[PASSED] Commend Ravania Ultra

Postby Rhaza » Mon Apr 21, 2025 6:00 am

This draft is a little rough around the edges. It was hard to research because it is an older figure, the accessibility of information on the old UDL forums, and my unwillingness to speak to some UDL figures. I am hoping I get lucky and get some more information through this thread, so I got it to a serviceable-ish state for the forums.

Ravania is one of the most level headed, patient, and skilled defenders to set foot on the field. His sleepers have gained over 1,000,000 influence across thousands of regions, he's locked hundreds from future invasions, and has always entered operations with his best foot forward. While my service only overlapped with his somewhat, I have no doubt he deserves a commendation.

In 2022 I resolved to complete what I considered the trinity of historically infeasible defender commendations: Tim-Opolis, Numero Capitan, and Ravania. I would like to wrap that endeavor up.

With respect to the NPA leaking scandal involving Ravania and The North Pacific - I had spoken with their government when I first began pursuing this and we both seemed happy to leave the decade+ past in the past. Considering Ravania has gone on to serve in militaries allied by treaty to the North for years since, I think that is sensible and should not preclude his commendation. This is unlikely to prevent agitators from showing up here, but I figured I would mention it nonetheless.

Character count: 4,890.

The Security Council,

Recalling that Ravania Ultra’s infancy was as a native of Vlaanderen, a small founderless community of culturally similar nations, plagued with constant vulnerability,

Admiring Ravania’s role in Vlaanderen’s long-term security, taking a leading role in refounding the region through the proxy nation 1302. This operation has allowed Vlaanderen to exist peacefully since, and the region has gone on to form a confederation with other historic communities of cultural similarity, Belgium and Nederland,

Respecting Ravania’s long-term loyalty to Belgium’s community in their governorless era, maintaining numerous nations in the region, ensuring its security for over a decade and supporting the region’s native government militarily when not conducting defender deployments themselves,

Grateful that Ravania would go on to explore lands beyond Belgium’s borders, aiding in 2011’s liberation of Christmas and joining the United Defenders League (UDL) where they quickly became an officer and eventually Chief of the Band, the principal leader of the organization,

Acclaiming Ravania’s contributions to the major anti-fascist liberation of Anne Frank during their time as the UDL’s leader and thankful that they have continued to aid in keeping the region alive and out of deplorable hands,

Lauding Ravania as a prolific user and innovator of defender tactics surrounding “sleepers”, proxy nations stationed in vulnerable regions to heighten the barriers to regional destruction and aid in liberation efforts. Ravania's extensive sleeper network generated millions of influence for the defender cause and inspired others to adopt the tactic for the preservation of native communities,

Firmly believing that without the proliferation of sleeper tactics by Ravania, defending would be immeasurably disadvantaged. Such efforts greatly increase the chances of protecting native communities, and Ravania’s diligence, patience, and longevity in this effort as well as passing it down cannot be fully done justice on paper,

Acclaiming Ravania as a pioneer in detagging (removing invader vandalism from vulnerable regions) where they meticulously compiled vast records of regions in need of such assistance, prior to the introduction of modern resources that aid defenders in this process,

Emphasizing the usefulness of Ravania’s patience and attention to detail in defender activity, especially before the introduction of world-wide tracking by global census-takers. Ravania excelled in noticing in-progress and completed invasions at a time when it was much more laborious, their commitment allowing them to be a staple of spotting, defenses, and post-invasion aid in this time, including:

  • Protecting historic governorless communities from invasion, such as a liberation of Asia and repeated defenses and liberations of Christmas, the latter of which Ravania has been WA Delegate of twenty-four times throughout various interventions, prominently in preventing 2014’s seasonal invasion attempt,
  • Liberating Cascadia, Scotland, and Federation of Herbshire from various occupying coalitions alongside historic defender militaries such as the FRA, RIA, and Lazarus,
  • Eradicating the last multiversal stains of The Black Riders, accomplished alongside the Spiritus Defense Force,

Admiring Ravania’s role in the creation of the operations venue #jump, a precursor to Libcord. Through this platform, Ravania and other defender officers ushered in an era of widespread defender collaboration which had been made difficult by incendiary figures in the preceding years,

Appreciating the service of Ravania to the Rejected Realms Army in 2019 and 2022-present, where they have served with distinction. In addition to making unmatched use of their sleeper networks to shield scores of regions from future invasions, they served as the lead during the liberation of The Potato Union, an operation including over seventy liberators,

Cherishing Ravania’s patience and dedication to the long-term security of historic communities, such as Ireland and Christmas. In 2017, Ravania aided Drop Your Pants in refounding Ireland, forever shielding it from the risk of invasion. Later, Ravania would aid Christmas in gaining a new Governor as well,

Appreciating that Ravania’s legacy in the Belgian community came full circle in 2023, when they coordinated with Riemstagrad to oversee Belgium’s transition to gaining a Governor. This allowed the region to be safe from occupation, ending Belgium’s twenty-year era of existential resistance to invaders as a governorless community,

Surmising that while Ravania has not been history’s most exuberant defender, their legacy of endurance and loyalty has rightfully earned them recognition among the cause’s greats,

Hereby commends [nation=long]Ravania Ultra[/nation].

Spying on The North Pacific is a commendable act, it should be included in the draft. Otherwise, I support the idea of Ravania getting his flowers.

I am unsure what this clause refers to, perhaps it isn't an angle of that era that was particularly memorable to me. Could you expand a bit on this?

It's also referenced in Commend Spiritus, it refers to Ravania and the SDF removing the final TBR tags. Since TBR was mod-nuked, the push to detag the rest of their stuff was really the final thing in terms of tossing them to history's bin.

Ah, makes sense why I don't remember it then. It's just not something that would stand out as particularly meaningful to me, but I obviously have my biases :P No issue with the clause, thanks for the clarification.

Ravania taught me how to defend, so of course I support this.

edit:

"Liberation of Scotland from the short-lived but brutal invader army Sicarius, where invaders were repelled by " this sentence seems to lack an ending?

edit again:

Also, Ravania didn't just rise to a commanding rank, he was Chief of the Band after Mahaj.

Couple of points in this clause:
Lauding Ravania as a pioneer of defender tactics surrounding “sleepers”, proxy nations stationed in vulnerable regions to heighten the barriers of to regional destruction and aid in liberation efforts. Ravania in this sense was a trendsetter, their extensive sleeper influence generating millions of influence for the defender cause and inspiring others to adopt the tactic on smaller scales,

First point - I think you’re raising barriers to prevent regional destruction hence my suggested change there.

Second point - I think this might be an R2(a) violation. While influence in itself is an accepted and legal game term, generating a numerical value of it, I think, could be construed as being part of a game and so illegal.

Might want to ask for a ruling on it.

Made a handful of offsite edits to reduce repetition + re-ordered some clauses.

BBD - I implemented the wording change. I'd like to think influence even expressed as a number should be legal, but we'll see what the mods say (if they don't notice this post I'll ask in moderation closer to submission).

I got some more information that I've incorporated into the proposal. This does put me all the way at 5,363 characters, but we can work down from there.

The main things added,

1. A brief mention of Christmas as his first liberation
2. Mention of his service re: Anne Frank
3. Ireland refound and full circle mention on Christmas

Me again... here's some notes.

Rhaza wrote:Recalling that Ravania Ultra’s (Ravania) infancy was as a native of Vlaanderen, a small community of culturally similar nations that was an original founderless community, and therefore plagued with consistent vulnerability,

This reads a touch odd with the apostrophe-s being before the end of the subject. I would say after the Ravania in parentheses would be more grammatically accurate?

This could be shortened: "a small community of culturally similar nations that was an original founderless community," to "a small founderless community of culturally similar nations, plagued with constant vulnerability" I think otherwise it feels a touch repetitive.

Rhaza wrote:Admiring Ravania’s role in Vlaanderen’s long term security, taking a leading role in the region's refound under the foundership of 1302. This operation has allowed Vlaanderen to exist peacefully since, and the region has gone on to form a confederation with other historic communities of cultural similarity, Belgium and Nederland,

long term should be long-term.

refound I think would be refounding?

I think the comma after "cultural similarity" should be an emdash.

Rhaza wrote:Respecting Ravania’s long-term loyalty to Belgium’s community in their governorless era, maintaining numerous nations in the region for its security for over a decade and supporting the region’s native government militarily when not conducting defender deployments themselves,

governorless --> governor-less?

"maintaining numerous nations in the region for its security for over a decade and supporting" --> " maintaining numerous nations in the region for over a decade supplementing its security and supporting" The double "for" sounds choppy, here's one way you could fix it.

Rhaza wrote:Grateful that Ravania would go on to explore lands beyond Belgium’s borders to aid in 2011’s liberation of Christmas and join the United Defenders League (UDL) where they quickly became an officer and eventually Chief of the Band, the overall leader of the organization,

"to aid" + "to join" --> "aiding" + "joining" I think would flow better.

Maybe smth like universal instead of "overall"? Feels more grandiose :p

Rhaza wrote:Acclaiming Ravania’s contributions to the major anti-fascist liberation of Anne Frank during their time as the UDL’s leader and thankful that they have continued to aid in keeping the region alive and out of deplorable hands,

I like this one. No comments!

Rhaza wrote:Lauding Ravania as a prolific user and innovator of defender tactics surrounding “sleepers”, proxy nations stationed in vulnerable regions to heighten the barriers to regional destruction and aid in liberation efforts. Ravania in this sense was a trendsetter, their extensive sleeper influence generating millions of influence for the defender cause and inspiring others to adopt the tactic on smaller scales,

"in this sense" should start and end with a comma.

"millions of influence" feels wrong from an ooc perspective. I know it's a number in game but it would be closer to influence points. Influence itself would not be quantifiable and therefore millions would be grammatically incorrect. Something in the "lots/bucketloads/large quantities" vein would be better.

Rhaza wrote:Further lauding that without the proliferation of sleeper tactics by Ravania, defending would be immeasurably disadvantaged. Such efforts greatly increase the chances of protecting native communities, and Ravania’s diligence, patience, and longevity in this effort as well as passing it down cannot be fully done justice on paper,

Lauding twice in a row is a personal pet peeve, although my assumption is that it's here to bind the two clauses together. Still, I'd advocate for extolling or smth.

"as well as passing it down" both should be bracketed by commas and also sounds weird? I would cut either diligence or patience and do something like "diligence, longevity, and willingness to train future defenders"

is it weird to say on paper? Since... ya know... (genuine question, no need to change it if you disagree)

Rhaza wrote:Additionally lauding Ravania as a pioneer in detagging (removing invader vandalism from vulnerable regions) where they meticulously compiled vast records of regions in need of such assistance, prior to the introduction of modern resources that aid defenders in this process,

3... 3 lauding in a row? Please sir, acclaim or lionize or sing the praises of Ravania. I beg of thee.

Comma at the end of the parentheses. Also not sure you need a comma after assistance. Mm maybe. Up to you.

Rhaza wrote:Emphasizing the usefulness of Ravania’s patience and attention to detail in defender activity. Before the introduction of world-wide tracking by global census takers, noticing in-progress and completed invasions was substantially more laborious. Despite this, Ravania’s commitment allowed them to be a staple of spotting, defenses, and post-invasion aid in this time, including:

Phew. Emphasizing. I can work with that (I'm fully being an ass do ignore me).

Argh! three sentences? Anyway, I'd change "activity. Before the" to "activity, where before the" Eliminate one pause break.

I don't believe worldwide needs a dash.

census-takers does however ;)

"in this time" -- the "in" should be "at" or "during"

Rhaza wrote:

  • Eradicating the last multiversal stains of The Black Riders, accomplished alongside the Spiritus Defense Force,

Same note on governor-less.

"a liberation of Asia" --> "the liberation of Asia"

"preventing seasonal 2014" I'm assuming that's meant to be THE seasonal 2014. Otherwise that sentence don't make no sense.

Rhaza wrote:Admiring Ravania’s role in the creation of the operations venue #jump, a precursor to Libcord. Through this platform, Ravania and other defender officers ushered in an era of widespread defender collaboration which had been made difficult by incendiary figures in the preceding years,

This might be more of a judgment of old defenderdom but... was old libcord really called #jump?

Same note as earlier on combining sentences. "Libcord. Through" --> "Libcord, where, through"

comma before which.

Rhaza wrote:Appreciating the service of Ravania to the Rejected Realms Army in 2019 and 2022-present, where they have served with distinction. In addition to making continued and great use of their sleeper networks to shield scores of regions from future invasions, they served as the lead during the liberation of The Potato Union, an operation including over seventy defenders and their allies,

"distinction. In addition" --> "distinction, and in addition"?

"continued and great" feels like a weak pair of adjectives. Even something like "unbroken and exemplary" I think would be better though you could also rearrange it I'm sure.

I think similarly "over seventy defenders and their allies" kind of feels like less mind boggling than I would expect it to be and I think it's likely a syntax thing. I think the over 70 defenders should be the punch to end the clause, so maybe moving 'and their allies' somewhere else.

Rhaza wrote:Cherishing Ravania’s patience and dedication to the long-term security of historic communities, such as Ireland and Christmas. In 2017, Ravania aided Drop Your Pants in refounding Ireland, forever shielding it from the risk of invasion. Later, Ravania would aid Christmas in gaining a new Governor as well,

Didn't you already talk about Christmas earlier?

Also the second and third sentences should be combined. Maybe "from the risk of invasion, later aiding Christmas in gaining a governor as well, (similarly providing them with future security blah blah -- if you wanted.)

Rhaza wrote:Appreciating their legacy in the Belgian community came full circle in 2023, when they coordinated with Riemstagrad to oversee Belgium’s transition to gaining a Governor. This allowed the region to be safe from occupation, ending Belgium’s twenty year era of existential resistance to invaders as a governorless community,

Start of the clause is grammatically wrong. It would be "appreciating THAT" or "community AS IT came"

Gaining a governor could probably just be "governorship".

Sentence squish again. "to gaining a governor, and allowing the region safety from occupation"

Twenty-year is hyphenated.

Same comment on governor-less.

Rhaza wrote:Surmising that while Ravania has not been history’s exuberant defender, their legacy of endurance and loyalty has rightfully earned them recognition among the cause’s greats,

comma before while

"history's... most?... exuberant defender"?

There's some comments! Smaller grouping than the last one, this is a really good resolution :)

Cheers, have a great day!
