Hangar Bay, Ordos Marsa
" The mothership has been invaded by two transports. All belligerents are armed with small arms." The computer had made noises as four transports were counted of the combined arms. The captain had notified the situation but knew the One Spark was with them. He pushed some buttons and the computer gave beeping sounds and spoke," closing all hangar blast doors and ventilation systems. Current inward doors are locked for the blast of space pressure." Once the transports were in and the cameras saw the enemy fighters in the hangar, then the hangar doors closed and increase pressure in the section with the artificial gravity being the only thing that was maintained. Then with a grin in his face he said," computer, flood the rats." The computer blinked and said," opening hangar blast doors, warning. Personnel inside the hangars will be forcibly injected in the vacuum. Continue?" The captain nodded and the computer reopen the hangar blast doors and let out the pressure in the system to allow the vacuum where the combined enemies where.

Space outside the Ordos Marsa

None of the Excelsior soldiers expected to have been thrown back out into space. It was quite disconcerting. It took quite a while for the transports to retrieve all the crew, but with one extra transport, the work was done faster than expected. After ensuring the safety of the Excelsior's crew, the transports went about helping the crew of Providence.

"Alright, we'll prepare to board the Ordos Marsa again. This time, all units engage magnetic boots." Lietenant Hendrikson ordered.

"Providence, if possible, we request the use of tools. We'll send one of our transports back to retrieve them. We'll need them if the Ordos Marsa is locking doors left and right like they did in the Hangar"

"Alright Withers, when you take us in, do it carefully, and respond quickly. They might try something to destroy us before we can land."

Ordos Marsa

While the initial attack was unsuccessful. The bulwarks of the hangars were closed and the ship was ready for the next attack. The mothership was prepared to moved and the transports were in their space and the transports were preparing to meet them with breaching bombs. The best thing the ship to do was to regroup. The ship started to move with full speed to have some distance between them and the enemy ships and give it a second go as they made sure the small craft couldn't make the distance again. The side thrusters from the direction of the transports started to burn in the face of the enemy transports as they try to get some distance between the other ships and started sending a SOS to the rest of the fleet.

(-0.5 fuel to burn side thrusters and distance the ship and the crafts while burning or atleast attempting to burn, the transports near them).
- 1 energy for Omni-directional SOS.

"Ordos Marsa is firing engines!" Sergeant Withers called out.

"Evasive Maneuvers, avoid those thrusters!"

Meanwhile, on the Excelsior Bridge

"Ordos Marsa is pulling away faster than the transport can match, Commander!"

"Tell the Transports to return to the Hangar. They don't have enough fuel to outrun us and they can't stray far from the Hyperdrive anyways. We'll keep pace with them from Excelsior and board when they eventually stop." Wade said. This was the life: Just like the good ole days when he was in the military. Exciting.

"Also, produce some munitions while we're waiting for this scenario to play out"

Elizabeth Silverstein was not pleased. The mission was failing, resources were low, and some of the other motherships were obviously not happy. Just another example of how co-operative research was the best solution. Nevertheless, she needed to do her part, which involved contacting Camelot.

Ordos Marsa

The side thrusters stop as the ship and the Excelsior had followed them. The commander had started to open the comms to the ship of the Excelsior and started to speak,

Well, it seems you are willing to have a fight for some reason. But here is the thing, can you really win the fight? I think we both know the answer is up in the void since I had held off your first attempt, even when you did employ the zealots. However, what is your angle in this fight? Is for the good of the fleet or the good for you? Whatever the reasons, the olive branch is extended to you and a deal of trade between us is so. I need resources and tech and the fleet needs food and such. We are among the two that can produce an ample amount of food and soma and are willing to do it for the good of the fleet. Clearly that is better than your " zealot" allies? What do you say?

"I'm telling you Commander, we need to abandon the fight!" Silverstein pleaded.

"If we abandon the fight, we look like cowards and weaklings! You don't want us to look weak, do you?" Wade asked. He was not happy, having a subordinate talk to him this way.

"There's no way we can pull this attack off without a net loss of resources. And that's even if we assume the Silence, Kharbarinth, and New Paradise remain neutral and out of the fight. Can you imagine if they tried to board Excelsior?" Silverstein argued.

"Our allies will defend us." Wade rebutted.

"With what? Providence has no ammunition for their fighters, and Camelot has only one torpedo! What are they going to do with that?"

"If we capture Ordos Marsa, we'll have plenty of resources! We'll have Rare Elements, provisions, and..."

"...no fuel? Seriously, we've already spent most of it with the transports. Two whole fuel units units on a fruitless endeavor! If it weren't for our agreement with Camelot to enrich their fuel, we'd have no fuel to travel in the next sector!"

"How do you expect us to survive as it is? Huh? What's your glorious plan to save Excelsior?"

"Ordos Marsa has offered the olive branch. If we accept, I'm sure we can work out a beneficial agreement. It's our only hope..." the Chief Tech sighed, things were looking bleak, and they'd be even worse if Wade continued to press the attack.

"...Tell Providence we're calling off the attack. Go Silverstein, do whatever diplomacy stuff you do in the Sensor Array room." Wade looked away, defeated.

 Dear Ordos Marisa
In retrospect, our attempt to forcefully capture and loot your ship was a very bad idea, and has resulted in a net loss for the fleet and all ships involved.

In an effort to repair relations, we are sending all our technology except for our MagFluid Shielding in files attached to this transmission. We seek mutually beneficial trade with you. We extend the same offer we gave to Camelot to you: For each Rare Element you give us, we will enrich it free of charge and return 7 Fuel units to you.

Hoping for a better future.

The men aboard the Silence watched, in utter disgust and disappointment, the running battle between the Ordos Marsa and her attackers. It would seem, to them, a senseless and causeless attack, much akin to the same Transgression that had made them Exiles so long ago. With a few strokes, the captain logged the battle for future study. This offense would not stand.

Ledger:
Day 9:
Repair damage to Sensors(1/6 Crew, 1/2 Space Tools)
Repair damage to Enrichment Chamber(1/6 Crew, 1/2 Space Tools)
3 DMG to Hanger(6 E, 2 HP left)

U.E.S. Non Requiem

The days were beginning to blur together now, and the remaining crew had not even bothered to write the date down anymore. The constant whir and droning of the machines on board provided a melancholy soundtrack to what was, seemingly, an endless journey across the stars. Aboard the vessel, in the bridge, the captain stared ahead at the immense blackness beyond the windows. The bridge was entirely dark, save for the white glow of the monitors around.

"Current status on the crew?" The captain glared down at his screen. The AI hummed softly.

NO PROBLEMS DETECTED, SIR. ALL REMAINING CREW MEMBERS SEEM TO BE IN HEALTHY CONDITION.

The captain and his co-pilot sigh in relief. It had been an arduous past few weeks. On one of the monitors, numerous cryo chambers lay empty where sleeping crew members should have been. In the weeks before the sudden catastrophe, the Non Requiem had apparently been hit by a projectile, probably a meteoroid, which had damaged something on the left side of the ship. Repair bots had been sent out to deal with the problem. Alas they were too late, for cryo fluids had already leaked out into space. In result, all of the cryogenic pods in the left hangars of the ship were without fresh fluid, causing the sleeping crew to die within hours. The remaining crew themselves had gathered in the Garbage Bay to watch their fellow crew ejected into the endless void of space. Without the full crew on board, the maintenance bots were put into overtime to make up for the loss of able workers.

To make matters worse, Non Requiem had run straight into an Ion Storm of mindblowingly huge proportions, frequently messing up communications and electricity on board. And with food supplies running low, the crew members were forced to ration heavily.

The co-pilot sighed. "How long until the next Asteroid Station? I hate sitting in this room all day". She sat up, her suit glimmering in the monitor's light.
The captain looks at his screen. There was an abandoned station about 100 miles away, but nothing more. In the corner of the bridge room, an AI sits in a ComfiChair, holding a globe that was probably outdated. "Is this what Earth is like?", it asks in naivety, spinning around in the chair. "When will you all take me to see Earth?"

Suddenly, the lights in the bridge flash an ominous red.
ATTENTION CREW: FOREIGN VESSEL DETECTED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE SHIP. CAUTION IS ADVISED. REPEAT, CAUTION IS ADVISED.

The crew on the bridge sit up, alarmed. "Shit, what the hell is this?" The captain gets up, checking the rear cameras. A foreign ship was approaching the Non Requiem. He goes to turn on the Defense Drones, when suddenly there is a THUD.
ATTENTION: NON REQUIEM IS BEING BOARDED BY THE FOREIGN VESSEL. PREPARE FOR CONTACT BY POSSIBLE LOCAL AUTHORITIES.

The bridge is dead silent. The captain and co-pilot look at each other in dread. The other crew members remain silent, and the AI simply looks on in calm interest. "Shit, what the hell is this?!" The captain approaches the telecommunicator. He manages to send a message to the foreign vessel.

Code: Select all

However boarding without prior warning will make even the most stoic of crew members paranoid. Remember we have the right to open fire on your vessel and your crew if we perceive you to be a viable threat. Do not leave the hangar, and do not enter the ship.

Do you understand? Respond.

We will be investigating the ship and will try and report back any information but we might not come back from this. May whatever is out there help us. New Paradise out.

"This is the captain of the U.E.S. Non Requiem. Remain calm and do not make sudden movements. You probably are responding to our distress signal we sent out yesterday. However boarding without prior warning will make even the most stoic of crew members paranoid. Remember we have the right to open fire on your vessel and your crew if we perceive you to be a viable threat. Do not leave the hangar, and do not enter the ship.

Do you understand? Respond.

Just as the crew members boarded the transport and ready to go before the next Ion blast a message came the sensors started beeping. A few of the crew went to look at the sensors and in shock it was revealed people were still alive on the ship! Many of the crew were actually relieved to see that at least some of the crew was at least. The captain then began a message.

It is a pleasure to see you were still alive. We just wished to investigate the ship and if the crew was already dead then we would have looted and scuttled the ship to be honest. Do you need evacuation? We can currently carry another 100 or 200 men if we have our crew get out. Please respond if you need evacuation. But be quick we can only go between Ion blasts in this storm and that's dangerous. Plus the Hyperdrive goes every 3 days. New Paradise out.

The crew was slightly surprised, and the captain sighed in relief. At least they weren't a threat. He ordered the AI to wire them a message.

Thank you for responding. We actually seem to be in quite a pinch. Our food levels are running low, and the crew here is essentially half starving. If you could provide us with ration supplies to last us until we leave the storm, that'd be great. Or even better, could your vessel lead ours out of this storm and towards the nearest Asteroid Station? If you don't comply, we'll blast you and your kin to smithereens (What?! Don't say that! No we won't, take that back! Yes! NOW!).

Okay I lied, we won't hurt you all. But we'll probably die without your help. Also we do not wish to abandon ship. Could you provide food and supplies, and lead us out of this storm? In return, you can gain access to some of our resources, and a share of our fuel when we hit the next space station. You may board the ship if you please.

Over and out.

The captain glared at Bright Eyes, who just shrugged sheepishly.
"That's the last time I let you send out a message...", the captain grumbled.

They waited patiently for a response from the New Paradise, hoping desperately for their help.

New Paradise, Rescue... sorta

Just as the crew went in joy the day ticked over to day 9 and a message came from the U.E.S. Non Requiem. However a pained looked came across the captain's face as they asked for fuel and provisions. Fuel wasn't bad as they could make more easily but they needed provisions for a greenhouse. And these people seemed oblivious to the current situation talking about a space station. None the less however their crew and himself weren't heartless and would provide the materials. So with a quick message to the other ship and then to the transport they would be better.

Affirmative. While we can give you fuel easily provisions are running low sense someone at Earth forgot to do the paperwork for one. If you have 1 unit of HE and 2 units of LE we'll be able to make one. Earth however is... dead to the best of our knowledge if you didn't know. No space stations are left and we're somewhere. This ship and a few others are so far the last of humanity. We travel away from the thing that destroyed Earth by a Progenitor artifact called the Hyper Drive. It leaves every 3 days at the end of the day so please travel alongside us so you don't get left behind. I'll contact the other ships about you. New Paradise out.

We have encountered another ship in need of repairs. It's a vessel called the U.E.S. Requiem. We'll be escorting it and it's crew back to the Hyper Drive. We're however running low on food because of the provisions given to the U.E.S. Requiem and will soon need an ability to produce food or someone to help us with it. New Paradise out.

Bridge, Kharbarinth
Jump Gate, Storm Sector

Stoic nodded as the waves of transmissions came through. "Ah good, she survived. Pity about that dustup with the other motherships earlier, but these are the way things are apparently. Desperate men will do desperate things indeed." At his side Garasov grunted in agreement. "We could cut defend the ship, if push came to shove, from boarding. I don't fancy our chances against a torpedo bracket though, not in the least." Both men looked at the viewscreen as the Paradise and the newcomer ground into vision, engines at a tolerable burn. Now the entire fleet was assembled again, and sensors showed signs that indicated the Hyperdrive was charging. Hopefully the next region was richer in resource terms, or most of the fleet would be dead in the water before long.

Outside, via telepresence and robo-arms, the science crew began the task of turning their new laboratory to understand the red matter that had traveled in the transport since their first jump. It was outside the hull by about a kilometer, and energy spun up in the dataprocessors, near-sentient AIs aiding the analysis process. Hopefully from this doorway would come many great things.

Sensor Array Control Room, Excelsior

Things were nice and slow again, after yesterday's ordeal. Excelsior was recovering from the frantic, failed assault on the Ordos Marsa. Now happier reports came in that Non Requiem, another U.E.S. vessel, had apparently been recovered. Scans revealed it to be a Noah-class Mothership, but cheers of joy turned to disappointment when it was discovered that rather than carrying huge stocks of Fuel and Provisions, Non Requiem was short on both.

Elizabeth Silverstein held onto hope that they still had tools. "Open communications with the Non Requiem. We need tools."

RE: Supplies
Greetings Mothership Non Requiem, and Welcome to the Fleet!
We have heard you are low on Fuel and Provisions, something we are also short of, unfortunately. But we believe you may still possess items among your cargo lists that we would gladly trade for. As such, Excelsior requests a complete list of your stocks, including Fuel, Provisions, Tools, Scientific Equipment, Soma, Arms, Munitions, and raw materials. As a token of our good will, we have included  with this message some designs for retrofitting your scanners for Deep-space use.

Bridge, Kharbarinth
New Sector, Asteroid 2

Space twinged as the alien technology flung ship and man between the walls of the universe by untraveled halls, and before long the fleet emerged anew, ready for whatever faced them. Nearby the scanner reported an asteroid teeming with all manner of necessary resources, and Stoic smiled, bringing the men of the Bells forward to allow the grinding claws and refinery to go to work. Thankfully the fleet was in good stead now- this area was resource-rich indeed, and with a little bit of work all could be retrofitted and well-provisioned. Hopefully now the ugliness of the past could be put behind, and potential conflicts avoided. The stars here were strange, and soon they would be passing beyond the verges of the galaxy itself. The denizens of the Kharbarinth would need all the resources they could get to pass between this cluster of stars and the one beyond without succumbing to the attrition of deep space.

A transmission then filtered onto the command deck, something nobody ever wanted to hear. The crew of the Ordos were despairing of ever making it across the void; their captain had abandoned them, locking himself in his quarters. Some of the members had remembered the trading relationship and wished to carry on, hope still in their hearts. The men of the bells heard their pleas, and their hearts broke- transports were dispatched, and then a joyful union came as those who still held their heads high were added to the numbers of the men aboard the Kharbarinth.

Kharbarinth moves to Asteroid 2 for 3 Fuel
Refineries with 4 Crew harvest 2 LE, 3 RE, and 7 HE for 24 Energy

One Transport from the Ordos transfer over resources from scuttled ship segments, specifically 4 LE, 5 ST, 1 HE and 2 SA from scuttling the Engines, Reactor, Refinery, Sensors and one Crew Quarters.
4 new Crew sent to Cryo, to sleep off their trauma. Cryo laced with Soma.

Excelsior Bridge

"Alright people, we've made the jump! Get to work. Find the nearest source of heavier elements and start mining fissile material. Someone go down to hangar bay and tell the pilots to send over the 14 fuel units we owe to Camelot. Silverstein, what's the area look like?"

"Multiple objects in the area, Commander. Comet 1 is made up of Rare and Light Elements, mining is recommended there. We are launching Deep-Space Scans of some yellowish asteroids far from the Hyperdrive."

"Good work."

"More alarming is two artificial objects in this Sector. We don't believe they are lost Fleet ships."

"Well, I'll tell the construction engineers to get started on that Shield Generator."

Suddenly a technician from the Sensor array rushed into the Bridge. "Commander, Ordos Marsa's captain has locked himself in his quarters! The crew is abandoning ship! Kharbarinth is salvaging the ship and taking the crew aboard!"

"What!? Open communications with Kharbarinth. Tell them we want some of the salvage materials, and we are willing to provide Fuel enrichment and trade them Fission Catalyst designs to improve their reactors. And when Withers' transport delivers the good to Camelot send it to Ordos Marsa after it gets back here."

New Paradise

As the New Paradise arrived Sensor data flooded in. They arrived in about an hour and began mining enough material to build a greenhouse so the men and women of the ship can get high of drunk. It would actually was going pretty good to mine so much in one day and it was strangely satisfying. However soon enough the Camelot came up and swarms of mining drones came up and basically ate the asteroid. Many of the crew were like "WTF!" or "We had dibs!". The only relief was at the end of the day was that the Camelot gave a decent amount fuel as a sorry message and it seemed maybe one unit of HE was left.

Cryobays, Kharbarinth

Stoic gently eased the last of the Ordos refugees down into their null chambers, smiling at the spritely brunette as he did so. This flight from civilization into the unknown had made strange bedfellows indeed; but blood, even blood not of his blood, was still human. These men and women had endured much, even laughing as he informed them there was only enough room to sleep standing up in the crew quarters, so they would have to wait in the tubes for a few days while quarters were prepared for them. He checked the soma levels, ensuring the trace amounts of the seratonin booster were confirmed into the nutrisolution, then exited the silent halls of glass to return to his bridge.

As he entered, the comms officer waved him over. "Transmission from the Excelsior, text only." The commander read the communique, and nodded. "Compose a reply. Text as follows..."

His strong voice filled the bridge, bringing more hope with it than usual. His crew knew that, despite his very human failings, here was a captain that cold bear the rigors of the void. He would not abandon them, nor forsake them- not until they had found a new home for mankind, and an end to the pursuing terror.

Re: Trade
Confirmed trade terms- quite agreeable. We have a slight problem though- all transports are currently engaged evacuating refugees from the Ordos vessel, and time is of the essence, as their captain is potentially volatile. As such, we cannot spare a transport for such an exchange; my captain expresses willingness to allow one of your transports to board the Kharbarinth and make the trade, or suggests the matter be postponed until the immediate crisis has passed. He thanks your captain for his foresight and fair offer.
-Regards, Kharbarinth

Acknowledged, Kharbarinth. Orders have been sent out to the Transport to redirect to your mothership instead of Ordos Marsa. We will exchange the goods in your hangar.

After 24 hours of grueling precision work, the Silence's chief technician finally looked up from her work, signalling to a watching supervisor that the project was finally ready. A few moments and a quick telegram to the bridge later, and the new device was powered up, humming with energy. Outwardly, nothing changed. On the screens of the other motherships, however, the Silence would have mysteriously faded from view.

Standing on the bridge, the captain unconsciously released a sigh of relief. Hidden in isolation for so long, the past ten days had been rather disconcerting for the crew of the Silence, command and diplomatic personnel in particular. Now, at least, they could go about their business unimpeded.

Hangar, Kharbarinth
Asteroid Two, Shattered Planet Sector

Stoic nodded as the transport bearing the men of the Excelsior departed, precious minerals in tow. It was a fair trade, and that was to the best, but some of the crew were disquieted by doing business with those who would attack fellow men for mere baubles and metal. The Commander could understand the desperation, but he had worked carefully to keep spirits high aboard the Kharbarinth despite the singularly hazardous circumstances the men of the Bells found themselves in. He turned, nodding at the fuel tanks that the others had dropped off in exchange. A fair price, for the reactor designs that had been shared would be invaluable in the long run. As he made his way through the hissing hydraulics, the tall man of Karth gave a slight incline of his head to each of the guards on duty. A necessary innovation in these treacherous times, and a sad one. But that should not be dwelt on. There is much work to do, and he had to speak to the Ordos before the day was out. There was a task their expertise would be needed in.

Kharbarinth travels to Yellow Rocks in 24 hours for 2 Fuel
