For hundreds of years, the Wardens have safeguarded mankind from the threats of the supernatural. The world of magic is by no means unknown to the general populace, but it is the Warden's mission to keep the arcane from harming the mundane. The world of Oturn is made of two large continents; Ioslen, the Southern landmass, and Yigros, the Northern landmass. Humans have kingdoms and cities all over the world, but they share these lands with Elves and every kind of monster imaginable, and some that couldn't be contrived in the darkest recesses of mankind's nightmares. Magic users are welcome in some societies but persecuted in others. The Wardens are a massive organization with agents in nearly every human government and court, but they do not serve any one group or leader, and such is the reason they try and remain as secret as possible.
The Seekers
The Wardens have many branches that combat different threats to humanity. This is the tale of the Seekers; a small team of select individuals who seek out and secure aberrations; magical objects that have terrifying powers. The Seekers are based out of Ioslen and led by John Bartimaeus, an old veteran who has secured hundreds of dangerous artifacts. The Seekers operate with a large amount of autonomy, mostly free to run themselves if they manage to stay within the bounds of authority granted to them by the Wardens.
OP Blurb
Hello and welcome to The Tale of the Seekers! I am Cyberiad, and I will be your OP. This is an idea that I have been working on for a while that draws inspiration from sources such as Warehouse 13, Supernatural, Doctor Who, and many other elements from video games and novels. In this RP (which may spawn sister threads) you will play as a new member of the Seekers. You will be part of a team of individuals tasked with locating and securing objects with supernatural powers under the leadership of John Bartimaeus (My Character). Bartimaeus has worked solo for the last few years, but the Wardens decided it was time he had a new team. They found your character, and recruited them. They gave them basic training, and now you are ready to meet your new boss and team. The story arcs in this thread will be more of a railroad nature than a sandbox, but will still have sandbox elements.
This is set in a fantasy world that I am constantly working to improve, but it is difficult to build a world from the ground up. The running idea behind this world is that an event in our world in the distant future shattered and fragmented time. As the timeline tried to rebuild itself, time became jumbled, and different eras were mashed together, ranging from primitive pre-history to the Victorian era. This manifests itself as different regions of Oturn having drastically different levels of technology, but most have settled in a late-medieval fantasy-esque level of society. Some regions have people resembling tribal humans, and some are more steampunk in nature. This fragmenting of the time-space continuum also released magic into the universe (This also represents far-future tech). The world of Oturn has existed for billions of years after the event that fractured time, but due to time's broken nature, the world goes through eon-long cycles of destruction and rebirth. As a whole, time seems not to advance, stuck in an infinite spiral. The people of this universe are not aware of this save for "The scar", a scar or crack in space-time visible in the night sky. It is suspected that it is the source of magical energy in the universe, but it has existed since time immemorial(I know that this is confusing, so feel free to ask questions).
For the setting of most of this world, think of the late middle ages to Renaissance to early Victorian as the range for dress and societal organization.
The Hall of the Seeker
This will be your home during your stint as a Seeker. It is located in the small harbor town of Brineholde on the southern continent of Ioslen. The locals know it as Castle Brineholde, but it is a cover for the Seeker facility located beneath the small Castle. On the surface, the Castle is seemingly normal, but underneath is a bunker that houses an extensive library of lore and arcane knowledge, and storage for the aberrations the seekers hunt down. The hall also houses a Dwarven Gate, a magical machine that can open portals to nearly everywhere in the world.
Character Application
Below you can find the application form. A few guidelines: don't make your character too powerful, or too eccentric. Your character may be magic sensitive, but I don't want more than one or two mage characters. Your character must be human, or at least human-based (werewolves, vampires, etc). Your weapons can be magical items from the seeker's collection, but cannot be too powerful. Firearms are no prohibited, but discouraged and are limited to flintlock technology.
Please delete everything in parentheses.
