In 21st Century Peronia there are and have been cases of discrimination based on ethnic characteristics. In an effort to combat racism, the National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism (NIAD) was created by Federal Law.
Different terms and behaviors have spread to discriminate against certain portions of the population, in particular against those who are referred to as "blackheads" (blacks), a group that is not particularly well-defined in 21st Century Peronia but which is associated, although not exclusively, with people of dark skin, members of the working class or lower class (similar to the term "red neck" in the United States), the poor, and more recently with crime.

Anti-Semitism also exists in 21st Century Peronia, in a context influenced by the large population of Jewish immigrants and a relatively high level of intermarriage between these immigrants and other communities.

There is an active debate about the depth of racist conduct in 21st Century Peronia. While some groups maintain that it is only a question of inoffensive or marginal behavior that is rejected by the vast majority of the population, other groups contend that racism is a widespread phenomenon that manifests itself in many different ways.

The People´s Republic of 21st Century Peronia legislature has passed recently the Federal Law Nº 23.592 that prohibits hate speech and has established that it is illegal to make racist remarks in public:

"They will be repressed with prison from one month to three years those who participate in an organization or carry out propaganda based on ideas or theories of superiority of a race or of a group of people of a certain ethnic origin or color, whose purpose is the justification or promotion of racial discrimination in any way.

The same penalty shall be incurred by those who by any means encourage or initiate persecution or hatred against a person or groups of persons because of their race, ethnic origin or color".
Announcing approval of this policies, the President of the Republic has recalled his assumption speech when he said:

"Workers: unite; be more brothers today than ever. On the brotherhood of those who work, the unity of all Peronians must rise in this beautiful land"

Thus, in the Republic, the brotherhood of all people is constituted by their character of workers and by their belonging to the nation of Peronia, which can be given by birth or by choice, regardless of the race of whoever decides to belong to this glorious nation.

As Torculmania was first formed, discrimination based on race and gender was widespread across the country. Blacks, Latinos, Asians, etc were given lower levels of education and rights than white people. While females were not allowed to vote and was given lower wages than men.

At the 21st century however, minorities were given equal rights and women was also given the same rights as men.
Immigration would hit Torculmania hard on the 21st century, and many people of different cultures would immigrate to Torculmania.

Now, people have learned to coexist with each other but there is still some people who discriminate against other people.

Discrimination is strong against discriminators. Racism, sexism, homophobia, ableism, etc. are not tolerated. Originally, the culture of the Republic saw accommodation and assimilation as good for business. Now, it is simply seen as a virtue that as long as one assimilates into the culture, there won't be trouble. You don't want to assimilate? You don't have to live here. Tolerance ends where disruption of the Republic begins. What unites The Thalassocracy isn't a shared ethnic heritage, mother tongue, or religion. It's a common mindset, or philosophy towards life.

In the cultural sphere and, more specifically, in the television entertainment industry, the government awards prizes to television shows featuring stereotype-breaking minority roles, in an attempt to promote and support affirmative action policies, with the objective to promote societal equality through the preferential treatment of socioeconomically disadvantaged people.

Likewise, the objective of these policies is to comply with the Charter of Civil Rights approved through Resolution No. 35 of the General Assembly on February 6, 2009, which in its article 1 clause c) establishes that “All inhabitants of member states have the right not to be and indeed must not be discriminated against on grounds including sex, race, ethnicity, nationality, skin color, language, economic or cultural background, physical or mental disability or condition, religion or belief system, sexual orientation or sexual identity, or any other arbitrarily assigned and reductive categorization which may be used for the purposes of discrimination, except for compelling practical purposes, such as hiring only female staff to work with battered women who have sought refuge from their abusers”.

For its part, article 2, clause a) of the Charter of Civil Rights provides that “Unfair and unreasonable discrimination, on the grounds outlined in clause c) of article 1 of this resolution, in private employment, housing, education, employment benefits, compensations and access to services provided to the general public shall be prohibited by all member states”.

There used to be a great deal of racial, religious & sexual discrimination in Allumeer during the time before the Great Crusade. After the Demon ruling our world was cast out by the Sorcerers of Atlantis, the Reconstructionist regime was able to put an end to these petty hatreds. Today our nation is proudly diverse - in fact, our flag even symbolises the four races of our planet, Black, Brown, Yellow and Red.

There used to be a great deal of racism towards black people, although nowadays it's relatively rare, although racist chants are still heard in football (soccer) stadiums from time to time. It used to be that black humans could not legally possess weapons and were de facto banned from most good jobs and decent housing. The racist laws have been abolished, but it is taking longer for private attitudes of many people to change.
