[Northern Sunrise Islands]

THE NATION
The Arceusian Republic of Northern Sunrise Islands is a Republic located in the North of Esportiva, Superiori. With a current population of 2.805 billion, ranging from common humans, to people with cat-like features, to hybrids of humans with Pokémon, to psychic Pokémon themselves, who are now considered civilians due to their tendency to have the ability to think and "talk" by special ways; Northern Sunrise Islands is the odd nation between a couple of others that are... well, more simplistic.

With all types of species roaming around, the Sunrisians have some history with the Under-15 World Cup, managing to win it in the fourth edition. So, when the fifth edition was announced and bidding was allowed, Northern Sunrise Islands jumped at the chance and grabbed it with all of its' strength to bring thirty-two teams to Superiori for a chance at the Cup the Esportivan country already have won once.

STADIA

Capacity: 65,000 Tennant: Arrendine Remparts (Sunrise League Two)
The city of rich people. Just to remember, this city had to deal with Jaunepont separating itself because they felt that they were too rich to be part of a rich city and could found another one with money. Yes, basically, that's Arrendine. You only live here if you have a very successful enterprise or just happens to be a close worker to a millionaire. Culture is overrated at Arrendine, mostly because people have the money to spend at it. Here you speak French, even though speaking English won't hurt you that much...


Capacity: 50,000 Tennant: Boston United (Sunrise League One)
Some would say that, of all the cities in Northern Sunrise Islands that tried to remodel themselves based on cities of the past, Boston went the extra mile for it. At one point, they even went on to request that the Bruins of the Sunrise Hockey League were relocated to Boston just out of heritage. The city is so out of sync with the rest of the country that you can almost feel you are at another place, but eventually, a Pidgey flying on the sky should remind you that it is still NSI.


Capacity: 70,000 Tennant: Lylat Starfox (Sunrise League One)
Welcome to Lylat, Corneria Island; "Air City", where planes keep being developed for the sake of evolution. Lylat City is known mostly by their all-mighty Starfox Brigade, a group of the most talented plane pilots that has ever lived. The other passion of the city, however, is football. To the point where the city's team, Lylat Starfox, somehow became a huge team only one season after debuting, appearing in Heritage Cups from time to time.


Capacity:78,600 Tennant: Matthew City Senators (Sunrise League One)
Ah, Matthew City. One of the twin cities, together with Selyne City, that made its mark in the sports' scene of Northern Sunrise Islands. Originally named Nowhere, Matthew City earned its name thanks to one of the two twins of the Amy City fire, in which two brothers named Matthew and Selyne saved the day. While economically weaker than its twin, Matthew City is quite the pleasant sight. The laid-back town has, nowadays, two big stadiums, but the NSIFC decided to go with the older, InComm Arena, for the World Cup.


Capacity:45,000 Tennant: Grêmio Porto-Alegrense (Sunrise League One)
Porto Alegre was once the capital of the proud Union de Sud, one of the three nations that separated from the Hueland Empire not too long ago. They wouldn't last long as an independent nation, deciding to join Northern Sunrise Islands out of fear of being taken by force by another land and knowing that Northern Sunrise Islands would be soft with them. Nowadays, however, the Gaúcho Island is prouder than ever of their own identity as a calm but always rough land. Do not piss off the people from there, unless you want a good fight.


Capacity: 50,000 Tennant: Stilwater Saints (Sunrise League One)
Stilwater was once a city in Saint Anne and Jacob. The city separated from the country and became a duchy, but after the Economical Crash of the 10s, Stilwater was added to Northern Sunrise Islands as a territory, later becoming a state, together with Steelport and some other districts that ended up following it. The city may be more notorious by the gang that it spawned years ago, the Saints, and also by the fact that the supposed zombie issue of April 1st did create some zombies in the Old portion of the city, currently under the ground because of the whole "moving from place to place" thing.


Capacity: 20,000 Tennant: SV Sunrice Helmachines (Sunrise League Four)
Sunrice was once the capital of a province dedicated mostly to the cultivate rice, which was pretty much underwhelming. Sunrice did however grow into a proper place for all types of jobs, thanks to their pretty hot weather. The city itself, Sunrice, however, hasn't really moved away from their relative importance to the rest of the country, while every now and them, Sunrice proves to be quite the working area. This may have to do with the amount of poor neighborhoods, which is a surprising vision to any foreigner. Plus, most of the stadia of the city are going through structural changes, with the Minikamp being the sole one around to host the World Cup in Sunrice.


Capacity: 79,500 Tennant: Verdy Tokyoto (Sunrise League Two)
Tokyoto IS a cultural city. A tourism target for children, teenagers and younger adults; the "Graffi-town" doesn't have that nickname for no reason: The city is almost fully covered in Graffiti! But not mere, simple, not artistic graffiti. No, not at all! The city is almost an entire drawing book for artists to lay their art on the face of buildings. The city is also known as the "Sunrisian Capital of Rollerblading", and for good reason. Verdy Tokyoto, however, the owner of the stadium, is a lesser enthusiast of the practice, thus keeping the stadium clean.

The Federation of Free Republics (FFR) is a federation of Republics with a weak national government (the "Federation Government") that has numerous checks and balances. The Republics, each of which has its own government, are relatively independent, although they are subject to the Federation Constitution and its numerous restrictions on what government can do. Most important among them is the cap on taxation, which makes it unconstitutional for government (meaning all governments in the FFR) to take more than 10% combined of anybody's income in taxes, effectively limiting the government. They are the nearest neighbor to Saintland, although that tiny island nation is over a thousand miles to the north of the northern-most Republic's northern border, and most Republicans actually tend to consider progressives worse than religious fanatics, even if both ideologies are considered extreme and contrary to Republicanism. Rule Theriault has assigned the job of coaching the U-15 side to his assistant, Massimiliano Abdullahi. Despite the struggles of the Beach Cup U-15 side, all 10 players from that side will be participating in the U-15 World Cup. This is a mixed-gender side. Zrina Martinovic, Melania Lucchesi, Roberta Villalobos and Connie Chase are girls. Sachiya Inoue is from Noburu Taiyou, a semi-autonomous colony of the Free Republics located in Esportiva. Porvaldur Hinriksson and William Walls from the main Republican National Team will participate in the U-15 World Cup because they are eligible. While Walls and Hinriksson are the best players on this team, there are no other players on the U-15s that stand out that much from their teammates. Orazio and Melanie Lucchesi are brother and sister.

Team Background

Fresh scholars of Project Nova, the dedicated football academy that was formed three years previously under the auspices of the administration of Reizei Mikoto, the latest Mizuyuki squad to enter the U15 World Cup is hoping to add yet another prestigious title to their trophy cabinet. They have to perform incredibly well to stand a chance of making either the U21 squad under Shirakiin Kurumi, or the senior squad, led by Mizuyukian football legend Ishikawa Haruka.

While they may be cutting their teeth at international level, the Novalites' manager certainly is not. Despite being at the tender age of 24, manager Reizei Akemi was forced to retire from a professional playing career due to complications arising from an infection to her right foot. Determined to leave her mark upon Mizuyukian football, she took her coaching badges and also graduated summa cum laude from Kirayuki University in Sports Science. Although Reizei has plenty of experience playing for the national U21 and U15 squads, this is her first venture into professional management at the top level.

Let's see if these Butterflies can grow out to be real Dragonflies (nickname of the national football team)! Over the past days, the single Meritocracy has been divided into 31 states united under one Meritocracy, leading to a lot of people changing their names now there is freedom of language. Some have kept their old names, some have 'new' ones... And let's make these 15-year-olds proper 21-year-olds so they can get eliminated at the Di Bradini Cup group stage! (which tends to happen)

The strategy used by the U-15 team is a lot like the 'adult' team's strategy. Defensive, counter attacking, some 'disagreeable' tactics, and free kicks and corners as the main source of our shots on goal. The team uses a 4-3-2-1, with two fullbacks, two wing defenders(=4), two defensive midfielders with a central midfielder (=3), two wingers (=2) and one striker. The central midfielder is there to pass to whoever can receive the ball, and the wing defenders can take the wingers' place when they are with the striker, waiting for a good cross.

Sporting World

Time for the next generation of Republicans to show what they can do

For the first time ever, we have decided to enter the U-15 World Cup, the world's premier soccer event for players in their early teens. While this event may not have the prestige of the Di Bradini Cup, we nonetheless have the opportunity to accomplish something that no nation has ever accomplished. We have the opportunity to win the youth double by winning both the Di Bradini Cup and the U-15 World Cup in the same year. I am excited for the opportunity and look forward to managing the FFR's future stars on the grand stage of the U-15 World Cup.

3 nations have previously won the U-15 World Cup and, fittingly, all 3 winners will be returning for this edition. This includes a team from Wight, who won the first U-15 World Cup in Farfadillis. Currently, the Wightlings are the defending World Cup champions. Yes, the big World Cup. The second and third U-15 World Cups, held in Vettrera and Shadowbourne respectively, were both won by the Inevitable Syndicate. Finally, last year's U-15 World Cup was won by the Northern Sunrise Islands. That was the second U-15 World Cup held in Farfadillis. This year, the Northern Sunrise Islands are the hosts of the U-15. After hosting the most recent edition of the Handball World Cup, where our neighbors at the north pole won the championship with an undefeated record, the Northern Sunrise Islands have decided to host the U-15 World Cup.

Last month, we put up a valiant fight in the Beach Cup, facing much older and more experienced opposition, but we ultimately fell short. A record of 4 wins and 6 defeats was not what I had hoped for. Still, our performance can be considered a modest success. The Sanctii also failed to advance out of the group stage of their own Beach Cup, making that the second consecutive Beach Cup where their run ended in the group stage. However, for some reason, those Sanctii decided to exclude our National Baseball Team from the World Baseball Classic. Apparently, there is some kind of rule that says that the WBC must have exactly 60 teams and Peter Bach must have submitted his entry a few minutes too late. Still, I am stunned that newcomers got spots while the FFR got left out and Lycrabon, a former multi-time host, also got left out, just because we weren't among the first 60 nations to fax a signup form to Saintland or Maklohi Vai. Speaking of Maklohi Vai, the runners-up from the second U-15 World Cup will not be competing in this edition.

Speaking of scandal, did you hear about how the World Cup, the most prestigious one to be specific, has decided to limit the number of teams in qualifying to 182 this year. There were 202 last year. Why do they need to exclude many nations that competed a year ago? I just don't get it. Actually, the other 2 bids for the World Cup wanted to exclude even more teams, so is it any surprise that the WCC members, to reduce the risk that they would be excluded, chose Audioslavia and the Inevitable Syndicate as hosts? I must say that, after last year's marathon, I look forward to a 10 match World Cup qualifying campaign this year, but this did not need to happen at the expense of many nations being excluded from the World Cup. Why can't deserving nations, such as the Free Republics and Saintland and a few others, get automatic spots in the final 32? Come to think of it, why can't we have more than 32 teams in a World Cup finals?

At this U-15 World Cup, our team will be anchored by Porvaldur Hinriksson and William Walls. Both of them are veterans of 2 Di Bradini Cups and an entire World Cup Cycle. They will provide the team with the veteran leadership that it needs. For the first time ever, we will be allowing girls to compete on our National Team. I have decided that Zrina Martinovic, Melania Lucchesi, Roberta Villalobos and Connie Chase are good enough to play on the U-15 National Team. I have also decided to include Sachiya Inoue from Noburu Taiyou, one of our Federation's colonies. As every schoolchild knows, Noburu Taiyou is located in Esportiva. The island nation sneak-attacked one of our naval bases several decades ago. As the song goes, Noburu Taiyou soon heard Mother Freedom start ringing her bell and felt like the whole wide world was raining down on them, Courtesy of the Blue and the White.

After we went through the trouble of putting a boot through Noburu Taiyou for having the audacity to bomb our nation for no reason whatsoever, we generously decided not to annex them. We also generously decided to allow them to keep their own culture and operate as a colony of the FFR. This provided us with a vital foothold in the region of Esportiva. While Esportiva may not be a world power like Atlantian Oceania or Rushmore, Esportiva is one of the most important regions in the world, so it is vital that we maintain a foothold in that region. Noburu Taiyou is that foothold in the region. They still speak Japanese and they maintain their culture. However, we did institute mandatory English education in their schools, which are actually run by the government. The 10% cap on taxation does not apply to Noburu Taiyou, which is not particularly of concern to us. They aren't Republicans, in any real sense, so only the Radicals care much about their rights.

From my experience, I have discovered that the Taiyouese are similar in many ways to Sanctii, but without the religiosity. These are traits that Mr. Theriault especially admires. Since Sachiya is one of the more talented young Taiyouese soccer players in recent years, I have judged him worthy of a spot on the squad. Watching his seriousness, I can only respect him and hope that he becomes an example to the rest of the team. While I enjoy having fun as much as anybody, there is a time and a place for that. When we are competing against the best that foreigners have to offer, we need to take these competitions seriously. When we do, there is not a foreign team that can beat us.

Now, you may be wondering who we will be playing in the U-15 World Cup. There are 32 teams in this Cup, so those teams were drawn into 8 groups of 4. We were drawn into Group H. That means that we will play all 3 of our group stage matches in the city of Boston. Our first opponent will be Ko-oren. Second, we will face Darmen. Both nations are respected nations in the world of international sports and always tough opposition. Finally, we will face Furellum. Furellum were the runners-up at the last U-15 World Cup. They will likely be as determined to win this year's U-15 as our U-21 side was to win this year's Di Bradini Cup. It looks like we will have no easy matches in the group stage, but that's exactly the way we want it to be. Bring on the best, so we can show the world that Republican athletes are just better than the rest.

Massimiliano Abdullahi is the Assistant Manager for the Free Republics National Soccer Team. He was previously the Assistant Manager at Petrograd United, during the tenure of Rule Theriault. Just 26 years old, Massimiliano has been an assistant to Rule Theriault since he graduated high school, where Rule Theriault was his team's assistant. His only managerial experience so far was in the ninth edition of the Beach Cup, where a Republican side composed entirely of U-15 players went 4-6 in the group stage, playing against adult opposition. He will be managing the U-15 National Team in the upcoming 5th edition of the U-15 World Cup in the Northern Sunrise Islands.

While gathering at 95X International Airport for the flight to Northern Sunrise Islands, Jocelyn Lola immediately noticed her old friend from the fourth edition of the competition.

"KRISTA!" she screams excitedly, while running up to give her a friendly hug.

"Ah, thanks Lolagirl," the now-assistant coach says, then regains her composure. "Anyway, I'm your lead assistant coach now, you really shouldn't do that anymore."

"Well, I know you're a bit busy," the now-fifteen-year-old Lola says, "how are you?"

"Very well," Beal replies, "you know I sat at the end of the SC Cascadia bench last season, but it was great to be there. And when I become a starter, making the playoffs each season is going to be a tough act to follow. But enough about me, how about you?"

Lola smiles, "I'm glad I can come back as goalkeeper and even start!"

"Then, you know I'm going to have to criticize you as a coach, and we have to leave our friendship outside the stadium."

Lola gives Beal a confused look, so Beal replies "I'll be explaining more of that later. It's a team conduct thing."

"Yeah," Lola says as verbal filler. "Speaking of the team, who's back?"

"You, Alden, and Grady. Everyone else is 16 or 17 and playing in either 'X or ESL."

"Or," Lola gets smart, "is your boyfriend."

"He's actually, well, you know that he's, uh, you know, so he still gives some people that look. But it turns out I'm the only girl who gave him a chance and would you believe it that he proposed to me because he actually fell in love with me?"

Both shriek in excitement at the same time.

"Only thing is," Beal explains, "I get to pick out and wear the dress."

The craziness wore off, when Lola asks about her other teammates.

"Speaking of that," she asks, "what ever happened to Floyd and Chrystal? They were really close."

Beal, surprised Lola didn't follow the last AOCAF, says "well, Floyd was expelled from the national team, and cut from the Altitude. Problems he has to learn to deal with on his own. As for Chrystal, it's like she's fallen off the map, not even I know what happened to her."

"There's nothing we can do for them?"

"Well, as your assistant coach," as Beal's tone changes from friendly to managerial, "you should focus on what you can do for yourself. So, let me talk about your focus as you'll be playing a lot more minutes this time around…"

An analysis of Callumackbar U-15's Key Players:

William Tran
The only player in the squad to have made over 5 starts in the Callumackbar Premier League. Tran broke into the first team midway through the season and quickly established himself as their number 1, playing every game until the end of the season. His reactions saves are already among the best in the league and his distribution is top drawer. However he always has the potential to make costly errors, however that should improve worth age and experience.

Roman Cohen
The youngest member of the squad and the youngest player to ever play in the Premier League when he made his debut from the bench on the final day of the season. Starring for Wolverhampton's U-21 team playing against players more than 10 years older than him, he is already showing to have a big future ahead of him.

Boyd Morris
The most senior player in the squad, turning 16 a few weeks after the World Cup will end. Although yet to make his debut for Oldtown, his season-long loan in the lower leagues proved he just had to be Callumackbar's main man for this tournament, scoring a fantastic 28 goals in 42 appearances.

Then it was on, as bear and leopard went at it hammer and tongs, pitching brute strength against agility. When coach Zoric walked in, Decebal had Ezra over his shoulder while Ezra had his arms wrapped around his opponent's neck.

"What in the seven hells is going on here?" roared the coach, his face turning red with anger. "He started it!" both boys replied in unison, springing apart and pointing paws at each other.
"The truth, now!" demanded Zoric, "or neither of you will be playing for the rest of the tournament."
Slowly the story came out. After hearing it, the coach said "So, all this is over a t-shirt? Of all the ridiculous things....Ok, here's what's going to happen. Ezra, you are going to show a bit more respect for the feelings of your teammates. You are not at home here, there are other people about and you will respect that, or I shall have you out of this team faster than a magic arrow. Understood?"
"Yes, sir."
"Okay then. You may go. And pick that shirt up." he added, as the leopard started to leave. Turning to Decebal, he said, "If you have a problem with another teammate, you come to me. I will not have bullying in my team. Is that clear?"
"Yes."
"Good, you can go too."

Zoric watched him leave. Sighing, he shook his head. He'd thought he knew what he was signing up for, after all he'd raised two kids of his own, but keeping discipline and order in this team was tougher than he could have imagined. When they were out on the pitch it was easy to forget that the players were children, but off the field it was a different story. The unofficial team motto sprung into his mind. "Quid Infantes Sumus." Sometimes he wondered just how true that was.

Laux and Karl-Heinz, best friends and brothers, sat on their beds in the hotel room in Northern Sunrise Islands. They held consoles in their hands, playing the newest version of GAFF Football, the German American States' soccer game. They were playing the Nordbergen Derby. They were trying to forget the result of today's 2-1 loss to Nouvell Ecosse.
Laux and Karl were doing the regular thing for teenagers, trash-talking and talking about the game.
Suddenly, Coach Florian Klopp burst into their room.

"Team meeting in 5 minutes." He said coldly. He slammed the door.

"I wonder what this could be." Laux remarked, voice dripping in sarcasm.

"Lighten up," Karl said, elbowing him in the side."Lets just hope he doesn't drill us out."

But when everybody reached the site of the meeting, Klopp did just that. He made it perfectly clear that they would be winning the next game.

The Radamacher brothers were about to head back to their room when Klopp called after one of them.

"Laux, stay behind a bit."

Karl punched his brother playfully. "I'll wait for you here. Go on."
Laux walked over to the coach. Klopp put his hand on Laux's shoulder.

"Laux, I know how stressful this is for you, but you are one of the leaders of the team. You know it, I know it, and everybody else knows it. I need you to take the leadership role, and that starts with the basics. Instead of playing GAFF, study some film on your laptop, will ya?"

"Sure Coach." Laux responded."You can count on me."
