Best you try that in World Market or International Incidents.

To my knowledge most of the expatriates were Irish and ended up fighting for the Union in units like the 69th New York Infantry Volunteers aka the Fighting 69th as this was only 8 years after the Great Famine had ended. But this is an alternative history RP idea so you could have an expat regiment from anywhere on either side.

Interesting. Well, I've done some research and from what it seems, I just want to offer some constructive criticism. Apparently there weren't really any 'light infantry' regiments (at least comparable to the traditional European light infantry units). Most units fought in line formations, shoulder-to-shoulder, with one or more skirmishing companies. From what I read, these skirmishers didn't make much of a difference. There were zouave regiments though. Try to integrate artillery and cavalry traits as well, since some may wish RP these units. Suggestions for traits include Language Barrier (people speak different first languages), Religiously Divided (people are of different faiths, for instance Catholic and Methodist), Ethnic Unity (most soldiers identify to a similar ethnic group and this strengthens the espirit de corps) etc. I am genuinely interested in this, so I hope you go ahead with this. My regiment will probably be Union and infantry and will contains mostly Catholic Germans, Hungarians, Czechs and Poles; essentially people from Austrian-controlled areas, since many were Forty Eighters (revolutionaries who fled the German states after a series of... well, revolutions).

After reading The Stand, I found a passage that detailed two example societies; One built around Boston, in which technologically knowledgeable people survived the plague leading to a technologically superior democracy, and another in Utica, where the lack of technology led to the rise of a political strongman dictator. This got me interested in a possible light-apocalypse roleplay, where the infrastructure and technology survived, but the people who know how to use it are very, very rare.

Currently, I'm looking for opinions on how I might build this up. I was thinking of either making it a faction-based RP, which I like to do but seems to be less popular, built around already-constructed communities and how they interact with one another, or a character-driven RP in which we, as the people with the limited knowledge of old technology, form a community or communities based on the knowledge at hand and technology left behind.

So, any ideas? Any criticisms and opinions are welcome.

I agree, but I wish it was a bit more fleshed out. Why is the world crumbling? Zombies or something? And why does everybody still have an internet connection?

I don't know anything about the internet, so I'd say it doesn't need people to keep it running.

Pretty much. Without routers and wifi centers, no one would have internet. It just needs a bit more background.

Here is my OOC thread: Dark Sun

This is probably a pretty generic setting, but honestly it's the sort of thing I'd like to play. A realistic (or at least believable) universe about economic, political, and military maneuvering. With spaceships, because everything is better that way.

Thoughts? Maybe someone would like to participate *hint hint*? ;)

Gooooooooooooooooood morning (or evening) Traveller's Café! I had an Idea for a new RP and I wanted to get some outsider/second-hand opinions on it before I officially opened it up.

Setting: 1930's Alternate History, recent leaps in engineering and architectural study have allowed both German and British mechanics to develop a new form of armored vehicle for the second world war. These "Walking Armored Vehicles" or WAV's have started to gain popularity amongst the rank and file soldiers, allowing for adaption to new environments and situations with little more than several hours in the workshop and the right weapons and parts. Studies on these WAV's have begun both in Japan and the United states, although the latter has little need for such tools of war and so said studies are minimal at best. With the war between the Chinese Communist party (CCP) and the Kuomintang (KMT) still raging strong, Japan has turned it's attention to other parts of South east Asia, planning to let the Chinese wear themselves out on civil war before formally declaring war.

Overview: At the beginning of the RP, as with the invention and development of tanks, these WAV's would be rather primitive. Suspension on these vehicles would only minimal arms and armor such as smaller autocannons or a pair of mid-sized caliber cannons (similar to the main guns on a tank) to be installed. However they would still be highly dangerous and even (as time went on) go on to completely replace most tracked vehicles (save those whom serve logistical purposes). Whether or not the RP stayed in the '40s or evolved into later years (and as such, allowed new technologies) I haven't decided yet, although I do know that each nation would most likely favor certain concepts;weapons and tactics as they did with tanks during the second world war. would also have to decide if players act as each nation or as individual crews (as it wouldn't be operated by just one man)

Once I have all the above-mentioned fine details hammered out I'd have it opened up, a general template would then be provided (What parts/equipment must exist on the vehicle, what weight limits the suspensions can hold etc.) for which players could design their own WAV and go to war against their foes. For those of you who have played it, this idea stems from an old PS2 game, Ring of Red, for those of you not familiar with the game, I'd advise you to take a lookover as this would give you an idea on how such vehicles would be (more or less) set up.

I have had a recent idea for a role-play (from a book, NOT Harry Potter) that i'd like to see happen, the main idea is a wizard academy with rival houses and challenges that the students must overcome, the roles could include but not limited to students, teachers, soldiers, Queens/Kings, bluebloods (nobles), carriers. I was hopeing that this RP could kinda be an ongoing one instead of having a dramatic end but im open to ideas. TG me if you got any advice on how to get this rolling, thanks.

I'd possibly be interested, but I'm too busy for another RP right now.

We already have at least two magic school RP's; Elfen High and Sylvan Academy. Of course, Elfen High isn't a school RP half the time, and it's closed, but Sylvan is still open I think, and it even has houses.

The World of Xanth RP

Postby Ibwa » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:08 am

(new idea) " The world of Xanth is a fascinating world of puns, adventure, and real danger. with unlimited amounts of possibilities, outcomes, and character formats. The only thing you'd really need to RP imagination and an understanding of the Xanth world."

how does that sound? probably need a starter situation or idea to get the RP going but that shouldn't be any harder than getting people to join

Edit: http://forum.nationstates.net/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=231386 just created! hope people come

Also, I had an idea about people getting commisions to start colonies in the New World in 1630. So basically, you can make your own colony and pick where you want it and what you want it to be called. What do you think?

A Tale of Fate and Serendipity.

The big, bad original Dice RP is back in town. Well, sort of. I made a new Dice RP much in the vein of the original with all the quirkiness and wackiness of A Tale of Luck and Chance. So, if you like Dice RPs and miss the good ol' days, then come on down. It'll be just like how you remember it but better. If you haven't played a Dice RP before and want to see what it's all about, then this is the perfect chance to get into it as nothing is better at showing you what they're all about than the original.

So, come join this exciting new (yet old) RP!

Doesn't make them a good RPer too. However, lately, AWRP are popping out from the darkness...

Do you always blatantly lie to everyone, or only on this website?

Olthar wasn't lying. She didn't want to have to continue writing in your RP, but still wanted to put up her RP that she had been working on for a long time. And besides, running a Dce RP takes a lot less effort, once you finish drawing up all the maps.

Kudos.

Of course, hosting a roleplay requires a lot less time and effort than merely participating in one.
