The 50,000 fans packed into the Greencaster Oval were treated to an exciting match as the deciding match of the Friendship Trophy between Darmen and Ko-oren was played out before them. Ko-oren posted their highest innings total of the series as they got things started, scoring 265 in 48.3 overs, 20 year old Lester Ahern leading the way with his innings of 79. Darmen's pace bowling eventually took its toll on the Greenblues, reducing Ko-oren to its tail end. Gardenar's spin took the final wicket, sneaking past Norman Chapman's bat and into his pads.
From the start, Darmen didn't hold back as they went to work in the middle, openers Vinnie Acker and Sigmund Winter smashing hits to the boundaries any chance they had. Ellar Ready lasted the longest, scoring 81 runs from 77 balls faced. Solomon Marlow, in for the struggling Ionathan Odell, slowed things down for a short period, but the required run rate kept going down anyways. After Gardenar succumbed to a Chapman delivery, wicketkeeper Adalfuns Armbruster came in and smashed three straight fours to win the match.
For Darmen, the victory means their first ever ODI series victory and confidence for the upcoming T20 World Championships. Ellar Ready was excellent with the bat, averaging 175 runs, but even he was outscored by Theudofrid Milligan who scored 177 total. Dorian Myers was the best bowler for Darmen, taking seven total wickets at an average of 22.14.
For Ko-oren, the series loss is their second straight and they'll have questions to answer as they prepare for the T20 World Championships. Lester Ahern's 79 in the last match made him the highest run scorer for the Greenblues, scoring 143 total at an average of 47.67. Bowling-wise, Norman Chapman and Albin Raycraft each took five wickets, Raycraft being the more economical of the two.
After the match, the two teams met at a local pub for beers, celebrating some good cricket and the friendship between the two teams and nations.
