Mareibat Premier Preview

The Mareibat Premier comes shambling back for a fourth season. Once again Halholzer United are the favourites for the title, but wait what's this?! Bellight FC and Harmonica Tundra have both gone fully professional in the off season and with Pilgrimage and Teol United becoming semi-professional as well, the standard of play might be marginally better than dreadful this time around. Although that's probably the ceiling for the standard of the league for the forseeable future, with Mareibat still as cash strapped as ever. Scraglet Rovers, having amassed just ten points all of last season will have upped their small islander status this seaon - hopefully they will manage to pick up a win this season!

The tumultuous history of Apoxian domestic football has taken a fresh direction after contract disputes led to a wave of the highest profile foreign stars leaving the league. The previous President, Sammie Puskas was quietly relieved of her role following on from the twenty-sixth season of the ANL - won by Gwinevra Barbarians.

The new boss - former Apox international goalkeeper, Joleon Small, was quick to stamp his influence on domestic football, overhauling the Apoxian league system for the third time in five years since the return of Apoxian football following the corruption scandal.

In a bid to increase Apoxian involvement in more competitions - such as the CEdC, which has been oft ignored by Apoxian administrations - the ANL league system will take place over two seasons, operating in a quasi "apertura-clausura" style. The actual composition of the leagues, of four tiers with the ANL, ANL2, ANL3 and Regional Leagues remains the same and the same number of teams will compete in each league.

However, the timings will change, so that there is likely to be a great deal of extra games played, proportional to league games. The changes are summarised as follows, primarily focussed on the ANL:

- In the first year, 15 games of the ANL are played, in a single round robin format.
- At the end of these fifteen games, the lowest place team is relegated to the ANL2, while the highest placed ANL2 is promoted.
- Participation in UICA, Cygnus Cup and CEdC is as usual, occurring yearly, based off the results from that year. The CEdC participants will be the league winner and the highest placed non-UICA qualifying team. The Marshall Cup will also continue yearly.
- In the second year, the return 15 games of the ANL are played, with the promoted team replacing the relegated team's spot in the fixtures.
- Once again, participation in the next UICA, Cygnus Cup and CEdC occurs, and another Marshall Cup.
- At the end of the second year, the winner of the whole, 30 game, two year season is declared the overall Champion and the bottom two teams are relegated to the ANL2.

This will be quite the change for Apoxians, but the hope is that football of a higher quality will be able to be played. Additional plans for more domestic tournaments are also being considered, if 15 games + Marshall Cup every season is considered too low a number for clubs not regularly competing for UICA. Additionally, this can help alleviate some of the contract problems, as in theory, slightly smaller squads can be utilised for the less established squads as fewer games are likely to be played.

Talking Point: FC Harpoon upset the apple cart, with the team tipped to finish rock bottom this year facing up against last seasons champions in Gwinevra. After the end of the game, the ends of the table are occupied by the reverse teams to those expected, after a performance by a clearly still warming up Gwinevra side. Bjarkin Goring opens the scoring for the underdogs from Cawln, before Ade Untermyer doubles the advantage after half time. The result is sealed from a free-kick, with Ebenezer Oliver's deflection to Jock Austin's kick beating Jadranka Steele. Gwinevra will be hoping this is a blip, and not how their season is going to end up going.

From the lower leagues: AFC United of Cierbanor 8–1 Yerk United (ANL2)
Yerk United (another one fancied for the drop) have a painful start to their season - a complete dismantling by AFC United - Sigrid Brooklyn of Nephara netting herself four in that victory.

Talking Point: Reigning Champions struggling. Gwinevra haven't really got into their stride yet as they search for a record extending ninth title at the end of next year. Up front, Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval has looked her usual self, happily banging in chances and half-chances, but the defense has looked a little shaky so far. No one can dispute the quality in a defense containing Ambrósio Constantini, Liam Dosic and Cynthia Pack, but for some reason they've just looked a little disjointed so far - something that will leave Chris Maarsden scratching his head trying to solve.

Talking Point: Axe the Dominant continuing Oldem Knights improvement. Axe the Dominant earned respect and fear in equal parts for his playing style - hard and uncompromising. As a manager, he seems even more a force, basically bullying his team into performances. However, it appears to be working so far, as they sit just a point behind FC Endeavour at the top of the table. He has taken a talented but not superstar squad (with the possible exception of Jack Jevđenijević) and turned them into real workhorses. This is exemplified by 35 year old captain Helios Richardson who has marshalled his team on the field and turned into an extension of his manager on the pitch.

Talking Point: Wofford Town's struggles. Wofford Town have a broadly talented squad, but so far sit bottom of the table, having just looked quite toothless so far up front this season. New manager Armando Quillisi needs to find a way to get good chances to Julienne Eriksen up front. His main problem is that his midfield, while being hardworking, it not overly creative. The young Eusebio Drawbridge is the most creative presence on the team, but at nineteen doesn't yet have the consistency to be the midfield lynchpin the team is craving. Until then, Cleopatra Hyde and Coleman Ezekitias must up their game from the wings.

Talking Point: Exton's revival under Tolgus Tregajorran. Since the return of the ANL after the corruption induced hiatus, Exton have really struggled in the league - a far cry from the days when they were UICA regulars and an occasional Champion's Cup team in the days when the ANL had a heady 7 places in UICA. However, this season has seen more of an emphasis on attack - and while five goals in six games might not indicate that, looking at chances created, the numbers are increasing each week. Jhon Mercurier - up until this season thought to be an average striker who'd only ever broken through at Dwile due to the potent midfield behind him, is being redeployed by Tregajorran as a player who can create chances now rather than just finish them - something which is adding another side to his game. Additionally, Robyn Yamazaki is having her best season in Apox so far and is also creating a greater number of chances - she set up Aliser Redmond for his goal against Calshott Lighthouse for instance.

Talking Point: AFC United of Cierbanor continue to dominate the ANL2. Six games played. Six games won. A goal difference of +18 and 25 goals scored. Cierbanor are a force to be reckoned with this season - and don't be surprised if they're the team who come up at the end of the year at the mid season swap point.

Talking Point: Oldem Knights in the mix. Axe the Dominant has once again bullied his team into a good position in the early part of the season - aided by having top quality strikers up front in Eri Raajimakers and Jack Jevđenijević. However, this has been a symbol of his time in charge of the Knights - a strong early start before fading away later on. With the top of the table still so tight, only 6 points between Endeavour in first and rivals Mechanical in 8th, Axe will need to keep getting his team to pull out strong performances. Their most recent win, a convincing 3-1 away victory over Urbanista where Raajimakers, Huel and Nightshade scored shows the differing directions of the teams. This need to keep happening and the key to that will Arthur Jakkar maintaining his strong run of form, pulling the strings in midfield. This is probably the 33 year olds best season in the ANL so far - inspiring the Knights to a trophy of some sort would be just reward for his quiet brilliance in the centre of the park.

Talking Point: FC Brimstone lacking identity. Despite being one of the few teams to be mainstays in the ANL over the years - FC Brimstone could probably take the title of "ANL's most bland team" (other than possibly Wye United), something their fans would argue passionately against. The truth is Brimstone were a wreck when Chris Orani took over, and so he's had to steady the ship with what he's had. They are still in financial difficulties, and so he may have to sell at the end of the year to mold a more cohesive squad - perhaps having to sell Isadora Bloodsworth, Luxulya Hamilton or Emi Leland. However, a draw against the ever impressive Dwile Warriors will please Orani, and give him a vital point as he tries to steer his team away from the drop.

Talking Point: Low scoring. This season has been a fairly low scoring one - even for a fairly defensively set up league, with an average of 2.66 goals being scored per match. Looking at the table, this becomes apparent when you see that five teams have scored at less than a goal a game so far, with only two (Barbury Town and Dwile Warriors) scoring at a rate of two goals a game or more. This can't be entirely due to strikers misfiring, with Marcy Blake-Tatum, Kel Koromin, Winston Arrowsmith and Aldo Vocani all having scored five or more goals so far. The defending has been of particularly high quality so far, and it is perhaps that which tells a greater story - the defensive unit at Barbury Town being particularly impressive so far.

Talking Point: Gavin Hughes sacked. From national team hero and widely respected coach to seeing Urbanista (UICA qualifiers last season) currently in 14th in the table and looking largely short of inspiration. To be fair, they have been drained of talent a little, with Marcy Blake-Tatum moving to Dwile Warriors and Malachi Gallagher also moving on, but there is still a lot of talent in the team and they've been massively underperforming all season. The hunt for a new manager begins.

Talking Point: The Auld Classic. One for the ages there, as you simply don't expect to see a scoreline of 8-2 between two teams of such calibre. Gwinevra Barbarians played the best they have so far this season, and Dwile Warriors were certainly sub par, with Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval showing the form she showed last season to win the golden boot, scoring a hat-trick, one from the left boot, one from the right and one from the penalty spot. Moon Dust was quick to bemoan the result, stating that "it was surely a case of Gloria King's sending off which led to the scoreline seen." I'm not too sure myself, the score as already at 4-1 when King was sent off for dragging Eneka Hexmark down in the area - Oakstone-Sandoval completing her hat-trick to make the score 5-1.

Talking Point: Barbury Town top of the table! Barbury have struggled to regain the heights they reached before the hiatus in the last few years, with even the return of Ken Rickwright for a season and a half not bringing them back to the promised lands of UICA football. Their fans are therefore delighted to see them currently top of the table under new manager Alan Eustathios, who has managed to give Aldo Vocani the support up front he needs and has benefitted from Jarls Magarhatery's emergence as a player to rival Imriel Townsend and James Palmisano in terms of skill and ability. They are in pole position to gain Champion's Cup football this season, but must do well in the second half next year to add another title to their collection.

Talking Point: Guaranteed to have an ANL2 Marshall Cup Winner. In extraordinary scenes in the Marshall Cup semi-finals, the two competing ANL sides, FC Brimstone and Dwile Warriors were knocked out to lower league opposition, guaranteeing a lower league winner of the Marshall Cup for the first time in it's history. Uxminster Athletic are a side with recent ANL pedigree, and they did well to beat out FC Brimstone, taking the game to penalties and then showing their nerve. For Witchunt however, this is the ultimate Marshall Cup fairytale, with the ANL2 team hailing from a town of less than 20,000 population taking on the giants of Dwile Warriors, and comfortably beating them! They raced into an early lead and then just kept on scoring, with Forlock Pentameter's goal coming after the game was already decided.

Talking Point: Race for the final Globe Cup place. With the ANL now expanded to having two Champion's Cup places again, there are a wide variety of teams who can finally get a look in now that there are two spots available outside of the usual big guns of Gwinevra Barbarians, Dwile Warriors and FC Endeavour. At the moment, Tolgus Tregajorran's Exton F.C are in pole position to head to the Globe Cup, but FC Brimstone, Oldem Knights, Egloskerry and Wrexton F.C can all mathematically qualify, though you expect it to be one of the first three who will qualify for that last Globe Cup spot.

Talking Point: FC Harpoon relegated. How far Rodin Vidal has fallen... from winning the league with Barbury Town pre-hiatus to now being relegated with FC Harpoon, the team he brought up to the ANL all those years ago. Harpoon have looked pretty listless all season and a return of eight points from fourteen games is just not good enough, with Vidal announcing he will step down in his role at the end of the year, in order to let someone with fresh ideas come in to help Harpoon come straight back up from the ANL2 at the end of these new elongated seasons. They will be replaced by AFC United of Cierbanor in the ANL, who've largely swept the ANL2 and will be spending the season half of the season in the top tier with the big boys.

Talking Point: Oldem Knights vs Exton F.C. And so it transpired that Oldem Knights would host Exton on the final day of the year, with the winner most likely to gain the final Globe Cup spot, providing FC Brimstone couldn't upset the applecart. Despite Tolgus Tregajorran's side making a bright start, they couldn't translate their initial early advantage into goals, with Jhon Mercurier coming closest drawing a good save from Ulysses Abujamal in goal. In the second half, fired up by a half time shouting at from Axe the Dominant, the Knights were a different proposition, Nightshade getting the opening goal of the game in the 63rd, heading home Alexsandr Denisov's cross, before Jack Jevđenijević coolly slotted home from the penalty spot. The Knights are heading for UICA football for the first time in the merged club's history (St. George's Creek participated a few times). Exton F.C must content themselves with the CEdC.

Talking Point: Uxminster Athletic become the first lower league club to lift the Marshall Cup. Witchunt were the plucky underdogs in the final, even scoring the opener from the fantastically in form Elliscombe Hape. However, they simply weren't able to withstand the pressure from Uxminster, many of whom have playing experience in the ANL and it shows with Justice Redmond scoring the equaliser in the first half and then Oberon Khalil and Joanna Ushindi taking the game away from Witchunt. They will represent Apox in the Cygnus Cup next year.

Mareibat Season Three - Preview

The MBC were typically disorganised last season and somehow the Mareibat Premier never occurred. Not to worry, as it returns this year, with Halholzer United once again overwhelming favourites to win yet another title. Bellight FC have added a few additional players to their squad, although the loss of Richard Armada to Valladares will be a big loss for them. They do, however, retain hopes of becoming the second team in the league to be fully professional next season and pip Harmonica Tundra to that in the process. From the rest of the pack, Teol United, Pilgrimage and Cape of Hope FC look the best positioned to nab a Globe Cup place. At the bottom of the table, Halholzer Spitfires continue to look as dreadful as the clubs ability to function properly, even behind traditional minnows Scraglet Rover and Arbour Lights FC.

Bellight F.C 2–0 Halholzer United - Matchday 2
Bellight F.C gain an early advantage over their fierce rivals, Roger O'Connor's United looking a little sluggish starting the season off and Vina O'Hara taking full advantage of that here - even with the loss of their striking talisman, Richard Armada. The first goal is a well struck Studio Marquis strike past Torin Johnstone, who is too slow to react outside her penalty area, before the second is Schottic striker Jan Ümann's first goal at the club - you sense it won't be his last.

Harmonica Tundra 4–1 Sciongrad Rovers - Matchday 6
The Tundra sweep aside a scrappy Sciongrad Rover's side, Hannah Croxton up front being an absolute weapon all match - she has a hat-trick after twenty-six minutes, to the dismay of many Rovers fans inside the small ground just outside Halholzer. Sciongrad do strike back through Donald Arondo after half-time, but a Jack Morriston goal late on confirms what everyone already knew. This result moves Harmonica Tundra up to third, behind Bellight F.C and FC Euclid(!). Halholzer United have had a poor start to the season, and are currently 7th, with Roger O'Connor in hot water at the moment.

Bellight F.C 3–1 Bellight Wanderers - Matchday 16
The Bellight derby is as tempestuous as ever, with the Wanderers in the large number of teams who can generally be described as being "pretty bloody terrible" at the moment. Bellight, however, are on the up, and go into this game somehow seven points ahead of Halholzer United in second - their best shot at a title in quite a while. However, the Wanderers strike first, and early. A player from each side is sent off, first Jacob Ironwald for the Wanderers and then Lenka Skarsgaard for FC. However, with more space to play into with less players on the pitch, Bellight work their magic, and a Geena Opendale double either side of Jan Ümann's goal later, Bellight trot out winners.

Pilgrimage 2–0 Bellight F.C - Matchday 26
Bellight F.C go into the final matchday tied on points with Halholzer United currently in first. In their way stand Pilgrimage, the small team from outer Halholzer who have been transformed under Roy Tobin this season and still have faint hopes of wresting UICA football away from Cape of Hope FC. Bellight start with their usual belligerence, attempting to batter Pilgrimage off the ball. But this is the Mareibat Premier, and there are few experiences as tough as playing away to Scraglet Rovers on their lumpy, muddy pitch on a rainy Saturday evening in front of 200 supporters, so teams tend to get tough. And so it proves, Dean Flint squeezing an opener past Herudden Macklehove in the thirtieth minute before doubling his team's lead seven minutes into the first half. With Halholzer United gliding past FC Euclid 1-0 - the most Halholzer of scorelines - the title is sealed. Back to Halholzer for another season then.

On the Fluctuating Crowd Sizes in Apox

We live in an interesting time for domestic Apoxian football. Things are, by and large, recovering from the hiatus which wreaked havoc on the domestic game in the country. Top ANL clubs are thriving once more, and beginning to compete at the top echelons of international football once again. However, this growth and improvement is not shared universally around the country. Are some clubs struggling with the pressure.

Take Uxminster Athletic. A middling team, classically flitting between the top tier and the ANL2 below, they've certainly achieved some success in recent years (somehow marching to a Marshall Cup victory in the 601 season springs to mind). However, Apox's most seaside resort town has been struggling to fill the 18,000 all seater Beachfront Close ground in recent years, averaging just over 10,000 supporters all season, this response baffling many officials at the club. An average season ticket at the club costs §700 - by no means a massive amount for a country where the average pay packet is §35,000, with the avrage wage around Uxminster being higher at §42,000.

I spoke to first team manager Roy Tobin, who was bullish on the situation at the club, stating that, "the crowd size we draw is dependent on the success of the team. We have very passionate fans here in the south and I feel proud to represent the club as their manager. My main aim is to focus on organising a team to get back into the ANL, and I'm sure the crowds will pick up as a result." However, other figures at the club have stated slight concerns at the lower numbers of fans attending the game. Bryce Coln, the sporting director at the club he this to say: "The size of the crowd we can expect to see on any given matchday has remained steady at around 10,000 since the end of the hiatus - it is troubling yes, but not an anomaly seen elsewhere in Apox".

He'd be correct there - other teams have also struggled to fill their stadiums, with Urbanista Trojans and Urbanista Young Boys - sharing Drivers Close in the city almost never filling it to capacity and often attracting crowds less than half of the 19,000 capacity of the stadium. Other "second" teams in cities, such as Gwinevra Bulls and Egloskerry have also struggled, though in Egloskerry's case this may be in part due to chronic mismanagement both on and off the pitch. The most striking example of this happening though is FC Harpoon, the club from Cawln playing in the gigantic Celebratory Stadium - originally built to host World Cup 69 and attracting criticism at the time for being a 45,000 stadium in a city of only 42,000 occupants, especially with the longer established Cawln Wanderers also in the city. The city has since grown to be just shy of 60,000 people, but Harpoon have always struggled to even half fill their ground and even played a number of matches at the much more modest City Ground last season - a ground with a capacity of just 8,000 - usually the home of Cawln Wanderers. With Harpoon back in the ANL last season, there are hopes that things can pick up, although manager Nelson Horatio has voiced concerns, at a press conference saying "this club simply doesn't have the resources long term to stay in the Celebratory Stadium. We are currently investigating other options, but at this moment moving to an expanded City Ground looks the most promising".

It is not bleak reading for everyone though. Wofford Town, now established as a top flight presence and with a sold out stadium every week are currently undergoing a complete rebuild of their 24,000 Ground of Champions. Originally built as a temporary structure, few could've predicted how well the new city would do. They will play their home games next season at the tiny Wofford Athletics Centre before moving into the rebuild Ground of Champions for the 603 season - with the new state of the art stadium holding 33,000 people then. FC Endeavour have also upgraded the Garganaut in the off season, bringing it's capacity to 50,000, making it the joint second biggest domestic stadium in the country behind Dwile Warriors. Further down the leagues as well, the improving and rebranded Barbury Fjellravens have made improvements to their tiny stadium, bringing it to a capacity of 7,000 - they hope to get into and establish themselves in the second tier in the near future, with a view to becoming an ANL club soon.

This is a clear indication of the flowing dynamics and interests in specific football clubs throughout the nation though - although the biggest teams still remain the most attracive place to go to watch top quality football.

Talking Point: Exton go out of the Globe Cup in a blaze of fire. Tolgus Tregajorran has certainly got his team motivated this season, and hopes are high after convincing early performances against Westpark Guns of Tinhampton, Jhon Mercurier scoring both goals in the second game to keep things interesting, Tregajorran evidently delighted by the performances of the player he's taken most under his tutelage. However, against Consacres of the entirely unknown Côte d’Saphir, things fall apart in a way which looks like might happen regularly this season. In the home leg, the Southern Castles look a bit flat and concede unfortunately late on, Lemuel Bereket making a rare error. In the second leg, with Bereket benched for Ben Cole, things are even more disastrous, the team falling apart and openly squabbling. They concede twice early on and are simply unable to recover the three goals needed to progress, despite the best efforts of Mercurier who again scores.

Talking Point: Revamped Brimstone hand the champions a disappointing start. Chris Orani was handed a big fat case of money in the offseason and instructed to spend it on anything that moves. Which he promptly does so. However, it appears to pay off as Brimstone play well against a Barbury side who don't quite look on form yet, those new signings helping out a great deal - Egyed Váradi laying the ball back to Isadora Bloodsworth to score the opener past a stunned Admiral Falcon, before Geoffrey Klingenberg looks to prove he was worth the 15 million spent on him by scoring an absolute thunderbastard to seal the win.

Talking Point: The Auld Classic doesn't disappoint. The first Auld Classic of the season, traditionally the biggest game in Apox between Dwile Warriors and Gwinevra Barbarians takes place at the APX Sports Stadium and while Dwile have looked a little wobbly at times this season, they looked nothing of the sort in this game, Marcy Blake-Tatum in particular looking really fired up and ready to take the fight to the opposition, finding space between Liam Dosic and Wes Kolo to score in the fifth minute before an Isidra Jeurissen free-kick doubles Dwile's lead. Archibald Koyaanisqatsi uses his raw power to score a thunderbastard in the twentieth minute, but Dwile's lead isn't cut for long and they score again six minutes later through Kel Koromin. The victory is fully secured in the second half, as Liam Dosic caps a game to forget with his attempted clearance going into his own net.

Talking Point: Mulhampstead look really poor. Will Hewitt already finds himself under pressure as his porous side is the only one yet to pick up a point this season, haemorraging goals as a rate of more than three a game. In this run are games they would have really hoped to have been more competitive in and losses to FC Harpoon and Egloskerry will really sting. Hewitt has announced that he is making a raft of changes in the next match, as well as switching up things on the training ground. Mulhampstead were always going to struggle a bit this season, but so far they've been way off the mark.

Talking Point: Dwile Warriors under pressure. The Warriors have had a poor start to their season as pressure builds on manager Moon Dust to turn things around at the club. Despite spending a fair bit of money on the squad and having a number of brilliant players in the team, the Warriors have so far only managed to win in the Auld Classic this season - a morale boosting win but not enough so far and certainly not good enough for a team hoping to challenge for the title this season. Luckily, they are not alone with results being fairly well distributed this season and a number of big clubs struggling so far. However, with the long trophy drought the club are now in, instant improvement must be seen or it may be the managers head.

Talking Point: The early rounds of the Marshall Cup continue to entertain. The qualifying round of the Marshall Cup gives some minnows a time in the sun and they've certainly not disappointed so far. The students at Metropolitan University Dwile travelled to Brimstone although the journey hasn't seemed to have affected them as they paste the cities second team 7-0. Elsewhere, former ANL team Atletico Standard lose on penalties to another team of students, this time hailing from Barbury Crown University. Wofford's second team, the more carefully managed City beat out Bolventor to progress while in the "Nepharim inspired name" derby, Martell Zenith beat out the Mariners from Barclay.

Talking Point: First sacking of the season. With Dwile Warriors boasting a grand total of just one win so far this season, the board have decided to act to counteract this worrying slide and have sacked Moon Dust as manager, following on from the teams limp loss to Wye last game. There is a bit of a dearth of top quality managers in the ANL at the moment who might be tempted away, with Ponting Glamorgan at Wye and Sto Southwold at Mechanical currently linked to the job - perhaps only on a temporary basis. Whatever happens, they will need to turn things around quickly as the current situation is not acceptable for the club.

Talking Point: Mechanical continue their excellent start to the season by beating out the Knights in the Oldem derby. It is as fiery as usual, with Brayden Custworth scoring early but Alexsandr Denisov cancels out the advantage in the 15th minute. However, a large brawl in the 22nd minute, which ends up including both managers and a number of players leads to a lengthy delay in play, with Arthur Jakkar and Zebulon Rusch eventually receiving reds and Axe the Dominant also being sent to the stands for his role in the fracas. This really blows the wind out of the Knights sails and they eventually lose 3-1.

Talking Point: Slight uptick in form for Dwile. After appointing Wye United boss Ponting Glamorgan on a contract until the end of the season (with potential for extensions if she does well), Dwile have taken four points from a possible six, although an entertaining 3-3 draw against Mechanical is not somewhere where the club can be affording to lose points. Marcy Blake-Tatum continues to lead the line well and Kel Koromin has good experience up front, even if he is no longer a starter due to his age. In fact, it's at the back where difficulties arise, with the 3-5-2 formation they employ needing fast and experienced centre-backs. Eurwen Raynerson and Etzy Dialogue are old and slow, and Lexus Garrison is still learning in his first season as a Dwile starter. This is probably compounded by the clubs scattergun recruitment policy which saw them pick up two left backs - both of whom are probably playing more attacking roles than they are comfortable with - and not sign anyone new in the centre of defense and up front, the two areas where they could have done with improvement.

Talking Point: FC Endeavour are quietly being excellent. Reinhard Shale has been quietly shoring up the defense and allowing his players to play more expressive football and the contrast between how the team are performing now and at the end of Kjn Volgisrhaad's chaotic reign could not be clearer. And it shows, as they have quietly hoisted themselves into the top spot in the league after eight matches have been played, as well as guiding them safely through the early Marshall Cup rounds. Alpha Gandhi has done well up front and Lewis Phoenix looks poised to be a big name at the club in the future in the games he's featured in so far - fears of the team falling apart upfront after Winston Arrowsmith's departure very much unfounded then. However, the league table is exceptionally tight at the moment, although a string of good results could see them rise above the rest and hold a commanding lead at the top.

Talking Point: Wye United seem to be doing just fine. Despite having their logn term manager prised away by a big name job at Dwile, Wye don't seem to have suffered for it, and indeed they currently sit above Dwile in the table. They've brought in Centre for Excellence coach Jack Ohanna as their head coach and he seems to have adapted to the job well, bringing on the development of Alice Montfort-Columbo who seems to be displacing the ageing Ioghan Maverick as the teams primary goalscoring threat up front. He seems to have bought into the long standing team ethos at Wye, which has netted them a lot of success over the years despite always having a moderate budget and a team usually not full of big names. With the table as tight as it is this year, the Lads remain very much in contention for UICA places with a third of the season played.

Talking Point: Dwile Warriors on the march. New boss Ponting Glamorgan seems to be enjoying quite the new manager bounce despite many claiming she'd be getting a nose bleed at this level. In fact, her new team are unbeaten in the five games they've played under her, winning four and drawing once, including a big win over fierce rivals FC Endeavour in the league and beating Ephesian FC in the Globe Cup group stage. Marcy Blake-Tatum continues to play well for the side and she has evolved into a pivotal player for them in the last season or so due to Kel Koromin fading somewhat with age. Despite being eighth currently in the table, the truth is they are just three points off Barbury at the summit and it's very much all still to play for after a turbulent start to the season.

Mountainshire claim their fourth ACCT trophy as they remain the dominant force in Apoxian domestic cricket, with Gwinshire and Old Guard both finishing in the play-off spots for the season season in a row. For the holders, Oxshottshire, this season represented rather a fall from grace, with a strong first half of the season gave way to a disastrous second half and they end up finishing second bottom. For last season's second bottom team, Olfa, this season was a marked improvement and they spent quite a spell at the top of the table before being overhauled by Mountainshire. With a definite increase in the number of bonus points this season, and in continued attempts to avoid merely "raising the floor" with the bonus point allocations, the board are likely to make it a little harder to achieve bonus points next season. However, the allocation of bonus points used in this season was:

Talking Point: FC Brimstone are in trouble. Chris Orani is on very thin ice indeed at the moment. So far this season, his team have averaged half a point a game, picking up points fully half as quickly as Mulhampstead above them. When you compare the quality throughout the team to many of those above them - Mulhamptead, FC Harpoon, Egloskerry - there really is no comparison. After the last game, Orani received the dreaded vote of confidence in him by the board - showing that unless there is a dramatic improvement very soon, he will be gone. However, there is hope for them. Wofford Town had been in a similar position until just a couple of matches ago. Now they've found some form and are properly back in the midtable mixer. Orani must hope his Brimstone team find similar form very soon.

Talking Point: The UICA Group Stages are done. And it is a good set of results for all Apoxian clubs partaking, with all progressing from their respective groups to the next round of competition. Barbury Town finishing second is particularly impressive considering the very difficult group they found themselves in, finishing above Hondo FC and Mâ Âlâmëómë is no mean feat indeed. Dwile Warriors finish second to the impressive Qusmi outfit of Poldanz, while Gwinevra Barbarians top their group beating a number of strong sides to the finish, even if Ulsa aren't quite the powerhouse they once were.

Talking Point: Noel Amundsen doing an incredible job at Urbanista. Few would have predicted a good season for Urbanista this time around - they have a good squad on paper, but one which many thought wouldn't be anywhere near the very best sides. However, Amundsen has imbued a real team spirit in the side, and they are currently only stopped from being the top side in Apox by goal difference, with the remarkable turnaround of Dwile Warriors holding them off. While praise must be given to the attack - Jon Fossum has leaped forward in terms of his development this season - the real strength of this team is in their defense. They've only lost once all season, the lowest amount, and this has given them a firm foundation to build off, with strong performers in Ayrton Fox, Marcus Gallegos and Ermenegildo Urriza.

Talking Point: Gwinevra are in a rut. It is not the best time to be a Gwinevra fan at the moment. The club have been transformed under Chris Maarsden's leadership - going from a sleeping giant struggling to assert themselves at the highest level to arguably the best club in the nation under his time as manager. However, they've struggled to click this season, and two 0-0 draws in a row against bottom of the table Brimstone and the fading Wye are not what they need right now. They've got one of the best defenses in the league still - as shown by them conceding the second least number of goals so far, but with just seventeen goals scored there is trouble up front. Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval and Archibald Koyaanisqatsi have looked tired in the first half of the season and have been unable to provide their usual spark, while Eneka Hexmark has looked a little past it so far this season, and is in fierce competition for her place against the young and vibrant Harlem Saxstrom. However, you only need to look at Dwile to know that it is very close indeed this season, and their fortunes could change at a moments notice.

Talking Point: Axe the Dominant wobbles precariously. Despite many years of talking the talking, Axe the Dominant has, by all accounts, failed to walk the walk. Oldem Knights were promised a vision of competing with the "Big Three" in the league. Instead, they've failed to qualify for UICA every season and watched Barbury Town upset the applecart and bag an ANL title of their own. It's not as if the board haven't funded Axe in the transfer market either, and they have a decent squad - certainly as good as or even better than Exton and Wrexton in third and fourth currently anyway. The Knights languish in 11th instead, in serious danger of being dragged into the relegation zone and while no one is suggesting they might go down this season, so far it is shaping up to be another disappointing one and Axe the Dominant is by most people's money the most likely to next, well, be axed as a manager in the ANL.

Talking Point: Egloskerry might have run out of luck. Egloskerry have been one of those teams who you've always looked at, and thought "how the hell are they still here?". Ever since the heady days of the Rohan Cammers player/manager/dictator (the same Cammers that has somehow just won the Galacticos manager of the season award?!), they've revelled in playing dirty, angry, anti-football. Stick a big man up front with some even bigger geezers behind them and smash heads on tables. It... has not been attractive football to say the least. And yet, they've always somehow got away with it. However, their luck may have finally run out and they've been sliding down the table for week and are now one of the more likely teams to go down, even more so than Brimstone below them who have been playing well in recent weeks. Sunbar McCoy looks like he's lost control over his players most matches and a number of them look like they've stopped caring. However, problems run so deep at the club that even if they sacked him, would it make any difference?

Talking Point: Skibbereen United are tearing up the third tier. So far this season, in most of the top tiers, everything is very close and everything is very much still to play for as we go into the second half of the season. Down at the top of the third tier though, Skibbereen United continue their good rise through the Apoxian league pyramid, thanks largely to highly rated Mareibatian striker Mubaaraka Durtch, who is going at a goal a game this season, and is already picking up links to top tier sides - regardless of whether Skibbereen can hold on for promotion or not.

Talking Point: Axe gets Axed. Well, it isn't particularly unexpected, but with the Knights still floundering around in midtable, Axe the Dominant has been handed his marching orders by the board, after years of big hype and no trophies. His replacement is something of a coup for the side - Kjn Volgisrhaad is a big figure, literally as well as metaphorically standing at seven feet tall, and he will be eager to get back into action having been without a job since leaving Endeavour in the off season. He has the winning mentality and has won trophies both as a player and manager, and the board will be hoping he can imbue some of the squad with some magic gold dust. Unless, in classic Knights form, things lurch from one minor crisis to another, which is almost guaranteed.

Talking Point: FC Endeavour keep pace with Dwile and Barbury at the top, beating Gwinevra Barbarians in a key match and handing the struggling Barbarians yet another blow. The game kicked off with the usual intensity and Alpha Gandhi continued his good run of form by opening the scoring. However, the Barbarians were able to ease into the game, exposing Endeavour's defensive frailties well, and after good, powerful efforts by Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval and Archibald Koyaanisqatsi, found themselves in the lead. It looked very much like that was how the game would end, but a triple change by Reinhard Shale after eighty minutes of play turned out to be the changing point. In particular, Euran striker Lewis Phoenix was the star, causing all sorts of trouble to the previously settled looking Gwienvra defense, scoring an equaliser with two minutes to go by heading in Brady D'Etcheverry's angled through-ball before doing it himself, in the process leaving Isidra Belgrave in the dust, to score the winner in the second minute of injury time.

Lower Leagues
The second tier is similarly very close with two-thirds of the season played. Royal Issington are at the moment top, as they bid for a return to the top tier, their performance so far based on an ability to blow away teams, Alessandro Delvecchio setting up his team to power through all opposing teams, a fact backed up by the stat of only three league losses all season. Calshott Lighthouse behind them are bidding for an immediate return to the ANL, while Azewyn Royals under long term manager Keri Ularu are still very much in the mix to finally break out of the second tier and ascend to the highest level of Apoxian football after many yers of threatening to. Issington F.C languish in twelfth, a sorry state of affairs from a club which once sat on top of the pile (admittedly a very long time ago now), new manager Olivier Gardet failing to inspire an admittedly average looking group of players to better things. The loss of Pluto Blinkman to Mytanija really was a big one for them.

Barbury Fjellravens have been pursuing a very "all-or-nothing" approach to life in the second tier this season, taking part in a number of entertaining games: a 7-2 dismantling of Beowulf FC on Matchday 3; a 5-4 victory over Cawln Wanderers in Matchday 6; a 3-5 loss to Issington F.C on Matchday 8 and a 6-4 loss to Royal Issington on Matchday 11 just a small subsection of the carnage they've inflicted on the league so far this season. Erwan Salter in particular seems to have settled into life in the second tier particularly well. Glancing down to the bottom of the table, Beowulf FC have looked truly dreadful all season - unable to score, unable to defend really, they are 12 points from safety with ten games to play and are all but down. Urbanista Young Boys seem to have gone a bit adrift as well, but if they can make some ground up on the teams above them then anyone from the Fjellravens in tenth could find themselves stuck in a bit of a relegation battle.

It's impossible to look past Skibbereen United as winning the third tier at the moment, they have been absolute dominant thus far this season and currently enjoy an eleven point advantage over Dwile Warriors Youth in second. Other than that the rest of the division remains fairly close together, and there is plenty that can change with thirty points still to play for. For the youthful Warriors, the third tier is their ceiling anyway, with youth teams barred from competing in the top two tiers of Apoxian football, meaning Skibbereen's distance from teams who could also be promoted is actually a very healthy 13 points indeed. There are a number of teams in the mixer for play-off places though, with Etchilhampton, Barrabrook and Tuffield all in pole position at the moment. All three of those teams have had meteoric rises through the Apoxian league system in recent years, and so the prospect of playing in the second tier is very exciting for all, although it would require converting to professional status for both Tuffield and Etchilhampton. At the bottom, the highly fancied Wallwatch FC are not doing so well this season, a shame, while the ultra-aggressive Avenida Apox are also in the relegation play-offs, financial irregularities causing havoc both off and on the field. A drop down a tier would leave them in perilous financial straits indeed.

Talking Point: Wrexton doing well. They've gone pretty unnoticed throughout much of the season, but it is certainly worth mentioning how well Wrexton have been doing so far this season under Ásbjörn Tachibana, the Falcus national pushing a avery average-to-poor squad into UICA contention, even at this stage of the season. They've played compact, counter-attacking football, beating Wofford one-nil on the break and only narrowly losing to a more talented Urbanista side in the last couple of games. Tachibana has managed to revive the careers of the front three of Dyer, Daniels and Graham, and so far they've looked very menacing all season.

Talking Point: Dwile Warriors are on the march. What a turnaround Ponting Glamorgan has seen at Dwile since she took over there, sorting out their defensive issues while not taking away from their attacking abilities. And it's shown, the team outscoring second placed FC Endeavour by thirteen goals. This has largely been driven by Marcy Blake-Tatum, who has been on fire in goalscoring terms, making up for the slow down by the ageing Kel Koromin. All this combined sees them have a four point cushion over Endeavour with just six games still to play. This is the closest they've been to a title post-hiatus, the fans will be praying they don't mess it up.

Talking Point: Even though it's highly unlikely he'll still be there next season, Chris Orani has managed to guide FC Brimstone out of the relegation zone, for the first time in forever. They've noticeably tightened up defensively in recent weeks, and combining that with a slightly higher scoring rate, they've now gone above FC Harpoon on goal difference, crucially above the relegation zone. It's hard to work out exactly where they've gone so wrong this season - the squad isn't bad and Chris Orani is a manager who has achieved good things with Egloskerry before now - just look at where they are now that he's gone. However, he just hasn't been able to click with this set of players, and after the board threw money around in a big way in the off season, spending the entire season in a relegation battle is not what they had in mind.

Talking Point: Gwinevra managing to turn their season around. Gwinevra really struggled in the middle part of the season, and were some way off the UICA places at one point. However, Chris Maarsden has rallied the troops, and squandering a 2-0 lead to Wrexton F.C aside, they've been steadily picking up points. At the moment it looks like its going to be a four way fight for the final two Globe Cup spots, between them, Exton, Urbanista and Wrexton, but Gwinevra have the most experience and the best squad out of the lot and so should be alright in the end.

Talking Point: Dwile Warriors have won the 602 season Apox National League! In a dramatic turnaround over the course of the season, where they started off terribly and ended up sacking long time manager Moon Dust, the Warriors have finally claimed that elusive 8th ANL title that they've been searching for since the return of the ANL from hiatus. Powered on by the incredible form of almost certain League Top Scorer Marcy Blake-Tatum and a host of players having brilliant seasons behind her such as Cassiopeia Quintero, Jayden Fox, Nick James and Eurwen Raynerson, the team have really turned around their ailing season and smashed a title victory.

Season 28 - Part Four


Right, the final day of the season. The Warriors have clinched their 8th ANL title, while the UICA places are decided, although the final finishing positions of the Globe Cup spots is still to be finalised. Down the bottom, Egloskerry and FC Harpoon are currently in the relegation zone, although FC Brimstone and in theory Oldem Mechanical could still go down. The lower tiers are somewhat more exciting. Skjoll Premier currently sit atop the table on 53 point, although Calshott Lighthouse, Azewyn Royals and Uxminster Athletic could all seize the title from them on the final day. Uxminster Athletic could also lose their final play-off place if Mandon United or Royal Issington can better their result. At the bottom of the ANL2, Beowulf FC are long relegated, fully on half the points of second bottom, and one of Barbury Fjellravens, Gwinevra Bulls and Urbanista Young Boys will join them in the third tier next season. Finally, glancing down to the ANL3, Skibbereen United are safely top of the table and promoted, thanks to Dwile Warriors Youths currently sitting in second. With both Dwile Warriors Youth and Centre for Excellence in the play-off spots but unable to be promoted, the picture gets more complicated as to who will be joining Skibbereen in going up to the ANL2 next season.

0': We are underway across the nation! Still lots to play for, though the most exciting events are the relegation battle in the ANL and the battle for promotion at the congested top of the second tier.
1': Skjoll Premier currently hold a slim advantage in the second tier - thanks largely to former ANL heavyweight Blodeuwedd Conmara smashing in goals for them all season - she's still got it, even at 35.
2': GOAL. GWBu 0-1 RIS. Royal Issington move up to 4th and currently in the play-off spaces with an early goal at The Olympia Oval, Leo Raven's cut back to Mylene Dekker whistling past Jerome Ofgartner in the Bulls goal.
3': Behind the Premier, are long term promotion contenders Azewyn Royals and a Calshott Lighthouse side hoping for immediate promotion back to the ANL. Both teams look quite set up to survive in the top tier next season, but at the moment will have to go through the tribulations of the play-offs to get there.
4': GOAL. GWBa 1-0 WYE. The Barbarians are on song today, and have started very brightly in front of a capacity home ground. It is Llorent Llangolan who is opening the scoring for the side, and they are up to third.
5': GOAL. FCH 1-0 DWW. Big early goal at the Celebratory Stadium (which incidentally is the last game for Harpoon at the Celebratory stadium, it is just too big for a club their size). Fabian Memphis knocks the ball forward and Meghan Rasmussen is there to head it past Oriana Durrell in goal. Harpoon move out of the relegation zone.
6': Egloskerry have been utter dross for about three-quarters of this season - it's only a relatively good start which means they're still in touching distance of safety. Still nil-all at the Eggcentric arena, is this finally the end of Egloskerry's most recent stay in the top tier?
7': GOAL. BAF 1-0 URC. The Fjellravens have never struggled with scoring this season - but their defense has been just as leaky which has led them to still being in trouble at the end of the season. It is Erwan Salter for a scarcely believable 27th goal of the season, and they move out of the relegation zone, Urbanista Young Boys dropping in instead.
8': GOAL. AVA 1-0 DWY. Avenida Apox take the lead in the ANL3 against the Warriors youth team.
9': It remains goalless so far in Wrexton, with Brimstone needing a result there to ensure they stay up, especially with Harpoon currently beating the Warriors at home.
10': It's also goalless in Wofford, and while Wofford are safe and Endeavour are guaranteed Globe Cup football, a win for Endeavour here would ensure they have less preliminary rounds to jump through next season.
11': PEN. It could be getting exciting in Cawln, as FC Harpoon have been awarded a penalty! Lexus Garrison brings down Bjarkin Goring in the area, with an overeager challenge on the sturdy Harpoon player. No card for Garrison, but an opportunity for Harpoon to go 2-0 up...
12': GOAL. FCH 2-0 DWW. Which they duly do, Goring slotting past Durrell coolly. Brimstone could be in serious trouble here.
13': GOAL. BOU 1-0 ETC. AVA 2-0 DWY. Couple of goals going in in the ANL3. Bouldertown keep the play-off race alive scoring past currently 6th Etchilhampton, while Avenida Apox put another past the Youth from Dwile.
14': Urbanista vs Mulhampstead has looked incredibly turgid so far. Urbanista have done well this season, but have let too many teams into games, upping their number of draws to never before seen levels. If they can cut that out next season, they could be a real force. Mulhampstead however, will be very pleased to have ensured survival for another season.
15': Oldem Mechanical have looked content to sit off the ball at the moment and soak up pressure against Barbury Town. However, they will want something from this game to guarantee survival for them, especially with Harpoon currently beating Dwile.
16': GOAL. CAW 1-0 SKJ. That is a pivotal moment! Cawln Wanderers slip the ball in the back of the net in a scruffy bit of play, meaning three times sit even on 53 points at the top of the ANL2 at the moment. Skjoll are still top of goal difference, but it is intensely close at the minute.
17': Calshott Lighthouseare peppering the Urbanista Trojans goal with shots, but still can't find a way through. 0-0 it remains there.
18': GOAL. AFC 0-1 EXT. Tolgus Tregajorran has just run a large length of touchline, bear hugging protege Jhon Mercurier at the end after he slots one past Corina Barrow in Cierbanor's goal. Exton go back into third with that - what a remarkable effect Tregajorran has had on the club as they are set to get UICA football for the second season in a row.
19': FC Brimstone are looking a lot more potent against Wrexton, Justinian Hargrave makes a good double save to deny Brimstone a key goal. Brimstone still relegated as things stand.
20': GOAL. EGL 0-1 ODK. Eri Raajimakers scores on the break for Oldem, Egloskerry have continued to look largely terrible and will definitely be going down as things stand. Oldem are up to 8th with that goal, much better from them in the closing stages of the season under Kjn Volgisrhaad's managment.
21': GOAL. WAL 1-0 MON. Wallwatch score in the third tier, a close game against Mona A.F.C with both teams lurking just above the relegation zone. They will probably both be safe, but a win for either one of them would confirm it.
22': Dwile Warriors are piling the pressure on at the Celebratory Stadium, the champions elect wanting to finish on a high. Harpoon's defense has been very suspect all season. They will need to score more if they want to take anything from this game.
23': Azewyn Royals have also been looking very threatening against Uxminster Athletic. At the moment, they are sitting 3rd and 4th respectively in the ANL2 but neither will be particularly happy with the uncertainty of a draw.
24': GOAL. GWBa 2-0 WYE. A second goal for Gwinevra! Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval gets one now, picking the ball up from Eneka Hexmark just outside the box. She's been on good form this season, but won't be getting the Top Scorer award this season, that accalade will go to...
25': GOAL. FCH 2-1 DWW. Marcy Blake-Tatum, who scores her 22nd of the season there, exposing the fragile back line of Harpoon to score.
26': GOAL. AVA 2-1 DWY. The Youth team of the champions get one back against Avenida Apox. As things stand they will still be second in the ANL3.
27': Things are getting messy at the Eggcentric arena now as Egloskerry - not for the first time this season - show a lack of discipline in the side. Infighting and lack of coherency shows up once again.
28': Beowulf FC are labouring against Urbanista Young Boys at the moment. The two teams are currently in the relegation zone, and while Beowulf are very much down, the Young Boys have it all to play for. They are knocking on the door.
29': The Fjellravens, who are also in the relegation battle, are also all over Urchfont. They've only got one goal at the moment, but it does feel a lot like more might be on the way.
30': Phew. A lot going on. One third of the final set of games over, two more to go. Onwards!
31': GOAL. GWBa 3-0 WYE. Miriam Oakstone-Sandoval gets a second as this is turning into a bit of a rout. Wye are crumbling a bit under intense pressure from the highly motivated Barbarians side. There are suggestions that Chris Maarsden might step down at Gwinevra in the off season - feeling like he's done as much as he can with the side. 51': GOAL. GWBu 2-1 RIS. And now the Bulls take the lead against Royal Issington, cutting Issington further adrift in the play-off race and keeping the Bulls safely out of the relegation zone.
52': Tolgus Tregajorran is just an absolute stormer of a human. He was an excellent player, and he is excellently entertaining as a manager. He's pretty good as a manager, sure, but his gesticulating in the technical area is quite something. Jhon Mercurier misses a shot on goal and in the ensuing carnage on the touchline, Tregajorran somehow manages to take off his jacket from his arm waving and shouting.
53': GOAL. URB 2-0 MUL. Urbanista are really getting going now, Erhan Gracie crossing a ball in for Ettie Hezekiah to head home for their second of the game.
54': GOAL. FCH 2-2 DWW. Cassiopeia gets her 11th goal of the season, dancing past challenges by Hedwig Schelin and Edmund Autumn before powering one past Baldwin in goal. Harpoon slip back into the relegation zone with that goal. What's more, it doesn't look like it is going to be Dwile's last goal of the game...
55': Azewyn Royals just had a bit of a scare there, Uxminster Athletic now pressing hard. They will need something from this game to stay in the ANL Play-off positions.
56': GOAL. AVA 3-1 DWY. BAF 4-0 URC. Two aggressively minded teams increasing their goal hauls.
57': Wofford Town vs FC Endeavour has got pretty bogged down in a midfield battle, with the skilful personnel of Endeavour unable to find a way through. With Endeavour now down in fifth, Reinhard Shale doesn't look pleased on the touchline.
59': GOAL. WIT 0-1 MAN. Mandon United score thanks to Jokin Mork's converted penalty. They now move up to 4th, and into the ANL play-off places. Nelson Horatio looks pleased as punch on the sidelines.
60': Dwile Warriors continue to batter the Harpoon goal and Harpoon have had to resort to just bringing down the Warriors players to stop attacks. Even with foul rotation, they are running out of yellow cards that can be handed out.
61': Close yet again from Urbanista Young Boys. Surely a goal can't be far away?
62': GOAL. BOU 2-0 ETC. BAF 5-0 URC. Bouldertown increase their advantage over Etchilhampton, while Barbury Fjellraven's continue to stick the boot into Urchfont Aggressors. They must be safe in the ANL2 by now.
63': Brimstone come close yet again against Wrexton F.C somehow keep them out. They are safe at the moment, but a no score draw is not a comfortable place to be.
64': GOAL. WRX 1-0 FCB. SPOKE TOO SOON! Wrexton score against the run of play, Artemis Kyser unleashing Avington Daniels on the counter, he squares to Skye Dyer and she slots past the now out of position Joaquin Doyle to score. Now Brimstone slip back into the relegation zone!
65': GOAL. FCH 2-3 DWW. AFC 1-1 EXT. Oh, but Dwile Warriors score a third, this time Nick James the scorer! This puts Harpoon back in the relegation zone! (And AFC United of Cierbanor score an equaliser, but we don't massively care about that).
66': Meanwhile, in Wofford, a fox has gotten onto the field at the tiny Wofford Athletics Centre they play on whilst their main stadium is being rebuilt. Yes, it's been that sort of game.
68': Changes happening across all the leagues, especially in Cawln. We are beginning to enter the end game on a very entertaining day, although there may yet be more surprises.
69': Egloskerry are down to 9 players left on the field now, with James West losing his head and having an expletive filled rant at the ref. Probably the last time he'll be playing in the top tier for a while though, so you can see why he's frustrated.
70': GOAL. CAW 1-1 SKJ. It's not over yet for Skjoll, as they drag one back against the Wanderers. They've still surrendered the top spot to Azewyn, but another goal and they'll clinch the title.
71': GOAL. BEO 0-1 URY. Urbanista Young Boys finally have their goal - the big surprise is just that it took 71 minutes to get it. This shuffles Gwinevra Bulls into the ANL2 relegation zone, after the heroics of the Fjellravens in getting 5 goals in their game.
72': There is definitely a bit of a frantic air in a number of games by now. Things are delicately poised.
73': GOAL. ODM 2-1 BAR. In a most relaxed ground to be in, Joan Vickers has just scored for Oldem Mechanical, keeping them nicely at arms length from the chaos of the relegation battle below.
74': GOAL. CAL 1-0 URBt. Calshott finally have their goal! This puts them top of the ANL2. Larissa Vilhajalmsson scores coolly past the keeper to give them the crucial difference. Azewyn Royals will now have to score a bucketload to retake the lead, though Skjoll Premier can go clear at the top if they can find a winner against Cawln Wanderers.
75': GOAL. ODM 2-2 BAR. AVA 4-1 DWY. A couple of other games get some more goals, Aldo Vocani bagging his seventeenth of the season, a record for him, while Avenida Apox get their fourth.
76': The pressure is back on at Azewyn, a couple of substitutions sees them playing a super aggressive 3-3-4 formation. They will need to score another four now to better Calshott's goal difference.
78': GOAL. FCH 3-3 DWW. AFC 1-2 EXT. Oh hang on, FC Harpoon have somehow got a third, massively against the run of play. Valentina Perry's shanked shot is deflected in off the back of a visibly confused Etzy Dialogue. This brings about yet another change at the bottom of the table, Brimstone going back into the relegation zone.
80': GOAL. GWBu 2-2 RIS. Gwinevra Bulls are likely to be going down to the third tier with that goal, Fabian Barnett finding space there to squeeze that goal in.
81': Brimstone are furiously looking for an equaliser in Wrexton, with their ANL status hanging perilously by a thread.
82': GOAL. GWBa 4-0 WYE. And the Barbarians have a fourth, Wye United have been largely dreadful all game so it's little surprise, Archibald Koyaanisqatsi teed up there by Eneka Hexmark.

85': GOAL. FCH 3-4 DWW. And Dwile have another goal! Back into the relegation zone slide FC Harpoon, not for the first time this season have they let slip a multi-goal lead. What a final day this has been.
87': GOAL. GWBu 2-3 RIS. And another goal for Royal Issington, fully condemning Gwinevra Bulls to the relegation zone now. Time is almost up.
88': GOAL. EGL 0-3 ODK. Oldem Knights finally manage to get a third against an Egloskerry side reduced to 9, Wisdom Mochan the substitute scoring the late goal. Egloskerry will drop out of the ANL the way they played in it this season. Ill-disciplined, unorganised and with no threat in front of goal. Their magical ability to stay up with a squad that was largely dross has expired.
90': And that's it! What a final day, with FC Harpoon and FC Brimstone falling into and climbing out of the relegation zone multiple times respectively and the top of the ANL2 being just as exciting.

Marshall Cup Final
FC Endeavour 0-1 Gwinevra Barbarians

In front of a capacity crowd in the Stadium of Apox, a Marshall Cup final between two heavyweights of the game played out. It was a pretty cagey affair, with both teams playing pretty much full strength line-ups. Initially, the attacking thrust of each team cancelled out the other, but the Barbarians eased themselves into the game and soon were the more assertive side. Eventually, in the 54th minute, it would be Archibald Koyaanisqatsi's lofted through ball which Inga Puffin rose to head home which would be the difference between the two sides. It was a fitting end to a Gwinevra management career for Chris Maarsden, who had been wildly successful as manager of the club.

The Mareibat Premier comes shambling back for a fourth season. Once again Halholzer United are the favourites for the title, but wait what's this?! Bellight FC and Harmonica Tundra have both gone fully professional in the off season and with Pilgrimage and Teol United becoming semi-professional as well, the standard of play might be marginally better than dreadful this time around. Although that's probably the ceiling for the standard of the league for the forseeable future, with Mareibat still as cash strapped as ever. Scraglet Rovers, having amassed just ten points all of last season will have upped their small islander status this seaon - hopefully they will manage to pick up a win this season!

Halholzer United defied anyone - literally anyone - who might have argued that the league is becoming less of a procession by sweeping all in front of them to gain their fifth straight title - this title by an enormous 11 points over surprise package Bellight Wanderers who beat out heated locals rivals Bellight FC and newly professionalised Harmonica Tundra to get the "best of the rest" prize this season. Pilgrimage continue to teeter on the edge of a return to UICA, the club always just struggling to get over the line - especially this season with Roy Tobin moving to Bellight FC halfway through after a poor start to the season for them.

Cape of Hope FC have overperformed in recent years, and will be a little disappointed to only get 7th place this season, while the good project developing over in Teol took a hit as they struggled to eighth. Below them are all the usual suspects, although give it up for Scraglet Rovers! After not recording a single win all season last time out, they managed to get six wins in the bag and finished 12th, with Halholzer Spitfires continuing to be an absolute mess in finishing rock bottom.
