One month in...Yay
VONGHURST - As you recall, two weeks ago we ran the first edition of what was to become a regular feature where I would quickly wrap up the previous two weeks of the v.league and Division National as well as provide a forecast for the future. As you know, it's been another two weeks, another 6 matches in the book and already a picture of both the two leagues are beginning to emerge. However, like I touched upon last time, this picture has not been the expected one.

Remember how way back before the State Championships began, everyone, me included were making the prediction that the rest of the v.league wouldn't matter and thrughout the season the top story would be the inevitable battle between the two superpowers of CD Vonghurst and the Vonghurst Capitols. Well, as we were to find out in the Vonghurst City Championship, the Caps would fail to live up to their previous success and after an average season the Capitols would end up finishing Seventh. Two outside of the place needed to even make Division South. Granted, this was not the first time that the Caps had posted such a low performance. As one can recall, in the very first city championship, the Caps' finished 9th but, luckily they were pardoned out of that one because they had automatically qualified for the SRPD on account of the fact that they already existed. This time though, they had nothing to bail them out and thus like so many other clubs their season began and ended with the state championships. While saddening for Caps' fans, this brought much joy to fans of the Esperanza based CD Vonghurst. They were to be the sole favourites to take home the crown, and with their slow start (that they owe to the injury of Brown), many have thought it only to be a matter of time until they finally improve but, their results have shown otherwise. Theyve struggled against teams such as Prentsholme (who defeated them @ Estadio Norte) and Ironwillow (who should have won if not for a highly questionable call from linesman Geraldo Gavito). Some of their supporters point to their 5-0 of the Bears and their most recent victory against the Nuggets as a sign that things are improving. However, in all reality, these are teams they should be beating anyways. When it comes down to matches against teams that can hold their own, CD Vonghurst has been struggling to say the least. Sure, things may change when Rudolfo returns to the club but, I doubt it. With out him, they have more than enough talent to do well. Pèdro, Sanchez and Amador are all compitent strikers, and they have good support from the offensively minded midfielders Pèdrinho and Sanches Gaona. There is no reason that the removal of one player shouldn't hurt the team too much. Sure, some say that it damaged the chemistry that the Pèdro-Brown-Sanchez frontline had but, at some time the team has to either put up or shut up, and so far they haven't been putting up.
Now turning our attention to the other end of the table, we see how that the four way clusterfuck has developed quite nicely. However, instead of shedding a member or two like we had expected, it has grown to encompass the top seven (or nine depending on how you look at it) teams in the v.league. Each of whom are at most two good matchdays away from taking the lead. Which is currently occupied by the Artillery who have created a small gap between them and Laufston who are currently edging out the Big Red on account of points difference. Ultimately this is headed to what looks to be an end of the season. With no team that is clearly stronger than another, it will truly come down to a finish where each match counts. Thus, even the games played now will have an impact on how the table is sorted at the end of the season. Which can only mean one thing, good football.

While still baring some surprises, Division National has proven to be much less of a suprise to watch than the v.league. The only real surprise has been how poorly Atalanta BC has been doing. The squad, which lost their star strikers Jake Soroka and Moe Wallace have struggled to survive in both their state championship and Division North, and with both Soroka and Wallace and Soroka out for the rest of the season, it looks like Atalanta will be a victim of their continued ill-fortune which has plagued the team ever since they were sripped of their place in the SRPD when Amserica started fielding teams.
(While short this time around, we do hope that the Division National section will be lengthier this time around. There was just not that much to be said that hasn't already been said.)
