Some days had passed since the auction message to Great Britain. CEO George was happy that Astro Reach could now expand to Mars, with the permit. In addition, he was also proud for the commendation guest by the government of Great Britain, for giving a single capital, despite being a small corporation. In fact, the scientists finally finished installing the jump drive in the new rocket the company had.

They were now having a party with everyone in the company, including the security guards and the higher ups, including CEO George and Secretary Diana. They entertained themselves and feasted on food. During that party, CEO George decided to make a small speech to the crowd, "Congratulations for installing the jump drive on our new rocket. As well all know, we are an aerospace corporation, which makes the jump drive very important to us, because with the jump drive, we can go to far away places in space in just a matter of few hours, rather than months of travel. Now, with the permit given by the government if Great Britain, I will send some of you to Mars in our new rocket, in order to study an anomaly." The crowd soon clapped and were happy about the speech.

The next day, CEO George decided to read the reports again, as well as scouting for opportunities. He found it when he realized that he had enough money in the company's bank to prioritize a new market in the area. He decided to use that to gain enough amount of data. In three days, he used that newly gained data to send the rocket to an asteroid, to mine it.

Andrei was relieved at reading the minutes from the latest meeting of the Landsraad. The transferal of the funds he requested to Blue Sky had been a narrow vote, but one passed all the same. With the injection of capital the newest project from the tech-heads could get rolling, and that was of vital importance; with Britain already leading in the space race, they would need to redouble their efforts to not fall behind the world's drive towards the stars.

Out from the Spire he looked, over the gash of brown and red in the countryside where the new edifice was rising. It was massive, a monolith of blastcrete and milisteel, and next to it even the heavy machines that he knew dwarfed the workers looked like toys. But to build better, so you sometimes had to just build bigger. And this was certainly bigger.

The Volksrat and Arbeiterrat meetings had just concluded, and Ratherrn Karl Gotthard-Hartmann was exhausted. Staring out over the heavily rebuilt cityscape of the Arcology and surrounding suburban regions from the view he had at the very top of the great tower, he hazarded himself an accomplished smile as he reminisced over the last half decade.

The middle-aged German, raven-haired with streaks of grey already and dressed in a plain black-white suit and tie, was still getting used to his life following the Praxis of his newer ideology. A life of some of the best the ashen Earth still offered had made him a soft and spoiled youth. It was't until a few years ago, under pressure from some of the growing political groups within the Metropolis, that Karl had decided to see just how the people he directed and ruled as Stadthalter. To walk as one of them.

Of course, he had always been told what the lives of the workers were life. He just never had actually seen such abject poverty and suffering until that day. It would have been easy for him to argue away and learn nothing. To continue as most of the corporate heads did. But Karl's empathy made the experience heartbreaking. Despite the spoiled life he had lived as a fifth generation civic leader and CEO, seeing the genuine despair of the slums of the Rhine-Ruhr made something break in him.

So he started talking with the group who had convinced him to go on the Walk more and more. And soon after Karl announced the reforms he pushed through the old Executive Board to the wider world. Soon many of their international subsidiaries had broken contracts with them and much of the wealth they had accumulated was burned through. It was expensive to alter their lives to such a huge degree.

But Karl had done all he could to follow his new praxis. Gone were the opulent trappings of his old office and lifestyle. He lived as close as he could to the conditions of his people. Alongside that Karl ordered social programs for all people working for the RRU to improve living condition and education. Without the old governments of the world, they were building something new and special here.

And the next step of that was the increased industrial and academic opportunities to be created within the region. The Volksrat had approved educational facilities and universities for use in education and research, alongside an expansion of industry. The Neuer Deutscher Staat they were building here required al to be educated, and to pull ahead in technology. And the eternally growing population of the region required more jobs. Factories, Industries, and everything involved in building new life for all in their home. Once that was finished they could focus on building up infrastructure to join the push for exploring space.

But for now, he needed a goddamned rest. The Ratherrn sat himself down in his chair, not much more than a faux leather model you could see in almot any office, and leaned himself back in it. Before he let himself rest, though, Karl turned so the back faced the door, and he could watch the clouds drift by out his window.

The calmness of the night was an eerie contrast to the nervous group of suited men sitting at the shoreline, looking across the black and sooty shoreline for something. It was silent, with only the ocean breeze breaking the frozen trance of the men, looking out into the water for something... Suddenly, all that silence was shattered by a tremendous roar. Screaming through the sky a massive fireball was seen, ripping the fog in two, dwarfing the ocean wind's force to a massive extent. And then, in an eruption of garbage and sea, it vanished into the depths. And with that the docks came to life: Spotlights turned on to aid the small boats going out into the bay. Workers with large cables lashed to the hulking shape below worked in teams to pull it out, aided by some 'procured' construction equipment. After a few hours of strain the mass was dragged from the foam, and onto the sand. It was quickly mined and crushed, every piece was used from the large ball, disassembled and sorted into it's various contents. Iron, Nickel, gold, silver, chromium, and various other chunks of compressed minerals, cradled in it's crash into the sea by a system of force shields. Not so strong as to block gunfire or any other concentrated force, but enough to protect the valuables from burning up in the atmosphere. By morning time all the valuable materials were sent off to be sold on the black market, while the less marketable things such as stone and dust were sent to the lab for further study. They had just found an insanely lucrative way of business, and Tuan Cham received more funds to continue his operations.

CEO George was now sitting in the chair on his office. He was sipping a coffee, while thinking what to do next for his company. His employees had manage to bring a lot of metals from the asteroid today, after few days of space travel and mining, the metals, consisting of both rare and common metals, were then either sold for money or kept for resources. Much to the joy of CEO George, this gave Astro Reach a lot of resources, though it also lower the demand in Houston and surrounding areas.

As he was reading the reports, he thought of another opportunity for his company. He realized about how Blue Sky gave the jump drive to everyone. He also read about how Blue Sky worked with the Hegemony. This inspired him to establish ties with both of them to further the company. Standing out of his chair, with a neat suit, he reached for the company's phone in the office, before calling the phone number of Blue Sky.

The Volksrat has already determined that the State of Great Britain would make for good economic ties with the people of the Rhine-Ruhr and invite their diplomats to work on the exact terms of this deal.

However, until this specific deal has proven fruitful we would prefer to stay unaligned. Friendship among equals is earned, not bought. In interests of continuing the global revolution we will consider this alliance in the future.

We of the Volksrat also recommend a name change for your nation. Something akin to "The Union of Britannia" To reflect leaving the imperialist past of the Empire and Kingdom behind. Continuing the oppressive institutions of Monarchy does not much become a progressive nation.

Beyond the above, it would be appreciated if we as part of the economic alliance could pool our efforts in the region of the exploration of the universe beyond the Earth. The industry of the Rhein-Ruhr combined with the resources of the Isles would be an unstoppable combination. We could be the first with a permanent habitat and colony on the Martian surface and guarantee the progeny of the human race a democratic and truly free future.

As for your suggestion of a Name Change, it has been pondered before and will be again; the counterargument to your points is simple - While Absolute Monarchy is generally oppressive; a figurehead is needed to represent the people without oppressing them, and a powerless Queen Regnant who serves as a point of reverence but not worship, who embodies the riitual soul of a nation, is a far better locus of devotion than ethnicity and even a single culture. Institutions unite those of different religions, races, and cultures, and the Monarchy, shorn of its power to oppress, is such an institution.

Better for unity to come from a powerless person who nevertheless represents inclusive truths than a powerful but exclusive devotion to race, religion, or just one culture.

The dappled sunlight on Table Mountain reflected up into the Spire, where Andrei was just getting ready for the day. It was a sort of smooth gentle light, the slight orange-pink illumination of dawn, and the Chairman really did appreciate the natural splendor of this neck of the world. Under the hot cleansing spray of his shower he hummed tunelessly, a boot-cycle of the brain more than anything musical, contemplating what all was on his docket for the morning.

That reverie was interrupted by a gentle chime just as Mekis was rinsing off under the scrub-jets, skin feeling as new and pink as a baby's. With a gesture of his left hand and a resigned sigh, he opened the line.

"Yes Sythia?"

"Incoming call for you Chairman. Redirected from Gruit's office in External Affairs. He flagged it for you specifically."

Hmm. That was intriguing. There weren't many communications that Andrei handled himself, aside from those of particular importance or diplomatic nicety. Obviously Anders thought that whoever was on the line needed to be consulted with at the highest level. The Chairman killed the shower, letting the buffeting waves of autonomous drying kick in while one side of his glass enclosure pinged up the relevant requisition.

Astro Reach. Another corporate executive calling for a chat- that explained Anders' decision. The rundown was straightforward. A small group based out of the autonomous regions of the former United States, few holdings, but aerospace expertise. Aerospace was the coming thing these days, Andrei smiled smugly, what with how the Jumpdrive had opened up a new frontier for the human spirit. As the dryers quieted down, the Chairman walked over to his closet and began dressing; a wave of the hand to the small drone that followed the master of Blue Sky, and the audio-only link opened.

"Good morning Chairman Jenner. To what do I owe the pleasure of a call from Astro Reach?"

And so the next batch of investors were hypnotised. The Milkman watched as they smiled and bowed at him before walking away, led by his wife, to the farms to work. He sighed. This wouldn't work forever, and one day soon he would need something more than his milk, if only to keep himself safe from these inquiries. A team of spies from Gold Corp had almost found the island the other day, and he barely managed to trick them with his milk long enough for it to take effect. He swivelled his chair around to look at the fields surrounding his farm house once more, gazing on the cows as they chewed their cud. One day these cows would help him rule the world.

For several minutes he sat there, watching, the setting sun casting the field in a buttery golden light. This was good. This was Happy.

And then his office phone rang, and he grudgingly picked it up. Of course, it was the Doctor.

"Tanaka, what do you want? I'm busy."

"Sir, the lab is all set up. The subjects have been sealed in their cages and the materials are set up. Even better, one of the delivery men we gave the juice to had the gene in him."

"I see. How are the subjects progressing?"

"Ah . . . well . . . " her voice trailed off, obviously reluctant to continue. "Subjects #7 and #6 burned out last night, the usual. Frothing at the mouth, seizures, uncontrolled use of their enhanced abilities and rage. But, sir, there is something you should know."

"What is it?"

"When Subject #7 began to burn out . . . they threw their lamp across the room."

"What is so odd about that? Enhanced strength is part of the reason for this entire operation. What good is a super soldier without strength?"

"No, I mean . . . they didn't touch it. It ripped itself out of the ceiling and flew across the room."

If he wasn't already sitting down the Milkman would have fallen over. This wasn't possible. Except it was.

"Doctor, send me the tapes. I will need to review this. In the meantime, Kumquat Harold Lavatory Gingham Query."

On the other side of the line the Doctor's voice became softer and more gentle. "Of course, Milkman. Have a Happy day!"

This was promising. He had had his suspicions when Subject #12 burned out, but this confirmed it. He hadn't only upgraded man . . . he had created gods. Now if only he could get them to stop dying all of the time!

In the turret of the Sentinel-class MBT, Commander Sten looked out over the descent towards the savannah plains of the Ulunti Nation. Here and there through the optics he could just make out earthenworks and prepared positions where the red soil had been disturbed by hasty digging. The Shoni were not going to be taken by surprise, that much was clear. But, truth be told, he was happy that the lowlanders were taking the time to fortify here. A smile crested the tanned Afrikaaner's face, and he ducked back down into the warmachine, causing his gunner to look up in interest. The captain deigned to explain.

"Mubutu's boys are pulling out all the stops to keep us from coming across the border. Every spade and gun here is one more they won't be putting into resisting whatever High Command has in its back pocket."

Gershwin nodded, chewing slowly on what was either lho-gum or a dendrite bundle.

"Figures. Shoni were never good at seeing any further than the noses in front of their faces. Sturdy enough when you come right at the commie bastards, but liable to break and panic when you disrupt their plans. I saw that back in the Kona Bush War, aye."

Sten had never been in anything larger than the skirmishes in the Congo, but he nodded appreciatively anyway. The tankers that turned back the Warlord of Zanzibar's armored wedge in the Naarsvaal had grit in their guts and the respect of the nation, no mistaking that. This was payback for when the Blood Brigades ran rampant in the first ten days, before the Warhawks cut them off from their supplies in Shonaland and made them pay through the nose for trying to go up against a real opponent.

The two men squatted in the turret, then the commander slumped back into his command chair, the retractable observation platform folding away automatically. It only took two men to run a Sentinel, despite her being a 92 ton behemoth with enough firepower to level a town on her own. They relaxed, waiting for orders to crush the militiamen cowering in their trenches.

That command did not take long to come. Across the veldt of Ethiopia and the eastern Highlands the tank armies and mobile infantry of the Hegemony swarmed like an army of driver ants, ignoring those regions where resistance was heavy, smashing down the whole rotting structure with one good kick. It would take time to bring the Horn into proper compliance, and the campaign was not without its casualties, but on the whole, it was a marked success.

Led by a staff skilled in using the truth to maximum effect without blatantly manipulating it (rather, they just emphasized what parts of it were most effective), they now began doing research on the anarchic regions to their south; anarchic regions that were once Europe. And by that, they were sending spies and receiving reports from them, looking to see what mood existed in France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. Efforts were also being made to request the Federal Parliament to use the scientific data collected from the Probe to bolster communications technology - Radio and such - so as to increase the breadth of one's operations...

The coordinates to remote sources would be much appreciated as a sign of good will. In return we could offer the use of some of our factories or laboratories within the next few years.

We can understand the utility of symbols and a focal point, but merely hope we can as a species move beyond the need for outdated institutions. Perhaps one day in the future it will be possible.

On the business of space exploration, being the first to establish a permanent settlement on Mars or Luna may be a good priority to pursue. It may be an initiative we would need joint participation to pursue, but would be an admirable step.

After months of research, the Clan had something new that gave everyone a new hope and a new leg in the Space Race and can put the Clan on the global stage, albeit if only fifteen minutes. Igor and the rest of the Senate heard what the Clan leader had started to say. They were amazed as they heard something the nobles never thought that they were seeing ever since the Gilded Age.

The idea was a low-orbital space station. To use the technology and the advances in space engineering to present an idea to make space mining more profitable, but at a higher cost. The Clan also said that they had been able to miniaturized the use of a probe and were able to use the orbital as a launch pad and with better instruments to help with advancing their understanding of the Solar System.

When asked when this can be launched, Undiav said next month as they had the heavy industry and the equipment to launch the orbital into space. This alone was something that many nobles wished to see and gave their approval to launch it and to show the world the Cossacks are making one step towards the Final Frontier.

After the question came out, Chairman Jenner answered it, "Good morning. It is a pleasure to call you, Chairman Mekis. Anyway, I phone you to talk about establishing a relation between us. As we all know, your corporation provided the jumpdrive for everyone, including us. While we recently gain a large amount of capital and resources from mining an asteroid, we are still a small corporation. We also still rent our launch facility in Johnson Space Center. Thus, we want to receive a little bit of aid from your corporation, as well as getting a permit to establish a launch facility and factory in the Hegemony."
