I haven't seen that post. Was it on the forums prior to the proposal being ruled legal? Because apart from the one line about the overuse of pink, I think it reads as a serious proposal. Pretty much every SC proposals pokes somebody with a sharp stick through the bars of their cage. I'm not seeing anything significantly different in "Liberate The East Pacific".

Other have called it a "joke." I've said it's somewhat of a "work of satire" designed to contrast the recent/current atmosphere by fully jumping the shark, and in reply to Ransium calling it a joke, "a shitpost half-built on circular logic [in] the middle of a bunch of other meaningless, self-important proposals, to provide a 'compare and contrast' moment, as well as to experiment a bit with less convention campaign tones for future use." That said, I've also made sure it's fully legal, asked others to check the same in the thread prior, got a thumbs up from Wrapper there, and gotten two legal marks on it in queue.

The rule against "joke proposals" itself says such proposals will always be a judgement call by moderation, which seems to have been made here. Though, mind you, following the link in the rule back to the 2009 reasoning, the reasoning seems to be "we don't want the WA to be stuck with them as legislation" (which seems to run counter to what Ransium just said about letting the voters assess quality) and "not-so-funny joke C&Cs that flame their subject when quorum is so low there's a risk of them getting to vote," which, well, flaming is it's own rule, and quroum is anything but low at the moment.

So reading between the (unnecessarily defensive) lines, it is still illegal to submit joke proposals? Not sure why answering that question was so difficult for mods.

I generally agree that voters should have enough common sense to not let jokes pass without mod interference.

Is it illegal to pursue a draft that Condemns, Commends, or Liberates a nation or region that already exists as a draft by another player?

It's not exactly the nicest thing to do, but assuming a lack of plagiarism I would be pretty sure it's legal

My question is, what do you recommend a first time coauthor to do? What sorts of general improvements can help a resolution to be better?

Not exactly. Being nasty is more likely to get you deleted than condemned. It's a fine line, and you've been on the wrong side of it more often than not.

Sorry if this sounded silly, but... are you allowed to self-commend, so long as you have really good and convincing reasons for it?

[QUESTION] Has a self-commendation ever been passed?

Postby The Order of the EZIC Salt » Tue May 15, 2018 8:31 am

Title, but I'd also like to know the same for self-condemnations and liberations. I started thinking about this and then proceeded to bring it up when a nation whom shall not be named attempted to commend themselves for vaguely stated reasons, which was then deemed illegal due to rule 3. Right forum, wrong topic. Merged with Q&A. I'll let someone with a better sense of SC history answer, but I will say, nowadays, a great many voters come out strongly against any sort of self-commendations (and self-condemnations too, I suppose).

If, by self-liberation, you mean someone liberating their own region that's under attack, there's nothing wrong with that -- many voters will only vote for a liberation if it has support of long-time residents ("natives") -- but I don't know for sure how often it happens.

From an IC perspective, how severe are condemnations for how someone's nation is behaving in terms of IC nation-based roleplay (not raiding/defending/proposal writing/issue writing, but things like in the National & International Roleplaying forum)? Would it be expected for other nations to decide to embargo, sanction, & denounce a condemned nation, or are IC condemnations for a nation's behavior pretty harmless?

Hi Shwe Tu Colony,

When Automagfreek was condemned back in 2012 (and the drafting thread was first created in this sub-forum), multiple nations declared embargo on him (and also tried to invade the region of Gholgoth) in the International Incidents sub-forum. His condemnation thread was unique also in that people (not from the traditional RP communities) who usually wouldn't bother to pretend to roleplay in this sub-forum (because this is not a roleplaying sub-forum) actually wrote RP posts here (Zemnaya Svoboda from The North Pacific was one of them, Glen-Rhodes another, Unibot, Goobergunchia the historical creator of NSWiki, etc.)

Ralkovia's condemnation (forgot what year it was) was another one that attracted the same kind of thing (though by not as much)

I am sorry if this is not the answer you're looking for (or if this is not the appropriate place for this)
