A cheeseburger is strong and decisive by virtue of its inherent design, able to fill many roles for many people, and is rapidly adaptable to changing needs because of this decisiveness. It is the national personification of the PRC. The USA is a waffle iron because it is relatively slow to produce (whereas "a cheeseburger" is "right there", the waffle iron requires setup and preparation before it can provide product), because it constantly flips between indecisiveness, and because it is rigid and inflexible. It does not "go fast" and it cannot "go fast" because it cannot get past the fact that it can "only" make waffles. This is how waffle irons work: they make waffles, it's in the name. You cannot do anything else.

To make something else, the waffle iron must be destroyed and rebuilt into something different. The waffle iron must realize its potential, which it cannot do, because it is too myopic to see past its own limitations. It is a waffle iron, it makes waffles. End of story. Figuratively speaking, but since this is a figurative metaphor, it must become literal: People will need to be eliminated and organizations purged, thousands will starve to death without their brie and strawberry-avocado dips every waking minute while dawdling on Powerpoint flowcharts, and many university graduates will be put out of work quite deliberately to send a message to the rest of the rentier class: freeloaders will not be tolerated. You work or you die (as opposed to America's belief where you "work" until you die, with no statement on what "work" actually is of course), or in Lenin's words, "he who does not work, neither shall he eat,".

Thus a "waffle iron" only creates "waffles". If you require a "pancake", or a "meat", it is useless. Sure, it can pantomime production of different things, but at the end of the day all it can do is be inflexible. The waffle iron has waffles in the name. A "cheeseburger" is merely a single aspect of a greater and more varied pantheon of objects called the "sandwich". The last time the USA was a "sandwich", i.e. flexible and able to "go fast", was probably the 1970s. It has, in fact, "waffled" between "waffle iron" and "sandwich" for the past century, though, which reveals the true nature.

That said the PRC is probably like a "panini maker" or something, which is the superior kitchen appliance, but as I say that I still have a waffle maker somewhere in the cupboard [which is to say I wear my nationalism on my lapel]. They can be used to make the same things too but a waffle iron tends to catch grease and require a more substantial cleaning (or "purging") of collected grease pockets (or "rentiers") which reduce its efficacy. The panini maker OTOH simply self-purges grease through troughs, like a George Foreman grill, but a George Foreman grill includes a trough to collect, reuse, and recycle the grease in case it should ever become useful while keeping it away from production of nutritious food.

Thus, America is a waffle iron. The PRC is a panini maker that has seen beyond the panini and is making a mess of the counter top with grease drain. And Germany is a George Foreman grill which, as we all know, can make anything.

The anime eyes are just Theory Z management nonsense memes.

As a standalone point, infantry particle weapons are firmly in the "soft SF" part of my timeline and so I reserve the right to make them work however the hell I please.

"That's unrealistic and impractical" criticism tends to work best when aimed at technology developed before the advent of consumer faster-than-light spacecraft.

I tried filling it in with some slight gradients, is that some horrible line art sin? I don't think I've ever seen them used before

As long as its for your own use gradients are fine. They're really only an issue if you're doing stuff like SB Style which involves and encourages kit bashing as they make it really hard to modify parts.

They're not unknown. Some artist prefer to use them, some do not. Many artists are either inspired by or start out copying Shipbucket, whose style guides expressly forbid gradients. In other cases, lack of gradient use is often because getting the proper gradient type and pattern can be very difficult with simpler drawing programs like Paint, or simply because using them is a lot of work even if tools are available. I only started using them about a year ago or so, and have started using them more frequently and at least IMO, with a bit of improvement over time.

I'm actually looking to break into SB scale, or maybe FD, so I might have to call it quitski with the gradients then. Still though, good to know it's not an issue for casually tossing around vehicles with my region-mates

A noblewoman of the Sculptors (left), the first human polity to perfect hyperspatial imperialism. The Sculptors used their hyperships and legions of neuro-conditioned janissaries (right) to forge an empire stretching almost to the Aquila Rift. At the height of Sculptor power, their Tribute Fleet is said to have brought hundreds of thousands of sacrificial victims to the great temple-habitats orbiting Theta Sculptoris every year.
