Technically the original ranking system was never officially codified, so modifying it is completely fine in my book. If you or somebody else wants to maintain it with your system going forward they're free to do so.

I kept getting overwhelmed by RL to forget some things I promised to do in NSS (I promise. I opened NS to work on the FFI backlog and want to get it up before 8am Pacific tomorrow, ie before I sleep tonight in my time), and I am here to state that I would make an open request for someone to take over the maintenance of the ranking system.

With regards to Recu's proposal above, I think I like the concept and calculation, and thus far not have any concerns off the top of my head

I can take over, I don't mind. The advantage of the new sheet with some of the fun formulas I took from the kpb sheet is that in the future it will be super easy to update the rankings: the data for each cycle can be copied right from the WCC spreadsheet (since it has to be submitted to the WCC now anyway). And if we ever want to change how parts of the formula work, it should be pretty easy to do that, too

Final update from me, this time as de facto rank keeper rather than as tournament host: updated rankings are here. (Well it should be the same link, but it should also be up to date now.) I've sent the results from the 23rd edition to the WCC rank keeper so all you people who racked up lots of points can see it reflected in your KPB+ for next cycle.

As host, thanks again to everyone who participated in #23, I had a lot of fun! Your rps were all lots of fun to read. And a special shout-out to Val Z for playing along when I asked for godmod permissions for my last game! I'm looking forward to continuing the strike storyline in WCQs.

I'm overjoyed to be able to introduce you to old style figures. Technically they're a separate thing from the stylization you're referring to (so maybe you already know about them) but you might have some luck finding a font you like if you specify that you want one with old style figures.

Do we have an updated ranking for the IAC?

The RP challenge for football nerds

Hello fellow competitors at IAC-24. You may (or may not) have read my RP series in the competition thread, about a famous quiz show in Taxhavn that everyone loves. Here's the blurb:

For those of you who are not familiar, Tenuous Connections is a hugely popular gameshow in Taxhavn, in which a panel of contestants pit their wits against one another to make tangential links between one fact and another. The more tenuous the connection, providing it checks out, the more points you score. One ‘Tenuous Blackbelt Master’ is now the island’s most famous train driver Etienne Kobblers, who has the most astonishing and record-breaking undefeated streak in the show’s various seasons and spin-off championships. Each proposed connection in the quiz comes with a verification check by the super glamorous show judge Tammy Snopes. It’s gripping stuff - millions tune in every week and the ratings are almost always within a couple percentage points of 100.

In the RP series I mention that Tammy and Etienne are off to Saterun for a special IAC-themed edition of the show; and following a suggestion from our host, I am opening up the project for anyone who would like to have a go, or multiple goes, at using the idea within their RP. You don't have to of course, it is just another option for you to write about something. At the end of the tournament, if we've had more than a couple of entries, I'll write up a short little RP (even if I didn't make it to the end, which I usually don't) announcing the winner of the show, based on your RPs.

What to write? Well, take any one of your players, and (in traditional F7 style) invent a tenuous connection to 'AN', ie. the 'above nation'... the last nation to post at the time of writing. You can make it as simple or as complicated as you like, and it doesn't even have to check out - I won't be doing hard fact checks on behalf of Tammy Snopes. I may spot an inaccuracy if you go really wild, and if I do, Tammy might downscore you, but that's all part of the fun. Because - it's just for fun.

Here is a link to Etienne Kobblers doing one of his seriously longwinded tenuous connections - this is why he's a champion: his tenuous connections are sooooo tenuous.

(They'll still need to be updated with the new KPB+'s after the World Cup, and I'm sure I'll forget, but anyway, they're up to date for now. Please let me know if you spot any errors.)

Regarding HUElavia's bid, should prospective host venues be submitted after the bid is selected? Or is it ok to send them in before? Either way, I think the Olympic Stadium in Baseton would be a very appropriate venue given it was the site of the IAC 5 final. I can get an updated write-up together with whatever amount of IC information is desired.

I have hosted a previous iteration of the IAC with my proposed bid before, IAC 15, and during that edition, I edited my bid with the proposed venues as time went along. So, you're more than welcome to TG it to me. I'm usually looking for a paragraph or two about the host nation (City, culture, languages, things to do, like a mini host bid for said city) and one or two paragraphs for the venue itself. Whatever is submitted to me, I will use that in the Everything Thread as info for the city and venue. Please refer to the IAC 15 Everything Thread to get an idea of what I'd like.

We're still waiting on the Cup of Harmony so that version 100.3 of the KPB+ rankings can come out, but I'll make sure the ranks are accurate for everyone who signs up before the tournament exists.

Excited for HUE's bid, and hopefully will submit a venue for it!
