Gemini Games 2

Welcome
Welcome to the 2nd Gemini Games of the Sovereign Charter, hosting right now in Oceanion sponsored by GTR & The Scribbler. We bring you the Sovereign Charter's first global rally, bringing competitors from around the world to race on a series of off-road and urban tracks around Oceanion for the best times.

We bring you 14 rallies on everything from snow capped mountains to dense forests, to beach excursions, to a city run through Oceanion's Capital city. Strictly speaking this is a Sovereign Charter role-play so only SC national teams can compete, but "private" teams are welcome (just to be clear that means everyone).

So what happens?
The 14 rallies have a number of 'stages' on these Drivers and their teams compete to finish the stages in a quick a time as possible sometimes to within 1/100th of a second. A co-driver assists with navigation during the rally.

The rallies follow the same routine, including a few days of practice at a restricted speed to check out what they're up against ahead of the big day. Then a full speed practice day followed by the competition proper running for the next few days before moving onto the next rally.

Each Rally takes several days and racers are permitted to make stops at designated areas for repairs, for a set time period being either 15, 40 or 60 minutes long. During the race itself, away from the service point only the drivers and co-drivers can work on the vehicle with whatever tools they have onboard.

Rewards and Penalties
Points are allocated to the top ten finishers on a 3/4 reducing basis, with 2nd place receiving only three quarters of the 20 points the winner (who wins the Rally) receives (rounded up). Points are deducted if visits to the designated service area exceed the allotted times and penalties are also given to teams that don't get to the check points in time.

    OOC
Times are decided by the host by way of a scorinator, finishing times are reduced for those that role-play from the previous posts.
Posting should take no more than a week after which the next stage will begin.
Please do not contradict these results.
The Host may vary or adjust these guidelines to suit the needs of the role-play.

Team bio: Following a short and unsuccesful stint in WGPC spec racing, Petrovijanka racing turned to rally forming the Petrovijanka Rally Team. Rally
        1st. Douglas Plains
          Location: Douglas · Type: Moorland / Dirt · Stages: 3 · Length: 1852km
Taking place in central Douglas, Oceanion, the opening rally Stage 1: 472km takes advantage of the rolling plains and the rocky outcrops creating some spectacular corners and observation areas for viewers alike. It is a challenging but fast paced down hill course, that starts from the highest point of the plains between two rock formations, winding its way down through bogs (don't come off the track!) before emerging into a dusty slalom. Stage two 627km, carries along the plains, but makes use of a number of country roads through a small hamlet, before turning into a farmers corn field before emerging onto a windswept precipice adorned with wind turbines. The final part 753km of the stage is a steep descent down winding rocky roads

          Difficulties
Mostly unsealed road surfaces, during Oceanion's Spring season, meaning unpredictable weather patterns, particularly unexpected torrential rainfalls, possible snowfall in remote areas.
Drivers should expect wet, muddy surfaces mixed with dry rocky surfaces sometimes all at the same time.

          Results:
1st Rally Overall Winner: VMR - 44 Points
            Stage 1 - Winner WTR - 04:17:10:12
            Stage 2 - Winner VMR - 04:17:46.84
            Stage 3 - Winner TTR - 07:31:36.97

        2nd. New Gloucester Inter-city
Location: New Gloucester, Oceanion · Type: Country lanes / City · Stages: 3 · Length: 1884km
Unusually for a rally there are more sealed than unsealed surfaces however the New Gloucester Inter-city rally course still holds a series of challenges and begins in a major coastal city in the west. Stage 1: 611km is a course that takes a hilly and meandering coastal route around the outskirts of the city with narrow lanes and high hedges, in places stone walls and other places clear providing excellent views thanks to a notorious 150m plunge off the steep cliffs only a few meters away from the track. A brief down hill followed by fording a small river then takes the driver across the mudflats of the estuary, up a sharp ascending hill before a long steep descent back into the city across a high suspension bridge.

Stage 2: 544km takes the drivers along winding country roads that are open in places across vast plains but also narrow in others. Drivers will have to watch out for parked trailers and other obstacles. The track has a number of dips in the road on corners that will force drivers to drift for extended periods if they wish to maintain speed else destroy parts of the vehicle. A number of bridges also obscure the view of some of these descents and the road ahead. The drivers will then depart the road taking a short cut through a small woodland area, where the road is mostly a form of unmaintained cobbles. Exiting the wooded area the drivers emerge at a sharp 90° left hand turn onto a long straight main road. This road is followed into a small village that follows an intricate S shaped pattern. A very narrow right hand turn takes the drivers off the road again, back onto cobbles between two walls before emerging into a hairpin 170° corner back onto a main road up onto the three laned thorough way where drivers can fully exploit the speed of their vehicle.

Stage 3: 729km The final leg of the journey that follows the thorough-way for some kilometres before taking drivers off down to a large round-a-about shooting off to the right into a semi-residential area, complete with chicanes and road narrowing. Wide corners are interspersed with crests, dips and a number of sharper turns. This leads out of the semi-residential area and back into country lanes that descend quickly to follow a river. A right turn then takes the drivers into the river to ford it up to the next crossing up and out of the river on the other side, following a muddy dirt track into an industrial estate. Long straights and 90° corners are prevalent here but the road out leads straight onto a slip road, across a bridge that is partly opened, drivers must jump. This then leads into a winding down hill route that leads around the back of the city before entering the main route in, the final straight, into the city centre. However there is a last surprise in store for our drivers as they must race through the city shopping centre, usually pedestrianized and descend a series of steps to emerge out of the other side to the finish line. Precision is a must any damage will be charged to the teams.

          Results:
            1st Rally:
            Stage 1 - Winner WTR - 04:14:08.35
            Stage 2 - Winner TTR - 7:31:36.97
            Stage 3 - Winner WTR - 04:14:08.35

            2nd Rally:
            Stage 1 - Winner NNC - 06:37:50.53

    PRESS RELEASE
    The Scribbler

The 2nd Gemini Games of the Sovereign Charter have formally been announced, to be hosted in Oceanion, a long standing member of the Sovereign Charter. Each Gemini Games has held only an individual sport at one time, show casing the finest athletes from around the world in a variety of events. This time around, the event is a rally championship on both sealed and unsealed surfaces careering through Oceanion's most dramatic landscape features.

GTR have formally announced their sponsorship of the organization and along with various governments offering support have committed to funding the the entire event. This is an unprecedented move in the Sovereign Charter as most often organizations have chosen to stay out of sporting event advertisement, often because they have rarely been asked for funding in the first place, with most nations funding sporting events in their entirety, until now. Furthermore, we at The Scribbler, national newspaper of the Sovereign Charter, have also announced our sponsorship of the Rally and we will be conducting the press releases on behalf of the Gemini Games.

Registrations have at last been opened and we at The Scribbler have been informed that there will be two leagues, a Major League where all contestant details will be entered and a National League where Sovereign Charter national teams will be entered, giving Sovereign Charter teams two chances to win the top spots and take home the maximum amount of prize money. The registrations are simple, organizations should fill in an application form and send it (post it in the thread) to the Gemini Games Application Committee and as long as you have a car and contestants you'll be allowed to compete.

Once all applications have been closed (seven days from now) the Rally will begin and all contestants are encouraged to begin contributing as soon as their application has been accepted.

    PRESS RELEASE
    The Wyvern Times

With the announcement of the 2nd Gemini Games of the Sovereign Charter being announced as well as its host location and sport. The Nation is abuzz with the prospect of competing in what is widely regarded as the most prestigious competition in the world! Iryllia's top Rally team, the Red Wyvern Rally team has announced their intention to compete in the games, not long after beating their rival team in the Iryllian Rally championship! RWR knocked out the Millenium Rally Team in the last stretch of the race, narrowly securing the top spot in the nation and taking home the championship trophy for the fourth time in a row.

The PR team manager was contacted by our interview team, shortly after their announcement to compete in the games. Gunther Bolkov had this to say on the matter:
"We feel very strongly in our decision to compete in the games, not just for personal gain, but as an opportunity to represent Iryllia on the world stage."

An Iryllian National News team (INN) will be covering the races as they occur, as well as behind the scenes interviews on the crews and the cars.

"Haha! Have you seen zhis news article zhey vrote about us!" Wilhelm chuckled, throwing the news paper down with a flop onto the coffee stained table. "I do zhink zhey could have been more flattering zho..." Gunther picked up the paper and gave it a flick through, "Not a single picture of us... Understandable with your face but still, I talked for half an hour to those guys and they just picked one line!"
"Ack! Zhis iz all just zhe state propaganda! Zhey just vant to make Iryllia look good! Zhey don't care about us at all!" Wilhelm laughed his booming laugh again "Vhe shall zee vhat zhey have to say vhen vee bring home zhe cup! Aha! Haha!" Wilhelm picked up a cup of coffee, downing it swiftly. Gunther just shook his head, turning to Alexis who was sitting in a tattered armchair, reading his own copy of the paper. "What do you think man?" Alexis looked up slowly, shrugged, "It's not all that important, just blather. Getting to visit Oceanion is nice, I have an uncle who lives there" Gunther shrugged, turning back to Wilhelm who was dabbing coffee out of his beard with a handkerchief. "Wilhlem, just, I want to make sure you understand is all."
    "About vhat!?"
"I don't want you to make a scene while we're out there alright? Remember what happened at last years IRC."
    "Zhey had it coming!"
"Yes, we don't deny that, but don't go causing any international incidents alright?"
"Ack! Zhis is all in good fun! Haha!" Wilhelm laughed again, Gunther sagged in his chair, rubbing his temple while Alexis rustled the newspaper slightly.

The event this year? A cross-country rally. Our field team was granted access to the team's training and maintenance area at the General Motors Division to learn more. "

Field: "With me here today is Lieutenant Syron, Media Liaison to the Myraxian State Rally team; Sergeant Sykana, Lead Driver for the same, and Major Calyrn, of the General Motors Division. Myraxian State, we are informed, is the team that will be representing Myraxia internationally at the games. Gentlemen, good afternoon. "
    Syron:" Afternoon. "
Field: "So, Major. I'm told your team is responsible for developing the vehicle that Sergeant Sykana will be driving in the games. What can you tell us about it? "
Calyrn: "Well, I can tell you with confidence that it should outperform anything it meets in Oceanion next month. "
Field: "Promising words. And Lieutenant, how would you rate our team's chances against the other professional teams that will be competing? "
Syron: "If Red Snow has taught us anything, it is that Myraxian strength of will has the ability to overpower anything the south can throw at us. I see no reason this should not hold true here as well. "
"Thank you, gentlemen. Field out. "

This looks interesting, but before I submit a lenghty and complicated signup. I have a couple of questions for the host:

1: What Scorinator are you using? Not because I'm grumpy and suspicious, but because I haven't yet seen a rally scorinator and if there is one, we can do this kind of thing more often.

2: Would you be open to having rounds in different countries similar to the WGPC, but with rally instead of open-wheel racing?

    Thanks!

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=297549 - The (outdated) Vannish Motors page

Vannish Motors is a car company that is known internationally for two cars. There is a medium-end luxury sedan called the Roland as well as a V-12 Supercar called the Ghost. The company has been pushing to get involved on the racing scene. Vannish Motors is currently trying to secure a team for the upcoming WGPC season.

The WGPC is an international, open-wheeled racing league. It's known for being the who's who for international racers. While negotiations for the upcoming WGPC season are still upcoming, Vannish Motors managed to secure a car and a driver for the Gemini Games - Cross Rally Championships.

"We are proud to compete in this rally event", said Jennifer Vatt. She was the spokesperson sent to represent the car company for the media. "We are also happy to reveal our driver for this series, Jessica Franssen."

Jessica was fresh off a huge rookie season in the WGPC. She completed half of the races as the average driver, only 6. In that time, she won half of her races. She dominated those last six races, scoring more points than any other driver. Of course, it was too late for her to have a chance at the cup. But she finished 4th. She bumped her team up to 2nd.

"I'm coming off a major season", Franssen told reporters. "But this rally is going to be different. I've done a lot of open-wheel stuff in my time. I haven't done as much rally. I'm looking to get Vannish Motors and my sponsor Van-Bands as much airtime as I can."

Vangazi sports fans were currently swept away with Jessica. There would be a major interest in her rally career. With Vangaziland losing in both the World Lacrosse Championships and the International Basketball Championships, Vannish fans would be looking for someone to root for.

Joining Jessica inside the Astro would be Dale Everson. He made a name for himself in the amateur rally circuit in Vangaziland. It seemed natural for Vannish Motors to offer him a contract. He should prove to be an experienced navigator, wise in the ways of rally.

"Vannish Motors has hand-picked all our staff", Vatt continued. "We think all the right people are in place."

As for the car, they chose to base their product on a car that will soon be exported starting in 2017. The Astro is a small to midsize sedan. There are various engine options available to the public. But the race version went with a turbocharged version of their inline-5.

Vatt spoke for the engineers when she said, "We chose to go with the I-5 mainly for it's fuel economy. We could have went with the I-6, but we get plenty out of the I-5."

The VMR is tricked out with the latest in rally suspension and equipment. The mechanics will be constantly paying attention to gear ratios, downforce and the adjustable ride height, in addition to numerous other factors.

Derrick Okoye spoke on behalf of the mechanic team. "We are prepared for just about anything. We expect the worst. We've got plenty of spare parts and lots of funding. Big-wigs at Vannish Motors want to see this car do well."

In truth, a big part of this event was set to showcase the Astro to international markets. It wasn't a bad option for anyone who wanted their own personal rally/touring car. Of course the production variants would be somewhat detuned. The base model would come with a 4-cylinder, the top model would come with an Inline 6. In between, would be the Inline 5. It wouldn't come with a turbocharger, at least not right away.

As always, Jessica was given the lecture by Vannish Empire officials on how she was to carry herself. She was reminded that all Vannish athletes performing on an international stage are considered diplomats. She was to show good sportsmanship at all times. They even brought up a few of her fist pumps after winning WGPC races. They told her she's allowed to do that, but that the government would like to see her tone it down a bit.

But Jessica didn't let that get to her.

"I'm here to race. Dale and I will take it checkpoint by checkpoint. It's going to be tough. But hopefully it'll work out."

    Hi,

Firstly thanks for your question. I haven't found a "scorinator" either and ones that I thought might work have turned out...not to work on my system. (Koranate?) Apparently it doesn't agree with Wine. Instead I have had to develop my own in the form of a LibreCalc sheet. (Similar to Excel, just better value for money). What this means is that due to the random number generator that I use, is that it's not really exportable unfortunately. Well, that...and the fact that this will be its first real test run so I don't know how it's going to work out initially.

Your second question is one that I have already considered and re-considered after making this thread. This time around I'm sticking with Oceanion, that includes all the stages as grabbing permission from all the different countries, is such a hassle... however the next time I do this and there will be a next time, I will be sure to invite countries to submit their own Rally designs for their own countries for inclusion.

    Finally, what lengthy and complicated sign up? O_o;;

That all sounds good. My signups can sometimes be a bit messy, it's not your fault.

Edvin's door was pounded at 9 AM in the morning. The violent knocking continued and got increasingly louder, preventing Edvin from sleeping past it. Finally, in a fit of rage, he slumped out of bed and, putting on his most disgusted face, he opened it.

    "EDVIN!" yelled an ecstatic Terho.

"What do you want?!" barked Edvin, irritated.

"Jessica Franssen just sent me the details of an upcoming rally! We've already got a team, a car, everything!"

Edvin's eyes lit up. As if he were injected with a hefty dose of caffeine, he suddenly regained lucidity.

    "What? Really?"

"Yes! I've scheduled a test day up in Vakkerimaa. We'll meet the team manager, the mechanics, get to know the car and hop back into the rallying action."

"You never asked me if I wanted to."

Terho grunted, and then said mockingly, "Do you want to?"

    "Of course!"

The pair set off for Vakkerimaa that evening. Upon arrival, they met team manager Mikkel Nikkanen and both mechanics, who would be accompanying them as a team to the Douglas Plains rally.

Terho strapped on his old rallying helmet, still shiny, and climbed into the new Fox Hornet R. Before putting on his gloves he ran his fingers through the suede covered steering wheel. Outside, the Arctic summer still carried a chilling breeze, although that particular day was warmed than usual. Some rain had fallen at noon; together with abnormally "high" temperatures most of the snow on the test stage had melted. Cold puddles and frozen ruts remained, however, although they were rare.

He buckled himself in, tightening the racing belt really hard. He jammed his hands into his racing gloves. Edvin entered the car in an awkward manner, just as he'd done, and firmly tucked himself in, pacenotes at hand.

Before starting the test Terho scanned the turquoise bonnet, plastered with a Nortec logo. They were a private manufacturer team after all. Still, the car looked stunning from all angles. The livery was miles better than it had been in the NRC a few years back.

Mikkel appeared on the driver's side and knocked on the window. Terho slid open the little slat to hear his boss' comments. When he finished, Mikkel trod to the front of the Hornet, looked at it, nodded, and then trudged to Edvin's side. Leaning over the bonnet, he petted it, and began his count-down.

    3...

    2...

    1...

Terho dropped the clutch and released the handbrake to the rhythm of Edvin's pacenotes. Mud and dirt kicked up behind them in a spectacular fashion, blocking the exhaust as it backfired. The car was the best thing Terho had ever driven, and as he shattered thin layers of ice over freezing puddles and rutted the terrain below him, he couldn't help but smile. He was back at it, what he loved the most.

    Rallying.

Designed, built and modified in Mattijana, the Xhaka Jalanza S3 was made with sportyness in mind for buyers whilst the good aerodynamics and sharp accelerating and braking make it perfect for racing. The car excels on tarmac, but can be used to good effect on all surfaces providing the route isn't too twisty thanks to sufficient modifications to the axel and suspension. Twisty stages on ice or dirt are probably the main weakness of the car due to it's shape and downforce meaning it is difficult to flick around.

Team bio: Following a short and unsuccesful stint in WGPC spec racing, Petrovijanka racing turned to rally forming the Petrovijanka Rally Team. Thwy were somewhat more succesful there, coming second in their debut domestic season and winning the next two consecutive seasons making them the ideal choice for the Gemini Games.
Jasmin Kranška is a confident driver in most forms of racing and widely regarded as one of the two world class drivers in Mattijana.

Reconnaissance is permitted for the first stage with a restricted speed of 60kph. Use this chance to get an advantage before the full races

    PRESS RELEASE
    The Scribbler

The registrations have not yet closed but already the contestants have been permitted access to the Wiley Plains of Douglas Oceanion to review the course and make as many notes as they can. While the shortest of the three stages, Stage 1 also known as the Wiley Gambit has some of the more challenging features if not downright scary features of the entire rally. The rolling plains make for an easy ride but the rocky outcrops not to mention a few very close cliff edge corners bring a dimension of control that might not otherwise be expected from such a course.

The course holds numerous difficult to harsh corners with incremental crests to really hammer home the levels of concentration required for the xRally. During the day, contestants will have to watch out for sun glare and sporadic showers as the weather for the next few weeks looks to be increasingly unsettled.

Observers will be able to view much of the first stage from above, thanks to the down hill nature and natural rock formations, though Gemini Games have issued guidance advising observers to stay well back of the course at any rate due to the potential risks of a car losing control for whatever reason.

As Timo Beniani arrived at the car, Uwe Neuberger and Mattia DiMagiari were doing something with the cars engine. He didn't know what they did, and he didn't care anyways. He doesn't know much about the technical aspects of the car, that's what his co-driver is there for. And for navigation, of course, althought Timo usually says he could navigate himself way better than the co-driver does. Reporters often ask him how he could be West-East Timors best rallye driver, when he didn't even know how his car works. He always tells them that he's West-East Timors best rallye driver, as they said before, and not the omnidirectional republic's best technician. Always. That's the reason why they don't ask him anymore.

"Morning, guys", he said,"morning, Andy. So, where's Felix?"

"Oh, Felix Maniéros isn't your co-driver this time.", answered Andy Kashnan. "This guy will be your co-driver." He pointed at Maximilian Malkanova.

"Good morning!", Malkanova said. "So, you are this guy who claims to be West-East Timor's bes rallye driver?"

"Yes, that's me. And who are you?", asked Beniani.

"I'm West-East Timors best co-driver, Maximilian Malkanova. You can call me Max."

"So, if you're our best co-driver, why haven't I ever met you before?"

"We have met several times! Rallye Janor-Norgrobi for example, where you've won against Danilo Wlakashtinow by 0.008 seconds. I was his co-driver."

"Alright then. And you're a good technician?"

"I'm West-East Timor's best car engineer as well!"

"Nope, that's me.", said Mattia DiMagiari.

"You're both wrong. That's me. So, Timo, the car's ready and when..." Uwe Neuberger was interrupted by Andy Kashnan: "Hey, look who's here! I've invited this guy as a guest."

"Hey, Mick! How are you? I haven't seen you for a long time.", said Timo.

"Well, I've been testing the...you know the machine we're testing. Well, I've been testing it a lot. It's a fantastic car, I'm shure I'll be able to get on the podium next year.", answered Mick Schramm.

"I'd like to race in something like that too, but I guess I'm better rallye driver.", said Timo Beniani. "That's why I use other cars than you."

"Yeah, I see. It looks nice. It looks like a winning car, If you ask me."

"Yep, WETtech have done a pretty good job with this one.", said Max. "So you are Mick Schramm. It's a honour to meet you."

    "Morning. That's your co-driver?"

    "Yes, that's..."

"Timo!", shouted Neuberger. "The car's ready. You can and should drive now. To get to know the track and the car a bit, you know? You can talk to mr. Schramm later as well."

"Oh, no, but I have to go now anyways. I hear Terho Talvela should be driving here, but was replaced?"

    "Yes, that's right."

"It's a shame he was replaced, I would have liked to talk some words to him. But ok. Good bye, and good luck!" With that, Schramm went away.

"But Jessica Franssen is hear!", shouted Timo as he remembered that.

"Nah, I don't like her. She has stolen a possible seat in WGPC for me. Bye."

"Well, then. Let's get in the car and drive a bit! I have to drive over there and then down there and there I can drive than, I guess?", Timo said.

"Yes", answered Max,"and then I can write in this nice book."

"I don't need some numbers to know when there's a corner ahead! I won't forget to turn!", said Timo.

"No, but you'll get off the track."

    They got in the car.

"Ok, so Max knows how the car works and Timo, you know how to drive. You must not drive faster than 60 km/h.", remembered Uwe Neuberger. "And now I'll leave you alone, I'm shure you know what you're doing."

GEMINI GAMES II: CROSS RALLY CHAMPIONSHIPS

One of the biggest off-road car racing tournament has officially begun with the host nation, Enfaru allowing reconnaissance of the racing track at approximately 60 kilometers per hour. This is the first time Cheongji is participating in this tournament; however, the team is confident in the engine and the horsepower of their car, which has been made solely by Jian technology. The Genesis Sports edition has been known for its high horsepower of 260 as well as the incredibly short time of the car travelling from 0 to 60 kilometers per hour: 4.5 seconds.

Driver Ma Jeong Yong is rather excited than nervous to participate in this event: "Our team will strive to become the best in off-road racing and to represent Cheongji as a powerhouse of racing sports."

Omnidirectional News - West-East Timors new news thing

Gemini Games II have begun - WETtech best choice

The Cross Rallye Championship Gemini Games II have officaly begun when reconaissance was permitted and the teams got access to the Wiley Plains in Douglas Oceanion, and finally we've got a West-East Timorian team and driver in international motorsport. The West-East Timorian Rallye star Timo Beniani and co-driver Maximilian Malkanova are going to drive the fantastic WETtech WTR30. In it's predecessor, the WTR20, Timo Beniani won against WETmotors RWT02 in the last edition of the prestigious Rallye Janor-Norgrobi, which tells a lot more about the actual power of the car than the West-East Timorian Rallye Championship(WETRC).

    The fantastic WETtech WTR30

Timo Breniani, who drives for WETtech WETRC and Rallye Janor-Norgrobi said:

"First, I'm really honoured to be the first West-East Timorian racing driver to participate in international motorsport, though I have to say that my frien Mick [Schramm] could have done it earlier. I'm shure I can make our country proud, I mean, motorsport still is West-East Timors national sport, isn't it. Also, I want to thank my team who made this possible. They have built a brilliant car, and I'm shure we can win some stages in it."
