Hello everyone! I'm back until sunday! Yay!

And it actually wasn't too bad! One of the others, who was quite experienced with programming in general for a high school kid, helped me out quite a lot when I was stuck, as did the professors(yes, the course was being taught by actual professors if I'm not mistaken)...... for the final thing, I built upon the hello world file we made by creating a form that tells you what hello and goodbye are by entering the name of the language into a form..... due to time constraints, I only programmed 11 languages (the top 10 + Latin) into it......

Also, I'm sorry to see you go Tilt! Your characters were some of the best in PL, in my opinion! but if you really feel like you must leave, then I guess there's nothing we can do to stop you, but I hope you'll come back eventually!

Also, is it Ok if I work on my revised bio's(with the new format & stuff tomorrow, Swith? a bit tired today from the camp.......

Oh, and something interesting about the camp: one of the roommates I had told me about a logical (with his understanding of physics) FTL system I'm likely to use for my nation......(I even asked, and he said that would be OK)..... He also was a DnD player, so we talked a bit about our characters, and I told him about PL, and some of the stranger(and sillier) things about it...... and he told me about the stories he had made up, along with the species(some were very interesting!)

Found a new book for NVE's characters.

Sunday...... One of the more interesting things tha happened during the off times was that we got to watch Avatar.... and I got some ideas for new species and a new planet for my nation's universe! along with that FTL idea that I got from the other camper..... who found our TV tropes page a bit interesting, and silly.....

Oh, and if you're curious about the FTL idea, then I would be willing to tell you about it!

Its an incredibly advanced thing, though, so my nation will have to be working towards it for a while..... the other Camper called it a Negative Mass Drive, which basically says what it does: lower the gravitational mass of the ship to zero, while keeping the inertial mass. Then you aren't limited by the speed of light, which is in effect the speed limit of the universe..... You then have the possibility of infinite acceleration, and due to time dilation, very little time would pass while you go above the speed of light! A 17 year old thought of that!

Oh, and the reason it doesn't lower inertial mass, is because otherwise there would be nothing stopping you from just pinging off into empty space or celestial bodies uncontrollably...... It would allow a measure of control over the ship and its speed..... It still would take a long time to accelerate and decelerate, since it doesn't involve exiting real-space and dropping back in, but huge amounts of speed, just without the restriction of the speed of light!

"(The World) Just Is"? It's already been finished up, and we're thinking of making a sequel.
"(The World) Just Is" follows the story of an office employer who is having trouble firing his worst, stupidest employee. Every time he tries, the employee breaks down in tears, talking about all of the latest things to have happened in his life ("Then my dog was taken away by an eagle, and my grandmother was hit by a truck, and I learned I have AIDS and cancer..."), so out of pity, the employer continues to feign a joking attitude about the firing, promoting this moron again and again. As to be expected, the employee screws up every promotion he is given.
Meanwhile, somehow related to the main events, a choir gang lurks in dark alleys and beats people to their deaths while singing ominously. On a far away island surrounded by a sea of breast implants created by a mysterious machine, a leprechaun nurses his baby unicorn foster son. A man named Jim also drowns in the sea, and his mother his phoned, informing her that her son died a very, very happy man.
Back to the office, meanwhile, it is revealed that the only reason the company have survived despite the idiot employee's repeated screw ups, is because the office made a deal with Lucifer long ago that he would keep them in business as long as they watched his Persian cat, Jenkins, whenever Lucifer went on vacation. So, the employer realizes, it's okay that the employee is horrible, because they'll do well no matter what.
Until the idiot employee accidentally throws Jenkins out of a top story window. This promptly pisses Lucifer off enough that he uses his black magic ways to send the company plummeting, sends the choir gang to beat the employees senseless, throws the survivors of the attacks into the sea of breast implants, and has those who survive the swim live on the island with the leprechaun and unicorn forever. The only ones who survive the swim are the employer and the idiot employee.

It's an excellent concept.

Superluminal speed and warping space-time aren't the main challenges. Breaking the laws of physicals by having the gravitational mass unequal to the inertial mass (usually, both should be equal) would work if we had a means to do it and enough power/energy to achieve it, but nothing in space is straight and space is full of clutter.

The first challenge is maneuvering at high speeds. I'm on my bike and going at a good clip. I see a car ahead. I begin to maneuver so that I avoid it. The faster I go, the less time I have to change direction. The greater my speed, the greater the impact.

The second is stopping or colliding. Think of a hurricane. A small can of pop can be whipped through the air with such force that it pierces a tree. A ball bearing can strike a metal structure with enough force to pass through it cleanly. When we take a ship and move through space, we can expect to collide with space's answer to pop cans and ball bearings. Even a tiny fragment of asteroid the size of your fist could damage a ship if it's moving fast, and moving at the speed of light or greater would turn that tiny object into a deadly consequence. Now imagine that you can't turn in time. You'd find yourself piercing a larger object if you're off course or if the object's uncharted. It takes a while to get to speed and a while to slow.

I think where he's coming from is that light has momentum without having mass. By decreasing gravitational mass, the ship is becoming like light (in a sense). This might shed some light on how physicists use "mass", no pun intended: http://van.physics.illinois.edu/qa/listing.php?id=1424

That's why I gave up on dicking around with gravity and inertia. I went for phasic space instead.

Yeah, I understand most of that actually... I would assume that you would only use that along routes you knew were safe to go, at least until its perfected. And going under the speed of light, and using probes, would be more used for exploration, colonization.... the NMD just makes that easier to get too, since its not restrained as much by gravity, and you would expect someone who uses that to have pretty fast ships to begin with...... I also just like the idea, and I don't think I've ever heard of someone using it in Sci-fi before, as far as I know....

Also, it would be powered by negative mass, which has the properties that they want their ships to have..... and the only way to make that, at least how he explained it, would be with a particle collider....

And I really don't like the idea of things like hyperspace and dropping out then back into the universe, because it doesn't make sense to me......

oh, and I do not believe we have met before! Hello!

I just formed Prussia. :3

cool!

on another note: I have no idea if I should actually play, or just watch since I'm leaving again in so few days...... I also have no idea what to do with Sig, who is the only character I have the oportunity to play, since most are gone...

Also, the new world and species might lead me to make a few puppets, based on the most powerful nations of each species..... who are all on the same planet, which is 3x the size of the Earth (which in all reality, is not the best place for life.... we are barely large enough to make the cut of holding onto our atmosphere properly!)

Not hyperspace... phasic space. And that would require sitting down with you to explain because I'm just not that clever a writer to describe it properly. *sheepish grin*
