Multiversal Mischief - OOC Interest Thread

Postby Dread Lady Nathicana » Thu Apr 13, 2017 12:10 pm

So, what’s this all about? Two lovely ladies off on a grand adventure. Where? Anywhere. Why? The need to get away from it all for a while, maybe learn something about themselves, maybe learn something about the world outside their usual, maybe even learn something about some other folks they meet along the way. Any limitations? Well, obviously we’d rather not be ‘destroyed utterly’. The tone, overall, is intended to be more light-hearted, but a bit of this or that along other lines wouldn’t be amiss. The prime reason for choosing this forum over the others, lays primarily with the option to consider some, if not all, non-canon, and thus more free to have fun with it, and simply see where things might go.

Character & location-driven, if it’s a place they can get to by spacedy travel, could be fun. No intent to impose on anyone, but open to all manner of people, places, and potential experiences within the realm of imagination. There may be locations we have in mind to go to, with approval of course. And hey, if there's no takers, we'll probably just putter around and see what we happen to come up with. No tech level restrictions with us, no particular 'no, can't go there' bits either.

Characters thus far + background:

Nathicana D'Aquisto, augmented Dread Lady and former Imperatrice of the Dominion, now retired. May be slightly mad, but is working on 'getting better'. Or rather, is learning to cope with loss that she previously refused to face.

The Dominion is an Italian-style not-so-far future to futuristic tech sort of place, given many are slow to really catch on to the cybertrain, and a great deal of the highest tech has been available to either the military or very wealthy. From an often-fought-over dictatorship to the wide-spanning empire it is now (through colonies and out-system holdings rather than occupations), there's been a lot of change, and a lot of hanging on to the old, the classic, the essential spirit of the Old World charm. Wine, the arts, a laid-back personable atmosphere with an emphasis on perception, on hospitality, and on family tends to be some of the most immediate tells. There is an unspoken attitude that Dominion natives are by nature, a somewhat better class of persons, but they would find it rude in the extreme to outwardly treat others that way. They prefer to show it in how they act, how they illustrate that superiority rather than rubbing one's nose in it. Teach by example, etc.

Some of the norms have adapted, due to alliances made and races met and befriended. Things like the close-lipped smiles come from associations with the Kzinti so as not to appear aggressive. When something rude or embarrassing happens in front of them, they will often focus on something else so as to not draw undue attention, or make the person more uncomfortable. Of course they notice, and of course they file that information away should it be needed later, but outwardly? Why no, didn't note a thing, do carry on. Gesturing while they speak is another marker, some more than others. They can be a very passionate people, and Nathicana more than most, in whatever she's gotten caught up in. While some hold a rather staunch view of Roman Catholicism, she herself is ... well, not quite 'godless' so much as rebellious and defiant of that aspect, for a great many reasons that go back to childhood (and likely needn't be delved into here.) There's as wide an acceptance there as there appears to be with reasonable folks they meet, at least on the outside. (Currently, in a more forward storyline, we're dealing with some of the fallout when internal prejudices get out in the open.)

They're firm believers in the multiverse (thanks to their association with the Triumvirate of Yut and the Scolopendrans, primarily), and in the theory that reality has broken - thus explaining how physical nations can overlap oddly in location, history, and all manner of things, let alone how nations come and go off our radars. Less brainworms that way. *nods*

S.H.O.D.A.N. - leader of the Queendom of Zero-One, small 'g' goddess, the Ghost of Citadel Station, appearing here in meatsuit Cyborganic Local Node avatar. Starting from there, our story leaves that behind, and begins here anew. For more information on her and Zero-One, you'll have to refer to the co-author, who has brilliantly brought her to life over the past decade plus here, and given depth and scope where previously there was a somewhat single-direction inspiration.

Main thread can be found here.

And there we have it more or less. We're looking for places to go, people to meet, and adventures to be had. As mentioned, this is pretty wide open - and as someone kindly pointed out (Thanks Swith) this OOC probably ought to have been put up with the IC one. Bit rusty on the startup open threads. >_> That established, has anyone got a destination we could make for? Someone we might bump into out in the space lanes? Have any questions? Commentary? Proposals? Let's hear 'em. A caper, criminal-ish naughtiness, a target for pranking? (Oh yes, pranks are a thing. It is known.) Let’s see where this thing takes us - hopefully, for some mutual fun and entertainment.

Nah, no need for filling out all of that formal-like, which may be out of style these days considering how complex some rp's are getting. Trying to keep it simple here, and more for entertainment purposes overall.

We have our own locations, and additional characters - that isn't a problem. And if it helps to set it up more in that direction initially, I'm happy to do it. Think of this as an opportunity to showcase something you may want to, without a long-term commitment or overly-complicated planning. Have a character you'd like to try out? No problem. Have a location you've been wanting to highlight? Lets see it. Have an idea for something a little out of your usual that interests you? Hit us up.

And if nothing comes to mind, but you'd like to toss someone into the mix for a little while, post that and we'll come up with a scenario to run through.

Short stories full of ... well, whatever strikes everyone's fancy, really. With the option of having it impact outside the thread, or not - as you like. Sandboxing? Possibly, a bit. It seemed to be something of a different direction that what usually gets run, and thus, potentially fun and interesting.

Or not. Guess we'll see. :)

That said - if anyone WANTS to put up a bio or reference here for their character, or their location, or has any information they want to share that they don't want to clutter up the IC thread with - that's what OOC threads are for - feel free to make use of it to your heart's content. Did I mention that with this comes the unusual approach of 'your location, your rules'? Meaning we can't RP your things, we don't set the rules of conduct, and we would literally be guests in your little corner of the multiverse for the duration of the stay/story. And when moving on, the rules would shift to whoever's pad we land at next. Should that happen to be in our back yard, we'd let folks know any limitations or expectations to go along with it.

Yep. Something completely different. Or at least, something I haven't seen the like of in a very, very long time. Like, 2003-ish, for ref.

It hearkens back to old school NS style indeed.

I thought to temper my nonsense down. Then I realized my nonsense is rusty. Psh. I got this. I'll drop in a Construct.

Edit: pounded out a draft. I should have it posted before bed.

Speaking of oldschool, <tag>

Postby Zero-One » Fri Apr 14, 2017 9:29 pm

Shodey--in this case going by the obvious handle "Shade"--is definitely pulling out all the stops when it comes to 1980s cyberpunk fashion tropes. This particular Cyborganic Local Node is primarily meat-based, though filled with enough inorganic augments of both mind and body to make the distinction disputable (and hide the kernel linking her back to the rest of the gestalt). Imagine your standard-issue street samurai loadout, minus gimmicks like razornails or concealed forearm guns, and you wouldn't be too far off the mark. There's a few surprise details in the augments--mostly in the form of patterns in the bone lacing and whatnot--to provide for what we'll politely call "contingencies:" think of it of a way to ICly deus ex machina actualize the OOC intent that these adventures not be terminal. I don't expect them to come into play; I'm just putting them into the record.

She's certainly mad in a very sane way and openly admits this. She's along for the ride to mostly make sure that her sister-in-mind, one Nathi mentioned above, can reach a vaguely similar state without getting unduly hurt in the process (some pain can be constructive, after all, and still some other pain can be fun). Secondary objectives include indulging her mischievous streak and legendarily low sense of humor.

Cyberpunk? I'm in heaven.

Nobody worry about my character's tech, please. Way back in the day, I volunteered to play the antagonist in our old NS RP Group. The tech evolved through play over years of wargaming (mechanics-base: dice, exhaustive TOE lists, hard science applied). In story-driven nation RP, my objective isn't to win. Rather, I seek to give players a challenge. In the end, the hero needs to shine, saving the day against the Big Bad menace. In 2012, I left the "Convocation" behind and used colony nations in NS. There wasn't any need to be the big bad.

In P2TM, I refuse to play the antagonist. It's more fun to parody my canon. I loves me some tropes.

Indicus Malevolum ("blue broody") is a Living Ship. You can't do much with something too large to fit inside corridors, so the Exo defaults to comic relief and a bit of firepower if we need it. She'll cruise beside the main ship or, if Nathi allow it, settle on top of it like a big dog enjoying the bed of a pickup truck. The pilot is the main character.

Enea is a Spaceship Girl, and new. "First contact" with other races tends to mold Constructs, so Enea will take her cues from the people she's around the most. As a final trope reference, she's pretty ignorant of many things outside her nation. This gives other players the opportunity to share their own stuff through dialog.

Let me know if she doesn't work. I can always throw in something new. Otherwise, offer her some tea and she'll join the party. :p

Very intriguing, when I get the chance I'll make a character for this. Probably someone from an off-shoot Space!brand of the Wilhelm Imperium.

Ducking out the door for last minute shopping. I'll work on a character once I'm home again.

Nathi, how large is the ship? I'm thinking of setting up in the galley, if you've one at hand. Good cooking, good beer, and laid back advice from a fat friar.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Truth be told, it's just a wee dropship. Well, not 'wee', but not of the 'lets go gather all the mulitverse inside and see what happens next'. :P Think of it as an oversized shuttle that used to haul the imperial family about, and now is hauling the two of them around. Yes, living quarters and all that, galley etc, all sumptuously decorated thanks to a long-absent-from-the-scene vonKarma.

Will try to answer any and all questions to y'all's satisfaction. To get on board, we'd have to be parked somewhere for one thing. Gotta answer Swith there for the rather excellent post that gave me the giggles (been a tad busy here at home, damn the luck) and we'll go from there.

The Loki-class is definitely in the superyacht scale. The DropShip terminology is untimely ripped from Battletech (perhaps to no one's great surprise, with the 1980s already having been invoked); in more modern Weber-esque parlance the original milspec configuration would be a PCL.

(EDIT: Swith, if I could updoot you for Pink Floyd references, I would. Consider yourself duly updooted.)

Was thinking of having him already on board. Newly found, perhaps at the last stop, and thus the group isn't familiar with each other yet? He would have spent his first few hours (or days) getting the galley situated.

I miss Battletech. Nobody out here plays anymore. FFG's X-Wing seems to have replaced it.

I'm extremely rusty with my Honorverse ships. A Pinnace?

I always have to create new groups wherever I go. Having an augmented Regiment of IS 'Mechs and a Cluster of Clan 'Mechs doesn't hurt.

I'm even rustier, probably. After a bit of Googling I see the broader term is LAC/Light Attack Craft (which fits in quite well with the Assault DropShip role in BTech). A Highlander-class seems to be about the right length. The original (military) Loki-class looked a like this (in 2002) with some rationalization (2014) over time. The vK-Special subtype is sleeker and has recessed weapons ports rather than the obvious turrets and whatnot. Doodles were never produced because Karma wasn't really much of an artist. Were I motivated to return to worldbuilding on this site, I'd probably start a fleet refit in favor of the Svadilfari-class now that I'm an actual engineer who does structures and am all too aware of loadpaths and the inefficiencies of unsupported cantilevers.

(Yes, I freely steal from myself across realms.)
