[Draft] Commend Ariddia

Postby Choppyhausen » Sun Sep 27, 2026 3:36 am

Hello Security Councilians! Today we bring you yet another proposal from the far-flung lands of NS Sports. Ariddia was one of the most influential nations in the early history of NSS and the founder of its most important tournament: The World Cup. While their active days in NSS are long past, they are still around and, as we believe, very much worthy of recognition by the Security Council.

Commend Ariddia

Category: Commendation| Nominee: Ariddia | Proposed by: Choppyhausen

The Security Council,

Acknowledging the World Cup as the multiverse’s most prestigious football tournament and its longest-running sporting event, as previously recognized by this council,

Introducing [nation=long]Ariddia[/nation] as a nation of nineteen islands that has shaped the early history of international sporting competition and the World Cup like none other,

Recognizing Ariddia as the founding nation of the World Cup that organized and hosted its inaugural edition back in antiquity, thereby paving the way for over a hundred more editions filled with intense competition, fascinating stories and more than 1093 national football teams fighting for the title, many of which are still playing in the World Cup today,

Impressed by Ariddia’s hosting pedigree, being one of only five nations to singlehandedly host a World Cup,

Appreciating that Ariddia was the only nation to participate in each of the first ten World Cups, providing experience and stability to a then-fledgling tournament,

Remembering Ariddia’s induction into the World Cup Nation Hall of Fame following the 7th edition of the World Cup, making them one of the first to be recognized as one of the great football-playing nations,

Recalling the era between World Cups 31 and 39, later named Attacking and Ancient Arts by historians, as a time of Ariddian dominance over international football, and applauding Ariddia’s national football team, the Rouge-et-Noirs, for their three titles won in this era, including:
  • World Cup 32 in Geisenfried and Milchama, where in the final team captain Hanifah Kyaw scored the winning goal against Jeruselem in her last match for Ariddia,
  • World Cup 34 which Ariddia co-hosted with the Holy Empire, where the Rouge-et-Noirs won with 4-1 over Milchama in a final that was played simultaneously on their home soil and in the Holy Empire, and
  • World Cup 36 in the Unified Capitalizt States and Cafundeu, where Ariddia came from behind to win 4-2 after extra time in an all-communist final versus Errinundera,

Astonished at the Rouge-et-Noirs reaching four finals in the span of five tournaments (World Cups 32-36), a feat only ever achieved by them and Bedistan throughout World Cup history,

Amazed by the Ulek, a traditional war chant and dance, performed by the Ariddian national football team prior to each of their matches with the intention of intimidating and instilling fear into their opponents,

Aware that, at various times during early history, Ariddians held the position of President of the World Cup Committee, which requires great community trust in order to successfully administrate signups and host bidding for major competitions,

Applauding Ariddians’ welcoming and earnest nature, thanks to which many nations continue to send representatives to international sporting competitions,

Noting that without Ariddia’s contributions, the multiverse’s sporting history would look very different, if it existed at all and believing that such contributions ought to be recognized by this council,

Hereby commends Ariddia.

First read through is very positive, well written and seems legal. I don’t know enough about NSS to make comment about the details, but it looks researched in depth.

Draft looks okay for a first draft but I'm not entirely convinced they're commendable. For example, I could probably list like, at least 10 uncommended nations that have similar World Cup achievements.

The one way that I could see you making the case is if you really emphasize their role in organizing the inaugural World Cup? I know info may be hard to come by but that is something that I would really try to emphasize if I could. As it stands, a lot of your achievements listed just seem to be the product of being early in terms of World Cup history.

I would be very happy to be wrong but I'd love actual people from the NS Sports Community to chime in with their opinions; at the minute, I'm not convinced of the commendability.

I have some thoughts!

Acknowledging the World Cup as the multiverse’s most prestigious football tournament and its longest-running sporting event, as previously recognized by this council,

I don't think Acknowledging is is the right opener here, try something more like "Extolling the World Cup as the multiverse's most prestigious, and longest running, sporting event,"

I have a few things here. First, why is it important that Ariddia is made up of nineteen islands? As I was reading I expected it to come up again in some way but it never did. It's not a super interesting fact about the nation, and if it's just there for flavor text then you don't really need it and can probably lose it.

Next, you should probably combine these two clauses something like: "Introducing Ariddia as the nation which founded the World Cup, organizing and hosting the inaugural edition back in antiquity, paving the way for over a hundred more editions, filled with intense competition, fascinating stories, and playing host to more than 1000 national football teams,"

If you're not going to (or cant) give us the exact number of teams that have played in World Cups over the years then round to the nearest impressive number which should be either 1000 or 1100, and just specify that it's more than that number. You can also probably leave off "many of which are still playing in the World Cup today" because it feels patently untrue, unless there are 545+ teams signing up for each edition of the world cup.

Remembering Ariddia’s induction into the World Cup Nation Hall of Fame following the 7th edition of the World Cup, making them one of the first to be recognized as one of the great football-playing nations,

Everything after "of the World Cup" reads incredibly awkwardly, and probably needs a bit more revision try something along the lines of "Remembering that, following the 7th edition of the World Cup Ariddia was inducted into the World Cup Nation Hall of Fame, one of the earliest recipients of the honor, marking them as one of the greatest football-playing nations,"

Recalling the era between World Cups 31 and 39, later named Attacking and Ancient Arts by historians, as a time of Ariddian dominance over international football, and applauding Ariddia’s national football team, the Rouge-et-Noirs, for their three titles won in this era, including:
World Cup 32 in Geisenfried and Milchama, where in the final team captain Hanifah Kyaw scored the winning goal against Jeruselem in her last match for Ariddia,
World Cup 34 which Ariddia co-hosted with the Holy Empire, where the Rouge-et-Noirs won with 4-1 over Milchama in a final that was played simultaneously on their home soil and in the Holy Empire, and
World Cup 36 in the Unified Capitalizt States and Cafundeu, where Ariddia came from behind to win 4-2 after extra time in an all-communist final versus Errinundera,

Astonished at the Rouge-et-Noirs reaching four finals in the span of five tournaments (World Cups 32-36), a feat only ever achieved by them and Bedistan throughout World Cup history,

I have several thoughts about these clauses as well.

First: "later named Attacking and Ancient Arts by historians" why is this relevant, as it named this because of something that Ariddia did? If so what did Ariddia do to get this era to be named after them. Right now it's just a random fact that you've put in there that doesn't seem to have much to do with the nominee, and if it doesn't have anything to do with the nominee, then it's not necessary.

Similarly: Does it matter which nation all of these games was hosted in? If it does then tell us why, if it doesn't then you can leave that information out of the resolution.

Next: The current layout of these two clauses makes the Astonished clause feel pedestrian, which it shouldn't. I would suggest combining the information in the Astonished clause into the recalling clause before the list; and expand the list to include the final that they reached but did not win, and then add a small clause following it that just says "Astonished that Ariddia is one of only two nations to have so dominant a display in any quintet of editions," If they were the first nation to have so dominant a display, point that out too.

Aware that, at various times during early history, Ariddians held the position of President of the World Cup Committee, which requires great community trust in order to successfully administrate signups and host bidding for major competitions,

How many times? Numbers are impressive, vaguery is not. Even if you have to say "more than X times in the first Y editions", that's more impressive than just saying "they were the president of the world cup committee a lot, a long time ago".

Noting that without Ariddia’s contributions, the multiverse’s sporting history would look very different, if it existed at all and believing that such contributions ought to be recognized by this council,

This is the clause that convinced me that Ariddia was commendable, if you're wondering, it's this piece that prompted me to provide feedback beyond "they don't seem very commendable". The argument that they have irrevocably and inarguably not just altered but maybe even progenerated an entire massive community and genre on the site. That's the money clause right there.

As a final note, you are very close starting every clause with an "A" which I think would be very fun if you could site down with a thesaurus and make that happen.

Seems a little short (or I'm blind), so looking forward to development there... but you're normally who I would defer to for NS Sports nominees, to happy to support when it reaches its final and submittable versions.

Thanks for your feedback! I'm going to talk to Choppy about this, but there are a few points that I can quickly answer:

Recognizing Ariddia as the founding nation of the World Cup that organized and hosted its inaugural edition back in antiquity, thereby paving the way for over a hundred more editions filled with intense competition, fascinating stories and more than 1093 national football teams fighting for the title, many of which are still playing in the World Cup today,

1093 is an important number in NS Sports, seemingly arbitrarily, so that's why it's often included in NS Sports resolution drafts. I'll try to find the exact number, because all of it is theoretically in a spreadsheet somewhere - this spreadsheet unfortunately does have over a hundred thousand rows, so it might take me a while.

If they were the first nation to have so dominant a display, point that out too.

They weren't.

Our source is an archived version of NSwiki that just lists the previous World Cup Committee presidents during that time, in order but not saying when they served - the only people who would know exactly when we won't be able to reach until around the fourth of October, I'm pretty sure.

As a final note, you are very close starting every clause with an "A" which I think would be very fun if you could site down with a thesaurus and make that happen.

I'm going to try to do this, because it would be funny and work with the name Ariddia.
