Indica International Airport, Southern Cynocephali

Indica International Airport, IIA, (IATA:IIA ICAO: SCII) is located N25km from the city centre of Indica, Southern Cynocephali. It is the only airport in Southern Cynocephali that serves international flights. The airport also functions as joint civil-military facility, providing a base for some Southern Cynocephalian Defence Force (SCDF) operations.

The airport opened to Domestic traffic in April 2011, and opened to International traffic in May 2011. The airport was built on the site of Lund Airforce base, a military airport that had been unused for several years. Construction was undertaken in January 2009 and completed in October 2010. The project was aided by the designation of the project as 'the overriding infrastructure priority' by President F.N Ramolino, and was completed with the use of mainly military labour. The airport was designed by eminent local architect Lars Leahroyd, who was also responsible for the unique architecture of Lilter Lyons Stadium, Lilter Bay Shopping Village and the Ruby Building in Lilter, as well as SC Automobiles Building in Indica.

The airport has three runways: 33L/15R - 3,135m (10,285ft), 33R/15L - 3,420m (11,220ft), and 06/24 - 3,685m (12,091ft) - all are asphalt; large and sound enough to accommodate most commercial and military aircraft. All are equipped with ALS, ILS, VASI and LDIN. These allow for low visibility take-off and landing with respective minima of 250m/900m.

There are three passenger terminals at IIA.
Terminal One (T1), caters for International operations, and has a total of 53 gates, with a SC Airways lounge at gate 7, with other airline lounges throughout the terminal (see below).

Terminal 1 was a bespoke design and uniquely constructed, and features an elegant contemporary design across three floors; arrivals, departures and boarding. Manufacturing of parts was spread across all of Southern Cynocephali and as such, the terminal incorporates many examples of local craftsmanship including Asylcut wood finishing, steel from Port Milne and over 100,000 panes of glass from Lilter.

There is a system of e-ticket booths in the terminal. These operate for all airlines with flights from IIA, and are conveniently placed for passenger convenience. Airport management has decided not to allow any individual ticketing machines for any foreign airlines to preserve the sleek and minimalistic interior design of the terminal. Each airline is allocated a bank of 4 check in desks per gate (airlines with a shared gate will be allocated space according to gate share percentages).

Terminal Two (T2) was has a total of 20 gates, with a SC Airways lounge at gate 4.

Terminal 2 was planned using existing military structures on the site as a foundation for the new terminal. The new building was given a major upgrade and overhaul, but in parts still maintained some elements of its original construction. This was heavily criticized by the domestic travelers using the terminal, and as a result renovations were commenced in late April 2011 to bring dated areas of the terminal up to the modern standard of the newer areas.

Terminal Three (T3) has a total of 15 gates. T3 is an international terminal and is exclusively operated by Northreach World Airways.

Terminal 3 is the newest of the terminals and is connected to T1 via an underground tunnel incorporated into the existing terminal transfer system. Inbound travelers are required to exit via T1 to pass through immigration and customs. Outgoing passenger administration is processed at T3 to improve passenger flow.

Gates 2-14 are in regular use, with gates 1 and 15 as overflow gates.

The general objective of our security is to safeguard operations, including personnel, assets and infrastructure, against unlawful interference with aviation; and to increase public confidence in aviation security arrangements.

Security throughout the airport precinct is coordinated and afforded the highest of priorities. Front line security roles are performed by contracted specialist security firms, with IIAA maintaining a strong policy, management, quality control and coordination role. We continually seek to deliver enhanced aviation security outcomes and take a flexible approach to meet contemporary threats.

Our approach to security is risk based, multi-layered and integrated. Aviation security measures and procedures are designed to deter and detect unlawful interference with aviation and to provide for a safe and secure enviroment for passengers, visitors and staff.

Passenger screening is performed using x-ray machines, walk through and hand held metal detectors, explosive trace detection systems with random and continuous explosive detection tests of passengers and carry-on bags. International passengers are also security screened before they board any connecting domestic flights.

Another visible security layer to the public is the presence of permanent protective security patrols which operate in each terminal as well as around the airport perimeter. This includes specialist and visible mobile, foot and bike patrols along with technical support from SCDF bomb appraisal teams and explosive detection dogs, all of which provide an intelligence driven, proactive and flexible security presence.

Behind this visible security layer is a network of multi-layered and integrated security systems technology which mostly goes unnoticed or unseen. There is an access control system with an extensive network of closed circuit TV cameras which operate 24 hours a day. Explosive Detection System (EDS) capable x-ray equipment allows for automated x-ray scanning of all passenger checked baggage to prevent explosives from being loaded into the hold of an aircraft.

Passengers and visitors to the airport also have an important role to play in aviation security and contribute to our multi-layered security approach. Security awareness signs, posters and public announcements are designed to convey important security information to passengers and visitors and encourage the reporting of security concerns.

Terminal Transfer: IIA's three terminals are connected by a 1.91 km elevated two-way shuttle system operated from the IIA Interchange. The shuttle system is operated by two automatic, three-car driverless SCA/Bombardier CX-100 shuttles which run on a dual concrete track with rubber-composite tyres. Travel times between terminals vary between 2-5 minutes.

Road: IIA is located 25km north of the city center, and is easily reached via the SC3 Motorway. Travel times vary from 30-50 minutes depending on traffic conditions. Long and short stay parking is available at IIA, but spaces are limited to 20,000. Regular bus services also connect the city center and the airport, with services every 30 minutes. Buses leave from outside terminal 2 at the IIA Interchange. A limited number of taxis are also available at both terminals.

Light Rail: There is a light rail service that connects IIA to the city center, with stop in the Indican districts of Curin, Condes, Grimethope and Shoen. Travel time is approx 45 minutes. Light Rail services are available from the IIA Interchange outside terminal 2.

The Los Rios Aerospace Training and Development Centre is operated in conjunction with SC Airways in bespoke facilities in Terminal 2. The LRATDC facilitates training for all SC Airways flightcrews at a local level, whilst utlising the experience and expertise of Los Rios Aerospace. The facility includes 4 simulators ((2 x 545, 2x 585/565) for pilot training, areas for theoretical instruction, and limited space for R&D programmes. There is also an interior fuselage mockup onsite to allow flight crew to get better acquainted with the aircraft before their first flight.
For more information on Los Rios Aerospace, click here.

SC Airways operates its main hub from IIA, which includes the SC Airways Maintenance Center. This is responsible for all maintenance, repair and overhaul of SC Airways aircraft. Facilities include three hangars, each capable of holding up to three widebody aircraft simultaneously. There are also Aircraft Maintenance, Engine Maintenance, Manufacturing/Repair, Component Maintenance (avionics/hydro-mechanical) and Emergency Equipment Maintenance workshops on site.
Northreach World Airways also has maintenance facilities on site, as IIA acts as a hub for its operations. NWA facilities include one widebody hangar, capable of holding three aircraft, and two single hangars. Operational capabilities are similar to SCAMC.
Under IIA regulations, other airlines operating from IIA can access these facilities when emergency repairs or maintenance is required.
SCAMC sevices: SC Airways, ELMair, and K.u.K. Fluggesellschaften

AVTUR (Jet-A1) and limited AVGAS refuelling stations are available at IIA. Fuel provided by Pullman Distribution Stations

The Southern Cynocephalian government has regulatory control over the airport. At present, the legislation includes:

1) limitations to the operating hours of the airport (does not apply to SCDF operations). This is as an effort to minimise aircraft noise. The curfew prevents aircraft from taking off or landing between the hours of 12am and 5am except in emergencies (approval from IIAA required). During extreme weather, flights are often delayed and it is often the case that people on late flights are unable to travel on a given day. The fines for violating curfew are set to a maximum of NS$1,250,000.

2) rotatation of runway operation, and fanning out of flightpaths.

3) use, whenever possible, of flightpaths over water, especially Indica Bay (33L, 33R).

4) use of noise abatement (reduced power settings, etc.) on departure.
..........4a) Prohibition of supersonic flight in Southern Cynocephalian airspace for all non-governmental aircraft.

5) Random inspections of all flightcrew licences, medicals and logbooks.

IIA SEEKING AIRLINES! APPLY NOW!

We formally invite all airlines to apply for gate access at the newly opened Indica International Airport, in Southern Cynocephali.

Whilst we endeavour to consider all applications, there are the following conditions:

1) Permanent gates will only be allocated to airlines will at least four flights per day, otherwise they will be allocated on a time-share basis with other airlines.
2) Gate allocation will be determined by IIAA based on flight frequency.
3) Minimum flight frequency is weekly (one flight per week).
4) Lounges will only be allocated to airlines with at least one permanent gate, and will be allocated at the closest vacant lounge to the airlines' gate.
5) Lounges require a one time payment of NS$1,000,000 for establishment. Lounges can be sold back to IIAA (for NS$350,000) if the airline wishes to cease operations of either the lounge or the airline routes, but cannot be transferred to another party without permission from IIAA. Lounges remain the explicit property of IIAA at all times.

Regarding sharing of gates, IIAA will be responsible for all signage and cosmetic changes between competing airline use. Boarding lounges will be decorated in a neutral colour scheme; all efforts will be made to not (intentionally) favour any particular airline over another.

As we are in the process of expanding our airport, we ask that you be aware that there may be minimal disruptions due to the ongoing nature of the renovation work. All work is scheduled to be undertaken during curfew hours so the disruptions will have minimal effect on airline operations. As a result, we are currently waiving the SC/IIA Operation Levy of $10,000B per flight. Whilst this waiver is not indefinite, all airlines already established at IIA once the charge is brought back in will be exempt from payment.

Kindly complete the application form and we will consider your airline.

Yours Sincerely,
Neil Jacobson
Indica International Airport Authority (IIAA)

We are pleased to announce that the application from K.u.K. Fluggesellschaften has been accepted. We have allocated use of Gate 17 for your use, and allocated the lounge at Gate 17 to your airline. We have scheduled time in our maintenance hangars for when your flights are on the ground, to undertake any necessary maintenance that is required. All our mechanics are trained SC Defence Force mechanics who have extensive experience across military and commercial aircraft.

We believe your choice of aircraft is extremely suitable to our airport and will allow use of any of the three runways, greatly improving chances of departures and arrivals in adverse weather conditions.

We eagerly await commencement of your flights.

Unfortunately the empire has not granted permission for routine aircraft flights travelling from The Republic of Southern Cynocephali to enter imperial airspace (over lands and waters) or land on imperial territory. Consequently any of these aircraft that are not making an emergency landing will not be allowed to to enter imperial airspace (over lands and waters) or land on imperial territory and will be forcibly diverted if such aircraft fail to follow our instructions whilst within our airspace.

Attn: ViZionair

It appears your administration department has failed to notify you of our communique. You will find that we have already provided this information, here: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3034&start=125

However, we do apologise for not providing all the requested information:
Indica International Airport - IIA - Whilst IIA is a small airport, it has recently achieved some of the highest growth in aviation. The airport has expanded its routes to over twenty international destinations and is now serviced by five international airlines. Whilst IIA is not even close to the largest airports in the world, it is renowned for its unique design and striking interior. IIA connects to such domestic locations as the resort town of Lilter and the stunning valley regions of Asylcut, two of Southern Cynocephali's most popular tourist locations. At present IIA services about 26 million passenger movements per year.

Yours Sincerely,
Neil Jacobson.

Ministry of The Exterior
Ministry of Transport
Imperial Airlines

Unfortunately the empire has not granted permission for routine aircraft flights travelling from The Republic of Southern Cynocephali to enter imperial airspace (over lands and waters) or land on imperial territory. Consequently any of these aircraft that are not making an emergency landing will not be allowed to to enter imperial airspace (over lands and waters) or land on imperial territory and will be forcibly diverted if such aircraft fail to follow our instructions whilst within our airspace.

To: Ministry of the Exterior, Ministry of Transport, Imperial Airlines; DeusII

I apologise for the delay in reply to your query. At first I was unsure as to the nature of your complaint, however on closer inspection I have realised you are disputing the flight by ELMair to your nation.

We are not responsible for the flightpaths of aircraft once they leave our airspace. As a precaution, we have warned our citizens not to travel on these flights, but will not prevent any registered aircraft from exiting our airspace.

However, as a further measure to ensure innocent passengers are not harmed, we will not allow any flights to DeusII to operate under IFR flight conditions. Departing aircraft will only be cleared VFR, and if not above minima, the flight will be grounded.

As the International airport for Southern Cynocephali, we do not control airspace outside our prescribed zones, and take no responsibility for aircraft entering foreign sovereign airspace when relevant clearances are not obtained.

IIAA therefore firmly believes this is a matter for you and the management of ELMair to discuss.

Yours Sincerely,
Neil Jacobson

We are pleased to announce that the Auremena United Airlines application has been accepted. We have allocated use of Gates 13a and 13b for your exclusive use, and allocated the lounge at Gate 14 to your airline.

Gates 13a and 13b were constructed as a converted double armed aerobridge for loading of smaller aircraft. Upon receipt of your request we have converted these gates to a double armed aerobridge to facilitate quicker loading and unloading of your passengers. In the event of an emergency on arrival (such as cabin disturbances, ill passenger, criminal activity in flight) the double armed aerobridge will allow quicker access for emergency personnel to any part of the aircraft cabin.

Due to the untested nature of the material from which your aircraft (787-8) is constructed, we will require inspection by our maintenance personnel prior to any flight being cleared to push back from the gates. This is due to the composite material fuselage of which the long term structural integrity and ability to resist microscopic fractures is uncertain. This will not in any way impact the operations of your aircraft, unless the aircraft is unsound. We don't anticipate any problems, this is just a precautionary measure to ensure the highest levels of safety for your staff and passengers.

We eagerly await commencement of your flights.

Best Wishes,
Neil Jacobson

Auremena has a similar system with the 787, as part of the certification process, the intervals which the A checks each aircraft must undergo are halved, 250-400 flight hours, instead of 500-800 flight hours. If you would prefer, we could schedule for A checks to undergo at Indica, rather than at Ostameva, or any other AUA hub airport. The 787-8 will not be delivered to AUA for another few days, and Indica is the fourth airport to receive 787 service, so service will not begin until early-mid June, when enough aircraft are delivered.
