Here is a comparison of my F-03 Leopard, Strike Fighter Concept, and Mach 3 Interceptor concept. The bad pixels are due to the re-scaling from the original drawing.
Actually this interceptor could double as a mach 3 bomber as well for our B-X program!
I also included a GE F404 engine for comparison, since the F404 powers the F-03 and possibly the strike fighter concept, and the AIM-120 and AIM-9 missiles you see are originally by Bagera3005 but I down scaled the missiles so they match the aircraft.

so my air defense currently consists of Pantsir S-1, David's Sling, and the S-500 (mostly because of its anti-aircraft capability in addition to BMD capability), but I'm wondering if I would rather use THAAD for that and supplement David's Sling with the S-400 because of it's longer range, or just develop a longer range interceptor for David's Sling. Thoughts?

It's based on it.

But the scaling is slightly different (it's roughly the size of a Hornet, which makes it a bit larger than the actual F-35) and the nose is finer.

It also has DSIs, which the actual proposal lacked.

I'm considering adding the leading edge extensions in the original NGC proposal.

I'd still be using the F-86Fs in my circa 1953 air force, but considering that some F-86Ds were actually in USAFE in the 50s, I was curious as to any potential air-to-air capability on them.

Absolutely terrible. The F-8 Crusader was originally equipped with a retractable belly tray full of the things. As far as I've been able to determine, there were only ever two successful rocket strikes using this system. Once when the pilot wasn't even aiming at the target and on one occasion the aircraft towing the target was hit. The tray was removed fairly early in the F-8's service life and all following models never had it installed. This is the only photo I've ever found of the thing:

With the F-86D an onboard computer told the pilot exactly how to steer the aircraft on an intercept course and fired the rockets automatically, which would have only have partially compensated for the fact that the FFARs wobbled like heck.

It was done by Vought themselves.

How long (months leftward) do you suppose a USAF base is equipped to keep c130s operating without resupply of spare parts?

Modern militaries have more or less adopted just in time logistics, so it's more a question of how many aircraft do you absolutely need and how many airframes are you willing to cannibalise to keep a smaller number running.

The word 'base' is kind of meaningless here, different bases probably have different supplies. Further, there's of course the issue that this would all depend on intensity of operations.

More than likely months to years before you see a serious loss in overall effectiveness of the unit.

A 'USAF Base' for C-130s is going to have necessary equipment and machining tools to either repair existing parts or possibly produce some smaller scale parts for the aircraft.

You'd more than likely take a few aircraft and have them as designated spare aircraft which you draw parts from, this may have already been done before they became without a reliable source of parts.

Combined with machine shops, producing and repair parts, along with cannibalizing existing air frames would make the C-130s last a while.
