It may take several RL days before my character is complete, I hope you have a very long application time...

EDIT: Would having genius intellect be considered a supernatural gift?

Yes.

Edit 1: And no. It depends on your approach, and how much of the intellect ties into other abilities or skills.

Edit pi: I'll be online tomorrow, if the park group or Souls posts. I won't be on Sunday, so I won't reply until Tuesday if you post after I log off on Saturday. :p

I'm just trying to figure out how much "magic" is done in CK2 alchemy, and how much is hardcore drugs, what sort of gadgets and gizmos he may invent as a Hermeticist, and whether or not to have the Babel fish translate his speech as ye olde english due to him growing up in olden times.

My viking was originally from a ck2 game, but his home has been changed to my own alt history and worldbuilding. CK2 is strange about its magic. It never really confirmed if it works or if its just belief, but that dlc pretty much did. it depends on your character here though, if its actually a divine gift then yes, if its natural aptitude it might be better put somewhere else.

I was just thinking a few eudaimon potions (or at least, knows how to make one), but he may or may not have created a Radius Astronomicus (as his forte is Astronomy, with a minor in medicinal Alchemy). His traits are Diligent and Genius, but he is craven, and a bit wishy washy.

The book would be a magical item of its own, that consulting could give him insight into related topics. The potions? could see those as something he could make and consume for similar boosts to capacity rather than permanent things?

Potions would be temporary and hella nerfed, but hthe Astronomicus is a tool, not a book. He will be creating a Magnum Opus if that is what you're talking about, and it will most likely be magical, as Yedder (my character) will be very interested in the Demens's supernatural inhabitants and goings-on.

That being said, I wouldn't put down the Opus as an item on hand, as he has yet to create it?

@Tour Group

Per discussion in the Discord chat, here's the Raiders map that goes with what's currently in the holodeck:

Image

The holodeck is showing the interior of the History and Natural Sciences Building, and for simplicity, let's say the holodeck's door is where the building's upper right door is on the map. Holos of Baron P and Sandy are just inside it. The door is open -- neither Anais nor Amanda remembered to close it -- so the mens' holos are visible from the outside, as is the cheery, warm glow of a lot of fire. The worst parts of the fire are the reddish trails on the map, but other stuff is burning some too. The pillar of fire is where the reddish blob is. (Don't worry about the red ovals; those are weak sections of the walls, but there's no way for anybody to know that from the holo.)

The architecture is Greek monumental. The building is all white marble. It's a little more than 100' wide (100 Alexandrian feet) and somewhere between 200' and 300' long. The walls and 10'+ thick columns rise almost 50', where they meet the wooden trusses supporting the roof.

And FWIW, Amanda is wearing a black Agency uniform with a pistol in a holster under her left arm.
Gollum died for your sins.
Power is an equal-opportunity corrupter.

Hi!
Sorry, everyone. I've been flakier than a croissant lately. I shall post within the next five hours.
Come to the light side.  We have teamwork, waffles, popcorn, grape juice, and way too much ramen.

Unless one is a genealogist, therapist, geneticist, or FBI agent - who is acting within the scope of their job - to claim that anyone is wrong about their own identity is not merely absurd but also extremely rude.

Would "personal items" be what he has on his person, or items of great personal value that may have been mysteriously teleported to his room, regardless of whether or not they were on him/near him at the time of transferring?

What he has on his person or near him.

  • MAGICAL ITEMS
These are treated just like spells. You can combine more than one spell into an item, but the culmination of all those spells can not be greater than 4.

  • PERSONAL ITEMS
These are what your character has on their person when they enter the game. These are not magical or supernatural. If it's not listed, your character does NOT have it.

  • Equipment
These are things your character would need in order to do their job after they arrive. Someone arriving in power armor would need a charging station, for example. Do not worry about weapons or ammo - the organization has plenty to spare. Likewise, do not worry about a laptop. If you feel your character will need something unique (from the time period she comes from) in order to thrive, mention it in this section.

I see, so here is my plan.
My character, being the massive fucking nerd genius that he is, will no doubt require several tomes on various things, primarily on astronomy, and alchemy (alchemy being a very loose term for "how to herbally and homeopathically heal yourself, find various things such as metals and animals). I tentatively placed them under "magical" items because the ingredients could be used for magical things, it's just that Yedder doesn't possess a lick of it. Said magical items (aside from the Eudaemonic Draught, as it is a craftable item) would be also technically equipment, but be used for far more magical things than other books. Similar to how a doctor, while knowing much about medicine, may still need to consult the books because he simply can't remember them all. I hope this is acceptable.

If also possible, I would like to have his first manuscript also be there, perhaps as a housewarming gift. Said manuscript merely is about how stars are consistent in their pattern, and correlation between times and seasons, as well as (inaccurate) calculations on distance and size of said stars.

My only concern, as a CoOP... we have a lot of alchemists/potion crafters/chemists/naturopaths already. We have several geniuses. I'm not saying "don't do this type". I am saying that he'll walk in and find he's redundant. What does your character bring to the table that will set him apart from what we already have in play? The niche is heavily saturated.

Advice from the worldbuilder...
The astronomy books will work for the universe a character comes from. They may not be accurate for other universes. Magic/mythos based on star movement etc tend to not work in PL for that reason.

The bane of a multiversal RP... this part is for reference in general, and can apply to existing PLeeps as well as those seeking to join...
It's on the player to make the character concept fit the game, and not on the game to fit the concept. When a character comes to Galli, they come as they are. Their franchise physics and merits/flaws/scale do not come with them. Why?

Mythus character generation usually requires rolling 2d6+8 18 times and you need the booklet of tables from the GM Screen on hand. Video game character characters are a patchwork of base skills coupled with elements gained as the game progresses. Anime characters tend to be OP and manipulate physics for the benefit of Big and Loud. People that favor these genres come to PL and seek to recreate those elements. The game mechanics and physics won't bend to match the player's concept. Otherwise one franchise/system/worldbuild would take priority over all others (Star Wars, Greek Mythos, Call of Cthulhu, whatever).

In PL, it's not what a character knows or what he can do... it's how the character applies that knowledge via his thoughts and actions. The player conveys that through writing. Personification Life is a slice-of-life game taking place in fantastical settings. Characters have a purpose and mission, but more emphasis is placed on how those characters deal with life therein.

The merging of concepts and the compromises made are what keeps PL running. The departure from established franchise canon and physics gives the character an opportunity to grow in ways the original game never could.

If you're looking for an academic of some kind, I don't think we have any finance prodigies...or mathematicians...or architects...or paleontologists...or geologists...or neuroscientists...or urban planners...or astrophysicists.

Though I'm running on not much sleep so I might not remember that we have at least one of those, or that I might have missed something. Did you plan to stick with the astronomy idea / where are you now?

If you're looking for an academic of some kind,

It might help if you specify a general kind of character you want, e.g., an academic or a soldier, to help us help you.

I was initially being an astronomer, but perhaps a coin-counter would be fine. After all, Yedder doesn't take much stock in alchemy. Academically, it's an interesting theory, but not a likely one.
