Over Union City

The stealth helicopter quietly carried it's Oblarenite Special Forces, AMAT (all missions assault team), over the new drop site. To say they'd never fought zombies before was a lie. A merchant ship had carried an infected into Oblaren. Oblaren is made of 5 islands. This ship docked to the third smallest island, a more rural one. A local police officer noticed one of the crew was staggering around and he went to investigate. The sailor bit the officer when he got close and it took two other sailors to rip the infected off the officer. By then the infection had spread. In one hour the fishing village was a third infected and rising. The army set up roadblocks and killed all the infected, no questions or hesitation. 207 people had been infected. Oblaren demanded answers and tracked the boat back to Union City.

AMAT was deployed without any warning to the Remnants. Oblaren didn't care how many of them might not want AMAT they were sent to find the source and eliminate it. And to collect samples. Break the jaw, cut off the arms. Leading the mission was Capt. Sally Vemar. She looked around the helicopter looking over the 5 others. They were nervous, like her. A green light came on and the soldiers repelled down to the cit. it was time to go hunting

Deadman's Express
Atlas LZ

Gunshots rang out as the feeble defenses at the LZ were overrun by undead. The Remnants were already lifting off, trying to escape in a desperate attempt at surviving. The Deadman's Express, U2-13's KRAKEN VTOL, still had it's dampened turbines on, and the moment the undead swarmed the LZ; Captain Muse M. Doubek had ordered lift off. The five-man crew ran about, preparing for battle. Statuses were shouted, until finally, all off the stations reported green.

"Shura and Yaro! Give the rest of the flotilla covering fire as they take off, try to keep them off Atlas 1-Actua--" She was interrupted as two Remnant VTOLs collided and spun out, nearly hitting the Express. Fortunately for the crew, Muse managed to swerve out of the way of the plummeting iron birds, unfortunately, she swerved directly into a bombed-out apartment building. The sound of metal twisting and engines flaming out filled the air as three VTOLs crashed, two Remnant, and one Shyluzan.

Several Minutes Later...
Apartment Building

Muse awoke with a groan, her eyes flickered until they finally stayed open. They stung. She looked around her surroundings as she fumbled with the seat-belt for the cockpit of the KRAKEN. The windshield was shattered, and the turbines were gone. Concrete dust fell lazily on her head as she fumbled around for the release button. Finding it, she slammed it down and fell several feet to the floor, hitting the carpeted surface with an thud. She flipped over, off her face, and tapped the throat mic.

"Everybody good?" she croaked into the mic, standing up and brushing concrete dust off her flight suit.

“Yaro here. I’m fine, Shura’s KIA though.”

“Petya, I’m a bit beat up, but otherwise fine.”

“Confirmed. Alright, Yaro, get to the ordinance locker and bring out the duffel bag, Petya, get the emergency radio and the flare gun, and bring Shura over here. We’re sending him off the airman’s way.”

“Aye. Will do.”

“Aye aye, captain.” A few moments later came Yaro carrying a duffel bag, and Petya carrying the bloody corpse of Shura. He set Shura down carefully, and handed Muse the flare gun. Muse bent down, and grabbed Shura’s tags. She stood up over the man's body. She aimed the flare gun at the torso, and fired.

"You're close enough, Jackie. These boys can handle it. Rendezvous point is the bus, Johnson. Make sure your team finds the Exantionians and gets back here unharmed, or they'll be hell to pay for each dead guy you bring back." Vladimir whispered coldly, turning to look at Johnson, the masked face staring straight into his eyes. Johnson pulled his grenadier's rifle up from it's original position and nodded coldly back, waving his hand silently to the others who would be on their team to move the hell up. They walked, deathly silent, to the back of the bus where Ed unhooked the back and let them out, the five man team dropping to the ground gently, and beginning their walk out.

As the back door of the bus closed, Vladimir got up, adjusting the sights of his VGM1A1 for a hundred meters or less, and looked out. Yes, he could hear it. But he couldn't see anything. Their gear couldn't catch anything beyond the bus's confinements. But he could tell. He knew. They were right there, hidden in the buildings. He cursed to himself silently as he stepped out of the bus, the rifle's barrel up in an aiming position, his eyes scanning the ground. "Ed... Get that MG up... Cover us and hold the bus. Tarzan... If you can, I'd like you to stay with Ed... I don't think your MG is going to be much use running across an open field."

"Roger." Ed whispered into the coms, taking his MG and slowly, quietly, pulling the bolt back on the hammer, cocking a round into place. He undid the bipod, and got up, the somewhat heavier gun confining his movements in the crowded space. He got to the front, placing his gun on the dashboard, the bipod touching the rubberized texture and sticking there. He quietly adjusted the sights to 100 meters, and waited, hand on the grip and finger over the trigger. "I've got you, Sir."

"Good... Louis, Max, Valentine, and Shinji... Get your asses up here... And be quiet about it." Vladimir ordered silently, and the four men got up, their rifles unraveling from their straps into their hands as they touched the ground away from the bus, spreading out slowly, almost crouching like. Vlad slowly began walking closer to the captain, and stopped when he was right next to her, already scanning the landscape. "Alright, boys... When they come out, aim for the head and chest. Don't bother with their legs... Cap... You and your men are the priority here, and you know that... We'll cover you and the nuke if things go south, but right now... I'd suggest getting a move on."
The beatings will continue. Regardless of morale.

Aretisia, Union City.
After five minutes, Alpha Group was still driving for their lives. Nikolai and Yuri weaved across the streets, trying desperately to regroup with the Remnants, but at the horde kept on pushing them into narrower and narrower space. Vladek and Igor were desperately mowing down the horde behind them, but the group of infuriated zombies, mad from months of hunger, showed no signs of stopping.

"We're down to the last 250 bullets for our AK-14's!" Oleg reported.

Vladek threw an empty clip at him. "Need more ammo!"

A grenade flew out the rear window of the Cadillac. The horde didn't even flinch at the huge explosion in front of it's collective face.

Vktor yelled "Don't waste the grenades, we got five left!"

The two car convoy continued to weave across the abandoned streets, attracting more zombies.

Nikolai finally saw a large sign up ahead that said "Santa Ana Freeway" and took the first entrance he could find. Yuri followed, but an abandoned car slowed him down and the horde almost caught him.

Nikolai yelled through the comms: "Yuri, you got the GPS. What is the fastest way from here to the bus?"

Yuri replied over the moans of the zombies "Down the highway pass the Disneyland!"

Nikolai yelled "How many minutes!"

Yuri replied: "11! Let go!"

Nikolai went balls to the wall and floored the accelerator as he went above 120. Yuri did the same. Soon, a large roadblock appeared, and Nikolai rammed through it. The car's fender fell off and the front end was crushed, but it was still able to move. They started putting some distance on the horde as it tried to squeeze through the cars everywhere, while Nikolai desperately weaved across the same cars, miraculously not taking a hit.

Yuri then noticed something. "There's a bunch of cars up ahead!"

Nikolai cursed. "A traffic jam at this time!"

A huge mass of abandoned cars filled their vision, the signs of a city desperately trying to escape. Disneyland filled their vision up ahead, but it was empty and cold.

The horde was far behind them, but gaining. Nikolai and Yuri stopped the cars.

The squad started running for their lives, but Yuri stopped.

"Give me the grenades, I'll try blowing a hole in the road."

Nikolai handed him the grenades.

"Do your stuff."

Yuri handed him the GPS, "I can't carry this thing around, I need both hands free. See you in two."

The squad started running while Yuri pulled the safety pins from the grenades. He then threw each one as far as he could, taking great care not to make it bounce back.

BOOM.

The first grenade blew a healthy chunk in the road.

BOOM.

The second grenade widened the hole.

BOOM.

The third grenade detonated early and blew up in Yuri's face.

Igor looked back to see what was going on and saw Yuri getting up. Even with a million pieces of shrapnel in his body, he got up! But the one second's delay was enough for the horde. Horrified, Igor watched the leading edge of the horde jump down into the collapsed part of the street, and then climb up to Yuri's side. Even though Yuri ran as fast as possible for a man full of shrapnel, faster than the squad itself, ironically, the zombies pounced on him. Igor's final sight of Yuri was a spurt of blood amid a group of zombies before he turned away, able to look no more. The hungry zombies ripped Yuri into shreds, but he found the will to life for an agonizing three minutes. Igor tried to block his ears, but he could not keep out the roars of the zombies and Yuri's screams, but he never forgot what Nikolai said in his communications headset to Task Force ATLAS:

"ATLAS... we have a man down."

Shadownian C-160

"Approaching eighteen klicks,'Said the pilot of the C-160.
"Check your gear,"Stated Master Sergeant John Pence as the ramp of the C-160 opened.

The clicks and shinks lasted for nearly a minute,as a voice spoke through right as the sounds died.

"Is this a good idea? We are jumping into a possible shit storm,"Killebrew had said, beginning to stand up. "Thats why were going a bit off track."John said, leaving the C-160,that was around 23,900 to 24,200 feet in the air.

"Thats the signal,"Lu said before jumping third from the C-160 as the rest of Viper Squad followed.

So far they were about nine klicks from the LZ,the golf course. As the group approached the mere two thousands, there was a sound in the team's com system, and as soon as on operator opened it's chute, the others did the same.

"How closer to the course?"

"Closer,"Pence had said while getting his first glance at Union City. "Prepare to reach ground,Viper Squad. Were in devil's territory now."
In the next fifteen minutes Viper Squad had reached Union City. "Toor, how many clicks to the course? We're meeting up near there." There was a silence that lasted roughly seven minutes before the squads radioman responded,"Right now it around Five K's."

"Well we should hurry then. Remember to have your eyes out, were looking for survivors on the way. We need to gather as many lives as possible, remember the briefing." John said, followed by a yes sir from the others via com-system.

Mac and Alice were grouped together, while Toor was alone with the others all dropped in a rather close area. Ten minutes ago was when all members confirmed their status, however it was still rather quiet amongst Viper Squad. Five Kilo's on foot would take somewhere around forty five minutes to an hour and twenty minutes. Suddenly John had noticed, and pulled out his rifle.

"Vipers,watch your backs."

Above the LZ
A V-22 Osprey neared the LZ, but it saw other VTOLs taking off. The Pilot hailed the Remnants VTOL:

"We have Pelican 7 on board, and we are here to assist, what do you need?"

The gunner was laying down heat on the zombie hordes, firing his gun away and watching as he reduced vicious undead walking corpses into chunks of meat. The VTOL's primary weapons weren't being used, but four thousand bullets and dozens of missiles could drop upon the horde in a single minute.

Minutes later
They watched as VTOLs crashed, and a few survivors were located by a flare. The MSFC VTOL lowered a rope ladder to pull them up before they were eaten alive by zombies.

Gunny yelled to the pilot:

"Search and rescue, we need to secure these survivors."

Lu let out another signal to his squad and other survivors while constantly looking back, aware of the erie presence that was possibly following him. He had his Glock out,and was wondering if he should had called out to his team that the golf course was a bad location to meet up.

"Pence,Sir,I suggest meeting up in a different location. The LZ should be getting swarmed."

Master sergeant John Pence replied quickly,"Alright, regroup Vipers. Head towards the location marked on your GPS."

The location was near a market. "If you can get a vehicle running in less then six minutes then hurry up,we need to get out of this area ASAP." Pence had said, gesturing to the rest of his group. "Hagmeir,Reatha, report."

"We are fine, sir. About fifteen minutes from the supermarket."

' I'll be damned if we dont have a decent vehicle...'Pence had thought to himself. Killebrew took out her rifle and said that she'd be keeping guard as the others went to find a working vehicle.

Toor was on his way to the regrouping point,Glock-19 in his right hand with his GPS in the other. He didn't approve jumping from the C-160,but the way John had put it didnt really make a difference,"Its either we pilot a VTOL into a crowd of undead or we stick with this," Lu recalled his commanding officers words from the day before they set off in the C-160.

As Lu spotted his first few sites of undead his reaction was to keep running, not wanting to be ambushed. As he looked back and realized that he possibly had a split second,he stared at his GPS,which read 1,490 meters till the market. Toor glared back at the undead, beginning to feel something wthin him. He didn't want to turn around and shoot the undead, even though his glock was silenced.

Outside the super market

Susan Kurj glared up at the sky,as it was becoming nightfall. "Dammit Toor..."She muttered. "John, are we waiting for Toor?"She said as Alice and Mac had both entered the parking lots.

John crouched down, not answering just yet,as he founded an undead under a truck. It was looking away. John grabbed his blade, and whispered,"Boo."

The alerted undead turned before meeting a blade in the eye socket, and John continued stabbing it ten times after that. He grabbed its corpse, searching for any keys. As he tossed back the corpse,he put his knife back in the socket and answered his squadmate,"Thats not the plan,"He said,"Although we cant leave him behind. We find a vehicle, and we find him."

John then viewed a Dodge Journey, which seated eight. He popped open the door, which was fortunately unlocked. He began the process of trying to hotwire the vehicle, looking up once and telling the squads sharpshooter to bring the others over here.

He heard a slight growning noise,as John looked back to see two zombies roamers approaching. "We have you covered captain,"A voice said over the communication system as five shots were quickly fired and the undead were dispatched. "Give me a minute,"John spoke out, thinking he was close to finishing the process of getting the car to run.

Fourteen minutes to the market

Lu stopped for a second, finally spraying out a round from his sidearm.he had counted around eleven standing. "Viper,we have some incoming company."

"Undead or Alive?,"A voice rang out over coms.

"Im afraid its option one, however im counting only around fifteen."He said, throwing the clip, hoping to get a shred of distraction. Toor began running as fast as he could. The kid was fast for having a piece of radio mounted on his back. Enough to outrun the undead at most.

"Don't waste your energy,Toor."John said,"We have your back. We also have a vehicle."

"Oh fu--"

The Buggy fell through the bridge; structurally weakened by heavy fighting in the past months, it finally caved under the armored car. The landing was soft but jolting for the S.O.C. Personnel aboard. Their radio had just started to go nuts, taking most of their attention away just long enough for them to miss the cave-in.

"Status?" Lennox coughed, looking bask. The armored hull protected them from being smashed against an old dump-truck. He was met by coughs, a few nods, and some colorful cursing by Dee-jay.

Salani sluggishly tossed his LMG out of the buggy, dropping down and trying to catch his breath. He looked around. Explosions could be heard in the distance, a flare shot up, and helicopters slammed across the horizon, into the ground and erupting into flame.

"Looks like shit's hitting the fan for everyone." He sighed.

Locke was kept from flying out thanks to his iron grip, and he was thankful the crash wasn't worse. He peered along their location, as everyone regained their composure. He spotted the glint of a rifle scope, just for a second.

"Sniper!" He called to the team.

The personnel scattered behind various cover pieces, most using the buggy itself for cover. The crash had not gone unnoticed -- someone had gotten a bead on them with a scope. Even worse, they could hear the horrific cry of a necro horde dashing towards their position. Kate felt sickened, sighting many lumbering corpses hungrily approaching.

"I've got contact!" She shouted, raising her rifle and sighting in one of the walkers.

PTHPT! PTHPT!

She fired a shot at a time per walker, and if they didn't drop the first time, they dropped the second. Lennox followed suit, trying to pick them off.

"Atlas 1-Actual this is Nest 1-2, we are pinned and requesting immediate--"

BLAM!!

A Sniper rifle round smacked the pavement next to them, leaving a large, burning hole.

"Shit!" Locke called, swapping magazines of his OBR. Undead were their priority, the sniper would have to wait. Any form of suppressing fire would draw more undead to their position.

They closed in on the SOC Team, able to climb over many obstacles. They picked off as many as they could, Lennox even going as far to fire his grenade launcher to seal a breach. As the remaining grew closer, they needed to swap ammunition more frequently. Lennox switched to bursts, attempting to draw the few to his position. Little did he know, one was hungrily waiting near him to pounce. It lunged at him, grasping his arm and attempting to tear into his stomach. His plates protected him, but he was unable to fight the beast off.

Then, it went for his throat, attempting to choke him to death. His Helmet's chops prevented any saliva from hitting his face. He was lucky this zombie was so dehydrated. His teammates attempted getting to him, but being surrounded as well, could not.

"Fuckin' hell, we're done!"

BLAM!!

The Necro's head burst, just as Lennox turned to accept his fate.

BLAM!! BLAM!!

More shots were fired, it appeared there was a second sniper. Maybe even more. Smaller, more frequent shots erupted, before down the road, men clad in black uniforms began sprinting towards them. They skit towards the SOC Team, still firing on their undead assailants, and their bright PT belts became noticable to Salani.

"Rangers! Those are Rangers!"

Without hestiation, the Rangers each raised a silenced G-56, and began peppering the remaining necros into submission, sniper fire covering them and eradicating further ahead beasts.

"Get the damn buggy and follow us!" One of them called, pulling Lennox up. A garage was open in the distance.

"You heard the man!"

Alpha Force, Platinum Soldiers, following Remnant bus:

“Hospital security systems should have locked off access to the roof, even without power.” said Nexus. “And the helicopter needs a key to start. Looters might have broken in and stolen medical supplies, but I don’t think anyone would try to take the ‘copter itself.”

“So can we take it?” asked Leighton, catching the small quadcopter sliding off the dashboard as Charles swerved around an abandoned RV.

“Hospital security is a mix of keycards and pin numbers.” said Nexus “Fire department has override codes, but the files are encrypted.”

“Can y-” began Leighton.

“Files are decrypted.” said Nexus “Pin is 2416, and I can fake the RFID code on your PCUs. No idea where the keys to the helicopter went, but I can teach Charles to hotwire it. By the way, the golf course just got attacked.”

“What?” said Leighton, straightening up in surprise as much as the seatbelt over his marshmallow armor allowed.

“Report’s still coming in.” said Nexus “Ooh, heavy casualties, Atlas-One-Actual made it out, but the Remnants no longer have the capacity to get everyone out. There are some other nations’ aircraft, although I think one’s down… no, two, the Exantonians got shot down. Hurtians have a massive helo, they can probably help if there’s anywhere to land that thing.”

“Are the Exantonians okay?” asked Thomas.

“Can the remaining aircraft get everyone out?” asked Leighton.

“How were the Exantonians shot down?” asked John.

“How big is the massive Hurtian helo?” asked Charles.

“I think most of the Exantonians got out of the vtol, they can handle themselves.” said Nexus “I don’t know if we have enough aircraft, it depends on how many people these things can carry in an emergency. Someone is hostile and has AA missiles, and its an Mi-6 wearing a massive cannon.”

“How big is the massive Hurtian cannon?” asked Charles.

“Eighty millimeters, and I think it can fire four-round bursts.” said Nexus “If that thing comes to your aid, your problems vanish in a ball of fire.”

“Or it does when the enemy has AA missiles.” said John.

“Should we be moving to rescue the Exantonians?” asked Leighton.

“Die erworbenen Namen has volunteered to help them.” said Nexus “I think you’re most useful helping th-”

“Roadblock.” said Charles, slowing the van to a stop behind the bus.

"Everyone. Be quiet. Get ready. They're here." said everyone’s headsets, as the identity of the speaker appeared on their goggles.

“Help the Remnants, get the helo.” said Nexus, whispering despite the fact that he was only coming through their headsets.

Leighton opened his door a crack, then opened it fully and hopped out. He turned back to the van to grab his rifle and raised a finger to the armor plating in front of his lips, signaling for silence. The rest of the squad disembarked as well, Charles took the time to retrieve his drone, and turn off the car’s engine.

“Noisemaker?” whispered Leighton as the other nations’ special forces began getting out of their respective vehicles. Thomas passed him a gray disk from his bandolier.

“Nex, you’ve got control of this?” asked Leighton.

“Not until you press the button on the back.” said Nexus “Don’t hold it in, or you’ll activate it.”

Leighton pressed the button and Nexus confirmed he had control. Leighton slipped it under the van, and walked off towards the bus, the rest of the squad following.

“That thing uses a Wi-Fi connection to talk to your uplink.” said Nexus “It’ll only reach about 300 feet, what should I do when I loose the link?”

“Put it on a one-minute timer. Max volume.” said Leighton. He then made a slight gesture with his head, switching his radio back to the group channel.

“They’ll notice us eventually.” said Leighton to the other soldiers around, doing his best to keep his whispers inside his helmet and use the radio for communication. “We should see how far we can get before we have to begin fighting.”

“ATLAS… we have a man down.” said the radio. Leighton saw “Nikolai, Alpha Group, Greater Soviet Ukraine.” in the corner of his HUD.

“Shoot, weren’t they meant to be with us?” asked Leighton.

“Yes.” said Nexus “They have become separated, I have their current location, they need help.”

“Charles, go with the Remnants.” said Leighton “Get to St. Joseph hospital and get the helicopter. We’ll go help Alpha Group. I’ve set a noisemaker here. It’ll go off a minute after I get out of here. Batteries should last a minute or two. Hopefully it’ll buy us all some time. Good luck.”

Leighton turned without another word and hurried back to the van to go and help the Ukrainians, followed by John and Thomas.

“Well, I guess I’m with you guys.” said Charles. “Should we get moving?”

It had been about ten minutes since the squad had set off for the crash site. The eerie quiet around them gave them the feeling that they were being watched. The air was thick, but Alekhin's words cut through the silence.

"Hey Sarge. Do these guys know we're coming?" She asked. It was a question that was on each of their minds.

"Yeah, I'd rather not get pegged by the people we're trying to rescue." Starke commented.

"I'm sure that they relayed the information, but the comms have been awfully quiet." Pitt replied.

"Did they give us the right comms frequency?" Sommer inquired, turning back to Pitt momentarily.

The Sergeant was silent for a few seconds as she tried to figure out anything to say, but her silence was all that was needed.

"Taking that as a 'no', then." Sommer concluded.

"We'll just have to be careful. Which means lock the chatter. We'll be there soon. Stay cool, and call out what you see." Pitt ordered.

The rising smoke column was a lot closer than it was when they started. As the mach went on, the girls had let their guns down at their chest. Now they were at low ready and their ears were twitching. There was something going on at the crash, definitely.

The dodge journey that the squad was using to get out of the undead crowded area was lined up like this-

Pence driving, the passenger seat was being saved for the squads radioman. In the middle,to the left was Kurj and right Reatha.
Killebrew and Hagmeir in the back. The trunk window was broken so the soldiers in the back could fire.

423 feet from the super market.

Lu quickly pocketed his pistol, and took out his bag. He chucked his C4 out as the horde was approaching.
"Fuck fuck fuck!,"He muttered, quickly pulling out the activator.
'340 feet..',Lu thought as his GPS alerted him once again.
"Toor, hurry the hell up!,"Shouted a voice through coms,"We dont have time..."

"Understood sir,"Lu said as he grabbed his pistol, which he forgot to reload. He blew the C4 right as the Dodge was in sight.

Scrape

Lu tumbled head first as he 'tripped'. He stumbled up,looking back to see a tall pale figure approaching him. "Shit..," He scoffed as he stumbled up as he used the detonation stick to smack the figure and evade being scratched back down.
Or bit.

A bullet soared by,but didn't hit the undead. His knife was in his pocket, but he just needed one more second. The other undead were approaching quickly, some less than eight feet away.
Lu had the detonation stick in the zombie's mouth, while he used his left hand to hit the zombie in hits skull. He shuffled off,as the passengers seat popped open. Alice pointed into the passenger seat with her pistol. As soon as Lu had one foot in,the vehicle sped down the road, crashing into corpses and a single roadblock. The tire was hurt, but the cars kept running.

"Weve lost most of the stumblers,"Mac said, reloading his firearms.

"Viper Squad, this is Albatross 2,we need a report.", Called in the C-160 that had carried the Vipers here. "No law enforcement, military,or civilians found yet,it appears one of our men has a minor injury, however we still have enough ammo,"John responded.

Lu took out a few items that would clean his scratch mark, and a bandage to secure it. "I-" "Its just a scratch, sir, barely that. The undead just knocked my leg down and tripped me. Im fine,no bitemarks."

Sierra Team en route for CSAR Operations in South Union City
The drive south, away from the park and golf is a relatively slow one, hindered by the abandoned vehicles littering the road. As the Humvee travels through the city, Fred on the Mk3 keeps an eye on the gathering horde starting to follow their vehicle, while Hart continues to monitor the radio.

'Damn... Things are going bad fast,' Hart thinks. 'We need to watch our step around here...'

"Sir, our little entourage is starting to catch up with us," reports Fred.

"Marc," Hart says to the driver, "can we go any faster?"

"Negative, sir. We're weaving around so much we could roll over if we speed up," Marc reports.

"Fred, use your rifle, start picking them off. Thin out that crowd a little."

"Roger that, sir."

Fred swings the HMG out of the way, and unslings his rifle. He affixes a suppressor to muzzle before taking aim. While hitting individual targets is extremely difficult from a moving vehicle, the closely packed mass of infected make for an easy target. Firing steadily with single shots, Fred takes his toll on the horde following the Humvee. The infected are so closely packed, that multiple targets are struck with each armor-piercing 7.62 NATO round. He runs through a full 24-round magazine before stopping.

"I must have taken down at least a dozen for sure, sir, lots of probables. Doesn't look like it made too much of a dent though."

"Damn... We might need to use the heavy guns," Wren says, glancing out his window at the horde.

"No, the noise will just attract even more of them," Reina says quietly. "I would suggest making use of your nearby Osprey before it returns to refuel."

"Sounds like a plan to me," Hart says, switching radio channels. "Viggen-6-2, this is Sierra-1-Actual. Do you copy? Over."

"I copy. Go ahead. Over"

"We need you to make a gun run on a group of hostile pursuing our vehicle before you RTB. Over."

"Roger that. I should have enough fuel to make the run. It may take a minute or two, I'm getting reports of hostile with MANPADS in the area. Over."

"Break off if you can't make it in safely, no point in unnecessary risk. Over."

"No worries, we should make this run just fine. Out."

Hart switches to the team channel. "Okay, Viggen-6-2 is going to making a gun run on those infected. We'll want to put a little more distance between us and them, Marc."

"On it, sir. The traffic is clearing up a little. We should be nearing the outer districts now."

Arriving in a relatively open area as the road meets up with several others, the team can hear the distant sound of Viggen-6-2's engines. Within a minute, the Osprey is in sight, approaching from directly ahead.

"Sierra-1-Actual, this is Viggen-6-2. Watch your heads, coming in for a gun run. Over."

"Roger that. Let em have it!"

The aircraft opens fire with its Mk3 MOD 0 12.7 mm Gatling gun, cutting down a significant number of infected with the weight of fire. As it passes over the horde, the rear door gunner opens fire with his Mk3, inflicting additional damage on the infected behind Sierra Team.

"Sierra-1-Actual, this is Viggen-6-2. I'm almost at bingo fuel, that's all I have time for. Air support will be back on station in approximately 30 minutes. Over."

"Roger that. We'll look forward to your return. Out." Hart switches to the team channel. "All right, you all heard him. We won't have any air support for about 30 minutes, maybe more. Let's keep moving and avoid drawing unnecessary attention."

"With pleasure, sir," replies Marc.

Crew of the Express

Muse was having a bad day. First, her pride and joy, the Deadman's Express, had gone down in zed territory. Second, the Express had taken one of her crew with it. Third, the KRAKEN's ordinance locker only had one rifle. Everyone had the standard KDA/2013-AIRH, a .45 cal revolver with a chamber of eight. But they each only had one spare speedloader. The rifle itself was outdated, being a KDA/1993-AR, which despite being the UIRS standard infantry rifle, was lacking a silencer. In fact, all the weapons were lacking silencers. The only thing close to silent they had was the small straight-bladed knifes they all carried, and the survival hatchet from the locker. Fun. The Captain sighed, and said, "Alright, Petya, you're taking the rifle, attach your knife to the bayonet clasp. Yaro, you're taking the hatchet and the radio. I'll take the flare gun. We're heading for the roof, the zeds are likely going to flood this building, so we're going to have to hurry. Once up there, you are free to fire. Once we get there, not before. We'll call for extraction, hopefully it'll come quickly. So gear up lads."

"Aye boss." said Yaro, selecting the razor-sharp hatchet from the duffel bag, he slung the backpack sized radio on his back. The radio itself had a range of two-hundred kilometers, so if anyone in an Atlas aircraft was in the city, they would hear them. Hopefully pick them up as well. Petya silently picked up the KDA/1993-AR. He was silent because he was mourning. This was an age-old Shyluzan tradition. The person who was directly in command of one who died in a poor fashion was to remain silent for a full day. Muse nodded, and they rushed out of the room where the KRAKEN had impacted the building. They hurried through corridors, cutting down any zeds they found until they came across the stairwell. It was one of the old style stairwells, the ones with the creaky metal stairs, and a corner into the stairs themselves. Yaro, who was taking point, burst around the corner, only to be tackled by a female zed. The zed spat all over him, but thankfully the flight masks they wore protected them from exposure. It tried to bite into his arm, but just before it did, a loud shot rang out.

BANG

The zed's head disinterested from the .45 hollow point. The headless body of the undead slumped over to the side, freeing Yaro. The heads of Petya and Yaro turned and looked at the Captain. The smoking barrel of the KDA/2013-AIRH clearly showed she had fired the deafening shot. There was a reason the AIRH was called the 'Thunder Gun' after all.

She stared Petya in the eyes, and said: "Move."

And so they did.

Petty Officer Petya Marvek Hiroslak, Technician
Airman Yaroslava Nika Horvatincic, Gunner
Airman Shura Zhenya Cervenka, Gunner

UITU-13

The Shyluzan team was hot on the tail of the Servinatians. Zed corpses and empty shell casings littered the streets. Occasionally, they would swerve to dodge a random zed who decided it'd be a good idea to wander the streets. They scream by, and then Pat would fire off a shot or two from the silenced KDA/2014-AIAR, and drop it. The car accelerated as Vi caught sight of the Servintian team. The eventually caught up, and Vi held them at a tied velocity. Asimov climbed out the sunroof of their vehicle to converse with the man who sat in the sunroof of the Servintian vehicle. He waved and called: "We're UITU-13, some of your escorts! We know that there's a collapsed building ahead from satellite intel! We're going to have to change routes! We'll follow you to the drop off!" With that, Vi pulled the car behind the Servintian's, and held the speed.

The convoy
605 Interstate - The San Gabriel River Freeway

The convoy, now comprising of two vehicles carrying the Servintians and the nuclear weapon, three vehicles carrying the Lantae troops, and one vehicle carrying the Shyluzan team, had just climbed the ramp leading them up to the 605 Interstate. The turning point leading onto the 105 Interstate, which would lead up to the Marina Del Rey, had been completely covered by rubble from a collapsed building. The destruction, along with the build up with vehicles and extensive damage to the structural integrity to the bridge warranted an alternative route. "Everyone pull over before the ramp off the 605 - I need to see all team leaders at the van; Captain Carlisle that means you, and whoever is in charge of the new guys that have turned up. When we stop, form a perimeter around the vehicles and anything within ten feet is shoot. Over and out, comrades." Vladmir ordered over the radio, waving his hand to his drivers and pointing down to the ramp.

"It's an unscheduled stop, yes, but we can take an alternative route. I suggest we follow up the river and go straight around the top, comrade."

"Then it'll take twice as long. We should be getting there as fast as we can, and with only a building in our way, we could simply just get off the ramp at Rosecrans and take it up to the 710, and then finish our route up the 105." Carlisle and Vladmir were debating their options on their new route. "It's a straight fucking line, all of the cars are on the Interstates anyway, so we'll get there quick."

"We also have dissidents on the streets, and we'll have to divert. Any resistance with a convoy behind us and we'll get overtaken. We cannot risk that, comrade." Vladmir was making sense, but they couldn't simply take a longer route. "What about this - we go through Rosecrans, but we turn at Clarke Avenue, then push up to the ramp for the 105. It means we divert most of the dissident, and we still make our route up."

Carlisle nodded as she adjusted the TACMAP Vladmir gave her. It could actually work - but they'd have to wait until the Shyluzan team leader came and gave their say in the matter.

The Shyluzan team piled out of the vehicle quickly, Zeal, Pat, and Vi taking up a perimeter around the high-end car. Asimov, however, walked over to Carlisle and Vladimir. He outstretched his hand, saying, "Sgt. Valentin Asimov, CO of UITU-13. You must be Carlisle and Vladimir. Good to meet you both. Is this the new route? It'll take longer, and we'll likely come upon some zed. But it looks like it's our only real option. My teams good." He looked expectantly at the other COs.

The vehicle slammed head first into the edge of the explosive-caused hole.

Mac and Killebrew were the first to leave, with Killebrew pulling the rest of the team out.

There were around seven injured undead and one uninjured and standing. Hagmeir continued to fire as Reatha rushed the others up. With Pence and Killebrew already up and dispatching the undead on their way into the pit.

The Present
With a glare in her eyes,Kurj awoke to a loud groaning sound. "Fuck.."
Reatha told the awaking marksman,"We ran into a gap,"She said quietly."Had a few in it...They were enough however."

"We've lost Toor,"Reatha continued,"Killebrew is injured from the crash, got her out in time." "What about them?,"Kurj said, getting in a kneel while pointing outside."Not a problem...Yet. After were finished treating the wounds on Killebrew,we have found an exit."

She grabbed her radio, updating her location and the status of her squad,"Operator K.I.A.,Other injured."

The convoy
605 Interstate - The San Gabriel River Freeway

Vladmir and Carlisle looked at each other and agreed that the new route was their best option. "Okay that's sorted then, comrades. Now, I suggest we keep the nuclear weapon and the van in the middle with Troop 1-2, My vehicles and one of the people carries up front, and the Shyluzan team and other at the back - that way, we don't right up front exposed for an attack." Vladmir replied to the COs. It was vitally important that the convoy ensure the protection of this nuclear weapon, but it was more important that everyone got there so it could be delivered and detonated.

"We could probably switch the weapons around, grab some more gas from the abandoned cars and change the tires as well... the only problem I have at the moment is that we don't have more time to armour up the cars. Those people carriers have some pretty thin doors, I don't reckon they'll hold up well to gunfire." Carlisle presented to the COs. Carlisle and many others in 1st Troop had experienced many a gang attack where the car doors were far too thin to protect them from the bullets of their attackers. "Have you got anything you want to put forward?" She asked Asimov.

33.884 N 118.164 E.

The three Hurtian operatives were promised reinforcements from one of the newer units arriving, but as they saw a Blackhawk fly-off towards the commotion of the main landing-site it became apparent that things were going badly.

Warning Orders were given to check with Nexus to make sure the operation could continue while the others listened to radio-frequencies as they worked at shunting railcars out of the way and getting one of the locomotives up and running.

In the distance they could hear several miniguns and small explosions chattering away. From Kayora's rooftop vantage-point, she could see what looked like a running car-battle along the expressway.

In the Fragmentary orders to follow, it was decided to send the Mi-6 over to the cluster-crash site to investigate and lend assistance. Radio-Contact could not be made with the Froxian unit because it seemed they didn't get briefed on what radio-frequencies to use, and things seemed to be going pretty swell in terms of the three of them being left to complete the mission by themselves without the bomb.

Gibbons fired an IR parachute-retarded star-shell into the air. Meanwhile, Foyt readied his machine-gun emplacement while Kayora set-up a few chem-lights (green, orange, red) and set-off a green one to indicate area clear X-hours ago; orange for contact, and red if the location has been overrun and is to be avoided.

Over Landing Zone

Jolly was still stading on the open loading ramp of the VTOL he was in, his eyes stuck to the carnage. The radio chatter right now was so heavy that he'd taken his headset off, it'd be impossible for him to coordinate or even begin to answer all of the updates as he just was. Everything in this op was going to shit quickly, and there wasn't much he could do about it. He ordered the crew chief at his loading ramp gun to pick up and close the ramp as he walked to the cockpit where the two pilots sat keeping the aircraft away from the ground where the undead crawled.

"Sitrep?"

The co-pilot looked back away from the control panels, "We've got several aircraft tasked to the task force moving in for reinforcements. The Exantonian VTOL was shot down not long ago. Several of our reinforcements are providing caesar, dustoff, and CAS. We've remained stationary here, sir, due to the fact that we have no weapons on board any of our remaining aircraft to provide CAS to troops in contact. We also cannot provide combat search and rescue, as we have only our crews and you. We can provide dustoff and relegate our craft to CasEvacs if you order, sir. Other than that, there's little we can do but cross our fingers and hope the troops get the job done and call for exfils at green LZs."

Jolly nodded and thought it out, remembering the several updates he'd heard about several hotspots and contact points, "We stay here until someone calls for our assistance, then we move to pick them up. But only then. The Exantonian aircraft was blown out of the sky, we can't risk flying all over hell and maybe getting shot at like they did. And we can't drag this horde that's currently under us to our troops on the ground, so when we're called we move as quickly as possible, pick up, and then go. How's fuel?"

The pilot looked over the display, "Our external fuel tanks are being tapped into, but we've got a couple more hours until we need to RTB."

Jolly put his headset back on, "This is Atlas One-Actual. We are staying put unless needed for exfil. Will provide quick-land-and-dustoff casualty evacuation for any team in contact or needing assistance."

City Center Team

Tarzan moved the the front of the bus and lifted his R46 LMG up and aimed down the red dot sight on his weapon. He aimed the weapon in the same direction that Ed aimed and replied to Vladimir with a simple nod and a thumbs-up with his free hand. Tarzan was strong enough to just one-arm aim the 10 kilogram weapon with little problem, but he'd need both hands to fire it accurately, so his free hand went back to holding tightly to the folded-up bipod of the gun.

Koopa looked to Charles, the lone Congreveopian. He watched the others move back down the road, towards the Ukrainians' troubles, which at this moment, seemed like it could be an issue. "Charlie. Stay with me. I don't want Leighton shooting me because we let you die while you were with us. That would only prove to be painful for me." Koopa grinned as he brought his rifle to bear and side-stepped out in front of the bus a yard or so before nodding and moving his rifle from side to side slowly to scan, "Captain. I cna hear them, they're almost-" Koopa stopped talking as he saw the sound turn to movement from around the corner of a building, he opened up immediately with a three-round burst from his R21 AR, which served as a heavy rifle. The silenced pops from the weapon caused the rest of the Sentinel team to move into action.

Oreo ran to take a stance right behind and off to the side of Koopa, a basic backup fire stance. He raised his SMG and aimed to a difference spot along the row of buildings as more shadows started to move, his faster and quieter silenced SMG starting to open up, his deep voice calmly relaying over the radio as the medic depressed his weapon's trigger, "Contact on the ground coming around buildings, left side. Several Z's."

As Oreo moved to support Koopa, Irish moved spun around and ran to the back of the bus, leaning around the corner, the barrel of his beginner-friendly R17 rifle rising up and down as he looked for any activity on this side. Ninja ran up behind Irish and tapped his shoulder with an open palm to signal his presence. The sniper's rifle was also silenced, but he'd have to aim oddly, since his scope was set to a further distance than was necessary for this engagement. Irish dropped to a knee as he felt Ninja's touch. He almost fell as he lowered down, the cumbersome pack on his back carrying the nuclear weapon making him slightly off-balance

Jackie nodded to Vladimir, "My thoughts exactly." She looked at Koopa, Oreo and the Congreveopian who'd stayed with their team, "Koopa, move forward, slowly." She looked to the back of the bus. "Irish, Ninja, collapse. Bring up the rear." She last looked back at Vladimir, "You. Stay alive." Jackie walked briskly to the front of the bus and tapped Tarzan's shoulder, "Stay with the Namenians, alright? Vlad wants you to stick with his gunner. I want you to stick with him and the rest of them, alright?" Tarzan nodded as Jackie moved away and closed to the Remnants out in front of the bus, "Sentinels, move out."

Ninja moved backwards, off the bus and moved back in on the rest of the team, slapping Irish's pauldron as he moved away. Irish turned to go, but was yanked backwards, the weight of the backpack making fim fall onto his back as a zombie collapsed on him. The walker had apparently rounded the bus' corner as Irish turned away. The young soldier let out a yelp of surprise, his rifle slipping from his hands as the walked fell onto him and started to bite at armor. Irish struggled with pushing the thing off, but couldn't manage it. As he felt nails graze over his cheek and teeth start snapping at his vest, he reached down to his upper thigh and pulled his handgun and forced it in between the zombie and himself, pointing upwards. He pulled thr trigger, once, twice, firing up into the undead's chest, even as the thing kept biting, eventualy it would find a spot to get through. Irish shifted the gun down and fired a third time, the bullet striking the zombie in the bottom of the jaw, the bullet exiting through the top of it's head. The infected corpse instantly dropped dead for the second time, and Irish grunted as he pushed the body off of him. He stood back to his feet slowly, a dull ache in his side making him wince. He must've fallen on a rock or something. Irish jogged to rejoin the group quietly, not thinking anyone had noticed, which was just as well, they'd rib him for being the FNG again if they saw it.

The team moved slowly forward towards the mass of cars, walking in between the wrecks and perfectly-in-order vehicles as they fired on the following knot of undead, leaving the bus behind, lost to the undead of the city as they moved on. One block to go until the school. Half a block to the hospital the Congreveopians had been talking about to themselves.

2 hours after touchdown

A single shot rang out as Frederick's assault rifle sang. One zombie fell flat on its face and the group entered the cafe. Captain Vemar checked her watch again, two hours. The group had been sticking to the shadows and interiors of buildings. Luckily their silencers kept their guns quiet. Each had felled several undead by this point but they had plenty of ammo. A single bullet to the head was all it took. That is until, they had to cross the road.

"Captain I see no way around this." Johnston said "I have no clue how a horde this big will react." Heinburt (is a Lieutenant First Class not Second Class like the others) said "Captain, as second in command I think a vote-" Vemar cut him off "Trust me, we can pass through it." Before them was a horde of at least a hundred undead. The only way to the main part of the city was to pass a highway to the other side of the city, the cafe was the last hiding spot. Vemar asked Johnston "Did they ever teach you zombie strategy in school?" Johnston shook her head no. Vemar continued "Well, I learned that camouflage is the best thing for any situation." Vemar took out her knife and cut into the undead Frederick just shot. "To pass by a zombie, smell like a zombie." Ryans interrupted "Ma'am it's a good idea for a smaller group but the last time this was used, you know, at the port, 3 of ours became 3 of theirs. They're all aheading toward the left side of the highway, probably because they smell something...or someone. If we walked through them the buggers might react. They're no plan B." Vemar asked "And you suggest?" Suddenly, a scream filled the air behind the AMAT squad.

A boy of about 16 was running from 3 undead, right in the middle of the road behind them. "Oh shit" cursed Heinburt. Platin swore and shouted "Over here!" at the boy. He ran to them as they fired at the on coming zombies. Then, they realized the horde had heard the boy scream, they turned from the highway and charged. The AMAT team opened fire and charged at the zombies. They ran, with the boy in the middle, toward a building with a fire escape. The horde swarmed around them but they were quick a jumped up to the fire exit, just in time. A zombie bit Platin's boot, but didn't break through it and she violently kicked the head from the body. Below them the horde groaned and roared, reaching at them. The group sat at the top of the fire escape panting and Vemar said "Well, I think my way was better." Platin looked over at the boy and said "Next time, don't scream when there's only 3."

Crew of the Express

The crew of the Express ran up the feeble metal stairs; not stopping for a moment as zeds were directly behind them, clanging clumsily up the stairs at a remarkable speed. Everything was going about as good as it could, given the current situation. That is, until Petya tripped. His head slammed into the metal stair at breakneck speeds, and that’s exactly what happened. With a sickening crunching sound, he went limp. The rest of the crew carried on, sprinting up the stairs as the screams of Petya could be heard emanating from behind them. God only knows what he was going through.

Just keep moving, Muse said to herself.

Just keep moving.

The door burst open and bright light filled Muse and Yaro’s eyes as the sun beat down on them. Yaro slammed the door shut, inserting the hatchet into the two handles. The small steel grip wouldn’t hold long, but it would hold. Yaro rushed to the opposite side of the building, and set the huge radio down. He tapped a few buttons and yelled into it, “This is the surviving crew of the Shyluzan Deadman’s Express calling all frequencies! We request extraction at…” Muse tossed him the flare gun. “... the purple flare! We are being overrun, so move your asses!”

With that, he raised the flare gun, and fired. The recoil slammed through his spine, and the flare exploded into a purple sphere of smoke a ways above his head. He drew his pistol and Muse raised hers. After all, Petya had had the rifle. She called to Yaro, “Request a ROMULUS drop on this position! We need all the firepower we can get.”

Yaro nodded, and made the call. Far above Union City, a small ordnance pod disconnected, and plunged to the atmosphere. A few moments later, a fireball could be seen above Union City, headed for the purple flare.

Then the hatchet snapped.

"There! See that? Survivors" Heinburt said. Vemar calculated how quickly they could get there. It was worth a shot. But with the boy her soldiers would have to worry about protecting an unarmored individual. Vemar pulled out her sidearm and passed it to the boy "Use with on them and not us. And for godsake's do not scream." Vemar undid her knife's strap and grabbed it, quickly connecting it to her rifle. "Let's go." She said. "Wait!" Johnston called "See that? I bet it's an airstrike." Vemar began running to the building anyway "There's no time to delay then." The group ran toward the building as fast as they could and fired a flare in the direction they just came from to lure zombies away from the building. They dove behind a destroyed building and watch the undead ran toward the new flare. Then they hushed into the building where the flare was. Unfortunately, it still had zombies. The group entered the building and climbed several flights, locking each door behind them. It seemed as though they had killed the undead in this building off, they had only the roof to get to. They were wrong. One jumped on Frederick as he entered but he rolled on top of it and shot it in the face with his pistol. Then another jumped on his back but Vemar shot it off. "Here they come." hissed Johnston. The undead charged down the stairs to meet the firing guns of the Oblarenites. However, Heinburt and Platin held their fire until the others started reloading, to open fire. Twenty zombies lay dead at their feet, the group quickly reloaded. So far no AMAT operative was down. However, they had not gotten too low on ammo or meet a massive group at once. Their lucky might soon run out. The Oblarenites climbed the last flight of stairs and Ryans shot the last undead clawing at the roof's door. Once they got onto the roof they closed the door and piled some things against it. Vemar turned to the two survivors before her "Hello there. We're here to help you."

Crew of the Express

"GET DOWN! GET DOWN NOW!" Yelled Muse at the new arrivals, as the fireball popped chutes, decoupled the heat-shield, floated for a bit, dropped and then fired the SRB landing thrusters. Hot exhaust filled the air on the roof, marking the location to any others, maybe someone who had an aircraft. Yaro had ran and tackled one of the soldier, shielding them from exhaust. Muse had hid behind a a pile of bricks, and the exhaust had charred the front side of the bricks lightly. They were a nice golden-red now.

When the dust had settled, a singular structure was new. A minigun, mounted on what appeared to be a barrel of ammunition sat, spinning, scanning for hostile units. It made an ominous hissing sound, and steam poured off the gun's barrel. Muse stood up, and said. "You got an evac plan? Or did you just come up here to get yourselves killed with us?"

"We can get you an evac right now. Our carrier is just outside the harbor." Vemar said "We came here to find a way to eliminate the undead threat and save survivors. You can help us or get ecav, your choice. But we are already getting a helicopter here to pick up this boy. And to bring more ammo." By now the zombies had lost interest in the Oblarenites' flare and began wandering again. Vemar asked "How many people were in this city? It will give us a number of how many undead are here, how many need to be destoryed. So far we're looking at just bombing this place."

Crew of the Express

"You don't know who we are do you?" Said Muse, fear welling up in her stomach. "You have no idea who we are. We were the crew of Atlas' UITU-13 Deadman's Express. We crashed here. We're just pilots," She said, gesturing to her jumpsuit. "We don't have any intel for you. Just hook us up with a Remnant VTOL, and we'll be on our way." She said sadly. Her mind flashed with images of Shura and Petya. The time Shura had gotten so drunk he passed out enroute to a dropzone, the time Petya had fixed the landing gear under fire from insurgents in Western Shyluz. She missed them terribly, they were her family. And now they were gone.

"Uh... Captain, we've got a problem. They're coming." said Yaro, loading his rifle.

"Shit, everyone, get in defensive positions behind the ROMULUS. Yaro, you try to get a hold off the Remnant flotilla, fire another flare if you have to. I don't care. Get us the hell out of here." Muse ran back behind her bricks, and charged her revolver. Yaro began yelling into the radio, screaming for evac, begging to have someone pull them out.

And then the screeching began as zeds ran up the metal staircase.
