers. This gesture was popularized by legendary player and coach Tibbo Grant.

The team’s colors are Gold, White, and Purple. The team plays a white out game annually.

Offense

The Royal Bears offense tends to pass more often than run, but relies on both to get first-down yardage. More well known for their defensive play, the Royal Bears always have decent running backs, and tend to have strong tackles. This year, however, the offensive line looks horrible aside from senior RT Kylian Shroud. Starting quarterback senior Peter Galland will need to be quick on his feet to escape the pocket when needed.

Junior wide receiver Numair Hassan has impressed in pre-season training with speed off the line, but his history of turnovers may come back to haunt him this year. Sophomore tight end Bobby Quarter has bulked up a lot in preseason, and though he offers a lot of power as a passing option, will likely be used to assist in blocking for the shoddy offensive line.

Defense

The Royal Bears have long prided themselves over producing strong defensive back talent, and often have scouts monitoring the entire country, looking for the best defensive prospects that can be developed. Their pass defense is always exceptional, but the rush defense needs some work. Breakdowns in the secondary have not been uncommon in pre-season running plays.

The star of the team is arguably Bradley Sanderson, the senior cornerback. Agile and adaptable, the defensive back is a ball hawk in every stretch of the word. Assisting Sanderson is knockout senior linebacker Kyle Alcaso, whose pass rush and blitzing ability should be noted by all opposing coaches in the Woodlands Conference. Freshman cornerback Kuma Neumann is a player to keep an eye on this year as the team tests the high school talent.

The young coordinator spent a few years being the linebackers coach for the Lwanga Rhinos in the GFLB, before ascending to run the Banijan national team defense at World Bowl XL & XLI. Running a 3-4 defense that meshed with Ranorian HC Thomas Hall, Hall brought him on because he thought Uster would be a great culture fit. A promising GFLB career that was cut short by an ACL tear at age 25, and then a MCL tear on the same knee at age 27, he brings with him a ferocious intensity and a high amount of energy. He values man to man physical defense, and getting pressure on the quarterback. He is known to be a very aggressive playcaller. After coordinating elite defenses under a defensive minded head coach at the last two World Bowls, he looks to take the reigns as a head man his very first time at Elephant Valley University. In his first season, he managed to get the inexperienced Red Elephants to 5-5 in an extremely difficult Celestia conference that featured 4 top-12 schools.

Offensively, the Red Elephants run a system fairly balanced between the pass and the run. The starting formation utilises a fullback, but there will also be plays with two Tight Ends or three wideouts.

Defensively, the Red Elephants run a 3-4 bend-but-don’t-break defense focused on preventing big plays. They will also have a below average blitz rate.

Herron is a pocket passer who isn't very good outside of it, but has decent field vision. The Chromatik sophomore started last year as a freshman, and led the Red Elephants to 5 wins in their tough 13-game schedule. He threw for 13 touchdowns and ran in two more, while only throwing eight interceptions.

Lawson, a junior that used to play for North Haven, is the number one Running Back on a team that will likely run the ball a lot. He scored 10 total touchdowns last year, including two return touchdowns, and managed to barely eclipse 1,000 yards. The power back has support from Jones, one of many players from Chromatika, a bulldozing running back with size who likes to run through tackles, and Delaclav sophomore Gerhart, a power back who is versatile for all situations but is best suited for third down and goal line runs. Jones (1) and Gerhart (2) also managed to find the end zone last season.

Lapij-Zorno Wyt from Qusmo, the primary fullback who also scored a touchdown last season, graduated with his art degree and will be replaced by his old backup, junior Toleafoa. Like the other Tikariotians on this roster, he’s from the Cardannon Archipelago, and can also be used as a fourth running back. Harvey-Chandler was also added to the roster, but he is less likely to see any action.

Tight End was a position with much overhaul for the Red Elephants in the offseason. Chromatik Jin-Sung Kim, who had the third-most targets and a touchdown from Herron, graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering, and backup Isaako Tonumaipe'a completed his degree in International Affairs. To replace their production, EVU recruited Amara Pond, #12 ranked prospect in Chromatika, a great run blocker, a decent pass blocker, and a more than serviceable receiver. Nissen, the Delaclav sophomore who was TE3 in his freshman season, is back on the roster as well; he had one touchdown last season. He’s got good hands, but has much room for improvement as a blocker. Lastly, the Red Elephants also recruited van Vliet, a former rugby player from the Licentian Isles, who will probably get to focus on his history degree in his freshman year.

For the Wide Receiver room, the Red Elephants have Chromatik senior de Laramie, a precise route runner with great jumping skills, in her senior year. She was Herron’s primary target last season, coming away with 856 yards and 4 touchdowns. She is joined by Gabriel Yafet, a Banijan freshman out of Resurrection High School. He’s got all the characteristics of a future superstar receiver. He's got the size, the speed, the hands, and the work ethic. He's even got the particular attitude characteristic of #1 wideouts at the pro level, as he's known for extravagant touchdown celebrations. He could be a superstar for the Red Elephants and frequent target for Herron in the future. The third receiver on the roster is a good deep threat, Tikariotian Pulefaasisina, who scored 538 yards and 3 touchdowns last season as Herron’s second-most frequent target. Klein, who was mostly a slot receiver, got her degree in Criminal Justice and will not return; with 1 scored touchdown in her senior year, Rachelle Klein ended her collegiate career as the South Newlandian with the most touchdowns. Schapiro, the only student on EVU from Ha’Yarok, also had a touchdown last year. Parker is another option as a deep threat.

Yakisama, yet another Chromatik starter, will play at center. He’s a fairly mobile lineman who can pull out to be in front of runners and likes to bulldoze people. He played very well last season, and will hopefully keep up the good protection for Herron. McGowan, former second center, ended his career, deciding against returning for his senior season battling injuries; he will be replaced by replacement center and long snapper Dion Young.

Robles, meanwhile, offered average contributions last year; and EVU made another splash, recruiting Georgine Pine, #13 ranked prospect from Chromatika, specializes in the run game. She may be on the small side, but she has the hands and the feet to make up for any size deficits; but it has to be seen whether she can adapt to a heavier-passing offense.

He will take the starting job from Akongo, a senior from Mlima Kijani; who played solidly last year with 2.5 sacks and will step back in if Hartman struggles.

She’s certainly got the talent to pull that off. The duo played together last season as well, with Jones-Beckett dominating with 8.5 sacks and Daniels contributing 6.

At Inside Linebacker, the team has four players of about equal strength. Sylax-Kresp, a strong Qusmi sophomore, and Hutmacher, who last played for the Sarkewaka School and was the defensive player of the season in the not so famous Zeta Reka Scholastic League. There was a lot of rotation between the four here, with Manning, a former rugby player who decided to try out for the gridiron team, and Tikariotian sophomore Ala’ilima getting some snaps as well. The Red Elephants could really use an experienced player here.

At corner, EVU has Mines, a physical corner who does better tackling after the catch than preventing the catch, and Bell, a Delaclav senior, who transferred from UB Manchester. Bell’s a solid containing cornerback who reads routes well, but does not take a lot of risks to make big plays. The two played together in their junior seasons as well, with Mines recording 3 interceptions, including one he took back for six, and Bell adding two picks as well. Corner has been a strong spot for the Red Elephants last season.

With Strong Safety Grey Jr., another one of the seemingly endless Chromatik key players who also recorded two interceptions last year, graduating, backup Joshua Cox will step in full-time. The Hannasean sophomore will probably be a downgrade, but should still be a very capable player.
At Free Safety, the team will start Parrish again, who transferred from Arana State for his junior season. He likes to go for deflections and picks up the middle, but can be burned by faster downfield threats.

Kicker:
K: #3 Mindy Jackson (Chromatika) (sophomore) Major: Journalism
Jackson is an accurate kicker who has decent range but is most reliable within forty-five yards. She went 21/24 on Field Goals last season, and also missed just two extra points.

Middleton is a booming punter who isn't the best in directional punts but can really get the ball to the other side of the field.

Sparks used to coach the national team of Kohnhead, but was fired after a couple seasons of failing to break through. The usually offensive-minded, pass-heavy coach will have to adjust to a major change of pace, not only switching to college football, but also in playstyle. The Egrets’ style is partially moulded by their playing conditions – the Jungledrom is exposed to the elements, and with frequent rain in Ratzupalfu, trying to pass in Ratzupalfu can be a tricky endeavour.
Offensive coordinator:

Because of this, the Egrets will be heavily favouring the run over the pass, especially at home. There will be lots of action from the fullbacks, but, especially on the road or in dry weather, also a lot of play action. Still, expect a fullback on the field on the majority of plays from scrimmage.

Similarly, the 4-3 defense is focused on stifling the opposing ground game. There will be some blitzes, especially against pass-heavy opposition, but the Egrets are primarily focused on limiting yards on the ground.

Snelweg is certainly the best quarterback prospect in the history of South Newlandia, and even though that is not a particularly high bar to clear, the 7 is a decent QB. He’s fast, and can easily pick up yards on the ground and escape sacks, and is also an okay passer. His decision making could improve. His backup up be Bollonoichian sophomore Tye Stark, a philosophy major.

Obviously, the Egrets have a decent running back room; spearheaded by Zamandi Ayana, a top recruit from Banija. He’s a big, powerful running back who is going to put his head and shoulder down, and run right through anybody. Fantikos was the #1 recruit out of South Newlandia (again, not a high bar to clear), he’s not big for a running back, but makes it work with his quick feet and general elusiveness, allowing him to break tackles and move the ball. He’s also good at holding on to the ball. This 1-2 punch will share most of the workload, but Bollonichian junior Jerome is not to be underestimated either. One weakness of this group is that none of them are good options to catch a pass, which could be a weakness.

Fullbacks:

Calum Bruce, a former rugby player from The Licentian Isles, will be the main fullback for the Egrets. The Chemistry major certainly has the size to be a great blocker for Ayana and Fantikos.

The Wide Receiver room is stacked as well, with Zoology major Jefferson, who has decent quickness off the line but struggles with drops and just missed the top-25 recruits list as WR1. Nicole Irvine, #7 recruit from Kohnhead, a slot receiver who was the best route runner in the nation last season almost always getting separation. Irvine doesn't have the size to play on the outside and her speed is something in the 4.4 area of a bit below giving her the ability to go deep often but not be a true burner. She will be the second WR, and moved to the slot on occasion; the Egrets hope for her to do the best she can despite being undersized. Delaclavan Lukasz Matusz rounds out the group; he’s flamboyant and confident wideout with a flair for the one-handed and diving grabs who is really fast, but experts expect him to struggle to learn the playbook. This young group of freshman could be a strength or a weakness for the Egrets – they lack experience, but have the skills to be a great asset anyway.

Centers:

Hakam al-Shaban, a sophomore from Mlima Kijani, is the center for the Egrets. As a whole, the Offensive Line will likely be blocking for the running backs more than they try to prevent sacks.

He’s backed up by another big guy from Mlima Kijani. On the other side, Lewis Whitfield, a big, experienced senior, will get the nod before the young, talented Lalo Pulefaasisina from the Græntfjaller Multinesia.

Overall, this O-Line could still use some upgrades for future seasons, but this is to be expected on a new school.

Edison-Downs is, in many ways, the captain of the defense. While he’s not a phenomenal player by any means, the senior is just about done with his communications degree, and he’s got extremely good people skills. He can really rally a defense, and he’s not too bad himself, either.

The secondary is likely the strong point of the defense, with Kelly, a well-rounded, shutdown corner who can hang with all kinds of receivers, recruited from Delaclavan Catherina East 127th High, and Li Xuen, a very tall corner who makes up for his lack of speed with his reach, expected to shut down most things; and Bonifaco Nacu Manzano is a suitable slot corner as well.

Vralx-Rilan likes to blitz but can get lost in coverage and can be considered one of the projects for the coaching staff, but the young, talented safety could develop into a great player. Strongbow Valdez already is one, capable of making spectacular athletic plays, even when he tends to go for risky moves on occasion. The coaching staff will have to slow down the four freshman Defensive Backs a little bit to prevent them from going too wild, but they should be able to blossom into great players.

Offensive Scheme: This is an option offense at its finest, built on the speed and agility of the quarterback and the running backs. Shah and Donnelly have cooked up an offensive scheme that will pound the ball down your throat running the football but also has blistering speed all over the field. Donnelly is on record saying that the strong arm quarterback is one of the most overrated aspects in football. In terms of their passing offense; short, quick, and crisp passes are what is required and they like to get Johansson on the move a lot. While three receivers start, the team plays a lot of three back sets and loves hybrid receivers who can lineup in the backfield as well. This offense will score a lot in a loaded Big Eight conference as they have in every season.

Defensive Scheme: The defense runs a very aggressive 4-2-5 that is built on speed at all three levels in particular at the linebacking group. The defensive line is the most emphasized part of this in particular a big nose tackle in the middle is required. Generating pressure will take some of the load off of the linebackers shoulders who need to have quick instincts and be able to blitz if necessary. Coverage is also easier on the secondary as there are 5 of them. This is a an uncommon base defense but Addison Lyons has assured everyone that it will work at this level. Over the course of three seasons we have seen mixed messages defensively, while in conference the defense never tends to do well that can be attributed to the extremely high levels of offense we see from the Big Eight schools. Lyons is not on the hot seat per say but if Kohnhead once again fail to win the Big Eight or FSU we could see her as a scapegoat.

Emilee Johansson had big shoes to fill last season coming in for the legend himself in Byron Joseph who just led the Kohnhead World Bowl team to a quarterfinals appearance. Joseph made the semifinals in KCU's first season in the NSCF and Johansson brought us back. There were some struggles midseason as teams started to adapt like getting shutout against rivals Richardson but by the second half of the season she was on a roll. She also came closer to beating FSU than Joseph ever did with a heartbreaking one point loss that came down to a failed two point play conversion. While some crazy KCU fans will insist she's better than Sarai, she isn't but can be a capable backup for Chromatika and a star in the NSCF in her own right. Johansson has the speed to run (she is the quarterback of the best option offense in football) but is probably a better passer than Byron Joseph ever was. She still has a lot to prove in her sophmore season but we certainly aren't doubting her. Anthony Newhouse is a solid backup with decent potential who wasn't ever given a fair shot, Reese is a hardworking Senior who we will try to get on the field for the first time ever in a blowout.

Herman Whitworth was the star of the offense before an untimely injury suffered late in his freshman campaign. After taking on a small role during the World Bowl he came back and dominated during the conference season of his sophmore year breaking 1500 yards in the second best offense in college football. However a leg injury he suffered limited him for the rest of the season and our offense shut down because of it. Junior season he battled injuries all year before starring for our offense in the World Bowl. Whitworth brings the thunder with his power although he's more than just a power back and he can contribute in the passing game although in a limited capacity. The biggest question mark with Whitworth is his health, when healthy he's quite possibly the best running back in college football however his style of play often has him beat up and the amount of touches he gets is higher than it should be. Rowena Hastroff from Chromatika brings the lightning and gives us a deadly 1-2 punch on the ground and will have a large role this season to limit Whitworth's touches. Hastroff's speed is perfect to balance out the ground and pound style that Whitworth brings to the table. Mark Flynn is the power backup and will see a fair amount of action conisdering our offensive style, Jessie Holder has some all around talent but her path to playing time is very crowded to say the least with Whitworth and Hastroff the same year or younger than her.

Kalu Alazar was the best offensive player in his year out of Banija and became our #1 receiver in just year one due to his incredible route running which was perfect in our short passing game. He also became a threat in the redzone as his frame allows for contested catches and he caught a lot of touchdown passes which getting 800 yards through the air. Last season he built on that easily surpassing the 1000 yard mark and will hopefully be even better this season. While Northwest Kalactin is no longer sending schools to the NSCF, Keith Gray remains on the team as our speed demon and return man. Gray spent much of his first season as the fourth receiver who we brought onto the field in some cases to manufacture touches to as he's just so fast and elusive with the ball in his hand. Last season he was in the slot but this season he will operate as a burner on the outside while the often in trouble off the field Blitz Taurus takes over in the slot. Taurus was suspended for pretending to piss in his helmet after scoring against Cold Hill and accidentally went home to Ranoria after a win last season because he was so drunk. The coaching staff is fed up with him and is more than ready to give Doris Holt a shot if Taurus doesn't produce on the field and continues his behaviors off of it.

TE: Tom Lundgren (Freshman) - Valanora

Tight end will hopefully have gone from a weakness to a strength with the signings of two big recruits in Tom Lundgren out of Valanora and Danicka Hess from Kohnhead. Reports indicate that Lundgren will be the day one starter with his abilties over the middle which coincides with the skillset of Hess. Both should get plenty of playing time but their battle over the next four seasons will be fun to watch. This does make Benny Devlin pretty much a nonfactor with Braun serving as the backup blocking tight end after putting on some weight.

Gott and Raynor established themselves as one of the best tackle duos in college football last season with Gott as the primary run blocker with his size and Raynor taking over for Johansson's blind side as an absolute beast. Raynor has been given the captain's patch and the two should help solidy one of the many strengths of this offense. Kate Humphries is the backup swing tackle that I can't really say I'm confident in starting and Myah Wardle is still a project who couldn't make the team as a freshman.

One starter last year in Nathan Long will be returning to the team as a junior after having been on the bench his freshman year although he is a former top 10 recruit from our nation. Pa Soley a transfer from Banija will take over next to him after having been on a community college team earlier and while the jump to the NSCF will be a big one he has the talent to make it work. Garfield and Cowan are there to push him as decent recruits from two years ago if he struggles.

Mark Harper (Freshman)

Cleverland returns for her 4th season after having started the entirety of her collegiate career. You can definitely see the improvement between now and then and the weight that she has put on. Mark Harper was the 13th ranked prospect in last year's class and is a future piece who will not challenge Cleverland this year.

The defensive end group will be changing a little bit with star pass rusher Devin River moving on after two seasons for the Mighty Eagles. The former Richardson man was vital last season and for the first time Robert Lawrence will be put in the spotlight after two seasons of being the second rusher. He certainly has the talent to dominate but with a lot of turnover on the defensive line could face a lot of double teams. Coley has vaulted Maldonado for the second spot after both played a decent amount last season from the bench, Hardy walked on to this team and will get some playing time.

The defensive tackle position lost two players from last season but will be retaining Dakota Cannon who started as a freshman after being a big recruiting win. Albie Snow was a starter last year but he graduated and now Grant McManis will get his turn to start with Patrick Spencer and Myah Duggen ready to serve as depth pieces. The defensive line in general is the group most primed to take a step back after being amazing the last two seasons.

Mark Lundin was a big get for this defense and will be thrust into playing time immediately as the signal caller for the defense. Next to Lundin will be Brent Stafford a four year starter who is a thumper and will get the captain's patch, the depth is questionable but the Lundin-Stafford duo especially if Lundin plays as well as advertised could be huge. Mcloud was a big signing and will serve as the third linebacker this season before hopefully becoming the second starter in his sophmore year.

Kristen Werther has a lot of potential as our 4th corner and she knows she will have a big role next year as a starter and also happens to be the emergency kicker.

Jonas Klein had a very good freshman season at free safety but really struggled his sophmore season and with Samuel Church really only able to play as the free safety so Klein underwent a switch to play in the hybrid strong safety role which he did. Church was as good as advertised while Klein bounced back in a big way. The secondary as a whole should be a strength on the defense for the first time which could be big in limiting Strathos and the Cold Hill offense as well as Diego Rodriguez. Do we even need to worry about the Richardson passing attack?

Offensive Scheme: This is quite simply an air raid offense which is reliant on skilled receivers a quarterback who's accurate, smart, and has a strong arm and will pass 70% of the time approximately although depending on the progression of running back Sellers this could change. While some may say it's a basic offensive appraoch it works the way it does and should allow especially in a high scoring Big Eight for Swisston City to consistently put points on the board. Running backs will have a job out of the backfield catching passes and will still get a decent amount of carries, we will carry tight ends on the roster however they will not start and will mostly be used in red zone packages.

Defensive Scheme: The defense will operate out of a base 4-3 formation and will utilize a lot of the common cover two defense. The linebackers need to know how to cover yet also need to know how to stop the run and blitz if necessary. The defensive line will as expected feature pass rushers and at Swisston City they are not really emphasized relying on schemes, blitzes, and finding weaknesses to get pressure as opposed to basic front four rushing. The corners will stick to a side of the field and not on a person although man defense is the base and the safties will each try to take away a half of the field deep without a roving strong safety that many teams use.

Felswyr State University Firehawks Preview: Gwenderyn's Last Dance

What do you do once you've won it all? Conventional wisdom says, do it again; more important than that to most Firehawk fans, though, is the end of a remarkable career - that of Sarai Michelle Bradwyn Gwenderyn. She was at the forefront of the Firehawks' emergence, helping the team to that 10-0 conference record in their inaugural season, leading to the loss against Cold Hill at the Championship Game. She was the reason why the team was able to prove that the first season wasn't a fluke and take the team to the Semifinals. Finally, she was the reason that the team won the NSCF title last season, with seventeen passing touchdowns and sixteen rushing touchdowns in the year.

Now, Sarai Gwenderyn is in her last year, having won two Most Outstanding Player awards and the last NSCF Championship. Her supporting cast is a bit thin this season on the offensive side of the ball, having lost Niles Gwivern, the senior Tight End and security blanket. Four starters on the line will be underclassmen, including three Freshmen - one from Kohnhead, one from Banija, and the last from Ranoria. Mikel Kingston will be the Senior center keeping them all in line - his leadership will be much needed. Julian Watt, Alexis Coleman, Kassa Essayas, and Trenton Herbert will be the reason why the Firehawks continue their dominance or the reason why they fall off the top of the hill.

Otto Mitchell was brought in to be the tall player who caught everything thrown in his radius - and he's done just that. Stan Devlin is the speedster to take a screen pass and turn it into a home run. Carson Mettre, now in his final year, will be that Senior presence who can possess the ball. So Kwang-Sun can be the person who ends up being the closest thing the Firehawks has to Alessandra Mio; Kim Bo-Mi is a good last option, knowing how to create space in the open.

The limitations of the Firehawks' offense will be placed on how creative they are in using the three Position Players of Nyata Antonucci, Xanderick Spendlove, and N. B. Vasilievna, the new Fullback for the squad. The Firehawks now actually have personnel to line up on the I-formation and pound the ball if they want to, or they can snap the ball directly to Antonucci and have Vasilievna lead the way. Spendlove has grown into a decent receiving threat who can still throw a mean spiral. Naia Curentino needs to counteract the lack of experience from the rest of the squad with some creativity.

On the defensive side of the ball, this will be the weakest side that the Firehawks have ever fielded. Aubin Rouzet and Sizo Ashenafi will be fresh off the edge while Konstantin Vollmacht will clog up the middle; Nicole Manstrom and Rolan Monroe will bring heat from the edge while Reile Jordan and the ever-present Park Mi-Hyeon will plug up the middle. Park is the best defender by far, and now, Sage "Bricks" Sterling and Ozioma Mazzi will be called to play a bigger role while Tara Langlois-Zuluka and Magnus Lindhjem will have meaningful snaps off the bench.

Paul Mattieu will lead the secondary with Brianna Oglesby being on the other side, the Cassadaiguan having made huge strides. Katie Sawyer is the nickel, while Dorothé Amble the freshman is ready to go.

Sara McAllister has, thankfully, survived; Michelle Breille is still learning, but will be ready. Nellie Katt has been the old reliable, while now, Viktor Andrei is there. Anything else than a Quarterfinals berth would be a disaster for the Firehawks; they're really hoping they can send Gwenderyn to the Iron Legion on a high note.

Staramara Tech University Lava Preview: The Slow Boil

How do you approach your first season in the NSCF when the other school that's participating in your country has been a sensation since their inaugural season? That's the question facing Head Coach Laverna Getz as she gets her Lava ready for their season opener against Hoofstra University at Johnston Memorial Stadium in Staramara in MD1 of NSCF 25.

There was some controversy when Staramara Technical University was chosen to be the second school entered into the NSCF from Chromatika, as it was only because Chromia Central College University, Z'ai'ai University of Technology, and University of Myana declined to leave the Chromatik Collegiate Gridiron Conference that the honor went to Staramara Technical. Apparently, the market shares of being in the CCGC was too enticing for the Big Three to make the move, though some pundits are saying that they were afraid of potentially losing to Felswyr State and thus proving that it was the right move for Felswyr State to be in the NSCF in the first place.

So, who are the Lava? What can we expect from them? In the first two seasons of the CCGC, the Lava were a smashmouth, run-first team that prided themselves with running the ball down their opposition's throat. Ardell Moreau was their workhorse, often running more than thirty times a game and getting more than 200 yards in multiple occasions. Defensively, Marquitta Dotson and Viviana Stafford led the way as the Lava showed that they were good against the run. The way to beat them was over the top or getting a huge lead ahead of them; otherwise, they were really good at holding the ball for long stretches of time.

Then, Moreau, Dotson, and Stafford all graduated. Now, Sheila Pantoja has a freshman back in Gabriele Zeigler (who's more of a pass catcher than a physical runner), who will share time with Lana Rhodes, the typical Lava running back, a battering ram. Lashon Upshaw will be the one to lead the way on all runs, as the fullback is expected on the field for more than 95% of offensive plays. The duo of Weathers and Rowland will be expected on the field at all times, while Borden will be the lone receiver. More importantly, Jefferson Reeves and Donella Ruffin anchor the offensive line, while Park Si-U will be the Freshman center leading them. Expect plenty of runs and checkdowns with a lot of screen passes.

Defensively, the Lava excel at stopping the run. Deandre Link and Taniuchi Kai crash down the edge, Gérald Bullion and Lachelle Wharton plug up the middle, and Masresha Meba is the star waiting to shine. Jere Rinaldi is the leader of the defense, and will be almost everywhere. The Safeties are where there are the most experienced, with Taggart able to crash in.

Ceneisis Naval Academy is an American football team based in Porcusces, Ceneisis, Abanhfleft. Its home ground is Lieutenant Helmut Tatuwal Memorial Athletic Field, a 12,470-seater park named after Lieutenant Helmut Tatuwal, son of former Ceneisis governor Taram Tatuwal and a recipient of the Parliamentary Medal of Honor for his actions during the 2013 Fhulghamous Crisis. The team is a perennial contender in Abanhfleft's NCAA system, and has won at least eight titles in the last thirteen years, most recently the NSCF's Zephyr Conference. They are noted for being a defensive-minded team in a country where most often offense is deemed as the best defense. Also, for the first time in its history, Ceneisis Naval Academy will field female players for the NSCF. Times have sadly moved on for Ceneisis Naval though, and while the team and the Academy have managed to secure agreements with both Admiral Porcusces and Sporting Ceneisis regarding the use of their stadia, the program is at its lowest point since its entry into NSCF, but there is hope that a revitalization is on the way thanks to recruitment efforts from beyond the borders of Abanhfleft.

Hoofstra University is an elite private university upstream on the Delamare river from Fillydelphia proper. Founded by an eccentric pair of siblings of a local agricultural baron, it was the first university founded outside of the nation’s (then much smaller) urban centers. By effectively giving a new career outlet to the vast swathes of ponies living in more rural areas—one that featured dramatically higher upward mobility—Hoofstra quickly became a center for innovation by collating perspectives from more walks of life than ever before. In particular their economics department has had an outsized impact on the course of Karditani history for better and for worse. It was these hallowed halls where the seeds of their modern vision of Anarcho-Capitalism were sown.

As early practitioners of such inventive and aggressive business practices, the institution always had an outsized amount of funding to throw around and some of that inevitably found its way into the sports programs. The Pride aren’t the oldest existing collegiate gridiron team, but do have the longest contiguous history as other elder rivals had periods of budget constraints shuttering teams. In modern times, the competition—and profits—have tightened to the point that it’s difficult for any one uni to become truly dominant, but Hoofstra perennially remains a top contender and on the tip of the peoples’ tongues when bants commence. The student body is also renowned as being the queerest across Karditan.

Ledbetter Field, named after an alumni who provided a major contribution to its construction, is surrounded on three sides by farms used by Hoofstra’s agricultural department. The contents of the fields can vary from archetypical practice crops like standard yields of wheat and barley when undergrads are learning the ropes, to extravagant experiments by grad students and professors such as radiation-enhanced megafruits. There’s only been the one accident of eviscertomatoes escaping containment and that was decades ago, so no reason for visiting fans to be alarmed by van-sized gourds. Concessions also serves remarkably healthy fare, though if you really want some deep fried burgers and a steady stream of beer you don’t need to look hard to find that as well. The fourth side faces the rest of Hoofstra’s athletic complex, featuring several baseball fields, soccer pitches, and a rally course.

It’s bittersweet to see Tzeench Eramarian graduate after finally having found his stride in the climatic final-day 41-point effort against Sadeg last cycle, but time comes for us all. The Pride are once more left bereft of any clear choice or direction when it comes to quarterbacks, so basically by seniority’s sake is the starting spot being handed to senior Johnny Montgomery. The up-to-this-point career backup is skilled in bubble position and preventing lossage of yards, but uh… the game ain’t about not losing yards, y’know? At least Fox provides the first truly quality target the Pride can tout in a long while, combining a hot trot with a set of hot hands the side has been sorely lacking. If Montgomery can get the ball anywhere in their vicinity good things may yet happen. Brookford has also forged herself into quite the competent wideout, but working with an effectively new and effectively worse QB might undo some of that progress.

They’ll likely be going to the well of handing Oberon (below) the ball and smashing in behind that strong left side any time they’re a yard or two short. Will it be predictable? Yes. Will it be hard to beat anyway? With the tight blocking team Trident and Nails make, yes.

As for the institution itself, Université du Saguenay (official known as Université du Saguenay à South Bend) is considered one of the best universities in Quebec, in particular for its undergraduate education. While excellent across the board, Saguenay is in particular renowned for its world-renowned Cavani School of Business, Lawrence A. Gong School of Architecture, and humanities programs. Egrets: Where do they come from, where do they go?

The Ratzupalfu University of Nature is the second-biggest university in South Newlandia. It’s not as historic as EVU, but it has existed for some years, and can be considered one of the most interesting universities in South Newlandia. Located near the centre of the country, in the middle of the South Newlandian jungle, getting there can be a little bit tricky, but once there, you’ll find one of the most beautiful universities. The label “of Nature” works two-fold – for one, RUoN has many programs and many students with nature-related majors, such as Zoology, Biology, Chemistry, and so on; but the University is also located in the middle “of Nature” itself, largely surrounded by dense forest. The wildlife of South Newlandia can frequently be seen just outside of the grounds of the university.

The namesake of the NSCF team is the Egret. There are many different kinds of Egrets in South Newlandia, but the most common one is the Cattle egret, which is the mascot of the school and also depicted on the helmet. As the legend goes, when the University was founded, a ceremony was held on the new grounds when a Cattle Egret landed on the head of the then-president of South Newlandia. Therefore, the Egret was seen as the first student at the university, and remains the symbol of the university to this day.

Like any university in South Newlandia, RUoN has many foreign students, who were instrumental in bringing gridiron to the city. Today, gridiron football is one of the more popular sports in the big cities of South Newlandia, but this has not always been the case, and until today, South Newlandia has never done much in the world of gridiron on their own. Like EVU, RUoN is dominated by foreign students, some of which are only there because of the new NSCF team, but some also are regular students. 17 of the 22 starting players on the Egrets are not South Newlandians; which is largely unique to NSCF except for the Red Elephants, who have 19 of 22 players not from South Newlandia.

What can the Egrets achieve in their first season? It’s not going to be easy, especially on the road. The Egrets are the only unranked school in the Celestia this year. One wildcard they have is their home stadium, the Jungledrom. The small, 2,186 seat stadium is exposed to the elements and plays well with the run-heavy offense the Egrets run. However, they are still expected to be underdogs in this extremely difficult conference, and one main goal of the team will be to defeat the Red Elephants when they come to Ratzupalfu in Week 7.

Loyola-Istria Preview- Can they return to where they feel they belong?

HERZEGOVINA CITY, MORAVICA- We have been waiting, and waiting, for the start of college football season. One of the most anticipated NSCF seasons in quite a while- the Silver Edition of the NSCF. After a shrunken NSCF last season, where just 30 teams entered, we have a much larger than usual NSCF. Props to the front office- 42 schools have entered, which means not only the return of a sixth conference, but the return of a seventh conference as well. And with the return of the Mineral conference, of course, UC-Baker Park will no longer be an in-conference rival for Loyola-Istria.

The Celestia does not figure to get any sort of easier however. With Elephant Valley rising in their second season, the Celestia has a minimum of four title contenders, with NMU, Loyola-Istria, the Salamantics, and Elephant Valley all currently sitting as co-favorites to emerge out of the Celestia Conference as the conference's champion, and, most importantly, with that automatic playoff berth. "It promises to be the NSCF's most competitive conference once again." Said former NMU QB and present-day TV analyst Bastiaan Rodo. "Lots of pro-style offenses, really talented defenses- expect, like last season, another ultracompetitive bloodbath."

Whatever Happened to Loyola's home field advantage?

35 games. That was the length of Loyola's record home winning streak in this competition, one of the most impressive streaks we've seen in this competition. The Istria Lightning Yard was an absolute fortress. NSCF 14, NSCF 17, NSCF 18, and NSCF 19, there wasn't anybody who could win at the Lightning Yard. "The crowd, the noise, the ambience, the energy of the stadium- it was near impossible for visitors to win there for a long time." Said QB Isaka Jawara, the starting QB for Loyola-Istria from NSCF 17-19. "What an advantage that stadium was for us. Easily the biggest home field advantage, for a long time, in the competition."

But then, that winning streak was ended. By none other than their bitter national rivals from across the Moravica region, NMU. NSCF 19 playoffs. The semifinals. Everything on the line, as Isaka Jawara, in his senior year, was trying to win his second career title. NMU, of course, still hadn't won the NSCF at that point. And in one of the great upset wins in the history of this bitter rivalry, the bubble was popped at the Istria Lightning Yard. In NSCF 20, they lost another home game, and then, everybody started getting wins here.

Felswyr State. The Salamantics Universities. Northern Moravica has now won four games in a row at the Istria Lighting Yard. UC-Baker Park won there last year. The list goes on and on. "As we restore ourselves to our prior prominence, the thing we must do at the top of that list is make the Lightning Yard a fortress once again." Said the Head Coach, Alanso Isa. "We got the best fans in the entire damn sport- we're going to make sure that opposing teams, no matter who they are, fear a trip to this stadium once again."

Coaching Staff Changes

This is Alanso Isa's 8th season as the team's head coach. He has won a NSCF title, and been to another NSCF championship game. He's won loads of games in his tenure year. And yet- this is the first time he's hiring his own coordinators? The answer is yes. After speculation over his job in the 7-7 season last year, he has decided to make some widescale changes among his coaching staff.

Long-time Defensive Coordinator Joseph Lukwago, who had been the school's defensive coordinator for every single NSCF season, who was 78 years old entering this season, decided to retire. And then Dennis Zervos, after being rumored to take over the head man's job for the last year, left on his own accord. That gave Isa, for the first time, the opportunity to hire his own coordinators. And he did exactly that. Bethlehem Nangobi is the most intriguing person here. She's going to be calling plays for the first time in her own career. It's Isa's offense, of course, but he told reporters that she would be the primary play-caller.

A Quarterbacks Coach from the pros, she's the highest ranking female coach either Banijan NSCF school has ever had. But she has a job- unleash Ebou Hairte. Hairte, quietly, had an excellent first season as a starter last year, although he slipped under the radar due to the school's 6-7 record. "We've got a lot of positive things we can build on here." She told reporters. "And look- we go to NMU in week 1. There is no 'easing into the season' anymore with the current schedule. They're our local rivals. The defending conference champions. We're making it that much more of a priority to be our rivals around here. Which means we have to be able to hit the ground running on offense. And I assure you- our offensive philosophy of 'speed in space' will come to fruition a lot sooner than people think."

On the defensive side, we have Rasheed Moyo. Now, this team is, and has always been, built around their high-octane offense. That's simply how it is at Loyola-Istria, star quarterbacks and receivers and running backs building leads, with defenses designed to take advantage of those high stress offenses trying to desperately come back. If the offense lives up to the billing, then Moyo is the perfect hire. He has talked repeatedly about how getting into the backfield is the number one priority for the defense, and allowing their star DEs, especially Abram Fairbanks, to get to the quarterback. "A guy like Fairbanks is one of the best pass rushers in all of college football." He told reporters. "It's our job to move him across the line and take advantage of his skillset. Take the pressure off. Ensure less double teams." Their biggest challenge of course, will be week 1, away to NMU.

Key Players

Let's go through this, shall we?

Ebou Hairte, the junior quarterback, is obviously the most important player on this team. He is the engine that makes the whole thing go. He was highly touted, and showed his ability last in year in flashes, against mostly overmatched opponents. Towards the end of the season, he performed well against stingy defenses from Felswyr State, although he struggled continuously against NMU, and especially against Richardson. The pressure a Loyola quarterback deals with. He's got to step up and perform in big games this year, to get the type of attention that he feels he deserves.

Sophomore TIght End Russell Farmer is going to be a key cog for this team. He was unleashed last season against Felswyr State, stunning the champions with his two touchdown receptions in Loyola's big road upset in that rivalry. He's got the skillset to be a true superstar tight end, and he's got just the offense to do it in. With receivers like Rachel Emerson and Lafi Senghore, being able to cover those two and Farmer will be a huge challenge for opposing defenses. Expect the Blue Thunder to look to him especially in the red zone, as they look to work on improving their ability to finish drives.

ANd then we'll talk about the Cassadagan wide receiver, Rachel Emerson. Now the #1 wideout for this team, the first woman to ever play for Loyola-Istria is going to get #1 WR treatment from everybody. The play-callers, the quarterback, and the defense. She showed her raw talent last year, although everybody knows its dangerous to make a true freshman your #1 WR straight out of the gate. Now, she'll really get a chance to develop her game. She's got chemistry, with so many skill position players returning. Will this be a breakout year for the sophomore?

THe best player on the defense is Abram Fairbanks. The Ranorian EDGE rusher is going to lead a defense that, if we are frank, is not going to be feared by most of its opponents. The lineback corps are improving, as the front seven is easily the strength of this team. But the biggest question marks for this defense will be in the secondary, especially at cornerback. That is what makes it even more important that the Blue Thunder get to the QB. And there is nobody better at that than Abram Fairbanks. IF he stays healthy, if he can cause havoc- he can wreck the best of gameplans. He effects games in so many ways. He can stop the run, he can cover in the flat, but his best skill is commanding double teams and getting to the Quarterback. If he continues to do that, then he can help protect what is widely seen as a weak secondary behind him.

Prediction

We're going to go with 8-5. Two losses to NMU, a loss to the Salamantics away, and then a home loss to FSU before losing the final game to Richardson. We'll see how it pans out for them, eh?
