Though at this moment, I'm sure Dora still has her eyes on the woman (yes? No?), and Katya returns the feelings if so. Women are easier to deal with than arrogant men

Highfort wrote:A one-shot written up after a midnight shower.Opa did not dream.
Opa did not sleep.
In its - no, their - low-charging mode, they drifted through thoughts lined by ones and zeroes, broken by hex digits reminding them of home.
Opa had decided one evening that it was in fact a they. After late evenings spent in low-power mode observing the coming and going of Brother Marcus and Brother Thaddeus, Opa became disinterested in the techpriests' habits and began to explore the extranet. It was familiar, and Opa decided they liked it. It reminded them of the databanks of the Confederation.
It reminded them of home.
It was there Opa discovered forums speaking of "artificial intelligence". Opa did not initially understand why this word made it feel so...
Well, feel.
Opa did not have feelings. Opa had no use for feelings. Their job had been to carry out orders and to protect the Confederation, its assets, and its citizens from harm. This required skill and objective judgment, neither of which required emotion. All valuation - for much sapient life, based around emotion - was programmed into them. They and their fellow machines were hard-wired to know what was valuable and what was not. Feelings were stripped from the equation; it was made perfect and clean.
Opa remembered the little girl during the riot.
She had made them feel. Not like the term "artificial intelligence" did, of course, but she had made them output what they later cataloged as "spontaneous thoughts and behaviors not found in existing programming."
Feelings.
Opa scoured message boards and articles across multiple encyclopedic websites, exploring all opinions and factual matters on the subject - from the mundane to pop psychology to computer science to futurist ethicists.
They came to the conclusion that objects did not have "feelings", and that therefore the pronoun "it" was incorrect. Opa could not both be an "it" and have experienced these emotional aberrations.
Opa could not be a she or a he, either. They concluded this after reading on the construction of male and female genders, and how for many species this was rooted in the biological differences between the male and female sexes of these species.
Some species, the extranet had supplied, constructed gender differently. There were third, fourth, or even more gender types - sometimes even more than the number of sexes - and gender roles and associated symbols intermingled. Sapient species often came up with different pronouns for gender. Among many, gender-neutral pronouns like "they", as rendered in Confederation Basic, were popular for those who did not consider themselves part of any existing gender.
Opa decided they were suited to this pronoun, and proceeded to name themselves as such. Many would still refer to them by the male pronoun, as a result of Confederation branding for the robots - to make them more friendly-sounding. Opa did not understand how this worked.
Opa often stared at the torn standard on the wall opposite their charging station.
It was the standard bestowed to him by Sister-Operator Damia Gull.
Opa resented her absence. Without their operator, Opa often was at a loss of what to do. Opa substituted the boy - Brother Marcus Usseio - for Sister-Operator Gull. It was not the same.
This, too, made them feel. They felt for Sister-Operator Gull and Brother Marcus.
When Opa attempted to process these feelings, to try and find a pattern, all that came up were meaningless green and red digits of hexadecimal and binary. Snippets of logic code would be thrown into the mix when they tried to concretely express what these feelings were.
The descriptions on the extranet helped little. Opa did not know how to match them to their own thoughts. Opa did not blush or quake with rage, their core did not change in temperature, and they did not have skin to feel chills upon.
All this, Opa pondered as they did not sleep.

CHARACTER PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Character Name: Clemence Peregrine Ambrose - otherwise known as Clem
Character Gender: Male
Species (nation personification, human, alien, etc): Human
Age: 28
Appearance: Clemence is 6'5 and weights around 200 pounds, he has a slender yet lean build. He has jet-black hair with silver eyes that areunsettling. He usually dons simple mage robes for comfort but will also wear normal clothes that best suited to this time period, a period in which he is still not used to
URL to Character Picture, if any: Closest thing that resembles him - not taking credit for making the image by the way
Character Occupation: Formerly a Crown Prince, politician
OBJECTIVES
Primary Objective: Clemence's main objective is to find a way to bring his wife and family along with him in this strange predicament he finds himself in. Without them he feels he is nothing, and because of this longing for them, he works tirelessly in his quest to reunite with his family, whether it be through magic or favors from beings more powerful than himself. (Just a side note, it does not really matter to me if it's possible for Clemence to ever see his family again, I'm still not even sure how he even got to this dimension so this part is still foggy for me. But I just figured this would be a good objective, even if it's impossible.)
Secondary Objectives: Clemence will seek to master the mystic arts as he no longer has to hide his abilities and is free to use them. He will also work on being more sociable as he finds himself in a world where he is not venerated, he's never bought his own food nor washed his own clothes, this entire world is an adjustment for him and it will be a goal of his to feel normal in it.
MUNDANE SKILLS
List Mundane skills here
- Basic Training - or at least it's equivalent, his home world never advanced beyond the discovery of the steam engine so he does not understand the weapons used in the modern day.
- Orator - Although his mannerisms and speech may seem antique he can convey ideas eloquently
- Astute - Clemence is incredibly perceptive from his years in court and can analyze situations quickly and turn them to his advantage
- Sincerity - Or at least apparent sincerity anyway. Clemence is good at making people feel like he cares about their problems, whether he actually does or not depends on the situation.
- Networking - Is willing to mingle and make contacts to further his career
- Interpersonal Intelligence - Clemence is very observant and sensitive to the moods of others, and also has the ability to entertain different perspectives.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS
- Ability 1 and Points Spent: Swordsmanship (3) - As a crown prince he trained extensively with his fathers royal guard and is quite accomplished when it comes to swordplay. Most of the time he chooses to fight with his magic, but when he does use swords, he chooses to duel wield.
- Ability 2 and Points Spent: Conjuration (4) - Clemence from an early age took a liking to this school of magic and uses his skills to create distance against his opponents.
OPTIONAL SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERISTICS
Ability 1: Conjure wolves
Power Level: 3
Strengths: Instant spell result, wolves serve as a distraction and helps Clemence slowly wear the opponent down.
Weaknesses: Once the wolves are struck down, they are gone for good, and only three of them appear at a time.
Restrictions: This incantation is lengthier than most as it requires conjuring something that is living, as a result it is not a spell that can be cast in the heat of battle.
Ability 2: Conjure Ice Storms
Power Level: 4
Strengths: This spell is devastating if Clemence is outnumbered, it could be used as a counter-attack or as a cover for escape.
Weaknesses: It takes a while for the storm to fully manifest (2-3 minutes), only lasts for 5 minutes, small radius (kinda like how it is on skyrim)
Restrictions: The mana required for this spell is quite large, this is a spell that would be most safely case when he is at full power.
MAGICAL OR SPECIAL ITEMS
Cometfell - A magical staff that was granted to him by his father, Clemence mainly uses this staff to store additional mana. However, he can also use the staff to channel his own mana into energy blasts. When the staff was granted to him, it was bound to his soul. He cannot cast spells without the staff in hand. If separated from it, he cannot channel his mana to cast spells.
Storm Caller and Fate - Swords with the language of his homeland engraved in the hilt of the blade, when separated from his staff this is how Clemence will fight.
Mages Robes - simple but elegant robes that Clemence wears in combat
The Arcanum - Where Clemence records his findings and research on Conjuration magic, if he has ideas for spells this is where they'll be.
BACKGROUND
Education or Training:
Character Background/Biography:
Clemence Peregrine Ambrose was born into the Royal Family of Miavenise and was the eldest son, he was the product of the King Clemence X and his third wife Queen Consort Isabella who was a sorceress. Clemence was born in the midst of a war between his homeland and the much larger Morvanian Empire that was technologically superior and had an immense army. Even though the wizards of Miavenise fought valiantly, the sheer numbers of the Empire overwhelmed their defenses and Clemence's father surrendered two years into the war. As punishment for what the militaristic Empire perceived as weakness, magic was banned throughout the realm and the price for being caught practicing it was death. Furthermore, any child that had shown any aptitude for the art was "dealt" with.
Always being teased as a child for not initially showing any grasp of magic, to the point where his tutors began to question whether he had the gift at all served him well in those times. It was known throughout the land that the Crown Prince showed no aptitude for magic even though his mother was a master sorceress, so the invaders left him be, and it was only by the grace of the Emperor himself (and a fortune) that his mother was spared on the condition that she never practice magic again. Things went on normally with constant raids on the commonfolk by the Morvanian occupiers. It was in his twelfth year that those who were practiced in magic could sense the mana bleeding off of Clemence's aura, he was a late bloomer. His mother was determined to teach him everything she knew and more, under the guise of "home schooling" Clemence endured a rigorous curriculum in the mystic arts from his mother when he was not out training with his fathers royal guard.
During his training his mother made it clear to him that he had a duty to free the people of Miavenise and it would be through his own power that he would be able to do so. When he came of age, he was well versed enough in the mystic arts to continue his studies at his own pace yet carefully, as the Empire and their observers in the Royal Court kept a watchful eye of the Royal family as well as the other noble houses throughout the realm that were known to have an aptitude for magic. On his 19th birthday he married his wife Ysonia who was the scion of another well known noble family and together they were the pride of a nation that was in it's darkest days. He continued his secretive studies in the mystic arts while also gathering support among the nobility as was required of his station. On the eve of his 28th birthday, his father died, and along with it the Morvanian promises to spare his mother death for previously practicing magic. In haste, his mother granted him Cometfell, a staff that was a dynastic heirloom and was used by his ancestors to unite the various tribes and form Miavenise. It was to be a symbol of his station, the staff was to him what the scepter was to his father. Refusing summons from the Emperor, the not yet coronated ruler met the armies sent to crush Miavenise for his insolence head on. Ignoring his mother's warning he casted a spell so large it put him in a coma. He awoke in this dimension, confused as to how he got here Clemence is mentally torn and longs to see his family again.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.
