I'm hesitant to run as a libertarian candidate, since it wouldn't have much of a realistic precedent for president. I'll just announce my candidacy, then maybe we could discuss my character becoming a Republican nominee? I dunno.

Having another Republican would be good.

Douglas Norman Lafayette Andrews - Republican
Account Name: Beta Test
Occupation: Retired General of the United States Army
Political Ideology: Conservatism
Family: *ADD SPOUSE/CHILDREN HERE*
Background: Douglas Norman Andrews, more commonly known as Doug Andrews, was born on the 11th of February 1991 in Charlotte, North Carolina but raised in Ohio. His middle name was taken from a particular General of prominence at the time, and this in part inspired his future decision to join the US military, along with his family's own military history.
After attending the University of Virginia, Andrews enlisted in the United States Army, becoming an officer with the rank of second lieutenant in 2013. He served as a platoon commander in numerous locations and conflicts overseas, including in the Iranian War and the American intervention in Central Africa. After serving in these conflict zones and briefly at the US facility in South Korea, Andrews was promoted to the rank of Major in 2030 and transferred to a staff position in the Pentagon, which drew him away from the field but allowed him to make closer contacts in the DC establishment. By 2033 then Lieutenant Colonel Andrews was appointed to the staff of the National Security Council, where he advised President Comey and his defence team on the national security issues of the day. Comey's approach was within the mainstream of American foreign policy, but Andrews increasingly felt that the United States needed to be more prepared to use the full resources at its disposal to assert itself in the world, including modern forms of technology. Living in the United States allowed Andrews to further develop his political views, going from a generic Republican supporter to a staunch conservative during this period.
By the time he left the White House in 2038, he had received another promotion and was now of the rank of Colonel. Colonel Andrews served in yet another two American tours of Afghanistan, and during this period was promoted to the rank of Brigadier, and eventually Brigadier General. After serving back home in the United States briefly as a Major General, Andrews abruptly resigned in 2046 and left the military after 33 years.
After this period he took up an advisory post with a private military company, even touring with it in its deployments, some in conjunction with United States forces and others not. Andrews also began appearing as a pundit on cable television and a speaker at conservative rallies, decrying the administration of President Fischer. During his many years in the Armed Forces, Andrews had built up a large array of friends in many places, and some urged him to consider a tilt at politics.
In 2051, he announced his candidacy for President of the United States.
Faith: Episcopalian
Strengths: Charismatic, powerful orator, instinctual, well respected for his military service, well connected, popular with grassroots
Weaknesses: Seen to be a conservative firebrand, not experienced enough in domestic affairs, potentially short tempered and 'unpresidential'

Interesting change to California — accepted. I assume the Premier is elected by the parliament, and not directly by the populace?
Additionally, this constitutional change would, of course, come with its fair share of dissenters. Consequently, it will have been in court for the past couple of years — first in California state courts, which eventually refused to hear the case, then working its way up through the federal courts on U.S. Constitutional grounds (Article IV and 14th Amendment), and to the Supreme Court, which in 2050 remanded it back to Federal District Court for concerns of justiciability. Now, Circuit Court deliberations have concluded recently and an opinion will be issued soon, after which it may again go to the Supreme Court.

Vienna Eliot wrote:So it's a simple fact of roleplaying that we can't possibly write about everything our characters do every single day. To work with that, and to help as well with the formulas (mostly the qualitative ones) used to develop polls and results, everyone is welcome to post schedules of their candidates' week or day (depending on how you're approaching time in the RP — the day of the Iowa Caucus you might give a single daily schedule, whereas one day you might post a weekly schedule because everything is relative to a more important day).
I also invite you to post a range of multimedia. The roleplaying is great, I love it so far, but there are also lots of untapped methods of exposition. Schedules, as mentioned, as well as campaign budgets, correspondence with companies providing services to your campaign, letters and flyers sent to voters, conversations held over phone banks and by canvassers — these are all great ways to deliver information that might not be conveyed as well through other methods.
Also, I am keeping money in mind. If your candidate is unlikely to be raising money, expect their numbers to slip. Sometimes it takes a balance between big crowds and very, very small crowds to run a campaign. Last thing, sort of on that note, you'll notice the Iowa GOP's Lincoln Dinner and the Iowa Democrats' Harkin Dinner are both occurring ICly on the 20th. This can be an opportunity both to talk with NPC donors (feel free to unilaterally RP those conversations) and to meet the other candidates from your party.
That's all. FiveThirtyEight analysis coming in the IC later tonight.

I'm going to take down a list of NPCs and events people have made up, if that's okay. TG or reply with any additions you want. This is excluding official characters on the roster.
