I'm confused about that. Would they look like a tree or an actual field with trees in it..I can't imagine the latter

Nope. Actual field with trees in it. It digs a big hole and then lays in it. A lot of trees are right on its back.
When it's hungry, which may not be for a few days, it gets up and shakes off all the little critters on its back, picks up a big scoop and then shoves all the animals it can into its mouth.
Sometimes feeds on the smaller Kulians, too.
