"New Coltsboro Dandelions Sweep Away The Competition!"

Editor: Double Speak

Both soccer enthusiasts and critics alike continue to find themselves baffled by the New Coltsboro Dandelions, official representative of Kaldus in this year's Equestrian Cup, who have just secured a spot in the quarterfinals for the fledgling pony nation. The Dandelions have proven their mettle on the field time and time again, exemplifying the very nature of athleticism, professionalism, poise, and politesse. According to Team Captain Sunflower Seed, quote, "I was pretty worried there for a while, I won't lie! In our last game, Gum Drop said she was feeling too nervous to play, so we told her she could sit this one out. She's feeling much better now. I was so relieved to hear her say that! The most important thing is that we're all having fun and doing our very best!". The Dandelions then proceeded to treat their recovered comrade to snow cones. Once again, our elusive, radiant Empress has chosen to grace the team with high praise:

"I'm really enjoying watching them all play! Sunny is such a nice Captain, and Water Lily is having the time of her life! I was really upset to hear about Gum Drop, though... the poor dear! I sure hope she's feeling better before the next game!"

In a reflexive burst of activity, secret service agents dove out of some nearby bushes, shuffled Empress Silver Melody into her private limousine, and proceeded to drive her to an undisclosed location; there, she was taken to a nearby helipad and flown to Aryl's own Capital Medical Center, the most highly-advanced, state-of-the-art hospital facility in the entire Empire of Kaldus. She was greeted by a swarm of doctors, nurses, patients, and well-wishers, glancing around the halls with a baffled expression before being brought into one of the hospital's private patient rooms, where starting centerfield defender Gum Drop was being lavishly attended to. After some initial shock followed by a brief period of confusion, Empress Melody made the following comment:

"Woooooow... and the room is completely paid for? Faaaaaancy... I particularly like the ice sculpture of a swan in the corner. Heh, I didn't know Kaldus' hospitals took such great pride in caring for its patients!

The only thing I don't quite follow is, why is Gum Drop still here? She told me that the doctors wouldn't let her leave, even after she said multiple times that she was okay! Gum Drop explained to me that she just felt kinda queasy before the game, was all. I went to have a chat with one of the on-call physicians, and this guy tells me "our dean of medicine was informed that Kaldus' Empress has decreed that Gum Drop must be in pristine health by the time the next game starts, or we'd all be out of a job". Can you believe this nonsense?! I have half a mind to write an angry letter to this so-called Empress!

So then I asked the doctor who Kaldus' Empress was, right? I mean, I'm kinda ashamed to say that I don't actually know who she is - to be totally fair, I only just moved here a few weeks ago - but the doctor just kinda shrugged. Makes me feel better that I'm not the only one in the dark. Poor Gum Drop, though. She told me she's gotta go get groceries, and they still won't let her go home!"

Kaldus' illustrious Empress was then carted away to her extravagant estate, which was filled to the brim with ice-sculpture swans and a haggard-looking stallion, under the supervision of two burly pegasi in very professional-looking black suits, chipping away at a large block of ice in a panicked fervor. Gum Drop was released minutes after, and was escorted to the hotel the Dandelions are currently staying at; her room was packed with balloons, get-well cards, and hundreds of grocery bags stuffed with all manner of delectable consumables. This reporter has absolutely no idea how she plans to cart it all home. Hail the New Coltsboro Dandelions! Hail Empress Silver Melody! And, as always, hail the great Empire of Kaldus! Or else.

Hello, and welcome to yet another edition of Equestria Cup tonight! With the group stage coming to a close, all scores have been settled, and the fate of our competitors has been determined. Having already clinched a spot in the quarterfinal, Team EFCI had a bye today. In other Group D action, Allinlia and Cevalo Nacio played to a 3-3 draw, while Shrillland emerged victorious over Yorobia 2-1. What does this all mean? It means that the Shrills have won first place in Group D due to tiebreak rules, Allinlia has been eliminated, and the Green Rovers are headed to Cloudsdale to face the Group A winner Grand Pegasus Enclave. The Enclave will set the bar and truly test if the Rovers are the elite team they seem to be. Now, we go live to Appleoosa for a press conference with the EFCI players before they board their flight to the City in the Sky:

Q1: So, how did the team spend today’s bye?
Harper Green: With two bye days coming up, we obviously took it much easier than on gameday, but the team still went out for a good group run, then hit the gym for some strength and conditioning. Afterwards, it was time to “go to school.” The coach is really fond of us watching other games as much as possible.

Q2: Which games did you watch?
Silver Lining: Not watch, STUDY. We really find it helps our game to study others, and it seems like the best way to learn their strengths and weaknesses. To get back to the question, we tried to spend time on every match, but we paid special attention to Groups A and D. After all, we knew we’d have to play one of the Group A teams.

Q3: What is the general mood towards today’s results in Group D?
Pomme DeTerre: The mood? Really? The results couldn’t have been worse for us! Thanks to that stupid tiebreak rule, Shrillland stole first place again! I know deep down that we were much more deserving of that position, considering we only allowed 2 goals! To make matters worse, Allinlia barely made it a contest. Just one more goal from them and Yorobia, and we would be cruising our way to the semifinals! But no, we have to face a group winner, and the stubborn jarheads of the Enclave, no less!

Q4: Okay, now, calm down. Lucky, what does your team need to do in order to move on?
Lucky Clover: In my opinion, we need to do exactly what we did last night against Cevalo. If Crystal Clear and his crew can shut them down like they have every single match, then we’re starting off on the right foot. Our main concern is to get that insurance goal before things turn south. If we can go up 2-0, the rest is history. Chemistry is key for us, and above all, we need to express the Emerald pride we carried into the tournament and the unbreakable spirit we showed in our final stand.

Shamrock Hills: As for the Enclave, I have nothing but respect for their team and traditions. They will be a tough team to handle especially in a pegasus town, but with that being said, every team has its weaknesses, and we’ve shown we can take on any elite team. First, this is an attack-happy team. If our defense just does their thing, we’re in the clear. Second, this is a nation bent on order and pride. We need to jar them in any way possible, because they will crumble under pressure. Also, we have to go all out in our rebel spirit, and I know our fans won’t let us down. They’ve been behind us since day 1. Finally, this a team which lacks in power and has a wide formation focused on the neutral zone. If we can utilize the cross well enough and dominate the open field, we’ll win for sure.

Q5: Any thoughts on playing in Cloudsdale?
Pot O’ Gold: Oh, I’m really excited. I know Lucky is, too, being a Wingerick kid and all. Soarin’ just called us earlier to let us know he’ll be there to cheer us and Lucky on. He’s a huge hoofball fan. It’s going to be a real comfort for the many pegasus players on our squad, but this benefits the Enclave as much as it does us. I'm just happy I'll get to start in this so-called "Pegasus Showdown," but I'll be sure to help out the other non-pegasi on our team to adjust to the field.

Q6: Last question--Witchpractice, what can you tell us about this bizarre boa constrictor fiasco?
Witchpractice: I have no comment, except that it's a load of malarkey.
Malarkey: I didn't do anything!
Witchpractice: Not you, Malarkey!

And with that, the Green Rovers are off to Cloudsdale. This is their moment to shine. Time will tell if this young team is up to the challenge. Until then,
E! F! C! I! Rah! Rah! Rah!
Eirinn go brach, and let's go Rovers!

5 Manetreal 4 0 1 3 3 7 −4 1

Reporting from ponyville

The Strawbee national team is enjoying the warmhospitality of the city of Ponyville in the Equestrian States while they can, as they prepare for their quaterfinals match against Skallen. The small desert dictaorship locked up the Group C championship with a 1-0 win over Fox Den courtesy of an earlyAl Fisher goal.

It's all good feelings right now among the Strawbeean players as the Allinlian Football League has been rumored to "definitely" be interested in many of the Strawbee players. The young amateurs may not be amateurs for much longer as they managed to outperform the Allinlian team which failed to advance out of group D with it's 3-3 tie against Cevalo Nacio.

Miss Strawberry, the leader of Strawbee has been spotted in Ponyville as well and is likely to be in attendance at the Skallen game as she was for the Strawbeean baseball team's playoff game against WBC finalist Darmen.

Skallen seems like a tough team but not necessarily any tougher than Poni or the Equestrian States, teams Strawbee has faced before. It managed to barely escape a tough group A but it's modest record should not be underestimated. International sports analysts have Strawbee as the favored team in the matchup but coach Grindstone knows that if this young team takes anything for granted than they will be doomed in any match against seasoned veterans.

"Every team steps it up to another level once they reach the playoffs, we must train harder and make sure our focus is there against Skallen, if we can exercise our game plan I am confident we can win. We'll just have to see what happens. They are a very disciplined and professional team. We need to find a way to match that if we want to win." -Grindstone

Today brings news on a horrific scale to the Federation in relation to the formerly renowned and beloved team referred to as the 'Mazenguard Maulers'. At approximately 3:22 PM SST, as they returned to Mazenguard on board a state plane, the IUNS was tipped off by a member of the team who will at this time remain unnamed for safety reasons, that the team planned on, and had already committed numerous acts of sabotage, treason and sedition in the name of undesirable groups such as the as of now almost totally eradicated 'Råd for Frihed Skallen'. Upon arrival at Stor Arbejdere Airport, a full regiment of IUNS Officers quickly and abruptly took the team into custody to await interviews and gather evidence. Everypony and person here in Skallen are truly in shock at the horror of having trust betrayed by a team of individuals so loved and trusted, it is truly a dark day. More information is to be withheld until it is deemed acceptable to release, as it stands however, all contact with the accused is to be severed. Længe Leve Den Pony Revolution!

That's alright ES, do what you have to RL.

IC:
Good evening Sports fans, this is SBC1's Coverage of the Equestria Cup IV Quarterfinals. I'm Golden Boot, here with Anthony Simmons, and despite the stunning news about the Mazenguard Maulers, it was a great day for Shrill Football. Shrillland's already doing better than we did in the last cup, with a stunning victory against Kriegiersien. It started at "17 when Sun Strike, taking Lightning's place today, got the first goal of the game after taking possession from Rain Crasher near midfield, and getting it into the goal, then the Kriegiersien team got their strike in at "29 when Code Away got a straight-ahead goal when Rapid Star just barely missed the ball with his hoof, a 1-1 tie at halftime.
Then it all changed in the second half when Blue Water managed to take the ball back from Code Away at "52 just when he was about to kick it to the goal, and managing to run all the way to the other side and get the next goal for the Shrills. Then at "85 Peter Morgan of the Shrills got the Ball in a long kick from midfield into the Goal, giving Shrillland the 3-1 victory.
A great day for Shrillland in the Quarter finals, and Shrillland will be going on to Stalliongrad tomorrow against Strawbee in the Semifinals, and you can see it and the other semifinals match of Kaldus vs. The Grand Pegasus Enclave tomorrow here on SBC1, right now stay tuned for our new medical Drama, Trenchton General.

"Strawbee wins. And worse.. we are sitting here on the tribune, while we should play against Shrilland", said Tuxedo, chewing some Popcorn.
"I think it's a nice game."
"Are less spectators here then else?"
"Seems something happened in Equestrian States that is more important than Soccer."
"Unbelievable. What could be more important?"

"A concert maybe?", sniffed Kelnocky holding his handy in his big, shaking hands.
"How did the mates who found the right stadium in Manechester do?"
Kelnocky nearly cried.
"They lost."
"Against Shrilland? How much? Who scored?"
"Who cares? They lost. And just because you said I should enter Ponyville into the Navi. And now we are sitting here with 13 players watching the wrong game while the others lost. And I'll miss the concert, we have to fly home."

The others looked at each other.

"Look, coach."
"What?"
"We decided to pool money so you can stay and watch the concert, while we fly home. Well, our homes, not back to Kriegiersien."
"Really?", Kelnocky dashed away a tear.
"Yes. Here", some money floated from Daisy to Kelnocky, barely avoiding a hungry bird.
"I love you guys and girls. Friendship is really magic" Kelnocky whispered and huged the next three necks he got hold of.

Equestria Cup Championship in Reach?
Strawbee starting to believe as they advance to semifinals with 4-2 victory over Skallen

reporting from Stalliongrad, Equestrian States

The semifinals for Equestria Cup IV are underway and we couldn't be more excited! The team celebrated late into the evening after it's exciting 4-2 victory over an older and more experienced team of professionals from Skallen. Team Captain Al Fisher put on an offensive show as he performed the hat trick, scoring 3 goals with another added by forward Earl Warbler. The team must now prepare for a match against the group D champions, Shrillland a team that earlier had an impressive 3-1 win over a very strong looking team from Kriegiersien

All the group winners defeated their group runner-up opponents yesterday making a final four of group A winner s,Grand Pegasus Enclave, Group B winners, Kaldus, Group D winners, Shrillland, and of course, group C winners Strawbee.

Shrillland represents Strawbee's toughest challenge yet as their win over Kreigsien yesterday demonstrates, the young guns of Strawbee have already proven that they can hang tough with more experienced professional footballers so it should make for an exciting match if Strawbee can keep up the high energy and tenactity they brought to Ponyville against Skallen

The Enclave is the winner of the very difficult group A, they will face off against Kaldus, which has had a perfect tournament so far, going undefeated and not even so much as tieing any of their opponents, riding high on 5 straight victories thus far.

Looking at this group of 4 it seems like any of these teams have an even chance of winning the tournament, Strawbee can punch a ticket to the finals against either the GPE or Kaldus with a victory over Shrillland, it will not be easy but the team seems ready and hungry to bring home their nation's first international sports crown. Tune in to see them face Skallen in Stalliongrad on Channel 1, yes the official government TV channel is featuring the game, and Strawberry herself will be live in Stalliongrad to cheer on the team like the last game, in full fan gear, jersey, cap, etc. no less. Good luck boys!

Cloudsdale! Wow!

Jetstream couldn't help but smile widely as she trotted down one of the open, cloudy streets of the magnificent, floating city, neck twisting left and right as she looked at EVERYTHING; It was so much fancier, colorful, and full of pegasi than their cities back home!

The Equestria Cup had always been played on the ground, so when the Enclave team found out they were playing in a stadium above the clouds, they were all extremely pleased. Jetstream sighed happily as she thought back to the match against the Crystal Islands. The familiar, light feeling of the clouds beneath her hooves, the fresh smell of high altitude air, the wind whistling through her air as she slid between two defenders....it was even better than playing back home. Playing on a field they were used to, the Enclave easily scored two goals through the match, and secured their place in the semi-finals.

The mare trotted over to an open bench and sat herself on it, watching as crowds of happy pegasi trotted by. She let herself smile as she watched, wondering if this is what all pegasi cities back home looked like before the Great War. Her mind then started to think about her family. What if they had lived in a safe place like Cloudsdale, free from the dangerous of their homeland.....?

No, she shook her head, trying to rid her mind of such poisonous thoughts. She had a match to play tomorrow against Kaldus, a team that had a perfect record so far in the tournament. Captain Blitzkrieg had spent time trying to find out information about their opponents (information is the most powerful weapon, after all), but couldn't turn up with anything; not even a team roster!

Jetstream chuckled as she looked up into the clear skies above Cloudsdale. Whoever these mysterious Kaldus players were, she would play her best game possible against them.

She looked around at Cloudsdale.

If only they could play again on that wonderful cloud field....

Pierre Sapphire: Greetings, fans of Poni's Finest Soccer Team! I am your host, Pierre Sapphire, the unicorn! We are still keeping a strong footing within the tournament as we regain some lost cheers by defeating Mantreal! Unfortunately our team lately is suffering from the politicians who were backing them up before, mainly because the Anti-Bears Party are no longer allowed any contact after a highly controversial gaffe from their candidate, Fredrick Young. Fortunately however, Polarity Party candidate Katherine Lancaster, wife of Chancellor Kevin Lancaster, has donated five million Poni dollars to fund the team!

The current positions are currently unchanged for the most part within the teams, as no players are currently needing to be switched, and Star Winger is proving to be an excellent opponent against the enemy players. Critics have wondered whether or not Star Winger will hold up her determination to win though, as a lawyer has been working to prove her innocence. The lawyer's case is currently winning with the revealed corruption of Poni's Parliament making a tragic mistake by--

(The conversation is interrupted by cameramen arguing with the Pierre Sapphire.)

Apparently, I shouldn't be finishing my last sentence because the government is worried something could go wrong, but I may vote for the resistance, so forget them! Parliament recently removed all funding from the military to drastically reduce taxation, at the cost of exposing their corruption. Anyways, this shows Star Winger may be innocent regardless of the situation and could be released if she wanted to! Onto the weather--

(More cameramen show up to speak with the Pierre Sapphire.)

We have some breaking news with Star Winger. We have her on camera now.

Star Winger: Hi there Sapphire. Before any of those yellow journalists start spreading rumors, I just want to disprove them: I am not backing down from the Equestrian Cups! I may despise almost everything about Poni, there is one thing I do appreciate: This team. These people have became my friends overtime and criminal or not, I wish to stay and support this gang. If that means making those corrupt politicians happy, then so be it, for I am never backing down from the ponies I--

Pierre Sapphire: I'm sorry, we're experiencing some technical difficulties, we'll be right back...
(Sapphire turns to a crewmember.) How dare she speak like that! I hope that team loses... (The broadcast cuts to the weather.)

Good evening sports fans, this is SBC1's Coverage of the Equestria Cup IV Semifinals. I'm Golden Boot, and I'm Anthony Simmons, and we are both proud to say, THE SHRILLS ARE GOING TO THE FINALS!
That's right, after four cups Shrillland is going to the Equestria Cup Final here in Canterlot tomorrow. We were against Strawbee today and it was an incredible match, the first major event was at "11, when Strawbee Defender Lemon Lime received the Red Card after a nasty argument with a ref over the ball going out of bounds, then the Shrills got their own troubles at "38 when Splash Snow kicked the wrong way and tripped on the field, and is now out with a torn ligament, he will have to sit out the Finals.
Then in the second half Strawbee Striker Al Fisher managed to make some near-misses at both "50 and "71, but it was at "76 when Lightning got the ball into the goal for the Shrills, the only goal of the match, and a major goal for us Shrills.
Shrillland is now going up against The Grand Pegasus Enclave right here in Canterlot tomorrow, and President Rarity has flown from New Maxia to be here for the Shrill Team to watch them hoist the Equestria Cup High. Will they do it? Will Shrillland get its first Championship since the Equestria Cup's inception? Find out with us Tomorrow Night at 8:00 SDT here on SBC1 where we will show the Championship Match of Equestria Cup IV. Good night everyone!

Sweet, sweet victory.

Jetstream hoofpumped as she scored the final goal of their match against Kaldus (A particularly wonderful hooking kick into the corner of the net in the last minute of the game). Bam. Three to one. She liked that score.

At the last Equestria Cup, the Enclave had been knocked out just a few steps away from the final. A pathetic attempt to win the Cup.

But no, this year, their team was better than ever. Last year they had excuses. They had blamed their loses on the weather, the ground, the unfamiliar terrain, the shock of seeing other real civilizations for the first time....but not this year.

This year there would be no blame. There would only be their skill at work. They were stronger than ever before, and they would not falter. They would not take one step back. They had already defeated last year's champions. They had defeated a team that had gone undefeated for the entire Cup so far.

They would win.

She grinned as she bro-hoofed a few of her team mates as they rushed her at the end of the match, taking in their joy and happiness. All the while she thought of her missing family.

If they couldn't make it here today to watch her play, she would win this cup in their memory.

Captain Blitzkrieg was all smiles as he trotted up to her on the field. Jetstream knew that he was coming not only to congratulate the team, but to already start preparing them mentally for the Finals.

They had come this far to show the world how pegasi played Hoofball; this time, they would not fail.

For the Enclave!

Unbelievable? Well, BELIEVE IT! IT'S TRUE! Good evening everyone, as you just saw right here on SBC1, Shrillland has taken the Equestria Cup for the first time! I'm Golden Boot, here with Anthony Simmons and Tony, that was one hell of a match wasn't it?
Indeed it was Golden and an active one as well, let's look at the highlights, first at "9 the Grand Pegasus Enclave's Captain Blitzkrieg got the first goal of the game when he lived up to his name, kicking that ball right in the net before Rapid Star could see it, then at "22 the Shrills got their first goal of the game when Blue Water intercepted the ball, passed it to Splash Snow who kicked it right from midfield into the goal, the game was now 1-1. Then at "40 was the second Shrill Goal, when Tea Leaf got it in, dodging the Goalie's wings,Tiberius is the first Griffin on the GPE Squad by the way, and making it 2-1.
Then in the second half Blitzkrieg does it again at "64, before Tea Leaf can get the ball in the net, there he went he was that fast, he snatched it away and dodged and darted and kicks it right in. and then when it looked like we'd be going into extra time, at "87 Midfielder Peter Morgan takes the ball kicks. and. he. gets. it in! The crowd started roaring, both here in Canterlot and back home, all over Shrillland crowds went wild at screens and in bars after Shrillland won the cup 3-2, and even the President who, admittedly is not that big into sports said, "Normally sports aren't my thing, all that mud and dirt you know. But these ponies know what they're doing, and that's saying a lot in this tournament. Congratulations guys! We all love you!"
And indeed we do Tony, indeed we do. Congratulations to Shrillland for their victory and for bringing the Equestria Cup home, it will sit proudly at the Shrill Football hall of fame when it's not making appearances elsewhere, which it will be for a while. We hope you enjoyed this night and this victory, and will see us again back on Football Night in Shrillland next week on SBC3, for now this is Golden Boot with Anthony Simmons and on behalf of the whole crew here in the Equestrian States and back home in New Maxia, Good night everypony!
