We originated from the Federation of Killer Toasters, a province of Carcerum that has a rich militaristic history. The province itself was founded when AI and robots achieved sentience and self-awareness. Carcerum imbued the robots with personhood, and they proceed to found ACME Corporation.

The original incarnation of ACME, created almost 30 years ago, was in the business of building and administering prison systems. They were so effective at this that Killer Toasters Province was designated as the official State prison of Carcerum. The Toasters strongly resented this, and a separatist movement began. Protests broke out across the region. The Carcerumian military shot and killed 100 Toaster separatists during a protest, and the civil war was on.

ACME proved itself to be a fearsome supplier of military technology to the Toasters, and made a name for itself during the civil war. The Hornet MK1 nuke was a best-seller, while the SO 9000, a bullpup rifle that fired 50 caliber rounds, became the firearm of choice for the Toasters. They created server room after server room full of supercomputers, keeping the AI targeting system online. Though many nukes were manufactured and sold by ACME, both sides were reluctant to use them.

The Toasters (and by extension, ACME) submitted to Carcerum after twenty-seven months of combat. Carcerum had superior numbers, superior air control, and had established an early stranglehold on the Toasters' supply lines. During a court martial, ACME was ordered to end its military weapons program.
