"I don't catch your meaning," Swith replied truthfully. "It's up to each person to determine whether or not their existence is fun. God, demigod, angel, human, houseplant - 'Life' is what they make of it." She smiled at him.

Swith poured herself a cup of coffee and then, noticing Naomi skulk in, poured one for her as well.

"Settled in?" Swith asked. "I waited for you as long as I could last night. Where were you?"

"Hanging out with Totenkopf," Naomi sipped her coffee. "Doing nothing, really."

Swith rolled her eyes.

"Mistress was one who fed me in the Zone. I was hurt, very bad, by some other humans. Then Mistress came along and took me to an old barge where some other human had a pet Psuedodog. Bells jingled gaily as Chan returned driving the pony cart. An assortment of pediatric high pitched "ep, ep, ep" and "wow wow wow" noises erupted from the box of the cart when she brought it to a halt. She unhitched Smokey, handed him a cigar, and turned him loose to graze after he enjoyed a good smoke. Reaching into the wagon, she lifted out a largish cardboard box with holes in the side, similar to those handed out at pet shops to carry your new puppy home in.

Peering through a hole, she grinned widely and gave a little skip. "I can't wait until the roomies see you - oh, and the big gators are going to love you to bits." Spazkats head appeared from the wagon, and she hopped lightly down and strode into the building, tail high, clearly somewhat disconcerted by her new roommates. In the hall she came to a halt, nose high to scent the air. Was that someone cooking something tasty? She ran to the dining area.

Chan wasn't far behind, her arms full of the rustling and wiggling box,still making "ep ep ep" and "wow wow" noises. The gators in her room thudded against the door and she paused to let them out. Very excited and curious - probably because those "ep ep ep" noises were quite like those made by newly hatched gators - they followed at her heels.

At last Chan made it into the dining room and set her burden down on the floor. Looking around she called out "Anyone home? Oh please, someone be home! I want to show off my new pets! And I'll give some away, too - Auntie gave me a whole litter!"

With a disco-ball effect and a puff of smoke that smelled of bacon and Marsala sauce, Cuisine appeared on his tray still only in his TV box. He examined his surroundings, somewhat surprised.

There was an odd little pop. Chan looked around the dining room for the source of the noise. Sounded a bit like it was in her apartment. She leaned down and patted the gators, telling the smaller one to stay and watch the babies, and the larger one to come with her. Accompanied by him, she walked slowly back down the hall towards her room, more curious than anything else.
