While I like your factbooks as well (especially the header), the comment was actually directed at the linked GTA website. Sorry for the confusion.

Hey, am I doing something grossly wrong, or is there a glitch in the programme, or is this just par for the course?
Been on board only a month, generally just enjoying seeing how the game engine reacts to my decisions on issues, &c',
as my two very different nations begin to develop.
But it seems about half the issues arising for nation A involve choices that directly affect its powerhouse economy,
while nation B almost never gets an issue in which a decision could help its fragile/struggling economy.

I'm also assuming -- please correct me if I'm wrong -- that which banners are toggled on or off affects a nation's
economy / civil rights / political freedoms. Nation B, however, has had only a fraction of the economy-relevant
banners that nation A has been allowed, nation B hasn't had any new banner option in days, and despite having gone
well above 100 million citizens, banners indicating "combine 100 million citizens with [whatever]" remain locked.

Just wondering...

I want to see if I'm getting my math right. My nation has a population density of 1,235 per square kilometer. My total population is over 450 million people on an island about the size of Japan, but that just can't be right.

Wrong forum for this, but to answer your questions - issues are random, or require certain preconditions to be met. It's likely just coincidence/bad luck that B's not getting anything useful.

As for question #2: to put it simply, you're wrong. Banners are purely cosmetic. Since B has an awful economy, you're not likely to get banners saying "100 million + a strong economy", and banners with similarly-worded conditions rely on you fulfilling those conditions for anything to come of it.

That's about as close to right as you'll get. Japan has c. 125 million in c. 400,000 sq. km, and its population density is c. 340/sq. km. Your population is nearly four times that, so if your land mass is nearly the same then your density'll be nearly four times as high.

OK, but perhaps I need to aim for a more modest population. This data is only a draft.

That would probably be a good call. Depends what you want. You'll find many people RPing with billions upon billions; if you prefer a degree of sanity, I'd probably tone down even your 450m.

I'm looking to write to military section of my factbook, but I know nothing about the subject. How would I go about writing that section first of all, are there any good guides or examples. Also can any link me to or give me information on building an army for my factbook.

When writing factbooks, especially military factbooks there are nearly limitless examples of them already out there. Below, I have attached two different styles of factbooks, one is simple and text based, and the other is a very complicated style. Both of these serve their purpose, it's just how they do it that differs.

No, This thread is where you would post a national factbook. :)

or click here viewtopic.php?f=23&t=272943 ps I'm open to any Factbook advice not just for my military but overall like displaying major cities environments, history and such.

Ps what would you rate my Factbook as is right now?

I really don't know which questions to ask, but I think that I may have come to the right place. I started my factbook homepage (which is available here http://www.nationstates.net/nation=port_island/detail=factbook/id=main). I'm rather proud of it as a first try and would really appreciate your comments and criticisms. Thanks xoxo

I may not be an expert but I think it's a little weird. I mean to say it is difficult to read. It looks like a blog with no structure or direction. There's a lot of one liners that don't adequately explain what's going on. So on a sincerely inoffensive tone below average.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but when it comes to geography, where do you usually place your country? On Earth just squeezing it in between existing ones? On a "second earth" that can have whatever landmass?

Especially interested because of neighbouring nations - do you usually use other NS states, make something up, choose real world countries,...?

My nation should be located in an environment similar to southern-mid Scandinavia (think southwest Norway or the Stockholm area, maybe a mix both) and a few islands off the coast. Should I grab a map of Scandinavia and squeeze it somewhere between Norway and Sweden or would it be advised to build my own map and just design the nature accordingly?

Sorry if my questions are stupid and/or answered before, but I am new to the game and a quick look couldn't really give me an answer yet, but maybe I looked in the wrong places.

It is honestly entirely up to you, but most people to tend to ignore following actual history/geography and make the world around their nation. Even on realistic earth based nations you can decide to change some event in the world to make your nation a reality or just make up the entire history from the ground up.

Thank you for that reply, that was helpful :) I will set my nation on a parallel world working the same way as Earth (but having different continent forms) then. But what I still wonder is what you would do about your neighbor nations if you want to include those (I do). Just making up random nations doesn't really make sense to me inside the game, but I can't really just claim to border (ingame existing) nation X, can I?

This is part of why people join regions. Many roleplay regions have their own maps, and some claim to be their own planets. Look at regions like Borealias, Astyria, Greater Dienstad, Gholgoth and Esquarium to get an idea of what I mean. There are many, many others around.

I believe putting the dispatch under Account >> Culture should work if you craft it in a narrative like fashion. If it is a more generic "A foreigner's guide to Nioya" sort of thing then do it under Factbooks >> Culture.

Can I simply freeze my population at the 89 million of the day when I wrote it into my factbook (a very convenient size as it is roughly around Germany's, giving me a good "example country" in some things) or would that be frowned upon a little? I am a bit annoyed by the fact my overview shows another population number than my factbooks, but I don't want to become a huge 500-million-country (and it wouldn't make sense with the way my state is organized. Not even if you look at the game only and ignore my self-written stuff.)
