Oh um... I'm ever so sorry, was I in your wa-

I started, swinging myself to look at who suddenly accosted me and the Earthen that was ever so polite to me (I did in fact hear what they had to say, about the portals and the plant, and their motion toward the shaman), stopping mid sentence once I realised who - or more to the fact, what - came by us... A human! That human might not have been able to see the sudden surge of light in my eyes past the spines that partly covered them, but if he did he might've been able to tell my surprise... And excitement upon seeing him. I couldn't even tell that he had oh so impolitely dismissed me, as if he disliked me...

For a moment I thought of opening my mouth, to exclaim my surprise and excitement upon meeting him, but my mind caught up to me faster, surprisingly... Why would I talk to him? I didn't prepare for this! What would I even say? "Wow, a human, alive and well" which'd almost certainly annoy the old-looking man even more than my mere presence (for whatever reason that caused him to dismiss me seemingly altogether)... I just nervously edged away, leaving the human to the Earthen... It was a shame honestly, I didn't even catch their name, and I didn't provide mine! If my mother was here she'd scold me for being so rude, but alas she's got oh so many spores to take care of, an almost innumerable amount of brothers and sisters of mine. Instead I just lightly waved goodbye to the rose, with a sheepish smile
I just went back to pacing around after that. I didn't want to trouble the Shaman even though they probably did have answers to my questions just yet, they already had enough of that it seemed... Though maybe now the human left them they'd be ready for me? No no, just give them a couple more minutes

Though something caught up to me... Or more to the point, I unintentionally caught up with someone else. The other human, the one I almost forgot about, and I stumbled right into him! I must've almost sent him to the floor considering I just walked right into his body like that, poor guy... I'm such an idiot

By Gaia's name! Oh I'm so so sorry for stumbling into you, I just got caught up in my own thoughts and I didn't see you and...

Breathe, Henrii... Breathe

... Umm, I'm Henrii. Hi... Nice to meet you. So who are you? Where did you come from? I've never seen a real, live human before! I've only seen skeletons and ghosts an-

Spirits, did he really have to hear that? Hand, meet face... Literally, I facepalmed at my own awkward talk

I'm sorry... I'm just in a state, I'm full of emotions because of this and it's kind of overbearing.

While this unfortunately impeded his progress, one did not achieve alliances if they voiced displeasure so early in an endeavor, and as such Fukuhara put on what was arguably a smile, before ending the conversation.

“I see, thank you for the information, it will be quite useful soon.”

What to do, what to do……

Well, he supposed that with meat seemingly being handed out nearby, he could make an attempt at befriending the slimes once again.

Moving his body over to the location of both the summoner and the additional Shroom-Creation, he (unfortunately rudely, but the ends justified the means in this case) interrupted their conversation for a moment to acquire some material of his own.

“Excuse me, sorry to interrupt your conversation, but I noticed you were handing out meat of a variety.”

“If I may acquire the same type of such as……”

He slightly gestured over to shroom near him, almost dismissively if one had already taken a disliking to the fellow.

“The individual next to me acquired, Such would be greatly appreciated.”

"Hm?"

Well, they were caught off guard by the sudden interaction. But hey, two's company! With the demand set, however, the Earthen complies, delivering the similar, borderline spoiled steak to Nori on what seems to be a large banana leaf. Something organic, simple, easily consumed, and digested. A simple meal, though it could easily be used for other purposes. Maybe he wouldn't need to walk too far with this rancid payload, though he'd also be met with the fanciful, curious local who was likely more familiar with such delights than him.

OOC: btw, I've chosen to drop most of the special abilities of my character since it seemed pretty dumb to make him blind as a result. So he's mostly a normal human now, I guess?

Camp Alpha, Green Island

Chupa Asatya pulls his kris out of its scabbard, making sure that the tip remained sheathed. Doing otherwise and not shedding another's blood with the dagger thereafter, would bring bad luck after all. He admired the wavy blade- a proud family heirloom passed down from generation to generation- and its hilt which had a carving of a mythological spirit coated in gold and rubies. He sheathed the dagger, and focused his attention back to the mission at hand.

Going out into the wilderness just like this would be foolish, he had to gather intel on the journey ahead of him, on obstacles he would face, hostiles that would threaten him and many more. The Earthen appeared to be very shy and kept to themselves, while the Shrooms seemed more outgoing and sociable. Between the two, Chupa would figure, the Shrooms likely had more valuable information that he could make use of. Thus, he walked up to one of them, politely introduced himself and asked, "Well, you probably have figured out that I'm here for the artefacts in the plant lah. What should I definitely look out for? Is there also a map of this area, or blueprints of the plant, I can get my hands on?"

Approaching the potion shop, the Shroom present was keen on gently swirling some strange clear fluid, squeezing one eye shut as she seemed a bit too focused on it, only to jump and toss the closed bulb up, before juggling it around in a fumble, then giving a nervous chuckle as she slips it away. So this was the alchemist, the potion master. They typically work with mages, given intertwined jobs. Potions for magic, magic for brewing. Details aside, she was... Well, tall. 7'2, yet jumpy, as she seems to be of a certain toxic breed of mushroom, one that had an easily recognizable red cap with white spots upon it. Her spectacles however also implied poor eyesight... But they were clearly for distance, as she throws them on to address the possible customer.

"Haha... Ah... Don't sneak up on me like that! Er, oh, that stuff? Yea, so you'll need to look out for the anomalies around the plant. Luckily the slimes wandering about are friendly, if you talk to one nicely, and express your interest in the plant, they can help guide you through and past the anomalies. Then there's the weird electrified fence, full of hostile... Er... Spirit, things. They uh, they are actively hostile. Kinda like living lightning, if living lightning also absorbed your everything on contact. Past that, I'm not really sure what's inside, but I'm certain there's not things that will actively try to kill you. Maybe. Hey! I only know what's on the outside. As for maps... Nobody's really got a map of the full place. Yet. Maybe tomorrow there could be some? I just sell and make potions."

So much for that. But she does get an idea for him...

"Heeey but while you're here, if you can get some samples of those slimes with this vial, I can make a special potion for ya. Something to transform you, temporarily. Like, goopy, slimy stuff. Could be nifty for slipping through cracks or avoiding getting crushed to death. Even if fire and frost will still hurt plenty."

Of course, she's quick to draw three empty vials, each one corked off, ready for samples. A possible side quest?

Chupa Asatya observed with great interest the Shroom's alchemy station and her work. Looking up to face the mushroom alchemist who towered over him, she reminded him of village bomohs that also made- and treated people with- potions with healing or pain relieving medicine. Though unlike the bomoh, he thought, this Shroom wasn't usually involved in excorcisms that often.

"Thank you, I'll keep that in mind. Are there any means to ward or 'kill' these spirits at the fence? Or is it best for me to avoid 'em and look around for another way in?"

Though Chupa found the idea of transforming into 'goopy, slimy stuff' quite off-putting, on this mission he was going to encounter entities and anomalies that he had never seen before or knew how to deal with. If anything, he could get all the help he could get. "Boleh lah, no problem boss. Just approaching a slime and kindly asking them to give up a sample will do the trick?"

Perhaps Insurrectionist was joking, but that grin indicated it was something else instead. The ridiculous and straight up malicious offer made by this strange man was unamusing. "Ah, you'll have to just.. Slip it in, pull it out. Like scooping water. As for that fence, well, we haven't really seen them get killed by anything, yet, but I heard if they are starved they jump out to chase things. Better to avoid them entirely. Luckily, it should be easy. Just uh, don't give them something metal or conductive to grab onto. Gaia bless those who tried to stab them... Lost to the strange creatures."

Simple. I mean, they are limited in reach... It's not like they can just reach across the field and swat down our adventurers. With that said, she hands over the vials, hoping to get her samples soon upon his return. It sounds easy enough. Just shove his hand in there with an open vial, gather goop, close it, come back. And the slimes are right there! Well, a long walk away from camp, but still right there!

"About the field, you don't wanna go out there, much less at night, there's something. And not something 128 rounds of 9mm can kill, which usually does the trick. I'm telling you, without chalk, or some sort of way to identify it. we're pretty much fucked man, I saw some bird get eviscerated, and I can assure you the giblets are probably still strewn in the grass somewhere... We sure as hell need chalk rounds or something of the sorts for this man." Remarked Insurrectionist.
"Joint operation?" He asked extending an arm for a handshake, the elaboratley painted PP19 (check the signup, i posted an image) slung around his neck. First, they were going to need a marking agent, like chalk, or something of the sorts, crushed glass under a flashlight could also work too, or so coule a thermal scope, Damn i should have brought one of those, he thought to himself.

He'd find himself having to walk out to them, though once he does enter their zone, it was... Pleasant. Rather than needing to chase one down, he was approached by two of the large blobby creatures, with soft chirps given, given their amorphous forms. Eventually they mimicked him, loosely, though the two that had come up to him were red and blue, both mimicking his male figure with rough detail for the same of simplicity. Now he just needed to give them his intent. That was it. A simple interaction... Well, unless he felt that something was off. The option is there. Press on? Ask? Run away? Make a choice.

--Very bright light detected adjusting optics...Optics have been automatically adjusted...diagnostics are complete--

Harold is a PT-726 robot, known for its durability, simplicity, and friendly nature. Despite carrying a Gasser M1898 revolver, it is highly unlikely that he would use it. Harold belongs to the OSDRT and was assigned to explore the place and its environment as robots are considered expendable compared to human lives. With a relatively low IQ but still high enough to be independent, Harold is designed to obey most orders which is why he is favored among the OSDRT. To enable him to do his job some OSDRT-grade software was installed that will help him record and take note of various things he might encounter, various software and important electronics were installed on him.

Although the environment was new to Harold, it did not stop him from checking out the camp and looking at the various stalls. He took notes and greeted every Shroom and Earthen he came across due to his friendly personality. After completing his inspection, Harold decided to get down to business and focused on two things...getting to Green Island and helping anyone with anything.

His first stop was the medical tent, where he walked in and greeted the Shroom inside, "Hello, friend. I hope I am not wasting your time, but I was wondering if you needed help with anything?"

His first stop was the medical tent, where he walked in and greeted the Shroom inside, "Hello, friend. I hope I am not wasting your time, but I was wondering if you needed help with anything?"

The Shaman inside almost recoils from the sudden appearance of the robot (then again, they just sorta WALKED in... Not all that sudden. Or subtle.), but they are quick to recover themselves.

"Ah, er... I'm not in need of anything at the moment, uh, yea? But I could tell you how to get into Green Island without being turned inside out, if you're willing to listen."

Well, at least he's trying to give a useful tip, even if he was unsure that the robot would save the information for later reference.

"Now, uh, about the slimes outside. Just walk over to one, tell it that you want to get past the field of anomalies. Or tell them that you want to go to the plant. They will guide you over there, on their own. But past that, you just need to avoid the fences and walk right in. It's that easy. So I've heard. And hey, maybe take a buddy with you. In case something goes wrong?"

As if. Though then again, we are talking about strange creatures, stranger events... Of course something HAS to go wrong.

One of the slimes cocks their head, but the blue one seems to nod, before waving the mercenary over, as if beckoning him to follow. It seems he will be the first one past the anomaly fields... If he follows close behind the slime, that is. Moving at a walking pace, the slime would first stop, then turn, before slipping around an invisible corner. If Don got close enough, he could just faintly sense his heart rate go up, as if his body knew what was there... Though then again, that was from the slime showing him. Indeed, he'd have to mimic their every move, or risk getting destroyed.

The small UGV noses her way forward as it emerges in another universe, the clashing, brutalist metal of FAAC Restricted Site 079 replaced with the rolling fields of what was once upstate New York - still stunning, but turned into a grotesque abomination resembling a Lovecraftian fantasy. Probes of all sorts fly away from the UGV as split second assessments are completed - the pioneer can come through. The distant bulk of a frigate can be seen in the far, far, distance as a man stumbles out of the portal with a severe migraine.

The man was clad in the olive-drab metamaterials that the Ardenians loved to use. A vest hung from his shoulders as a large rifle is slung over his back - a newer prototype, utilized by the infantry eggheads at Federal Army ANCOM. He carried a large backpack filled with the tools of the trade - nanites, automated medical kits, a laser designator - might come in handy later - a large radio hanging off the side of his exoskeleton, and the sterile dust of a laboratory.

A cable is thrown out of the cargo-container turned portal site/research lab - the locals watched it magically appear through some esoteric methods. He pats the UGV on the back as he throws green crate after green crate off the platform - foodstuffs for trading, couple of cameras - gold coins here and there. They are hapzardly thrown into a messy stack, to be relocated later.

The UGV whirrs away as it enters the container, the distant shimmer of the portal claiming it as it disappears - back home, to be retrofitted with a camera to observe wildlife in the local area.

He looks on at the collection of tents - and the container, sitting on the outskirts. He walks towards the town center - looking for some elevated areas to put the four cameras he brought along on the trip.

Don makes sure to follow the slimes path to the inch, not straying from the path. He feels a shiver down his spine as he walks past… something. It was much less a town, more of a camp on the edge of a forest. Trap cameras delight, though a bane if he intended to get clear sightlines unless he wanted to focus on the plant in the distance, looming over the rolling fields. God help him if he was dense enough to try to bolt for them, past the slimes.

But at least he has some snacks and toys to deal with. Without much else, though, he could also watch an interaction of a slime with Don, the slime slipping around some invisible threat, and Don (hopefully) following... Indicating that something was quite off about that area.

Again, being left on the edge of the forest, he could head for and into the camp, or just wander around and poke the trees. Or walk up to a slime and poke them with a stick. No harm in doing any of the above, truly, given this area clearly was not under the effects of the fog. And it likely won't be like that for a long while...

The slime continues almost happily, waving to Don for him to follow, before running forwards, pausing, then taking a right. That was followed by a left, with a small series of turns, before the slime held out their arms and walked free... To pause again. Another turn, another happy gesture, and he's about... Halfway through. The field seems to grow larger, perhaps, but that could also be due to the risk, given the viscera of a former bird splattered about. A fair warning to those who lack the capacity to realize grave danger.

With the meat acquired (and, unconsciously, an innocent shroom dismayed), Fukuhara made his way back over to the slimes, tossing the raw meat (and the leaf upon it) to the creatures, in an attempt to make up for his failed attempt with vegetables earlier.

Awaiting the consumption of the meat by them, he would sit down and watch the creatures, open to anyone who wished to begin a conversation with the fellow while he wasn’t in an immediate rush.

Don was trying to memorize the path when he saw the remains of the bird. Blood and gore are nothing new to Don, but the fact that something si completely destroyed the bird unnerves him. He shakes his head and thinks, “Get your head in the game. It’s just a bird. You’ve got a guide and a gun, you’re not gonna get killed. Stay calm and push forward. Stay calm and push forward…”
He keeps repeating this mantra in his head as he walks behind the slime towards the fence. He also thinks a bit about how he’s gonna need some more weapons if he’s going to continue doing this, but quickly pushes it to the back of his mind to focus on his most important task: following the slime

The slimes are quick to note the food, one pastel green blob quickly scooting over, despite it's already morbid size, shoving aide a purple slime and even a smaller pink slime, just to quickly absorb the meat and sit there, satisfied, as the meal was slowly lifted off the ground into it's mass and had begun to dissolve. The other smaller slimes however slowly move away, noting that the food was already consumed, but keeping their distance from an invisible wall.

Following the slime was easy enough, once in the clear however, the slime would retreat back into the field, leaving him in the open once again. Well, there was a fencepost, but soon enough it would crackle to life, a claw reaching out to try to grab him, only to be cut terribly short by it's stunted reach. More claws on short arms reach out from the post, as the angry crackle of electrical energy filled the air. So this is what they were referring to. And indeed, there were incomplete parts of a former fence, all electrified in the same manner, with some razor wire tangled into a few fallen chunks. He'll have to clearly avoid these metal objects if he wishes to continue. But the plant is within reach now.

Then, he turned around toward the frankly terrifying metal fence. He spots a gap in the fence a few feet away, and he cautiously walks over and ducks through. As the creatures (if you could call them that) crackle behind him, he takes in his surroundings

He's mostly in the clear, with another few chunks of fence. Again, they are spread so far apart, they aren't really obstacles, though how these creatures got into them, nobody knows. What is known is that the nearest door was over a dozen feet away, away from the scant bits of fence. He's in the clear, clearly. But the worries would only be beginning for him. I mean, he was still outside, after all. Though the cold, metal, painted door shouldn't present much issue unless he can't operate pull doors, to which even I would have to ask how he's managed to walk into a recruiting office.

All that aside, it's still clear skies overhead, with a very mild breeze blowing through.
