The Teinohikira Chronicle

Teinohikira embarrassed at 2nd game

Despite having a terrific game yesterday, Teinohikira got blown-out by Qazox 4-1. Qazox was just too much for the Teinohikira players too handle. The terrific players of Qazox fought hard and long and went on to win. The Teinohikirian players were exausted and tired, but played great, but "not great enough"as Coach Mark Bilbo says. The play-by-play went as follows:
Period 1:
Qazox-Greg Thompson-LW 18:45
Qazox-Issac Maynerd-C 4:21
Qazox-Greg Thompson-LW 1:34

END OF 1ST Qazox: 3 Teinohikira: 0

Period 2:
Teinohikira-Alexei Borodin-LWF 12:47

END OF 2ND Qazox: 3 Teinohikira: 1

Period 3:
Qazox-Hannah Askanti-RW 11:17

END OF 3RD Qazox: 4 Teinohikira: 1
Though Coach Mark Bilbo of Teinohikira was not upset that his team lost, he was still interviewed after the game "I'm not mad that we lost, I'm not mad at my players, I'm mad at the fact that we didn't play defensivly enough." Coach Bilbo also said that "My team played great, but not great enough." "Qazox is a good team and we wish them luck throughout the series." "We hope to have a better game angainst the well-balanced team of Tutlingburg tomorrow, we will practice hard.""

THE ROCKET REPORT

RESULT IS THERE, THE CHEMISTRY IS NOT

High Jessieville, Quintessence of Dust- Following the opening matchday tie against the host in a match that marked the third time that Newmanistan has played the hosting nation in their house on a matchday one in a World Cup of Hockey (record now shows two draws and a loss in those games), the story was Trevor Anderson. The phenom in the ENHL reportedly showed up to the morning skate eight minutes late and was benched for the first period of play. We thought it was very odd that he was not playing and wondered if he, perhaps, got injured in the pre-game skate. Coach Hennessy was tight-lipped about the incident, but it was Trevor Anderson that made the punishment public with a Putnam Lake reporter. “So I walk into the meeting eight minutes late, and I apologize for it,” Anderson said in the interview, “The coach tells me he was going to punish me and I accepted it. There is no excuse for being late, but then he just carried on and doubled the punishment and it became about sitting me for the first period. Here we are in a critical game, and he sits me for a period to prove a point. Even then, you know, I was just like, ok, you’re the coach. Then he fines me for it after the game. It’s like he wanted me to cry about the punishment or some stupid shit like that. It’s like man, what more do I have to do, you keep adding to the punishment.” Unfortunately, the locker room seemed to be split. Casey Vernance told reporters that, “I think Trevor was upset by the fact that coach said the punishment would be one thing, and then he just kept saying it would be more and more. It’s not really my place to say, but if I was in Trevor’s situation, and I apologized for it quickly as he did, I would just want to know my punishment, get it out of the way, and have it be a done deal.” Most of the team though agreed with coach Hennessy, such as captain Jacques Carpentier, “There are two sides to every story. Trevor did not simply apologize as he said. He just wanted to brush it off. You know, Trevor is a terrific talent but I feel I am playing with a different Trevor Anderson now. The one I played with last time was a hard-worker, never late and usually early, and wanted to do everything right and properly. I guess it’s not a coincidence that is when he was on an entry-level contract. Now he makes millions, and it has gotten to his head, and by a lot.”

Anderson did not seek to make amends prior to the game with Gordonisia, and in fact he may have made things worse when an alleged photo of him and baseball star Jessica Brasfield was leaving a local bar together at 2:30 AM. Brasfield, along with a couple other members of the championship baseball team are in Quintessence of Dust to support the hockey team. Evidently, Brasfield showed a lot of support towards the hockey star from Putnam Lake. Anderson did make the pre-game meetings this morning, so there was no new controversy as far as that was concerned, and felt it was none of people’s business to say what he had done last night. Jessica Brasfield, when asked, told reporters that, “You weren’t all born yesterday, were you?” in her typical witty manner when asked about her and Anderson. Members of the team did not seem to care too much about what they may have been doing, other then saying that Trevor needs to show a little more maturity. Maybe Brasfield can teach him that, said one player wishing to remain anonymous, because the baseball team, despite some of their antics, is always a very focused group.

Then there are some other issues that won’t go away. Slava Kolosov and Matt Kalinski still seem to be at odds over what happened in the last World Cup of Hockey. “I’m sorry, but I can never trust that man. I’ll play with him and hope to work together but anyone who thinks it is ok to do what he does (gamble on WcoH games, allegedly including Rockets games), I just cannot trust.” Kolosov claims it is just for fun and he does not wager on Rockets games, “I not ever bet on my team,” said Kolosov, still trying to master the English language, “I wish that Matt and others would know that. I play as hard as I can and I proud to do it for my country.” Captain Jacques Carpentier does not think this will be an issue, “It’s a good topic for the media I think, and while there is great disagreement between most of us and Slava about his gambling addiction, I have become comfortable that his bets will not compromise any of the efforts of the team.”

The lapses in communication showed on the ice as the Rockets were quite sluggish, and facing a team from Gordonisia that knew a win over Newmanistan would serve notice to the world that they could be a legitimate hockey power. Their goalie, Aaron Kelly, looked real good in the first period, even though most of the 15 shots he faced in the stanza were shots that most goalies would be able to stop, and every goalie at this level could. Fortunately, the defense was holding up just enough, and it led to a scoreless first period. It was early in the second where Newmanistan was at their best, and Ryan Spencer was the man picking up the slack. Three minutes in, he made Jack Lancer look like a junior-league defensemen with two shifty moves to get around him before blasting a slapper just under the crossbar to put Newmanistan in front. When Spencer unloads that shot, it is difficult for anyone to stop, but Kelly would get another chance to make a save on a Spencer slapper two minutes later after Ryan was set up nicely for a one-timer by Jarkko Koskinen, and Kelly failed to stop that shot as well. Newmanistan had the 2-0 lead, and seemed to be in command even though the rest of the lines weren’t in sync. According to coach Hennessy, “the second line is why we won this game. Ryan, Jarkko, and Jacques Carpentier did everything out on the ice that I would ask them too, and the 3rd line gave us good shifts as well. The top line though, well, they were a -2 for the day and that number doesn’t lie.” Gordonisia got one back towards the end of the second period from Mike Wozniak to make it 2-1. The score remained that way for most of the third period, with the Rockets doing enough to keep their fans from getting too concerned, but at the same time wishing they could put in another goal. The Rockets would get that goal at 12:07 of the period, on a slapper from the point from 19-year old defensemen Kevin DeWolf. It was a big goal, because Gordonisia would get a second goal in the game, but it would be too little too late. Newmanistan outshot their opponent by a 39-24 margin.

All in all, the team is happy to get the win, but they are going to have to do something about the issues that are effecting the team if they are going to have a chance to win this World Cup or even win the group. The next opponent will be Taeshan, and hockey is a sport where our domination of them has been very evident, perhaps second to only baseball. It’s a good opponent for the Rockets to face at this point as a win over Taeshan could be a nice kick start for this team going forward.

Larry stood in the locker room with his team, half who were changed half who weren't" Alright, I'll admit you did better."But that doesn't mean practice stops. Same deal, every day here at 6 in the morning. Miller, you are supposed to be good, keep this up and your off the team. Jordan, Thomas, work together, work on plays that require my center and both forwards. Now then, see you guys back here in a few hours"

As the linesman hauled him off Artie Weiss, Louis Guillemot screamed, "You bastard! You're going to pay! We'll tear you to fucking pieces!"

"You're going off too, buddy." the referee said.

"Me?! That was an attempt to injure right there, ref!"

"You want it to be ten minutes instead of two?"

Louis's face turned purple, but he held his tongue and sullenly made his way to the penalty box. Weiss, who had been assessed a minor interference penalty - a minor! - for quite deliberately smashing Brian Duborny into the boards, leaving the goaltender sprawled and dazed in the corner where he had gone to play the puck, was already in the other box and leering at him. Louis attempted to ignore Weiss, although the timekeeper was struggling to supress laughter as Weiss gesticulated wildly in Guillemot's direction.

As the penalties expired, they hit the ice at the same time and immediately found themselves racing for a loose puck. Louis had just gotten the tip of his blade on the puck and was about to launch it towards the centre line when his feet abruptly gave way. Focused on the puck, he hadn't seen Weiss, who he'd thought he'd outskated, sneak his stick between his feet and can-opener him down. And neither had the referees. The whistle went, but it wasn't to call a tripping penalty, it was an offside call. He skated towards the bench, all the while eyeballing the referees in disbelief.

Weiss quickly interposed himself between Louis and the nearest ref. The entire Kelssek bench heard him say, "Hey, don't hassle the refs, unless you're going to surrender to them, you froggy piece of shit. Go cram a poutine into your fat fucking face."

Standing behind the bench, Tim Callaghan gritted his teeth. He didn't have an out-and-out goon on the lineup; the roster space was far too valuable and the competition for spots far too intense to waste one on a guy who was just there to get into fights. But he had a fair array of toughies who could be relied on to ensure Artie didn't get away with this kind of disrespect.

He watched the Fanboyist line changes carefully, but for a different reason than to match lines this time. And when Artie next hit the ice he immediately thumped Sven Stefanovic on the back and said, "Get out there and give that Weiss fella a lesson."

Sven was over the boards like a shot and quickly began to give Weiss a series of bumps and shoves, small little shoulder checks as Weiss skated around, all the while jawing at him, "Drop the gloves, boy. Playtime's over, kiddy. Drop the goddamn gloves if you've got any balls at all." Smirking as Weiss turned to face him and jerked his arms downwards to throw off his gloves and stick, Sven followed suit. Weiss grabbed the front of his sweater. The bastard had turtled! Sven thought, and immediately he began whaling, as hard as he could, on Weiss's body. The linesmen were quick, though - much too quick, which was strange, and it was then that Sven realised it had been a feint. Weiss hadn't dropped his gloves at all.

"Misconduct, attempt to injure, instigator, you can take your pick, bud. There's only 3 minutes left in the period, you might as well head to the locker room and we'll sort out what you got." the referee said, loudly. More softly, he added, "It's shit, I know, but he didn't drop his gloves and you were clearly instigating. I'll give your team a chance, though."

Sven scowled as he went off, catching the frustrated, angry mood of his teammates as he went behind the bench and into the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms.

Weiss had the target painted on his back now, and every chance they got, every Kelssek player took to goad him. Every check that could be finished was finished, and few chances were missed to put Weiss on notice that he had broken The Code. But they wouldn't break The Code themselves, and they wouldn't get themselves into even worse trouble; on that note, Callaghan had been adamant. We are Kelssekian, we have pride in the sport, pride in the national game, and no one should stoop to that level.

Finally, it was Denis Roche who got the chance as a hard hit into the boards caused one of Weiss's gloves to come off. Roche tore Weiss's other glove off with his left hand and propelled his right fist into Weiss's nose. Weiss barely had time to react as three more punches found their spots.

"Hold up for a minute. Let them go. Better than having a brawl out here later." the lead referee said as the linesmen went in to break it up. Weiss had got his guard up and the two were now grappling with each other. Roche wriggled his left hand free and caught Weiss one more time on the cheekbone. Off balance, the two tumbled to the ice and with a barely perceptible nod the referee and the linesman stepped in to separate them.

The final score would be a good 3-0 win for Kelssek, but the real victory was the blood streaming from Weiss's nose as the linesman led him to the penalty box to serve the fighting penalty.

Cyst, QSPN faces fines, lawsuits in Sarzonia

8 June 2010 (ASP) --
Hours after Sarzonia's Communications Oversight Committee formally fined QSPN $18.5 million for offensive comments written by Ray Cyst and published by the network, the Incorporated Baseball Federation announced it was suing QSPN for $250 million for "slander and defamation of character."

Cyst was named as a co-defendant in the lawsuit. In addition, Sarzonia bench coach Geoff Yancey, also named as part of the prosecution's team, filed a separate $11.5 million lawsuit against Cyst for his actions. Yancey did not answer several telephone calls or e-mails seeking comment.

A statement from IBF chairman Louis Coletti said the sport's governing body in Sarzonia sought "punitive damages" in filing the lawsuit for that amount.

"We found the comments reprehensible, irresponsible and completely unbecoming of a network that heretofore had a reputation for fair coverage. They have done much to sully that reputation."

The COC's fine is a record levied against a foreign broadcast entity, shattering the $2.3 million fine levied against the Pacitalian Broadcast Corporation in 2006 for re-broadcasting former Prime Minister Constantino Sorantanali's "cold dead hands" speech. The fine against PBC was ultimately rescinded. The largest fine levied that held up was a $1.6 million fine against a Hamptonian station for broadcasting incendiary remarks directed at Sarzonians by the archduchy's former foreign minister Mell Ziller.

"We hope we've sent a message with this fine," a statement from the COC read. "We will not tolerate such ignorant incendiary remarks from outlets such as QSPN."

The largest cable company in Sarzonia that still carries QSPN, SarzoniaLive, reaches approximately 1.6 million households, primarily in the Woodstock area. It is the seventh largest broadcast company in the country.

Verizon Sarzonia was the first of the three largest media outlets to drop QSPN programming, quickly being joined by three of the remaining four top outlets. The fourth largest, Starcast, did not carry QSPN prior to Mr. Cyst's comments.

Sarzonia goalie Matt Peterson praised the decision to sue QSPN.

"I hope the judge sticks 'em for every fucking penny," he said. "I hope they take Cyst to the cleaners."

"Welcome back. Shofercia continues to struggle in the World Cup, managing a whopping tie against the team that is the worst in their group. Earlier, a miracle was required to win. Now, we don't even know it's possible. And we have some comments, Mike?"
"Yes, the comments. I'll read some of the least insulting ones; I am also going to ignore ones having profanity as every other word. Here they are: 'Shofercian Hockey Team is not the SSF; they are the opposites'."
"Ouch! I want the Shofercians to win just one game to prove that bastard wrong."
"Why is our finest channel broadcasting these games? If we want to see Shofercians getting embarassed, we can all get drunk and run around naked. I'd rather watch ballet instead, where if people fail, they do so with grace."
"We have ballet, Channel 37 is devoted to that?"
"You protecting Shofercia's hockey team?"
"Nah, I'm protecting our channel. Furthermore, Coach Uriev stated that he will not be interviewed after the embarassing tie. And frankly, after tying the people of Antarcti-country [Stan means country], I can understand him. We'll be back with interviews with the fans, after these messages."

"And we're back. Lara is currently in a bar where retired SSF gather. Lara, what is the situation?"
"They're watching channel 37 Mike. At this point, it might take a miracle to win, but if Shofercians keep on losing, it'll take a miracle to actually get the home crowd back in the game. These people aren't used to losing, and honestly, we're playing like the Russian soccer team."
"Thank you for the opinion Lara, now please let us hear the opinions of the SSF."

"Hey, what do you think about hockey?"
"Love it, great sport. If only our national team could get their act together. Here's the thing: as Uriev noted, the SSF trains together for two years. Our hockey team played together for two weeks. We came in unprepared, and, like snipers who forget their sniper rifles, the hockey team is getting their butts handed to them. I want them to win at least one game, just to shut up the naysayers. But do I think they'll make it to the playoffs? Nope."

Lara approached the next person:
"What's your opinion?"
"Our hockey team blows. They should stop blowing and start winning. All this blowing is giving me a headache."

"Mike, back to you."

"We also have the head of sports for SAFA, Ozerov on the line. Ozerov is a time-honored and retired sports commentator. Let's hear what he has to say."
"I watched the game Mike. We played very sloppy. The good news is that the Rocket Line actually has a +1 rating. The bad news is that aside from the Rocket and the Torpedo lines, no one else is scoring. If I was coaching, I would go to short shifts, shift every line irrespective what line the opponent plays, and change up at the first possible second, after a minute passes. Keep playing Stolichnuy, at least have some stability in the net. Maybe tone down the agressiveness a bit."
"Dr. Ozerov, are you deliberately not making a comment about the Shofercian hockey team?"
"I'm being diplomatic Mike."
"Do you think it's still possible to make it to the playoffs?"
"Well theoretically yes. However, in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is."
"A very diplomatic way of informing us that the team has little hope of making the playoffs. We now return you to the regular programming."
"Just one more comment if I may."
"Certainly."
"I think, if we are to be serious about international competition, create an atmosphere for it. We should get the best players we have, and let them play together, for a year. We should try to integrate our lines. We should raise the workload for our players. Then, we might see better results. Competition is unpredictable. No one predicted Torpedo and Rockets in the finals. No one predicted the bouncing puck that scored the goal. No matter what you do, sports cannot be predicted. If you want to - watch and enjoy. If you can't take the heat, go to a movie instead. And let's stop flaming our guys. You think they don't want to win? They do! Just as badly as we do. The difference between SSF and our hockey team, is that SSF is one of the best special forces in all of Nationstates. Our hockey team is a newbie internationally. You cannot compare the two. Just watch the game, and enjoy it. I too hope we can at least win one, just to shut up all the naysayers."

Tempers had flared in that game. Along with a catastrophic lack of focus.

Art was a bit thug-like, at times, but rarely was he ever this bad. The last time Maarkus, or anyone else remembered him being this bad was after he'd found out one of his opponents in the domestic league had slept with his sister. The unfortunate left winger had been hospitalized afterwards, after Artie had provoked a fight in the third period from a good amount of trash talk and contact.

But even then, he'd never resorted to tripping. He had some self-respect, if not necessarily any for the other team. Worst he'd done was punch someone until they were unconscious during a fight. He'd only charged goalies twice in his entire domestic career, and he rarely, if ever, did that much trash-talking. Ethnic-slurs were incredibly uncommon by any Fanboyist, especially Artie. Art was as much an example of the ethnic mixing characteristic of Allamunnae. He was half-something and half-something else.

So "Froggy bastard" were a bit unexpected. But the reaction was expected. It was more-or-less the same as the last time someone called Maarkus or Theo a 'Vike.' Worst still was when someone had called Kristin that. The person had gotten battering from the whole team.

"Any idea what' gotten into him?" Kyle Smart looked at Maarkus. The captain was taking a breather, and was watching with apprehension. The night wasn't going well, and they were down 2-0 with time running out in the second.

"Not a clue, sir. I ain' never seen him like this. He's normally physical, and he's certainly a bruiser, but he almost never runs his mouth like this. I've no idea what his deal is."

Smart sighed. "That Kelssekian is itching for a chance to beat his ass. He's in trouble, its for sure."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He was. After the fight, Artie staggered off the ice, somewhat erratic in his motion. He was reaching the penalty box to serve his minor when he collapsed on the ice. No big deal; sometimes people were a little unsteady. But long seconds went by, and he didn't even attempt to pick himself up.

"Shit!" Kyle growled. He started yelling to the refs. "Stop the game! Stop the game! He's unconscious!" He gestured to Artie. He didn't even notice that Maarkus and Honorius, who had both been taking a breather, had already gotten onto the ice. Honorius made a beeline straight to Artie, but Maarkus diverted his course.

"Oh no...Oh shit" Joe Quinn said, as he got onto the ice as well, following Maarkus.

The cause of his path-shift was noticable to all. He was headed straight towards Sven, the Kelssekian enforcer.

Maarkus' shout was audible to almost everyone in the stadium.

"What the fuck do you think you're tryin'a pull!" he bellowed. Sven turned to face him.

"What the fuck was he doing, roughing up ou--"

He was cut off as Maarkus dealt him a punch swiftly across the face. He started pulling his fist back for a second blow as Sven reeled, and then began diving towards him.

He caught Maark cleanly on the nose, and something sounded like it cracked. Then both were slammed into the boards.

"And what are you doing, Captain?" Joe snarled as he pinned Maarkus to the boards. Theo had arrived to help.

"Cool it, Cap. Cool it. We don' need more people getting off the ice on stretchers," Theo growled. Two Kelssekian players had skated over to Sven, and were offering to help him up. Over near the penalty box, paramedics had rushed out and were being helped by Fanboyist players to load Weiss onto a stretcher.

As Theo and Joe relaxed their grip, Maark pushed them off, not roughly, but firmly, for all that. "Alright. I ain' gonna beat this prick to a pulp. Even if he deserves it."

He spat at him. "Getting even's one thing. What you did is past that. Show some judgement next time." He spat again, face still contorted in rage, but clearly trying his hardest to keep control of himself. Theo and Joe still looked a bit worried. Maarkus' old, near-bloodlust that he used to have on the ice might have been buried over the last few years as he tried to control it, but it was still in a shallow grave. It might come up again any moment.

He skated off in silence. Joe shook his head at Sven, and skated away. Theo just stared for a moment, and added: "We'll get y'all next time. Flip the score, and you'll understand the shitstorm that's coming."

Theo skated off, shaking his head. "Bloody waste," he said to nobody in particular.

The game had continued, afterward. The lack of focus was gone, for the most part, but so was a lot of the team's spirit, and enthusiasm. The game ended, finally, blissfully, mercifully. The score wasn't, at 3-0, but at least it ended.

Things didn't really get any better after Artie was carried off. Maarkus went in, after confirming his nose was not broken, and started a fight with Sven, once again. And, once again, teammates of both, quite tired of this, pulled the two apart before it got anywhere.

Vaalhulm looked dead between the pipes as another shot got past him in the third period. But nobody on the team really cared at that point. They all knew the game had been lost long ago.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As they sauntered into the team room, Coach Smart had stormed in, snapping the door open.

He had been practically seething, but held his tongue. He made sure to look each player in the face. Paused for a moment.

"I'm sorry, this must be the wrong team." He turned around, and stepped out, slamming the door behind him. "I thought I was coaching a team of hockey players."

Once he left, Maarkus stood up, and began to speak.

Theo barked to him.

"Your restraint wasn't much better. Don't give us a lecture on discipline, Maark."

The captain looked directly at him. "I wouldn't dream of it. I was going to thank y'all for restraining me. I wasn't the captain y'all deserve. I'll be better."

"You'll try to be better," Dani said, adding "That's all we expect. That you'll give it your absolute best shot."

"No. I. Will. Be. Better." He walked over to his locker and started changing. The others followed suit. It was silent, sullen, depressed. Nobody talked. Nobody laughed. Nobody even smiled.

They'd been thoroughly beaten, and they knew it.

In the locker room we all faced the fury of a mad coach:

"I wasn't mad last night but tonight I am ticked," Coached started, "our guys are as good those guys and they still beat us!" "God D*** it, if you guys din't get your game together tomorrow night there will be prices to pay." Caoch screamed, with half a heart I finished out "1.2.3. Blue Jays" I then new our nickname would probably be the Bad Start Blue Jays.

That night I roamed around the hotel room in a pretty disappointed mood. From the sink where the toothpaste was, to the shower, and lastly to bed I didn't smile all night. I know I have to keep my head held high, or the depression was going to wreck my game.

In the morning I grabbed some cereal and got ready to head out the ice for the next game. We streched in a very quit way, till coach saw how slow we were and got us moving. "Okay Boys, we are playing a top 10 team today and the odds aren't neccesarly in our favor" Coach began, "Today is when we can show everybody in the world who we really are"

Plutoni ice hockey blog: WCoH 12, Matchday 2
New players break in, out

Plutoni beat Tocrowkia 5-2 behind a pair of goals from Smed Kubalee. With the Nordics team almost entirely new to the international stage, the game provided an opportunity to witness plenty of emerging talent...and some that could take a while to emerge.

That said, the first goal came from a familiar stick; Jofri Spendral. The captain received a pass from Derram Noklin and bested Leonhard Trompeter to score, 7:12 into the first period. Three minutes later, Mirsh Atzin made it 2-0 off a short pass from debutant Pensban Gamela.

Karla Stauss scored the Nordics' first goal 2:49 into the second period. The next time the first line came on for Tocrowkia, however, Audrey Haviland drew a penalty and Kubalee scored on the power play. A return to full strength didn't help the Nordics much, as they conceded a goal to Turfli Jeamin with 8:22 remaining in the period.

Alina Harttrumpf scored with Cacilia Kressel and Max Nestle providing the assists 4:19 into the third period. At 13:27, though, it was Kubalee again, shooting past teenaged Adelinda Bopp. The Tocrowkian defense finally settled in to keep the scoreline there, with Nestle impressively denying Matthew Wroder a late shot, but it was far too little, too late.

Comments:
1. hawkeye: Great job from Kubalee! Pinnacles have been second in the regular season twice in a row and Smed's the only one on the team? Let's bring back Katlon!
2. bocky_boy: I've been through this; it's the PINNACLES! Katlon barely plays any more in the league. If anything, we should be bringing through more of them. Whoever's picking this team is a sentimentalist.
3. minnie: [1] hey so have we!!!
4. hawkeye: [2] ...Tlatt Koff? Right...

"Well, today was a good day right?" asked Daylon.
"NO!" yelled Jorge.
"Why?" questioned Daylon.
"We got humiliated!" said Alexei.
"How?" Daylon asked.
"WE LOST TO QAZOX 4-1!" yelled Alexei.
"Oh yeah, that's bad." said Daylon, sitting back down on the couch.
"Well, atleast we're the first team to score a point against them so far." Jorge pointed out.
"That's true." said Alexei.
"Well, Alexei was one of the Players of the Game. He score the only point for us."
"Yup!" Alexei replied.
"Soon, I'm going to be a star in the Alaskian Hockeu League!"
"There is no such place as Alaska!" yelled Jimmy.
"Yes there is!" Alexei argued.
"You Russians are idoits!" said Jimmy.
"Вы, американцы, все жопы и недоносков!" yelled Alexei.
"What'd he say?'' asked Daylon.
"Алексей будет величайший хоккеист когда-либо!" trimuphmed Alexei.
"Zitto stupido russo!" yelled Giovanni.
"ЧТО?!" questioned Alexei.
"I can't understand a word you're saying!!" yelled out Jimmy.
"Nor can I!" said Daylon.
"¡Alto! Los dos!" commanded Jorge.
"Cierra el pico!" yelled Giovanni.
"Завершение ебать до!" screamed Alexei.
"STOP!!" yelled Coach Bilbo.
Go and get rest, we have a tough game tomorrow!

Caleb Admele's Journal Entry Day 1504.

Well i allowed a cheap goal to #5 from Teinohikira. Can't believe that guy snuck that puck by me. But we still won, thanks to Greg (Thompson), who got two 1st period goals, wrapped around a goal from Issac (Maynerd). Hannah (Askanti) ended the scoring in the 3rd period. The best news was we finally got our new uniforms from Sabre Inc. before the game. They look good, but I think they messed up the flag on them, as that wasn't the Qazoxian flag, at least it wasn't when we left. Maybe they changed it and this is the first we've heard of it.

Up next we face Toiletdonia, who lost to Delaclava earlier in the day. Don't know who scored for them, but supposedly Lios Karrmen is one of the best young Centers in the game today. Hopefully coach will through the bangers out there a bit more when he's on the ice.

*The Imperial Sporting Press, Official Television Broadcaster of the Eizen National Team*

For all of the talk most Eizen hockey fans will ramble on about with regards to overtime rules, anyone who was watching yesterday's game will gladly welcome the tie.

In a gut-check third period it was George PAthos and the hard crunching third line who would make the play. As the first line was coming back onto the ice late in the game Pathos made an incredible open ice hit that opened the door for Paavo Selanne, who moved in unassisted for his second goal of the tournament and one more closer to the Eizen national team's all time scoring record. The late goal allowed Eizen to get it's first standings point of the competition, and get itself back into contention for the next round against a tough opponent.

Despite the improved defense, Coach Oglethorpe had little praise after the game.

"I don't like ties. I don't even wear ties, I don't even like tying my shoes. If I see someone in a tye-dye t shirt I tend to throw them through the nearest window. This team is going to win and it is going to win soon, and me and the other coaches got a few ideas in mind to make it happen."

And boy did those ideas hapopen in a hurry. First of all to keep his players under control, and to limit both property damage and complaints from the Quintessian Ambassador, the Eizne national team simply purchased every remaining room in the team hotel for the entire week, moved all of its fans into those accomodations, paid for the hotel bars to stock up, and then the team was subsequently confined to the hotel for its remaining games. Coach Oglethrope promised his players that if they destroy the hotel they will end up camping out in the arena next to the Zamboni.

Whether or not the destructive force known as Eizen Hockey SUpporters will be confined along with the team is another issue, but the idea is that supporters will stay inside hoping to get autographs and glimpses of the team. Lenny Quagmire's 3 am naked pool party still took place as usual, though it was cut short by Coach Oglethorpe and a newly purchased cattle prod.

Eizen heads into its next game with far more momentum than before, and fans across the nation are hungry for a win.

GRIZZLIES HIBERNATE TOO LONG
Deep hole too much to overcome despite solid third
by Sven Magnusson

KYNYTHIN, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - The ease in which the Toyur national ice hockey dismantled the Western Cuban offering was on the minds of the Toyuri team following their 5-2 matchday 2 loss to upstarts Euroslavia at the Finntasia facilities in Kynythin.

'We certainly know what they went through,' captain Mats Hölmqvist said following a poor first two periods. 'We tried to wake up a bit in the third but I think we knew in the back of our mind we were looking to get something positive behind us before we took on Sarzonia in our next one.'

It was indeed a pitiful 40 minutes that preceded a more Toyur-like third. Down 3-0 after the first period thanks to a powerplay goal and two quick goals towards the end of the period, Magnus Hallen started the second period in goal for the Grizzlies. He fared little better, allowing a powerplay and short handed goal in the early goings of the middle frame before settling down and turning away the remainder of the 13 shots he faced in the game.

'We went with Magnus for awhile mainly to shake things up with our team,' coach Viktor Brandin told the gathering of reporters outside the luxurious home team dressing room at Finntasia. 'I don't really hold him responsible for being down 3-0 after 20 minutes. We'll go with him against Sarzonia.'

Stefan Jansson and Anders Mjallby scored for the Grizzlies in the third period, but the game ended 5-2 in favour of Euroslavia, who have added Toyur to their list of conquests, that began with Sarzonia on matchday one. The team will play a Stars team that set out to prove that their loss to Euroslavia was a fluke, defeating Tretskivucia 6-0. It will be a tall task for the Grizzlies, who will want to play well going into their final two games with Krytenia and Tretskivucia in the first half of the group stage. The game with Sarzonia can be seen on TSTV1.

Tutlingburg Still Winless at World Cup

Settle for 4-4 Draw Against Mohawk Clans

Dareb
-After a terrible debut Monday, the Tutlingburg national team played a solid second game yesterday, settling a for a 4-4 tie against Mohawk Clans.

In what seemed to be a repeat of the first game, Tutlingburg fell into an early hole. Trailing 2-0 five minutes in, Tutlingburg defenseman Eric Nilsson, fired a thundering blast from the blue-line, which got by a screened Mohawk Clans netminder. Tutlingburg then ran into penalty trouble, taking four consecutively. Fortunately, the PK was perfect, making several key shot blocks.

The second period was highlighted by several odd-man rushes, as each team tried to fine a rhythm. Leblanc and Miller made some beautiful saves as it seemed each wanted to upstage the other. The period was also another penalty filled one for Tutlingburg , something that made the Tutlingburg fans in the stands, quite unhappy. They sounded their displeasure by booing the referees constantly throughout the period. In any case, Tutlingburg escaped the period still trailing by one.

Mohawk Clans started the third with a bang, as they scored two goals in one minute to go up 4-1. Coach Porter immediately pulled Leblanc and called a timeout. After chewing out his team for thirty seconds, he sent out backup netminder Lawrence Decker and play resumed. The effects of this "pep-talk" were immediately seen as the Tutlingburgians began throwing out checks and playing much tighter defensively and offensively.Mohawk Clans was forced to play defensively and Tutlingburg took advantage as Marco Wood, scored the second Tutlingburg goal at 12:55, followed by Charles Worthington scoring the third at 13:45. Eric Nilsson then completed the comeback scoring the fourth, his second of the night, at 16:32.

After the game, Coach Porter didn't mince words.

"I told these guys to play their best in the second game. If this is their best, then we might as well pack up and go home. We need to be better on offense, defense, and in goal."

Tutlingburg's next game is against Teinohikira, who lost to Qazox 4-1.

The Game's 3 Stars

First: Eric Nilsson-Tutlingburg
Second: William D. Earnest-Mohawk Clans
Thrid: Richard Miller-Mohawk Clans

The Nordics hockey team which was completely rebuilt after the 11th World Cup of Hockey notched a win Sibirsky in a tightly contested game, but faltered against Plutoni. Head coach Danielle Knorr, the new leader of the team after Justin Michahelles resigned last year had this to say on the matter. "This is a team that is still trying to get it's sea legs, as it were. We only maintained two members of the team before hand. It's a team full of young, emerging players and we're still trying to find our selves. The loss against Plutoni was hard to swallow and I've talked to Bopp about her performance. She knows it's unacceptable to give up the goals she did. The loss was ugly, but I think it will go a long way to helping us in the future."

Alexei Borodin enter the stadium with an equipment bag over his shoulder. He was texting on his phone while walking toward the Teinohikirian locker room. There he met up with Daylon, Jorge, Jimmy, Connor, Giovanni, and Coach Bilbo. There, they were getting prepared to match-off against Tutlingburg, who had tied with Mohawk Clans 4-4 the previous matchday. Tutlingburg was a tough team, so he knew he would have to play his best today. "What up?" he asked the team entering the locker room. "Hey man!" said Jorge. "Your the last one here...again." "It's hurtful...yet appropriate!" replied Alexei. "Yeah..Well, better hurry up so we can practice for the match." Said Coach Bilbo. "Is Tutlingburg here yet?" asked Alexei.
"They just got here." said Connor pointing over at the corridor. "Let's hope we can win today!" cheered Alexei. "Why did we have to be here at 6 am?" asked Daylon. "So we can practice before the game" said Coach Bilbo. "Now hurry up and get dressed, the game starts in 2 hours."
The team got dressed and skated out onto the rink where they were going to practice.

"Ok, Jimmy! You do what you always do!" said Coach Bilbo and Jimmy replied by giving a thumbs-up.
"Daylon, Connor, and Jorge! You guys be defensive players and run the defensive routes we saw Tutlingburg run in the film study!" commanded Coach Bilbo.
"Got it!" yelled Jorge, Connor, and Daylon.
"The rest of you, run our offensive routes we were going to run in this game!" said Coach Bilbo.
The team ran the plays like they were supposed to.

"Good job guys!" cheered Coach Bilbo. "Alexei! You're going to be the captain." "You try to get the puck when it's dropped!" "Like what Jorge does?" questioned Alexei. "Yeah, you could put it that way." said Coach Bilbo.

"Alright guys, I want you to play tough! said Coach Bilbo. "I know our last 2 games haven't been great, but I believe you can win the one!"
"If you believe enough, and believe in yourself and the team, we can win."
"Tutlingburg may be tough, but they're not tougher than us." "Only Qazox is..." confessed Coach Bilbo.
"But the point is, If you can Believe enough, we can win!"
Yeah and Alexei." said Jimmy. "Don't screw this up!"
"Man, I won't!" screamed Alexei.

The Teinohikira Chronicle

Borodin leads Teinohikira to first win

After a rough loss to Qazox yesterday, The Teinohikirian Hockey Team got their 1st win today and it's all thanks to one special player. Teinohikira defeated Tutlingburg 4-3 after an exciting finish. Teinohikira was very excited to win it's 1st game and be ranked #3 in their group, behind Qazox and Delaclava. The play-by-play went as follows:

1ST PERIOD:
Tutlingburg-James Rowley-Attacker 15:39
Teinohikira-Alexei Borodin-LWF 8:43
END OF 1ST Teinohikira:1 Tutlingburg: 1

2ND PERIOD:
Teinohikira-Giovanni Stripes-RWF 16:54
Tutlingburg-Martin Kunze-Attacker 6:21
Tutlingburg-Martin Kunze-Attacker 1:36
END OF 2ND Teinohikira: 2 Tutlingburg: 3

3RD PERIOD:
Teinohikira-Alexei Borodin-LWF 19:44
Teinohikira-Alexei Borodin-LWF 0:00 BUZZER BEATER
END OF 3RD Teinohikira: 4 Tutlingburg: 3

Yes, the game-winning shot was made by none other than Alexei Borodin, who scored a record of 3 goals in the game. Borodin was interviewed after the game. He said "It was heart-racing and challenging, but we pulled through." "I personally owe our victory to Coach Bilbo, he told us before the game that 'If we believe in ourselves and our team, we could win' the whole team thought about that throughout the game and won." The last shot was made by Borodin sneaking a puck past the Tutlingburg Goaltender Sonny Leblanc. The whole team celebrated on the ice for more than 5 minutes! then, went back to the locker rooms because the security guards told them to "break it up". Coach Bilbo was also interviewed after the game. He said "I owe it all to my player for believing in what I said. I told them that if they believed, they could win. Alexei is one great hockey player by the way!" Teinohikira's next game is against Mohawk Clans who got dominated by Delaclava 5-1. Coach Bilbo says "I don't worry about tomorrows game, I worry about our game with Delaclava." "I have $10 that says we lose to Delaclava and get shut-out."

Excerpts from last night's Hockey Night in Tarrentum Broadcast

Play-by-Play Announcer: Kellese Dressalla; Color Announcer: Ebereth Sundern

"Good afternoon Tarrentum, I'm Kellese Dressalla and, as always, with me is my colorful co-host, Eberth Sundern. Sundern, how are ya?"

"I'm doing great tonight, looking forward to a good game against The Fanboyists, ranked number 12 in the world."

"That's right, there is no rest for the weary in the Bracket Group as the Falcons are placed with the #5 Kelssek team, #12 Fanboyists, #15 Septentrionia, #24 Virabian National Team and the fellow unranked Canamla team."

"You said it right this time, on the first try even!"

"Well, I do what I can to please the audience. The Falcons are coming off a win against the Canamla team in a convincing 3 - 0 fashion. Let's hope that the Falcons can continue their strong play against the Iron Tide of The Fanboyists tonight. Coming up next after the commercial break, a talk with defensemen Paulo Gianetti, Captain of the Tarrentum Falcons..."

"...Five minutes left in the first period. The Falcons are just being hammered physically Sunnie."

"Too right you are Kellese."

"The puck is dropped for the faceoff on the right side of the ice. Scooped out by Braanur-"

"Theodore Braanur."

"That's right, thanks Ebbie. Braanur - Walter - takes the puck into the Falcons zone. A pass back to Quinn who's, just over the redline so no offside call. Quinn to Theodore Braanur. Shot. GLOVE SAVE AND A BEAUTY from Treppi Sama."

"Now that's what I call artisanialy made wine right there!"

"...2:35 into the second period, Tarrentum working on the powerplay. 50 seconds left with the extra man. The movement up by Salamicchi, passes to Brossimi. Brossimi...NIFTY MOVE THERE TO GET AROUND Muhlberg! Brossimi, alone on the left side, passes to Vedden in front....GOOOOAAALLLL!!!"

"Tremendously tremendous shot from Vedden to get that through traffic! An even better pass to Brossimi to put it right on his stick!"

"The Falcons lead this one 1 - 0 with that Powerplay goal by Vedden!"

"...13 minutes left in the third, The Fanboyists still bruising the Falcons but have yet to score. The faceoff will be to the right of Sama in the Falcons zone after that Icing call. Puck is dropped. Flung out by Saru, intercepted by Skmyt, out to Andicek on the point. Slapshot. Goal for the Iron Tide."

"A rising slapshot and there was just too many men in front of Sama for him to see that puck clearly."

"The Fanboyists tie up the game 1 - 1 on Danielle Andicek's goal."

...
...

"...Still tied up here late in the third. This one looks to be going to overtime. After a timeout by Falcons Head Coach Giuseppe Calarone, the faceoff will be in the neutral zone. Second line out for Tarrentum, first line out of the Iron Tide. The ref drops the puck, a scrum for it...shoots out towards Vallena, who mishandles it! Marie DuPont corrals the puck. Up to Skmyt, who brings it across, deep into the zone. One minute remaining in the third period. Skymt behind the net, working...working...moves out, flips it back to DuPont at the corner. DuPont over to O'Connor, O'Connor to Andicek on the point, Stahlburg in front, shot from Andicek and...it's deflected in by Stahlburg."

"Poor defensive awareness by the Falcons to let Stahlburg set up camp in front of Sama like that."

"With 40 seconds left on clock this looks like it will be the nail in the coffin for the Falcons."

"There's the final buzzer and the Falcons fall late to the Iron Tide, 2 - 1."

"Interesting tidbit here Kellese, The Fanboyists actually predicted a 2-1 win over our team early in the WCoH."

"Interesting indeed, but not much help for Tarrentian glory right now. The next game will be against Septentrionia - no rest for the weary. Until then, I'm Kellese Dressalla..."

"And I'm Ebereth Sundern..."

"Keep you stick on the ice Tarrentum."

THE ROCKET REPORT

ANOTHER WIN DESPITE DYSFUNCTION

High Jessieville, Quintessence of Dust-
While the fans were happily chanting “You Can’t Beat Us!” towards the Taeshani team as the Rockets put the finishing touches on their 4-3 win, the team itself is clearly not a cohesive unit. The latest incident involved the arrest of 21-year old Jean-Paul Parentaux for driving under the influence at 3:30 in the morning. Adding fuel to the fire was that there were three scantily dressed women in the car with him. Parentaux was held in High Jessieville jail overnight (OOC: Drop me a line about what your law would be in this situation, QoD). Parentaux served as a backup on the last national team and was starting for the first time. Coach Robert Hennessy said that the left wing will be sent back to Newmanistan if he is let go by Quodite authorities. “This is just really inexcusable,” said Hennessy, “I cannot believe the behavior of some players, and unfortunately the couple of them make the entire team look bad. As a unit, we have some hard working players, but evidently, the message isn’t getting across to the rest of them that they are representing the Empire and need to be doing it with dignity.” Defensemen Steve Caldwell told reporters that he and Parentaux had gone up to the hotel bar for drinks shortly before 11pm, and that there were other players there as well. Once there though, he claims that he separated from Parentaux around midnight and returned to his hotel room. He did not understand why Parentaux would have been away from the hotel to need to drive in the first place. Trevor Anderson, of course, took advantage of the opportunity and boasted that, “At least I can score with a baseball player (Jessica Brasfield). He hooked up with a bunch of Quodite stanks.” With that remark, Anderson is sure to be the subject of us much ridicule and criticism by media in Quintessence of Dust as he will be in Newmanistan. Speaking of Brasfield, we are not sure if they are a pair, or if it was just a hookup.

Coach Hennessy did have Anderson in the lineup, and to his credit Trevor did look good in this game, picking up the first goal of the contest just 1:47 in, by firing a slapshot through the five hole to make 1-0 in favor of Newmanistan. Following the score, Newmanistan picked up a couple of penalties, but they did not have any bad effects as the defense killed them off. However, it was 59 seconds after the second Taeshani power play that the team was able to get the game-tying goal. Late in the first period, Taeshan pulled ahead by one. Things would get worse before they got better, with Ryan Spencer called for a five minute major (boarding) and a game misconduct early in the second period. Even worse, during the major, Newmanistan was assessed an additional tripping minor to defensemen Patrice Lemieux. Almost unbelievably, Newmanistan killed all of this off, and goalie Michael Reid gets a lot of the credit, even though he would not take much of it. “Taeshan got some shots there on the 5-minute power play including the entire 2-minute 5-on-3, but I saw them well. The defense did a great job keeping the slot clean in front of me, and I had the angle on every shot that they took. So ya know, I mean, it was great to kill it off, but it’s the guys in front of me that got us through it. I just did my job.” That’s ok, Michael, you’re goaltending got the team through it as well. As is often the case when a team kills a long power play against them, the momentum begins to work in their favor. That could not have been any more true in this case as less then a minute after killing it off, Newmanistan would score two goals in a span of 41 seconds. The first came from Brett Stuart, with an assist to Anderson and Patrice Lemieux, and the second scored Slava Kolosov on a slapper from the point that appeared to be deflected in front by Jacques Carpentier. The PA-announcer originally announced it as Carpentier’s goal, but later changed to an unassisted score for Kolosov as they realized Carpentier never touched the puck. Early in the third, and on the power play, the Rockets were able to extend the lead to two as Trevor Anderson (named the game’s first star), completed his two-goal, three-point night. The chants taunting Taeshan began and echoed throughout the building for several minutes, until they cut the lead to one. That quieted them down for a while, but they picked up again in the final 30 seconds of the game. The Rockets held them off despite being outshot for the game slightly, 35-32. Much of that was because of the power-play differential. Taeshan was 0-for-7 while Newmanistan 1-for-2. When some reporters looked at that and questioned whether or not the referee was one-sided towards Taeshan, Hennessy shot that down immediately. “No! The power play differential accurately shows which team played smart. That would be them. And which team was undisciplined. That would be us. I’m glad we’re getting results, but we have a lot of work to do if we really want to equal or surpass what we did the last time we were here.”

LATE GOAL SALVAGES TIE
Hjerstedt gives Grizzlies vital point
by Sven Magnusson

KYNYTHIN, QUINTESSENCE OF DUST (TP) - It has been a somewhat disappointing World Cup of Hockey for both of the top ranked teams in the Motor Group ahead of their meeting on matchday 3 at the exquisite Finntasia arena in Kynythin. Both teams have had an easy victory over an unranked opponent, and a disappointing loss to Euroslavia, and were going into this game hoping and praying that they would get one over on their rivals.

It seems typical, then, that the match ended in a 4-4 draw.

'We certainly aren't disappointed with the result,' said hero Jakob Hjerstedt, who scored to tie the game with 22 seconds left after Patrik Dahlin was on the bench for the extra attacker. 'Especially with the way it happened. We had come back a couple of times in the game, so I think that we'll be more pleased with the result then they will. Still, a win would have been nice, and we need to forget about this game and move on to Krytenia.'

The Grizzlies were behind twice in the game, after taking an early lead. Niels Linderoth took a Niklas Aspelin breakaway pass in alone and deked out Matt Peterson in the Stars' goal. Sylvan Turcotte blasted a hard slap shot from the top of the left circle past Patrik Dahlin at the 15:39 mark of the first, sending the teams in for their intermission snack and massage tied at 1-1.

Sarzonia took over the first half of the second period, and were up 3-1 by the midway point. Mark Ridley scored a powerplay goal, while Steven Miller was on the doorstep to tip in an Erik Weinert shot past Dahlin. Toyur drew within one on their own powerplay, with Stefan Jansson taking the Jakob Hjerstedt cross-crease pass with textbook skill and precision, putting the puck past Peterson with one fluid motion.

Toyur tied the game early in the third, when Tobias Nyqvist's rising slap shot eluded Peterson at 6:14 of the third. Miller's 2nd goal of the game for Sarzonia gave them the 4-3 lead with only 6 minutes remaining, seemingly putting the Stars up for good. However, with Patrik Dahlin on the bench, the Grizzlies pressed the Stars in the final 90 seconds, with Jakob Hjerstedt finally scoring on a play where Matt Peterson turned away three shots in rapid succession, but was unable to control his rebounds, allowing Hjerstedt to slip the fourth shot between his pads.

Toyur now find themselves in need of wins against both Krytenia and Trestkivucia to keep pace in the Motor Group before the first half of the group stage finishes. The two teams sit at the bottom of the group, with the only win between the two of them being Krytenia's matchday 1 win over Tretskivucia. The Grizzlies would do well to avoid glances at the table, though, as even early on in the competition has shown. The game with Krytenia can be seen on TSTV1.
