U-18 National Team and Saint Louis Player Jehan Ghil Dies After Collapsing On Pitch
Shocking Death Devastates Team

The Oberour Ar Moro U-18 National Team lost in the finals of the RTC Under-18 World Cup, falling 4-1 to Tumbra. The loss on the pitch has been overshadowed by a loss off the pitch, which dislimns what had been a successful tournament.

Jehan Ghil, an 18-year-old right midfielder for Oberour Ar Moro, collapsed and fell unconscious on the pitch shortly before the tournament final kicked off. He received emergency medical treatment on the pitch before being transferred to a local hospital. It was there that Ghil was declared dead after suffering a cardiac arrest. The cause of the attack is as of yet unknown.

Ghil's teammates were distressed but decided to push on with the match. It was clear from their performance that the health of Ghil cast a pall on their performance. These young Dragoons had already been considered underdogs against a Tumbra side that had gone undefeated throughout the tournament.

It was not until the match was over and the Oberours were in their locker room that they were informed of the passing of Ghil. Loïk Fiquet, a left winger who is said to be a close friend of Ghil, spoke to the press after the team had been informed.

"We can't believe it," an emotional Fiquet stated. "I can't believe it. No one had any idea he was ill, or in poor health, or that anything was wrong. It just came out of nowhere. And now he's gone."

Unnoticed by most observers in Jabal Akhdar City among the FAC contingent that arrived for the semi-finals and final was a man who certainly would've not been mistaken for anything but a courtesy invite.
Steven Fleming stepped aside as manager of Middlebourne City AFC after last season, his 18 years in charge the longest tenure in the club's history and having produced the FAC Cup and promotion to the Championship, will certainly be regaled as a MidBo legend for years to come.

His presence in Jabal Akhdar was no accident or a tourist junket, as he was introduced at the FAC's State Street offices as the new Executive Director, replacing the retiring David Carlson.

“I'm humbled to have been chosen by the board to follow Dave as Executive Director. He and I have known one another for nearly our entire lives in the sport so I understand and share his vision for the FAC. He's built something special, and one of the things he's put a great deal of emphasis upon is hiring the right people to execute to the practical realities of our mission. The last week has reinforced the already established fact that he has the eye for the right person to hire and to give them the tools to succeed.”

Following Fleming's introductory statement, FAC General Secretary Allison LeFleur stepped in to announce the changes in the organization that will occur effective when Fleming officially begins the job in 30 days.

Liam Sullivan will become Fleming's number two as Sporting Director, taking over for Trevor Richmond; Chris LaRue will become the Director of Player Development and Under-21 boss, with his previous roles--along with those of Don Alvarrez, the longtime coach and administrator—split between Matt Villareal and Kristen Sawyer, who moves up from the pool of NT coaches. The two will share the duties of Assistant Manager to LaRue and Danielle Harper (which the former Baker Park NT Captain is already undertaking) with Sawyer moving into LaRue's spot as Associate Director of Scouting working with Tony Weiss and Villareal also taking over as Associate Director of Technical Development.

“We have spent literally hundreds of man-hours working through the changes among the staff, separate from the process of hiring an Executive Director”, Cheryl Livingston, FAC Board Chair stated ahead of Fleming's time to answer questions form the media. “Every single person at Birkenfeld was evaluated, asked for input and about their interest in positions. We are planning to have something for all the staff & the player pool to give everyone a reward for playing a part in what we've achieved.”

The U-18 side is to help build up key senior side prospects for the next world cup and beyond. Sreten Wladić took a the job as head coach after helping guide DD Porto Nowi’s youth system for a few years. The veteran player’s roster selection and tactical decisions were corroborated by the support of senior team assistant coach Mitar Rajačić and Federal Football Association Head of Youth Development Lange Weismann.

Personal has had an impact on the Rekan system. Wukmirić and Nikolawić are two different wingbacks, with Wukmirić more offensive. Nikolawić tends to lie back and link with the center halves, but can make runs. A single ball playing center backs works with a tall youngster Zoran Jewtowić and Iwan Paunowić, while goal man Andrzej Kalinowski sweeps remaining balls. Fullbacks and Aca Blizanac are distribution options in the Rekan system.

The center of the pitch has three midfielders. Leonel Brändle sits back when playing as a ball winner and methodical passer. The more progressive midfielders have their own roles. Miletić is an attacking force with some supporting abilities at times. Markowić is the main story however, a box-to-box player who can harass, pass, and even shoot when needed. A player for Vanguardi’s U-18 affiliates, Markowić is expected to be a hot signing next year and is the de facto NT captain.

The two forwards are different in their style of play. Wolfhard Hoffmann is a natural assistant, with a high assist count in the youth leagues. Lex Klein is a pure attacker, with the ability to come into the box at the right moment to score. Klein is possibly the story of the U-18 WC in Zeta Reka, as Klein could be the successor to national team captain Bogdan Rawić. Anton Feigen is another mature attacking choice with senior experience.

Tjorl's love for bread and dairy can be commonly found in cuisine, and breakfast is no exception. The well-known Tjorlish breakfast typically consists of laminna, eggs and cheese on toast, and milk. Some people also include salmon or velsmakende. Laminna is a Tjorlish porridge, made with milk, oats, sugar, and butter. Velsmakende is a Tjorlish bread roll infused with berries, most commonly strawberries. Coffee is also treasured in Tjorl, and as such is usually drank in the morning. While it isn't uncommon to see chocolate in the Tjorlish breakfast, many parents are weary of eating too much of this delicious food. Another concern with the Tjorlish breakfast is the lack of vegetables. Another day, another Tjorlish debut in a major international tournament. The Tjorlish Football Association confirms their participation in the 16th RTC U-18 World Cup. All the best young starlets from all over the nation are now in the same team to try and do a Cinderella run of their own, just like what the senior team did in IAC 15. As always, the journey won't be easy, as they have been grouped with hosts Græntfjall, 15th U18 World Cup 3rd placers Adab, and StrayaRoos.

"I know Dalen Ardal were s*it under you last season, but they didn't exactly have the best lineup in the Zentraliga that season. I have faith that you'll redeem yourself, Solstad. Vestby and Köhler have experience too, so you can rely on them", said Maciej Kruse, President of the Tjorlish Football Association.

"Thanks for your trust in me, but I really don't see us getting out of our group. It's not going to be easy facing the hosts and the reigning third-placers", said Fredrik Solstad, the newly-hired coach of the Tjorlish national U-18 football team.

"Look, I know that it is a tough group, and I also don't have the highest expectations for this squad, but I still expect you guys to play the best you can. This team has tons of potential, and I believe that you can manage all the egos and talents of the squad to achieve something good on our debut. About the Team

The last Under-18 World Cup that Team Hopal attended was the 11th version of the tournament, hosted by Baker Park. A lot has changed since then, most of the members of that team, which made to the playoff round, better than any other Hopalian team at an international team, have graduated from the team, turning 19. Some of them have joining the Hopalian National Team, and some were part of the team that went to the 15th Independent's Cup. Only three players who were of that team are on this one, Uma Frey, the captain and star of the team, and the two assistant captains of the team goalkeeper Helen Oberhabel and midfielder Justin Thomas. The team has been left dormant since the end of the 11th Under-18 World Cup, with Head Coach David Stoyers taking over the Hopalian National Program. There hadn't been an assembly of the U-18 Team from that tournament until recently. When David Stoyers stepped down as head of the Hopalian National Program, he rebuilt the U-18 team from the ground up, touring high school soccer programs across the country and picking up players and coaches, building this team. There's a pretty impressive group of young players in there, considering how recently this team was built. Josh Davys, the 15 year old centre forward is a pretty impressive shooter for his age. The Centre Back trio of Ken Harris, Greg Morehavel, and Patrick Dacy are forming into solid all-around defenders. Finally Garrett Moritz is developing into a good all-around midfielder. Then of course there's Uma Frey, who is the star of the team, putting up an impressive performance at the 11th edition of this tournament, leading the U-18 team in goals, despite being only 14 at the time, he made his international debut on the Hopalian National Team at the 15th Independent's Cup, and he will be leading this team into the tournament.

Part II, What We Call Ourselves.

"I'm glad to be able to have gathered everyone here, and you may know why you are gathered here in the first place."

Says Eugen Geschke, as he sees the Under 18 National Team for Tyskerlund lining up in front of him. It was crazy to think he somehow convinced the Kaiserin to form the team for the Under 18 World Cup in the first place while escaping without being sent behind bars. He still wonders what could have gone differently at that exact moment... But he had a team to assess at first. This was his first time being an actual manager, as he had also attempted at becoming manager for VdF Handersea, but he lost that race to someone else, he couldn't think of that now, however.

"Don't worry mate. You'll do just fine, i am absolutely sure of that, and i'm saying that as a friend."

Says assistant manager Till Heuberger, a long time childhood friend of Geschke. Both had found an interest for football the moment the Tyskerlund Erste Liga was announced, and now both somehow found their way to managing a team for Tyskerlund in international football. Geschke just looked at his friend and nodded, if Heuberger says that he will do just fine as a manager, then Geschke trusts his words more than anyone else. Afterall, the two know eachother from the inside, to the outside and back. The two were together for anything that faced their way.

"Thanks mate." Geschke says to his partner, as he looks towards the team.

"Right! As you now will know, all eighteen of you have been gathered to represent Tyskerlund in the Under 18 World Cup! It was difficult to handpick a team with not much time, but i, your manager Eugen and fellow assistant Till, are certain we picked the best possible for the job. Kuno Feit, please step up."

As Geschke said the name, a player stepped up to the front. Kuno Feit, the chosen starting goalkeeper for Tyskerlund. He surprisingly isn't the tallest person around, but his handling with the ball along with his somewhat quick feet allow him to help control the tempo, even at the expense of his ability to cover the net. That was what Geschke thought, at least. Feit can be described as temper cold, intelligent, and a disciplined type of character. Someone who would suit well to be a leader, in a way.

"Kuno Feit, i am appointing you as captain of this team. Do you have any objections?" Geschke asks.

"No, sire. I have no objection to that." Kuno replied, as cold as he ever will be.

"Good. Return to your position. Does anyone have one question?"

Geschke asks as Feit returns to his original position. One player raised his hand, Marcus Schaumann. Schaumann is a large yet quick and agile defender, who prefers to use simple light touches onto the ball for defense rather than strong, agressive tackles. This makes him a player who prefers grace and elegance when it comes to playing the game. Schaumann is best described as polite, formal, respectful, and traditional. Seeing that he was raising his hand, presumably to ask the one question, Geschke answered to that.

"Yes, Schaumann. Have a question?" The fourty one year old asked.

"Yes, sire. One question that i have... What do we call ourselves?"

Geschke took a minute to process that question. They were called The Under 18 National Team for Tyskerlund, meaning he presumed on what sort of a "name" the team would be given. This would also have to apply for the future senior team in the future looming Baptism of Fire and World Cup. Geschke didn't really had a name at the moment, but he had to answer the question Schaumann had given him. Geschke had to give a good name, this was a deciding moment for him, afterall. Even if it wasn't the most important question.

Annette Berglund is today heralded as one of the harbingers of the next generation of Cordian footballers, and a future star for the national team and whichever club she elects to play for. But things weren’t always this way for the 17-year-old, who’s leaving the country for the first time for Graintfjall to play in the Under-18 World Cup. She’s had to battle for every inch she’s received, and the path was never clear for her.

Growing up in North Falls, a small town several hours east of Creston, Berglund has been playing football all her life, kicking around a football in the backyard, even when she was too young to play competitively. “It may have looked like some sort of regimented training, and I’m sure some people saw her and thought it was, but she was just having fun out there,” said Annette’s mother, Sharon. “She’d come home from school, find the football, and just mess around out back until she needed to come in and do homework.” By the time she was old enough to join the local select team, she was far better than anything North Falls had to offer, leading the team in goals as a midfielder. But even her skill wasn’t enough to singlehandedly compete with the player pool in Creston, and whenever her North Falls team made the drive they would get shellacked by teams that just were better in every way.

However, a Creston coach saw Annette’s on-field performance and invited her to try out for his team, one of the region’s best. Berglund went, not really knowing what to expect, and was surprised and delighted to make the team. Her parents, committed to doing their best for her, allowed her to play for the team, despite the long drives to make practices and games. Despite the effort the family put into the team, Berglund found herself on the bench as the season began… and for much of the rest of it, too. “That was a tough year,” said Sharon. “A lot of tears were shed.” Annette even reached the edge of quitting the sport. So, the next season, she returned to North Falls, starring for the local team again, and losing often to the very best teams. But this time, she was having fun with her friends. It was this season that rekindled her love for the game that was so close to fizzling out the season before.

Things only got better for Annette. As she turned fourteen, a brand-new junior team, Northeast Selects, began drawing players from all over the northeastern (duh) side of the West Island. Annette saw an opportunity to play true top-level football, and managed to make the team. It soon became clear that this was not going to be a team to be steamrolled. North Falls had a terrible team because they only drew from one town. Northeast drew from twenty-plus different communities over a large area, making for a patchwork of backgrounds that only made the team stronger. As for Annette? She had come into her own as the team’s best player. That season, the Northeast 14 & Under team delivered a regional title in a tournament that saw Annette secure revenge on her former Creston team, as well as many of those that had beaten up on her North Falls side. But they didn’t stop there. They went on to win the West Island title, then the national championship with a victory over the East representative, the Brenville U14s.

The rest of Annette’s junior career, she says, is a blur. Northeast would win the regional title again the following year, before Annette received an offer to join the Lakeside U19s. “It was hard,” she said of moving away from her friends and family. “But I knew it was the best way to advance my career.” She certainly has. Lakeside, with Annette commanding the midfield, has now won two National Youth League titles in a row, while also doing exceptionally well in international competition, advancing to the Rising Stars Cup playoffs once, and the Round of 16 once.

For many young people in Græntfjall, the school day begins with a breakfast club, policies inspired by Kaija Michaelsdóttir's visit to social democratic countries in Esportiva. Lower income students get a chance of a nutritional breakfast, while for others, it's just a chance to catch up on homework! However, there is no prayer, oath of allegiance or any such ceremony starting the school day: usually, it's just straight into class. The current government has increased its emphasis on "core" subjects (math, Græntfjaller, Commonspeak [OOC: English], and sciences), and these tend to take up the bulk of the school day, but there are 8 allotted hours a week for "specialist" subjects such as art, music, and extra languages. U-18 National Team and Saint Louis Player Jehan Ghil Dies After Collapsing On Pitch
Shocking Death Devastates Team

The Oberour Ar Moro U-18 National Team lost in the finals of the RTC Under-18 World Cup, falling 2-0 in extra time to Chromatika. The loss on the pitch has been overshadowed by a loss off the pitch, which dislimns what had been a successful tournament.

Jehan Ghil, an 18-year-old right midfielder for Oberour Ar Moro, collapsed and fell unconscious on the pitch shortly before the tournament final kicked off. He received emergency medical treatment on the pitch before being transferred to a local hospital. It was there that Ghil was declared dead after suffering a cardiac arrest. The cause of the attack is as of yet unknown.

Ghil's teammates were distressed but decided to push on with the match. The young Dragoons fought valiantly for their friend, but after 90 scoreless minutes could not sustain their energy and allowed the two winning goals through. While last second substitute Tomaz d'Amboise played admirably in Ghil's place, it wasn't just the emotional loss that impacted the team. Ghil's solid defensive play, as demonstrated in Oberour Ar Moro's tournament opening win against Qasden, was clearly missing on the pitch.

Assistant Manager Sulien de Guinguan was informed of Ghil's passing before the start of extra time, but the team as a whole was not informed until they returned to their dressing room after the match was over. Loïk Fiquet, a left winger who is said to be a close friend of Ghil, spoke to the press after the team had been informed.

"We can't believe it," an emotional Fiquet stated. "I can't believe it. No one had any idea he was ill, or in poor health, or that anything was wrong. It just came out of nowhere. And now he's gone."

I've written this before, haven't I? I can't shake the feeling that I've written this story before. What in the world could cause that?

Football - RTC UNDER-18 WORLD CUP 16

In the last two IACs Indusse had reached the semi-finals, beaten Kriegiersien in the IAC 14 with 6-2 in the match for third place.

Now this time Kriegiersien was able to win 2-0 in the first match in the group stage of the Youth World Cup.

Xian Cheung, who had played as only player at the IAC, was happy to score now against a team he had missed to play against before.

The biggest talent Kriegiersien has in the moment, called the "New Dashi" after the previous record scorer of the Olympic team, Viktor ‘Dashi’ Vorontsov-Dashkov, was pretty content after his two goals.
He left school after his 16th Birthday, focusing entirely on Football.
“After two hours maths, physics and programming the only joy was Sport in my school day. I am really happy that I have this bullshit behind me. I scored double the many goals as our opponent from Indussia. I am becoming the best footballer in the world, I don’t need no education”, Cheung said, meanwhile failing to write his name and date correct on an autograph card.

The typical school day in Baker Park is in some ways not much different that it was 130 years ago at the founding of the Commonwealth. At the First through Fifth Grade level, the day begins with a gathering of all the students in the "morning room", where students sit on benches--separated by gender, naturally--and hear the announcements from the Vice Principal which follows the opening song; at most schools there is a rotation daily between "Hear Our Voices Commonwealth" (generally just the first two verses) or whatever the school song is. In generations past, the Doxology was mixed in at least one day per week as well when primary school included up to eighth grade; there was a Head Boy and Head Girl who were theoretically "in charge" of the morning ritual. Once this short period in complete, students report their classroom.

Today, at grade 6 and above there is no longer 'morning assembly' which is impractical as Middle Schools and High Schools have much larger enrollments. The school day begins anywhere from between 7:40 am and 8:30 depending on the grade (9-12 earlier, 6-8 later in the window) with three 48 minute periods with 5 minutes between each, two 42 minute periods, which is used for lunch & electives in music or art (also certain clubs meet during this time) and three more 48 minute periods. The general curriculum standards require a minimum of four units of English composition, grammar and literature; 3 units of science; four units of math; 3.5 units social science; 2.5 units of personal health/personal skills/physical education; 2 units of foreign language; and 1 unit of arts/music.

(Waltenburg, Græntfjall) When Baker Park and Cassadaigua meet in the second Group E match here at the Under-18 World Cup, there will be familiar pleasantries in store for the coaching staffs.

Hannah Shanley, the Cassadaigua U18 boss, is not just a contemporary of Matt Villareal, the former BPNT captain, but the two worked together for a couple of cycles during Villareal's stint with the Fillies National Team setup; in addition, BP Manager Danielle Harper had a four week coaching exchange stint in Rushmore after the World Cup 84 cycle.
The players will have no such connections, as this will mark only the second time the nations have met in this competition, and only the third time ever in age group play; BP won the only previous U18 contest 5-1 in Taeshan in the first group match of SWC 10, and also defeated the Pink shirted Dagans in the match that is said to have turned the tide for mixed gender soccer in the Commonwealth at the White Fortress in Gladerial during DBC 42.

Cassadaigua will look to stay alive ahead of the third matchday, having lost 3-1 against HUElavia while Baker Park was getting the better of Tikriot at the Saint Hafnar Ground here in Waltenburg in the northeastern part of the country.

Great opening of the competition. Our young players beat Sannyamathland 3-1. Our team was visibly better on the pitch throughout the match. Hongbo Deng and Adalina Natković ruled in the middle of the field and sent precise balls to the wings where fast Viktor and Imelda were ready.
The pressure forward bore fruit as early in the thirteenth minute. Adalina Natković won the ball in a duel, passed the ball to the left wing with a great diagonal towards Imelda Katić. Katić with a great ball transfers the game to the second wing to Viktor Zatković, Zatković in the first touch passes with a quick pass to the lonely Hongbo Deng who is ready waiting for the ball on the edge of the penalty area, stretched opponent's defense doesn't manage to cover Hongbo Deng on time and Deng scored for 1-0 with a great shot! !! Gooooooal!
By the end of the first half, our players had a number of chances but failed to hit the opponent's net. Halftime ended with 1-0.

In the second half, a little pressure from Sannyamathland players on our goal. The player with the number 9 shots great, but Davor Jelušić from NK Čelik defended well that ball!
In the 52nd minute, a new goal for us was scored. For 7 minutes of the game, our players are tightening the noose around the opponent's goal. They are trying to find a crack in defense through which they could pass the ball. The defense is under a lot of pressure. The ball comes to Sanjin Mavrović, he shoots but hits the feet of the defensive player. Rublev reacted brilliantly to the rebound, scoring 2-0 in the opposite corner of the goal. Gooooal!
The goalkeeper was completely paralyzed stood in place. From the big crowd in front of his goal he couldn't see where that ball would end up.

in the 80th minute one of the few attacks of the opponent ended with a goal. After the player with the number shot strongly, Jelušić turned the ball into a corner with his fingertips.

The celebration of Sannyamathland players was short-lived. Already in the 82nd minute, the ball was won again in the middle of the field. Hongbo Deng has the ball, he runs forward. Our players are all opening up for the ball with incredible speed. Deng passes with great precision towards Katić, she towards to Sanjin Mavrović who has with his back turned to goal . Katić continues with her's sprint inside the penalty area, Mavrović plays forward with his heel towards Katić, playing a double pass with her, Katić is already only 6 meters from the goal and easily score for 3-1! Goooal! What a quality action that was !! Bravo!

In the 93rd minute, the third of four minutes of the referee's compensation, Sanjin Mavrović was fouled in the opponent's penalty area. The referee immediately showed that it was a penalty for the Srednjaci.
Mavrović takes the penalty, but misses, shoots over the goal.

Geschke says as he was currently in his post match interview after Tyskerlund lost against Mertagne by a scoreline of 2 - 1 in the Sólneyri Municipal Ground. Mertagne had dominated most of the match, with their Tysker equivalents struggling throughout the match. It was to be expected, due to this being the first international match Das Gefrorene Bataillon had played. Geschke takes a drink from his water as another reporter proceeded to ask him about the one goal Tyskerlund had scored, which came from Lutz Hielscher, one of the two strikers chosen for the team.

Hielscher was a slow yet calculating and unforgiving striker. He is part of the slower half when it comes to pace and speed on the team, but he always seems to have a deadly shot prepared. He was zoned out quite often by the Mertagne defense however, with many of his shots being off target because of it. Graham Marlow did a great job constantly moving to the center in blocking off Hielscher, and Geschke couldn't blame Hielscher for not doing more than what he possibly could have done, since it was out of Hielscher's control.

"A ball just slightly outside the box, a strong left footed strike past Ciaran Lavery to the right side. It was a great first goal for someone like Hielscher."

Geschke kept his words short, he wasn't the one to heavily touch the media and the press. Whatever he say, he would just let out and let it spread like a wildfire, even if it had major consequences for him and the team itself. As for the game itself, Mertagne got their first goal from a header by Georgina Haynes, who received the ball from a right corner kick done by Zara Olamendi. The second goal came from Kyra Mijancas who broke through August Fleming and Marcus Schaumann with a burst of speed that the center back duo didn't expect.

Another approaches him, asking about the penalty that Caesar Kasper missed which would have potentially dragged the game to a 2 - 2 draw. Kasper is an agressive yet loyal midfielder that would do anything for the team. He always has a sense of hard work, and can easily motivate others to do what he does. Though sometimes his hot headedness can get him in trouble, he was more valuable than he was worth the trouble. As for the penalty, Luis Ludecke (Who was subbed on) was tackled by Conwal Ibarborde in the box. Kasper had shot the ball on spot for the penalty, but it went above the post.

"It's terrible to see. Though, it should not be Kasper at fault. He just couldn't handle the nerves, and no one should be blamed for that. I would like to thank you all for your time to interview me as Tyskerlund U-18 manager."

Says Geschke as he stands up and leaves the room. He was never the one to abruptly leave in such manner, but it has been normalized in Tyskerlund for years, he will continue to do it even if it was found somewhat disrespectful. Now he, no, Tyskerlund needed to prepare for the next match... Against Sharktail. If Tyskerlund even wanted a chance to the next round, the next two matches were as vital as they have now became.

Let's take what a typical school day is for a Tyskerlund 6th grader in middle school. For 4th to 6th graders, school starts at 08:00AM and ends at 03:00PM (For 1st to 3rd graders, school starts at 07:00AM and ends at 02:00PM). Because the sixth grade is the end year for middle schoolers, schedules tend to be more focused onto academic studies (Maths, Science, Social Studies, and more), with lesser time dedicated to what is considered as "side studies" (Arts and Crafts, Music, and others). At 6th grade, 6 hours are dedicated to academic studies, while only 1 hour is dedicated to side studies. In order to maximize time spent, there is no break in between school day. However, eating in class is generally allowed due to this (As long as you don't make a mess).

There are exceptions on the schedule, however. On Muderren (Tyskerlund equivalent of Monday), all students are expected to be at school by 07;00AM to give respect to Tyskerlund's flag and sing the national anthem, Tyskerlund, Rise Again. On somewhat importat holidays but not deserving of a breakday, school lasts to 12:00 in the afternoon (4th to 6th graders) or 11:00AM (1st to 3rd graders). One thing to point is that in Tyskerlund, all months last thirty days, one week being six days and school being on five out of six days (Meaning that school tends to be more tightly regulated when it comes to timing and scheduling). This means that in one month (And if counting correctly), Tyskerlunders receive about 175 hours of school from 210 hours in each month.

And no, Tyskerlund does not have homework.

Quality defensive performance lifts Les Ccassalt’off to first victory

ESTDAL, Græntfjall – The Efnak Young Stars put in a brilliant defensive performance last night to defeat the 14 Stars before a moderate crowd at the Vínland Mótorvirkar Dome in Estdal, 1-0.

Mustub Kahakne’s team got off to a winning start at the RTC Under-18 World Cup in Græntfjall, as they registered the first ever victory for an Efnak national team. Nearly 10,000 Efnak citizens made the long journey to Rushmore to attend the U-18 World Cup, off the expectation of a knockout-round challenge from the Les Ccassalt’off and subsidized flights from national carrier Def Efnak. The Young Stars are led by their captain Alhu Kamoneff, who’s currently having a successful season with KFH Kehle in the Mas Ondde, and executed their counter-attacking plan brilliantly against the Starsian Juniors side.

Playing a fluid, attacking 4-3-3, the Starsians had a significantly higher amount of possession throughout the match, holding the ball for almost 75% of the match. However, this rarely translated to excellent chances, as they only managed two shots on target, both easily saved by Efnak keeper Ddablu Kahadfo. The Efnak counter-attack was executed to perfection, with pressure from the midfield in the center of the park led to multiple dangerous chances, the best of whom was finished coolly by the star man Kamoneff after an excellent through ball from Lomdumha winger Tupfok Kotsor released him in on goal, where he rounded goalkeeper Nicolas Valverde to slot into an empty net in front of the adoring Efnak fan section.

The remaining time following the 64th-minute goal was spent arguably as an activity which did not comprise “football” in any way, with the Les Ccassalt’off beginning a chain of fouls and time-wasting actions which destroyed any flow the game had had previously. The Starsians, while refusing to get drawn in to the Efnak attempt to raise the temperature of the game, were thrown significantly off their rhythm, and left unable to generate any serious threat to Kahadfo’s goal in the remainder of the match. The Efnaks would have the last serious chance, with two substitutes combining as Ddotla’s Acclem Kasomna whipped an excellent cross into the box that the lanky Ddaskupo striker Tesskel Ket’a headed just over the bar.

This marks the first victory for any Efnak national team against international opposition, as the senior national team failed to win a game at the most recent AOCAF Cup. The Les Ccassalt’off travel next to Goesberg to play Oberour Ar Moro, who themselves defeated Qasden 3-2 in Matchday 1. The match will be broadcast live (in Efnak) on MMSsE2, with match coverage starting at 6pm.

THE FOREIGNER'S GUIDE TO EFNAKIA - EDUCATION
Our foreign readers said “we don’t care about this politics bullshit, tell us what your kids do in school”. We listened.

With the increasing foreign presence in Efnakia after the liberalizing “Look Outwards” programs of previous governments, a parallel education system has emerged across the nation. Traditional Efnak education, known (derogatorily by some) as “patriotic education”, stands in contrast to foreign-influenced education, both through international schools set up by foreign nations and schools inspired by education systems of neighboring nations. In both education systems, classes tend to begin later than other nations, with students usually having to attend “opening bell” at around 9am, leaving at 3pm (except for weekends, where students attend from 9am to noon).

Traditional Efnak education is conducted entirely in Efnak, with the exception of mandatory courses in kaonkaccom (lit. “foreigner talk”, the general Efnak name for Common) starting through secondary education. Schools in the province of Melham additionally have mandatory courses in Melhamos. There are distinct “tracks” specializing in certain subjects beginning at the age of 12, with students in, for example, the science track taking higher-level biology, chemistry, and physics courses than the basic courses required for their compatriots in other courses. There has been some reform to the system with greater access to the outside world, with a larger focus on science, mathematic, and engineering tracks and decreased focus on the agrarian and military tracks, though all students are required to have basic farming, fishing, and weaponry proficiency regardless. These schools are most commonly funded by provincial governments, especially in conservative areas of Efnakia.

Foreign-influenced education, meanwhile, more closely resembles much of the rest of the world, with a “liberal arts” education getting increased focus. Classes are conducted in Efnak until the age of 10, from which students are expected to have sufficient kaonkaccom skills to conduct classes entirely in Common, thus allowing for schools to have access to internationalized textbooks without the lengthy and expensive process of Common to Efnak translation. These schools are most commonly private, but there are a growing number of provincially-funded schools of this curriculum in areas of Efnakia with a larger foreign population or where international trade is conducted.

Perhaps the most striking and most painful thing about Græntfjall was that it was cold. It was always cold; and it never seemed to get warm. It was cold when the team had gotten off the plane; it was cold when the team travelled through the streets of Hofvinger; it was cold even when the hotel room's heater had been turned up to full.

For someone who'd come from a country where fire was the dominant element, Græntfjall was pure hell.

Well, if you ignored the fact that Edmün Îmiév had moved to Tumbra when he was six, one of the many Farf — sorry, Rulandean, as his parents kept reminding him — refugees that bled out of the war-torn nation. Edmün by this point had become more Tumbran than Rulandean; he spoke Common as well as any Tumbran, though his Rulandese accent would shine through whenever he was angry, or experiencing any kind of extreme emotion. Which, to be fair, was often.

And that emotion had become a bit more prevalent when he'd learned that another Farf — one from Farolera, no less — was on the team. He'd considered protesting — after all, he didn't want to play on the same team as someone from another Farf nation — but he didn't want to cause trouble, and be seen as one of those troublesome refugees. The Tumbran government's refugee policy had been coming under more and more scrutiny; and the last thing they needed was a refugee who'd been given an opportunity to improve himself by the Tumbran government to begin causing trouble. Not when they team was going to try and claim a trophy that had been so cruelly taken from them at home.

But remember, son, you are a proud Rulandean, he could hear his father say, in his extremely heavy Ruland accent. And you cannot take anything from those Farolerans. If they dare say anything, you know right what to do to the—

"Dunno. Probably a way for them to make more money from us." Douglas scooped up a hashbrown, and placed it on his own sourdough bread, which already had an egg and a sausage patty on it.

"The other guests don't look too pleased."

"I wouldn't be pleased either if I came to a country to try their food and had to pay extra just to have a taste of another country's food."

"Fair enough."

The two sat in silence for a while.

"You know, I'm surprised you and Manuel aren't closer. After all, you were both initially from —"

"Yeah, we're from the general area known as Farfadillis, but we're not from the same bit. And you may know, there are eight bits, and we all fucking hate —"

Use your own experiences as a student to compare and contrast the education of pre-tertiary students between the Insulation period and today. (8 Marks)

Mertagnian education of pre-tertiary students in the Insulation was in many ways different to how it exists today, but also exhibits some similarities. One key difference is that secondary education is now mandated by the federal government, meaning that teenagers now have to stay in school until the age of 18. During the insulation, there was no government and therefore no mandate, but many companies required General Certifications in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics, which during the insulation could be gained at a privately funded education centre. Today, the government creates funding for 'schools', which the children of workers from many companies (and even the children of the unemployed) have to attend to receive qualifications, such as this one in Contemporary History I am answering an exam question for, which is my own experience as a student.

Another key difference is that you don't have to pay for school unless you want to. During the insulation, schooling was often given to the children of employees and child employees as a perk of the job, often associated with a salary decrease in kind depending on how many dependants you had enrolled. However, nowadays, everyone is able to go to a school for free, and they have the option of choosing which school they attend from the closest three schools to their registered address. Some students pay to attend private school, but many studies have shown that attending a state school is just as effective, and the top students in state schools get similar grades to those that attend private schools.

One similarity is that students exist in a similar place in the hierarchy, sitting below a 'teacher' and then a 'head of department'. Everyone has a boss, except for the head teacher, but even then inspectors come along to inspect the school from time to time to see if it is a good school or not. In the Insulation, child workers had one or more bosses, and almost never bossed around anyone else.

Another similarity is that everyone has a chance to specialise. At secondary school level, you are allowed to take exams in specialist subjects, in addition to the federally mandated papers in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. During the insulation, you were allowed to get a job with any company you wanted, even if your parents didn't work for the company, which allowed you to specialise if you didn't like that, for example, your mother worked for a pharmaceutical company and your father was a farmer. You could be a courier, or a baker. I have specialised through my choice of Secondary General Certifications, as I have chosen Contemporary History and Ancient History. I would like to work in a museum when I grow up.

In conclusion, the Mertagnian 'school day' as it exists now is different in purpose and format to the work day of the Insulation, in that education is performed not just to find a job, and is also a lot more regimented than the flexible working many secondary school aged people performed in the Insulation. In my experience as a student (I don't have any experience of the Insulation as I was young when it ended), I prefer being a student, because I don't have to work as long as a child worker would have had to, and I can spend time socialising with my friends on the recess court or in the playing fields.

Grader's Comments: A good answer which synthesises in well the experience as a contemporary student. However, try to be a bit more subtle in doing so, and don't specifically spell out that is what you are doing. Your experience as a student should flow into the points you are making, not the other way around. You have however compared and contrasted well, developing some of the points we talked about in class while also contributing your own unique ideas. I particularly liked the point about hierarchy - very unique!

Not a great start to the 16th U-18 World Cup

Brookstation travelled to the neighbouring nation of Graintfjall in order to begin their campaign for the 16th U-18 World Cup. The Brook team had done comparatively well in the previous edition making it to the Quarter Finals but there have been a fair number of changes in the team in recent times. There have been changes in the squad, in the manager and so on but one thing that hasn't change over time is Hoogewarf's craving to score and make his team win. Hoogewarf found himself on the field after a quite long time and as always he didn’t fail to deliver, scoring a brace and fulfilling his duty as the captain.

Graintfjall’s location made it possible for a huge number of Brook fans to travel to Graintfjall to spectate the matches and the Brook team received a whole lot of support from the spectators. The match had begun slowly with neither side taking up the courage to start an attack. The match continued in the same manner for quite some time before United Adaikes took the Dreamers by surprise when their left winger hit a swift shot from the extreme corner of the field straight into the reach of their centre forward who headed the ball past Wise. Soon enough Brookstation began to run out of possession.

The rate at which the match continued was indeed alarming and the thousand fans present in the Spocki Sparkle Cola Forum were ready to see their team in such despair. The first indication of positivity came towards the latter part of the first half when Ansue slipped past the Adaikes defense before single handedly shooting at the topmost corner of the goal, well out of the United Adaikes goalkeeper. Things just got better for Brookstation when Hoogewarf surprised the crowd with a surprise goal, delivering it from 23 metres away right past the entire line of defense.

This was a positive sign for the team but as always an entire half of the match still remained.
No sooner did the second half begin than the United Adaikes junior team got a goal from there first attack of the second half. The Brook defense had been out of shape towards the beginning and the opposition scored by taking advantage of the fact. The scores were tied temporarily but not for long.

With 18 minutes remaining in the game, United Adaikes dealt a strong blow to the Brook team scoring their third goal of the match. There was a high possibility for Brookstation’s first match to get ruined unless captain Hoogewarf showed up surprising the crowd with a shocking header off Sei’s corner at the 85th minute, ending the match on a tie.

Brookstation faces Ziwana next and unless they gain their first win of the tournament, things will still be vague regarding Brookstation's qualification. Stay tuned to keep track of all latest news regarding football.

NS-Verse Tjorl Lore

In Tjorl, students usually start the day with a short assembly period (usually held at 7:45 AM), where the school announces important information. After the announcements and national anthem, students have time (usually until 8:30 AM) to hang out for a bit before going into class. Students can order from the canteen, socialize with others, or take care of any personal matters such as homework, prayers, or hygiene. Two 30-minute breaks are held; one in the morning, one in the afternoon. Lunch break is usually held at 11:45 AM.

The Tjorlish curriculum focuses on berggrunn-subjekten ("bedrock subjects"): Integrated Science, Mathematics, Tjorlish, English, and Computer Science/Programming. The spesiell-subjekten ("special subjects") of Social Science (mandatory), PE (mandatory), Music, and Art are also taught. Those in secondary education can also take an elective course, with examples of which being Biochemistry and Discrete Mathematics. Branches of some subjects will also become their own subjects, such as Physics, Biology, and Statistics. There are a wide range of special clubs for Tjorlish students to participate in. Students usually leave school at 2:30 - 3:00 PM.

Focusing on passing and possession, the team tends to switch between defensive mode and counterattacking strategy rather easily.

Poafmersian fans are crazy about football, and their loud cheers ring about in the stadiums they visit. They are very willing to disturb the peace in the area to celebrate their win after matches, so matches are best held in the afternoon or early evenings. Apart from that, they do pick up after themselves, and prevent causing much trouble apart from celebrating. You can be assured, however, that they would be travelling around to support their team, so do reserve half the spots in stadiums for them because they would pack it to the brim.

After school, Græntfjaller lads run to the local lake: in winter, to play hockey on the frozen surface, in spring, to fish with homemade rods. Girls, meanwhile, return home for needlepoint, or meet for traditional dancing lessons...

So reads the textbook, written (if its current condition is anything to go by) 100 years ago. The truth is, young Græntfjallers are abandoning traditional pasttimes like fishing (more than 1 in 4 young Græntfjallers identifies as a vegetarian) and making corn husk dulls for modern pursuits like skateboarding and BMX riding, video games, and online streaming. The country's massive expansion of high speed internet has fed the latter interest, of course. Experts say young children are spending an average of 4 hours a day on screens, a cause for serious concern (except among young people, who are only concerned those numbers aren't higher!). Though football remains popular and basketball is growing, hockey clubs are finding it harder to fill youth squads, while traditional sports like bandy and slorkball are struggling, with clubs going out of business owing to low subs and poor attendance.
