Riots and hatred against the still weakened United states led by Jonathon Arden grew and received more supporters for revolution in the west. The hatred exploded on April 12, 1865 when the Freed States of America declared independence against the United states and ended all relationships with the now severely weekend country. In 1880 wary of another coup the government reorganized the military and making it stronger in the process the mostly home trained family musket wielding men turned into a trained force of mostly riflemen with several units of artillery and cavalry. I thought the rule of thumb was that the military could only make up 2% of the total population at most because anything larger would be detrimental to the economy, though I haven't crunched the numbers and you may have done 2% for each island in your nation. Oh also Haiti is owned by France.

How does a country 6 times smaller than me have a military nearly as large as my own? Your military population is nearly 5.5% of your population. That really running into territory that leads into economic instability because you've got so much of your resources going into you military to maintain that relatively large military compared to population.

Usually the rule of thumb is 1% for volunteer forces and 2% for heavy conscription based militaries.

Yeah that's what I meant. The Legionary Republic has a lot of conscription so my 2% of the population makes sense but 5% is way to big, even if its an army with a state.

Thanks for letting me know. I will get rid of the Haiti claim.I did 5% of the total population for land and 2% of the total population for navy originally. Would you recommend doing 2% for each island, adding the total, and dividing them up into land and naval forces, or do you recommend doing 2% of the total population and dividing them into the land and naval forces?

Depends on how you want your military organized. If you want each island to have its own esprit de corp then you should do that but if you are having just one standard military then use the total population.
