[Passed] Repeal Commend Yohannes

Postby Waterfall State » Fri Mar 08, 2024 8:14 pm

In light of recent news coming out, this proposal is needed and have decided to try to keep this as short as possible.

I have asked someone from their former region (The North Pacific) for consent to write this proposal and have recieved it.

Send your approvals here

---

The Security Council,

Stating that the nation of Yohannes has been commended by this body under SCR#149 for its diplomatic efforts promoting peace and stability throughout the world;

Surprised and disappointed upon hearing recent news that the leaders of Yohannes, through their satellite nation of Isabella van der Feltz, have committed grave offences resulting in their banishment from many regions;

Noting that the offences unearthed are both unspeakable and severe enough that they have culminated in the form of many of the diplomatic ties with other nations being severed and the privileges that they have once enjoyed being revoked;

No longer believing that Yohannes can be a positive example to the world as SCR#149 proudly proclaims;

Aware of what now must be done by this body;

Hereby Repeals SCR#149 “Commend Yohannes”.

-----

Repeal Commend Yohannes,

The Security Council,

Once remembering that the nation of Yohannes has been commended by this body under Security Council Resolution # 149 for their diplomatic efforts promoting peace and stability throughout the world.

Disappointed that recent news have come to light on March 8 that the leaders of Yohannes, through their satellite nation of Isabella van der Feltz have committed offences that have resulted in their banishment from the North Pacific.

Noting that these offences are severe enough that the details do not deserve to be elaborated further and has resulted in much of the diplomatic ties with other nations severed and the privileges that they have once enjoyed revoked.

No longer believing that Yohannes can be a positive example to the world and noting what now must be done by this body

Hereby Repeals Security Council Resolution # 149 “Commend Yohannes”

I am open for feedback on making this draft better etc

Some minor edits:

Repeal Commend Yohannes, I assume you weren't planning to add this in with the proposal, but if you were, it doesn't make sense to.

The Security Council,

Once Remembering that the nation of Yohannes has been commended by this body under Security Council Resolution # 149 for their diplomatic efforts promoting peace and stability throughout the world, //Small grammatical edit.

Surprised and disappointed that upon hearing recent news have come to light on March 8 that the leaders of Yohannes, through their satellite nation of Isabella van der Feltz, have committed grave offences that have resulted resulting in their banishment from the North Pacific, //Once again, small grammatical edits.

Noting that these offences are severe enough that the details do not deserve to be elaborated further and has resulted in that they have culminated in the form of many of the diplomatic ties with other nations severed and the privileges that they have once enjoyed revoked, //Don't really need that middle part. If you feel like you do, I suggest changing it to something more readable such as "that the international community has seen fit" or "unspeakable atrocities" instead of "severe enough offences".

No longer believing that Yohannes can be a positive example to the world as SC #149 proudly proclaims and noting what now must be done by this body, //Always good to mention the target resolution specifically. That last part doesn't make much sense on this line, so I've chosen to exclude it, but you can also add it in a separate line with a stronger verb than "noting" and it'll still make sense.

Hereby Repeals Security Council Resolution # 149 “Commend Yohannes”.

Full support regardless.

No support. I will comment no further on this matter as a player. Barack Obama, however, spoke well in his Second Inaugural Address: "No single person can train all the math or science teachers we'll need to equip our children for the future, or build all the roads and networks and research labs that will bring new jobs and businesses to our shores."

What did Yohannes do? Support if it is that bad that they were booted from TNP.

Full support for similarly sounding like my IRL name

I actually didn't know Isabella van der Feltz (Yohannes) was banished for their offenses. I'm still in full support.

I'd lose the "remembering" clause if I were you. Imagine complimenting Festavo for... whatever it is you could compliment him for.

Also, why TNP? Yohannes was banned everywhere. TNP wasn't even mentioned in the commendation.

Now that you mention it, I intend to change that line when I get the time before submission.

The reason why I mention TNP was that it is where I heard the news from initially. let me see if I can also edit this too before submission

I have split three posts from this thread that violate the One Stop Rules Shop.

Be apprised that "Accusations of misconduct that may bring real world repercussions outside of NationStates do not belong in public spaces on NationStates and will be punished as harassment.". I will grant that the parties that posted may not have been aware of this policy, but now that I've posted here and removed all doubt, there's no excuse for it happening again.

If discussions happen off-site, that's not my problem, but this is not the appropriate location to discuss accusations of this nature. While there is nothing wrong with anyone drafting a commendation repeal, this is a circumstance where I'd like everyone to be mindful about how they draft and discuss it.

There is precedent in the SC for removing C&Cs from players whose behavior has fallen below the standards the community deems acceptable.

Waterfall State wrote:I intend to submit this within 24-36 hours unless there are other serious objections

Bit rushed? Players may need a bit more time than that to understand and comment on this draft.

My only comment is that the “Stating that no words can …” sentence is autological when followed up with the precise words ordering what if fact must be done. :p

My understanding is that the nation Yohannes is or was shared by multiple players, not just the one behind Isabella van der Feltz. Eg [1]. Does the author think it's merited to repeal the implicit commendation of both players?

That would still mean that it was Yohannes, if that defense was correct and the only change in circumstance. That would merit the repeal with quite literally zero change in my thought process

Why are you in such a rush to repeal? Giving it a few days or a week won't change how we feel about the revelation, after all. If you rush it the only thing you are likely to achieve is that the repeal fails and the commendation stands, which is the worst outcome given the allegations.
Rushing this to a vote is doing a disservice to the community. I ask you to apply some restraint and show some respect.

Agreed - I've the due diligence to vote on this if it gets past the draft stage. Rushing it, at least in my perspective, gives the impression that ulterior motives are at play, regardless of the merits of the commendation repeal. Not to mention, acting impulsively tends to result to a non-proportionate response - whether too lenient or too harsh.

24-48 hours to deliberate and process the events should be enough.
