Apologies to all for my absence this weekend. Shitty weekend was shitty and real life had me by the balls.

@Swith. Thank you for covering for Rache.

@ Gio. I'll have a reply for Klaus up tomorrow evening. Still tackling a host of things at the moment.

@Saldinado. Please reapply when you're less busy with other RP. I've dropped your inactive character from the roster. Slo, if his character is involved in your story, let's say he's not there at all. Sal can try again later.

@Carly. Bad internet connections suck. We can park Kale if it makes it easier on you. Keep in touch in the OOC. Swith lives vicariously through other people's vacations. :lol2:

@Torsi. Do you want to halt your story or continue? We can halt and have CoOPs retrieve characters. This isn't a problem. Real Life must come first. As a GM, I understand how that affects the ability to run a tight game. No harm, no foul, gurl. We got your back.

@Fraire. Good post!

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

Nothing RL is affecting my stories; I have the time and everything. I just...can't handle it. I'm feeling frustrated. Thanks, though.

If I halt it, then it's just another bad failed attempt to do something fun. I can't find the motivation to continue, though. I feel lost.

Raiders will still be running then, I expect. I can cancel Martian Queen if I need to, but I'll TG the staff if that comes up.

OK. He's only in the city visit. I'll just mention that he's fast asleep in the back seat of the rig's cab, so there's no continuity loss.

A lack of want. Nothing about it is scary. I just lost motivation, and can't find anything redeeming enough to make me want to continue. I mean, it's no fun for me from a character standpoint, and I bore myself by already knowing what will happen when this or that is done. I STILL feel annoyed and just disheartened that this was the story I was most excited for, and yet I only got two people involved. I'm annoyed that I planned a story to be very fast and over with in a week or two, yet it's been over a month. I'm annoyed that I find Slo's story so much better and popular, and it being the kind of thing I always wait for, yet never get to do.

I feel like I haven't really done a damn thing in PL in years. I mean, either two things happen

A - I wait for something neat like a city trip to happen, but characters do this or that, I get inpatient after a week or two, and decide to find my own adventure, only for the thing I originally hoped for to start right after, or...

B - I get caught up with one scene and can't make it to the other scene I need to get into shenanigans.

I just feel like I miss so many chances to actually play with everyone else or actually contribute to the world. It pisses me off, and then I get mad at myself for thinking bad, and it just goes on and on.

I wanted to do my story to prove that I could actually run something without it stalling to death. I was just mad over the carnival and previous attempts. I wanted to have fun. I can't muster it up anymore. I'm just dragging my characters and NPC's along. I had dialogue, character traits, plot points, scenes, everything, and it all fell flat. It's not good enough. I just can't.

"The grass is always greener" comes to mind. Slo's story is good but SJ is holding equal footing. Players seem engaged. Don't be so hard on yourself; You're doing well so far.

The shitty part about GMing is that we can't play as players. All our energies are poured into the story. It leaves little room for character growth (something Swith has complained about for three years) because our characters can never be the protagonist. The PCs in our story are always the heroes. Gets dull after a while. It's very draining.

Losing motivation is a common experience for GMs. Doesn't matter how long you've been at it. I lost motivation with the Fiends. Also with the Varg story because it was dragging on. At times, I attempted to infuse energy into the mix (the elevator drop for example) only to have characters sit on their asses in the dining room. Gets vexing after a while. GMing is demotivational at times.

PL is infamous for dialogging. Worse than monologging, dialogging sucks up all the posting time. Players have to finish their conversations. It drags on and on. In the fall we hope to remedy this by throwing some characters into intensive situations. They won't have time to talk. They'll be too busy crafting posts that keep the characters alive.

CER's BASTARDIZED LAWS of GM'ING
  • If anything can go wrong, it will
    Corollary: It can
    Corollary: It should
MacGillicuddy's Corollary: At the most inopportune time
Extension: it will be all your fault, and everyone will know it.

  • If anything just cannot go wrong, players will cause it to go wrong anyway.

  • If you perceive that there are four possible ways in which something can go wrong, and circumvent these, then a fifth way, unprepared for, will promptly develop
Corollary: It will be impossible to fix the fifth fault, without breaking the fix on one or more of the others

  • If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something.

  • Players always find the hidden flaw
Corollary: The hidden flaw never stays hidden for long.

  • It is impossible to make any story foolproof because fools are so ingenious
Corollary: The more you plan, the farther players will go from your intended story.

  • Everything takes longer than it takes.

  • Whenever you set out to do something, something else must be done first
Corollary: Players will sit on their asses and talk about relationships unless you pluck their characters up and manually insert them into the story intro.

  • You cannot successfully determine beforehand which side of the bread to butter
Corollary: You cannot successfully determine beforehand what players will do.

  • When in doubt, mumble. When in trouble, delegate.

  • A Smith & Wesson beats four aces
Corollary: A solid CoOP helping your story will trump anything the players throw at you while you're busy elsewhere.

  • The best-laid plans of OP and CoOP go oft awry.

:p

I'm going to wait for more people to post for the dining room. I'll drop a reply in after that.

Depending on what sort of action y'all are looking for, playing with the teleporter stuff could result in a fortuitous accident which teleports Marcus and Torsi to where Ascalon tour is. These things just happen, y'know? *nods*
