Greater Liyue,

I am actually quite intrigued that you use North Korean aesthetic, but as far as I noticed your personal beliefs are not parallel to the beliefs of that particular country. This gives me several things I'm fond of finding out:

1. What do you think of North Korea/DPRK in general?

2. Non-canon wise, how did you end up with this North Korean aesthetic?

3. How did your civilization end up in the outer space?

4. Did the Liyuean government has any attempt to assimilate every other race found in other planets into the Nation's culture, if any? (Not religious culture but more like general/ethnical culture.)

5. Is the planet of which Greater Liyue reside only a home to a single country (Liyue), or are there any other countries beside it?

@Pirussavia
Thanks for the long reply. Was interesting.

2. what's the point of documenting all decisions to new issues and what made you do that? is it too bothersome? or even new ways for documentation that is more interesting and innovative?

---------------------------------------------------------
The reason why my flag has never changed is:

1. It fits imho perfectly to the story of Teffland and its foundation: The contact of the leader of the settlers "Ludwig" with the tribe on a beach at dawn. Teffland is named after one of the first words learned during this contact: Teff+ala = Light eye = sun. And the "light of eyes" also known as vision and the "light of ears" also known as ability to hear play as special role in Teffland. Without people lacking these skills (and other skills), there would be no friendly contact between the tribe and the settlers, no "special religion", no culture of storytelling and - very important - not a common sign language spoken by almost all Tefflandians additional to the oral one as a sign of eternal friendship between tribe and setlers. And much less love and trust and art. Teffland is a story of the common people being "heroes".

And now my flag has changed. It still had to be "Kiribati" somehow, Teffland is positioned around there, it is by far my favorite flag (and Bhutan) and fits to the story quite well.
But it has not yet included the play of the motto "With the spirit of the hawk/heart"(referring to a song by Rednex) both words sounding similar. The additional papership with the heart and the hawk, as shown in the primary banner illustrates the playful, retro-loving, sailing, artful, somehow childish, and out of the box thinking society imho quite well.

About "rudimentary worldbuilding". Many nations seem to emphasize geography, history and military. I hate that. And they often lack other parts, which define a society (everything related to culture).
Nations without people, who position themselves to the world for reasons. I have left some pieces blank during worldbuilding on purpose like energy usage (how much are electronics recyclable? I do not know, and it is important for Tefflandians), detailed geography (cannot decide a reasonable pop size for them), parts of history (I do not want much violence and do not want to distract from the essentials - culture-related topics).

2. I wanted to see, how other people decided in issues, and WHY they did it. Talking about the concepts involved. A game around issues and nobody tells the decisions and reasons for it? Why?
Unfortunately very few tell somehow. So I wanted to be one of the first.

I unfortunately only have one question for you and that question is about Laka's religion, which seems very interesting to me. In your religion factbook you state the mortal sins are cowardice, gluttony, dishonesty, selfishness, envy, irresponsibility, greed, blasphemy, indifference, frivolity.

So, my question is this... In most religions gay and trans people are looked down upon and are considered sinful. How does your nation's religion view these people? Are they looked down upon or are they respected by Laka's religion?

Go no further than the religion factbook!
Religion condemns same-sex relationships, to some extent. Any kind of sexual intercourse outside of marriage or marriage with multiple partners is even more condemned. It is believed that this inclines a person to sin, deprives him of dignity and does not work at all. Perhaps it is from this that the roots of the cult of monogamy and loyalty in Laka Strolistandiler grow.

From myself I’d like to add that while same sex relationships strictly within marriage are permitted in Glyton, transgender and gay people are still looked down, mainly because they’re viewed as being too unreliable and have a far higher average divorce rate than traditional couples. Also because state discrimination policies.

How would your world react to meeting humanity or any other human-like species for the first time?
It would be the similar reaction as humans meeting with aliens. People in this World did not know how humans looked like since humans do not exist in this World, so they will think humans (Homo sapiens) are very alien and exotic.

With your aesthetic, the Cold War, is there an ongoing space race? If so, who is involved? Who is considered the 'leader' within the Space Race?
Yes, of course. The United States of Arconia (USA) and Union of Sovereign People's Republic (USSR) were the participants. USPR ruled this Space Race, and they landed on the moon first (not with the N-1 rocket). However, USA still carried on and landed after USPR, and mind-blowingly, they even met on the moon.

You mention that there are hostile relations with Vermelia and border skirmishes in the 1950s in your lore. Have there recent border skirmishes since then? If so, what has been the cause of these skirmishes? (like resources, ideology, etc)

The relations between Pirusavia and Vermelia has been 'salty' since the end of WW2. Border skirmishes were almost very frequent each year, but the most significant ones happened in 1950, 1967, 1972, 1985, 1993, and 1997. Vermelia was incredibly paranoid and isolationist since the plan on uniting Pirusavia along with other countries in the Peninsula into the "Transcarnegian Federation" failed. Since that event, Vermelia was always paranoid about Pirusavia absorbing them into the territory. Chauvinistic tendencies increased in Vermelia increased and they put militarism on steroids. Other than ideological conflict, Vermelia also put claim on several water reservoirs, mountains, and they claimed that "the Vermelian-speaking minorities in Pirusavia were endangered".

In 1997, after the death of Edvard Pergenn, Vermelia declared war on Pirusavia. Using the "keep throwing men" tactics, Vermelia successfully occupied almost half of the State of Puronia, although due to their poor equipment, they were easily pushed off by the PNPA. (Vermelia is like DPRK/Albania mix, but the people have a little bit of extra "freedom". Funnily, in this world, the Tankies defended Vermelia despite it was openly not communist anymore, claiming that Vermelia was the "bastion of anti-revisionism".)

If you have lore on it, what was the Aldeannic Conflict? Who was involved and what was the outcome?
(I'm currently writing this on my factbook, coincidentally) The Aldeannic Conflict was a conflict over the isles of Lazmaria in the centre of Aldeannic Sea, West of Pirusavia. Fought between Correnia, Anglia, and Pirusavia (although Anglia later supported Pirusavia). The war was caused by Correnia violating the 1960 Roundtable Conference, claiming the whole territories of Lazmaria. Correnia was given the Northwest Island, Anglia given the Northeast Island, and Pirusavia given the Southern Island.

The event that pulled trigger to the war was when Correnian Coast Guards shot a Pirusavian ferry ship full of passangers, setting the ship on fire, and claiming that "they thought it was a warship", despite the obvious signs that it was a civilian vessel.

After the incident, Pirusavia fortified their regiments in Southern Lazmaria. The Correnians now know that it would be justifiable to attack Pirusavia. However, Pirusavia has larger manpower, causing their attacks to stall rather quickly. Correnia failed to invade Southern Lazmaria, and stalemates happened here and there. The war ended in 1982 after the Tulip Revolution in Correnia, causing their military to back off from the isles. Pirusavians claimed it was Pirusavia's victory, but some Correnian nationalist insisted that it was "just because we back off".

1.) I think one of the most recognizable cliches in the Cyberpunk genre, is when writers just focus on all the cool and shiny technology in that setting. Instead of focusing on the mega-corps and giving up one's humanity when using cybernetics to enhance the human body.

2.) It is mostly based of another fictional world. Valhalla is basically inspired by Arasaka from Cyberpunk 2077.

3.) I would give Ayako a 10/10 for her appearance.

Hi Greater Liyue, thanks for your question.

First off I would rather point out that you did not really start this question on an impartial light.

“Trying to understand” things would be dubious as it seems that you are coming from an impartial POV, however by answering I will give an alternative POV.

Greater Liyue wrote:1: Why cat girl anime? I am a huge Genshin Impact fan (I main Ningguang and I would crawl over broken glass to unlock Zhongli), but I never saw the appeal of cat girls. I find the whole aesthetic off-putting to say the least.

Then this is subjective as there is no good reason to dislike them other than pure taste. This is the same for all art and aesthetic in general. And I would probably answer the same – because I saw the appeal and find the whole aesthetic appealing to say the least.

Tbf I had already answered this question before. But to make long story short, it all went with a lot of things such as how they fit with Internet leftist meme (which can be another thing), aesthetic, cuteness (see above), and overall how catgirls have generally likeable traits from self-realization such as being nice, being approachable and not veering to conflict (bec. they say meow all the time? even if Las Palmeras would digress) and a youthful and caring vibe, both from my opinion and how I think how would happen realistically a lot of times.

In regards to catgirl anime, I do not watch lots of “catgirl anime” in general nor is it a well-established genre, but nonetheless you have asked about the “aesthetic” more.

Greater Liyue wrote:2: Why hentai? I am completely against any and all forms of "adult films" and comparable novels in my personal life. ......

On an unrelated note if you are asking from an OOC POV do not put in IC things such as “in Greater Liyue”. This is an OOC question.

Now, one thing that I would note is, while this is generally unrelated to hentai and applies to all things, you can’t paint an accurate picture of a group of people from a small set and from that paint broad generalizations as this would be a fallacy. You yourself said “this person’s hentai affinity was not the main factor”, your experience is both limited and subjective and does not represent a group of people, esp. if it just 1 or 2 people.

Greater Liyue wrote:It made this person extremely deranged and depraved and was one of many factors why I cut all contact with this person (this person's hentai affinity was not the main factor

Going from this I’m not sure what you mean by “extremely deranged and depraved” but its dubious if hentai can suddenly give one a psychotic personality that didn’t exist in the first place (and also unscientific). Also this would require me to assume things about this person who I don’t know. You also seem to imply that this person have this personality trait even before hentai.

Talking about this honestly would require us a longer discussion to tackle a more complex issue and talk about things we do not share a common language (and you also seem to be speaking in vague language which is confusing me).

My simplest takeaway from this is that its wrong to blame hentai only as the thing that could “give” or “influence” “certain desires” in people (or affect personality trais) as those desires or attitudes already exist in society. Hentai as a work of society would be of course influenced by the views of the people who make them, and hentai don’t give birth to new ideas or desires, but simply reflect ideas or desires that already exist. If for example you come across people who seem to be “encouraged” to do certain acts due to hentai, then hentai simply reinforces the desires already held by those people which society encourages them.

Greater Liyue wrote:I fail to understand why people are into that sort of thing and I just want to know the logic behind it...

To answer you, “Hentai” is a broad medium and could include a lot of works that all have different content and serve different functions. It’s not even a genre, but only a general term for any erotic/pornographic anime or manga and is like saying “Pop music” or “Movie”. Just because 2 people both like “hentai” don’t necessarily mean that they both have the same interests, same view or reason or share the same wavelengths as “hentai” is simply an umbrella term.

So I believe that I cannot give you a general answer on why people like hentai. You would have to ask your friend why they like it, and if I were to succinctly answer this question we would have to delve into a vulgar discussion of genres why they like it (which you definitely don’t want)

I honestly have difficulty answering your question “why I like hentai” since it’s too general and is like asking me “Why I like video games” or “Why I like movies” but to answer a few: is often I also like the plot and aesthetic, esp. in visual novels, lots of hentai are made in a positive vibe and cheerful slice-of-life which gives me a colorful feeling, and even if I have a love-and-hate relationship with it I see sex as a positive thing and do not want a dogmatic attitude to it. As an LGBT+ person, hentai also sometimes give me comfort because I can symphatize and vibe with it well because a lot of it has LGBT+ themes, compared to mainstream media (or even porn) which is often heterosexual and heteronormative.

Greater Liyue wrote:3: Have you ever played Genshin Impact? Who would you use? I will guess Diona, but please tell me who you would use.

I don’t play Genshin Impact and therefore I don’t know, nor care enough to decide who I would use

Greater Liyue wrote:4: Do you believe people can be redeemed? Part of the reason I cannot stand cat girls was that same person close to me (who we will call ??? from now on)...

Once again I would tell you what I said above that you cannot generally paint a group of people from a small representative. This friend of yours (who we call “???”) do not represent all people who like catgirls, “very off-putting anime” and “waifus” so to be frank your reason for dislike, or justification comes from an irrational perspective.

First of all, it is strange to ask how people can be “redeemed” especially next to questions about catgirls or hentai so I think you are going on a loaded direction here. To what exactly do these people need to be “redeemed”? For what reason? And to clear things I believe we don’t necessarily share the same concept of morality here.

If you are talking about a change of behavior, yes, certain people can always change their behavior. And some people can certainly do that for a lot of reasons by themself. But of course behavior is affected by society and environment. There are definitely ways to change people’s behavior like education or rehabilitation but the most effective way would be to simply change society and the environment.

Greater Liyue wrote:5: Korean food is my favorite food, especially Bulgogi and Korean grilled fish in Gochujang sauce. Do you like Korean food? If so, which dishes?

I would like to like Korean food.

But I believe I can’t say I like Korean food because I haven’t had lots of opportunity to try it and to know lots of it. (I’m not like Sakura!) I haven’t been able to go to Korean restaurants in my area.

One of my memorable visits to a Korean restaurant was bad because it was on a cheap restaurant that only Korean exchange students and weird Korean old men eat, so I can’t say the food was good.

However I do like the few dishes that I have tasted. My mom makes a lot of samgyupsal and we bought that grilling cauldron where you can make it. We eat it with kimchi, lettuce and cheddar cheese. I’ve grown to like it!

Me and my friends also ate bibimbap and I also liked it! It was at least tasty!

I think I would like to eat more Korean food in the future.

Was there a backlash against this type of culture or is tolerated in Las Palmeras?

You have your leader partaking in a "Moral" crusade against corruption. But you go no further than that so is your leader just pretending to crack down on the self-serving but in reality just using it as a facade to eliminate any opposition to his position? In addition, why did you decide to go the route of a socialist nation despite that being an overused cliche?

The Alkdorian Empire wrote:You have your leader partaking in a "Moral" crusade against corruption. But you go no further than that so is your leader just pretending to crack down on the self-serving but in reality just using it as a facade to eliminate any opposition to his position? In addition, why did you decide to go the route of a socialist nation despite that being an overused cliche?

1. Interesting observation but on an OOC standpoint that isn't the intended effect. From an OOC perspective I added this violent crusade to show the dark side of Sherechian society plus make Inogo not seem like this completely benevolent, utopian leader, he has his flaws and this is one of them. Back to Sherechian society, I needed to find a weakness, a social issue for Sherechia because we are democratic, freedom-loving, progressive, tolerant on race, gender, religion and orientation, its basically perfect so I needed a weakness to counterbalance all of this.

2. Socialism has this "fiery, revolutionary" feel to it, if you know what I mean, it kind of suits the Sherechian culture, but yeah on second thoughts I do feel like some sort of nationalistic Sherechian ba'athist state could also have that same feeling while being a little bit less cliche. Even if I did go through that path Sherechia from the surface is inherently cliche, a democratic MT nation run by humans thats mostly functional, so honestly it wouldn't made that much of a difference to make Sherechia less cliche from the surface.

I hope this answers your questions, if you still have more questions or are unsatisfied with my current answer feel free to ask again.

Pirusavia wrote:Greater Liyue,

Pirusavia,

Excellent questions! I will answer them in the order you gave them. I apologize for taking so long. I was very busy with work.

1: North Korea is an interesting place with a beautiful traditional culture dating back thousands of years (i.e. Traditional Korean Culture, which would be familiar to the kings and queens of Joseon). There are many historical sites I would love to see. However, their government is about as oppressive as it gets. I do NOT support the Kim family or Juche at all. I feel really bad for the average North Korean who is just trying to survive while Kim Jong-Un starves them, steals the fruits of their labor, executes dissidents, or throws people into forced labor camps. I hope one day the DPRK reforms and people have basic rights and a stronger economy. With all the history (and what is in my opinion the most delicious traditional cuisine anywhere in the world), they could eventually become a tourist hotspot once they actually have a competent and caring leader.

2: I came up with the North Korean aesthetic in two ways. First, my favorite movie is "007: Die Another Day," which takes place in North Korea (for part of the movie). I had this movie on my mind when I made Greater Liyue. Second, I love to make North Korea jokes (basically jokes mocking the Kim regime). I wanted to find a new way of making North Korea jokes and remembered NationStates. In my opinion, the best way to make a dictator like Kim Jong-Un look ridiculous is humor. Thus, I parodied his policies and made fun of things I do not like. Sometimes, I reply to posts in a very dramatic way. This is a reference to Ri Chun-Hee (look her up, she is their most famous reporter and her tone sounds like she is commanding an army).

3: The original Liyueans were a mix of Koreans (North and South), Chinese, and Americans (particularly Southerners) who were found by aliens and received alien technology. This is how we reached Outer Space and how our culture came to be.

4: Yes. Greater Liyue has assimilated other races and species. Per official policy, Greater Liyue respects their cultures and lists them as "Official Minority Culture" to avoid destruction of their culture and preserve their tradition. However, everyone assimilates to the broader Greater Liyuean culture (mostly a mixed Korean-Chinese-American culture) regardless of race, ethnicity, species, etc.

5: The capital planet of Greater Liyue is home only to our country. Some planets only house territory of Greater Liyue. Others are partially-owned by our great nation.

Hello!
1) Unfortunately not. I've visited several archeological sites, have a general gist of some theories and trends of Mesoamerican and Aridoamerican archeology and the metholdological/academic reasoning behind them, have some knowledge over how potsherds can be used to reconstruct economic routes (and how this affects more theories) in a certain state of Mexico and I have even done a conference on the matter, but I'm a historian...a desk jockey.

2) Those things don't exist in the revised LP-verse, I just tease about them OOCly/when breaking the 4rth Wall. The setting is 1965-1968: Rump Imperial Japan is a far-right Hermit Kingdom and the Japanese Democratic Republic (Hokkaido) would probably view pornography as bourgeoise degeneracy or something under more old fashioned Soviet policies. If anime/VNs like Nekopara and hentai involving catgirls did exist, I could imagine some people getting offended or morbidly amused but nobody's gonna cause a riot over smut.

But now that you got me thinking about the LP-verse's pop culture...the cutest/sexiest thing around, I imagine, would probably be one or two manga strips similar to Jucika coming out of "Red Hokkaido". The closest thing to anime would be cartoons that the Palmerans/Tohorinese make, who would be capable of having a larger animation industry and the narrative flexibility to not limit a medium exclusively to children. Excluding small children's entertainment, though, I'd also imagine stuff like the West German Nick Knatterton or heavier slapstick and satire or parody shows similar to the later Osomatsu-san, as well as a handful of feature-lenth sci-fi/adventure films and shows that would try to be as different from D*sney as possible by stylistically simplifying it: so yeah, something similar to the rounded yet gritty look of comedy and shoujo anime of the 1960s, but it'll probably be the distinct style of Las Palmeras forever.

3) I'm interested in the Cold War and the USSR was a big player. I like imagining scenarios where the Soviets sometimes have opposing interests and sometimes have similar ones, just like IRL politics. I also have a thing for Soviet paraphernalia, I'm not into it politically, which just makes it weirder. Hahaha.
