Ok, so I'm not a judge and I don't have a vote. But I have been following the votes that have been cast. And I can say that I am extremely disappointed that so many judges leave so many spots open and don't vote for various categories. You volunteered to be a judge. Be a judge. Not only for those few categories you already knew, but for all of those nominated. There shouldn't be a blank vote on any of them unless the judge was also nominated.

Edit - And honestly, I can say that I am happy for whoever wins. Whether it's any that I'm associated with or not. A lot of effort went into these RPs this year and whoever wins will be worthy. I just want judges to be consistent and look up the nominees they don't know, and then make an educated vote, instead of just leaving it blank.

I don't think that's how that works.

The votes that are being cast right now are cast in regards to the Community Choice nominations that were made earlier, meaning that the P2TM Community decides who should get the award. The judges that voted for their respective nominations in each category cast their votes like everyone else as fellow members of the P2TM Community, and they are free to abstain if they do not wish to cast their vote for any nominee in a certain category. Just like everyone else.

If you're asking us to go scour P2TM for any good examples from each nominated player and/or RP so that we can fill in every single category on Community Choice, unfortunately many of us do not have a lot of free time or space in their real-life schedules to look for them, nor did we spend time observing each and every thread that comes up. Therefore, the nominations that we already know about are usually filled in, while the ones we don't know a lot about -- or the nominated players/RPs are all too good to make up our minds with -- are left blank. But some of us have made nominations for certain players/RPs even though we haven't played with those people or in those RPs, and I'm pretty sure we all have our own reasons for it.

And more importantly, judges can only judge nominations made in the "Best Of" portion, and the method thru which nominations are rated is based on a certain set of criteria beyond nominating someone because he/she deserved it. We cannot judge Community Choice categories the same way we do in "Best Of", since we're only a tiny fraction of the greater P2TM Community, and to repeat what others have said on the matter, because Community Choice is more like a popularity contest than something to objectively rate with points and fancy tables.

However, let's not think that the nominees in the categories left blank don't deserve to be voted as Best in [Category]. The fact that they are there for fellow RPers to make a choice with shows that they have done something for P2TM that would merit them with a nomination.

Voting is also to be fairly done. I would hope (and I mean this not to be contentious, but to raise the standard for fairness) that judges are looking at all the nominees. Because if a judge votes for only those he knows, he isn't really doing his job. I realize it takes time. Still, this was a voluntary position that the judges asked to be part of. They didn't have to volunteer to judge. Now that they are judges, I simply ask that they take extra time to read all the nominees, and then make their judgment based on this. They are judges for all the categories, and not just a few.

I am also a little confused as to the mechanics of this process. The "Best of the P2TM" nominees can be voted in by anyone, even someone who did not volunteer to be a judge? Thanks for clarifying this for me.

Judges have absolutely no part in the Community Choice portion of this contest. They are simply members of the community and casting their votes. However, the onus is on the person nominating each person or role play. The instructions clearly stated that the nominator was to give some sort of reason why a person or game was worthy of their nomination. Many didn't put anything. I'm not going to vote for a person just because I recognize their name. I'm going to read the support for them and make my decision based upon that (which is why my own vote form is marked as a WIP. I have to trawl the thread. Next year, let's link each name to the nomination form, please.)

In the next few days, I'll have the writing nominations portion sorted. The delay is due to my health. Judges will be able to go through the formal process of reading each nominated POST, SCENE, or COLLAB to critically assess the content and assign points. The tallies will determine the winner of each. This is the only section that requires official judges, and absolute transparency will be maintained.

THE COMMUNITY CHOICE PORTION NEEDS MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO VOTE, PLEASE. Even people that did not nominate anything are asked to give their vote. What we do ask is that people don't just vote for someone because they're popular. Dog piling from groups means mass votes for one person who may not actually deserve the win (and we all know it when it happens and snicker into our sleeves when that person brags into their signatures :p ) But players do vote for who they know.

An example is Favorite Role Player - Comedy Nominations: Lavan Tiri, Tiltjuice. I know them both and have seen them around NS a long while now. It was a tough call for me. I chose Tiltjuice because I also know him from TET and other games, and his shtick is pervasive. That doesn't mean Lavan doesn't deserve the award, too. But it means that Tilt just slightly outstrips him in the laughs department.

A follow-up to clarify. People should not flip a coin and vote if they aren't familiar with any of the persons up for nomination in a category. It's okay to leave that blank. That way, those that are familiar can sort it.

People can also leave a blank vote if they feel none of the nominated people in a category qualify.

Thank you for the clarification. I will try to get my vote up sometime, and will do my best to read through the nominees and their material. Thank you again, and I apologize if I came off antagonistic. No matter who wins, I think there are many here nominated who are deserving. Congratulations in the future to those who do win.

My Community Choice vote. I can honestly say that I spent time trying to track down posts for everyone nominated. Unless specifically mentioned, I looked at 2 RPs for each person nominated, and several posts of the RPs that were nominated. Thanks for allowing everyone in the Community a voice.

DO NOT SPOILER VOTE FORMS. Please do not vote for more than one person per category. No puppet voting.

PEOPLE

Favorite Role Player By Genre

Favorite Role Player - Action Nominations: Normendie, Ontorisa
MY VOTE: ONTORISA. This was difficult because I could not find any of Normendie's posts to read. At the same time, Ontorisa is a good writer. I read some posts from "Hubris of the Gods" and "The State of Sunshine," Ontorisa uses and crafts language well. From soldiers who speak in terms of "clicks" to the children of Greek deities who reflect devotion to their ancestors, Ontorisa is a well-crafted writer.

Favorite Role Player - Comedy Nominations: Lavan Tiri, Tiltjuice
MY VOTE: TILTJUICE. This one was hard, because the posts from both that I saw were not in comedy RPs, and were very serious nonetheless. Still, I think Tiltjuice gets the nod here. Read some posts from "Star Trek: The ShadowDancer" and "Personification Life". Tiltjuice can be serious, but can throw out a zinger every so often. From what I saw, he can lighten the mood at times.

Favorite Role Player - Crime Nominations: Cylarn
MY VOTE: CYLARN. Obvious with one choice. Still, I read posts from "Delta Green: Lover on the Ice" and "Noir Voyage". Puts a lot of effort into crafting a good crime and mystery tale.

Favorite Role Player - Fantasy Nominations: Armed Republic of Dutch Coolness, Everhall, Mincaldenteans
MY VOTE: MINCALDENTEANS. Some very good nominees here, and I read from at least 2 RPs from everyone. Mincaldenteans wins because of the way that characters are made three-dimensional, as living, breathing, embodied people with fears and weaknesses, as well as strength. Also, some good work on descriptions on the settings and physical backgrounds. I read posts from "Personification Life - Epic" and "What Lies Below".

Favorite Role Player - Horror/Thriller Nominations: Giovenith, Neo Orb, Primordial Luxa
MY VOTE: NEO ORB - Neo Orb crafts words well. Very descriptive, leaves enough to the imagination to be unsettling. Makes characters live and breathe, with memories, regrets, and even codes the posts with boxes for letters written by the characters, etc. Pays attention to little details. A little wordy, but still very descriptive. I read posts from "Sailor Moon: Apocalypse" and "Dragonball Universe".

Favorite Role Player - Life-Based Nominations: Northwest Slobovia
MY VOTE: NORTHWEST SLOBOVIA - Again, easy with only one nomination. I read posts from "Personification Life - Epic" (I didn't see any other RPs this nation was in). Seems to write well with interactions, as well as mundane things the people would normally have to do in their lives.

Favorite Role Player - Mystery Nominations: Charlia, Galdius
MY VOTE: GALDIUS. I read posts from "The Last of Us: Exodus" and "Delta Green: Night at the Opera". Galdius captures the suspense of a mystery well, with good timing and pacing.

Favorite Role Player - Nation RP Nominations: Highfort, Krugeristan, Prolieum
MY VOTE: PROLIEUM - I read posts from "A Shattered Republic" and "The War Cry of Uncle Sam". First, kudos to Prolieum for OP'ing "War Cry" for so many posts, even if a lot of them are one-liners. Prolieum is very descriptive, detailed in his writing, and speaks like an insider to military knowledge. A must for Nation RPs.

Favorite Role Player - Romance Nominations: Swith Witherward
MY VOTE: SWITH WITHERWARD - I read posts from "Star Trek: The Shadowdancer" and "Pilgrimage". Didn't see anything romantic here, but as I recall these weren't the RPs that Swith was nominated for this category in. Swith writes well. Makes characters personable, that you can relate to, whether in a humorous way, or in sympathy. I didn't get to read any romance posts, but I assume Swith writes characters who are personable in romance as well.

Favorite Role Player - School-based Nominations: Stormwrath, Syrixces
MY VOTE: SYRIXCES - My vote was based on the fact that I could find a lot more involvement by Syrixces this year in a school based RP than I could Stormwrath. The only one from Storm I found was back in April, "My Classmates Epicene Look" and that only went on for a few pages. Syrixces on the other hand has gone great guns with "Holy High" - even though I disagree with the subject matter, I still find it rewarding that a writer can keep an RP going for so long that you need multiple OOC threads.

Favorite Role Player - Science Fiction Nominations: Anowa, Mincaldenteans, Plzen, Spindle
MY VOTE: SPINDLE - I read posts from "Star Wars: RP" and "Fractured Reality: Desert Layer". I have been impressed with Spindle's writing since I began in the RPs almost a year ago. Spindle's writing is so descriptive, with good dialogue and characterization. Good elements of plot. Very impressed again, and hope to see more from this writer.

Favorite Role Player - War Nominations: Kyrania
MY VOTE: KYRANIA - Is this name spelled right? I couldn't find this nation at all on NS when I searched. Still, only one running, so they get the vote, whether or not they are a real country...

Favorite Role Player - Misc Genre Nominations: G-Tech
MY VOTE: G-TECH - I read posts from "110 Yr. RP" and "Woes of the Savior". Very detailed, historical writing in both cases but from very different time periods. Maybe not surprising, but he seems to like playing as Russia...

Favorite Worldbuilder Nominations: Landfish Colonies, New Grestin, Occupied Deutschland
MY VOTE: NEW GRESTIN. I read posts from "A World Ablaze" and "The Zone". Very impressive writer. Gripping. New Grestin includes character memories, references to the history of what was happening in the RP, good descriptions of people, objects and locations, and nice coding too. In both genres that I read (AH and Horror), New Grestin builds a realistic, true to the genre, world with all its assorted details and coherency.

Favorite OP/GM Nominations: Anowa, Beiarusia, Giovenith, New Grestin, Talchyon
MY VOTE: ABSTAIN - SInce I'm nominated.

Most Involved in P2TM Nominations: Anowa, New Grestin
MY VOTE: I'm voting ANOWA here. Both Anowa and New Grestin had the same number of nominations for them (3), so it came down to spreading the love and giving some to a nation I had not voted for. Plus, Anowa seems to be more involved in P2TM than New Grestin (who spends a lot of time making political and social commentary on other forums, to the detriment of posting in P2TM).

Funniest RP'er Nominations: Ameriganastan, Pando
MY VOTE: THE LAST ABODE OF PANDO - Pando cracks me up every post. He is new to writing in the P2TM this year, and has only posted in a few RPs, most notably "The Infinites: The Lamest Heroes". His humor is unconventional but hilarious. His two funny characters stand out - One is a set of Siamese super-powered twins joined at the middle leg. One twin can animate origami (but is basically limited to paper airplanes) and the other twin can literally do any superpower possible, with the extreme limitation that he can't be aware that he's doing it. Once he becomes aware, it stops. Plus, they picked up an alien spork that allows them to break the 4th wall and read and post on the OOC page. Another funny character is Florida Man, the minor crime lord of the RP. Florida Man has no real powers. But, the humor here is that Pando checks out newspapers where the headline reads something about a "Florida Man" who was involved in a crime, or doing something weird. And Pando's character is all of those headlines combined. Great stuff. Read The Infinites: The Lamest Heroes and see what I'm talking about.

Most Improved RP'er Nominations: Chedastan
MY VOTE: CHEDASTAN - I read a post from late Dec. 2016 and another from mid January 2016 (the "after" and "before") from "Personification Life: Epic". Honestly, they seemed very similar and I couldn't find much of a difference in writing from the two samples. But, he wins because he was the only nominee.

GAMES

Community Choice Role Plays: Genre RP

Favorite Role Play Game - Action Nominations: Infinite Justice: Origin
MY VOTE: INFINITE JUSTICE: ORIGIN - An impressive superhero RP that also combines sci-fi elements with an incoming alien first contact. Already up to 230 posts, and it began in mid December!

Favorite Role Play Game - Comedy Nominations: 2017: A World At Its Feet, RPG: The Call to Protagonism, The Infinites - the Lamest Heroes, The Minnesota Infinites
MY VOTE: THE INFINITES - THE LAMEST HEROES. After reading a good number of posts from all of the nominees, I had to go with mine. D-level superheroes who are trying to save the day is fun. Too much hilarity in almost every post, from a brilliant inventor hero whose crowning achievement is a high tech cannon that shoots fuzzy white kittens, to a flying hero who can fly (slowly) but carries no inertia or momentum when she does, to a hero who has the unique ability to cause falling anvils from the sky when he cracks a joke. Notable villains include a man who has a limited 4th wall awareness and is trying to prove that he was not destined to be a hero, to a Communist teddy bear who can summon any Soviet weapon but has practically no aim and goes flying off at the recoil, to the NPC villain whose only power is to make the heroes wear dresses and dance the can-can. How could you not laugh?

Favorite Role Play Game - Crime Nominations: JFPD
MY VOTE: JFPD - A very well written post with lots of great writers contributing. The police force here with cybernetics and other augmentations are doing their best. Posts include police officers, cyborgs, medical tech, forensics. Good writing all around.

Favorite Role Play Game - Fantasy Nominations: The Elder Scrolls, Legends of Eroris, The Second Age of Gods
MY VOTE: LEGENDS OF ERORIS. I couldn't find "The Second Age of Gods" so I wasn't able to read that one. But I did read the other two. With both Eroris and Elder Scrolls featuring standard fantasy elements, Eroris inches ahead by a nose due to the consistently good writing and dedication to the RP.

Favorite Role Play Game - Horror/Thriller Nominations: Delta Green, The Zone
MY VOTE: THE ZONE - Very impressive and long-lived RP. Still going.

Favorite Role Play Game - Life-Based Nominations: Personification Life
MY VOTE: PERSONIFICATION LIFE - Another very long lived RP in a slew of many short-lived failures.

Favorite Role Play Game - Mystery Nominations: Pilgrimage, Sleepy Hollow, We Were Never Heroes
MY VOTE: SLEEPY HOLLOW - Solving a murder mystery in a town with the serious weird things like this is not an easy task. Very suspenseful. Almost every post I read kept the plot moving. Earns my vote.

Favorite Role Play Game - Nation RP Nominations: A World Ablaze, War Cry of Uncle Sam, Woes of the Savior
MY VOTE: WOES OF THE SAVIOR - Very impressive, with all the extras players brought in, such as maps, flags, secret missives, marriage proposals, and all at a time when many people are not familiar with. Well done. Wish it went longer.

Favorite Role Play Game - Romance Nominations: none
MY VOTE: Easy vote. :lol2:

Favorite Role Play Game - School-based Nominations: The Compound, Hackerman Academy, Holy High, In Memorial of the Fallen, Nationstates' (Non-Japanese) High School
MY VOTE: THE COMPOUND - School setting combined with super-heroes in prison. This RP exploded this year, and often had so many posts players were having difficulty keeping up. Some good fight scenes, some other typical school-activity, and some punishment rooms no school should ever have. Made for a great RP.

Favorite Role Play Game - Science Fiction Nominations: Out of Silent Planets, Star Trek: Shadowdancer, XCOM: United Front
MY VOTE: XCOM: UNITED FRONT - Just edges "Out of the Silent Planets". A very impressive militaristic RP set against hostile alien invasions. Started in August of 2016 and already up to 23 pages, and still being posted in.

Favorite Role Play Game - War Nominations: Ace Combat: Broken Line, Peacekeepers, Rainbow Six: Zulu Team, The Way Forward
MY VOTE: RAINBOW SIX: ZULU TEAM - This short lived RP was nonetheless full of action, descriptions of accurate weaponry, and the isolation and horrors of modern warfare. Special mention to "Peacekeepers" for the OUTSTANDING OOC page. Breathtaking and very intricately coded. I wish I could code like that.

Favorite Role Play Game - Misc Genre Nominations: Tombstone, Washington: The US Political RP, Return of Saturn, After the End
MY VOTE: AFTER THE END - The strange, future, survival land of America is disturbingly written - and a very intriguing series. With Walt Disney regarded as a prophet, and people in the American southwest messing with atomics, this messed-up future dystopia wins the award hands down.

Community Choice: Best Lore/Worldbuilding RP Nominations: The Infinites - the Ninth of Tenth Greatest Superhero Team, Legends of Eroris, The Zone
MY VOTE: LEGENDS OF ERORIS - A very complex, and tightly designed worldbuilding RP in a fantasy realm. Seems to be well-loved by its players.

Community Choice: Best RP Megathread Series: Personification Life
MY VOTE: PERSONIFICATION LIFE - Fits the bill easily of a Megathread.

Community Choice: Most Creative or Original RP Idea Nominations: The Infinites - the Ninth of Tenth Greatest Superhero Team, Jabberwocky, Munus, Sailor Moon: Apocalypse, Suvarnabhumi, Woes of the Savior, The Zone
MY VOTE: THE ZONE. Tough choice. Just slightly edges out "Woes of the Saviour" and"The Infinites". The disturbing reality of the Exclusion Zone, with its concentric circles of weirdness and danger, yet with the incentive of going in to get interdimensional artifacts and treasures, plus the awesome OOC page, brings this RP the vote.

Community Choice: Most Awesome OOC Thread Nominations: JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: the Role Play, In Memorial of the Fallen
MY VOTE: JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE. You don't have to like the idea or the RP to appreciate the art, time spent coding, and overall zany effect of this page. For the vote.

This should win because it is the dumbest serious fight ever. Possibly. I don't know.

We were waiting on Pando's clarification. Now we can compile everything and present it to the judges. Shouldn't take long to sort, and then we'll announce winners of both portions at the same time.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

No problem.

Some categories are uncontested. The others (categories with more than one nomination) are now online for judging. A telegram has been sent to our judges to let them know.

Edit: 7 Feb. We are still waiting on our judges to complete their scoring. We may need to ask for backup judges to come forward.

We need one or two more judges to complete their scoring. I've sent a TG to those judges (Alleniana, Altito Asmoro, Cylarn, Finland SSR, G-Tech Corporation, Galnius, Sanabel, The New World Oceania) to let them know we're drawing to a close. I'd like have all results published by this Sunday.
