Childhood, Traces
PART 7 - Moondance (1)

The next morning, what seemed to be the neverending horizons found under the sun scoped all over the Great Calanian Desert, as the brutal, throttling self told us that we were slowly on the final stretch of travels. Many were looking outside in despair or awe, as the train part their way through the desert in what was yet another battle between the mankind and the nature, the society and the individual, and many more comparables you could make to such struggles that our ancestors, whether foreign or Quebecois, struggled to break for decades if not centuries.

Still, all things dry and far were to end at some point, and it was around 15:00 that the Calanian Mountaineer reached Endborough, where we were to have an overnight stop. Since the State Museum was close to the end of its business hours by the end of the day, what usually happened instead was that the nights were used to either watch an Endborough Gold Sox Game or to take part in ferry rides along the White and Belle Haven Rivers, a sight widely popularised by a Quebecois film made in mid-80s, whose title I no longer recall. Then there would be enough time spent back in the hotel rooms, before we went to sleep and boarded, at eleven in the following day, the Endboroughian which dropped us around Village-des-Pins station at Red Deer Lake, one of the two largest lakes found in the Endover state.

-----

As I have mentioned before, the Quebecois Villages of old were still the same ole as they were just a few decades ago when the Vdaran royals frequented it more than how they do now. The summer shrubs and the wild berries draped the trees on the quiet country walkpath that led into the Limassol Cottage. Hotel Sylvain IV had its final summer run before it was to go under a three-year renovation. The Brigadier-General Suite at 7th floor of Hotel Rivard has seen a fairly unimpressive list of occupants, before Kim Gye-Sung, the 11th Duke of Navarre, made his own visit to the Lake District five years ago, to discuss an intimate matter of concern with a notorious band of high class socialites.

On the Gwangmoo Pier, located in middle of the Promenades and Beaches that every visitor recall due to different sets of reasons, you’d recall how agile the young children (myself included, though I was very much the opposite) were as they tried to outrace the young parents who’d carry their strollers along the walkways, and not to mention the occasional middle-agers whom were just having their own time looking at the sunrise, sunset or even a no-luck fishing opportunity.

The rich pine and oak trees of the forests, somewhat different from the breeds than the ones native to Quebec, and the birds spoke in different tongues and wore different badges of honour. The latest country hits, originating from afternoon programs that National Radio Corporation’s Endborough Station at 103.0 would play, had kept the northerners feel at home and was still a noticeable feature when I heard from those of the younger generations who spend their summers instead.

Along occasional plots to farther sides of the beaches of this district, various seaside fields and mounds gave the teenagers and youngsters enough time and distraction away from their parents, who had their own ways of enjoying the summer vacation. Among our travelling entourage that was particularly evident. I was usually playing baseball with my ‘brother’ Myeong-Shin, who never came short from displaying his athleticism that made him a highly-coveted shortstop and linebacker from as early as grade six.

Of course, we all know how his circumstances have led into odd ways- the famous sayings were that he, who grew up watching his idols of Tigers’ minor affiliate, Cornwall Tigers, just down the road from his home, thought he was going to play for Cornwall CVI one of the most prestigious public high schools in country better known for academics and minor sports athletes (my cousins, who got the Kenna blood in them, for example), and then just play for his parents’ alma mater, Queen’s College. Life, however, got into the way when Dr. Heo accepted the professorship and moved to Mississauga, where he enrolled into Songjeong Middle School. There he too continued to excel, being known for pitching 88 miles/average his grade eight year in a match eight months from now, and offers followed. After much persuasion and of course, the advantage of playing in a Midtown school just 15 minutes away from both the Skydome and the Mudeung Field, he eventually went to Erskine Collegiate in fall of 2034, an academic school known for baseball and hockey but not really on football. After that, we know the rest of his heroics, so I’ll spare y’all from that. You guys already watch QBO enough times anyway, and he’ll be playing for World Baseball Classic this January anyway.

Anyways, so Myeong-Shin, out of his love and also nudges, naturally brought me to the field, long after failing to bring Myeong-Yoon or my cousins there. Of course, it wasn’t an easy journey nor an idea. Since I was the youngest kid there, naturally I was placed to play the painful position in catcher. Of course, little did I know that would help me as I became adept at the position and continued playing at high school and then college. Funny how life turns out.

Besides that, the usual happened. Men wore swim trunks that were either too generically black or white, or excessively colourful enough to belong in a flower expo; ladies had their own choices of what they had wanted to wear, whether it be swimsuits, beach clothes or bathgowns that remind myself of this tune. At a remarkable pace did they move, and so did occasional boats that would depart either at dawn or late-afternoon to go fishing or windsurfing.

Taking advantage of those demands and the happy-goers were the vendors, who found these summer employment opportunities quite profitable for good reasons. They, in occasional stalls that we have all frequented before with limited pocket money, tried to convince- with a matter of chance- to try their ice creams, cotton candies or other sweet equivalentes. Sometimes they were successful, other times they weren’t.

The process of dancing and singing took part on the sands of the beach. Occasional musicians, who either rented a vacation spot on timeshare, were there with their families of bandmates to help the kids and adults enjoy a quiet summer abroad while under homely comfort. Occasional baigneur, while drunk or high, would wander around while listening to the guitar or flute tunes, and would occasionally try to jump into the water. This, of course, would usually be stopped by their friends and family members, but an occasional miss would lead into drownings that caused pain more often than not.

Somewhere, around same time, you would bump into an occasional cabin where piano or some rare instrument (Harp? Traditional Korean-Quebecois ones? I do not recall exactly) would be played into the night. If you were a newcomer to the Red Deer Lake District you’d get surprised by it, but after few years, you would just nod along with moving heads. Cottage cabins smelling of wood and the salt coming from the bathing suits, the occasional wanderer or frequenter would notice the elements lifting onto a different kind of curiosity. That, frankly, would lead into all sorts of questionable conducts by those senior to myself at the time, and eventually myself once grew older to be like Myeong-Shin or my Lundrigan cousins. Of course, many regrets were made and tears shed, but that's just something all to natural of a summer.

In most other sports, Sarzonia and Poafmersia are complete strangers. In football, the senior Sarzonian national team have only faced each other once, in a friendly after the Stars qualified for the most recent World Cup.

In the Sporting World Cup, however, Sarzonia and Poafmersia may well develop into a rivalry. The Baby Stars needed penalties after 120 minutes of football failed to separate the two teams. Sarzonia survived the battle and finished just shy of the podium with a defeat against group groupmates HUElavia in the third place playoff.

Manager Diogo Avarel dismissed suggestions that Sarzonia and Poafmersia were already rivals, saying that they only had the one previous encounter. However, he acknowledged that the prospects that the teams would form a rivalry after they play each other a second time in the knockout rounds.

"Rivalries are most often formed by teams playing each other often when the stakes are high," he said. "One match is one match, but two matches where it's win or go home can definitely help forge a rivalry."

The fact that the Baby Stars are here is a matter of luck or focus, depending on whom you ask. With Sarzonia languishing on a record of 1-2-1 and five points in the Group B table, they faced two of the three worst teams in Group B, beating both Jeckland and Jovannic 4-0 in back to back results that propelled Sarzonia into second place in the group.

Even though the Stars struggled to a 2-2 draw against Chromatika whilst playing a more defence-minded 4-4-2 formation with Ben DiSoto and Von Page in the starting 11, the lineup found its rhythm in the next two matches.

Even though Kenny DiSoto wasn't one of the players who earned the promotion to the starting 11, he said he was "thrilled" that his blood brother Ben and his honorary sibling Page were both starting.

"Absolutely, I'm so chuffed for both of them," he said. "Would I love to start? Absolutely, but if I can't, then I hope they both do amazing."

Team Rallied Around Garrett,
by Kaitlyn Scoville, Concord Heights Times

As the team prepares for a knockout game against Free Republics, their minds are still centered on the condition of forward Steffie Garrett, who has not returned to play since sustaining a concussion over the ruthless act of Jaïr Iscla. To this day, no one on the nation of Tequilo has showed an interest in her condition, and in fact a publication with an excessive amount of “L’s” in its name (standing for losers off the pitch even if the team might be good on it), has been mocking Garrett. One productive thing that we did get them to do was to realize that they were calling their own football association the wrong thing. When the Concord Heights Times referenced it in a previous article, we called it the UFT, because that is what they had written in their roster handout that is given to all media sources. Upon seeing us reference it as it was named in that handout, they changed all notifications of UFT to UPT and then had the nerve to say we didn’t know what we were talking about instead of acknowledging their error. As days go by the “Loser” publication continues to show its incompetence.

Steffie Garrett is not going to return to play in the Sporting World Cup, but there is optimism that she will be able to play professional soccer once again. The hospitality provided by the medical staff in Endborough has been phenomenal. Garrett has remained in that city to avoid traveling around Baker Park with the rest of the team, but is constant contact with them. Garrett has not been cleared for a plane ride home back to Cassadaigua, but that is expected to occur in the coming days. Her mother, Marianne, had nothing but great things to say about the hospital staff in Endborough, “The care that she has received here is terrific. The doctors have placed her on a regimented plan to where she should be able to recover and we hope get back to playing soccer. Overall, the people here have been very sympathetic to her situation, and I could not be any more grateful for that.” Mrs. Garrett had no comment on whether or not she will go forward with plans to pursue criminal or civil charges on Iscla, or seek financial damages from the UPT. All she did say was, “It’s not over.”

In a tough group, the rest of the team eventually were able to get focused on the games at hand. During practices, the team has been wearing black shirts with “We’re doing it for Steffie” on the front and #steffiestrong on the back. Allison Rice and Kristie Frase have tied for the team lead in goals, with three apiece, as overall the scoring on the team is balanced while lacking the headliner that Garrett would have been. Defensively, the team has been great, and Cynthia Kerr has been good in goal. Free Republics is a tough foe, we all know that. They started this competition, after all. Hopefully, they find a way to pull it off.

The Megistian Side has announced it's formation for the RO16, with different formations for each team (Sylestone and Xanneria)

If The Megistian U-18 has to face Sylestone:

Robertson
Jordi Frett
Lukovic-----Howard-----Jorgenson-----Cringan
Kellingrad----------Callimolo----Fri----------Willams
Becks

So with the Megistos vs. Sylestone scenario, the coach had opted for a 4-5-1, with Frett on free roam and him on a slightly attacking mode. Fri would be going on, with Jackson on the bench. Megistos will have a +1.15 style mod if this happens.

If the Megistian U-18 has to face Xanneria:

Robertson
Lukovic-----Jordi Frett-----Cringan
Howard-----Jorgenson
Kellingrad----------Callimolo----Fri----------Willams
Becks

In the Megistos vs. Xanneria scenario, Megistos will play a 4-2-3-1, with Cringan and Lukovic turning into a RAM and LAM respectivly. Megistos will have a +2.15 style mod if this happens.

A Meeting Of Brothers

Damien Becks didn't become a goalkeeper just because he wanted to, he did, but some of it came to credit of his brother, the starter goalkeeper for the U-21 side in The Forty-Eighth Di Bradini Cup, Alfie-James Becks.

"Dude! The Megistian U-18 side is in the Round Of 16!" Damien said. He was a 18 year old man, meaning that he could also play in the U-21 team. Unfortunately, he was in the reserves, as the Megistian U-18 coach wanted him for the SWC. However, he could still play in the Di Bradini Cup, because the DBC happened later than the SWC.

"Cool. I heard. How did you allow Abahnfleft to score against you twice and win the game?" Alfie asked. He was 20 years old, so it wasn't like he was much better."

"C'mon man! I already told you on the phone! All we needed to do is win one of the last two games and we were secured! Plus, coach didn't change any tactics! The formation gets defeated against their formation."

"Ugh, you've got a point." Alfie-James said. He liked teasing his brother.

"Hah. Yeah, I've got one. Don't complain. Megistos got 1st in the group in our first try!" Dame said.

"So, what's coach's formation for the U-21, Alfie-James?" Their mom, Elizabeth, asked.

"Don't call me that, it's Alfie. Oh, it's a 3-5-1-1. He said we could make more crosses, and when everyone would be guarding Lawerence we can pass it to Loki who can score." Alfie said.

"Nice, he's smart. Anyway, what are we having? I'm hungry." Damien asked. He still didn't know how to cook food.

"Salad. We can't let you have any junk food." Alfie said.

"Aw man! You act like your my older brother!" Damien exclaimed.

"I am." Was Alfie's reply.

"I've got nothing to oppose. Dang it, you win." Dame said.

"Yesss!" Alfie pumped his fist into the air.

"Hey, Alfie, you need goalie gloves." Elizabeth said.

"Dang. We'll get them tommorow." Alf said. His old ones had ripped apart at training. He was planning to get a Open'r Fingersave. Open'r was Alfie's favorite brand.

"Kay. From what I heard in the Styx Golazo Daily and other news, your coach kept on changing the formations." Alf started.

"Yep. I don't know why, but we win, that's all that matters." Dame replied. At hearing this, Alfie-James snickered.

"What?" Was Dame's oblivious reply.

Alfie snickered again. "You'll see, you'll see. For now, win the Round Of 16."

"Yep. That's my Number 1 goal." Dame replied. He was used to replying fast, you needed to on the pitch, and that was needed within Lazpo United. However, Lazpo were actually willing to sell Dame, he was on the transfer market, with Dame looking to play in a foreign league.

"Nah, it's to win." Alfie said and snickered. He obviously wanted Megistos to bring the trophy home.

"Done!" Alfie and Dame and Elizabeth said at the same time. They were done with their food. Dame would have to take to the car back to Baker Park. The family meeting was over

U18 WC: ERAMAN DREW 3-3 WITH ABANHFLEFT

South End, Baker Park: The desire of Eraman to complete Group F of the Under 18 World Championship at the top was destroyed after a 3-3 draw with Abanhfleft. In the action at the Old College Park, Southend, fate was not in favor of Eraman even though the Young Falcon was leading until the 80th minute.

Early in the first half, Eraman was seen comfortable controlling the game when attack after attack was launched through the combination of Faiz Johnson and Dewa Budiman.

However, Abanhfleft was the first team to settled into the match and had the opportunity to test Eraman's goal several times until they got a corner kick in the 20th minute. The curtain was finally opened by Abanhfleft through midfielder Josh Dustin after shooting the ball from outside the penalty box as a result of a corner kick taken by Arden Keeble.

Shocked by the goal, Eraman finally managed to equalize in the 28th minute after Adiwarna Agung long shot was failed to be saved by the goalkeeper.

Eraman didn't wait long to add another goal as a result of individual movement by the Royal Daulapura promising striker, Faiz Johnson in the 31st minute.

Eraman's third goal was completed by Timur Beladau in the first minute of additional time thus putting the Young Falcon in a comfortable position before the end of the first half of the match.

Eraman's dominance was disrupted in the second half. Abanhfleft appeared to up their game a level and as a result got their second goal in the 64th minute when striker, Shane Alli's shot hit the back of the net with a cool finish to beat Arjuna Kesuma.

Abanhfleft then completed the come back when Arden Keeble scored from a free kick in the 80th minute.

Eraman had a chance to add a fourth goal when they were awarded a penalty kick in the 88th minute but failed to be completed by Faiz Johnson.

The result means Eraman finished third behind Megistos and Darmen in the Group F of the Under 18 World Championship and qualified to the next round but will have to play in the playoff. Waiting for Eraman in the Playoff Round is Chromatika who finished 4th in Group B.

The good news? The offense of the Chromatik U-18 team is clicking on all cylinders. With seventeen goals scored in six games, they tied for most goals scored in the Group Stage with Siovanija and Teusland. The bad news? They've also conceded thirteen, and all the goals that were scored only led to a record of 2-3-1, nine points, and fourth place finish that leads them to a do-or-die match against Eramen in the playoffs.

Whitney Elliott, Han Killian, and Ippro Onni have proven their worth. Van Enax, Grayson Fillar, and Nye Moon have not. Thankfully, it is only the U-18s, and these players will have ample time to grow before facing the music in a grander stage. That being said, if this team is thinking to go further, Myung's crew must get their act together in terms of flow.

The grander question of the tournament has been this: is the U-18s of domestic clubs better? Or are players from high schools better?

Of the Starting XI, five are from U-18s and six are from high schools. As all three of the ones that make up the offense are from high schools, the high schoolers have a lead; that being said, it may just be those specific players and definitely needs to be studied further.

Can Elliott, Killian, and Onni lead the young Chromatiks to the next round?

Hopal to face Siovanija & Teusland in the Playoff Round
Hopal will face Siovanija & Teusland in the Playoff Round. Siovanija & Teusland is the more experienced and prestigious team while Hopal is the newer team this being their first U-18 tournament. Hopal is considered to be the underdog while Siovanija & Teusland is the favourite, but sometimes it's better to be the underdog and fans are hoping that Hopal will come out victorious. The winner of this match will face another prestigious and successful team Springmont, Hopal surely has quite the uphill battle ahead of them.

Sylestone to play Xanneria

Postby Sylestone » Sat Jul 18, 2020 4:43 pm

The Minipliances have win their final two games against Equestria and Greater Vakolicci to take out third spot in Group A, behind Baker Park and Kohnhead and ahead of Hopal. They now face Xanneria in the playoff round, with the winner to play Megistos in the round of 16.
Sylestone probably have the advantage, having won their past two games, in stark contrast to Xanneria. However, as the fork said, “Every side from here on in will be tough, and we have to treat them so.”
However, the Minipliances know that they can win the game, but expect Megistos to be on a completely new level. We shall wait and see.

We’ve made it!

Following a 2-2 draw with Chromatika, Vdara were playing against Jeckland, who were yet to record a win in any of their previous games. This was good knees for the Young Magicians, who needed a win to get into the next stage of the Sporting World Cup. With Moustakakos managing his team well so far, could Vdara win this matchup and go through? Find out now!

And now, live coverage on Vai Sports!

Iosip: ”Hello to all who have just tuned in! You’re watching Vdara vs Jeckland live from Princess Helena Sports Park in Baker Park! This matchup will be a seemingly easy one for Vdara, who have only lost one match in their last six. Now, without further ado, the lineups!”

Lineups Song

”Starting from the rear, we have Zaharias Frangoglou in goals, with centrebacks Anargyros Zerveas, Trifonas Tolakis, and Stamatios Christakos lining up in front of the tall shot stopper. In front of them, we have Akakios Demotis and Lambros Tantalopoulos, who have performed extremely well in recent games with the Young Magicians. Ahead of those two are the whopping five attackers in this squad, and starting from the left we have Alkiviadis Manolakis and Themistoklis Muleas, who have been lightning quick on the left side of the attacking force as of late. Andrianos Petras, who has been fantastic at scoring in recent games alongside Mathaios Makrotsis, who has been assisting Petras most of the time. Last but not least we have Manousos Scafididis, who has been both quick and impressive in these past few games. All in all, a strong lineup from Vdara, but will it help them against this relatively weak Jeckland side? Kickoff is getting ever closer by the second, and the teams are going into the pitch now, so it does appear that we’ll find out soon.”

The match report is as follows:

1: The whistle has been blown, and it’s go, go, go!
4: Petras has the ball, and he’s blitzing past the Jeckish defenders! With a hop, skip, and a jump into the box, Petras takes a shot... which ends up straight into the top left corner! It’s 1-0! What a great start from Petras, and what a spirit lifter for Vdara! The players will surely be bursting with confidence out there now!
10: Demotis has the ball in the middle of the park, and he’s going to try and take it forward. With the Jeckish midfielder approaching, Demotis flicks it to his left where Alkiviadis Manolakis is waiting. He makes a lovely run in the left side, and Makrotsis is waiting in the middle. Manolakis cuts inside, hits in the cross towards Makrotsis... who scores with a wonderful volley! It’s a top tier performance from Vdara, who seem to be running away with this match so early on! What a goal!
26: Since those two early goals, the game has stagnated. Vdara have been keeping possession of the ball very well, to the dismay of the Jeckish players who would actually quite like to touch the ball instead of watching the Vdarans play ping-pong with it.
38: One of the Jeckish attackers has grabbed hold of the ball here, and he’s gonna go forward with it. He’s skipped past Tolakis, left Zerveas for dead, taken a shot... which hits the post and ricochets away from the goal! Oh dear, that might have been one of Jeckland’s only chances to get back into this match.
45: It’s halftime in Baker Park, as Vdara lead 2-0. It’s a great performance from them so far, as they came into this game aiming for a victory, and a good one at that.

It was a short team talk from Moustakakos today, as he gave the players a short ”keep it up, you’re doing great”-esque talk, with the players seemingly motivated to continue scoring in this match.

46: Well, the game is back underway, and Vdara are still ahead. Can Jeckland recover from this early deficit?
58: Muleas is making a lovely run down the left hand side, as he cuts inside past one of the Jeckish defenders. He does a roulette past another, flicks the ball up and takes the shot... which hits off of the underside of the crossbar and goes into the net! Wonderful, fantastic, and awesome are three words to describe that goal that we’ve just seen, that was a great move and goal from Muleas just there!
67: Jeckland are back on the attack here, as one of their attackers have made it past the midfield. They’re still going, and they’re going with immense speed, to the dismay of the defenders. They’ve been skipped past, and the Jeckish attacker has scored! That’s 3-1, could there be a comeback?
76: Petras going for his second goal of the game here, and he might be able to take the shot from long range, which he does... and it pays off! The scoreline ticks over to 4-1, which is a fantastic result for the Young Magicians if it stands like this!
90: It’s game over here at the Princess Helena Sports Park, as Vdara have clinched victory with ease! Jeckish fans will be disappointed, as they finish bottom of the group.

In the dressing room, Moustakakos had a few more words to say.

”Lads... I’m sorry to have to tell you this so soon after your wonderful victory, but we’re playing Starblaydia. I hope you’ve got your big boy boots on, because this game will be tough. I do assure you that we can win that game, as we’re a great side with determination and... ugh, who am I kidding. You might as well pack your bags tonight, I don’t think we’re getting past those guys.”

As you can tell, Moustakakos wasn’t confident about this upcoming match in the slightest. Bodes well for Vdara, doesn’t it?
Come for the weather. Stay for the fitba. Leave for somewhere prettier.

Is This Article's Title The Name Of A Error 458-No Nation Found Player?
By Jean-Antoine Granchier

With a draw against Savojarna and a hard fought victory against Lovisa, Oberour Ar Moro did enough to finish third in Group D. Their reward? A playoff round match-up against Error 458-No Nation Found (actually a nation, not some kind of computer glitch...I think). Just over the horizon from there is Terre Septentrionale, the U-18 World Cup's best team by points, waiting for the winner in Southend.

To enter that horizon Celestin Ebrard l'Aisné, Maeldoi qui Brodele, and Ernand Gringnart will come face-to-face with Error 458-No Nation Found's backup goalkeeper Will The Fans In the Stands Please Remove Their Clothes, defender I Am The Worst Announcer The World Has Ever Seen, and forward I'm The Captain, who is not in fact the team's captain, that's I Have Placed Bombs Throughout the Stadium and Will Detonate Them Shortly.

The official roster for Error 458-No Nation Found also did not give their players any numbers, so one must refer to them by their given names, or more likely when one's mouth starts to get dry, their position on the pitch. Error 458-No Nation Found play with a aggressive offensive style, much like Oberour Ar Moro. One of their backups is forward The Game Is Over. The Final Score is Error 458-No Nation Found Victorious 58 Goals to Nil. One can hope Oberour Ar Moro can put some goals on the board and keep that scoreline leaning more towards to the Dragoons.

Poafmersia 2-0 Northern Sovereign Islands

Poafmersian goalscorers: Lovell Fiedler 65'; Jordan Huerta 78'

Starting 11: Jarvis Cuyper; Dhaval Contreras, Demyan Lyon, Morris Marsden, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Rodolfo Middleton; Jordan Huerta (c), Lovell Fiedler
Substitutes: None

Poafmersia 1-3 Siovanija and Teusland

Poafmersian goalscorers: Bridgett Elliot 65'

Starting 11: Jarvis Cuyper; Dhaval Contreras, Demyan Lyon, Morris Marsden, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Rodolfo Middleton; Jordan Huerta (c), Bridgett Elliott
Substitutes: Sadeq Rooijakkers (Contreras 45'); Ali Berger (Marsden 61'); Aleksander Caldwell (Villaverde 68')

Two really different results, but they all indicated something - that Poafmersia's backline needs some more experimentation.
Against Northern Sovereign Islands, there was no challenge, since the opposition was not as strong and the players handled the match really easily. Against Siovanija and Teusland, alarm bells started ringing as Nelson Sanchez had to make 3 substitutions in order to prevent a 4th goal from the opposition. Poafmersia fell 3-0 within 45 minutes against Siovanija and Teusland, which led to an immediate substitution. Although Elliot got Poafmersia one goal back, it proved too little and too late.

For Nelson Sanchez, the result was something worth reflecting about. Speaking to reporters after the Playoff round fixtures was announced, he pointed out the importance of fixing the backline ahead of the key match against Sarzonia. "It really set the team back, that loss (against S&T). I might try a different backline combination, but we are in the knockout stages and every mistake will cost. We are drawn against Sarzonia once again, which is particularly interesting considering that we met 2 years ago in our first match in the knockout stages for the previous Sporting World Cup. This time round, it is exactly the same since both of us have to play in the playoff rounds. Hopefully we can fix some defense issues and get a nicer result in the Playoff Round."
Sanchez confirmed that Jarvis Cuyper will remain in goal despite the performance against Siovanija and Teusland, and a backline swop is likely to be the only few changes made.

Starting 11 against Sarzonia: Jarvis Cuyper; Sadeq Rooijakkers, Ali Berger, Demyan Lyon, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Rodolfo Middleton; Jordan Huerta (c), Bridgett Elliott

we have yet again changed the tactics to:

Roberston
Lukovic----------Frett----------Cringan
Jorgenson-----Howard

This formation is a 4-2-3-1, with the style mod of +1.75. The Megistian board is looking forward to the match, with a coach that experiments.

Poafmersia 1
Lovell Fiedler 81'
Sarzonia 0

Starting 11: Jarvis Cuyper; Sadeq Rooijakkers, Ali Berger, Demyan Lyon, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Rodolfo Middleton; Jordan Huerta (c), Bridgett Elliott

Substitutes: Eurig Popa (Villaverde 54'); Hassan Stevenson (Huerta 62'); Lovell Fiedler (Elliott 70')

Unbelivable.
It was substitute Lovell Fiedler that got hold of Poafmersia's one and only goal against Sarzonia, allowing the Young Panjias to steal a 1-0 win to set-up a Round of 16 match against Tequilo.
To Nelson Sanchez, he never expected Fiedler to get that goal to break Sarzonia. When Huerta wasn't doing as well as he should, Sanchez put on Hassan Stevenson in replacement, with Middleton getting the captain's armband. Then Lovell Fiedler suffered a concussion, which forced Sanchez to put on a third substitution with Fiedler. At that point in time, Sanchez was just praying. "Oh please don't concede a goal. Get me to extra time if you want, I don't really care anymore," he muttered.
Thankfully, Sarzonia isn't the most attacking side you would have. The 4000+ Poafmers sitting in the stands watched the defence nullify those attempts Sarzonia had on goal, and thankfully Berger and Lyon worked well in central midfield. Rooijakkers could grab the ball from club teammate Lyon and make a push forward on the left side, while Kaloyanov frequently ventured forward to irritate the opposition defence. Then came the 81st minute. Having been surrounded by 2 Sarzonia players, Leonora made a shot forward blindly, hoping to clear the ball as far as possible. Having seen the trajectory of the ball, Fiedler ran into space to catch the ball, and promptly directed the ball towards goal...into the back of the net. The fans jumped and cheered. After opening his personal account for the national team against Northern Sovereign Islands, Fiedler found his 2nd goal here in such an important time. Nelson Sanchez fist-pumped the air. The remainder of the 9 minutes and stoppage time was just time wasting time for the players, which was something that they are good at. Playing out the remainder of the time, the whistle blown, and Poafmersia became one of 2 teams that won their Playoff Round fixture (the other being Eraman, who trashed Chromatika 7-3).
Nelson Sanchez saw nothing wrong but to start Fiedler against Tequilo. Having shone during his appearance against Northern Sovereign Islands, and during his cameo here against Sarzonia, Fiedler certainly deserves a start. Poafmersia will attempt to break the Round of 16 by defeating Tequilo. The opposition are no pushovers - they came out of a group containing Cassadaigua, Starblydia, Krytenia, HUElavia, Sharktail and Mavinet as group champions, holding a 4-1-1 record. A detailed look at that group would tell you that it is a difficult group to navigate - Starblaydia, and Cassadaigua are nations strong in football, who have had strong senior teams that made it into the World Cup. HUElavia is an up and rising nation in the footballing world, having entered the past 2 editions of the World Cup. Mavinet are the bronze medallists from DBC 47 - that shows that they are good in developing young players. Then there is Sharktail and Krytenia, who have decent results in the recent World Cup qualifiers. Regardless, Poafmersia would enjoy the next match against Tequilo, hoping to grab an upset.

Starting 11 against Tequilo: Jarvis Cuyper; Sadeq Rooijakkers, Demyan Lyon, Ali Berger, Zak Kaloyanov; Plamen Naoumov; Leonora Hall, Vasilis Villaverde; Rodolfo Middleton (c); Hassan Stevenson, Lovell Fiedler

TAPALUPÉ, Tequilo - We are back after a brief hiatus! Overwhelmed by the media barrage? Want something a little lighter? Let the GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!! Daily take the strain - all your favourite bits, in brief.

First order of the day, let’s fire up the Copametro and find out how Los Pitxileros Juniors did in the Under-18 World Cup, which apparently, is no longer the Sporting World Cup. As Jaïr Iscla has been finding out.

Image
EDGING THROUGH WITH THE HATERS ON OUR TAILS

Sharktail 2-1 TEQUILO
TEQUILO 3-1 HUElavia
Starblaydia 1-1 TEQUILO

Tequilo just about took the group despite coming close to throwing it all away when complacency set in; but with the furious cheerleaders of Cassadaigua breathing down our necks in quite unnecessary fashion, the Agave-Blues held on to edge through to the knockout rounds, impressively going toe-to-toe with a group of strong footballing nations to offer some promise for the future. A mixed second half of qualifying started with a slapdash defeat against Sharktail, took in a stylish win over the himpressive HUElavians, and slugged out a sporting stramash with Starblaydia - no diving dramatics here, no moaning mindgames, no xenophobic… um… tantrums? …just two solid football teams having a go and getting on with it. And in the end, it was just enough to get through. Bravo Agave-Blues!

Player focus: Jaïr Iscla The flamboyant young winger from Urzagui in Puezan State has had quite a competition already, and though it didn’t start the way any of us expected, there is no-one at his home-town club of Peru Urzagui that will be surprised with the impression he has made once he’s been allowed to get the ball at his feet. Subjected to astonishing abuse before he had even touched a ball and drawn into a rash retaliation that saw him miss 86 minutes of the first game and serve a ban for the second and third, he certainly had a lot of making up for lost time when he returned for the final three games of the group - and that started out with a poor defeat to Sharktail. But the lad has grown into this tournament, let his football do the talking, ignored the haters, and is showing some impressive style as the team approach the elimination phase. Whether the team get any further in the competition, one thing is for certain - Jaïr Iscla is the story of the tournament for Tequilo, just like we predicted. Although not in the way we predicted. Not even.

Starting Line-Up for TEQUILO vs. Poafmersia:
4-1-3-2: Caldas | Bertendona, Sotolongo, Abril, Seco (Capitan) | Toledo | Jaïr Iscla, Çenturion, Tsttnauayui | Vale & Zabalaemeldi

VENUE: Hillsborough Stadium, Belle Haven

GRANDPARENTS FOR GOALPOSTS
Our Nostalgia Column With Retired Footballer Haizinto

When I was young,
we didn’t have shinpads,
labels or signing on fees,
we had to use grandparents for goalposts
and stray dogs for referees.1

Was pitxi ever enjoyable on a cold wet Tuesday evening in Calzacon? Famous former journeyman pitxilero - that’s ‘footballer’ to you and me - Haizinto recalls his apprenticeship at Escandinavos.

Although I started my professional training at Aguaprofunda, I finished it at Escandinavos in the same town, my home town of Santa Clares. My best friend Hérnan de la Pradera and I got signed from Las Aguas youth team but we ended up going in very different directions, although the realisation that we were going our separate ways was somewhat embarrassing. Hérnan was going great guns up front in the reserves, averaging more than a goal a game, but I had gone a little off the boil since coach Aguinaldo confiscated Señor Bola, my lucky shrunken capybara head, and threw it away with the trash. I just lost my form, and I should’ve realised when Hérnan came rushing round to my house and called up to my window to tell me he had been invited for a trial at Pelotón, the top team in the city and one of the state giants. Perhaps because Hérnan and I had done everything together since the age of five, had been everywhere together, I just assumed he meant ‘we’ when he said he was going to Pelotón. “When?!” I called from the window, barely containing my excitement. “Right now!” he yelled back.

I charged downstairs making a terrible racket, running through the house collecting together my training gear, my boots, my water bottle; creating a thrill of excitement in the house as I yammered on about our trial at Pelotón. I was just explaining to my father that one day I would wear the famous lime green shirt of the team we both supported as I left the house, and Hérnan realised straightaway that I had got the wrong end of the stick. As I bounded up to him, I recall his face was a picture of discomfort. “Err, Haize,” he said, awkwardly - “not you… just me.”

I took a while to sink in. I slunk back to my room, reflecting on how, yes, Hérnan was so much better than me now, and I was doing pretty badly at Las Aguas, hardly getting a game for the reserves now. How stupid of me.

A week later, I was released; and ended up dropping down a division to finish my apprenticeship at Escandinavos, the worst team in Santa Clares. Never had I missed lucky Señor Bola more. Nor Hérnan, for that matter.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
The Issues That Are Really Earthing Your Conductors Right Now

Regular reader Rubèn Curto from Chanco Cóndor seems to be worried about our whereabouts, wondering: Where the hell have you been for the last two matchdays? I rely on the Daily for all my pitxi news and coverage of the no longer Sporting World Cup! I mean, you aren’t exactly a daily if you don’t print daily, are you?

It’s an interesting technical point, Rubèn, and hard to be sure when there is so much fluid time in the atmosphere. But we take your underlying point and will try to publish more frequently. Which will probably please Dídac Franco of Santa Léa, Tapalupé, who chimes in with: I recently pretended to fall off a scaffold so I could have a few days off work, and accidentally broke my ankle for real. Usually when I am faking injury I rely on the Daily to keep my mind occupied during the long waits in Accident & Emergency, so you can imagine how much I missed you when I really needed you the most. Anyway, I was wondering, has anyone else out there ever actually injured themselves for real when attempting to fake injury?2 I feel really stupid.

A bizarre confession Dídac, thanks for that - probably don’t talk about it so much and the feeling of stupid will dissipate. Talking of dissipation, we have more García spotters! The whole nation is keeping an eye and an ear out for sightings of the missing goalkeeper, and Cueto Costello has a corker for us. He writes: El Alas de Pollo is pulling our chickenlegs when they claim to know García had a lobotomy at Lady Casserola’s [Last week’s letters - Ed.] - I know for a fact even he wouldn’t be mad enough to go there. No, I was reading on the internet last week [oh come on! Really?! - Ed.] that he’s been erecting telegraph poles for the Audioslav government, and pulling triple time with expenses, because they’ve got some kind of new system to saturate our mental inboxes with TG messages. Morse mind control! They are paying foreigners to do their dirty work for them, the rotten c*ds.(parental advisory)

Zombie TGs, Cueto? Whatever next? Well, TG us to let us know.3

POSTCARDS FROM THE MULTIVERSE
Poafmersia

We sent six random citizens out into the world to find out about some of the countries we’ve heard of but never visited before; we gave them airline tickets, a pen and some loose change, and asked them to send us a postcard. Here’s one that arrived today!

I.C. writes from a root vegetable farm, somewhere in Poafmersia: Dear Editor, I will apologise for the tattie state of this postcard, yam sorry to say I have been mashed most of the time I have been here. I won’t waffle on, just to say thanks for chipping in on the expenses, must’ve cost a wedge. Weather’s crisp. I.C.

NEXT TIME
What’s Up In The Next Issue of GOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-a!!!

Coming soon - “Haters gonna hate” - Jaïr Iscla surprisingly unfazed by abuse, in our exclusive interview. Plus - can the Pitxileros Juniors progress in the under-18 World Cup; and was the game easier to play in woollen sweaters, ankle-length trousers and hob-nail boots?

Kohnhead to face Krytenia in round of 16, will the curse continue?

Image

After finishing second in Group A to Baker Park, Kohnhead was the top second placed team and so thus got a bye in the round of 32, as Krytenia defeated Darmen in extra time to become our round of 16 opponent. The question in this game is will a Kohnhead team finally get past a round of 16. Let's go over all Kohnhead sports teams in the round of 16, and how they fared.

Volleyball World Expo 9

Torisakia 25 25 19 25
Kohnhead 18 21 25 13

In this round of 16 matchup, Kohnhead lost to Torisakia in four games. Despite not being the favorites, and no one knowing about the curse yet this was the first of many times the round of 16 curse would strike Kohnhead.

Baptism of Fire 72

Kohnhead 1–1 The Grearish Union (1–2 AET)

In our football teams Baptism of Fire we got all the way to the round of 16 before suffering an extremely close 2-1 loss in extra time to The Grearish Union. At this point no one was really thinking about a curse but none the less it struck again.

Quidditch World Cup 10

Salkin Rock 1070–740 Kohnhead

Yet another round of 16 loss for Kohnhead this time to Salkin Rock in Quidditch by a lot of points. By this point people in Kohnhead were starting to notice that hey why can't we get past a RO16.

World Lacrosse Championships 34

HUElavia 9–9 Kohnhead (11–10 OT)

Taking on the eventual champs of the tournament, Kohnhead and HUElavia dueled each other in a very close match up which ultimately left HUElavia with the win in OT. By this point the curse was full blown, and Kohnheadians were nervously wondering is the only way Kohnhead can win anything is if there is no round of 16?

Cup of Harmony 77

Kohnhead 2–3 Kandorith

Once again our football team managed an extremely close loss in the RO16. This one stung the most as football is the most popular sport in Kohnhead easily, and this was a game we could have easily won.

So from looking at those 5 games we can see that Kohnhead is 0-5 in games played in the round of 16. While The Tiny Brains have played amazingly well this tournament and are the favorites against Krytenia, will we be able to undo the curse? Please Margaret, let me advance past the round of 16.

Here is the lineup for the extremely important match:

Thank you for your support,
by Steffie Garrett- Forward

These last couple weeks were supposed to be something that dreams are made of. Instead, it has turned into a nightmare. My whole career now is in question, the doctors tell me that I will be able to play again, but that I might just need to take it easy. I don’t know how that even happens on a soccer pitch. It has been suggested that I take some time off, let everything get back to 100%, and then look into getting back out onto the field. For now, that is going to be how I handle it. I don’t know what is going to happen now, and what will happen in the CSL (Cassadagan Soccer League) draft. Right now, that is the furthest thing on my mind. In a moment like this, you realize who are your friends, and who are your enemies.

My great friends are all of my teammates, who have been there for me and who are trying to do everything they can in the Sporting World Cup. They have visited me when I was in the hospital, and we still do frequent video chats as I remain in a hotel room in Endborough. It has been suggested, and my family has agreed that it is best for me to not travel with the team as the experience the different venues throughout Baker Park. The people in Endborough have also been my friends. The medical staff that has helped me have been ever so kind, and I have been able to go out and take in some of the sights while I am here. We were even invited to take a tour of the campus at the University of Endover while we are here. That was pretty cool for me, since I am contemplating going to college now. (Note: In Cassadaigua, a player of Steffie’s talent at her age normally bypasses collegiate sports to get the big contracts of the CSL as soon as possible. There are exceptions, but this is the route that Steffie was going to take). That’s a whole new world for me, and I was very impressed by this University. If I lived here, I would apply, and if you do live here, or are interested in going to college in Baker Park, I really suggest taking a long look at University of Endover. My mother has teased me, though, that I should apply anyway but I don’t think she would want me going to school overseas. That said, we have been very impressed with Baker Park overall, and it is no surprise that Cassadaigua teamed up with them to host World Cup 84. These people are my friends.

All of the fans that have reached out to me, are also my friends. Thank you very much, I will make sure I read every card that I get when I am back in Cassadaigua. Players from other countries, especially Mavinet the honorable Baptism of Fire champion, have been completely classy towards me, and I really appreciate that. You can really learn who the class act nations are at a time like this.

I am not the first athlete to sustain a serious injury on the field, I know that.
Many have dealt with so much worse then I have. Whenever I have read about these incidents, it seems as though there was something else that was constant: the player who initiated the injury extends some sort of apology or sympathy. I have seen the replays, and I don’t know what was going through Iscla’s head. He couldn’t be that dirty of a player, right? Maybe he would stop by, or try to contact me somehow and tell me what was at least going through his mind. I haven’t heard from him at all. Nothing. Not a damn thing. How can he be that awful of a person? I just, can’t fathom that, and it makes me thing that yes, I was targeted. The play had nothing to do with soccer, therefore. They wanted to take me out. Tequilo’s soccer association has not reached out to me. All they have done over the incident, is fix their media report that called their soccer association the UFT to the UPT after they read a Concord Heights Times article on the topic. I have been mocked with some of the most absurd conspiracy theories made about it. We all know how wacky conspiracy theories can be, especially when a group of people do not want to accept troubling news, otherwise. I don’t even want to acknowledge it, but I will just call it absolutely despicable. I don’t think I have ever hated another team before.

Thank you for your time in reading. Enjoy what you have.

Best Western
By Rami Niblick in Coolville, Baker Park

THERE'S an old Krytenian phrase - "we beat you, you're still better". It perfectly sums up the attitude of our people towards our near-neighbours across the Beck. A phrase born of jealousy, that no matter whether or not we can beat Starblaydia on any given day, they will win out in the end. No matter how many Casaran Jobs, how many cathartic victories there may be, the bottom line is that when it comes to the world's greatest trophy, it's five-nil to the Men in Mauve.

The indications are, though, that things may be about to change. The Under-18 World Cup may not have seen Krytenia set the world on fire, but the Wyverns have dug in when the chips are down, and they've grafted their way into the last sixteen despite losing to Starblaydia. On the East Bank, meanwhile, that victory means nothing, as they're on their way back to Jhanna with their tails between their legs.

The time is nigh to twist the knife. Krytenia are four games away from a historic debut trophy - and next come the young guns from Kohnhead. No Brains team has ever made it past this stage of any competition; it's up to our boys in sky and white to ensure that remains the case. Onward!
"I revel in the nonsense; it's why I'm in Anaia."

Chapter 06

The Cordwell Univ. is working with Springmont Football Association (SFA) to develop a new education and science training programme for young footballer aimed at overseas students, including regional students; the total project investment by SFA is expected to be up to £200 million. This initiative is based on program offered by the Cordwell Univ's Department of Sport, Sport-Science, and Fitness (SSSF), including a Diploma's in Football; the intention is to recruit up to 70 students a year from local and other countries to program which will be delivered in bespoke facilities on its campus.

The new program will be taught by the Cordwell Univ’s staff, and all academic issues, including entrance standards and quality assurance, will rest with the university; SFA will provide investment to develop new facilities and will be responsible for recruiting students. The first cohort of students is expected to enter the diplomas program in September 2021. The new fund will invite bids from industry, academia, and other bodies; it will aim to create international partnerships to build a global cooperation in football and sports arena.
