Rolling with it, faction based? Character based? A bit of both?

How about a combination of the two? The crew of the Dancer are trying to start their own empire, but have to compete with the syndicate, pirate fleets, crime bosses and others?

Hate to burst ya bubble, Dancer ain't that way.

And I thought it was a separate idea?

I can tie it in; simply by having a character belonging to one, but over all Dancer isn't that.

Bit of both sounds 'bout right.

How about this,

Within the midst of the Dominion-Federation war, a captain attempts his/her ambitious plan to create the first multi-quadrant Criminal Empire using the Bajoran wormhole.

That's all I got for now.

Well, it's entirely possible that my character used to belong to the Syndicate, and they want her back? That could be a sub-plot thing o.o

oh definitely! I fully expect ppl with shady reputations instead of squeaky clean. That's like half of what makes the crew unique.

Points to the Seige of AR-558... or the Cardassian Wars that were heavily referenced, or the Maquis, or the renewed Klingon-Federation conflict after the dissolution of the Khitomer Accords... I wouldn't know how to prolong a ground conflict RP, so can't comment past pointing out events in Trek timeline.

dusts off this old thing:

Helpz needed! Had this new idea. Here goes:

Ah, you’re here! Excellent!

I suppose you’re a little worried about where you are, why you’re here and what this place is all about, all those little diddies that keep you up at night. I could give you the simplest answer but then your primitive sensibilities are already having a time absorbing your surroundings. But fear not! For I am Q! You’ve heard of me, I’m sure tales of my magnificence have been regaled throughout your quaint civilization.

No?

Well, no matter. Onto why you’re here: yes. You see, at the cusp of what could be considered the end of the universe, you were selected as one of the few individuals that could make a difference. How fortunate, mortal don’t usually get such an honor. And between you and me, you’re much better choices than those know-it-alls on that spider nest they call Deep Space 9.

Oh! You’re familiar with that floating junk of metal, it are you? Good! We’re off to a… well, its a start. Not good, considering the circumstances.

Speaking of which… You see, I, Q, could snap my fingers and make this all go away. This void you’re in, the prevention of the destruction of your universe, the atrocious war that began this perilous journey, but truth be told this is your chance to shine. Yes mon ami, you’re going to venture into events of the past in order to make a difference and recollect the moments in history that culminated into this… tete a tete.

And before you ask, no, I won’t be around until you’ve fully understood each moment.

I suppose we’ll start off with where I’ll be taking you. Each event will thrust you into a new setting in time. Sometimes a few days, a few weeks, months, maybe years. You’ll shoot some monsters and likely be shot in the process but should you die well… I’ll be here to put you back together again.

Just don’t ask me to assemble you perfectly, you’re laughably far from that as it is.

You humans call the events that led to this destruction the Great War. Starfleet and Klingon warriors braving the front lines against an implacable foe whose might is strengthened by their resolve and faith! You know who they are, they almost became a part of your vaunted Federation, those smug ridgenosed bastards and their dangling earrings. You know who I’m talking about don’t you? Why, the Bajorans of course!

Believe you me, they’re no sorry lot to feel empathy for. And before you gap your mouths open, realize that they’ve thrown their lot in with those meddlesome creatures they profess as gods. But, instead of those staunch and boring “Prophet”, they sided with the Pah-Wraiths! Of all the imaginable things! They could have at least picked me! A shrine or two in my name goes far with me as a snail to the nearest grass hole, but still.. I digress.

What’s more galling is that its Kai Weyoun who leads this merry band of bloodthirsty crusaders.

Before I run on into more tangents, I’ll give you a brief rundown if you haven’t surmised by now: the Alliance is crumbling. In fact, it was already crumbling at the height of the Dominion War. Now that that is over with they’ve began a war of attrition against the Bajoran Ascendancy (honestly you people and your self-aggrandizing names). The losses are deplorable, the desperation is in every corner of the alpha quadrant, and you my plucky would-be hero, are going to be at each front!

From the height and end of the Dominion War, to the rise of the nascent Bajoran Ascendancy, the first shot to ring across the alpha quadrant (again), to the events that led us here in this void.

Waste not want not mon ami, we have plenty to cover and not enough time.

So… this is my intro to a new Trek RP based off a Trek trilogy. You don’t need to know the books, as this RP is made to be RP’ed outside the books but follows several ‘events’ that were mentioned in there, as well as events not mentioned and can be entirely made up as we go. I’m working on the timeline of at least 8 major events (see spoiler below) that happened and a structure that I've yet outlined or revealed, but that doesn’t mean you creative bunch can’t come up with events in between.

RP structure will is such that players will be put into events, "episodes" if you will. Like this, players will have the chance to play completely new characters with every episode, canon characters, and have recurring characters when/if it fits the events. I'd post this on the appropriate thread for mentor help but did doesn't really need mentor help as it just needs creative minds to come up with events taken place. During the Dominion War, after the Dominion War, and the war of attrition against the Bajoran Ascendancy that leads to the destruction of the universe on the last day of 2399.

2375, Destruction of Deep Space Nine. Bajoran Wormhole closes. A new one emerges. Bajor is no longer a contested space, but Starfleet defends the system nonetheless as Bajor remains affiliated/aligned with the Federation.
2376, Bajor cuts itself off after Weyoun returns from his mission through the red wormhole with a race known as the Grigari. The Bajoran Ascendancy led by Kai Weyoun declares itself an interstellar power. They proactively seek members. Tensions mount with the Federation.
2376, the Dominion War ends with the destruction of the Cardassian Union and its hub colonies. Cardassians are a extinct race.
2379, actions against Federation and Klingon civilian and military vessels heighten with Bajoran expansion. War breaks out.
2382, Federation enters an alliance with the Borg.
2387, earth is destroyed, the Federation is crippled. The Klingon Empire is closed off - information beyond this is classified- (will explain later)
2390, the Romulan Star Empire aligns itself with the Ascendancy and declares war on the Alliance.
2399, the end of the universe is upon everyone. Starfleet mounts one last desperate attempt to breach Ascendancy lines.
