Ooh, I like that

Eight of Swords is traditionally depicted as a bound and blindfolded woman trapped between eight swords sticking out of the ground within an uncomfortable closeness to her, as if in a trap or punishment. The card represents one being in an uncomfortable, "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation, as if the woman tries to escape, she would have to maneuver through the swords blindfolded and likely receive several wounds along the way, but if she stays put, she's still trapped in the bad situation. If she truly wants to set herself free, she's just going to have to knuckle down and take the sword cuts, just like anyone who draws the card learns that if they ever want to escape the bad situation they're in, they are also going to have to make some uncomfortable changes along the way.
Likewise, Torii is definitely a girl who is living a sticky life, full of sadness, frustration, and confusion, what with her current struggles. However she at last partly puts herself there due to her own stubbornness, as Torii tends to be rather evasive or even hostile toward compromise, change, or seeing things from any perspective that deviates too far from her own (her yelling at Hans over the bullies, her insisted dislike of supernaturals despite being friends with the majority of the supernaturals, her argument with Bran, etc.). Torii wants to live a respectable life that she is in control of, however control and respect are not things that are earned by vehemently staying put in your comfort zone and insisting that the world change for you rather than you for it. She has not yet accepted that she must endure the sting of the swords if she ever wants to be free.

The cups court is a part of the minor arcana that is centered around the element of water and all it's symbolism; intuition, inner thought, beauty, luxury, emotion, and artistic feelings. The Queen of Cups is a beautiful, introspective woman who is very in tune with her own emotions and the emotions of those around her, a dreamy, creative, sensual woman with a deep understanding of herself. However the Queen also has a tendency to think with her emotions rather than her head, causing her to also be fickle and irrational at times. She often puts imagination before actual action or responsibility, and can be easily swayed by influences. She is kind and cares for others, but isn't always willing to take on much trouble for them.
Because Katya's past involved her being under the constant pressing thumb of her mother, of course what she focuses most on in her current life is doing what she feels good doing, fully indulging in the privilege of knowing herself and her desires, a privilege that she was denied for so long. Her elite background ties in with the luxurious, artistic theme of the cups court, and she does to some extent pick up on what others are thinking or feeling (like Torii). However, Katya doesn't always think things through while pursuing her desires, often neglecting or disregarding the needs and feelings of others (such as Dora, Yoshi, Torii, her baby) in the process. It is an understandable position, as her mother's strict nature never allowed Katya to learn about moderation of her own feelings and needs outside of them. Should this be tempered, she can become a sensitive, maternal, ladylike figure.

...The package made an unpleasant crackling sound when she squeezed it. Aubrey held it up for Johnathan to see. "This is speciest. You can't sell this here. It's an insult. This cartoon mutant otter is an insult!"

"You're objecting to Hobart? He's the official mascot."

"You're damn right I'm objecting!" She held the package with disdain, nauseated by the colorful glyphs and accent colors. It was the gaudiest thing she'd ever laid eyes on, far surpassing Japan in its efforts to promote themed food. "No, I'm not just objecting. I'm shutting this shop down. People will think we eat otters."

"It's just marketing for the masses!"

Aubrey rolled her eyes. "The otter is clearly stating that it's fresh. We don't eat weasels on Earth. We don't eat them anywhere."

It was Jonathan's turn to roll his eyes, and he did - all eight of them. "The otter - er, space weasel - is stating that the contents are fresh."

"Space weasel? What the fuck? Now he's from outer space?"

"Hobart is indeed a giant space weasel," the green alien pried the package from the Minister's hands. "See? Four arms, two legs, sharp pointed teeth. He's a giant, carnivorous mustelid from another planet."

"That's ridiculous! Who the hell would design something that ugly as a mascot? Who the hell would eat something with a mascot that damn ugly on the packaging? You'll offend xeno species with this marketing blunder."

"Giant space weasels would eat it, and they aren't offended."

Aubrey glared and snatched the bag back. The mutant otter mascot seemed to leer at her. "Oh, really? Is that so? What, you've gone out and polled them? Do you honestly expect me to believe giant space otters even exist?"

Jonathan sighed. Frustration set in. "Madam DeStephano, I believe you mean to say 'giant, six-legged space weasels. We did in fact poll them! They responded well to Hobart."

"There is no such thing as a giant, six-legged space weasel, for fuck's sake!"

Aubrey would have expanded on it had she not suddenly found herself engulfed in the shadow of something very big and somewhat musky.

"Excuse me, are you going to purchase that?" The creature leaned forward, head bowed as he observed the tiny human holding the very last bag of Hobart's Special Blend Bone Meal. A potent claw, metallic in design, snatched the bag from the Minister's clutches. Large ears framed a bald face that was eerily reminiscent of a honey badger's in structure. Nostrils flared to express his interest in completing the transaction.

"Three Melps, sixty," Jonathan held out a purchase pad for the customer to sign, and then slipped the product into a plastic bag. "Thank you, come again!"

The creature grunted in affirmation. The tiny brass bells on shop door chimed as he departed.

"That, dear Minister, is a Thade," Johnathan's face radiated smugness. "Some of them are cyborgs."

"Giant, six-legged space weasel... cyborgs?" The Minister watched the massive brute wend his way down the street, head and shoulders above the other pedestrians, two sets of arms swinging in stride with each powerful leg.

"Did I mention they were bipedal? They just love Hobart!" Jonathan squealed. "Best marketing gimmick ever!"
