THE STORY OF PROJECT +90 NEW SIDEBURN - Part Four
"Anyway," says Pallister, "after I got promotion with the lads and lasses I had, it was time to expand the group available to me. Me and my scouts already had our eyes out on some young talents, and we wanted them to have good chemistry with the team well before the Project Cup."
Elsa Layland and Paul Bismarck were both locals, and Pallister had grown to know both personally. "They came to watch all the games together - little teenage sweethearts, they were." Pallister chuckles - clearly the weathered veteran still has some room for sentimentality. "They were both talented, but neither was contracted - Layland was going to be picked up by the Chatswood academy, but an injury had put paid to that. Still, anyone who went to see them play could tell they could do a job, and Elsa had recovered a month ago. We picked them both up off the street five weeks before the season ended, even if we weren't allowed to sign them for the 'senior' team yet."
Steed Corren was the third local they signed, and his performances in the Project +90 Cup would go on to establish him as the Project's No. 1. "He was a Chatswood academy player, but frustrated at the lack of chances he was getting. They were okay with letting him go, and their loss was our gain."
But perhaps the brightest talent was the one they swept out from under South Laithland's nose - Auburn Tarrant, a farmer's daughter on the Laith, and a fierce attacking midfielder or right winger with an eye for goal. South Laithland and the Extreme Hills both wanted her, but her head was turned at the last second when she found out she could get consistent first-team football in the Second Division. "Auburn was special," said Pallister firmly, "anyone could see that from the start. She's got the ability, and more than that the personality to make it at a high level. The girl's got national team potential in her, I'll tell you and I'll tell anyone else the same."
More bargains followed - Brinemouth expected an overflowing crop of youths, and generously offered Pallister the chance to attend personally. "That's where Mike [Arrowsmith] and Kieran [Ritter] showed up - Brinemouth didn't sign either of them to longer contracts, and decided to give us the second option, because they believed in the Project." Tanith Sutcliff? "Slipped between the cracks of the two big Cranequin clubs - Rook [Given, a scout] saw her representing her school in the state championships, would you believe, when he was seeing his own lad play. Most of the time you have to go to the big clubs - but we came in there first. Sometimes you just need a bit of luck." And that left Michael Kellard, perhaps the most intriguing story of them all.
The 18-year old centreforward had been a bustling centreforward and a promising product of the Rhagant Schadenfreude academy. But he became disillusioned with the game after a few setbacks, and quit to become a carpenter. "So I hear this story from a local in the pub, would you believe, of how this kid was going to be great for Rhagant. Three-month thigh injury, the club stops respecting him, they think he'll be a failed product. But he comes back and keeps firing, but he's disillusioned, and he quits to focus on his apprenticeship full-time. So I tracked the guy down and spoke to him personally, one-on-one. Wanted him in the squad. Free ride to the Sunrise Islands, eh? He said he'd give it a shot."
When the team touched down in the Northern Sunrise Islands to contest the very first Project +90 Cup, they knew they were in with a shot. Still - the undeniable favourites were the home team, +90 NSI itself. Asked how he pulled out the victory against them, and five other teams that tournament, Pallister just laughs. "Don't you think we're running out of time for that, lad?"
We are. So I keep it simple. A closing statement; where do you see the Project in five years?
"Better appreciated, more prestigious and a Second Division mainstay." Pallister allowed himself a grin. "And, of course, still with me at the helm here."
The old ways were best!

Original nation behind Nephara. New Sideburn now symbolises an ideal, rather than a nation.

Di Bradini Cup
Van Silver's Take

Well we managed a win and a tie since my last addition, sorry I had a personal matter to attend to and couldn’t get to my writing for a bit. But rest assured that I haven’t forgotten about this Di Bradini Cup and the excellent youngsters we have representing our beautiful HopNation. Just to recap we were on our bye day and then played two matches since last time. We faced the host Starblaydia and came way with a good win, 2-0, over them and were looking good sitting in first for our group. Then we played Chiata and couldn’t get much going against a side who had been sitting on two losses. We conceded the most goals yet and ended with a draw, 2-2. This leaves us with a 2/1 goal ratio after three games played and still has us sitting in a great spot to advance, but our work isn’t done yet as we play the team nipping at our heals next, Cassadaigua. Though we respect the ladies in pink we feel the Fillies will be falling in this upcoming match. I’d go into more details on our chances and the other group members and how it might all pan out, but fellow group mate Ko-oren already reported on that. So, if you want a great overview of what can happen in our group depending on the three different outcomes for the HopNation/Cassadaigua match then please redirect your attention HERE. I think that they covered the information very well, better than I probably could for sure.

With that lets look at what I think will happen in our match versus the Fillies; I see Droimpol playing well once again with the oppositions midfield (Perkins, Lowenstein, Ellis, and Jackson) struggling to contain him and the other Little Hoppers midfielders. I think Schytaing scores twice and Droimpol scores once, but we have some defensive struggles and allow another two goals to be scored on us, but in the end we still win with a final score of 3-2.

I for one will be glued to my seat during this match as it could mean we move on or we go home, good luck to both sides and to all those vying for a spot in the next round.

Unti next time!
Sullivan Van Silver

U21s NEED TO WIN TO QUALIFY

Kernansquillec's under 21 side were in action once again last night in the Di Bradini Cup. Up against the minnows from The Royal Kingdom of Quebec it seemed an easy task on paper and it was proved to be a routine win for the Green and Whites in a game that they dominated from start to finish. Lilac showed his skill once again hitting the crossbar early on from a long range strike. Just minutes later he skipped past his marker before slicing the ball back for the captain Noupen to tap in from 10 yards out. Long periods of possession followed but a combination of admiral defending, the woodwork and wayward shots saw the score stay at one nil until half-time.

The second half saw the scoring resume however, with Noupen grabbing herself a second with a close ranger header from another Lilac cross as the NOULI combination once again provided results. By then the game was all but over given how the Green Stallions were dominating proceedings and the win was sealed with two strikes from Marie Iris making it a female foursome of goals for the Kers.

Van der Pon should be happy with the performance but it could well come to nothing at the end of the day as qualification to the knock-out rounds is far from sealed. Equestrian States' spot was sealed before their game against New Sideburn, and it showed as the favourites lost to the Magpies to set up a one game showdown between themselves and Kernansquillec for that final spot in the last 16. New Sideburn hold the advantage, being a point clear of the Kers in second place and a draw would do them just fine. However Kernansquillec can take comfort that bar that opening game against Equestrian States they have dominated their other matches. The Kers also have the best defensive record in the group, conceding their three goals in that one game against Equestrian States. Only a win would see them though, a two goal win would also be good enough to take first place from Equestrian States.

The Magpies have been a solid outfit so far, playing a similar style to that of Kernansquillec, thought they prefer wing play to Kernansquillec more patient approach. Wingers Rutger Connacht and Tanya Bottlegreen will provide a tough test for Hugo Gashotov and Mary Cressac. The two full backs have been playing well so far but the battle of the wings will probably decide the outcome of the match. Connacht and Bottlegreen both play in New Sideburn's top division and have a lot of experience for players of their age, arguably more than Gashotov and Cressac.

1-1. A win here was barely a sidenote for the Vaporeons and they were showing it. The Darmen team had made only a small squeak on a draw, counting the lights on all encounters. Didn't stand a chance against barely anyone and the Guayabalians were the ones to give them a small bit of mercy. The Wave had compassion for them. Zenic? Nope. Blouman Empire? Psh. Northern Sunrise Islands? Seemingly yes, as they were still holding a draw. The Sunrisians had their first place spot secured a while before for a couple of reasons and the simple fact that Zenic and Guayabal had to go for the other spot. The match against Darmen, again, was a mere friendly disguised as a matchday.

67 minutes. Out was Sonny Blade, In was June Gardot. Out was Yuna, in was Rolando. Out was Pietra, in was Rolandinho Juliano. "Those damn kids." muttered the few Darmen supporters. On those simple Barrengeka kits, the company already seeing their eclipse as Astograth focused on closing their borders; they could only witness the two surprise names of the Sunrisians. Rolando caught the ball, passed to Rolandinho Juliano. Juliano dribbles Miron out of the equation. Juliano leaps over Tome's legs. Ball between the legs of Carr, Rolando gets it. Rolando pulls a Rainbow trick over Tyreek Chevrolet. Ball to Gardot. Gardot passes her right foot on front of the ball once. Twice. Thrice. Fakes a flip to the left, goes to the right, Ramirez goes to the right as well. June pulls the ball back, proceeds to flip all the way around Ramirez. Passes calmly to no one? Tsunami Storm knocks a powerful shot. Straus block it.

Ball is high, dropkick. The net shakes. On the floor, a layed down, still ferocious Ruby. Silence. Cheer. Another win. Another footnote.
Tails... Watch out, you're gonna crash, aaaaah!

Royals fall to Chicks, Syndicate Next

It was a sad day as the Royals finally dropped a fixture, a rough three-one drubbing to the Chicks of the Polar Islandstates, known for winning the World Cup, being number one in the rankings, and generally doing a lot of good stuff. The win not only dropped the Royals from their undefeated stage, but eliminated Mizuyuki from the Di Bradini Cup.

Things went downhill right from the get-go as kickoff quickly lead into a back-pass to Olaf Strauss, the Chick captain. The balanced play of the worlds' best U-21 players battled with the wide midfield of the Royals early on, but the halfbacks were swiftly overwhelmed by a Polarian surge around the fifteenth. Dominant passing play around the Chick halfbacks lead to an opportunistic long pass from Jenssen past Gray to Kirkkegaard, who breezed by Hans Thompson and slammed it into the net.

twwwweeeeeeep. "Offsides!"

The Polarian fans were in uproar over the referee's call, instant replay clearly showing a striker behind the line. But the refs stood their ground, and Jordan Valdevic slammed a clear up the right center for Eric Westbrook, shifting the tides of the game. But a few runs on both sides were halted by a sturdy Chick defense, lead by Strauss, peaking in no more than a weak dribbler by McKenzie to the goal, the only shot to approach it. This was, of course, easily played by Mohr, and a few minutes later, it was once again the Royals on defense, a balanced run from the Polarian side barely being held back by assorted defenders and halfbacks.

But the Royal D was bound to break, and shatter it did. Boris Jenssen slipped a pass through the defense, Rauno Bickermann slicing through the Llamaneans to receive the roller on the right center side of the goal. Bickermann turned and fired, the athletic Jared Finch somehow getting a hand on it but only popping it back into the goal.

Things went downhill, the Chicks stealing the kickoff and Finn Kirkkegard, grandson of the legendary Sol Kirkkegard, sprinted out, caught a long pass softly in the chest, and spun and scored. Two goals in two minutes (34' and 35'). The stunned Royals defense managed to hold out for the next ten minutes, going into halftime down two-nil.

But when the Chicks scored again in the fifty-third, everybody decided that they were going to win and switched channels, meaning nobody saw Player's PK to the right top corner to make it 3-1 in the sixty-eighth. Such is life.

Next up: the fierce Syndicatians of the Inevitable Syndicate. Placing second in a tough group starring Pasarga, Svengarda, and Audioslavia, the team, a defensive squad lead by manager Karen Darvill. It'll be exciting to see the two teams face off for a spot in the quarterfinals. Can the Royals do it? We'll see tomorrow on Llamanean Sports Network.

“Yes sir, manager. I’ll have the others good to go for the game,” said the young voice on the phone. It was only slightly high pitched with some raspy-ness here and there.

“They better be. And please don’t call me sir: I don’t work for the military, I work as a football winner,” replied Assendorp before hanging up the phone. Assendorp was seated at his table in his hotel room, looking over the Kernansquillec file. He cracked a small smile as it dawned on him that his team had made it to the second round despite being in one of the toughest groups.

“Is..is that a smile I see, Rumen? I believe it is,” spoke the man to his left. The man was very average in all regards: height, weight, build and looks. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts underneath a white doctor’s coat, writing on a clipboard as he measured the manager’s blood pressure. His name was Dr. Wandal Oceanus, the doctor for the U21 team. “Shut it, Wandal or I will put my foot up your ass,” threatened Assendorp. “Fine, fine. Just trying to spark some conversation. If that’s off limits, then let’s talk about something more comfortable for you: how about the game against Kernansquillec?” Dr. Oceanus repeated the blood pressure test to make sure he got accurate results.

Assendorp looked over at Oceanus and nodded. “They’re a very good team: 3-0-1 with a +6 goal differential and first place in their group. Though, they did only end up with one more point in their group than we did in ours so I don’t believe there is too large of a talent gap. We play to win and we’ll win for sure. The only thing that scares me is by how much we’ll win,” Assendorp admitted openly. His team was apparently following in the footsteps of Sanders’ senior side of close game after close game.

“All right. Everything seems to be working just fine. The only thing I recommend for you is a bit more sleep. You don’t have to stay up until 3 in the morning before a game every time,” Dr. Oceanus chastised the manager.

“Sure, I could follow your advice doctor. However, that’s part of my winning ritual. And I need to win now.”

Di Bradini Cup
Van Silver's Take

Nice work on the pitch for our Little Hoppers as they secured the top spot in Group A on the final match day of group play. They were taking on the Fillies of Cassadaigua, which turned out to be a very physical affair. There were no injuries to report on, but I’m not sure the ref was actually watching for most of the match as both teams traded cheap shot after cheap shot, late tackles after the ball was gone seemed to be the norm as well. The first forty five saw no scoring and mostly midfield play as neither team wanted to give into the other. 50/50 challenges were plenty in this match as well since the teams seemed not to stick to their former selves and try and play possession. Instead it was forward pass after forward pass, almost seeming to be testing the back line in order to find weaknesses. It wasn’t until the 70th minute when the 0-0 score line would be broken and it was Droimpol off of a cheeky heel flip from Schytaing as play entered into the Fillies box. Kubinova had little chance as well seeing as the ball hit the inside edge of the post before rippling the net. The Little Hoppers would score again in the 82nd minute to go up 2-0, this time off the boot of Loostin after an excellent set piece. Loostin was set up on the back side of the 18 when the free kick was taken. Schytaing and Droimpol were lined up at the ball with Tantrum on the outside edge of the wall. Droimpol ran wide and Schytaing played the ball just to the outside of Tantrum, Tantrum left the ball roll and Droimpol ran onto it sending it straight across into the forward run of Loostin. Loostin easily slid the ball past Kubinova and HopNation could rest a little easier being up by two now. However that was short lived as Cassadaigua would answer with a goal of their own in the 84th minute. Defender Meyer sent the ball long to the corner in an effort to “get it out of danger” from the forward pressure of HopNation. Lowenstein would run the ball down and cut in along the endline as she neared the six yard box Carran moved to close space, but was to slow and Lowenstein played the ball right into the path of Styles. She simply passed the ball to the back post behind Boehler for the goal. Now the Fillies had some momentum with about six minutes left, however it wouldn’t be enough and our Little Hoppers would be victorious! And would be moving onto the next round!

Up next we will face off against Group B runner up Schiavonia. They ended with two wins and two ties overall with their last game being that of a tie with Group B winner Hut River. So this could be a very difficult game for our Little Hoppers.

Good luck to all teams in this next round, until next time!

KERS QUALIFY AFTER EPIC WIN

It'll be a match these young stars of Kernansquillec won't be forgetting in a hurry. Yesterday evening in a must-win game against New Sideburn Kernansquillec's under 21s were involved in a seven goal thriller. After falling behind to a close range finish from Felix Keller Melodie Corren got things back on tract just after the clock ticked past 23 minutes, heading home from Poutre's corner. However the Magpies bounced back immediately, Keller scoring a second time via a deflected strike off of Corren who had just scored minutes before. Things went from bad to worse as after 41 minutes of play, despite dominating a fair amount of play Kernansquillec were undone by a wonderful move from New Sideburn started off and finished by winger and star player Tanya Bottlegreen.

It wasn't looking good and after limping to the half-time break Van der Pon needed to change things around. Carrac came on for O'Connor in central midfielder while fans could only imagine the verbal beating the team must have taken after such an average display in such an important tie. Whatever was said, it worked. 16 year old substitute Carrac was in the right place at the right time as Lilac's strike was only parried by Gilchrist. Kernansquillec were fired up and were starting to stamp their authority on the midfield which New Sideburn had edged in the first half. With time ticking away the Green and Whites started to pour forward much more directly and some desperate defending saw Noupen get tripped just outside the 18 yard box. Lilac stepped up to take the spot kick and rifled it into the back of the net, leaving Gilchirst no change whatsoever.

It was now three all with a bit over quarter of an hour to go and everyone knew what needed to happen for the under 21s to qualify: they needed to score. The Green and Whites, who were playing the changed colours of white with a green diagonal stripe, were definitely giving it their all. The tackling in defence was spot on and going forward every player was busting a gut to get on the end of every ball. The Magpies started to drop deeper and deeper, struggling to hold on to their place in the last 16. Eventually, the breakthrough came to the euphoria of the thousands of Kernansquillecan fans who had made the trip to Starblaydia for the tournament. Lilac's cross was only half cleared and Isabelle Zorm kept her cool to place the ball though a crowd of players into the bottom corner to give her side an epic 4-3 comeback win that saw them qualify for the last sixteen where they will have fellow Rushmorians Zenic, who finished second in group F.

After such an enthralling but tiring match, for the players and the supporters, we'll have to wait and see how these young players will react against Zenic, who also had to wait until their final group game to seal qualification. They finished second ahead of San Jose Guayabal who they beat 3-2 on the final day in group F. Kernansquillec, after their 4-3 win, ended up topping group E ahead of Equestrian States, who beat them 3-1 on the opening day, on goal difference. While some fans are anxious about the game against Zenic who have shown that they are a solid outfit, most seem quite confident going into the match. The two sides have never met, but the Green Stallions seem to be better prepared and in better form. The pre-qualification matches have also allowed the squad to gel together much more than other squads.

As always the game will be live on KBC 1 tonight, live from Cedrus, Starblaydia for the knockout tie. Roughly four thousand Kernansquillecans are expected to be at the stadium with about a thousand of them flying out to Atlantian Oceania especially for the game.

The Story of Gentle Breeze, World Class Goalkeeper
by ESPN Staff

One of the more popular topics of discussion among hoofball pundits these days is the Equestrian States' national team's starting goalkeeper Gentle Breeze, and whether or not she deserves to be considered one of the multiverse's best goalkeepers.

Gentle Breeze's professional career began at age 16 with the Whitetail Foresters, a club in the old Second League of the NEHL system, where her dominant performances earned her widespread acclaim and a spot in the Under-18 All-Equestrian XI. Two years later, the young pegasus was selected as a backup goalkeeper for the Equestrian States national team during the World Cup 62 qualifying campaign, taking the place of the much-despised Mac Stevenson on the roster. Gentle Breeze's international debut came against Qazox in a match which has since become famous, replacing an injured High Soarin' on the pitch against the qualifying group's top seeded team. Conceding three goals in 30 minutes, and another in the final minutes of the match, the move to bring in Gentle Breeze to the national team seemed a colossal mistake on head coach Twilight Striker's part as the Ponies lost by a humiliating 6-2 scoreline that remains the team's heaviest defeat to this day.

However, Twilight Striker kept her faith in the promising young Gentle Breeze, and gave the pegasus her first international start just a week after what Gentle Breeze has described as "the worst day of [her] life". In that match against East Shippensburg, the future Equestrian superstar earned the first of her many clean sheets. Gentle Breeze would go on to earn seven caps that cycle, with two of them being shutout victories. It was a fairly average performance, but a strong one for a player so young and without any prior international experience.

After her reasonably successful stint as a starter during World Cup 62 qualifying, Gentle Breeze earned a promotion in the depth chart, officially becoming Twilight Striker's second-choice goalkeeper for the national team. During the injury-filled 63rd World Cup qualifying campaign, the young pegasus again took over for the sidelined High Soarin' for a few matches until she was also injured.

Fortunately, Gentle Breeze didn't take long to recover from her injury and was fully fit in time for the 26th Di Bradini Cup, where she started every match for the Little Ponies. It was in Vilita that the ever-improving Equestrian goalkeeper first made a name for herself on the international stage, making a number of highlight reel saves as the Equestrian States stormed all the way to a third place finish, only slipping up in a defeat against eventual winners Blouman Empire in the semifinals. Not long after the Di Bradini Cup, the Whitetail Foresters cashed in on their academy's most promising talent, selling Gentle Breeze to the Ponyville Galaxy.

Over the next year, Gentle Breeze would go from a rising national star to one gathering considerable international attention. Serving as a more than competent backup throughout the Equestrian States first successful qualifying attempt at World Cup 64, the stage was set for the ambitious pegasus mare to take the multiverse by storm at the 27th Di Bradini Cup.

In their opening match against Sangti, the Little Ponies and Gentle Breeze got off to a poor start, conceding two goals in the first half hour to a relentless Sangti offense that gave the Equestrian back line few opportunities to rest and regroup. A furious second half comeback leveled the score for the Equestrian States, while Gentle Breeze and the Little Ponies' defense denied every attempt by the Sangti to reclaim the lead. From the 29th minute of that first match until the final minute of the title game, Gentle Breeze was simply flawless, only giving up one other goal to Sicoutimont on a shot which even the best goalkeepers would've been hard-pressed to stop.

Against the renowned offense of High Heels in the second round, a team which had been the bane of the Equestrian senior team at the Cup of Harmony, the pegasus perfectly saved or blocked every shot made by the former Di Bradini Cup winners. After another clean sheet in the quarterfinals that sent Northern Sunrise Islands home in disappointment, the Little Ponies came up against none other than the much-feared and extremely-talented Chicks of Polar Islandstates in a semifinal that many suspected might decide the eventual winner of the tournament. Gentle Breeze yet again produced a stellar performance, first holding firm against a fierce initial series of attacks by the Polarians before denying the Chicks' late attempts to salvage the match after the Little Ponies opened up a 3-0 lead that sent the Equestrian States through to the Di Bradini Cup Final. In a match that has since become legendary among Equestrian hoofball supporters, and an oft-cited example of Gentle Breeze's abilities, the Little Ponies overcame rivals Free Republics in an epic 1-0 victory that earned the Equestrian States its first title in years and sent their 20 year-old goalkeeper's international stock soaring. Gentle Breeze finished the 27th Di Bradini Cup with just three goals conceded and five clean sheets to her name, leading many in the Equestrian States to laud her as a future great.

The promising talent of Gentle Breeze that she had displayed on the international level quickly drew the attention of a number of foreign clubs, as well as several of the Equestrian league's perennial powers. Although they had only recently acquired her from the Whitetail Foresters, Ponyville Galaxy seized the opportunity to make a solid profit from a young player they'd invested relatively little in, selling Gentle Breeze off to Northern Sunrise Islands' Mardi Lopunnies. The Lopunnies, who got a first-hand glimpse at the Equestrian prospect when the Sunrisian U21s were eliminated by the Little Ponies at the Di Bradini Cup, were pleased with their signing, though they weren't nearly as happy as Gentle Breeze, who was hungry for a league title which Mardi also aspired to claim.

In her first season in a foreign league the pegasus goalkeeper performed better than expected, finishing with one of the lowest goals against totals in Sunrise League One. However, Gentle Breeze and the Mardi Lopunnies' title dreams were crushed by the Selyne City Athenians who not only won the league by a full 18 points, but would go on to stun the multiverse by winning the UICA Champions' Cup.

OOC: A work in progress. Same thing as the Pristina Shine story. Former U21 talent who I feel like writing about right now.

"Audioslavia and The Inevitable Syndicate both done and dusted all here in Starblaydia, so much for the might LigAnaia eh?"

"Well, the TIS match was just a draw, even if we did have the better of the game in that whole affair, though the Equestrians are going to be a whole different animal entirely."

"Whole different animal, hahaha, that's great. I wonder if the Torgos Tribune used that pun in their preview..."

"That is not what I meant, and you know it. Anyways, as I was saying, the Equestrians are going to be a whole different sort of test, as they only managed to finish second in their group because of having scored fewer goals than Kernansquillec. They are going to be really tough for the Young Wanderers to break down, only conceding the sole goal a game, our own defense is going to have to be on their game if they hope to advance."

"I think that we have another chance at taking the title, the side seems talented enough to do so. They did just thump the Audioslavians in a match where the Bulls needed to win in order to advance, so they obviously can handle the pressure situations and we do have something of a promising history here, with several deep runs and the one championship."

"I don't know, this group of prospects seems to be lacking a little in quality, there is no Tobias Moller in this bunch, or even an Ausilio Calabrese. Granted there are a bunch of good players in this bunch, but I do not see any great players, the kind that have the promise that Moller did at the same age."

"Well, football is a team game and not an individual game, if it was up to just having the best player on the field, wouldn't only Starblaydia, Valanora, and Polar Islandstates be winning the World Cup?"

"Fair point, I guess they have a chance, but I still think that they will be crashing out next round or maybe the semifinals rather than any spectacular."

Di Bradini Cup
Van Silver's Take

Alright, alright, alright! Little Hoppers come away with a 2-1 victory over Schiavonia to advance to the quarter finals of this cycles Di Bradini Cup. Game play was much of the same for these two sides as the first half was, or rather had a feeling out period. Our Little Hoppers struck fist and this time near the end of the first half. Schytaing was pressing forward on the defense as Loostin carried the ball into the attacking third. It seemed as though the back four of Schiavonia just allowed the forward pressure and kept backing up until there were deep in their end. Loostin played the ball inside to Droimpol who hit Schytaing on a simple through ball as he ran between defenders. Schytaing hit the ball first touch and there was little Orlando Smith could do as the ball rippled the side netting. That goal would be the only one during the first half as action was mainly centrally located on the field for the remainder. At the break the teams looked to still be full of energy and I could tell the game might go either way at this point. During the second half Schiavonia looked to move into a more high pressure mode and had the ball in the HopNation end for the first 20 odd minutes of the second half. The result of this was a very nice goal from Antonia Park which came from a low driven cross sent in by Blige. Park took the ball on a great volley and there was nothing Boehler could do as he watched the ball rise and dip entering the goal almost perfectly in the upper 90. This locked the two at 1s and also marked a point in the game where the high pressure from Schiavonia seemed to ease. It wasn’t until the 88’ when the dead lock would be broken and HopNation would punch it’s ticket to the quarterfinals. This time they scored off of a corner kick which was sent in by Droimpol and connected with the head of center back Rayrd Lesamnal. His header looked to by a bit high from my viewing angle but it caught the bottom of the cross bar and slammed downward. The ball hit the ground and then bounced back up into the net as the team ran to the corner to celebrate. Two minutes of play and three of stoppage time and we had the final whistle.

Up next we will face off against Furellum in the QF1 Match. Furellum won Group C and scored four in their previous match over Group D runner up Jeckland, so we’ll need to contain their offense if we plan on playing another game.

Good luck to all teams in this next round, until next time!

Expectations were high on the Bekkside Arena. A clash between two Di Bradini Cup champions as the Polarians matched up against the Sunrisians all the way from Esportiva. For the Polarians, it meant more experience. The team itself had a mindset that the title wasn't exactly the prize as long as they didn't play badly on the way there. Powered by the biggest teams the league had to offer, the Chicks had a rather justifiable case to make against the Vaporeons. The Vaporeons had been embracing their nation fairly fast. With a roster taking the best (and the youngest if you will) of both Colonies and Islands, the team came off like the complete opposite of the Polarian outfit: a side that could easily be nicknamed as "Just left from the Under-15 World Cup squad" and instead, relied on the innovative Project +90 to fill up their ranks. One side featured Mortensen, Strauss, Brannstrom, Mortensen, Bickermann and the follow up of the Kirkkegaard family, Finn Kirkkegaard. The other featured Kaene, Felipe Pato, Nagai, Storm, Gardot, Ruby, Parker, Pauritanoeca and the great surprise duet of Rolando and Rolandinho Juliano who had spent the last games defying fate as a duo of reserves seemed to somehow overshadow most of the midfield.

A signal from the referee and the game finally started. Loud crowds from both sides trying to back their teams to victory and the game got hot quite early. Even though both teams wouldn't take long until finding their opponents' defense as a wall, the first fifteen minutes were indeed spent on trying to get over those walls. The Polarians, however, would not only find their way over the wall, earlier than they should, but let it backfire horrendously. After a long pass and a shutdown defense behind him, Kirkkegard found himself free to shoot to the goal as only Felipe Neto kept the Chicks from scoring an easy first goal. However, the shot didn't just gone awry, it landed almost like a pass to the goalkeeper. Felipe Neto put the ball back on the game with a strong kick, finding Pauritanoeca's chest on the midfield. The left-back took care of the ball, moving through an open left side before crossing the ball to meet Sonny Blade's head. 1-0.

The game progressed well on the Vaporeons' hands as the Sunrisian crowd's noise was now taking over the atmosphere around the stadium. Chants of "We're Back" and "We don't need no Water Stone" kept running through the venue and the team didn't help much to calm it. Nagai stole the ball on the middle from Mortensen, dribbled over Oien without much complication and then finally hit the top right angle of the goal, scoring a second goal. A third goal made the crowd cheer even higher and even after a honor goal scored by Bickermann near the end of the game silenced the crowd. The Sunrisians were back on the Quarter-Finals. Pasarga was the next opponent. And the fans were ready to cheer even more.
Tails... Watch out, you're gonna crash, aaaaah!

THE QUARTER-FINALS AWAIT

The new breed of young players have kept up Kernansquillec's proud tradition of reaching the quarter-finals in everyone of their 4 (now 5) Di Bradini Cup appearances. Out of the four previous tournaments the Green and Whites have reached the quarter-final stage twice, losing both times after ending normal time level. The other two tournaments saw the Kers finish in fourth place, losing both semi-finals 3-0 before losing the third place play-off (conceding 3 goals in both games). The good news for this young squad is that in their last two Di Bradini Cups (DBC 19 and 20, admittedly it was quite a while ago...) they have gone onto finish fourth. So if history was to repeat itself (at least in part) Kernansquillec would make the semi-finals again. The question then would be could the Under 21s avoid making history repeat itself and make the final.

Which bit of history will repeat itself, if any? Either way the records will show that this team was as good as the one to make their Di Bradini Cup début back in DBC 17 who made the quarters before going out against Scrap Brain Zone in a penalty shoot-out that was woeful, with Scrap Brain Zone scoring just twice from five spot kicks. Kernansquillec did even better, missing all four of their attempts.

The 2-1 win against Rushmori rivals Zenic has assured that this squad will at least get the chance to go out in such a woeful style, or even get to the semis if Lady Luck is with them. Super-Llamaland stand in their way. The Llamas have been in good form their campaign, topping group G ahead of the mighty Polar Islandstates (though they did lose to them in their group game) and winning their last sixteen tie comfortably against The Inevitable Syndicate five goals to one.

The Llamas as we call them (or "Royals" officially) will be lining up with their home kit of blue and black while the Kernansquillecans will be wearing their home bit of green and white. Neither side has any major injury problems so it's promising to be an entertaining match with the 11 best young players of both nations going head to head. The game will be live on KBC 1 as always.

Ezra opened his eyes to find he was standing on green grass. Around him were the tall dark trunks of giant trees, and there was real sky above, a stormy grey sky with a weak light shining through. Turning around, Ezra saw the rest of the team slowly emerge from a shimmering silver field stretched between two trees. The men in green, and one dejected chicken, stood in disbelief as they beheld their new surroundings. Hadn't they been about to face their fiery demise in the furnace of the being Margaret? What then had happened to the furnace, or indeed the gaming room? How had they wound up here? More to the point, where was here? These questions were postulated all at once by various members of the team, until Moisey had to put his fingers in his mouth and whistle to get their attention. "All right, something weird is going on." He told them, "But hey, is it any weirder than being sent on a mission to wake a dreaming non-fish by an eight-legged horse, a mad sphinx, and a talking owl? Or winding up as game pieces on a board run by a giant woman named Margaret? Quite frankly, I'm surprised there's not an elf in a top hat singing "I'll be seeing you" while balancing an echidna on his nose. This is pretty mundane."

Adam ran his finger over the silver screen they'd come through. It rippled at his touch. "This is the same magic we saw Sliepnir and the owl disappear into. Portal magic, but a type I've never seen before.""Then someone stretched it over the pit when we fell, and we came through to here" cried Ion. "That explains why we're alive."
"But who would do that?" asked Ezra, "and why?"
"I would." The voice came from above their heads. They looked up, and saw an old man sitting on a branch. He leapt off and landed on the ground as easily and as unharmed as if he'd just walked off a step.
Mladen recognised him "You!" he cried, leaping forward, his teeth bared. "You're the man who sent on this fool quest in the first place."
It was indeed the same old man who had summoned Sliepnir and his cohort out of the mouth of the goal, on a lonely training ground in Starblaydia. He bowed low, sweeping the ground with his beard. "I am Fate. I would say that I am at your service, but I am never at anyone's service but my own." He chuckled, indicating it was a joke, but nobody laughed.
Levi remembered something. "Margaret mentioned you." he said.
Fate stamped his foot in sudden rage. "That woman! Don't mention that woman's name to me! I weave the threads of the tapestry, and she, she , MEDDLES! Constantly changing things, to suit whatever whim she has at that moment. She drives me mad!"
He stopped, seeming to remember that he had an audience to his tirade. He pointed a finger at Ezra. "Ah, but I stopped her. Pulled you right from the fire, I did! That will teach her! Now, we can put an end to this once and for all. Awake the dreamer, he who swims in water that is not water, and you will return to your own reality. Beyond these woods are mountains. Beyond those are a desert. Beyond that is an impassable gorge, and beyond that a rushing river. Now, beyond that vie is an open grassland, and beyond the grassland the sea. On that sea is an island, and on that island is a mountain. On that mountain you will find the dreamer."

"All that!" cried Moisey, "Why, that could take a lifetime. We don't have time to waste as pawns in your silly squabble. We've got a football tournament to compete in. We've already missed the game against Albaie, if Margaret's table is any judge."
The old man laughed. "Game against Albaie! Why, of course. Subjective time is new to you! How could you know? Should I tell? Oh yes!"
"Tell us what?" Mladen stepped forward, his teeth clenched and paws extended in a threatening manner. The old man ignored him. "Why of course, why not? Not one game has gone by, no not one, eight! And into the quarter-finals goes Furellum! HopNation to come, and still not over yet! So the weaving continues."
"Quarter-finals? But, we've only been gone a day, two at the most!" cried Ezra.
"Time is strange, in this world. I am old here, but in your world I would be ancient beyond memory, for I am the weaver of time and history. And now it is your time to do your part. Go on your journey, wake the dreamer, and return to your own time." He clicked his fingers, and there was a blinding flash of light. When the team could see again, he had gone.

The forest was eerily quiet. There was no sound, not even that of their own paws hitting the ground, as they trudged deeper into the trees, following the direction the old man had indicated. Suddenly, the silence was broken by a spine chilling cry from above. Ezra looked up, and a dark shadow fell upon his face. He cringed back, but then felt foolish as he saw that it was nothing more than a raven, following the same line as them. A raven. Something about that was troubling Ezra. Something significant about a raven, but he couldn't remember what it was. Shaking his head, he followed Moisey into the forest.

Emerging out of the trees, the team saw the dark sloping foothills of the mountains Fate had described. A small trail wound from where they were standing up into tall rocky peaks. They went on, neither tiring nor suffering from hunger or thirst, which Ezra began to find disturbing. It was at the top of the first mountain that he once again heard the cry of a raven, and saw the black bird dip in the sky and swoop into the valley below. Moisey called a halt soon after, even though none of them were tired. "What do you want to do?" he asked them. "What Fate has asked us to do could take a while, but what choice do we have? If we do this, Fate will send us home. Right now, I see it as our only option."
Mladen said "I don't trust that Fate. How do we now he'll send us home?"
Suddenly Volund raised a paw. "Ssshhh" he hissed. The grey wolf had both ears up, listening. "Footsteps, coming towards us."
Stepjan sniffed the air. "I smell nothing."
"Trust these ears." Said Volund, "It's genetic."
"As is my sense of smell." muttered the gazelle. However, by then he'd also heard the footsteps as whoever it was came up the path. A moment later the walker came up over the ridge and into view.

OOC: Just in case any one is wondering, for all intents and purposes the doppelgangers created by Fate are an exact replica of the Furellum team, and operate just as they would on the pitch. In short, feel free to RP this team as if they are in Starblaydia and not in some bizarre other dimension. The players on the pitch are quite real (enough), but have no knowledge of the events unfolding in aforementioned bizarre dimension.

It was a woman, small and slender. Her skin was black, not merely a dark brown but black like pitch, and her hair was the same colour. Her clothes too were of the darkest black, and of a curious design. From her ankles to neck she was clad in strips of leather, and had a cloak that billowed out behind her. The cloak was fastened across her face, obscuring her mouth and node and leaving only her eyes visible. Those were cat-like, and seemed to change colour, from green to amber, then grey or midnight blue. The woman seated herself on a rock, cross-legged fashion, and watched the team intently, in perfect silence.
Volund addressed her. "Is there something we can do for you?"
"A thousand things," came the reply, and her voce reminded Volund of ancient lakes, mysterious and deep, "But you already have a quest. I come to warn you from it."
"Warn us? Why?" asked Mordecai.
"Fate would have you wake the dreamer, but do you not wonder that you alone are part of the dream? Indeed, Furellum and all you know are but a scene on the sleeper's eye. So, if the dreamer awakes, the dream will vanish, and you along with it."
"I knew it!" cried Mladen, "Fate wishes us to be the objects of our own destruction!"
"But Sliepnir sent us." said Thor, "He alone can be trusted."
"Ah yes, Sliepnir, whose mother is the deceiver, the mischief-god. What was it he promised? A song in the Gimill hall. But you know that it will be sung only after Ragnarok, when the world sinks in fire. So yes, he can be trusted to keep his promise, when the world ends."
"But Sliepnir runs with the All-father to the fight against the fire-lords" said Thor.
"He will indeed," said the woman, "and so fulfil the plan Fate has woven for him. Fate has set you on this course to weave your part. I intend to break that thread."

"Why?" asked Han.
"If you would rather destroy yourselves, feel free. I will not stop you, for I offer you something Fate will not. A choice." Replied the woman.
"But why do you offer that choice?" pressed Han.
"Because it will annoy Fate. Because it suits me. Take your pick."
Mikhail spoke up. "Fate said Margaret annoyed him. Are you Margaret, or a servant of hers?"
The woman laughed. "Maggie concerns herself with her little games, and considers that she is the commander of destinies. I command no destinies, and because of that I am far more powerful and dangerous then she will ever be. No, I am not her servant, nor her master. I am me."
"And who might that be?" asked Moisey.
"The shadow that hides the thief, the wind that blows in just the right direction. I am known by a thousand names, both blessed and cursed, and many times in the same breath. Much of my names have been usurped by the pretender Margaret, but still there are those that remember me. In your own nation I am known simply as the Lady."
Moisey replied, "Very well then, Lady, if you intend to stop us in our quest, then will you send us back to our own reality?"
"That is beyond my power. Only one can do that. You must seek out the User."
"Who is this User?" asked Adam.
"If the Sleeper dreams of you, then the user is the one that dreams the Sleeper. Find him, and he may change the dream to send you back. Wether he will I cannot say, for I too am part of his dream."
The Lady stepped down from the rock she had been sitting on. "With each stroke of the keys our destiny is decided. The User awaits, and speed is now needed. So make your choice."

Moisey called the rest of the team into a huddle, just like if they were on the football pitch. "Ok, here's the deal. I don't know if we can trust her, but if Fate is intending for us to destroy the world than that is what will happen if we wake this dreamer. If we follow this Lady and find the User, I don't know what will happen. But I'd rather take my chances with her than with Fate. Let's take a vote. All those in favour of following the lady, say aye."
"Aye!" Twenty-two voices joined in the agreement. Only Thor was silent. It was clear he still had doubts about disobeying Sliepnir.
"All right. It's decided." Moisey broke the huddle and turned to the Lady. "We've made our decision. Where is this User?"
"I do not know." replied the Lady, "However, what do you think the chances are that part of this mountain will fall away, land in a river, and carry you exactly where you need to go?"
"I'd have to say that would be very lucky." replied Moisey
The Lady's eyes crinkled in to what looked like a smile. "Oh good." she said, and clicked her fingers. Immediately the earth began to tremble. "Here we go!" yelled Ragnar as he grabbed Ion. Then the top of the mountain slid off with the team holding on as they plummeted down the mountainside.

"I'm wet through." moaned Zhenya, wringing out his tail. The team were dragging themselves out of the river that they'd landed in, exactly as the Lady had said. Behind Zhenya, Lievin threw himself on to the bank. "nothing wrong with a bit of water." the otter said, patting his fur dry. "Easy for you to say." said Zhenya bitterly.
Vidarr was another who didn't mind the water. The big hippo had rolled on to the bank and was exploring the area. "Hey guys," he called, "come check this out."
The team came over to see his discovery. On the ground was a large flat stone, with a circle engraved on it. Around the edge of the circle ran a phrase, repeated three times. Vidarr read it out loud. "Deus ex machina. What on earth does that mean."
"A god out of the machine. It's latin." That was from Adam, the only one of the team with a tertiary education.
Moisey said, "So we've met the gods, but where's the machine?"
"We're in it." It was Ezra who spoke, quietly. "Think about it. The "User". What's he using if not a machine? The Lady has already told us we're part of his dream."
Han said, "Perhaps then we're reading this inscription wrong. The Lady said we would find the user at the end of the river. What if the god out of the machine is not the gods created by the machine, but the god outside the machine, controlling it from without?"
Adam said, "Then this stone is the key to finding the user and getting out of here." Come on, we need to work out how it works."

The crowd kept pushing the team far. The score was two-two, but the Young Wanderers' light was fading away rather fast. A small sign from the coach's hand and a combined play rolled on. As Müller tried to take out his markers, Hanna proceeded to go towards him, diagonally. Obviously, Müller progressed to the other side, losing the ball as Martinho covered the way the Pasargan went through. Martinho made sure to pass the ball forward with strength, finding Kaene's feet on the middle. Kaene jumped over a tackle by Jürgen Vogel before passing it to Pietra Carvalho. She however didn't even look, rolling the ball to the other side, somehow managing to pass the ball through Rehák's legs. As Lukacs saw his way to grab the ball, however, he didn't notice the speeding Sonny Blade, who proceeded to roll the ball around, leaving only her unprotected left leg on Lukacs' way. An inevitable crash, a penalty, a yellow card for the Pasargan keeper, to which players protested against.

PENALTY! A PENALTY FOR THE SUNRISIANS! The Young Wanderers can't comprehend how that even happened, but after another show of impressive skills, the Vaporeons could be solving it now! We're already on the last ten minutes of the game and... a yellow card! Bognár Lukacs goes to the yellow card list. Better be careful, only 10 minutes left for one to mess around and they still have to beat the winnings ide from Kernasquillec and Super-Llamaland, another tied game, already on its' way to the first half of Extra-Time!

"Go for it, Ruby." said Kaene, calm. "You can do it..."

The rest of the forwards aligned to try a shot backed off, leaving Ruby for the shot.

And the Sunrisians have made their pick. For the Penalty Kick, number 7, right-midfielder from the Sunrisian Territory of The Edenias... here comes Ruby! Another Project +90 breed, currently at Ragaman from the Daineri Super Liga. Lukacs seems rather confident under the bars. Rather surprising after getting a yellow card.

The redhead sighed. She looked around, finding players from both Pasarga and Northern Sunrise Islands set for a recovery if she screwed it up. Among those, she could find a smiling Kaene. It was weird how that boy seemed to think everything was all right ever since they started their run. Regardless, that moment was the one that could keep their story running more. And who knows, maybe it was a good thing coming.

"To hell with it." said Ruby, before jumping and kicking the ball.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! IT'S A GOAL! IT'S A GOAL! SHE HAS DONE IT! RUBY! RUBY! RUBY! RUBY! DO YA, DO YA, DO YA, DO YA! KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING DOING TO PASARGA!? A PERFECT SHOT TO THE BACK OF THE NET BY RUBY! 3-2 Vaporeons, Kaene, Sonny Blade and now Ruby for Esportiva's sole representants, Müller twice for Pasarga!

The crowd, of course, gone wild. The Sunrisians were on the semi-finals of the Di Bradini Cup again. Again, a match against the Rushmoris, now from Kernasquillec, the surprise of the tournament. It was time to put their A-game.

Tiamare, Illadua
Liu Keng Mau Stadium, home of Project +90

"Welcome. Name?" asked a security guard. Tamara had to swallow her pride as the once child of the president of Felix to know being just a mere peasant on the extensive Project +90 pyramid. "Claudia Terrafaux." she answered, showing the fake id she was granted. The guard just nodded and let her in the stadium.

There were dozens and dozens of teenagers of all ages there. Different origins, but all on the same situation. Project +90 paid their trip to the Liu Keng Stadium where the best would be then taken in. Now-named as Claudia, she knew she would certainly end up among the picked players. She was already a professional at her league, a rather noticeable player on one of the important teams of Felix. Why would that be a sudden problem? The day passed and Claudia was officially accepted into Project +90, allocated as a Project +90 Northern Sunrise Islands player.

Only to be shocked by news. A new president was elected. And no one exactly knew what was his position. Eric Fahrenheit. Don't let the name fool you. What seems to be the name of a rather patient person was, in fact, the name of one of the biggest badasses that has ever tried to be voted into something. With a politic campaign of just being flat out awesome, the opposition was stunned. Glass Shatters. Was he going to raise hell? Corvidae hell?

EXTRA-ORDINARY YOUNGSTERS REACH SEMI-FINALS

It's going to be another semi-final for Kernansquillec's under 21s at the Di Bradini Cup! After what can only be described as a smash-and-grab finish to their quarter-final game against Super-Llamaland, the Young Stallions will now go head-to-head with Northern Sunrise Islands of the Esportiva region who beat Pasarga in a thrilling 3-2 win. Kernansquillec have already played Zenic who finished second to Sunrise in group F.

Kernansquillec's quarter-final game played last night was once again an epic encounter. Both sides were evenly matched during the first period where it was fair to say that nerves were starting to get to a few players on both sides in front of a sell-out crowd of 60,000 at the Sports Hall Stadium in Karak D'Ragh. The second half kicked off with the scores still blank with the only chance of note of the first period falling to the Llama's Michael McKenzie who forced a good save from Hector Ferly with a shot from 25 yards out.

The second half turned out to be a much more fiery competition which was kicked into live when Marie Iris went down in the opposition's penalty box after some physical defending from Hans Thompson. His tackle was deemed too physical for the referee's liking as he pointed to the spot, to the dismay of Super-Llamaland's players and supporters. Peter Lilac stepped up to take the spot kick which he dispatched perfectly to add to his tally for the tournament, giving his side the lead with a little under half an hour of normal time left to play.

Tempers soon started to flair as both sides gave their all to try and seal their place in the final four. Super-Llamaland were pressing hard for the equalizer but Kernansquillec were holding on and looked dangerous on the break. However with just five minutes to go McKenzie broke though the defensive line and was in one-on-one with the keeper. As he tried to go round him Ferly caught his leg, taking him down and giving the referee no choice but to award a penalty and send off the 18 year old St Marie Youth Academy keeper. Morgane Tilly was brought on immediately in the place of Noupen but was unable to save the penalty that McKenzie buried to send the game to extra time.

Kernansquillec were set up now to not concede another goal with Super-Llamaland looking to take advantage of the extra man they now had. But Kernansquillec were standing firm, trying to keep hold of the ball for as long as possible. However the deciding moment of the game was to arrive in the 118th minute. Super-Llamaland had a corner which Kernansquillec cleared. Substitute Kéziah Carrac (on for Iris) picked up the clearance and went on a powerful run down the left wing, brushing off any challenge. The winger broke into the box before squaring it back for Lilac who had given his all to get down to the other end of the field and he found himself unmarked when the ball came to him, allowing him to slot home from close range to give his side the win.

Kernansquillec will face Northern Sunrise Islands at the Iota "Big Eye" Arena in Penningworth while the other semi-final sees Furellum, who beat HopNation on penalties, take on The Kytler Peninsulae, who saw off Farfadillis by a single goal, at Jader Barbahlo Stadium in Jhanna. It's fair to say that the Kers will be underdogs going into their tie. The Islanders are unbeaten since the start of the tournament, draw just a single game during the group stages which saw them top Group F. They have also seen off the mighty Polar Islandstates comfortably, three goals to one.

Kernansquillec will be lining up in their home kit of green and white while Northern Sunrise Islands will be in their home colors of blue and yellow. The game will be on KBC 1, live from Starblaydia.

The team sat dejectedly around the stone. Try as they might, they couldn't seem to find out how it works. Ion sat on the stone itself, kicking his heels against it. The chicken from Margaret's game room sat down beside him. "What's your name?" Ion asked him.
"I don't have one." said the chicken sadly. "There was no need for names serving Margaret."
"So how did you come to work for her, anyways?" asked Ion.
"Do you know that people in your reality sacrifice chickens of rubber to Margaret? Well, when a rubber chicken is sacrificed, one of our number appears in Margaret's realm, bound by magic to do her bidding."
"But you are free of her bidding." pointed out Ion. "I mean, you came with us."
"I did not come with you willingly. Margaret through me out, remember? Had it not been for the intervention of Fate, I would have been destroyed in the furnace. Not that it will be any loss to Margaret. Some one will sacrifice another chicken, who will take my place and the cycle will continue, just as it always has."
"Well you need a name." said Ion. "We can't keep calling you the chicken all the time. Let's see, how about John?"
"If you want to call me that, then I suppose I will be John."

Decebal hammered on the stone with his fists. "Damn it, open!" he growled. Beside him, Adam ran his fingers wearily over the carved inscription. "I've tried all the spells I know. Nothing's working."
He read aloud, for the hundredth time, the words around the circle. "Deus ex machina."
"A god out of the machine." said Mordecai, "or as Ezra would have it, outside the machine, god."
Adam said, "I suppose it could read "Ex machina, deus."
As he finished the sentence, the circle in the centre of the stone suddenly shone a brilliant blue.
"No way!" muttered Adam "Was it really that simple?"
"What do we do now?" asked Levi
"We do what the pioneers of magic did." said Adam. "We touch it and see what happens." He stretched out a hand and touched the light part of the stone gently. It was warm, despite the rest of the stone being cold. Nothing else happened, so Adam climbed onto the stone and stepped into the circle.

Instantly he vanished. The team sat staring at the spot where he had been, inside the circle of blue light. "What do we do now?" asked Stepjan.
Ezra answered, "If the User is the god out of the machine, then this stone leads to him. So, we take the next step. We follow Adam."
He too stepped into the circle of light, and disappeared. One by one, the team followed him, until only Thor remained. he made the sign of the hammer for good luck, then added the sign of the spear just for good measure. "Sliepnir, find me worthy." he prayed, then walked into the light.

There was a flash of blue, then Thor was standing in a different place. Above his head was a sky of black, but it was flat like a roof. No sun shone in the sky, nor stars or moon. Thor and the rest of the team were standing on a balcony on the edge of a building, which was made of a strange black substance. The rest of the team were at the balcony's edge, staring into the space below. So Thor went over to see what they were looking at. Down below his feet was a city, but unlike any he'd ever seen. A sheet of green stretched as far as he could see, but it was not grass. It was smooth and glossy, and appeared slightly translucent. Etched across its surface were roads of a lighter green, from which came a strong glow which was the only illumination in the city. Along these roads were small silver buildings, none anywhere near the size of the black building they were standing on.

"Where are we?" asked Thor. To his amazement, across the flat sky appeared words in glowing white, in answer to his question.
--In the machine--
"Who are you?" asked Mihails in surprise.
--The one you have been searching for. The Lady called me the User--
"The User! Can you send us home?" asked Adam.
--Of course. But first you must wake the dreamer--
"Aren't you the dreamer"
--I am not, for while I dream I am awake. You were sent on a mission, and it time it was fulfilled--
"But the Lady said that would destroy us!" said Mladen.
--So she was commanded, so that you would be here. But while Ragnarok may one day occur, and the world sink, Fate is wrong to imagine that waking the sleeper will cause it. For both you and they are not part of the sleeper's dream--

"Then who's dream are we a part of?" asked Thor.
--Mine--
"And what are you, that you dream us all? A god?" the question came from Mordecai.
--I am Furellum--
"You are the nation? What does that even mean?"
--I am not a nation. I am the User. I am Furellum.--
"You make no sense" said Volund, "But that does not surprise me any more. Now, will you send us home or not?"
--You have a task to perform first. And a tournament to win--
"We are still in the Di Bradini then?" asked Domen.
--Through to the final against Northern Sunrise Islands. You scraped through the quarters and semis on penalties. Very lucky indeed--
"Lucky? Or did you dream that as well?" said Moisey.
--I am only one User. I am not Starblaydia, nor does he dream of the scores. For that is the will of the Program--
"The Program? What new devilry is this?" said Mladen.
--The Program is that which dreams the scores--
Levi asked, "Then what we do on the pitch has no meaning? The results are already dreamed by this Program?"
--You fulfil the third R. There are two others that determine the outcome--
"What are they?" Levi shouted the question into the jet black sky, now filled with glowing white words.
--Things you cannot change. The first is rank. The second is #RAND, which is the true source of Margaret's power--
"Then what is this RAND?" asked Moisey.
--That which you call luck, or chance. I call it the Lady--
"So what is this third R, then?" said Levi, thinking back.
--Everything I dream. Now it time to end this particular story. Awake the dreamer, the fish that is no fish, who swims in water that is no water.--
"You know, I never understood that." said Kolar. "It's been troubling me all this time."
--You will see, if you close your eyes. Here, I will do it for you. The team closed their eyes…--

…and opened them again. They were standing on a mountain peak. Looking around, they saw they were on a small island.
"Just like Fate said. This is where he told us we would find the sleeper." said Ezra, looking around. "I don't see him anywhere."
Lievin found some instruments hidden in a crack in the rock. "Maybe we can use these to wake him?" he said.
"Worth a shot." said Moisey. "I'll take the drum."
He picked up the instrument, and Lievin passed the rest around the rest of the team. There were eight in all, all different and all looked ancient. However, when Mordecai blew a note on his flute, it rang out clear and sweet.
"Nothing." said Moisey. "Perhaps if we all try together?"
He played, and the others followed, somehow all managing to strike upon the same tune. It reverberated in the air, echoing back at them as if bouncing off the clouds. The world suddenly darkened, until the team could see nothing at all. When the world lightened, they were astonished to see they were standing on the training ground in Starblaydia.
A strange sound came from above their heads, a low mournful call, and as one they looked up. Amidst the clouds, silhouetted by the sun, was the shape of a giant whale, swimming in the sky. As they watched, it faded away until there was nothing but a faint glimmer, and than that too was gone.

*peep*From behind the team, the coach's whistle blew. "What are you all staring at the sky for?" growled Claudiu. "Sunrise are our opponent's next game, you know. They've beaten us once in a final before, I'm not letting it happen again. Now, to the goal and back, twice. Go!" He blew his whistle and the team responded, trying to get into the training. They might not understand who the User was, or the Program, but they did understand that once again they were in a youth football cup final against the Northern Sunrise Islands. Many of them were in the team that lost the U-15 World Cup to the poster boys of Esportiva, and they were determined to use whatever little power they had to finally achieve their revenge, and add some silver to a trophy cabinet that had been are for too long. Fate, Margaret, the Lady, #RAND or the Program; That they could not influence. But what they could do, they would to the best of their ability. After all, that was the dream, wasn't it?

The Sunrisians weren't exactly on their best day against Kernasquillec. Either that or the Kerns were an unexpected (and redundant) surprise. The Vaporeons had to hold their opposition down for at least 70 minutes after scoring the opener. A powerful shot that somehow pushed Ferly into the net with the ball on his arms. Again, a Tsunami Storm trademark. It was a rather simple task. Until the eightieth minute. The ball was behind them. Parker didn't see it, Martinho didn't see it... Constatine, who just joined in, saw it. The surprise pick of the roster had his moment of savior. Even if the Kers didn't win it, it was still a hell of a way to go.

On were the two last substitutions by Péricles. It didn't seem to make much sense. Off were Rolando and Rolandinho Juliano, the two talismans of the squad, in were the Ralts. Gardevoir and Kirlia, designated defenders were now upfront. Football pundits around the multiverse did not waste any potshot at the Sunrisian coach for said move. The Carnival City Samba coach wasn't popular at his home place and having the courage to change the two shining stars for a complete, unexpected change. Didn't help that the two lasses barely could see a lot as their haircuts somehow covered one of their eyes fully. The bigger one, Gardevoir, passed the ball to the smaller one, Kirlia, as the extra time started.

Soon the field was mixed again with colors. The green of Kernasquillec mixed with the white shirted Sunrisians on the pitch, all in a messy round. The ball splashed up for the Vaporeons, as a shocking Kirlia Ralts had the ball on her feet, speeding through the pitch, exploring all holes to build a way to the goal. On the box, she would finally shoot it. A blast that would only be stopped by Ferly's hands. The ball was punched out, flying on the way... of a dashing, from nowhere Gardevoir Ralts. A header, a goal. The Sunrisians would only have to hold their defense up for two more minutes and finally hear the claps from the crowd. The Sunrise was on the final. Now, the team left to beat was Furellum, whom the Sunrisians had enough good memories of. Project +90 should reign triumphant on the Cup. It was the only way.

A televised meeting was set. Matteo Alescio, minister of Foreign Relations from Yttribia had finally found a way to set a meeting with the recently elected president of Northern Sunrise Islands. The Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands was rather known for being apolitical at most moments, though they'd still vote rather often to avoid mishandling by politicians.

And then the glass shattered. Out came the president, decked on a typical suit, but still a brewing badass, just waiting to strike. The minister got slightly scared, specially as he felt that it was needed to pose on the fourth spots of the podium, grab thrown beer to him and drink in an instant.

As it finally ended, Matteo Alescio tried to focus, calm down and start to talk again. "Now, sir, you're aware that the Corvax is strongly interested on having your help on keeping the safe style of life we have. We want to let Esportiva live the way it should and your presence on our alliance would be a lot of help and-" Matteo's eyes grew as he noticed two signs, one saying "We're not down with facists" and another, surprisingly saying "Fahrenheit 3:16", but he quickly returned to the point. "We are aware that we are bigger than the current Saints of Liberation that also happens to include the Saints of Stilwater-" Matteo tries to continue to talk but a bit "WOOOOOO" roars through the crowd.

"The point is. With your word, we'll deploy units to help you get rid of the Saints and we'll save you from the wrath of our forces and-" Matteo tried to continue, but Eric stopped him, putting a finger on front of his face. "So let me get this. Y' sayin' that this big ass place shouldn't let the Saint boys blow things up, just 'cause y' don't want to face 'em?". The recently elected president stared at the crowd, raising his hands, waiting for support, being instantly cheered upon. "Well, sir. If they get too out of hand, they're a nuisance and should be ended." The minister then raises up, offering his hand to be shaken. "We know you're not dumb, you'll certainly pick the right choice."

Eric raised, looking at the minister. "Y' know. I know exactly what I should do." At first, Eric seemed like reaching his hand... until delivering a well given kick to the minister's stomach, causing him to fall down, but as a result, ended up applying a good ol' Stunner, hitting his shoulder on the minister's elbow.

"I'm not gonna use my forces on ya, but I'm gonna let 'em Saints do whatever the hell they want. And that's the bottom line, 'cause Fahrenheit said so."

They kept neutral? Seemed like it. Saints on the other hand... were in for a war.
