SITREP
Image

CURRENT CONDITIONS:
  • Vaffelhelm Time: 7 PM
  • Weather: 50*F and rapidly falling
  • Forecast: We can expect things to get just as cold as the night prior

THE WORLD:
The government (and cultists) have nothing to report because nothing much is left.

GAME EVENTS:
  • Allspice. (ongoing, paused)
  • Thriller Revival/Book (ongoing - closed)
  • Aegis Story (ongoing - closed)
  • Natiya/Aleki trip (ongoing - closed)
  • Tribblequest (ongoing - closed)
  • Fallout: Bielefeld (currently running)

OP/CoOP STUFF:
We're going back to player-run stories after FOB. Some things on the table:
  • Kei story
  • GT's story
  • Monfrox trip
  • SCP story
  • Branriech revisited
  • Swithwardian trip

GMs: get your plans in order if you intend to run a long-term adventure. How many characters will you need? Old school PL had several stories running at once. Our thread should start to become very busy again. Not all players will want to send characters so poll now to find out who is interested in what you're doing.

You'll still need to run things by me, please, if you believe your story will last longer than a day or two. Our main problems in the past were players who wanted to run a story but failed to plan anything out (even so much as a rough sketch) or else began a story and then didn't bother to post for a day or three. Bear in mind that some players are fine with one post a day while others crave multiple posts.

Running your own stories doesn't mean we're going to have a chat location feel. Please try to make "scenes" count towards something other than two characters doing typical chat location thread bullshit.

A note on nation visits: Figure out exactly what you want players to experience. It should have a plot (adventure) or have an II feel where players function on a diplomatic level. It can have both if you're willing to take the extra time. I'm very open to players opening up a closed thread in P2TM just for a "nation" visit; it really doesn't belong in II (IMHO) because you're inviting PL characters from places other than other players' nations.

And a gentle reminder for those of you wanting to run a nation visit story:

Swith Witherward wrote:If we don't do it, I'd like to take one or two characters on a trip to my Witherward to test pilot the setting before doing my Diplomacy RP. I can still do it while we are doing Bran's trip, but the characters I have in mind will probably go on that.

For those curious people... I'm choosing players who can focus on helping me develop a setting... Similar to what I did when Swith was with Thriller on Gliese before everyone else arrived. I'll need characters who are curious, ask questions, refrain from using supernatural powers to get around, and don't get bored and start doing their own thing. Also, no tech stealing. The Witherward itself is one of the top tourist spots in this side of the galaxy but we would be going behind the scenes to see what the Nifid and Wreavers really look like. I'd also need the players to throw me curves so I can define Nifid reactions.

Swith's patiently waited over a year to do her Witherward trip. She requested to run that story before Bran had requested (and ran) his BranRiech trip (request made March or April 2013, I think.) I believe it's only fair that she gets a crack at it before anyone else runs a nation visit. It's her call as far as giving up her "nation visit" slot again. Likewise, NA's SCP has been put on hold nearly that long. I'd prefer it if Swith was allowed to do her trip so those of you wanting to run a nation visit get a feel for how one is done. Her idea has evolved from "diplomatic trip" to an actual fast-paced adventure.

FUBAR would have gone nuts, Varona may or may not have failed a coolness check, the magic protecting the door might have lashed out and killed Sterling, or Nick could have landed on something that would activate a defense mechanism. You know, typical stuff. :p

Door

Bran's character would be able to assess it to determine that it was in the "unlocked" position and, sans power, unable to be locked manually. Think of it as a lovely tornado or hurricane shelter.

I have a Shih Tzu-Pomeranian mix. My mom used to be skeptical about small dogs, but we like her. All the personality and behavior of a regular big dog, but all the manageability of a cat.

I wouldn't mind doing Swith's nation visit soon! Sounds fun!

If only small dogs would litter box train without leaving a mess behind.

Followup with Swith: She's fine with Bran running his Kei story prior to her trip.

 Morgan has officially grounded Swith and I from using the laptop at the dinner table.

Yeah, my SCP event can be put on hold as long as people have better things first and stuff, because the potential area affected by th story will include the building, and the SCP showing up is a bit too big and dangerous to not get the attention of basically everyone in the building(aka anyone who wishes to participate can, but I will ask for people to send non-god characters, I've liked seeing how normal or fairly powerless characters deal with the sometimes OP SCP's)

I'll also want to discuss what I'll be doing in more detail with some of the OPs sometime, to make sure I don't step on people's toes or screw something up like has happened in the past with monster invasion events.

Also if people find interesting SCPs from the website I'd gladly include them if I can, as a mini event before the final part of the event.

I define interesting in this case as follows: fun for everyone and not so deadly that everyone could die as a result. sort of things that we can have a quick event with or a small story, like the flag and radical Larry. Basically something every player involved could have fun playing with/against, without too many negatives, or ones that can be remedied quickly.
